BSOD errors, xp wont start, reformatted, xp wont install.

Q: BSOD errors, xp wont start, reformatted, xp wont install.

I got a new p4 3 gig with hyperthreading pc. For a while it was working like a charm, on overdrive. But only after a week of use, I started to have problems. While playing very visually demanding games (Battlefield 1942, Medal Of Honor) I would keep gettin those dreaded blue screen of death thingies. I would get one of 3 errors. One said, "IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_TO_OR_LESS_THAN" another said, "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" although im not quite sure about the NONPAGED part, i know it said non something. And the other one I think I only got once and cant remember exactly what it was, it had something to do with IRQ.

Now on all of them it said it was shutting down my pc to avoid hardware damage. Which it did, I had about 3 seconds to read the screen before my pc shut down. After a while, It got so bad that I would get an error while just browsing the internet with explorer. I tried taking out my vid card and using the on-board video, didnt work. I dont remember if xp stopped starting or not, but I decided I should format my hd to fix the problem. I only have the xp upgrade cd so I had to install win98 first. Win 98 installed fine, except that on the first startup after installation my pc resarted itself and I got the "failed startup, choose an option" thing, I chose normal start up and it worked fine. So then I tried to install xp again. I got to the part where it restarts to install xp from the files copied from cd. During that installtion phase, It said a bunch of files didnt copy right, So I had to choose to skip them. The installation failed, xp will never start. I know my xp cd is good cuz I installed xp on my old system, which I am using right now.

Now throughout all this, I had all the updated drivers and all that crap. I even tried to update bios. One weird thing I noticed while doing that,.. In my motherboard manual, it says it uses "2M" bios. On the site for the bios update, it has a version for 2M and 3M updates, 2M files are 256k, 3M are 384k. So i try to update with the 2M file using qflash. But it says wrong file size, it wants 384k. So i go ahead and use the 3M update instead, and it installs. But XP still wont, only difference is, rather than saying it cant copy files, the installation is inturrupted by a DOS screen saying there is an "Internal Stack Error" or something of the sort.

I am so frustrated at this point, I dont care about being able to play my games. I just want to get xp reinstalled. Is it possible my motherboard or memory is damaged?(yea i tried unplugging the memory and everything and putting back too) The people I bought it from wont replace it until I ask for help, reformat a million times, get professional help, call 911, call a doctor, call a psychic, and use witchcraft to fix it myself. Supposedly this is an isolated case, but I have feeling that even if the make good on their replacement guarantee, I will run into the same problems. Can anyone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me?

Guess I should give more hardware info:

Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-8IG1000MK (supports HT)
Memory: 256 DDR400 on a single stick.
Processor: Pentium 4 3.0 gigahertz with HT technology
Hard Drive: Western Digital 160 gigabytes 8MB cache 7200 RPM
Sound and Video are on the motherboard.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled (admin) the latest driver several times. I dont have any USB 3 devices yet and have nothing plugged into a USB 3. I am starting to think my last option is to disable all USB 3 on my computer but when I get a USB 3 I will be screwed. Any Thoughts?

A:BSOD from USB 3- Driver wont install correctly/device cannot start

You have only 2 minidums and they are also bit old.
So,i'll reply according these minidumps.
Update software\driver for NEC Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver (previous issues w/BSOD's)
Remove symantec\norton from your system (for testing purposes).
Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials with windows firewall enable.

Finish with this steps and post back with results\news.

Im having major issues when trying to start up my Windows Xp PC.
Its only just started and my computer has been running fine before today.
Its extremely hard to explain what has been happening so i took a series of photos of the events that take place during the start up process:

First Screen: Yellow vertical lines appear, colour distorted
Second screen: Weird series of x0i 's appearing all over the screen
Thrid Screen: The Start up option screen printed over the last screen with numerous letters missing
After that the Normall Windows xp start up screen, colour distorted and eventually it feezes at this screen and the computer restarts itself.
Now the weirdest thing is, it did this about 6 times then i left it for 15minutes then came back with the camera to take these pictures and it worked like normall... I scanned my computer no viruses. So i thought it must have been some weird glitch so i started doing my normall thing and about 1 hour later it crashed again, and its doing the same thing again, and thats when i took these pictures.

I have no idea whats causing them and i am really confused that it has worked like normall since it started happening

Could it be my Graphics or video card dying?
Or could it be an error in my hardrive?
Or something else???
Please help, any suggestions would reallllllly be helpfull

Thanks alot, Cheers

So I turn my computer off one day only to find it wont start the next day. I open the case up and see the led is on. I flip the switch on the power supply off then on and quickly press the power button. My computer starts but the following time I shut down the computer it again wont start and now the led is blinking. I've never had any issues like this before, any help would be appreciated.

I don't routinely use many usb devices, only my mouse and keyboard and every now and then my ipod. I figure the issue is likely either the power supply or the motherboard. The ps is almost two years old while the motherboard is only about three months old.

