Y510p boots everything slowly

Q: Y510p boots everything slowly

Hello all and thanks in advance,I am at work right now but will give more info when I can, and forgive me if I put this in the wrong area of the forum. My Y510 is the top model with 16gb of memory, 1tb HDD + 24gb SSD and dual NVidia GT 755m SLI config. PROBLEM: My hardware seems to be slowing down dramatically. I?ve tried the typical startup repair and refresh from an installation media USB stick, and even the USB media takes forever to load and then hangs from screen to screen. The PC is about 2 years old and the only REAL modification I?ve done to it is flash a modded BIOS (hardware whitelist removed). The PC has been running strong up until a few months ago. It is normally used for school and hasn?t had any really heavy workloads in a while. I barely game on it and haven?t done so in more than 6 months. I haven?t been able to boot into my desktop for a couple of days. It takes hours sometimes. WHAT I?VE TRIED: Automatic startup repair: FAILRefresh Windows 10 installation while keeping files: FAILRan CHKDSK with no negative results. No bad sectors or fragmentationBootrec.exe /fixboot /fixMBR /scanos: SUCCESS. RebuildBCD: FAIL (finds the installation, type y for yes, then can?t locate it) SFC ScanNow: FAIL (can?t remember exact message)Removed SSD cache drive: Made it worse (I read this on another post and some people have had success with it but not I)Reset BIOS to default: NothingReseated memory sticks: No resultCompleted a 6 pack of IPAs: SUCCESS So I am at a loss right now. Sounds indicative of a memory issue, right? I don?t know whether to get more sticks or more beer..Thanks again in advance

I have Kaspersky, Registry Mechanic, PerfectDisk, Spybot, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and Adaware. I run them all periodically, and I also regularly run CheckDisk.

On top of this, however, my computer still loads slowly at the desktop (the XP splash screen only takes about 2 seconds to pass; I'm just saying it takes a long time when the PC loads at the desktop, the HDD LED staying on for about 2 minutes). What can I do to fix this?
PS: I should mention that my computer has 2GB of RAM, an AMD X2 4200+, and a 500W PSU. It also has one HDD, whose size is 320GB and ~150GB of which is already used up.

As usual, Gateway Tech Support didn't provide any helpful information.

About a week ago I was listening to a media file when it started skipping. Then the system froze up and I got the blue screen. I didn't write down the error message because I assumed a simple reboot would fix it. It started taking forever to reboot. I tried booting in safe mode and it said that there was an unmountable boot volume. Well, I went ahead and ran chkdsk /r and that fixed the problem.

However, the same thing has happened twice more, both times while listening to media files. I wrote down the error and it was something like kernel_stack_inpage_error. I didn't write down anything more detailed. Anyway, both of those times, when I rebooted the machine would get past the BIOS loading screen, then just before the Windows XP splash screen is supposed to load a black screen hung for about 1 minute. Then a bunch of white hash marks appeared at the bottom of my screen. After about 2 minutes, I realize it is some kind of status bar because the hash marks turned into a white bar running across the screen. Once that finished, the XP splash screen loaded and went into Windows normally. Now every time I boot up this happens (not the kernel error, just the hash marks).

I did a search for the error I received but I apparently didn't write down enough to be able to pinpoint the error. I've tried a virus scan, a spyware scan, scandisk and system restore to before the problem started and it s... Read more

A:XP Boots Up Slowly

well a quick check for virus...

set your bios to boot to floppy 1st
ide-0 2nd etc

then using a win98 bootdisk http://www.bootdisk.com/
as floppy starts hit shift f5 to get A/ prompt
type fdisk /mbr http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q69013/
to verify what I am saying won't toast your comp

then goto safemode disable system restore
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...rc=sec_doc_nam
http://www.pchell.com/virus/systemrestore.shtml
then run a complete virus scan
I suggest Antivir http://www.free-av.com/
but that is my personal preference,

after completed and rebooted
let me know if that helped

I'm not sure what I did to make this happen. I kinda feel like I have some nasty bit of adware or something slowing down my boot time.

Basically, on a reboot, it'll be fine, then when it hits the "Welcome" screen, it hangs for a few minutes. Then, the desktop pops up, with no taskbar or icons, also for a few minutes. Finally, the boot will finish the rest of the way, but if I open My Computer, it'll searchlight for another few minutes before popping up.

I think its unrelated, but whenever I play a graphics-intensive game, the machine locks up, but I think that's a thermal problem with the VC (had to fix the fan more than once).

I've run virus checks, Spybot, and AdAware. Below is my HUT log, but I don't see anything worrisome.

I'm at a loss! Anyone up for a challenge?

