Hi i want to reinstall windows 10 clean install. But i dont know how to do this. I want to boot from usb and i have to do something in bios dut i dont know how. Can you help me?
Hi: You should be able to boot from the USB installation drive by plugging it to one of the PC's USB2 ports. If that doesn't work either, then you may have to go into the BIOS and enable legacy mode. See this guide for how to do that. http://www.support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03736054/1 more replies

I have a HP envy x2 which has no uefi partition and at the moment it seems that it's impossible to reinstall this computer. I have tried external dvd-rom and bootable usb, but they aren't recognized when I turn on the computer. At the moment the computers has no OS.
On hp forums I read that you must turn on legacy boot in order to be able to boot from cd-rom, but there is no such option, there isn't even a boot priority option, only uefi boot priority which is greyed out at the moment, probably due to absence of uefi partition.
I have never seen such basic bios with so few options, I couldn't believe that there is no boot priority options available, which seems the most basic of options...
Is there anything that could be done in this situation?
Title says it all. My computer is very sick and I've received an error message today saying windows must be reinstalled, insert the reinstallation dvd. I don't have that disk anymore though I do still have the product key.
What should I do?
You may need to buy a new one. Do you have a recovery partition on your hard drive?
That is a very strange message, though. Are you sure you're not infected? Where and when did you see such a message?
I was recently given 2 AIO computers from a local charity group to try and repair that both have the same problem. They seem to start but the screen remains black on both no cursor or anything. I will list what I have done and this will be on both of them.Replaced ram with known good ones.Removed the CMOS battery for 15 minCleared BIOS with jumper (battery in)Tried tapping F10 for 8 seconds then arrow down twice and hit Enter twice.A hard reset unplugged and held in power button for a couple minutes I see an HDMI port on both but I believe this is an input port?? The right hinge on my Envy 17 Touch Screen has failed, causing the case to become separated and the lid to be nearly impossible to close. This is the second Envy 17 to fail in this way. About a year ago my husband's broke and HP spent nearly three months attempting to repair it before finally just shipping him a new one. This appears to be a flaw in the construction of the hinge assembly, and we have noticed that the newer models, such as my husband's replacement, have a much improved design in comparison. We spent about $1,300 on this computer (it has an i7 Core and 16 GB of RAM) and hoped it would hold up for a while. The laptop was great, but now it has become difficult to use without fear of causing further damage. Thank you for any suggestions.More replies
Im planning to buy a HP Envy 13 to use for school, since this notebook is lightweight and thin and the battery life (from what I've read) is decent. I've noticed that there are 2 HP ENVYs available, both with the same specs, both with the same price ( ENVY 13-d120nd and ENVY 13-d010nd). I wondered what the differences are between them. So I hoped you guys from the forum could help me with this. And if any of you got any suggestions for other HP notebooks in the same priceclass with a good (maybe better) battery life to use for school, feel free to suggest Thanks in advance!More replies

Recently noticed the notebook wasn't aligned to my desk. Thought the feet on the bottom were uneven. They're fine. The notebook seems to have a "bubble" on the keyboard where it's higher than the rest of the keyboard. Obviously it's impacting the entire notebook since it's no longer sitting level. I'm concerned it's going to impact the performance of the keyboard and the fact that it's not even and "rocks" when I'm typing is driving me crazy. Can someone please direct me on how this can be repaired. It was purchased new in 2013.More replies