A:Computer wont start, power supply wont start, blinking led

It sounds to me like your PSU is the problem, get a hold of another and plug it to your computer and see if that will make it start, if it doesn't it might be BOTH your motherboard and PSU. A bad PSU will burn a motherboard.

Compaq Presario v6000, vista Home Premium

looking at my update history, updates were always successful until 11/15/2007, when a kb941600 update failed (800F0826). from there, occasionally an update will work, but most wont. there are hundreds and hundreds of failed ones listed. currently we have 59 important and 1 optional update that havent installed. one time i tried downloading them and it failed, then the next time id downloaded, installed, rebooted, then said they didnt configure correctly and reverted. I see no obvious trend in which ones work and which dont, and listing them could take forever. i could post screenshots of the list if that would help.
I can see that windows defender updates work
security updates for vista, or net framework, dont tend to, rarely they will...

i went through a bunch of the most recent errors, here they are, each came up on multiple updates

800F081F - service pack 2 gives this

i tried "microsoft fix it", not the "aggressive" one though
i tried the thing on the microsoft site. other than that i have tried turning off my firewall.
we had a google redirect virus not long ago that we ran about a gazillion fixes and antivirus things for, so im thinking its not a virus problem... although i cant rule out that one changed something in 2007.

any ideas? =/
thanks in advance

Last night I updated windows 8.1 from windows 8.
It got to the stage where it needs to restart so it done that started the configarations and once it reached 100% it restarted.

Since then what happens is when i press power on the samsung logo comes on the screen then the black screen with the windows picture then the bsod comes up for around half a second and it restarts. then it constantly does this.

The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.

Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.

Any ideas?

A:Windows wont start after 8.1 update wont boot in safe mode

What does the BSOD state? Most times it is a driver issue with the Display drivers. Other times it is hardware.

Today I noticed that I could not open my start menu with neither the windows button, ctrl + esc, or a click of the mouse. I've also had a problem the last couple of days saving/opening files in one of the programs I used to make music. I tried to go into safe mode to do system restore, but the safe mode didn't boot. It scrolled all the system files on the screen but then just stopped and nothing happened.

So, I tried the other option (forget what it's called) that lets you perform various other system restoration tasks. I brought up the system restore screen from there, but got an error that said something about corrupt files so it could not perform the restore. I checked again, and all my restore points had been deleted.

Lastly, when I click computer, all the drives are blank with no names beside them, only the icons. I can still click them and they seem to be functioning normally, so I don't know if there is a relation to this. I don't know if some registry files were deleted or if there is some other problem. I didn't notice the start menu/safe mode/blank icon issues until I just recently installed the latest windows update.

Sorry if this seemed a little long winded, but I would appreciate help from anyone.

A:PC Wont start after install new HD

Hello mate now if the drive is making a loud noise then I would hazard a guess at it being faulty I would contact whoever you got it from a for a replacement.

In reality the noise it does make should only be just discernible and tta that a slight whirring sound and maybe some odd ticking clicking noises.

Have you tried touching the device while it is making the noise?? it too should only be very faint vibrations and clicking sensations.

what should i do?

A:guys my computer wont start and wont have a display

does it beep any. if not this will indicate more major problems. (unless you dont have beep speaker installed) a mother board is programed with a set of beep to play if there is a problem like such as three beeps if the ram is not working, 1 long beep if the vid card is not working etc etc. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR BEEPs WILL BE. if you are not getting these then you need to find out why. see if you have a speaker inside your case. if you do and all of your fans spin but still no action from you pc then you may have a larger problem such as mother board or processor.

Can anyone help please?

A:Reformatted XP Computer - Internet wont work.

Does it says 'Connected' on the access point you've connected to?

Try going to Start>Run then type 'cmd' without quotes and a command prompt should be open and try to ping there by typing 'ping' without quotes. This checks whether you are really connected to the internet or not.

I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop that refuses to get past the "Microsoft Corporation" scrolling bar on boot up. I have run various diagnostics and hardware seems fine. Hi, when we start the computer up it acts like its going to start up normally but then theres the BSOD for a split second and then it tries to start up again and same thing happens again and again until I hit escape. Then it brings up a black page with options that say "Launch Startup Repair" and "Start Windows Normally". When I hit start windows normally it goes into the BSOD loop. The Launch startup repair has a recovery screen that comes up but there was never a backup restore point so it cant go back to anything, and the other options end up not working. Im not sure how to fix this. My other computers have Windows 7 but it came installed on them so I dont have a disk or anything for it.

A:BSOD and wont start up

I take it you don't have a system backup to an external hard drive that you could restore from.  That being the case, go to another Windows 7 system and make a repair disc, boot from it and try the repair.  To make the repair disc, find a 32 or 64 bit Windows 7 the same as yours, then click Start -> Control Panel -> Backup and Restore -> Create a system repair disc.  Insert a blank CD-R and it will make it.  Take it to your computer, boot from it, and do the repair.  Hopefully that will fix the problem.  If it doesn't, you'll need to boot from a live CD (Like Ubuntu Linux), save any data you don't want to lose, then restore to factory settings.
Good luck.

