WIFI Gets Disables and requires Reboot to enable again

Q: WIFI Gets Disables and requires Reboot to enable again

So. at random times my WIFI gets disabled and when I hover over the symbol it says wifi networks available. When I go into the network list it just goes into a loop that never loads the list.

the none of the network list services can be restarted/stopped/started and in device manager I can not disable/uninstall/re-install my wifi adapter.

The only way to re-enable my wifi is to completely restart my computer with a forced shutdown (hold the power button) because normal methods go into loops that never end.
In the past I did fix it for an extended period of time by downloading the most recent .net Framework, this seemed to solve the problem for months until now.

It has become necessary to fix my WiFi connection each time I reboot Vista on my Dell Inspiron 1525.
First, I get a message that my Wi-Fi Catcher band configuration is not compaitble with the WLAN card band configuration. So I select YES to automatically change the band configuration.
Next, I get a message that this is fixed.
The final fix is to use the Diagnose and Repair function from the tray Wi-Fi icon. This fixes the problem until the next boot.
I tried to fix this by restoring to a restore point. The problem seemed to show up after an automatic update.
The restore did not fix the problem.
Anyone with an idea?

Hi turbine_guy,
I suggest you to update the wireless drivers, BIOS to the latest version and check if that fixes the issue. You can download the latest drivers from the following link by selecting the Operating System (Windows Vista 32-bit):

I have Win 7 Home Premium.

Is there an easy way to disable my wireless connection so that (a) it does not enable itself after a reboot, and (b) I don't need to implement the complete process to re-enable the wireless?

Under normal circumstances, the re-enable after a reboot is fine. I can disconnect WiFi from the system tray, and it reconnects after reboot.

But sometimes, I might want wireless to remain disabled after reboot. For example, if I'm doing a database restore, and the database starts synching after a reboot (such as Evernote), it could cause problems :-)

At the moment, I simply switch off the router until the database restore is complete.

A:How to turn off WiFi so that it does not re-enable after reboot?

Just don`t let it connect.

Doesn`t the laptop have an on off switch for wireless ? Most laptops do.

I keep getting popups saying that my system is at risk since my McAfee is disabled. When I turn it back on, it usually immediately disables. When I try to run a scan with it, it says it is scanning, but stays at 0% for hours on end. I noticed on the log it says that it is disabled when my McAfee says it is enabled and scanning. When I tried to scan with Malwarebytes, it worked fine and said nothing was wrong. My computer has also been freezing more than usual, with several Adobe Flash problems.

Acer Travelmate 3010, intel centrino 1.66Ghz, windows XP SP3, external firewire DVD multirecorder.
I recently found that my external DVD drive was not being recognised by the system. After a little searching I found that the Texas Instruments firewire controller was disabled and using device manager re-enabled it and it worked fine.
The only problem is that every time I reboot the pc the firewire controller disables itself again and I have to do the same thing to make it work. Unplugging the DVD drive and replugging while the controller is enabled works fine. I have no other firewire devices and no USB devices attached, and it is connected to a wireless network.
I think I hear the windows "device disconnect" noise on boot up after windows has started but before it is fully up, which suggests to me that windows is disabling it.
I have searched the forums but can't find anyone with a similar problem. Can anyone help.

Have an issue with a HP dv2200 laptop with Vista on it. It's started to disconnect the wireless, not all the time, but intermittently. When it disconnects it goes to limited connectivity, and I can't ping the router, although it still lists a valid ipv4 address for me. When I try to repair it it won't work, and when I disconnect it doesn't see any wireless networks until I restart. It also seems to start freezing intermittently if I try to go into any of the network settings. I was able to get into them eventually and it listed the wireless card as disabled, but it wouldn't let me reenable it. Restart fixes it, but it keeps happening. Everything on the computer's been updated(bios, wireless drivers, Windows updates), but it's still doing it. Any ideas?

I have a customers Packard Bell Easynote MX37 laptop that I have installed Windows 7 on... Original OS Vista Home Premium.

The problem I am faced with is the WiFi switch.

The WiFi switch will activate itself on start up and enable wireless connection, but if the switch is pressed it disables wireless and stays disabled, no matter how many times switch is pressed. Once laptop is restarted it will become active again...

Hi Tech Guys,

I have a HP Pavilion dv6000t.
OS: Windows Vista 32bit (I hate this stupid OS)
Wifi Card: Intel Pro 3945abg

Here's my problem. For the longest time (about 2 years after first use), the card would all of a sudden decide to disable itself. The normally blue (on position) indicator LED turns to orange (off position) even when the physical switch is at the on position. At this point, the Wifi no longer receives or sends any signals...normally, I would just reboot the computer and it's back on. Or I use the hardware management, go into the wifi card's driver and disable it and the re-enable it. But it's not a solution to the problem...mere bandages for a larger issue.