The HP Envy 17t (2015 model) is no longer for sale at the HP Store so I am thinking of purchasing the HP Envy M7 n109dx from Best buy but I am noticing that there are some differences between that model and the one that originally was selling in the HP Store. I have noticed the following about the Envy M7 vs the Envy 17t Weaker Processor- The Envy 17t had a Quad Core i7 6700 HQ vs the Dual Core i7 6500U on the M7Weaker Graphics Card- The Envy 17t touch had a Nvidia GeForce 950 GTX vs a 940 GT on the M7No fingerprint reader on the M7 like on the Envy 17Some websites mention that the M7 only has dual speakers and not quad speakers and a subwoofer like the 17t. Is there other features that the M7 is missing in comparison to the Envy 17t Touch? I really like HP Envy and I really hate Windows 10. I am trying to find a HP Envy 17 model that either comes with 8.1 (Pro) , ideal for me, or 10.0 and can be 'downgraded' to 8.1 (Pro). I previously purchased a top range Envy with Windows 10, but it was a nightmare trying to move to 8.1, I gave up in the end. Price is a (sensibly!) secondary consideration. So, I recently switched from windows 10 to windows 7 and I had some driver issues that were solved shortly after. So far windows 7 is amazing but today I bought a brand new gaming headset and it doesn't work. I can hear out of them but I cannot use the microphone. I installed the driver that came with the headset but the microphone still doesn't work. Is there a certain driver I need for my mic to work on windows 7? Any help would be greatly appeciated

sunbloom Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums! The USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 are different specifications, such that not only is USB 3.0 a lot faster, it also supports devices that draw a lot more power than USB 2.0 devices -- which is why you got that warning. With something like a USB stick, this is generally NOT a problem as they don't draw much power, but with things like portable hard drives, that can be a serious problem. Since your scanner is likely powered by AC current (meaning, it plugs into a wall outlet), then it is not drawing power from the USB cable and should work fine -- just slower than it would connected to a USB 3.0 jack.Good Luck1 more replies

Looks like a similar problem has been discussed for HP Pavillion, but I want to start this thread for users like me who have an HP Envy, who upgraded to Windows 10, but now it will not wake up from sleep, either when I close the lid, when it is left on too long, or when powered down in sleep mode. I have to power it down (holding the power button for 10 seconds), then restarting. I am not the geekiest person, so the suggestion in the Pavillion thread to "Revert to Windows 8.1" is meaningless because I need more specific instructions on how to do this. Is there a patch planned for this, either from HP or Microsoft?

Hi, I'm having trouble with Windows Hello. When I first purchased my notebook, Windows Hello was working fine, I had set it up correctly and had been using it successfully for a couple of weeks. Now, it's suddenly not working, and when I try to configure it in settings, there's an error that it cannot find the camera. So I just purchased this computer a few days ago and it's on it's way. I knew it came with Windows 8, but I just thought I'd do a fresh install of 7 upon receiving it for obvious reasons - that is until I noticed that Windows 8 was the only operating system they provide drivers for. I was wondering if it was still possible to install them on 7, or even run this computer on 7 at all. Thanks in advance!
Win7 is driver-complete in the installer and quickly updated by running all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates with reboots, after enabling Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware (Step 3).
Put your wireless driver in your backup so you can get online quickly to do the updates. After all of them are done there likely will only be a couple of missing drivers. Win7 can use Win8 drivers.
I'd suggest after turning off Secure Boot you shrink C to create a Logical partition to test install Win7 on so you can decide between the two.
More here on turning off Secure Boot: Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7
Then Win7 must be installed in UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums from DVD or using a UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows
The Integrated Intel Graphics HD5500 reports as blu-ray compatible, (it is not possible to switch to the Nvidia 940M on this machine). But the Windows 10 Intel HD5500 driver reports as being not compatible ???(Using the latest driver off HP's download site).
SDF15, Thanks for the suggestion, but I have made some progress today. If I select the Integrated Graphics driver, Cyberlink's Blu-Ray advisor runs using the Nvidia 940M driver and the driver reports as supporting Blu-Ray. I had previously tried running this test selecting the High Performance NVIDIA Processor and the driver reports as not supported, which is an odd result. Ihe Cyberlink Blu-Ray compliance test only works if the Integrated Graphics driver option is selected. I had also previously tried this test using the Intel HD5500 driver and the driver also failed the Blu-Ray compliance test. Even though the graphics card reports as Blu-Ray compliant. Using the the Integrated Graphics driver All the key critera now give a pass (I am running with an external USB3 Blu-Ray drive as this machine is fitted with a DVDRW). Even though all the criteria now pass, PowerDVD 15 is giving the classic 80040111 error which is usually reported if the machine is not HDCP compliant. I will be contacting Cyberlink to find out why the HP Envy 17-n009a is unable to play blu-ray even though it passes all the Blu-Ray advisor criteria. Thanks for your suggestion. By the way, the Windows 10 Nvidia 940M driver on HP's site for this laptop gives corrupt file error when extracting. I raised a case with HP about this.5 more replies