Hi, I also just downloaded service Pack 2, and now my system won't start up. It tries to boot, but fails.

Now here's the catch: A few months ago my old PC crashed and I had a tech put my old hard c: drive into my new PC, so that my old files (still on XP OS) would be saved, but the new PC had a Vista OS and would run on my F:drive.

So I think what's happening is that somehow the service pack 1 update has somehow changed my c:drive (the hard drive from the old PC) to my default drive, when actually it should be reading the F:drive.

How can I verify this and how do I change this back??

Please help.
Thank you!

My problem is outlined in these two threads and stated better then I can; they also show the same errors im getting with some pictures at these two links .Yet they don't offer a working solution to my problem.

1 Enable Windows 10 firewall to install fonts - 404 Tech Support

2. Unable to install fonts on Windows 10 - Super User
Windows Fire Wall will not Start. Fonts Will Not install. These issues are supposedly related.
I suspect a hacker , after I used some questionable software.; that is what I believe caused this. But I am unsure.

All I know is I have to get this issue resolved so I can install my fonts and get back to work. I'm losing money because clients want me to design for them, and I can't without getting these fonts installed.

A:Windows Firewall wont start. Fonts will not install

You don't say if you tried any steps to fix it but the 1st thing I would do is right click Start choose Run and type services.msc, scroll down to Windows Firewall and set to auto or at least manual if you're running a 3rd party firewall and if not then set the start to auto as you should leave it running anyway. If the tab where you change it's statues is greyed out go back to Run enter "regedit" (without the quotes) and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MpsSvc and make sure the Start DWORD value in the right pane is set to 2 then restart your computer. Since you mentioned questionable software you should also run a scan with Malwarebytes and I would also consider something like the E-Set online scanner or similar before anything else

A:Newbie bsod. Wont boot, wont even turn on most times, but does sometimes

If I leave it alone for a few hrs, the system might seem like its going to work, the on switch goes blue lit, theres the normal beep it makes, the three lights on the keyboard flash, then i get packard bell screen for split second which gives me options like enter BIOS, but that scares me. Then it will go straight to the American Trends page i explained earlier and wont go further

Then if you switch power off again and see what happens, it may not even power up next time, no blue lit on, a split second of fan noise then nada. Or it may have nothing happen except you can hear the fan running and the dvd drive can open

Of course she cant find her vista disc!!! We will find it 2moro somewhere though. There is no important data on the pc so if it was possible to reinstall vista I would just leave it in to get fixed. I got quoted 25 pounds.

Can anyone help me out or have any clue. My brother had a problem last month with a firefox update which gave him similair trouble. But lucky for him, it resolved itself after 3 days of turning it on/off and hoping for the best

Hello everyone. first off, thanks for taking the time to consider my problem.

i know this is quite a redundant issue, thank you for your patience.

First off this is a newly built computer, all fresh components. after cleaning/activating the hdd via shift +f10 at win7 setup,(which took me a day to figure out) i was very excited to see my hdd available for win7 installation. as i proceed windows does its thing, after installing its time for the first restart. it restarts right back to the initial windows 7 setup. ive done a lot of research, and majority of the problems seem to be the boot priority in bios. so i made sure that it was usb-hdd, then hard drive. (win7 on flash drive for me, no dvd burner available). still the same thing, right back to initial setup. i tried maybe to remove the flash drive during the 10 second countdown to restart, but when it restarts, the windows splash screen comes up and then blue screens and restarts real quick. cant see what the error is on bsod,

there have been a couple different start up issues, "windows did not start properly" "select version of windows to start from" (or something to that effect.) but its all the same outcome. windows 7 just wont finish installation.

i know this flash drive works cuz i used it to upgrade on my gf's laptop. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A:windows 7 wont complete install. restarts install or bsod

Did you wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command?

Check for newer BIOS version. If none, Reset BIOS to defaults, set SATA controller to AHCI.

Set HD first to boot in BIOS setup, trigger stick to boot using one-time BIOS boot menu key at boot.

Where did you get Win7? How is it written to stick?

I was playing Skyrim, closed it and steam and only had firefox running, left computer for ~5 min, when came back, I had BSOD. I shut computer and restarted it, now it wont start. I click power on to PC, looks/sounds as if its on, but nothing on screen, no win starting voice on speakers, no piips from box and does not respond to keyboard/mouse nor if I put Windows 7 CD in.

It has couple times before done this, but then it usually starts to work instantly after BSOD or after few hours offline and then reboot. Last time it did this (about couple weeks ago), I changed settings so it would make this log dump file, but now it wont start and cant get the file.

I've just seen your other Thread where Route was helping you and you mentioned you had your Thread removed the Mods may have removed because technically you shouldn't post a Thread Twice because it can confuse matters, I will post on your Other Thread to indicate the Helping has now moved here in a more suited Forum. I don't know if the Mods will agree with this so we will see.