I've googled this issue time and time again; coming up with several people who share the same problem. Some have proposed updating or downgrading the wifi card's drivers...i've tried both and no dice. I've disabled the power managment on the card itself so it doesn't shut itself off automatically. I've tried switching off ipv6 and exclusively use ipv4. All comes up fruitless. I still have the issue.

Also, I've been experiencing local or limited connectivity frequently as well; and I think it's related to the issue i mentioned above.

Also, a note: I am pretty sure this isn't my router's issue...I have several other computers (one of which is a Vista 64bit and other are XP Home) which can connect to the network without problem... Read more

Did it work as expected with Vista? Maybe there is a Packard Bell WLAN utility you need to download from their web site? If no Windows 7 one maybe a Vista one that will still work.

Is the switch a toggle or slide switch?

Greetings fellow people,
I have a Dell Studio 1735 running Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
Recently I updated Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) and downloaded a couple of .mp3 music files.
At the same time I also noticed a strange error with my laptop..
Everytime I turn my machine on, I get this 'red shield with an [X]' icon on my taskbar.
When I click it, I get taken to windows security center and my [Automatic updating] is disabled.
On rare occasions, ALL of the items in windows security center are disabled.
So I turn it back 'em on; only to have it disabled on my next startup.
I suspected I may have a malware issue here so I ran a couple of full scans.
MSE found nothing.
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware came out empty as well.
IObit Malware Fighter also landed on nothing.
Right now I have no solutions to this problem.
I'm seeking some advice and any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
P.S. My recently downloaded .mp3 files have not been removed as I do not know if this issue is related to them.

A:Windows Automatic Updates Automatically Disables After Reboot

Hey man,
can you get onto your OS at all.  Meaning in normal boot or in Safe mode?
Do you have more than one antivirus running, if so the new or other antivirus will always try to disable security center being that with the expection of MBAM you dont want two antiviruses running, they will fight eachother.
To stop the issue try this

After you login
Press Windows key + R
Type: services.msc
Scroll down to Windows Defender
Select it make sure it is running and it is status is set to Automatic.
If not fixed AND if you have another antivirus you can either delete the 3rd party antivirus, or in this same services.msc turn off windows defender, which most antiviruses will do for you be default.

Hello today during a program installation the installer froze. Once I tried to close out of it even though it said it was closed in the Task Manager it still showed up on my screen. I restarted my computer thinking nothing of it. During the boot up there was no issues.

Once my computer booted completely my USB mouse was not working. I tried it on another computer and decided it was not the mouse that was the problem. I booted into safe mode and tried it again and it still didn't work. The light would flash during BIOS but then once Windows loaded the light would go out.

I finally discovered the problem - I was looking in my device manager and all of my USB ports and Network Adapter are disabled whenever I restart my computer.

Thankfully the solution is quite simple. I can uninstall all of my USB host controllers and Vista will re-install them and they will work afterwards. Also the Network Adapter isn't disabled in this image because I'm currently using the internet to make this post - all I had to do was Enable it.

Vista keeps DISABLING all of my USB ports, and my Network Adapter whenever I restart the operating system. Every thing works perfectly fine during boot up but then once Windows Vista 64 starts to load it decides to turn those things off.

I have read on several websites about a file with Vista that gets corrupted called INFCACHE.1 and to delete it to fix problems with USB ports. This isn't helping me though because whenever I delete the f... Read more

I upgraded my friends HP laptop to Windows 10. The issue now is I can't enable Wifi. The card is recognized correctly in Device manager and no issues is found with it. It looks like it is fine. However in the Network Settings WLAN is set to "Off" and when I try to turn it on it always jumps right back to off. eg. I can't enable it.

HP is now help as they clearly state any laptop bought prior to specific date in 2013 will not get any driver updates from their side for windows 10. (Guys, never buy HP again please...). And updating through device manager only tells me it's the newest driver available.

The Wifi card i Broadcom 4313GN card. I searched for win 10 drivers but did not find anything. They only offer linux drivers on their homepage...

So can anyone either provide a solution to the issue or link to a win 1' driver for this wifi card?

My name is Jane and I am on a Windows 8 X 64 system and all has been great for a while. About 3 days ago I started having the computer freeze up suddenly. At first it would recover after a short time but finally it totally crashed the system, requiring a reboot to get going again. It seems to happen a lot when i right click on something, but has also happened when the system was not active once, today. I was reading some web instructions and suddenly my screen went black and I got a message saying there was no video signal. The progress I have seen with this was at first just freezing for a few seconds, then for a longer time. Then it stopped recovering at all and the screen would black out and I would get the no signal message. Now my user account is totally trashed. If I try to log in to it I get a black screen, the no signal message and have to reboot to get my video back. I am using the Admin account to send this and it seems to be ok, but I did have one crash from this account earlier too.