It is my experience that HP does not read this or care to support their customers unless you are willing to pay for supportor purchase a new computer. I had Windows 10 running on my Envy X2 g0001en since it was released. I managed it without HP support. However with the latestest release the sound stopped working. If I got it working and tried to use Cortana to search the sound would stop working. The original Envy X2 is a conputer that was sold under false pretenseces because there were things like the Pen they said it worked with that never appeared. HP should offer a full credit to any Envy X2 11 purchaser toward a new laptop. Sadly they won't and even more sadly I will never purchase another HP product. Any trust I had with them is gone. I have put mine back to Windows 8.1 and will wait and purchase something after 2025 when 8.1 is no longer supported.More replies
OK please bear with me as I am slowly going insane. My niece owns this HP Envy M6 laptop that will not boot the installed Windows 8 or could even be 8.1. I have tried Legacy and the UEFI to no avail. I can get to a command prompt booting off a USB recovery I made with Rufus. I have tried BOOTREC with /FIXBOOT (says OK) /FIXMBR (says OK) /REBUILDBCD but it gives an error. I've followed lots of threads and typed all kinds of things til my fingers are raw. Some of them say can't find, some say drive is locked, unlock which I can't find how to do. I can run Windows 8 that is a WinUSB and Windows 10 they same way. Some of the instructions just go off into the wilderness. What I need is not only a list of what to do but what is it doing. BCDEDIT gives me nonsense. It's hard to know if what you are doing will work if you don't know what it's doing or what you should see. None of those that say SOLVED solves anything for me. I've even tried those "click here to fix" which I can't install because I can't get Windows to boot!
Do I just tell my niece it's a lost cause then go get drunk? If this is what the "new" Windows 8 is like then is the "newer" Windows 10 going to be a complete fiasco? <<whimper whimper!!>>

HP has not tested your PC model for upgrade to Windows 10.If your Windows 7 or 8 PC was manufactured before August 2013 or is running Windows XP or Windows Vista, HP cannot confirm it can be upgraded to Windows 10.First, ensure you are running the latest version of either Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1 Update. I updated to Windows 10 about a year ago and the USB 3.0 ports on the left side stopped working. I need these to operate USB 3.0 devices, so I'm finally trying to figure out the cause. No drivers are posted on the HP website, and no solution can be found. The best I can determine is that these Renesas USB 3.0 are no longer supported. I get power as I can charge devices, so I know that the hardware is OK. Any help?
I had a similar problem when I tried to use a USB 3.0 Hard Drive Dock. It would power on, but was not recognized at all by the computer. The solution is to uninstall the Root Hub from the port. Go into the control panel and open Device Manager. Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers tab at the bottom. Find the Root Hub labelled (xHCI), as that is the 3.0 port. Make sure that nothing is plugged into that port, right click the (xHCI) Root Hub and click Uninstall. Restart the computer, plug your device into the 3.0 port, and the computer will automatically reinstall the latest driver to the port, and you should be golden.2 more replies

