Operation could not be completed using the Add Printer.. NOT the spooler

Q: Operation could not be completed using the Add Printer.. NOT the spooler

An old GF called me with a *lovely* problem..

She was cleaning up old files on her machine.. And seems to have cleaned way too much.

Now, when she tries to use the add printer wizard, she gets 'Operation Could Not be completed'. I checked Microsoft, and got info on the spooler not running. Trying to start the spooler (which DOES show stopped) get's a 1068 error.

I'm NOT an XP person (She's got XP Home).. and she's in another state, so I'm helping via the phone... We've been trying to use the Restore, but it keeps failing, and suggesting we try a different restore date/time.

On older systems, I'd know what to do, but under XP, I have no clue.. Any ideas? Or even ideas where to start?

Thanks!
-
*edit*
Oh! It's a cannon printer (not that she's getting far enough for it to be relevant), and she's tried using the install CD that came with the printer, only to have it tell her that installation has failed.

-Thanks!

============================

Yeah! It's resolved... But, for posterity, I figured I should say how...

When she was deleting the programs, there were a few things that she though were old, but she couldn't get rid of for some reason. So she changed (don't shudder) them from .exe files to .old files.

When looking at the Spooler, and the dependancies and such, she noticed one file name that she remembered doing that to... She undid it (by hand),.... and Ta da! All fixed!

Thanks to all of you who read this one for your time. =)

-happy happy joy joy!

I used to have two desktops A & B, they have internet sharing and printer sharing , they were working fine.

Desktop A XP Professional SP2 PC has got two printers (HP and Samsung) connected directly (USB cable), and Printer sharing is turned on .

I bought another Desktop to replace B, because B is an old PC.

From the Desktop B (XP Professional SP2), when attempting to chose the option :
A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer Click to expand...

, to add a shared printer , I can browse and see the printers name (hp and Samsung), however, when I attempt to
connect both of them, I get the following error:
cannot connect to the printer operation could not be completed errorClick to expand...

Do I need to have admin account with their passwords on both Desktop to be able to share the printers ?

I have seen this, but I could not find as solution to my case.

I am trying to install a canon IP3000 printer on a computer it has previously been installed on. Print head died and we have replaced it, in the meantime we bought a canon MP280 and installed that. When I uninstalled the MP280 after getting the new print head, and tried to reinstall the IP3000 from the disk, the installer gets to 60% and says it is creating folders, then the error system cannot find specified files comes up. I get the above message if i try to use Add printer in XP. All old drivers have been removed and i have tried renaming c:windows\system32\spool\driver\w32x86. I am at a dead end for things to try, can anyone help please.

I'am trying to install a printer on my friend's machine, but I still have getting message: Printer Driver Was Not Installed. Operation Could Not Be Completed". No matter which model, just general for all printers. Most funny is that computer recognize the printer, but won't install drivers.
I found similar problem in other forum, but no answer.

Hello,
I'm not able to add a printer driver using the standard printer wizard or otherwise. I get the generic message, "Printer driver was not installed. Operation could not be completed." I'm logged on as administrator, the spooler is running, I've installed SP2, and this problem exists for all the printers I have tried.
It doesn't seem to matter which model I try to install. One is an HP 4500DN, another is an HP 5si. I have the latest drivers and have tried downloading the latest drivers, but I still get the message.
Dave

Any idea what's wrong? I have some experience, but I'v never seen this kind of problem before.

As I know computer was cleaned from viruses. I guess some trojans made a huge disorder in this system.

When I scanned a disc with "chkdsk /r" command I recognized two partitions (systems?), I mean C:\Windows, and D:\MiniNT.

What is MiniNT? I read this problem can occur also if there is two systems on the disc.

I have no more ideas, maybe somebody has more xperience in this area?

I will appreciate for any help.

Matt

Can someone please help me with the followiing error?

Windows can't open Add a Printer Operation could not be completed (error 0x000006b5)

I am able to run Add a printer using the command prompt rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /il"

When the Add a printer window opens I get as far as selecting the port and there are no ports listed not even in the drop down. It worked fine yesterday and nothing new has been installed or uninstalled. I have tried disconnecting my printer from the desktop and rebooting without the printer and then reconnecting the printer and rebooting, Nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium x64.