Hi everyone.
I have a problem and I was hoping someone could help me~!
My computer all of a sudden became really slow
and I turned it off and turned it back on
but the black page with the windows symbol and the bar scrolling
across was on forever! So I turned it off and turned it back on again
and it took like 10 minutes for everything to actually load.
Also, when I try to watch something on youtube the sound is weird..
I guess it's skipping? or distorted? because my computer is so slow.
Could someone please please help me?
I've added my hijackthis log.
Thank you so so so much.
I've tried searching for other threads but my log is different
from others so I decided to post my own. Thank you again!

A:Windows boots very slowly

hmmmm.

You should start by going into msconfig (in the run commmand) and going to the startup tab. Here it will show a list of all programs launched on startup, From here uncheck all the boxes belonging to programs that arent absolutely necassery to basic use. Then reboot and see how long start up takes after the reconfiguration.

Hi. I need some help. My Windows 8 boots very slowly. From bios to loading screen, around 30 seconds, from loading screen to desktop (skipping metro aps with start 8 program) aroun 35 seconds. All in all, 65 seconds from BIOS to desktop, and 15 second to full responsiveness of windows, that is around 80 seconds, and that is too long. I disabled most of starting programs in msconfig, put no GUI boot, enabled all cores and memory, disabled all Microsoft services. No luck. Then I found your tutorial, and I did step one, I enabled quick boot. But loading time is the same, whether I restart or shutdown the computer. Pls help if u have any suggestions. Thanks.

Did you UPGRADE instead of a clean install? That could be your problem, because your system specs shouldn't have any issues booting.

Hi! My windows 7 installation takes about 4 minutes to boot, I had it for one year. In the beginning it a little less than 2 minutes.

I have eliminated unnecessary startup processes using msconfig but it did not help a lot. Is it normal that boot time slows down with time?

I wouldtry seperating the HDD off of the IDE channel with the ROM drive. It is not a good idea to put them on the same channel.
I would make the HDD the Master on the Primary CH and the Rom the Master on the Secndary.

I recently installed a Seagate HDD Model: ST1000DM003-1CH162, Serial: Z1DDFCEY, Firmware: CC49. It boots up and shutsdown very slowly. The SATA setting is set to AHCI in UEFI Bios. My mother board is an AsRock Z97 Extreme 4. I am using the latest firmware and no updates are available. I created the disk using Copy Drive in Casper 7.0 from my Samsung SSD. How can I resolve this issue ?

A:New Seagate HDD Boots Up and Shutsdown very Slowly.

SSD drives and mech drives use a different partition offset. I have no idea if the drive utility you used will apply the correct offset.

Is there some reason why you would not use the free version of acronis true image? This is available on the seagate site.

Well I have a media center PC.. and it was a display unit so it had problems. The hard drive had to be changed due to a bad sector... and now I have a feeling my RAM is poor.

What happens is the PC boots up really slowly, and also sometimes the CPU hangs and shows it busy with lights, it also sounds like the CPU is starting up again with a click...

How can I speed up the booting?

A:Boots soooooo slowly yet such a new computer?!

It makes clicking sounds when it is starting up? In all my experiences right before a harddrive would go out on me, it would start making clicking sounds. Could be why it hangs up with the harddrive led lite up because it is having difficulty reading the drive. But that is just speculation.

Or, it could be clicking because your harddrive it having to work its butt off because of insufficient RAM. And it could be hanging up briefly while starting up because the harddrive (which is naturally a slower device) is having to pick up too much of the slack. How much RAM do you have in the system?

I am running WinXP Pro on an Athalon 2400+ with 512megs of RAM. When I boot windows it takes it a good 5 mintues to open all of my startup programs and get to a point where I can actually use my system. It didn't always take this long. I havn't installed anything new lately. I also did a Ctrl+Alt+Del and watched the Processes tab to see how much memory usage was being used. There were only two programs that were using over 10,000K and those were both under 20,000K. Also, my CPU Usage % was around 10% with some spikes to 30-40%.

Is there something I can check, or a program I can run that will tell me what's taking my computer so long to boot up?

Hello all! I just spent the better part of three days working on, and fixing, my rig's updating problems to SP1. Finally worked it out. Now, my WEI is 7.4-7.5 for all but my primary hard disk - data transfer rate rating is 5.9. This doesn't make sense as I run my system's OS on my crucial m4 2.5 inch STAT 6.0 SSD with 128GB of capacity. I have 40GB free and my boot times are terribly slow, like 1.5 to 2 minutes. I went into msconfig and removed anything that wasn't bare bones necessary for start-up. I used to boot in 15 seconds.

