on-screen keyboard not working in tablet mode

Q: on-screen keyboard not working in tablet mode

Got an inspiron 13 7000 yesterday and trying to use for first time. When switching to tablet mode, the virtural/on-screen keyboard cannot be selected for use. It is available in laptop mode (when I don't need it because of the large keyboard in front of me), but not table.

So, I called tech support and was told it was outside of regular tech and they'd transfer me to software tech. They said there is normally a fee for this support, but since the computer is brand new, there would be not charge. Software tech refused to help me unless I paid and they transferred me back to hardware tech who put me on hold, then hung up on me.

Wow, nice support on a brand new product! They want me to pay to get their defective product to work? I guess it would be cheaper for them to pay for a return shipping label, give me a full refund and sell this as a refurb at half of what they sold it to me for then for them to actually spend a few minutes on the phone trying to help.

Before I return this and buy another brand, does anyone know how to get the on-screen keyboard to work on tablet mode?

When I am in tablet mode there should be an on screen keyboard that pops up when I click to type somewhere. I found something online about going to settings and then under "typing" click to automatically have it popped up. But on my computer under settings and typing it doesn't show that option. HELP. I know how to manually make it come up but at the store there was a little keyboard button and it would pop up.

HiI bought this for my daughter this Christmas and after registering using the keyboard it suddenly stopped working and I could only use the touch screen keyboard. Then for no reason at all the pc display went in to tablet mode and won't come out of it.I have tried a total reset and everything I described above happens again. I have downloaded all the drivers etc again and rebooted and the outcome is still the same. Have wondered if throwing it against a wall would help, but realised that would only help me and not the laptop.Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you resolve it?Thanks

Hi @kippa22?, Welcome to the HP Forums!  It is a terrific place to find answers and tips! For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide:Learn How to Post and More. I understand that you purchased the Pavilion x360 as a Christmas present for your daughter.  After setting it up, and registering on the HP website the keyboard stopped responding. You could only use the on screen keyboard.  Suddenly the display went into tablet mode and  you could not change the mode back.  You have tried a total reset and installed any driver updates, but the issue remains. Have you ran the HP Support Assistant?  Have you ran the Windows troubleshooter? Would you check this setting. Click the Windows button (lower left corner)Clcik on  settingsClick on  system to  open it.In the left pane of the screen, scroll down to the bottom until you see "Tablet Mode"Verify that  it is set to off. Please let me know the outcome. Best of Luck and Happy Holidays!

When the computer is off - and I split the tablet from the keyboard - I then start the tablet up - everything boots fine.  When I open up a browser (either firefox or edge) and  I  touch the address bar of the browser to put the cursor there and then touch the icon to bring up the onscreen keyboard - I try to type in an address but the keyboard switches every 3 or 4 seconds between 2 different kinds - one with a .com (and a .ca also- I'm in canada) near the spacebar and one without it - I cannot get in more than 2 or 3 characters before the browser highlights the address bar - and I can't enter any more characters unless I delete them and type real fast. I'm sure it is some sort of windows 10 issue with the on screen keyboard being used with a browser (problem only happens when I use a browser - either of the above). I can get around this by opening google and typing my address in the googles search window in the main body of the screen - but no other way. I have updated windows and all the hp drivers - am at a loss - did an internet search and nowhere could I see that peoples on screen keyboard has the .com button next to the spacebar. This issue does not happen if I start the unit up with the keyboard & screen attached - then detach it and work with it as a tablet. I have also tried various windows settings as touch friendly tablet mode - with no luck. I should mention one other anomily that may be related - sometimes wh... Hello, I'm having trouble starting my 260. Im using the hard drive decryption and therefore need to enter password before booting. Once in a while, the keyboard refuses to work directly After a restart. backlight comes up during the first second. But at the password screen it just doesn't respond. I have to plug in an external USB keyboard to enter the key. After that it starts and Boots into Windows where the internal keyboard is working again. I am suspecting the keyboard disabeling mechanism when you put it into Yoga mode, because the error seems to happen more often when the keykeyboard is folded away. Do you have any suggestions how to resolve the issue? Im on a business trip right know and can't use the Laptop anymore due to no avaliable keyboard. Best regards Martin

Do these utility programs work with the on-screen keyboard (that tablets have)? I would like to disable that little button next to the 'X' at the top-right- that will snap-resize all the windows that are currently open. (Sorry, don't know what that button is called).