Ok your Problem now, your Description seems to indicate that the HDD maybe faulting, And it seems you can't even Access the OS. We'll try to get you access back to the OS first.

Laptop's have a Recovery Console they don't get OS Disks and if they do it is very Rare, to access the Recovery Console you need to turn the system on and press F10 repeatedly until you get into the Recovery Console, now at this point My Knowledge goes on the Subject because I have never needed to use the Recovery Console and so don't know what happens after that. The only thing I know is that the Recovery Console is stored as i386 I think.

Here is a Link on the Microsoft Website that may help you using the Recovery Console -

Post back after you have done this and we will see if you have got back into the OS

I don't know if this is a virus or hardware/software issues or what, but when i start up my computer, it works for a varied length of time, before i get a BSoD(i will post the error when i get the comp to turn on).
When i try to restart, it will either freeze at a random point or i will get a message saying to insert proper boot disk and restart the computer. This continues to happen unless i wait about half an hour before turning it on. but of course when it boots up, the cycle continues. I'll post a dxdiag and error messages/ screenshots when i get it to turn on again

My problem is outlined in these two threads and stated better then I can; they also show the same errors im getting with some pictures at these two links .

1 Enable Windows 10 firewall to install fonts - 404 Tech Support

2. Unable to install fonts on Windows 10 - Super User
Yet they don't offer a solution.

Removed the new card and server boots fine. I actually had two idenitical cards, one for another server and both cards produced the same fault. The card is a Kingston "KTH-PL316ES/4g" - the kingston website suggests it is compatible with the DL180 G6. I installed them to the second white slot nearest the processor (first white slot already occupied) Any ideas?

Yesturday my vista was working great, and on the screen as i went to shut it down said "updating files do not shut down computer 3/3 100%" but it stayed like that for 4 hours, so i turn it off manualy once i turned it back on the next day it asked me for my password i put it in and as it was loading it was vey slow and would take 5-6 minutes for programs to load up.

Also when i go to click on like my internet it dont work, not even my games work, they try to load then freeze. So i did a scan on it and its still having this problem. After i got frustrated i went to shut it down again and it says "logging off" but stays like that for hours, so i have to manualy turn it off. Now with internet issue, it works in safe mode with connection, but not in my normal screen. WHY IS THIS DOING THIS?

I was playing FIFA 14 when I all of a sudden out of nowhere got a BSOD. This has never happened before and now I cant play FIFA 14 - as soon as it starts loading it closes down and goes back to my desktop menu. All my other games on Origin works just fine. As the title says, I cant start windows because it just blue screens for everything.

-startup repair
-reinstalling windows 7

The main errors I've gotten are the ones in the title.
There are some others but the computer restarts before I can read them.

This all started when I woke up yesterday morning and my laptop was off when I turned it on I got the BSOD error SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and since then its just been crashing.

Oh and its an ASUS G73JW in case it matters.

EDIT: 0x0000003B aswell, sometimes it sticks on the starting windows screen, not frozen though, the logo still 'breathes'.
I Removed all my RAM except for 2 sticks (1 of which I couldn't remove without disassembling my laptop) and everything works fine now.

A:Windows wont start in any way. BSOD 0x0000007E and acpi.sys

Sounds like you have hard disk errors. Use Advanced Boot Options to select Repair Your Computer and get to the System Recovery Options. Then select the command prompt. Do the following:chkdsk /r c:
chkdsk /r d:
chkdsk /r e:
chkdsk /r f:.etc until you get the message that the volume could not be opened for direct access. For any drives that do not give the message:
"Windows has checked the file system and found no problems"
run chkdsk again as above. In other words, if it says:
"Windows has made corrections to the file system"
after running the disk check, run the disk check again.

I realize you may only have one disk show up in Windows explorer, but you may have more than one disk through recovery options. This is because the system creates a hidden boot partition (which will be C: in recovery), you may have a recovery partition for your PC that is hidden (which will be D: in recovery), and you will have your primary Windows partition (which may be E: in recovery). A custom PC will likely have at least C: and D: to scan.

I am experiencing the following very strange intermittent problems and evil behavior in XP.

My Start Menu sometimes only appears for a split second when clicked and will not stay displayed. Also minimised apps. wont maximise and apps. and short cuts on the desktop wont launch when double left clicked and instead show properties as if they were right clicked!!

I have done the following to try and resolve these issues.

1. Updated from SP1 to SP 2 as well as all the security updates.

2. Ran Adaware and Spybot to find any unwelcome visitors. Adaware only found one minor issue.

3. Ran Symantec Antivirus which found and quarantined several viruses.

4. Ran WinDoctor which found and said it resolved quite a few issues.

This is really a pain as it makes the system virtually unusable except for when it is behaving which is rare.

Would be grateful for any suggestions, solutions, incantations or workarounds for this issue/s

Kind regards

Hi binaryboy, Welcome to TSG!!

Please post a HJT log for us to review.

Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.

Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

How do I re-install windows vista? Have OS disc, windows will not load at all, under F8 safe mode dont work...system restore wont open nothing does.disc wont start up...when i reboot without pushing any buttons, screen comes up says WINDOWS ERROR RECOVERY and i have the option of LAUNCH STARTUP REPAIR or START WINDOWS NORMALLY...startup repair just restarts my computer and if i start windows normally, it shows the MICROSOFT CORPORATION logo with the line that goes across back and forth right before windows opens..after about 8 seconds then it goes to a blank screen...after about 3-4 minutes, it goes to a blue screen that says STOP: c000021a {fatal system error} The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000221 0x00100348). The system has been shut down.

So, to sum it all up, I turn on my laptop, screen that says GATEWAY and has option for F2 and F10...if I dont do goes to a black screen with curser blinking in top left corner...after about 2 minutes, it goes to Windows Error Recovery where I have the option of launching startup repair or start windows normally... If I launch startup repair, all it does is restart the computer... If I start Win Normally it goes to the Microsoft Corp logo with the line that goes across...then after a few minutes, the BSOD appears...
F8-any option I chose does absolutly nothing...

A:Vista wont start up BSOD Unable to do anything..want to do full system restore.

Lets start at the beginning.
Do you want to recover your system.Install the operating system from Disk & start from again. Both options maybe achievable No. 1 can take a little longer but there is no guarantee of success.
No. 2 can be done quite quickly but you loose everything (If not backed up first) & start from scratch. That is provided you have all the disks & drivers too etc.

So what is your choice?
Waht do you have access to?

I bought this Sony VAIO less than 9 months ago. Specs can be found here:
I upgraded the RAM to 4GB from the 2GB provided.

Within 2 weeks of using this, I have had multiple BSOD, namely IRQL_LESS_OR_EQUAL type of errors. I thought I had isolated it to the Symantec Endpoint Protection v11.3 software and normally using System Restore would fix it. The BSOD and crashes continue to come on and off and would normally be fixed when I do a System Restore.

This time, it just refuses to start in Normal Mode. (Multiple System Restores, Cleanup...) Nothing different was done - no new HW or SW updates. I've submitted a service request to MS -> no response (I couldnt download anything online 'cos it couldnt validate that it was Genuine) and I didnt get any better help from the Sony helpdesk. (Lady on the phone told me to just restore everything to factory default)

Would appreciate if someone can look at the minidump files and let me know how I can fix this problem once and for all. Thank you very much!

Hello there,
It seems like you did not perform a clean installation of Windows and that's why your system is acting up.
Follow the steps below to install a new copy of Windows:
1. To format your hard disk during Windows 7 installation you will need to start or boot your computer using the Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive. Insert your Windows 7 disc in your CD/DVD drive. Please note: will need to restart or turn on your system with the disc in the drive.
2. After turning on your system with the CD in the drive go ahead and press any key when prompted during your computer post routine and then follow the instructions presented on screen. If you don’t see this go back to step 1 to setup your BIOS to boot from CD or USB flash drive depending on your installation media.
3. On the Install Windows page simply enter your preferences and click next.
4. Accept the Windows license agreement.
5. On the “Which type of installation do you want” page go ahead and choose the “Custom” option.
6. Select Drive options (advanced) on the “Where do you want to install Windows” page.
7.  Select the partition that you want to change, choose the formatting option you want to perform and then follow the instructions.
When allocating space choosing the default MB size for your drive is typically the best for most users since you want to take full advantage of all your disk... Read more

Hello, I've a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop which has Vista on it.

Windows will not boot past the main screen, it ends up restarting over and over.

I attempted to install Windows 7 on the drive without doing a clean install. The Installation hung at "Completing Installation"

I installed from a flash drive because for some reason this laptop wont install from the cd rom drive.

I need to salvage many important business related files from the laptop and don't want to do a clean install unless absolutely necessary.

Is it possible to salvage the files from this laptop? I cant boot into it, no safe mode, nor standard boot. Nor can I seem to be able to 'over write' or 'set aside' vista and install windows 7

Please Help

Ok, so a few days ago I was on my computer and it started running a little slow so I decided to restart. This is when all the trouble began... Following the reboot at the welcome screen i was greeted by several registry errors, and a message saying a backup copy of my registry had to be loaded. So I thought ok, why did this happen? So, I rebooted again to make sure every thing was still in check. After the second reboot(not sure if I can call it that) i didn't even get the welcome screen. Instead i got a quick flash of a BSOD stop error and that was it. So after overall reboots, I figured my computer had crashed and decided to do a clean install. I got my original cd free of scratches and formatted the hard drive completely. Then, when setup began to copy the files about 5 different files could not be copied. I tried to install windows AT-LEAST 10 times. I only got past the welcome screen twice and windows was completely crippled, even though it did manage to load. I tried reformatting, repairing the install, created a new partition and tried to install, and all have failed. The thing i find strange is that almost each time it would copy files some of the files would change. So, I am at a loss and don't know what to do or try next any help. I have a 40gb hd, 256 ram, pentium 4,Msi computer with an Aopen motherboard.