At first I thought it was something in Chrome so I uninstalled it and reinstalled because the crashes seem to always come when I was using Chrome. I do not think that fixed it, though because it has crashed since then. I looked around in safe mode, but I really have no idea of what I am looking for. Any thoughts, suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone know what may cause this? Right now the computer is set to go into standby mode when I shut the lid, but lately when I reopen it (usually 10-15 minutes later) I just get a black screen and have to reboot.

The only thing I can think of that may have caused this is changing my hardware acceleration. I was having problems with Microsoft Streets and Trips and their GPS and they told me to turn HA down. Not sure if this is the direct cause.

Anyone have ideas or experience with this? Thanks.

A:Laptop hangs after closing lid; requires reboot

Sounds like your video card is not being reinitialized. This can be caused by several situations:

1) Your AWAKE settings in the BIOS have reverted to OFF - this can happen when the onboard battery goes out. Have you been getting any other strange occurrences lately? Longer boot cycle, additional memory test, etc. . . . .

2) Your power save mode is set to shut the monitor off in standby - check your power settings.

3) When you try to come out of standby-mode, the monitor doesn't get a strong enough signal to activate - try turning off and on the monitor to see if anything happens.

4) You may not be waiting long enough for the standby-mode to reactivate the system. If your power savings settings are set to power down HDD, video, processor, etc., it takes a bit for things to get fully back up and running.

5) Last, but not to be discounted: power supply. Don't know what your hardware configuration looks like, but it could be that the additional PCI card you added put your requirements right to the top of what your PSU can offer.

The basics:

Vista Home with SP1 and all updates.
Firefox 3.0.5
ZoneAlarm firewall
Avast! AntiVirus
Road Runner internet through Time Warner

The problem is intermittent which leads me to believe it is an ISP issue.

After browsing for "a while" (sometimes 10 mins, sometimes 30) I will get the status of "Waiting for" and it never connects. If I close Firefox and restart, I get the message that Firefox is still running. If I open IE at this point, it also will not change from status "Waiting for" Now here's the part that really pisses me off... when I try to reboot, my computer hangs indefinitely and I have to do a 'hard' shutdown by pressing and holding the power button. Immediately on reboot, it works fine again.

I know this is a pretty vague start, but I need some direction as to what to look for. I recently did a very thorough malware/virus scan on my computer using several advanced tools. Everything is 100% clean. This will be hard to trouble shoot, because it's so intermittent. I'll also be honest that my next door neighbor, using a Mac and the same ISP, reports similar problems that are usually resolved with a reboot as well. Hoping someone can point me at something that will at least get me started in the right direction.

I restarted my computer and received a startup option list that blinked rapidly until I hit the arrow key ( or mouse ). I was instructred to choose a device that would start up first ( options were Hard Drive or CD Drive ).
I chose Hard Drive and the reboot completed but now periodically the Start up button will work normally and sometimes it simply flases up and back off.
Not sure what to do at this point.

After installing or removing a patch or a feature windows often requires a reboot.
Is there a tool to see exactly why windows asks for this?

In w7 I found that HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations often lists a bunch of actions which can just be ignored (like cleaning up some temp stuff) or can be solved without rebooting by just terminating  a process
or a service which prevented the file rename operations in the current session.
I found lockhunter being a very helpful tool for this purpose.
My server 2012 says it requires a reboot but I don't see any pending file rename operations.
I cannot reboot the server right now so I am curious to know why exactly the server wants a reboot.
I want to judge myself about the criticality of the reason.
If windows says it needs a reboot, it well knows what the files are that need to be replaced so why can't it tell me?
As I said I often can resolve the PendingFileRenameOperations by hand.
If I then delete the PendingFileRenameOperations key windows does not request a reboot anymore.

On the server 2012 I don't see the PendingFileRenameOperations key and windows still says it wants a reboot.
So I want to know where else I need to look for the detailed reasons of the reboot windows pretends to require.

Hi All;

Working on Toshiba Satellite laptop upgraded to Windows 7.

After upgrading to Windows 7 everything worked fine for about 3 months. I had it set to sleep when I close the lid nnd it worked well. But suddenly it began getting pernickity. When I opened the lid, about 15 - 20 seconds later the computer totally froze and I had to reboot. Of course, when reloading I get the message that Windows shut down unexpectedly and a 'solution will be searched' but nothing every happened as far as that goes.

I made a new profile but it did the same thing when working in that.

At approximately the same time as this began, I lost my 'start menu' list, and although I can 'attach items to the list, upon reboot, they disappear. Can the two be related?

Any suggestions for a 'mature' lady who can follow instructions if not too complicated?