That is so annoying, and I hit it accidently a lot when typing.

I have a basic model of the YOGA 300 (11 BY).  Due to size limitations of the eMMC drive, I couldn't upgrade to windows 10 (not enough disk space). So I downloaded the windows 10 installer/ISO to a 32gb SD Card, and upgraded from there.. actually (probably a mistake in retrospect) I did a clean install.. Windows 10 runs with no problems, and I downloaded./installed all the Lenovo drivers for windows 10 for this machine. Unfortunately I now have two issues: 1. When I flip the screen into tablet mode, the laptop doesn't seem to realise, and so I don't get the auto-tablet mode that I would expect? 2. Even with all the Lenovo drivers for this machine installed, I do not get any touch-screen response at all.. only mouse driven. Any help would be appreciated. P.S:  Anyone with the same version of YOGA 300 with an eMMC who wish to gain more drive space?  You can buy a cheap USB 3.0 slimline USB disk (because the SD Card sticks out a bit) and create a VHD which gives you a second "real drive"... this was particularlly useful when wanting to store my dropbox/onedrive sync locations!

Hi

I've just acquired a Satellite R10-101 Laptop/Tablet.

The machine did not come with a touch pen so I am unsure if the touch screen is working or not.

When the machine is in tablet mode the touch screen does not respond to any touch with a finger. I have tried a pointing device from a hand held Windows CE device that has a touch screen but this does not work on the R10's touch screen.

Does the touch screen need to be enabled or do I need to obtain a Toshiba Touch Pen?

The machine is running Windows XP Tablet Edition. Will I get the same functionally if I upgrade to Windows 7. Is the R10's hardware compatible with Win 7?

Thanks for any help or advice.

A:Satellite R10-101: touch screen does not respond in tablet mode

Hi

The display panel works as a touch sensitive digitizer screen.
You need the Tablet Pen in order to use the touch display in tablet mode.

I think that you can order the missing tablet pen from Toshiba authorized service partner in your country or google for the part numbers: P000407550 or P000445420

Ever since the new windows 10 anniversary update, my laptop no longer enters or asks to enter tablet mode when i bend the screen back. This is quite frustrating as normally it would change and the keyboard would b deactivated, but now when i flip it back the keyboard remains active and i end up pressing random keys. I have tried different settings for whether or not to be asked to enter tablet mode in windows settings but it doesnt change anything.

If I fold the screen all the way around to tablet mode, whenever I'm in landscape mode, the screen is upside down. In Portrait mode it's fine.
I've spent  a few hours with Dell support who loaded drivers, did a system restore, loaded more drivers and declared it fixed. After a few rounds of doing literally nothing but loading windows updates, it's broken again. Is there a way to tweak how the sensor works?

Also, when in tablet mode, even though the keyboard is locked, the touchpad isn't which can be annoying.

A:Latitude 11 3147 screen upside down in tablet (landscape) mode.

Same here.  Tent mode or Landscape Tablet mode, the display is inverted.
I've searched for a solution since purchase. I found it was affecting many others.
I thought there was finally a fix for Win8.1 but that won't work on Win10.
I just saw two other machines running WIn10 and they worked correctly.
Anyone found a fix for this problem?

Hi

We have bought a Portege Z20t-C-121 to test it as a replacement for some of our senior management. I re-built it with Windows 10 Enterprise and installed all the latest Drivers from the Toshiba Website. The Intel Wi-Fi Driver did not work correctly so I downloaded and installed it from the Intel website.

The only thing I can't get to function seems to be the auto screen rotation; when I un-dock the screen to use it as a tablet Windows detects this and switches to tablet mode but, however I turn the screen it remains in the same landscape orientation that it was in when it was docked.