I admit I even tried to add the printer on my Vista Laptop, Windows 7 laptop and the printer seems to be crapping out on each one. I am thinking it is possible my printer is dead but can someone confimr that?

We are migrating from XP to Windows 7 and using USMT offline to migrate user settings etc.
Network printers are migrated but on the users first login if the user tries to set their default printer they receive the following error message:-

"Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709) Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network."

The printer is in fact installed and it is possible to print a test print, just not set the default printer.

The issue is resolved by restarting the print spooler (or logging out and back in or rebooting or re-installing the printer) so is only
an issue during the users first login.                                                                                                                             ... Read more

Hi,
According to the error message, I assume that the spooler service cannot find out the printer on the network.

You may set the startup type of Printer Spooler service to Manual or Delayed Start for a test.Juke Chou

Hello,

I'm setting up printer sharing on an XP system. I ran the wizard and gave it the okay to share printers.
When I go to my printer options 'Share' tab, select 'Share this printer' and click 'Apply' I get:

"Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed."

What would cause this?

Thank you.

A:Solved: "Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed."

Nevermind. 'Server' service was disabled. Enabling this service fixed the issue. Hey, I'm getting good at this.

Printers that were installed prior to the SP3 update function properly. But when trying to install a new printer by either using a printer manufacturer's installation disk, or by simply using Windows 'add a printer' wizard, the error message "Printer driver was not installed. Operation could not be completed." appears. This occurs when I attempt to install any printer from the list of printers shown in the wizard.

One other point to note is that when using the add a printer wizard, no printers are shown in the window that asks me to choose a printer from the list. Based on other XP/Vista machines, there should be a list of printers shown. When I choose "Windows Update", a list of printers eventually populates, but when I attempt to install any of these printers, I get the same error message after the driver files seem to copy to my PC (after pressing the 'Finish' button)

When I attempt install a random printer, the drivers do in fact successfully copy to the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\W32X86 prior to getting the error message. However, the printer does not show up in the list of printers available in the "Printers and Faxes" window.

I also removed the W32X86 folder from the drivers folder, and the new W32X86 that was subsequently re-created upon restarting the computer was also able to accept new printer drivers, BUT when attempting to install a printer using the wizard, after the files were successfully ... Read more

I try to change the priority of warcraft 3 but it tells me "the operation could not be completed access is denied". Yes I am the only user and administator on the pc so how can I make the warcraft 3 priority higher? I play the game sometimes and when I do I lag in this game called green td because of to many monsters or something. I know its not my pc because I can play GTA IV on high/highest on all settings at 1920x1080 resolution with a solid 25 fps with normal priority. Anyways here my specs:

AMD Phenom II X2 511 3.4Ghz
5gigs of ddr3 ram
Nvidia Geforce 9600 GSO verto 768MB GDDR3
750GB HD with 435GB free

Green td is the only game I lag at so I wanna try changing the priority but I can't so any help would be great.

I also have a good internet plan so I am not sure why I lag. I have a 25/25 Mbps plan from verizon fios.

Why do you want to change the priority of Warcraft (I am assuming the process)?

Also, I am not familiar with Green TD... I don't know if changing the priority of the process will help your lag at all.

I use Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. My problem is: Whenever I try to print something (word, pdf, or any other file); printer spooler stops working and when I check the “Devices and Printers” all the printer drivers seem to be disappeared.

I checked the “Print Spooler” in the “Services” tool; and set the "Recovery after subsequent failures" option to “Restart the Service”. Therefore all the printer drives coma back after 1 minute. However the spooler stops immediately again when the uncompleted printing job starts; hence I can not print anything more than a page.

Earlier in this forum, someone posted that Microsoft issued a hotfix for this problem ( hotfix 2388142) which can be downloaded from article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2388142.

I downloaded this hotfix and tried to install, however it gives an error message of: “The update is not applicable to your computer” and quits installation.