Hello, I bought this new computer little over two years ago and now I'm told that the motherboard and power supply have crapped out on me. You would think a motherboard should last longer than this, but I digress... I'd like to replace the motherboard so that I can salvage the rest of the computer. Is there any way to transfer my windows license from the old motherboard to the new one? Or will I have to buy another license? Thanks
Greetings, Hopefully you backed up the important stuff on multiple external media and in the cloud before this happened. Did the power supply failure fry the HDD/SSD or any other components? You can contact HP for service here. HP would have to replace the motherboard and tattoo the MB. This would allow you to use HP Recovery Media to set the system back to factory condition. You would not need a new Windows product key. Did you make or purchase HP Recovery discs prior to this catastrophic event? It appears your PC shipped with Win 8.0. You can order Recovery Media here. HP will reinstall Win 8.0 if you have them replace faulty components and tie the HP factory replacement motherboard to the system chassis number (tattoo). If you replace the motherboard on your own you will have to purchase a new Windows product key. Cheers7 more replies

HP has not tested your PC model for upgrade to Windows 10. If your PC was manufactured before August 2013 and is running Windows XP or Windows Vista, HP cannot confirm Windows 10 compatibility. Introduction date11-Jun-2013 Does that mean HP will not be providing drivers for it? That would be pretty crappy as the PC was purchased brand new in October 2013. It was ordered custom built by HP at the time. PC came with Windows 8.
Hello @FattysGoneWild?, I understand that your desktop computer indicates that it has not been tested by HP to upgrade to WIndows 10, and I would be happy to assist you! According to the available list of supported drivers for your desktop computer, there is currently no Windows 10 software or hardware drivers released at the moment. In the meantime, I recommend following the steps in this document on HP Products - Where do I find Windows 10 drivers and software for my model? I hope this helps! Best Regards4 more replies
Hi all, I am new, and I have a question about this. Could I install Windows 7 software onto my Envy 700 HP8? If so, how? Would it be a good idea to back up my W8 on a 8GB storage or a few DvDS?

Hi, I'd like to install windows 7 on the laptop. I have tried but, it seems that it is blocked or not allowed, since windows 7 displays an error because of the configuration of the hardware. Can it be done? or can I request recovery disks with windows 7 instead of windows 8?
Hi: I can't find any info offhand. In any event, no one has detailed how they got W7 to install, they just ask for W7 drivers. See if this article from MS is of any help to you. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2466753 I had the problem when I first installed the W8 Release Preview and wanted to go back to Windows 7 on my HP 8200 Elite desktop. What I ended up doing was booting from a Windows XP installation disk, delete the partition, quick format the partition and loaded Windows XP. Then I loaded W7 with no problems at all. In order to install XP on your PC, however, you need to know what SATA AHCI or RAID driver needs to be installed at the F6 prompt or by slipstreaming the drivers. I don't know if the BIOS in your PC has the drive controller set to RAID or AHCI. In the device manager, under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section, if the BIOS is set to AHCI, you will see an Intel series 7 family chipset AHCI controller installed. If it is set to RAID, then you will see a Storage Controllers lisitng in the device manager and you will see an Intel SATA RAID controller listed there.10 more replies
I just received my HP ENVY X360 (T5K88AV). I ordered it with the HP Truevision IR HD camera, which according to the HP website, supports Windows Hello. However, I see no option under Settings > Accounts > Sign-In for it. I spent an hour with HP Support Chat and let him remote in to take a look. He said it looked like no IR camera was installed. We tried installing the driver for it with no success. Is there something I am missing? Is the HP IR camera known to work with Hello? Or is there something wrong with my hardware or drivers?