A:Windows xp had BSOD. tried to reinstall windows, but it wont install correctly!?

Pity you reformatted, sometimes that BSOD stop code gives a little insight to a problem. Could have referenced to a hardware fault and somewhat ruled out a few possibilities.
I've also had this problem with files not transfering and I just bought another CD and it worked. It happens with Server 2003 too. The CD just suddenly stops working and thats it.
You could try cleaning your CD\DVD drives laser, but thats a bit of long shot really. (didn't help in my case)

I made a thread before about overclocking and all was going well.
After getting to 4.3gz i coudnt get my ram stable so i went back down to 4.0ghz and lowered my voltages to what they were at 4.0ghz stable. I was then fiddling with the ram timings trying to get the Performance enhance option to turbo while still having a 4.0ghz Overclock were as before i set it down to standard. After a few attempts the pc restarted while testing the OC with OCCT. I went straight into the BIOS and realised for some reason it had changed my settings and the CPU was at 3.1Ghz, all my settings had been changed. Not neccesarily default though because a e8400 is 3.0ghz at stock. I changed them back and then BANG. Pc woudnt start. It said that BOOT.MSG was missing. I chnaged the bios settings to default. Same problem. Iv tried to use a windows CD to use repair but i cant find one and after downloading and burning it to a CD it still wont let me use the CD. I tried reflashing the BIOS staying at the same version and that didnt work. Im a bit lost. I dont know why it randomly corrupted i was being sensible and make ever so slight changes and had previously had no problems what so ever it was only until i went back down from the overclock.
(Iv also had checksum errors, Kernel is missing and this: File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc0000034
something about coudnt read a file at boot up..)
Any help would be much appreciated

A:PC wont boot, different errors occuring after OC

Should i try removing the motherboards battery???
Update- randomly somehow gave me a option to boot into safe mode so thts a start and it worked.

I am having a lot of problems with DLL errors.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1

It started with Windows Live Movie Maker, I tried to run it and it came up with an error saying "failed to access d3d10_1core.dll". So I researched the problem and did the following:

1. Reinstalled Movie Maker from the Microsoft website
2. Reinstalled DirectX from Microsoft website
3. Updated nvidia graphics card drivers to the latest ones
4. Virus scan with Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes [all clean]
5. Checked Recycle bin for the missing dll [it wasn't there]
6. Run sfc/ scannow in CMD. This found corrupted files but could not fix some of them.
7. Updated windows to the latest updates [Internet Explorer 10 refuses to install, constantly fails]
8. Tried all the previous steps in Safe Mode
9. Tried a system restore point but that just FAILED too

Nothing has worked. In fact Movie Maker no longer opens and other programs won't work either.

I browsed the web a bit more and someone said to check dxdiag for some information but that won't start either. It said the same error "failed to access d3d10_1core.dll". If I try to access it now it has a different error. A window states... " Error: Could not load DXDIAGN.dll"
Adobe Premiere Pro also will not open, error = "HandlerAudioMiniMixer.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error."

Any help would be much appreciated as this... Read more

* These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (probably a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

If you have raid > update its Driver.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver verifier

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you... Read more

Normal activity. you cant run it from within an OS. Simply put its asking do you want to do this at the next reboot. Yes it works, yes you can force a dismount but you really dont want to (can lead to weirdness). Check yes and on next reboot it will perform the chkdsk before windows starts.

After only just having one problem solved on here I have encountered another and I think it is fairly problematic but am far from understanding it - please help!!!

I downloaded the new version of Internet Explorer (version 8) as this was an option when I signed onto the web this afternoon (I previously had IE 7 and am running Windows XP version 2).

But after downloading this I had trouble getting onto the net (though I seemed to be able to initially). So I restarted the PC. But, it did not restart.

Instead I get the following message on a plain black screen when I try to run my computer:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

What is this file? I have an Acer Aspire notebook which came installed with Windows XP Version 2 (I have no CD drive currently).

I have looked on the microsoft website (I am currently on a different PC) but dont understand anything that is posted on their about this problem.

Do I need to re-install a new operating system? Will this mean I will loose all my data that is on my computer? This is very precious to me as I am travelling and I have saved on my computer photos and diary entries - I would be very upset to loose them.

What is my best course of action? Should I take it to a specialist. Again I really hope I can prevent the information that I did have saved on there from being deleted.

Thankyou to anyone who can assist.

ok theres a few, first of all none of my DVDs will play on my laptop, the drive recognizes its a DVD but it reads the disc as data i think, i can FORCE playback sometimes but if it has foreign languages or menus it'll start up in the middle of the movie. at the same time i also had trouble with my audio, no matter what program i use to play them, what format they are in or what bitrate they are recorded in it will have an audio error (like a skip r smear during playback) and it will happen intermittenly, but at least once per song, usually 3 to 5 times. ive cleaned up the registry the best i could and installed some patches but it STILL doesnt fix it. its so bad that i wud rather dump all my mp3s on my 120 GIG and buy a new laptop and put them on it.