I did uninstall and reinstall all the printer drives, but this did not help either.
Any suggestion?
Thanks,

Yeah, I had the same issue. Even when I went into services and restarted it, it would shut back down and the printers would disappear. I tried working with the registry like a few suggested, but didn't help. The only fix that worked for me was to go back about a week on the restore point, and then all the printers reappeared and worked...

Thankyou! Thankyou! Perrylea

If you are reading this, your solution helped me reinstall my printer. I was getting the print spooler app error message in Vista, as you were, and this is what I did upon following the advice in your blog. You definately helped me with a frustrating problem, and now I would like to help others with the same problem.

1. I went to Device Manager and clicked on View -> Show Hidden
Devices. Selected System Devices. And Uninstalled both the UMBus
Enumerator as well as the UMBus Root Bus Enumerator.

2. Rebooted.

3. Downloaded the drivers for my printer (Dell A960)

4. Installed the drivers for my printer from the download.

5. Printer worked.

This is this readers digest condensed version of Perrylea's solution.

Hello,
I have a Brother 450 CW printer that is offline and when I try to print, it also says,"printing spooling." I was able to print on this print a week ago. Wondering how to fix it? We have a wireless connection. It shows 5 bars for the wireless connection on the printer. I have test printed on the printer to see if it works, it does work. I changed the print cartridges. I have went to the control panel and it shows that the printer is ready. So, what is the problem? I have went to services.msc, and restarted the print spooling. Still nothing. I have disconnected the printer several times. Still nothing. I am getting very frustrated! I am also running out of options. I did a system restore, thinking that would work. Nope. My wife installed the printer onto her computer and has the same problems. I did a Microsoft scan, and it came up that I had a trojan horse, but it was removed. Still have the problems. A:Printer Spooler Stops During New Printer Set Up

Welcome frustrated.
Assuming that you have installed the software before you plugged in the printer?

I have one real important questions. when you say you have cleaned up the registry, what did you use?

Also, what other programs are running when you tried to install the printer?
you said that you set the printer up to be wireless, how are you selecting it in the install printer option?

I rfecommend installing the printer via the usb cable first and then converting it to wireless connection.

you might try that before you get too frustrated..

I am trying to re-install my printer (lexmark x2500) but I am having problems. When I go to Printers and Faxes and click on "Add Printer" I get the message "Operation could not be completed. The Printer Spooler Service is not running". I have already went into the Services and made sure that it was turned on Automatic and started it. But yet it still isn't working. Also when I plug in the USB cord for the printer into my laptop, it says down at the bottom of the screen, "Found New Hardware" but when I click on it to begin the installation, at the end it tells me "There was a problem installing this hardware. The RPC server is unavailable." I have also went into Services and made sure that the RPC was automatic and started. Still nothing. I don't understand why this is happening because in January I was able to install the printer just fine but the only mistake I made was I clicked a button that made the printer only show up as a Scanner. I have tried uninstalling the Scanner but it always shows back up once I have deleted it. Please someone help me.

I tried reinstalling it but every time i do i get a message " The print spooler service has been stopped". Even by rebooting it won`t start.
Any ideas on how to fix this anyone and why it actually happened in the first place?

Long story short, I have a printer and print to IP. I need the option under the advanced printer settings for "spool directly to printer" to stay selected. Every time I log off and back on the printer goes back to spooling. I've tried disabling
the print spooler in Services altogether, however when I do that Devices and Printer show no printer at all.

Hi,

I am a IT manager here, today my co-worker's computer got window error said "Spooler SubSystem App has encountered a problem ...".
so he cannot print,I keep trying to restart the Printer Spooler service, but keep getting stop, why? How can i fix it?

I worried that he got infected, since few days ago, my another co-worker also got the same printer spooler error, then after that, it has "search redirect and blocking malware removal software problem".
So I run malwrebytes, found some objects, and i removed them.
And I use tddskiller, cannot find anythng.
So far he didn't have "search redirect and blocking malware removal software problem", only the spooler printer issue, please tell me how i can fix it!