Greetings, Is your product an HP Envy 700-210xt? Could not locate a 700-200xt system. I can't solve the sleep issue. I can tell you I have an Envy 810-150se that shipped with Win 8.1 and also has a Pegatron motherboard, not the same product as your system, but similar, if your system is a 700-210xt. I could never get the PC to sleep using Win 10. I ran energy reports on Win 10 with no conclusive results. Could never isolate the offending process or device driver causing the problem. The 810 sleeps as expected on Win 8.1 and Win 7 Pro. I suspect it is a Microsoft supplied driver problem. HP will not support Win 10 on this system and Microsoft will deflect. I gave up and switched to Win 7. Oh, you could try troubleshooting steps found here. They did not help. Cheers!3 more replies
Hello, hope someone can help. I recently purchased a hp envy 15 with windows 8.1. I purchased office 2013 and when i opened microsoft one note i was asked for my microsoft account info. I created one, entered the information, walked away from my laptop for a bit. When i came back it was locked and my microsoft account is now my login for the computer. I do not know my password and have been unable to get it from microsoft live. What can i do to log in this is extremely frustrating that i am locked out. Thanks
Should be an option to "switch" accounts. Not having an HP Envy 15 I'm not sure on how to tell you to get there. I would try pressing the Windows Key + L key to lock the computer, and when you press a key to gain access, there should be an option to switch user accounts or an arrow ping back...which may or may not take you to a screen that will let you use another account to unlock the computer. Good luck.9 more replies

Hi, After a couple days of buying my HP Envy (Windows 10) I started to constantly receive alerts that say my recovery drive is almost full. I am not sure what is causing this since it's brand new, and I have not been saving anything to my recovery drive (recycle bin is also empty). I am wondering how to: a) Delete what has been filling up my recovery drive. I am not even sure what the contents are. b) Prevent my recovery drive from filling up so quickly again Thanks in advance,R
rm18 If your Recovery drive is showing as having a drive letter, that could be the source of the problem as there may be a default download setting (like in a Browser you are using) that is writing its temp files to that drive, instead of to the OS drive. You need to go into Disk Management to look at the volumes to see if the Recovery volume has a drive letter. You can get there the following wauys:1) Right click the start button and select Disk Management.2) In the search box type Event Viewer.3) Hold the windows key down (the one with the flag on it) and press R. In the Run Box type Services.msc. IF you see the Recovery volume has a drive letter, then do the following:1) Right-click the volume and select Change drive letter and paths2) Highlight the drive letter and click Remove3) Close Disk Management Since that volume no longer has a drive letter, windows apps can not write to it anymore. But you still need to open your browsers and see where they are writing the download files -- and change that to your OS volume. Good Luck9 more replies

I am NOT a techy, and need some help. I've called HP spent countless hours on the phone with tech support which resulted in only frustration. I purchased an HP Envy M6 17.5" laptop a few months ago - Intel i7 processor; Windows 10 (64-bit), along with an HP Office Jet Pro 8610 all in one printer. I have been having problems with the lap top losing wirless internet connection - and it's getting worse. At first it was an occassional problem. Now, it's several times an hour. I don't think the problem is my router or connection, because other wireless devices in the home all work fine, even during the times my lap top says it has lost the wireless connection. Sometimes I also lose the the connection from the lap top to the wireless printer before I lose the internet connection; and occassionally I have an internet connection on the laptop but lose the printer connection - when this happens though, the printer shows that it has a wireless connection to the device. So, my non-techy deductive reasoning is making me think this has to be an issue with the laptop??? I can't seem to get help from HP tech support - can anyone offer any other help/suggestions? There's the info on my laptop. I am new to this forum and usually don't post in forums as I don't like to bother people to much and most of the time a simple google search will find the answers people are looking for due to other people having the same problems, but this one I am at a loss on.