Any ideas? Or, should I post this in hardware?? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

hello friends,
pls give me some sol. to my problem ...i m very frustrated with this crap ....my problem is:
i have just installed window xp sp3 on my desktop..first few days it works fine ...but now it becomes very slow ...its takes 5-6 min. to boot and all other programmes also work very slow...for example when i use any player to play video files it works with sound lags and sometimes video lags also....i have desktop with configuration :
motherboard- intel D102
RAM-512 mb
HDD-80 gb
no video graphics card
is this problem is due to faulty IDE bus or due to incorrect power supply by SMPS or any virus problem...but it doesn't seem any virus problem coz i have fully updated latest version of Kaspersky antivirus and it shows clean pc....
before sp3 i had xp sp2 and it was doing good ...but one day suddenly it starts behaving the same way as i told u...so i format my hdd....and install xp sp3....pls give me some sol. i m very confused......and frustated

A:window xp sp3 running very slowly,boots very slow...etc

open windows task manager thats ctrl+alt+del keys check performance tab with pc just showing the desktop.
check the PF usage and the cpu usage if the Pf usage is on the high side check its value against the 512mbts memory installed..if cpu usage is high % then you have to find the program using it to excess.
video on board will be using up to or at least 32megs of memory so that leaves less for the system to run on.windows needs all of 512m memory to run smoothly 1 to 2 gig is better.
check all program files in msconfig (run) menu startup tab thats are not to run at startup. and untick the check box on each
don't touch any system or windows files..

My 2-year old Sony VAIO VPCEB16FG model laptop, having Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, is taking up more than 5 to 10 minutes to get into usable condition.
This has been the case since the last month. I'm utterly confused as to what to do now, I've tried all possible tweaks, updated drivers, and what not ! The condition hasn't improved. There is general performance degradation too.

A:Sony VAIO laptop (Win 7 HP 64-bit) boots up slowly

Hello Droboman and welcome to Seven Forums.

The first thing I'd do is run a full scan using your installed anti-virus suite. No AV product is 100% effective 100% of the time (if there was such a thing we'd all be using it.) Running a couple of addition on-demand scanners is always a good idea. These free tools are highly recommended on this Forum:

Windows Defender Offline

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

If the malware scans come back clean I would next check for damaged or corrupt system files by running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot the computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Some other things that help to improve boot time are check disk, defragmentation, and disk cleanup (including cleaning up unnecessary system files.)

Disk Check

Disk Defragmenter - Open and Use

Disk Cleanup - Open and Use

And finally, if you're still having boot problems, try doing a clean boot (AKA clean startup.)

FIXED UPDATE!! Reset the bios and that fixed everything. Apparently "I didn't do anything except run F9 diagnostics" (said the culprit friend) meant they went in the bios and fiddled around but failed to mention it or they had no idea what they did. That'll teach me not to trust that statement...

Slow to a crawl to start up, 20 minutes later when finally at desktop the CPU is running at 100%. The ONLY way to get it to desktop without problems is to put in a copy of Hirens boot disk and choose the first option which is "boot from hard drive". This goes right to desktop as if nothing is wrong, perfect CPU, everything in startup is on including services, NOT one problem!

HP Pavilion Media Center m8400f
- This computer originally came with Vista but had been upgraded to Win 7 ultimate with no issues.
- Has Trend titanium maximum security installed on it, seemed to be working fine also before issues started.

Friend claims they opened it up to vacuum it, did nothing wrong. Closed it up turned it on, had an error. They then panicked and shut it off (without writing down or taking a pic of error) turned it back on and it ran slow, claimed they ran "F9 diagnostics",  then brought it to me. Now I am trying to figure out what the hell happened. Here is what has been done.
As I stated you have to use Hirens boot disk to get to desktop to do anything, once there you can remove it and go about your business. If you restart it with the disk out it all goes to crap... Read more

With all due respect...I suggest that you take this system to a reliable computer shop .

A system where an O/S cannot be installed...and which dates to 2008...could have many contributors to problems, all of which would (obviously) be of hardware origin.

What is the source of your Win 7 Ultimate...on a system designed for Vista?  Do you have a valid license to install Win 7 Ultimate?

Ok so i recently upgraded from home premium. back them my computer would boot in about 35 seconds, but now it takes at least 2 minutes to boot up. I tried booting my computer up in verbose mode and everything was normal until right after the message about my os version, this message says :
"cannot determine filesystem on drive /??/9A3B-432DCB32-34998-5BDA7/"

after this message my computer boots up normally. now I notice in the my computer section a drive called "removeable disk E" i check all my usb ports and nothing.
I try to open the drive and i get a message saying "no disk in drive", pretty standard.
but here comes the weird part, when i try to right click on the drive it crashes Explorer!
I'm sure what is happening is when windows boots it trys to open this drive and can't, which is what is making my computer boot slowly. But the question is: how do i get rid of this drive?

I looked at it in the windows partition manager and it says that the drive is in the MBR so i'll try deleting it, and restarting, hopefully i'll be back

Nope didnt help, but now the drive is gone

A:Vista Boots SUPER slowly, ghost drive the culprit

never mind, I fixed the problem, it was my integrated card reader, it didnt have the correct drivers so windows was trying to boot from it, installed the correct drivers and now everything is normal.