Tommy

A:Printer spooler service cannot run

I solved the problem, it seems like old drivers conflict. I follow the easy step in here (just simply remove all printer driver in control panel): http://www.members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htmI almost want to use the microsoft solution which will need some work on registry. But fortunately, it works by simply remove all printer driver. Tommy

Hi...Yesterday, one of the computers on the network at work stopped printing after clicking a "malware" popup. I checked the printers and they have all disappeared. I tried to add just one and the computer says that the spooler has stopped working. I checked the spooler service and it was indeed off. I started it and checked the printer section. Blank still and just as I tried to "add printer" the spooler stopped again. I've run Norton's, MalwareBytes and found nothing. Oh...btw, when I first came over to the computer, a malware program was running (Malware defender) and telling me that nothing could be run because they were infected with the blaster worm 32. Found the culprit in the startup on a safemode boot, disabled it and deleted the defender file. Thought that would take care of it, but it didn't.

Thanks in advance
Chris

Ok I have a desktop computer that is hooked up to an hp printer. I want to be able to use the printer through my wireless network on my laptop which has Vista Home Premium 32bit. I have researched the problem on the internet and have done a bunch of things that people in other forums have suggested. I have uninstalled adobe acrobat, I have have checked the dependencies and the spooler depends on the LexBce Server. I have the spooler set to automatic, I have all the failure taps set to the "Restart the Service" selection and the next two spaces set to 1. If I try to start the spooler I get error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start. Since the LexBce Server is not running, when I try to start it, I get Error 2: The System cannot find the file specified. I think it can't find it because I think I did something in Command Prompt that somebody suggested. I think I deleted it or something. Is there ANY way I can completely wipe out the LexBce server and take it off the Spooler's dependencies list? Any other suggestions? Thanks a lot.

Hi,

After setting up a second printer (HP Deskjet842c) via plug and play for my laptop (with XP) I have been receiving messages stating there is a spooler problem. Immediately after seeing this I went into the Printers box and found that neither my regular printer (Canon i560) or the second printer was listed any more. I couldn't find any printers listed in Device manager either. I could no longer print anything and the I couldn't install a printer because of the spooler problems. I used a reset point in XP but while my first printer showed up it wouldn't work. I deleted it and tried to install it again but the same spooler problem occured.
I've had suggestions to delete both printers but I can't find them anywhere to delete them. I've tried to download printer drivers from Canon but that hasn't worked either. Something always crashes the system before the download is complete. I'm not sure it would have resolved the problem anyway.
And so I just keep being told "Spooler sub system app has encountered a problem and needs to close" or "Operation could not be completed. The printer spool service is not running."

Any help would be most appreciated.

What operating systems are working with the printer and which one is not?
Is the printer password protected at all?
Do you have a firewall installed on the one computer?

This kind of error usually means that the computer that is not printing cannot detect the print spooler of the computer where the printer is attached.

After several different visits by phone with the Lexus techs, they came to the conclusion that the problem is not with the printer, but with the PRINT SPOOLER!

I can print the first page of matter on the screen and after that the printer wont print.

My operating system is XP.

A:Printer Spooler problem

Sounds like you're getting fobbed of. The printer spooler is the little app that comes up in the system tray when you send a print job to the printer. All it does is accept the whole job from the application that wants to just send the information and get on with whatever it's doing, and then send it to the printer as fast as it can handle it. A lot of home printers don't have that much memory in them, so they just print a bit at a time, and once they've done that bit, the spooler is supposed to send the next.

Most Lexmark printers (i.e. home inkjets, rather than the bigger business network ones) come with their own control software that includes it's own spooler function.

What printer do you have?

Rich.

This is a 3 year old "e machine" running windows XP home edition. Was running OK, little slow but OK, the kids have a bad habit of downloading stuff

Yesterday went to print, the printer that had been installed was gone from the prnter page, simply gone, no icon, nothing, system says that a printer must be installed. This is an HP printer like about a 952 or so. I have disk.

Got the printer disk to do a reinstall, got a system message "can not instal printer, print spooler system not running"?

Does not the spooler service boot with the system?? How could it get turned off and more important how do I turn it back on

Make sure it is set to Automatic.

My printer, the Epson Stylus Color 800, has been working fine for years. Recently, when trying to print, I get the following message:

I tried deleting the printer and reinstalling, no help. Everything checks out OK. I am certain this is NOT a hardware problem (cable, port, and printer are OK). What else can I try, short of wiping out Win 98 and reinstalling everything?