Now, I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro, and the backlight doesn't automatically come on anymore. I checked the proximity sensor settings, made sure that was active (and also made sure I had the latest windows 8 driver for the proximity sensor). Now if I want to have the keys come on, I have to fumble around using the Fn k... Read more

In purchased a HP ENVY Notebook - m7-n109dx (Touch) (ENERGY STAR) with Windoes 10 preinstalled as a desktop replacement. I know I am dating myself however, my experiance with computers dates back to the days of DOS, followed by Windows 3.0 and all the subsequent versions. I have given Windows 10 a try but frankly at 65 years old I don't want to go through the pain of learning another operating system and all the settings that don't resemble anything I have used in the past. I am not interested in tablets, 2 in 1 notebooks or Microsoft Xbox or a cross platform operating system so I am looking to downgrade to Windows 8.1. For some reason, Windows fast startup has only worked for about two weeks on this laptop. It no longer works and booting can take upt to five minutes some times, but usually 3-4 minutes. When it worked, I was stunned at how fast the laptop booted from a shut down, perhaps no more than 30 seconds. By shutdown, I mean right click the start menu, selecting shut down or sign out and then shutdown. I have always shut my PC down this way, and never have I used sleep or hibernate (althoug the system is set to sleep when the lid is cloed and shut down when power button is pressed). Now boot takes several minutes going through the blue hp logo screen and then a green screen with a spinner and finally the desktop with a slow load of all of the tray icons one by one. I have cleared the prefetch, disabled rebooted and enabled fast startup from the power menu, enabled and disabled hibernation from the power menu and done a power troubleshooter (which found issues that did not exist, but that's another matter). There is an enormous hiberfil, sys present on my system having been modified today. I have done a clean boot and spent hours enabling the add ons one by one and nothing seems to make a difference (and, of course, it takes forever since every boot is a cold boot it seems). What could be wrong with this laptop and how can I get it to resume fast starting?More replies
Hi there, So this computer recently started ticking me off when it would start in the middle of the night for about 2 weeks straight trying to install some kind of IDT audio driver that kept failing to install. Wouldn't cancel or anything so I just kept letting it go. I woke up at about 4 am to my bright monitor screen all over my bedroom wall, and got super angry and shut it off while it was updating. After this, everytime I boot my computer, it just goes straight to a blue screen with the stopcode: CRITIAL PROCESS FAILED. It then restarts, and then tries to Automatic Repair. This doesn't work either, and it sends me to a troubleshooting screen. I cannot even reset my hard drive, install a new version of windows through a hard drive or disc, and even BIOS will not work. I am completely out of options here and would appreciate a quick response as I use this computer very frequently.More replies
A colleague of mine got an HP ENVY ultrabook with W8 pre-installed plus a retail W8 pro upgrade for an extra 22 EUR.
He asked my to see if I could upgrade the machine to W8 Pro and install the IS display language pack for him.
The system has one of those wretched UEFI Boot thingy's in the BIOS.
I haven't been able to upgrade the installed windows 8 to Windows PRO -- and even trying to install from scratch via booting from an external USB DVD drive it just says after about 15 mins through the process "Windows 8 cannot be installed".
Fortunately the version of ACRONIS I use works with UEFI boot so I managed to take a backup before I started and was able to restore the original image that it had when it came out of the store -- I'd wiped the HDD when trying to install the Retail W8 Pro version- but the restore worked fine so the machine is in exactly the same state as it was when it came out of the store.
However I still would like to upgrade the machine to W8 Pro - mainly in order to change the display language from En to Is and to allow remote desktop connection to THIS computer.
You need at least W8 Pro for RDP to work correctly --you can RDP to OTHER machines using any version of W8 - but you need at least W8 PRO to allow incoming RDP connections.
Any help on upgrading a UEFI BIOS enabled machine to W8 Pro. The W8 PRO is the RETAIL version -- and the Windows version is X-64 English.

Hi: Did you go into the BIOS, disable secure boot and enable legacy mode? Does your model have a USB 2 port? If so plug the flash drive in the USB 2 port. Did you test your W7 installation media on another PC to make sure it works? Normally that error means you have defective or incomplete installation media. If you can answer yes to all of the above questions, then try this... This is if your notebook has an Intel generation 4 core processor... Download the drivers from this link below (first or second file listed -- 32 or 64 bit as applicable). https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=24293&lang=eng&ProdId=2101 Extract (copy) the files onto a usb flash drive without any folders.