I have a lady from my church who approached me with an issue she is having with her laptop. I have not physically seen the laptop or recreated the problem (as I have not looked at it physically yet), but I figured I'd see if anyone here has had this issue and may have a solution so if it really is a problem, then when I can get my hands on it, I might be able to fix it. She said that her WIFI capabilities work perfectly fine, but when she connects her laptop (HP G72) to her TV (model Samsung LN40A55OP3F) via HDMI, she told me her WIFI suddenly stops working. I have a desktop PC running W7x64 for which I rely on my Alfa AWUS036H wireless USB adapter for an internet connection.

W7 has a feature that seems to detect whether I turn off my monitor or not (for one reason, I know this because it makes a noise when I turn it on or off). When I turn my monitor off, my internet is disabled for some reason. I would like it to stay enabled so that I can download files and keep other active connections while the monitor is switched off.

I can verify that the indicator light on the USB adapter turns off when the monitor turns off and that the wireless utility that controls the device senses no device is present (i can see this using my secondary monitor, behavior only occurs when primary monitor is turned off).

Does anyone know how to disable this from happening? I have tried both turning off "Selective USB Suspend" and unchecking the "Allow computer to turn this device off" in the properties of the wireless adapter in device manager.

Hi I have a program called Connectify Dispatch that enable multiple internet connections load balancing, which speed up downloads mostly and sometimes web browsing, my problem that is whenever I use an USB modem Ethernet and WiFi internet stops, this happened since windows 8 but windows 7 works just fine.
This drives me nuts since my internet access is mostly via 3G USB modems but the fastest connection is through a router.

Greetings all, I have been stumped with this issue for quite some time now and was finally able to find a forum like this!
Here's the issue: my computer freezes/hangs randomly when I'm using it. It happens more when I'm playing League of Legends, all of a sudden the mouse and keyboard stop working and the screen is frozen as well. Ctrl + Alt + Del doesn't do anything and so I have to resort to rebooting my computer by holding the power button..
I have already checked my drivers to ensure that they are all updated. I just ran FurMark and that went fine for about 20 minutes before I decided to turn it off. I've tried using command prompt and using dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. However the issue still persists.
I have posted my specs below, any and all help would be so appreciated!

Ok, so I am going to try to explain this as thorougly as possible while trying not to sound like an idiot in the process. I am by no means computer savvy so anyone that has any advice will more than likely need to talk to me like a 5th grader. I am ok with that. Since installing a Windows Update about a month ago, my screen will randomly lock up. At times it will clear itself after a couple of seconds and state something to the effect that "display driver amd has stopped working and recovered." Other times it will stay frozen for about 10 minutes and then will start functioning properly again. More often than not though, it will stay frozen indefinitely and require a hard reboot. This happens during mundane activities. No extreme gaming going on. Generally it is while just browsing the net. It tends to happen more often to my wife who uses it during the day to work through a VPN. I don't believe there is any correlation though. I have read multiple forums on the web and have tried several things, from cleaning the registry to uninstalling the driver software and reinstalling it in safe mode. The latter seemed to work last night but today my wife started having the same issue again. I am attaching the file from the SF Diagnostic tool but it said I didn't have any dumps to log. I'm sorry if that makes a suggestion more difficult. Thank you in advance for any and all help I can get.

A:Screen Freezes randomly, requires hard reboot

See if you can get to the DMP's this way....

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

UPDATE: Problem sorted! THANKS!Hi guys, I'm really glad I found this forum and hope you can help.I was infected with AV Security Suite, ran all the recommended programs such as GMER, TDDS Killer, rkill and malwarebytes and my PC seems to be clean now. When I ran Combofix, I didn't manage to disable Avast!, so I decided to uninstall it. On re-installing the program, I repeatedly encountered the following prompt:Setup has detected that another program setup requires the computer to reboot. You must reboot the computer before installing avast!. Once the system reboots, you need to restart setup. If you decide to continue, application may not work correctly. Do you want to continue?Yes NoOf course I said no each time, and I'm now wondering what that "other program setup" could be. I disabled the Windows firewall, finished the Windows Update Manager, all to no avail. An Adobe Acrobat Reader Update icon that appears on my taskbar during startup seems kinda genuine (when I move the cursor over it or right click it actually says the name and I can close it, so I doubt that's the problem but I'm not sure. Any idea what that other program setup that requires the computer to reboot could be?On the web I found the following help for this problem ("Modifying the Windows Registry"), but I don't want to mess with the registry unless absolutely necessary, even though I have done a back-up with ERUNT:Method 1: Modify the Windows Regi... I'm running windows vista with a Motorola surfboard modem and a cisco lynksis wireless router. The internet connection is fine most of the time, however about once or twice a day (and recently 3-5) the internet connection will just randomly stop. This seems very strange to me because both my modem and router both display internet connectivity. All lights are on on their displays. Every device in the room will not have no connection though and the two computers that use the wireless internet will both display "Local Only" in the network center.

Now at first, this really frustrated me and I searched everywhere for answers and tried everything I could find on forums like this to try and troubleshoot my issue. I finally accepted it and moved on because the ONLY solution is to unplug the modem and plug it back in, wait a minute for it to load, and then the internet is back.