Hello:

I am having an issue with the printer spooler, specifically I can't print anything from my machine. After spending time on the phone with HP support, we were able to find a temporary workaround with printing directly to the printer. However, some functionality is lost (i.e. double sided printing) and it's not a long term solution.

Here are the details:

Computer is a Dell Vostro 220

Operating system is Windows Vista Business 32 bit

Printer is a HP Photosmart C309a

The printer is connected via USB

When trying to print from Word, Excel, Outlook even Notepad the printer loads up the doc and says it is printing. It just seems to freeze and the machine starts running very slow. The task manager shows CPU usage near 100% sometimes when I only have 1-2 programs open. Sometimes the machine crashes all together and restarts. A restart is the only way to clear the printer.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software multiple times. HP support walked me through starting and stopping the printer spooler but that did not work either. HP seemed to think the spooler issue is related to vista. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Last year my laptop computer suffered from a virus, Windows Security 2012 and I had to operate in safe mode to get rid of it. I also needed to go into msconfig and delete the service that the virus ran. When I did that, I chose Selective Start up and disabled some of the Microsoft services.

Recently I tried to add an HP printer to the laptop. After installing the printer, it was able to print well but after restarting the computer I did not see the icon. The printers and faxes folder was also empty and I received a message "printer spooler service is not running."

I went back into msconfig and found printer spooler unchecked and a "Stopped" message. I clicked the enable all button to enable all microsoft services, but when I checked again it is still not running.

What can I do to make the spooler service work?

Try and install a printer and see if this fixes your issue. I don't think having a printer installed should have an impact on the spoiler service but then again this is an odd problem too. Also look in your event logs, there may be a clue in there too.

Dell Vostro 1400 with XP. HP Laserjet 1020.

Printer stopped working, showing printer spooler error. After calling both Dell and HP, to no avail, managed to find a "quick fix" from ezinearticles.com. Followed it, restarted and voila! Everything worked.

That was then, this is now. Back to having printer spooler messages and no ability to print. Can you help? Please?

Print spool service terminated unexpectanly.

I've cleaned the system of spyware.
Nortons says there are no virus.
I've removed all unnecessary programs from the system as well as startup

I tried to run cleanspl.exe but got this error
Unable to create registy key

I went into the windows\system32\printer folder and removed everything except folders named 2 and 3.

Any ideas?

A:Printer Spooler issue

I found some xerox software. uninstall couldn't find a file so i went into safe mode and removed the xerox folder.

also found a couple of processes lexpps.exe and lex??? don't recall....
when i do a search for them, windows didn't find them.
They also don't show in the start section of the registry.

I deleted the lex*.* files I found and those lex files don't show up in task manger any more.

Hi I'm a tech at a college and am working on this computer that the printer spooler service won't stay started.

You start up the machine and go to printers and faxes. There are none listed (of course cause the spooler isn't running) You click on add printer and it tells you that the service isn't running. So you go to run services.msc, printer spooler says it's stopped so you start it. It will then run until you try to print something or go to printers and faxes in the control panel. Basically as soon as you open the window the printer spooler service stops.

Does anyone know a fix for this. Last time it happened one of my co-workers found a tool to fix it but we haven't been able to find it since and all the researching I have done leads me nowhere.

Thanks for the help, oh and OS is XP

I'm trying to install a printer via WIFI, but every time I click 'add printer', I get a message stating 'Windows can't open Add Printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine.'

I've restarted the spooler and my PC, I even looked up instructions on how to do so, nothing is working.

I would greatly appreciate and information to resolve this matter.

Greetings,
Wife said, "The printer's not printing...", so I went to the control panel to look at the printer under "printing/faxing". The following error message shows up when I try to add a printer: "Operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running".

Here's what I've done so far:
1.) Ran Malwarebytes; CCleaner. Found one item, but apparently getting rid of it didn't fix the problem.
2.) Went to Computer Management/Services and Applications, checked the spooler, turned it on. It won't stay on. It hasn't turned on automatically in numerous restarts.
3.) I uninstalled everything pertaining to my printer (HP), and reinstalled it according to its instructions. That did not fix the problem.