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Enterprise

I own a Fujitsu TH700 Tablet PC. It initially ran Windows 7 and everything was working really well on it, but then I upgraded to Windows 10 (I was curious) and some features just have not worked properly since. The one problem that I have been unable to fix is the touch screen. When the computer is in its "laptop position" (see image) the touch screen works just fine. However, when I rotate the screen and click it into the "tablet position" the touch screen becomes completely unresponsive. When I lift the lid again into the "laptop position", the screen remains unresponsive until I put the computer to sleep and wake it up again. After that, it works completely fine.

When the laptop screen is turned and clicked into the "tablet position", there is a programming shift that happens to turn the laptop into "tablet mode" (this is not the same as Windows 10 tablet mode. In-fact, Windows 10 tablet mode doesn't recognize me turning the screen and clicking it into the "tablet position"). I'm not sure what the differences are between the TH700's laptop mode and tablet mode. The only thing I can see is that the screen auto rotates (as shown in the image).

This malfunction started occurring soon after I downloaded Windows 10, but I'm fairly sure it was working properly for a week or so. It was only when I connected my TH700 (in the "tablet position") into an external projector that the touch scree... Read more

1) Uninstall the latest driver and install the 11.5682 driver
2) Bios Flash
3) Calibrate
I am done with the first two steps but still my touch screen is not recognizing the pen. So I couldn't calibrate.
When I contacted the HP care again, they are telling it may be because of hardware failure. My notebook is working perfectly except this touchscreen.

I have upgraded my X201 Tablet to Windows 10 32bit. As far as I can tell, everything is working, including the WACOM drivers and touchscreen.  Wireless has worked perfectly so far, not sure about Bluetooth as I don't use it. My only issue is that the buttons on the display do not work. The power button located on the display does work. I tried installing the Tablet Button Driver II and it will go through the install but the buttons do not work.  This is the download link:http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds027627 The document claims Windows 10 compatability and was Last Updated :08 Jun 2015. On inspection, all the files extracted are dated from 2012 and when trying to manually run the software Windows throws up an error that the software is not supported on this PC.   I removed and reinstalled and noted that the driver information page when running the installer does NOT have Windows 10 listed as a supported system. My assumption is that the driver that they have linked on the download page is NOT the most current driver and is infact the driver for Windows 7 from 2012. Does anyone know how to contact Lenovo to get the correct driver posted to the page, or know of an alternate source to try and find it?

My husbands ASUS touch screen laptop-keyboards are not working. I know it has windows 8. Core i3 intel inside. Like I said it is a touchscreen and neither the hardware keyboard or touch screen keyboard will do any thing (well it is like the computer understands i am doing something with the keyboard, but not typing. Ex. i will type and the curser line will do nothing but suddenly go like an italicized line. The mouse works and the touch screen works but I cannot type anything. I have wiggled the keys thinking maybe something is stuck but no help. also I have restored it to its factory settings thinking maybe he accidentally set some keyboard sleep command or something. We are both not smart at this, and again it is not my computer, he has it for work, so who knows what he did to it. But yeah, after restore it still wouldn't work and now I am stuck at the registration "getting started" windows and I cannot bypass them....or don't know how to without being about to type. The last it worked he said he cleaned it with pressurized air, so I don't know if that was too much for the keys...if he actually blew dirt into it, or what strange thing could have happened...but the fact that both touch screen and actual keyboard aren't working I am left stumped. I hope I gave enough information on the computer. It has that surface windows...he normally just uses the desk top mode. Ok thank you for any advice.

I am using Windows XP home edition with SP3. It was working normally. I used to get a popup "Windows cannot find "syssetup.exe"....When i opened yesterday morning I found it taking longer and never go to the desktop after giving the username and password. It stops at Welcome screen with a msg "Loading your personal settings" and no more response. I followed below steps to trouble shoot the issue.