Sometimes it seems like to much bandwidth usage will trip it off, but at other times I can be on my iPhone doing something simple and it'll kill the internet or it will be dead when I get home from work.

My only theory, which I don't even know if this is possible, was that I have too many things going on with my cable outlet. A cord exits the hub into a 4 way splicer (2 tvs and the modem). Maybe that causes problems? Apparently not since a test proved that the problem still exists with only the modem plugged in.

Any suggestions?

Recently I uninstalled Mcafee Security Suite and put in the ones stated on my computer info file. After that, after about 2-3 hours of Internet use use, all web activity stops from my wifi connection and Firefox says:

"Proxy server is refusing connections"
The settings have not changed (always "direct connection").

In IE, the settings have not changed either, yet it spits out an error message. No program on my computer works, despite still supposedly being connected to the wifi box, until restart, (albeit slower) except for 3dtraceroute, which can still ping Google at
. Otherwise, no solution works, including:

Using an IP address
Restarting the browser
Restarting the built-in wifi card
Checking my system for malware
disabling my firewall

I have not tested it on any other connections yet, but other computers do.
What can I do?

This has happened to me on many systems in the past with many different configurations.

Current configuration:
Windows XP SP2 (updated to current but SP3 has not been applied)
Current Directx
Current Catalyst Drivers
AMD 4200 X2
ATI 3750
2GB Ram

Effectively the problem is that every so often on termination some programs will screw up Directx. Typically Direct3d functionality is all that is effected though sometimes even directdraw stops working.

A simple reboot will in all cases fix this problem until the next time, however that is both sloppy and annoying. What I want to know how to do is fix this without a reboot.

I'm assuming that Directx needs to get reloaded or that some other system service needs to be restarted. This is NOT a driver issue or if it is... it is one that has been around on many systems for about a 6 years... and effects both ATI and nVidia chipsets throughout multiple generations of said cards. This problem has been around for a long long time.

I've asked about it from time to time to see if someone knew and most people knew nothing about it.

Anyone have an idea here?

Just as I finished getting my system installed, my Control Panel started hanging.
When I try to open it, I can do nothing on the sytem, I can not even get to the Task Manager to end task. I have to Hard Reboot. Control Panel does open in Safe Mode.

I can not believe Vista is this unstable. I have nothing but Microsoft Products installed. Of course, incompatibilities and embarassing (for MS) bugs is very disheartening. I think I have had to hard reboot this system more in the past 2 weeks then in the last 10 years on w2k and xp.

The system is 2 weeks old. There are no prior versions to restore from.

I have tried refreshing licenses, creating a new user, rebuilding icon cache, I have no idea what else to try.

I would very much like to not have to waste another week rebuilding my brand new Laptop (Dell XPS).

I tried reinstalling from OS. That did not work. Said 'Checking Configuration' all night.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

It may be a power setting that turns down the power for wireless when on battery

what windows version are you running
goto control panel
in the top right > search
type power
you should be able to see the power options
change plan settings
goto advanced
find wireless adapter in the list
and see what the setting is for battery

Hey there, kinda new here.  Anyway.. Let's get down to business. I don't know how to upload anything such as attachments otherwise I'd upload the PCHF results as well as the MiniToolBox results. Yet here's the speccy results: So whenever I do anything, open, try to uninstall, etc, with google chrom my computer is fine for about three seconds then it stalls for about twenty seconds.  After this is -seems- fine, yet really isn't.  Upon attempting ot do anything, log off, open the task manager, etc, the little spinning circle indicating it is loading pops up then it just outright freezes from anywhere between two to five minutes.  After that the mouse can be moved, the keyboard is not locked up as I can toggle caps lock, num lock, etc, yet because everything else is still locked up I cannot do anything or see anything being typed, if it is at all. I have run multiple virus scans with Windows Security Essentials, full scans, I have run startup recovery, I have attempted to system restore yet that failed each time.  My system is absolutely malware free and as of a month or so ago all of my drivers are up to date, which I -think- may be part of my problem.  As I vaguely recall having a similar issue with chrome after updating my video drivers a year or more ago, I had to, as I recall, roll back my drivers to resolve the issue.  I am hoping I don't have to do that a... I ordered this computer from CyberPower. I've listed the relevant specs below. I've read a lot of other people having similar issues, but there doesn't seem to be any concrete answers. My computer randomly freezes and locks up requiring a hard reset to continue. The everything except the mouse freezes, and then eventually the mouse will too. The HDD light is inactive. Event Viewer shows nothing except "The previous system shutdown at 3:44:01 PM on ‎1/‎19/‎2012 was unexpected." This seems to happen at completely random intervals. It usually happens when I'm browsing the web or watching a streaming video (netflix), but it has also happened while loading a program or not doing anything at all. There have been only a couple consistencies. It has never done this while playing a game (I play Starcraft II and Battlefield 3). While trying to reinstall BF3 it has locked up the past 5 times I've tried to install the game.I have reinstalled Windows. Installed current drivers. Run Memtest with no fails. Hi Seven Forums

Have a strange recurring issue and hopefully you guys can help me home in on the problem! Not 100% sure it's software over hardware though.