I'm eager to find any other ideas. If anyone knows of any, please advise. Greatly appreciate your time.

Well after spending about 20 hours of my life on researching this problem online and trying all kinds of "fixes" I am turing to this board for help.

I have a Gateway FX 6802 - 64 bit computer running Windows 7. Brand new - purchased 2 months ago. I also have an Epson 1280 printer which I have had for years. When I initially set the computer up, I just plugged in the printer via USB and it found the drivers and worked. No issues. Epson doesn't have drivers for the 1280 for Windows 7 anyway...but I had 2 months of no issues.

A few days ago, I noticed when I went to print something from my Microsoft Home and Student Word 2007 program, it wouldn't print. It said my print spooler was not on. I researched and went through the steps to get it back on, and to clear out ther files in my system32/spool/printer folder and then turned it back on via services.msc. Here is the strange part.

I can print any Word docs that I created previosuly within the past 2 months, or docs I created prior to getthing this computer. No problem. I can print photos. I can print PDF files. The only time I run into an issue is when I go into Word 2007 to create a new doc. It won't print. It shuts the spooler off. I'll have the print spooler window open and I will watch it - once I hit the print button in a NEW document - it changes status from started to stopped. Then, I have to clear out the printers folder in the system32/spool/printers which will contain 2 files usually named something such as... Read more

Printer Spooler keeps stopping. I've got a laptop (Vista 32) that was connected to a network and could print through an XP machine.

Then the printer spooler stopped, and it refused to start again. I've scoured the internet trying to find a way to fix it, but i have failed. I can't even try to "add a printer."

I"m afraid it doesn't take much for something to get out of my depth on the computer. But after a few hours a day, I really need your help .

Hello everyone,

I am new here and I have tried everywhere and no one seems to have an answer.

The other day all my printers disappeared. I received an error saying I was having an issue to my print spooler.

I tried some online fixes and the error is gone but I cannot add printers.

I have tried resetting services to automatic and tried manually starting print spooler.

I also have tried running sfc/scannow and it stops at 40% and says..

"Windows Resource Protection can not complete the requested task"

Tried also in safe mode.

Another issue that started about the same time is my pointer randomly clicks. I have tried the tools/folder option and setting it double click and nothing.

Also, i have gone on site that specialize in malware issues and they say my logs are clean.

Any help would be wonderful. This is a new comp and this is really affecting my business.

Also, I stupidly did not set up any restore points.

Original problem: Printer not printing in one application, then quit printing all together. Attempted to re-install printer, rec'd message INF file had been damaged or removed. Downloaded new Drivers from Mftr, seemed to work fine. Now all files to be printed are going to the "spooler/print que" and not being sent to the printer. What do I need to make these communicate again? If file, and you have it please send website info or file to download. Thanks!

I am having trouble with my printer and trying to get it to work. I am at work right now and i was printing some letters and all of a sudden my printer failed to work. A message popped up saying Spooler Subsystem App having problem (or something along those lines) and when i tried to click print it would say printer spooler not running. operation could not be complete I tried using Microsoft helped and it worked to an extent. I followed to the steps to get to the SERVICES page and it had me start the printer spooler, i did that, then i could get to the printer page, however i would click print and it would say printer error. I don't know what to do or how to fix this...someone please help! and it's an office computer and we need it fixed fast!

thanks in advance!!!!

ps i called microsoft too, but yeah they defintily didn't answer

A:Printer Spooler problem

Maybe you can work around spooler subsystem by selecting "Print directly to printer" in printer properties. If you do this, it's recommended to wait for the printer to finish one task, before starting another.

As for the problem itself.
Basically, restarting the whole computer often helps. You know, this is Windows.
Other ideas:
Start task manager. Check if spoolsv.exe is listed among the running processes.
If not, then click Start -> Run, type in services.msc.
Among the services there is one called Print Spooler. Try to start it.
If it fails, check if the service called Remote Procedure Call is running. If not, start it, Then try starting Print Spooler again.