I'm sure this isn't a new problem or new post asking about that. But I still make this post because every solution I tried didn't work.

Symptom: My Windows 7 64bit boots slowly with a long Welcome screen, then a black screen with cursor for about 5 - 10 seconds and the wallpaper with icons appears.
Video: YouTube
System infomation: Asus K55A

Intel 3230 2.60 Ghz, Intel HD 4000

Not many softwares, Office 2010 is the biggest software I installed

Used solutions:

- Remove start-up programs

- Update drivers and windows system, BIOS

- Run cleaning tool for partition C

- Run defragment tool
- Scan virus, malware with Panda and MBAM

To make sure this is a software problem related to system, I install another Windows 7 on the same laptop, different partition. It has many programs (Photoshop, VirtualBox) taking more space than the first Windows 7 . This Windows boots much faster without disabling startup programs and services. Also It hasn't been updated regularly, even drivers. This windows just has drivers from 2014.

It seems silly, but I have to say that can be explained. To check what happens in booting these two windows, I use boot log.

Bootlog in my first Windows 7 (Slow boot), 461 kb txt file, in the seconds Windows (Fast boot), 18.3 kb

In bootlog of the slow booting OS, many lines say "Did not load driver....", in fast-booting os, just a little

So now I think the root cause is drivers which are loaded in booting proccess. And notice that, I have re-install... Read more

Please help, my computer isn't very useful right now. Here's the deal:

1. My computer keeps on freezing up on me, and I don't even have many programs running. When my computer finally starts up, I log onto windows, and it takes seriously two or three minutes for windows to load; two weeks ago it took 20-30 seconds for windows to load. When windows finally loads, and I click on a program (ie. Internet Explorer or Opera Web Browser), it takes another five to seven minutes for one the programs to appear on the screen, then another minute or two for the program to load. When I close a program, it does one of two things; my computer will freeze, and I'll have to restart it; or, it will take a couple of minutes to close the program. And I'm just working with the basics; Internet explorer, opera, open office, and windows media. I'm trying to add music to my newly added iTunes library, but that's almost impossible.

2. My computer won't shut down. This computer is only seven months old, it's too young for such problems. When I go to shut my computer down, I select the shut down icon from the start menu, and expect my computer to shut down. Rather than shutting down, windows pop up telling me that the programs that I had been running are not responding, and I have the option to wait or end the program. I end the program, and the window comes up again, it's almost like my computer isn't properly responding to its commands. Again ... Read more

Hi. My computer has been running much slower than normal. When you open a new window or even try to select a user from the first screen, it really takes its time. Even once the window is open, you can still hear the wheels turning inside the box like it is really struggling to run its basic operating system. When you type something into a web page text box, there is a lag from when I press the key to when the letter shows up.

I have Windows XP and an AMD processor (I don't know which one).

Thanks

Hi everyone,

Ive got a few issues with my PC at the moment.

The first issue is that it boots twice before the third attempt which boots windows properly.

Once it does boot it seems to continually display Windows 8.1 Build 9600 on the bottom right screen of the desktop.

My computer also has an issue with the network adapters after it turns on. It doesn't display any adapters and the light where the ethernet cable usually lights up does not light up anymore when plugged in. Also the network adapter's folder is empty.

It is very difficult to find information due to the fact that I cannot acess the internet once my pc has booted due to the issues so finding a solution is difficult and posting specs of my pc is also difficult.

Im just worried maybe it is an issue with the power supply?

I installed Windows 10 last year and had to uninstall it due to wi-fi connectivity dropping.   Searching the internet, this seemed to be a frequent problem and Lenova did not support Windows 10 for the Y510P and did not provide drivers. I really liked windows 10 and would love to go back to it.    Is anyone running it, and how did you resolve the wi-fi connectivity issue?    I see on the Lenova Website they still don't list Windows 10 for this model.    Too bad.  Makes me really dislike Lenova products when they don't support OS upgrades.

A:Overclocking GPU and CPU in y510p

If you use the Intel Xtreme Tuning utility you can adjust the multipliers but that is all. The CPU already runs way to hot (and throttles as a result) so overclocking it will only make it worse. I did the opposite and undervolted mine so not only does it run cooler but it doesn't throttle anymore so it actually runs faster then a stock one.