Situation is - saving a file in Visual Studio 2013 to my external hard drive (usb, exFAT, hardware encrypted) always causes an AppHang. The program stops responding, and any other program which tries to access that location on the drive does the same. These processes refuse to be killed and the only way out is to hard shut down the computer (regular shut down just sits there..). After doing so, chkdsk reveals that the location on the drive has corruption issues, which it then fixes and all is fine. Until the next time I try to save a file that is.

Some more information:

Only started happening about a month ago, before that the files saved fine.
Doesn't happen if I use the drive on another computer running similar Visual Studio
Other programs can save the same files fine. The problem did once occur with P4V, but I can't say with 100% certainty that it wasn't due to forgetting to fix with chkdsk following one of the reboots.
Tried saving files to other USB hard drives (FAT32 and NTFS, yet to try another exFAT) works fine.
My initial thought was PSU not being quite up to powering the drive, as I was already concerned that the wattage wasn't high enough for the machine. Beefier one made no difference though.
Some googling suggested system file corruption, ran System File Checker and there were indeed some corrupted files,... Read more

A:Saving file to external USB requires hard reboot & corrupts every time

If it helps anyone who gets here via google:

It turned out the issue was strongly linked to the drive being exFAT. A USB stick I formatted to exFAT also had the same issues. My conclusion was that it was likely a bug in the latest Visual Studio. Have reformatted my drives to NTFS and all is well.

Sounds like you need a driver update for your Wifi Adapter i would go to the ASUS site and check if they have any updates for your particular machine

If that doesn't fix the issue you might need to do a system restore to where it was working also check if the protocol has been changed from Wifi to fixed connection

I recently gave my old rig to my wife to replace her laptop. Specs are in the sig. This box has been running primarily wired but the Wifi is failing me now. I have tried to enable my wireless connection but its greyed out. I have tried updating drivers with the right click method. I even tried the WLAN Auto Config fix and still no dice. Any other suggestions or maybe its time for an I7 NUC for the MRS.

When I go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Performance Information and Tools and click "Rate this computer", it crashes before it's done.

Desktop Window Manager Sessions Manager is disabled, not running, and the option to start it is greyed out.

sfc \scannow didn't finish, so I ran it at boot using method 1 here: SFC /SCANNOW : Run in Command Prompt at Boot That gave me the error "There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete." I rebooted into windows and then back to the disc several times and got the error each time. My computer does not have a pending.xml file.

Since sfc \scannow wasn't working, I tried to do a repair install using this method Repair Install. I ran the compatibility check (by clicking "upgrade" after starting setup) on the windows 7 disk and it gave me this message: "Windows needs to be restarted so necessary changes to system files can be made before continuing."

Restarting, however, does not accomplish this. What can I do? It seems my main problem right now is finishing up whatever Windows thinks it needs to update on a reboot (I've rebooted many times since discovering the message.)

A:Cannot clear "System repair pending which requires reboot to complete"

Solution ideas:

A. Should I type this after booting to the Windows 7 disk's cmd prompt? dism.exe /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions There is no pending.xml, so I'm not sure if it would do anything.

B. Or maybe I should do something with C:\Windows\winsxs\reboot.xml?

Here's what it says:

<PendingTransaction Version="3.1">
<DeleteKeyValue path="\Registry\Machine\COMPONENTS" name="PendingRequired"/>

Provided you have a WiFi adapter installed in your notebook, you will need to turn on WiFi in your notebook then sign on to an available wireless network.  I suggest downloading your user manual and reading up on this subject for more information. If you do not see any wireless networks, you may need to purchase a Wireless Router from your internet service provider.  If you do not have a WiFi card in your computer you will need to contact Lenovo directly to purchase a compatible card for your specific notebook.
Also - make sure you have a good anti virus software suite installed before you go online.
Good luck.

Hi Ruben_Palacios ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
First to make sure that Airplane mode (page 6) is not enabled, there is a hotkey on top of the keyboard with an icon of a plane.  Check if that would enable your wifi .
Else you can try to set the default of the BIOS ,
Access the BIOS by turning off the laptop and then use the Novo button (item2 page 9) on the left side next to power to turn it on. Novo menu would appear to offer BIOS set up , F9 to load defaults F10 to save and exit .
Load up windows and check if there is a wifi icon at the base of the screen.
Check also on device manager if there is any yellow mark or black down arrow  to indicate any need to reinstall drivers from the support website.
Update us how it goes.