Start/Run...type services.msc...scroll down to Print Spooler.

Should be automatic startup...status should be started. If not change those two items, click OK, etc.

It helps if you post the exact error message you receive, rather than force us to guess at what might be wrong.

My PC is running Windows XP SP 2. This week, I noticed that I cannot print
to any of my network printers. (I do not have any local printers.)
When I print to any printer, an error says the Print Spooler is not running.

I ran services.msc and stopped/started the Print Spooler.
I have tried re-booting the PC.
Each of our networked printers have an IP Address
assigned to them. I am able to ping each printer and can browse to them through
Internet Explorer. No other users are having problems printing to the printers.
The problem is not with the printers, the network or the print server on the network.
The problem is narrowed down to my PC.

I have run a scan with Symantec Anti-Virus and with spyware removers like
Ad-Adware and Windows Defender. All come up clean.
My network connect is good. I am able to surf the web and download updates.

I verified that WIndows Firewall is off. I do not have Zone Alarm running.

Any ideas?

Does your print spooler stop running when you try to print, either way the first thing i would do is remove the printers and reinstall them.
also see if you can ping the print servers Continuously (ping printserverip -t)

Printer quit. I have an HP Photosmart 2710 all-in-one and Vista 32. I downloaded and installed the latest software and drivers from HP. When I try to 'add a printer' it says my print spooler is stopped. One blog told me to r click on Computer, Manage, Service and Applications, Services, print spooler, restart services. It appeared to work and the status changed from 'stopped' to 'started'. When I tried again to add a printer I got the same message as before and the print spooler status had changed back to 'stopped'. Somewhere in my efforts I got the error message 'error 1067'. Help! If I Cancel that and go and try and print an email from Microsoft Office Outlook, I get the message

I ran a System Restore hoping to get back to where I was but it said nothing had changed.

I got this below from

A:Solved: Printer Spooler not running

No replies but I will tell you what happened anyway.

The problem was that I deleted Lexmark printers from the Control Panel. This left a Lexmark file marked as a "dependency", which wasn't there.

Microsoft do have several pages about it and a download fix, although it did take me a bit of searching for it.

I have the printer up and running now, just a RUNDLL error window flashing up on start up. I will deal with that later.

Colin.

Hi, I've tried to install a new printer on my computer today and I received a message that says "processing cannot be continued because the Print Spooler service has been stopped. Restart the computer to start the Print Spooler service and then try again". I'm not sure if this matters but I first did an install on my laptop which worked fine and then I tried doing another installation on my desktop which did not work.

I've also been looking for solutions online and have tried the following but failed :
Click Start, Run and type the following:

CMD /K SC CONFIG SPOOLER DEPEND= RPCSS
Alternately, to accomplish this using Registry Editor:

Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe

Navigate to the following branch

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ Spooler

In the right-pane, double-click the DependOnService value

Delete the existing data, and then type RPCSS

Close Regedit.exe

I'm also running on Vista Home Premium 32 bit

I have Windows XP and a Cannon S330 Printer. Everytime I try to Print a document or test page I get an error message saying
"Front cover was opened afer last printing job and one of the cartridges may have been replaced."

Then it asks me if I know if I replaced a cartridge click YES or if not sure or no click NO, now before I can click anything the window freezes and says Not Responding so I have to End Task to ge it away.

It also says that it can't show me any properties because the Print Spooler service is not running. When I got to Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services. I see that the Spool service is turned off so I turn it back on

Then everytime I try to reprint and get the same message as before I got back to Services and check the Spooler Service it is turned off again.

ANY HELP IS APPRIECIATED.

A:Printer Trouble--Print Spooler, etc.....

From the printers window, delete all the printers installed on your machine (even ones other than the Canon). Delete the contents of the c:\winnt\system32\spool folder. Unplug your printer, reboot. After having booted into windows once with no printer, shut off the machine, plug in the printer. Contact the manufacturer and ask them how to reset the factory default settings on the printer (Most printers have this "reset" feature, done with some buttons pushes on the printer itself). Boot up the machine, and see if it detects your printer. If not, go onto the manufacturers website, download the latest drivers and install manually.

Hope this helps...