I have a Lenovo Y510p. My warranty expired over a year ago, but my screen recently broke. I've tried to repair it myself, but it still won't display properly. Every time I call Lenovo I get a message to "schedule a callback," and every time I go to schedule a callback the web site tells me I'm out of warranty and won't allow me to schedule a callback. Power cycling is the best way I can describe it. Approximately once a day, my y510p will power cycle all of its USB ports simultaneously, this is the two USB 3.0 ports as well as the USB 2.0 port (which makes things even stranger considering they are on separate controllers). I will lose connection to all devices (for me an external hard drive, USB 3.0 dock, and USB 2.0 mouse) and they will all come up again a moment later as just being plugged in. It is not the same time of day each day. My drivers are up to date. This occurred under Windows 8.1 64-bit and Windows 10 64-bit. There is also no correlation to whether there is a lot of data moving through the ports or if they are just idle.

So I have a Lenovo Y510P IdeaPad, I upgraded it to Windows 10 last December and wanted to downgrade it back to Windows 8/8.1 due to some issues that many said are due to the fact that the model doesn't really support Windows 10 thus I experience the problems. However, since it has been more than a month from the upgrade, I can't just roll it back to previous OS and am wondering if there is any way I can find out what my original product key for the pre-activated Windows 8 so I can perform a clean reinstall with it.

If windows came pre-installed on your laptop, the key might be on its certificate of authenticity. Alternatively, you can obtain the key using third party softwares like ProduKey. It'll display the currently activated key on your system.

Found a possible fix (workaraound) of the famous screen flicker problem. I've tried all of the proposed fixes found anywhere on the web and nothing worked for more than 5 minutes. I also sent it to be serviced, came back even worse. The screen would go crazy when showing high contrast images with a lot of black. The flicker was most prominent when testing the pixel-walk(inversion) on this website:http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/inversion.phpIf you have the same problem, try applying pressure on the LCD frame in one of the corners. In my case the flicker went away. I put a piece of fabric between the plastic and the metal LCD frame and after some fiddling I managed to find a sweet spot with no flicker. My laptop is y510p with 755M SLI and FullHD screen.Try at your own risk!Cheers

A:y510p screen flicker FIX!

Ok, I have an update. The flickering can be fixed with a bit of DIY. There's a band cable attaching the display circuit to the metal frame holding the LCD. This band is glued with some sort of conductive glue that goes bad over time, messing up the electronics somehow, I guess preventing the capacitors from discharging properly, dunno.Try and make your own conductive band, I made mine using aluminum tape, it works very well. No flicker noticeable for over a week.Once again, try at your own risk.

Hi all,

Last night, my keyboard suddenly decided it didn't want to work. The following keys rarely work (occasionally after hitting them a gazillion times): 0 (wow it worked just now), p (using on screen keyboard, now 0 is not working so I need onscreen to close these parentheses), colon/semicolon key, and slash/question mark key.

I really hoe this is not a hardware issue as this comuter isnt even 2 years old yet, and having a functioning keyboard is kind of essential. Esecially when some of the affected keys are in your assword... Not sure if the 4 affected keys are connected hysically and thats why theyre acting u together, or if this could have something to do with the fact that the issues arose immediately after some Windows udates.

I would immensely areciate any hel ! Thank you!

Hi Imjustaguy ,

Better to isolate hardware issue from software is to make the computer boot on a rescue media and try typing from it . Using an external USB keyboard and onscreen keyboard further isolate probability of a bad keyboard specially if same thing fails in BIOS (like test typing the affected letter in security password  but NOT to save it , for testing only) .

I have been getting a lot of "pauses" of late. Not hard on "freezes" but more of super long delays, causing me to force shutdown when I get desperate. I'm thinking that the hard drive might be failing, and so looking at getting a new hard drive, and finding someone to replace it. Ether having what can be kept copied onto the new hard drive, or perhaps put onto an external hard drive. I was hoping someone could give me insight/suggestion for this. I purchased the laptop around 3 years ago, and all warranties expired last year. ~~~~~ Lately, I will notice programs will stop responding. When I look at the Task Manager, it will show "Firefox (Not Responding)" for example, I can try and end task, but that has no immediate effect. If I try to open up anything else, it too "pauses" and may take a LONG time to open up. Messing with the task manager too much will cause it too, to stop responding for a long time. Eventually, Firefox will close, and things start behaving as normal. Hello, for professional purposes I plan to upgrade the existing 8gbof available RAM on my laptop to 12gb or 16gb, depending on price range. I know next to zero about RAM consideration for optimal compability/performance. I uploaded two images of the currently installed RAM cards. There are still 2 slots available, could someone point me to recommended/compatible RAM cards? (If I can order it from amazon, the better). Thank you for the support.?

Hey, I bought Lenovo y510p laptop like 2 weeks ago. It is the SLI version of the y510p. The laptop worked just fine when I was playing with it, ran CSGO and Skyrim on Ultra settings over 60 fps. Couple days ago, my friend broke my charger, and I went to Walmart to buy a new one. I bought the Duracell charger which is 90 watts and it was compatible with my laptop. Then I plugged it in, and tried to play csgo but the fps was like from 5 to 15. I have no idea how this happened. I also took off my battery and just tried to play it without it and just charging the laptop, and when I opened csgo the laptop shut down. I already made virus tests and there was nothing in the viruses. Please help me if you can, I really wouldn't want to send this to the warranty since it's brand new and propably gonna take atleast a month. Thank you already!