Hello, today I was messing around with "Network and sharing Center" when I accidentally clicked something along the lines of 'disable' beside WiFi. Now it is completely gone and I have no idea how to get it back, I have done extensive Google-ing but couldn't find an answer. I am now using a wired ethernet cable instead but I need my wifi back as soon as possible.

If anyone could help me on getting it back I would be extremely appreciative, thank you very much.

I have a problem, normally I press Fn and F5 to bring up the window to enable/disable Wireless Lan and Bluetooth. But it's suddenly stopped working and I cannot switch on my Wireless Lan. This is on IdeaPad Y580 running Windows 7. 1. When I press Fn F5 no window opens. 2. When I press Fn F6 my track pad is enabled/disabled as normal, although I do not see the notification on screen. 3. When I press the Fn and volume or brightness controls, they work perfectly, but again I do not notification on screen, the bars showing level of volume or brightness. 4. Also the One Touch Recovery and One Key Theater buttons are not working. But the audio Mute button is working. 5. I have uninstalled the Lenovo Energy Management software and reinstalled it but no difference. 6. I have checked the BIOS and Wireless Lan is enabled. 7. I also saw that in Task Manager I cannot see utility.exe running. This is really causing me problems, can anyone suggest a fix? Thanks, Dave.

hi K. Sharath,
From this microsoft article, it looks like the Intel My WiFi technology is not compatible with the Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN card and is only applicable to certain types of Intel Wi-FI adapters.
To turn ON the Wi-Fi capability of the Lenovo Y460, you will need to:
1. Slide the physical wi-fi switch to the ON position
  - Link to picture
2. Press Fn+F5 to enable the wireless card (ensure Current Status is set to "ON")
  - Link to picture
The Lenovo Energy Management Driver must be installed for the function keys to work
3. If same problem, boot into the BIOS by pressing F2 on startup and ensure that the WLAN Device is Enabled.

Let me know how it goes.

I'm new to 7 (all my desktops are XP Home).

With XP, the OS just connects automatically to my home wireless network.

However with this netbook, I have to do it manually everytime I reboot - it's a real pain.

Not sure if this OS, hardware or both.

Can anyone advise ?

I've looked at services.msc WiFi service and it's set to automatic already ....

PS Also, is there a way to get 7 to boot straight to desktop, without having to click on user icon or enter password ?

The reason these 2 are important to me is that this netbook is basically a music server, so when I come in from work etc., I'd like to just power up the netbook then walk off and play stuff via my network (Squeezebox) players

Hey guys,

There is a difficulty i am facing recently in my girlfriend's house only(in all other places it works fine).
I have recently established a WiFi connection for her to use on her phone. It worked great the first day. It continues to work perfect on her mobile. On my net book, though, i can not see WiFi access point in her house.

It appears randomly for several minutes, i try to connect, it does not want to and then the access point disappears for some uncertain period of time. From time to time it appears and works fine from than on but disappears again if computer goes to sleeping mode...

Do you have any ideas what could it be?

I've just installed a wireless PCI adaptor (Tenda W322P 11N) in my desktop PC but I can't 'enable' it - every time I double click it starts to enable then stops and leaves it disabled with no warning or error messages.

The system is definitely seeing it as it's listed in Device Manager, and if I bring up Network Connections (using ncpa.cpl) it's listed and shown as disabled. Why would windows stop it from being enabled??

I've tried downloading new drivers from the manufacturers site in case the drivers on the disk were old - no difference. I uninstalled it and removed the drivers and then re-booted so windows would use it's own drivers - no difference.

It seems the system has a problem with it, but surely ONE of the drivers would work if it was a driver problem?

A:Windows wont let me enable wifi adaptor

the software driver on their site is up to version 4.
If you are running on the driver off the disk it may be problematic.

Okay, it's now 13 Sep 2015 and I went around in circles to figure this out. I saw the same issues, to the point of knowing the driver was installed bu tthe Netgear tools never enable the WNDA3100v2, and one cannot manually enable it either. Also tried a USB A6200 device, with the same results. However, I did make this work, and it's kind of simple in my case. I was running the free Zone Labs Firewall & A/V package. And who's A/V package do they use you ask? Kaspersky! Kaspersky has a known issue with allowing proper installation of Netgear USB wireless adapters. So I followed the recommended guidense of a full uninstall of any Netgear WNDA3100v2 and A6200 drivers and software. Then a full uninstall of Zone Labs tools, reboot the computer, then reinstalled the WNDA3100v2 software. Followed the directions, recognition of the USB WiFi adapter was instant. Changed the device setting for being Enabled to auto connect if wired adapter is not connected, and here we are fully functional.Of course now I need to reinstall Zone Labs software, which according to the write up I read at Zome Labs, it should all just work now.Try this method if nothing else seems to work.

Let me start by explaining what led to my problem.