1.I have tried opening in both "safemode" and "safemode with networking", found its working fine. I ran "msconfig" in safemode and unchecked some unwanted applications(nothing related to windows process) and tried again opening in normal mode.... Not worked

2. My internet works normally in safemode. Found some virus by running antivirus in safemode and cleared all the viruses.

It would be really appreciable if any one could solve my issue..

Cheers!

I'm not blindly posting the issue. I have done research and followed other threads in order to troubleshoot the problem but to no avail.

I built my computer back in January of this year. Not up until a few days ago did I start having this issue. I can't think of any major changes I made in order to cause this. I can use my Logitech Mouse and Keyboard the wake the computer up from the sleep mode... but once it's up, neither of them are responding.

Things I checked for: Latest update on the USB drivers, Logitech Software update (including the PS/2 Driver) Windows update. I checked if the option is checked ON for 'Allow this device to wake up the computer' (and it is on). When other things are plugged in the same USB port, they work just fine after sleep mode, e.g. my drawing tablet...

I'm using Windows 7. The Logitech mouse and keyboard are sharing a unified receiver. If I put the computer to sleep manually and try waking it up using the mouse and keyboard, they both work just fine. Only when the machine falls asleep by itself that this issue occurs.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A:Mouse and Keyboard not working after sleep mode...

Sounds like you may have a problem with the wireless keyboard and mouse. Try a wired keyboard and mouse and see if the same problem occurs, then we can take it from there.

Works in safemode. Doesn't even turn on or have a light in normal mode. Also unplugging and plugging the mouse/keyboard into any other usb port makes an usb device failed error sound instead of successfully plugged in sound.
Works flawlessly no problem in safemode? What gives??

Hello all, I have a problem with my laptop. As you can see in the title, the keyboard and touch pad do not work in safe mode. However, they both work when I start up my laptop normally. I just want to get into safe mode to scan and fix errors.
It has been like that for a while now, I have been researching about it, but I can't find anything that might help my situation.
USB keyboard and mouse help, but I don't want to plug them in every time I want to go on safe mode. I don't know how to fix it.
I must warn you, that I know nothing about computers. I am running Windows Vista, if that helps. I don't know what to put up exactly. . So if you could help me, tell me what to put up, if you want more details about my system, It would help if you could tell me where I could find more specific details about my computer. Forgive me, If I sound stupid, lol.

Hi,

I've had this problem for a while now and I REALLY got tired of it, so here goes: every time I put my PC to sleep mode, when I "wake it up" by pressing the power button, my Mouse and Keyboard either aren't recognized at all (although theres the normal LED flashing on them as if they were working) or they have other bugs, like for example the Keyboard is locked with a certain letter like A or something and it keeps spamming AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

The only way to fix it is to pull the USB plugs and put them in again - then everything is fine! But as I said above I got tired of unplugging+plugging the USBs of my keyboard and mouse every time, especially since I use sleep mode a lot throughout the day.

Thanks for your tips in advance,

Hashmeister.

So it tries to start the computer normally which results in a blue screen comes up saying something about new hardware is not compatible. Hey guys,
I bought a Flex 3 1580 about a week ago. I reformatted the computer because the video drivers were screwed up, but now when I flip the laptop around to tablet mode, nothing happens. The keyboard cuts out and everything but I no longer get the little pop up that asks if i want to switch. I've tried going into tablet settings and telling it to automatically switch without asking, but this also doesn't work.
I'm wondering if maybe I missed a cruicial piece of software after I reformatted because it was working perfectly before, but I reinstalled everything available on the lenovo website and nothing helped.
I've tried googling this problem over and over but I can never seem to find any answers, especially for this specific model.
Really would appreciate help with this. It's not a huge deal because I can still swith manually, but it certainly would be nice to have it working as before.
Thanks!