My guess is that the Charger may not be compatible with that laptop....90watts yes but has it got the correct DC output.

Also you didn't say how your original charger got broken. like was it attached to the laptop at the time?

What could be happening is..when you plug the new power supply in it is not the correct power your PC expects so it disregards it and runs off the battery at lower everything. As when you take the battery out it will not run at all. Easy place for damage is where the power plug goes into the laptop.

I bought one of the first Lenovo IdeaPad y510p. Having a dual gpu made for a lot of gaming fun. Yesterday, the room filled up with the smell of an electrical burn. I checked the underside the Lenovo. It had been hotter. I heard workers outside my window and figured that the smell may come from them. A few minutes later very thick smoke came out of the left air vent and made a column in the air. I quickly pulled out the power cord and battery. Luckily, the house is still standing. I understand that electronics eventually fail. Yet, this seems unsafe and dangerous. What if I weren't in the room to act quickly? There should be some way to report this. The support page to send a message has been down with an under maintenance message for days.

I have the same battery and charger that came with the computer. I've tried messing with the settings and taking the battery out and putting it back in. I've been to the BIOs screen and looked around. I've searched through forms and everything. I'm about to just buy a new battery for it and see if that fixes it. But I'd like to know what happened so I can prevent it from happening again. Did the battery just get too old and decide to die on me? It's been very frustrating.

Hello there, I have had my IdeaPad Y510p Laptop - 59369999 for 2 years without any problems, until today.  I started watching a video & everything froze for a good 5 minutes.  I held the power button until my laptop shut down, when I turned it on it said "scanning and repairing drive c". It started up normally, I gave it time, moved the mouse once everything had loaded & it froze again. Then the screen went blank with the cursor working, then the cursor dissappeared. Does anyone know of this is a simple fix? Thank you!

A:Y510P Freezing After Start Up

My guess is that the hard drive is dying.  If it will start, try getting a copy of CrystalDiskInfo (free),  Otherwise, see if you can hook up the drive to another machine to test it and to get as much as you can off of it.

Hey, I know there are already a few topics with the same subject, however none have the exact same situation as mine as most are US based. I too have a powerful Lenovo Y510P SLI with a Intel Centrino N2230 wifi card. I am buying a new router for my student room and since I want to buy things that can last for a few years, opted for a wifi AC router (probably an Asus one). But, this laptop won't support it... I looked in the technical maintaince manual to find which wifi cards are supported for the Y510P, there is one Wifi AC card for the Y410P, but according to various posts will also work in the Y510P as they share the same BIOS whitelist. I don't want to flash the BIOS with a custom modded one which removes the whitelist. (I flashed a desktop Asus motherboard to run OSX, went great, runs well, but I can't experiment with this laptop, need it for university.). So I Googled and Ebayed the partnumer and this one came up: Ebay Link, which says "Only for Lenovo/IBM laptops such as Y510P" should be fine right? Only thing is it is 40 USD, Dutch customs will charge 21% on top of it so that makes 48 USD, and the Dutch postal office will charge anywhere between 15-20 USD for paperwork for importing goods. So that makes an total of 68 USD... so that almost doubles the cost of the upgrade...  I used the FRU number for this card: WLAN, WiFi AC+BT4.0, Ltn BCM4352+20702 2x2AC+BT4.0 HMC which is 20200381, and put in the search engine in the "part number" ... It plays CDs just fine and it burns DVDs as storage device, though it **may** only be burning them as a CD, haven't really tested it. I would like to get an updated driver from lenovo, but I can't get past the Q&A session, it either doesn't know my laptop or thinks I'm running win 8.1 or 7. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

Some day I was using my laptop and then left it on for a while because I have to do something else (I left it for about two hours). When I came back the laptop was dead (at least I thought that because it was not charging the battery nor starting up with the charger plugged in). A couple of days after that I tested the laptop again, plugged in the charger and it was charging again the battery. I could start the system fine. After a reboot the system was not charging again, but the battery had some charge so I could start the laptop again. In summary, there's not problem with the battery (there is power going from the battery to the motherboard), there is no power going from the charger to the battery (sometimes it does, sometimes don't, but the most times don't). With the battery unplugged and the charger plugged in there is no power going to the motherboard. battery and no charger -> ok, power to the motherboardbattery + charger -> sometimes works, but almost neverno battery, only charger -> does not work Power jack tested and it's ok. Charger tested and it's ok. Also trackpad stopped working, windows does not recognize it. Thanks for your help and sorry for the long post.