LogonUI.exe - Bad Image
c:\Windows\system32\certCredProvider.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media etc.

I am able to exit out of this dialog box and im eventually able to log in and get on but it takes much longer than normal.

I also get the same errors but they have Chrome.exe, skytel.exe, AsScrPro.dll, and DirectConsolee.exe, as the bad image. And in the box it says that PowrPROF.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains etc.
I get the chrome.exe ones while im browsing the internet and they pop up like 5 at a time and are really annoying, but once I exit them I can go back to surfing.

This is probably related to my other problem which is that my laptop will not enter sleep mode when I close the lid. It just freezes with a black screen and I have to reboot.

Le sigh.

Brand new netbook with windows seven running on it.

Tried to download VLC player install. When I go to open it I get the NCIS error:

"Install integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy".

Re-downloaded it from different sites. Cleared browser, checked settings, tried cmd /NCRC. No luck. Then downloaded a no installer version of it and when I went to open it with WinRar it said:

"The archive is in either an unknown format or damaged."

Repaired it, extracted it somehow, but still cannot open the .exe. It says:

"The program can't start because libvlccore.dll is missing from your computer. Try reininstalling the program to fix this problem".
SO I have no idea what else to do. It's been hours of me trying different things. I submit to you. Any ideas?

A friend of mine is asking for help and I am powerless since I do not have windows vista so I thought about you guys! There is the problem:

with Windows Vista , in Windows Mail, if you've sent too large a file, you've got trouble. the mail server is not microsoft (Hotmail or MSN)
It won't send, but keeps trying to send, it won't delete in any conventional and non conventional method and although there is an update to handle this issue, it isn't applicable to our Vista machine, as it's about eighteen months old, therefore a dinosaur in the world of technology.

She does'nt want to download or create another email server that would require changing her email address. She downloaded Incredible because she CAN retain her email address, and will use it until she find a way to get that sent file that won't go deleted from Windows Mail.. Can you help? Thanks

A:PSU died, new PSU, bios wont recognize SATA devices, now wont turn on

I had a similar problem when I had an Antec PSU die on me. After I replaced it, my Biostar mobo's BIOS would no longer retain settings, and both my Pioneer DVD burners were completely dead. Not recognized in the BIOS, they would not acknowledge any discs inserted, nothing worked. I also started getting BSODs pointing to a corrupt BIOS. Replacing the burners didn't help. Putting the Pioneer burners in a new machine didn't work.

It turned out that the dying Antec PSU had wrecked the Biostar's BIOS chip and both Pioneer DVD burners. Replacing the BIOS chip was more expensive than buying a new motherboard, and reflashing the chip wasn't possible because the flash utility told me I already had the latest BIOS version. I ended up trashing the board and buying an ASRock board and Samsung burners.

If you get a new motherboard (or try another known-good working PC), and you connect your present SATA devices and they don't work, then the dying Seasonic may have burnt them out, too.

I've had SO much trouble with my Norton Internet Security of late. I've used the program for three years now with no dramas however, around a week ago it started only wanting to open when it felt like it! Then a few days later our computer received the virus backdoor.tidserv. I believe its been removed as I have used Malwarebytes and SDFix. Everything is now back on track EXCEPT Norton! When Norton started running its live update program it simply shutdown - never to start up again only stating - 'this norton product won't open' lol, thats it. It did have a download link to Symantec's website however, it has done nothing. Still not opening I wanted to uninstall HOWEVER, it freezes on the uninstall! I tried the Norton Removal Tool (lol FROM Symantec) however, this for some reason wont allow me to download stating something about Ports FTP.. I hae no idea about all that. So, I'm now here .. If somebody has an idea ANY WHICH WAY to tackle this be it a better program to get rid of Norton or.. how to fix the ports .. maybe I have a virus I dont know about??

HELP! please... Also, if I do go around getting rid of Norton would anyone know a free internet security system to tie me over til I get to the shops??

A:Norton Internet Security - Wont open! Wont uninstall?! Virus?

Hi .Symantec is not the only company which makes malware-defense programs which are effective, I used NAV, NIS, and NSW for about 6 years as I experimented with programs.First thing you need to do is remove NIS, using the Norton Removal Tool -;pkb=sharedtech There are any number of free AV programs and free firewalls which do the job. I believe that this forum has a list of such, if not...just Google and read.Did you try just...uninstalling via Add/Remove Programs?Louis

Internet Explorer - Will download anything with no problem. Everything works like normal but when you go and check where your file is where you had put it, nothing is there. I did a computer search and it finds the file where it is suppose to be but Its not there O_O. When I try and drag the file from the search it just becomes a shortcut that leads no where.
Google Chrome - Won't download a single thing. Everything fails it's "Virus Scan".
I've tried Googling both problems and found lots of people with both of the same problems I'm having and tried there solutions and it's gotten me no where. I also ran Malwarebytes and it said I was clean. Not sure what to do here . Any help is appreciated. thanks
EDIT: Also I have Windows Vista

Ok so I have a HP Mini 110 and lately my computer has been acting strange. It wont shut down. If I try to shut it down it will act like its shutting down then re boot back up. If it goes to "sleep" (the buttons are still lit, typically the power button will just flash on and off) it wont wake up unless I use the power button.