The way that Microsoft setup Kiosk mode is unusable. When a customer comes into our store and uses a browser restricted to only use the available links on the page (Kiosk mode) expecting them to know what key strokes they  need to use to go forward
and backwards in the browser is unreasonable. The other problem is that we deploy touch screens with NO keyboards. Does anyone know how to use Kiosk mode but still have the navigation keys available for the users to select. The only other way I can think of
doing this is to go to a totally different browser. To expect in this day and age, with the usage of touch screens, to still require a keyboard for navigation in kiosk mode is just silly. Now that I have vented any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I have a Dell demension running xp. I was trying to fix an issue the other day with a program that kept trying to update but wouldnt. So I looked up how to disable windows downloading program (can't remember the details...). Anyways, it was running fine after I restarted but the next day I turned on my machine and the blue screen appeared with some kind of error saying "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" and also in a black screen said keyboard failure. I tried to boot in safe mode and I guess the keyboard wont let me. Also on the black screen that it takes me to with an option to take me back to the previous point where it was running fine comes up, I cannot use the error key to select that choice. So it times out and the blue screen appears.
Somepne please help. I'm a dummy. Will a computer repair guy know how to boot it up so I can use GOBACK that is installed?

A:Blue screen and keyboard failure/can't get to SAFE mode

what model of Dell demension and what are the exact numbers of the error? (this is for the more advanced tech support pple. I'm mainly a hardware and configuration kind of gal, tho I do have a fair amount of xp knowledge)

You might want to try a new keyboard, it could have went out coincidentally at the same time you had trouble.

Worse comes to worse you might have to replace your mobo (since the keyboard component of almost all dells are onboard) or disable it in bios and use a usb keyboard. Most recent bios chips will recognize a usb keyboard, although not all of them do.

Another thing to do is examine all keys to make sure there arent any stuck ones, Dells are fickle beasts that don't like their keys stuck and will disable the keyboard if it does find one.

Edit: what program was it that was trying to update? Can you recall the name? I'm pretty sure your local pc shop can fix it, but why pay them when itg might be something simple to fix, remember patience here. I'm on my way to bed, I subscribed to this thread and will check back in the morning.

Hi,
I have 3 issues with my Dell 3147 laptop.
The first one has to do with the keyboard and touchpad. For no apparent reason, the touchpad will disable and re-enable itself and in the process the physical keyboard will completely disable and won't enable again unless I restart the laptop
Second issue has to do with the sleep mode. Whenever I put the laptop on sleep mode I cannot go back to my session and have to press the power button for several seconds until the laptop resets/restarts completely.
Third issue has to do with the screen. It will flip upside-down without me doing anything, which means that I need to manually revert it using the keyboard shortcut everytime.
Appreciate any help.
My laptop is still under warranty, only bought it 10 months ago.
Thanks,
Ioannis

Maybe you've heard this one before? Very similar to the problem reported here on the forums at:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/892740-solved-keyboard-not-working-xp.html

Here's the basics:
I have a 7 yr old computer that I am going to replace soon, so I just need to keep it limping along for right now. It was built by Voodoo PC (before they were bought by HP) and had Windows XP installed (no SP!). I have added a few disk drives, replaced one drive, added DVD writer, etc. and yes, replaced the PSU as well, but for the most part not changed (much) of the internal hardware. It has been updated to SP1, SP2 (using a MS XP with SP2 install disk) and about 3 years ago I updated it to SP3.

Other than having tons of photos I have taken and lots of imaging software, there is not a lot installed, but I did have to replace one of the hard drives last year.

Last week I installed MALWAREBytes because my ISP indicated there was some "unusual activity" on my ISP (of course we have multiple PCs and my ISP did not indicate which PC was the problem). It found the usual "problems" which are false positives in the tools used to debug (and Decrapify) my daughter's PC from two years ago. I also checked for rootkits using a few tools from trusted vendors, but found nothing.

Normally my PC is on 24/7, lately though I have been seeing some warnings in the Event Viewer that indicated my "D" drive was having problems writing to the Page file. And ev... Read more

On the Windows XP login screen I am unable to type anything with my keyboard. My mouse works fine, but I am unable to login because my account is password protected.