Hi Guys, I have Lenovo Y510P with Windows 10 and i recently installed a new MyDigitalSSD 256GB in the M.2 slot (instead of the 24GB cache ssd) and i'm using the ssd as my main drive for OS and programs. I'm getting reandom freezes during regular operation, I can still move my mouse duriing those freezes but that's it, it won't unfreeze unless I do an hard reset.. Those freezes happen only when the OS is running from the SSD, when I'm I run a copy of that OS from the HDD, it doesn' happen ad everything works. Before installing the ssd, every cache software was uninstalled and i even tried a fresh new clean win10 install on the ssd but the freezes still happens. I read and tried LOTS of solutions (checking for errors in the ssd, disabling SLI, disabling LPM, etc.) but nothing helps. I'm really desperate for a solution, Doesn any one has an idea on what is the problem?

what i understood is that slot you got there isnt meant for a big SSD :/ so thats probably why os freezes some times it's a cache slot meant for small sized ssd cache drives if understood it right.

I have the y510p with the GT 750M SLI. My charger died on me, and I tried to order one via Amazon provided by a forum thread here a while ago, to only receive an adapter with a 45N0112 modeL number when my adapter is 45N0111.  Tried to to purchase it off Lenovo the other day to which I get an email that the product is "end of life" and now they've taken down the listing. So do tell me Lenovo... How am I to use my laptop without the 170w charger that you provide? No universal charger has that wattage. How the heck could you just shelf something like a charger after its only been about 3 years? I mean I thought your company was fantastic but what the heck man. Do enlighten me as to a guaranteed place to get a 45N0111 charger!!! I haven't been able to use my laptop for a week! Why? BECAUSE I CANT BUY A CHARGER. THANKS.

Hi folks I'm new to the forums to please excuse me. I'm currently posting from my phone so when my laptop comes on I'll attach the debug file.

Basically I set my laptop to sleep instead of shutting it down and when I went back to resume my work (about 20 hours later) it was running very slow.

I was searching for my 'Calculator' but made a typo so I tried backspacing the letter but nothing happened. Chrome (which I had opened at the time) was unresponsive and so was my taskbar.

I waited a while to see if anything would happen but nothing did so I forced shut down.

I left it off for almost a half hour and when I put it on I got that error 'Unmountable_Boot_Volume' and it needed to restart and so it did but then the error came up again this time it did an automatic repair which lasted a few seconds then it was diagnosing which lasted a few seconds and then I got the following message:

Automatic Repair
Your PC did not start correctly.
Press restart to restart your PC which might sometimes fix the problem. You can also press Advance options to try other options to repair your PC.

I clicked restart and it did.. I got a black screen for a minute or two but I got to log in. But once again everything was moving slow so as the start menu seemed to be working I shut down the laptop. (It's currently off)

Can anyone assist me with this problem?
It would be really good if I can actually find out what's really wrong with my laptop.
Thanks.

Hello, bear with me because it is quite a long confusing story. I have recently send the y510p away to get the screen repaired. Because I needed something to work with meanwhile I took the SSD from y510p and put this in an older laptop with a clean install of windows10. In the y510p I put an old HDD with Elementary OS installed on it. Today I received the y510p and turned it on, the screen worked perfectly and I could use the Elementary OS installed on the HDD. I then took the HDD out again and put the SSD in, I was planning to do a clean install on it again but it still had windows 10 installed from the older laptop.I put everything back together and powerd it on, the screen lights up but remains black.I hooked up an external monitor through vga and saw that the windows 10 had booted from the older laptop. When I try to get in the bios (I think it's F2) both monitors remain black. I have the feeling it goes to the bios, but cant display it on the monitor? (I cant find a way to display the bios on the external monitor.)Could it be that the motherboard doesnt recognize the new screen? At the moment the only way to get any visual on the main monitor is to boot Elementary OS from the old HDD. Please help for I have no other ideas. JTADDED: I can currently use the SSD with w10 on the y510p through the external monitor. But I would like to do a clean install and ofcourse use the main monitor aswell(The main monitor does not appear i... Read more

Hey everybody, I'm writing this for a friend who I've been trying to help with this issue for a while now.He owns a Y510P and is currently running Windows 10 64 Bit on it.His laptop is mostly running fine, he can play certain games including WoW and LoL without an issue. Others, like Path of Exile won't crash completely, but sometimes the graphics driver will crash and recover, blacking out his graphics for a second or so but then resuming. Other games, like Deus Ex: HR, Overwatch, Vermintide or Helldivers seem to randomly crash in a matter of minutes. Either the game crashes back to desktop without a specific error message or the laptop locks up completely and he needs to restart. This seems to be somewhat related to the load on the system, as he can safely sit in the (already rendered) lobbies of Vermintide and Helldivers or play the practice range in Overwatch which doesn't have other player characters. Once in an actual game, the crashes quickly start happening. I quickly found people suggesting this might be an issue with the power-saving feature when the drivers mistakenly switch back to the integrated card for just a moment, which seems to be causing trouble for other people. But disabling the integrated card via BIOS can't be done without a third-party unlocked BIOS which I won't risk him flash on his laptop and possibly brick it. Other suggestions like forcing the game to use the nVidia card didn't work, either, cause those options were either not... I have the lenovo y510p (59370015). It has a disk drive in the Ultrabay. Does this mean that there is no Nvidia graphics card in the laptop? If this is the case, then why are there a bunch of Nvidia files on it? If this is not the case then how do I get the card working, I see it with a Error Code 43 in device manager.