Now this all started happening when my computer stopped or failed to update my language packs which took 28 hours to fully finish. Only 14 out of the 32 downloaded ok fine so i shut it down to just finish those that were installed. Ok so shutting down then the whole "Dont turn off your computer installing updates" then it gets stuck at 15 % then it goes to a black screen that i think said something like "initiating updates in 0 outta 321472 files" this took a good hour to finish. Then brought me back to the 15% screen then that changed to "Updates Failed" and something else, then the computer restarted.

WHAT DO I DO?? could it possibly be a virus???

I stupidly downloaded a file from Limewire which was suppose to be software for covertining music files. It never worked and since my computer has got worse and worse!

(note i am even having to use a different computer to use this forum)

Norton, aol and windows antivirus fail to find and destroy any viruses and all crash after so long of scanning. AOL spyware protection keeps blocking files called Virtumonde BY AND Virtumonde K, but will not let me delete them.

When connected to internet, no matter what web address i put in it always goes to the same webpage. Some kind of spyware i imagine. When disconnected something keeps trying to connect.

Other symtoms are -

computer crashes randomly.
computer restarts itself randomly
When i click on help and support it wont open and trys to connect to the internet.
when shutting down, the end task msg for - rundll32.exe appears
Safe mode does not work and simply wont start.
When windows starts and the screen to put in your password appears, i do so and press enter, then it flashes and goes back to that screen so i have to put it in again.
When windows loads up errors appear -
hpqthb08.exe application error
pchnotify.exe application error

Half of the system memory is always in use, even tho i have no software open (commit charge: 488M / 1248M)

HP PC SYSTEM RECOVERY seams like the best think to do (already on my computer) and just completely reset my computer back to factory settings but this just restarts windows and does nothing... Read more

Ok, it all started when i was dloading a program to make windows setups.(.msi). Then i decided i didnt like it and uninstalled it. After tht was done. I decided i was going to stick with Inno Setup. I have used it before and liked it. But then i noticed all or most of my desktop icons were missing. And all the start menu ientries were missing. So i figured i had a virus. SO i went to do a system resotre. But found that i oculdnt find it...due to to missing folders. So i decided i would then try to boot into safe mode. When i tried to boot it said it cannot find a file(same with normal mode). Ubfortunely i dont remember what it said. I think it said windows cannot find NRDL press ctrl alt delete to reboot. or somthing like that. Any ways i tried a few more times and it all failied. SO then i tried the windows recovery console. Nothing. I really didnt know whre to go with it. Then i decied to go into the bios and reset. Or i thought i was resseting them. I seleteced. "fails proof settings". But then i rebooted and things got worse. My monitor is now getting no signal, it says it is ocnnected though..... So i cant see what i am doing. Please any ideas. I have a Programming project that i have been working on for months now. i dont wanna lose that. And a Lang arts project. I am very computer savvy but i have tried everything. and yes i tried a differ monitor. No Dice.

My firefox was working absolutely fine.

Today when I opened in firefox 3.0.8, i cudnt see the arrows besides New Posts and Quick Links at the top. On clicking either of the above 2 links, it does not give a drop down menu but the page just refreshes. Also I am not able to use any of the formatting options in the message textbox on the Post New Thread or Post New Message page. Im not even able to use the formatting options in the Quick Reply text box. Also, when I write a message in which I have used [Enter] for a new line and put 3 paragraphs in a message, the message when posted appears as one single, that is it is not recognising the [enter/return].

The drop down menus for the forum options bar(the menu above which has options: Security& HJT, Software & Hardware, Operating Systems, Internet & Networking, General Tech, Community) is working fine.

The other thing is that I cannot open Gmail normally. After sometime it tells me Try Reloading the Page. Gmail opens in basic HTML.

Techguy and Gmail both are working absolutely fine in IE7(wish it was the other way round, I wudnt even have bothered).

I am posting this message using IE7.

Please help...

For some reason, my logon background image isnt showing up anymore, and when I try to change back to the way I had done it, regedit wont run, I've searched the forums for an answer, with no luck. And when I go to click grant admin full control, it brings up an open with menu, so I need a command script to grant admin to certain files again.

Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

Please help, and thanks. And no, I dont have any viruses or malware, I take good care of my computer.

A:Regedit wont run, and grant admin full control context menu wont work

Hello ElliottGenocide

Firstly do you have a system restore point available from before these problems occurred - System Restore
Can you remember what it was you changed in the registry.
Have a look through this,it has a copy of the default background and an application to change the logon background without having to touch the registry - Log On Screen - Change
I would also run this - SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker see if that helps.