The keyboard works in BIOS. I am able to boot into Safe Mode (and Safe Mode With Networking) but in every instance I am unable to use my keyboard at the login screen.

My keyboard is a PS2 keyboard, but I also tried using a USB keyboard from another PC and that didn't work either. BUT...on the USB keyboard there is a "turn off computer" button and for some reason that worked even though none of the actual keys worked.

----

I found the solution here for anyone who has this problem in the future.

1. Boot from XP CD
2. At the menu, press R to load the Recovery Console.
3. At the command prompt, type this:
copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config
4. Overwrite: Y

It overwrites one file and fixes the problem.

Dear techguys,

Non-native English speaker+frustrated, so pls dont mind my grammar etc.

Anyway heres the problem: I can't use my mouse and keyboard at the Windows (Vista) log-in screen. They just don't move. Though the numlock light + optical light do light-up. They're non-usb btw, so PS/2 (or smth).

And here's the strange part: I can enter the BIOS at the 'Acer'-screen.
Also, with pressing F8, I can boot 'Last Known Good Config' .. and then my mouse and keyboard work properly at the Windows Log-in screen!
Though when I shut the system off.. and restart.. mouse and keyboard fail at log-in screen again. So I have to startup 'Last Known Good Config'.. it's the only way I can get to my computer (though I haven't dared to try Safe Mode yet).

I have no idea what the problem might be, since everything just functions properly at 'Last Known Good Config' until I shut the system off... so now I just keep it at sleep-mode and don't dare to shut it haha.

Please help me save my energy bill lol.

PS: I've tried System Recovery via a regular recovery-CD.. (I didn't make an ACER one yet, though they did supply me with empty DVDs for that purpose.. but that shouldnt matter). It said my C:\ disk wasn't ready or something.. and when I checked for startup-problems.. it said problem 6: NoHardDisk or smth.. which is very strange since BIOS just shows my harddrive and 'Last Known Good Config' ... About 1 month ago I did a clean install of Windows 10 for the first time.

All has been well, until recently when my PC went to sleep, and when I woke it, the screen wouldn't wake up, so I had to hard reset it. At this point Windows installed some updates and it seemed to be ok.

Today I cold booted and when I got to the Windows 10 lock screen, the keyboard and mouse do not work. I can confirm that they do work at POST and in Windows 7 on my other drive. When I get the Windows 10 boot screen, the num lock light on the keyboard goes out as does the optical light on my mouse. Both are USB.

I've done some googling and so far I can only see options to reinstall windows, or restore it.

Windows 10 seems to be unusable now, can anyone help get this working?

I have a toshiba satellite ( not sure the rest). At the moment I cannot use the left side of my keyboard and the screen after I manage to log in by using the on screen keyboard  is not loading either. I have no idea if this is even fixable, any reccomendations?

A:Screen not loading AND half of the keyboard not working

Both of those items connect to the motherboard via flexible cables. Is it possible that something might have partially loosened them?

We've had a few HP 1020 and 1040 models in recently and all have the same issue. When the laptop is docked, the external keyboard does not work in the Bitlocker screen. It works in BIOS and in Windows itself, but not in Bitlocker. This means we have to open the laptop screen to input the Bitlocker PIN, then leave it open and GPO dictates that the machine hibernates when the lid is closed. We have tweaked the GPO, but to no avail. ANyone else seen this or have a solution?

if the bios is up to date, i would look at BIOS settings. I believe Fast Boot setting is Enabled in your case, which might cause usb devices not to be seen at the stage Bitlocker requires

For some reason I now have a white screen that I cannot get rid of because along with that problem, my wireless mouse and wireless keyboard will not work. I tried hooking up my old keyboard and mouse and they did not work either. Which direction should I go in with this problem. I can't do anything without the mouse working. If it worked I could retore my screen.

Good morning from sunny Cambodia.

My keyboard and mouse work in BIOS but stop at the Windows 7 log-in screen.

This after I flushed my motherboard (ASUS). The flush finished successfully as far as I can tell.

Here is what I have tried:

Starting in safe mode; keyboard and mouse still stop at log-in.