I just want to comment on this - because I'm having the same issue.  I've used the laptop for a number of months without crashing issues, and it seems to have cropped up pretty recently.

I think it might have something to do with the driver version?  It also only seems to happen with certain games.  In particular, War Thunder and GTA4.  I play Dota 2 quite a bit and don't seem to have any problems at all.

After that the message pops out saying "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered". I have latest Nvidia drivers (v344.11). I'm running Windows 8.1 x64. The problem occured with any version of display drivers I've installed so far.

Hate, because has no HD light, I have this left speaker known problem and the USB are in front, messing with typing and having mouse cables or other cables in the middle of the wrist. Love about 2 SLI GPUs, HATE about the low performance battery, even on ECO mode. Love to the possibility to install 32Gb memory, HATE because the screen is not high end as the rest of the hardware profile. Good, I vented enough. thanks.

Hi,  Just before im losing my mind i turn to you guys for help! A back story about the recent events that got me to the problem:My Lenovo Y510P crashed (couldnt boot to windows) a month ago and  needed an HDD replacment according to the tech lab (he is still under warranty). They replaced the HDD and installed  the Windows 8 (i had 10 before the crash) from the hidden parttition, when i got my laptop back, i updated to Windows 10 but it crashed on boot screen (just like it did before the HDD got replaced).I sent it back to the lab, this time they just restored it to Windows 8.I tried to update it to 10 and it got stuck on boot again. My laptop went back and forth 3 times like this until they just sent me the laptop with Windows 10 on it. They deleted my hidden parttition and my SSD (24GB) with the laptop backup data so now i cant restore or format and i dont have any drivers or configurations on the Windows 10.  So heres the problem- It works a lot slower then it used to! it also take 3 times more to boot!i tried to get all the drivers and searched for BIOS configurations and i found that im missing a progrem called ExpressCache.I downloaded it but i don't think it made a diffrence. Is ExpressCache my solution? Maybe i need to configure it?Here is a screenshot with some details of my ExpressCacheHelp me please! i can send it to the lab again but they will just format it...Thanks!  ?

I received a few minor electrical burns while typing today.  It turns out that the shield of my cell phone charger USB cable was making intermittent contact with my forearm and shocking me.  Not enough  to do actual harm, but it certainly doesn't feel good. After a bit of experimentation I found the following:1) Touching the USB cable results in a shock only if my wrist is in the typing position on my y510p.2) Either the laptop's power cable or its external monitor HDMI cable have to be plugged in to receive the shock.  Disconnecting both renders the device safe.3) This happens with 3 different cell phone chargers that I tested with.4) I don't need to be touching any keyboard keys.  I do need to have my wrist firmly against the laptop. Additionally, my external monitor has been flaky for a few months - it will flash off for a few seconds several times a day. What should I do next?

Hello, I'm new to Lenovo and I'm about to buy one of the Y510P (59373392) with single graphics and the 1TB version. The last question I've got is whether it is possible to install an additional SSD via the DVD slot-in. I don't need the DVD drive, so it would be wonderful to install a 128GB or 256GB SSD. I've read some topics and saw that the motherboard doesn't have a mSATA connection but it must have a NGFF connection if I'm right. Since I'm not very experienced with laptops, here are a few more questions 1) If it is possible to install an additional SSD, what products are available?2) Where do I get the UltraBay adapter?3) Would it then be possible to make the SSD the bootable drive? Thanks in advance!

A:Y510P 59373392: SSD upgrade via UltraBay?

hi thewavelength,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

You can use a caddy for this.

But the SSD you can use here is a 2.5 SSD not the msata one.
  this kind :

ODD can be set as primary boot and should be able to boot windows from it.
BIOS has to be set to legacy.

Hope this helps,
Cheers!

Hello! I'm using my Y510P with an external display and thinking about buying another one, so here's my question - how many displays are supported by the GPUs? According to the ark.intel.com, my CPU supports up to 3. Is it including the laptop's screen? I'm planning to use ONLY two externals. Specs:i7-4700MQ755M SLI16 GB RAMWin10 x64Benq GW2270