Resetting CMOS.

Trying a system restore. That gave me an error that it could not access a file due to a virus scanner running. I don't know how to uninstall the virus scnner without keyboard and mouse.

Moving from USB 3 to USB 2 but it would appear all USB sockets go dead at log-in.

Changing the USB settings s in BIOS.

Reading every related post I could find on the internet.

I do have Windows 7 Professional installed on another HDD and that starts without problems so it is not a hardware malfunction. However, all my programs are under Windows 7 and I do not want to re-install everything.

I am all out of ideas now and any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Hanno

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Do you have a PS/2 keyboard you can use temporarily?

What is the make and model number of the mouse and keyboard?

Have a bit of a problem and need help! I'm running Win7 64bit and for some reason, in the last couple of days, the Screen Saver and Sleep Mode are not working. I have Screen Saver set to start in 10 minutes and Sleep Mode to start in 30 minutes (been that way for years). Neither one is starting now. I checked the settings and they are as they should be. I manually tested Screen Saver in the Personalize Box and it test just fine!

What could be causing these two items not to Start as scheduled in there, and what might be possible fixes?

Thanks for any insights!

A:Screen Saver and Sleep Mode not Working?

Sounds to me like a program(s) running in the background could be the cause of these 2 items not working the way they should be. When you are done with the system for the day etc; make sure you exit all programs completely. Try that and see if it starts working the way it should again. If not post back

This just started (I.e. used to work fine) and nothing new has been installed. Keyboard works if I do startup with F12 (I can select screen options with it), but when it gets to startup screen, neither keyboard nor mouse function. Can't get into computer to check or alter any settings, as all is frozen. Tried rebooting, unplugging all peripherals and USB thumbdrives, ran complete system diagnostics, etc. but no luck. Help please!I

Welcome to the forum!

Turn on your computer and then hammer the F8 key. Boot into safe mode. The from there click start, accessories, system tools, system restore.

Then restore the computer back to a point where it last worked.

Hi, Tech Guy Forums.
A few minutes ago I had to shut down my computer impropery(by holding down the power button) because my computer froze after trying to logging off one of my accounts.(i hope this doenst mean anything)

So I turned my computer back on my pressing the power button again and when I got to the windows welcome login screen I could not type in my password!
My keyboard is not broken, the lights are on, and it was working fine before I had to shut down my computer . I can still enter the boot setup and the keys work in there. It's just when I get to windows login screen it stops working.
I have tried restarting my computer many times that doesn't work. I tried putting my keyboard usb into all the other slots and that doesn't work either.
Help! Is this a virus?

A:Keyboard stops working at Windows Login Screen! Help.

While the computer is booting up, try tapping the F8 key. See if the windows advanced options menu, appears. Try selecting "Last known good configuration". Otherwise you can try safemode. If you are able to use the keyboard in safemode, then I would uninstall the keyboard drivers, and let windows reinstall it upon normal bootup.

I'm on win 7 pro with all updates. 100% sure that I didn't install any software or change any setting but just restarted my computer because it felt slow and its been a while. I do this every now and then to get good feels. Problem now is at the login screen, my keyboard and mouse don't work anymore. The same problem happens even when I select safe mode. I must mention that I've been having monitor problems in the last 2-3 days but I can't see that connected with this issue. Or is it? My dell ultrasharp is dying it looks like. Half of the screen to the left is flickering and the rest half is alright. After an hour or two it looks fine but then the problem comes back. I'm gonna buy a new monitor but this login issue cannot be connected with my monitor going bad right? The monitor is exhibiting this issue in the POST and BIOS screens too so I'm guessing it has nothing to do with the video drivers.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I must add that the keyboard/mouse works during the POST and BIOS setup screens. I'm also able to select safe mode option after pressing f8 in the advanced boot options

A:keyboard and mouse stop working at login screen

I would recommend fixing the problem you know you have first. Whether it will fix the keyboard/mouse problem or not. Replace the monitor with a known good monitor for testing.