I work for an electric utility, and we issue Panasonic Toughbook laptops to our linemen containing our mobile mapping and AVL (Automatic Vehicle Locating) software. They are all running Windows XP Professional SP3. Our AVL software requires an internet and VPN connection to our AVL server at the office (we currently use Verizon Air Cards and the Cisco VPN client to achieve this). Since implementing this, we have found that Cisco VPN and the Verizon Air Cards do not work well when the wifi network adapters are turned on (or enabled). When they are turned off (disabled) everything works nicely. We can't just disable the wifi NIC's and call it good either because our user's need the faster wifi connections to perform database syncs in the mornings (via hotspots inside each garage bay). Once they are all synced up and out of range of our wireless network, the wifi NIC's are no longer needed. Since the wifi NIC's and Air Cards don't get along, we have been having our users turn the NIC's off using a hardware switch on the Toughbooks cassis. However, some of our older models (CF-29's to be exact) do not have these hardware switches. Our solution was to create two batch files and place them on the users' desktops; one that turns the wifi NIC on, and one that turns it off.

This brings you up to my current problem...

Since upgrading my HP DV6T7000-CTO from Windows 7 to Win 8 and now 8.1I have had an intermittent issue where the my wifi/bluetooth adapter is detected, until a restart, and then afterwards, is no longer detected. I have a Intel centrino wireless N 2230 which is both wifi and bluetooth. I cannot connect to wifi, nor is the bluetooth detected. Additionally, the wifi-radio button on my laptop, will not turn on (red is off, white is on). Sometimes I can temporarily fix the issue by shutting down, disconnecting the adapter from my laptop, reseating it, and then rebooting. This does not always work though.

I have tried the latest drivers from Intel as well as tried removing those and just installing whatever Windows update thinks is best. I have also updated the Bios to the latest, but to no avail. I have even replaced the adapter with a new adapter but the same model and that did not fix the issue either. For that reason, I am thinking it could be a driver issue. But, I have never experienced a driver problem where something would go from working properly to not being detected at all after a reboot. Any help figuring this out would be of great help.

If it doesn't work, I'm at a loss myself.

5 Memory dumps in one day - that's a lot!

As soon as we've finished working on this, please visit the Acer website and update ALL of your drivers. Then visit Windows Update...Important Updates and download/install Service Pack 1

Let's start by removing the Audio drivers (uninstall the Audio in Control Panel). Then update the Audio drivers from here: Step5

If the BSOD's continue, then start by temporarily uninstalling ZoneAlarm. Use the Windows Firewall temporarily (just to see if ZoneAlarm is causing the BSOD's). If you need finer firewall control, try this free application: Windows7FirewallControl : Sphinx Software

Then, try to download a fresh copy of the networking drivers (both wired and wireless). These will be difficult as Acer doesn't list Win7 64 bit drivers for these devices. If you can't locate Win7 drivers, please post back and we'll see if we can find them elsewhere.

Hi, the problem I have is that every time i shutdown and power back on, my Wifi, WLAN and all the USB drivers are not working.

I found all I have to do is disable and then enable the Wifi / WLAN drivers in device manager, to start them working. And I found that If I uninstall all the USB devices in device manager they then reinstall automatically.

But then when I reboot then they are not working again.

I tried a system restore to when the drivers were working but they don't change.

I have downloaded the latest drivers from Intel's website, and tried DriverMax which says the drivers are the latest version.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on a Dell Studio 1555. The Wifi / WLAN drivers are Intel.

I've tried searching on google but I haven't come across anyone with this problem. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

When I continuously use my laptop for 50-60 mins then my wifi network starts showing limited connection and I have to re-start it to get it fixed. I don't understand if problem is with wifi (hardware) or software issues.

Hey all,

Happy holidays!

I don't know what has triggered my PC to do this but it's driving me up the walls.

After every reboot or a fresh start, my Win8.1 PC always has its WiFi disconnected. It then takes me 2-3 tries to connect to my home WiFi as it returns a simple "couldn't connect to network" error message. I tried re-installing the drivers but that hasn't helped.

The last software that could have triggered is my VPN software. But the problem started to happen a few days AFTER I installed the VPN. The problem doesn't go away even if I disable the VPN's TAP driver. I cannot uninstall my VPN as I need it almost daily.

I hope there is a solution to it. It's so frustrating.

Hi mufaa,
It may be a problem from your WiFi driver can you go to Device Manager then check if your WiFi driver is up to date?

I've wasted SO many hours on this this week. Staying in a hotel in Europe with only wired Wifi. I was able to create a Virtual hotspot one night, but then I restarted my computer and I can't get it to work again.

Here is what I did:

1) made sure no other virtual Network adaptor programs were running (I had Hamachi LogMeIn on this laptop too. I exited it and killed the process). Also made sure I wasn't currently connected to wifi occupying the adaptor.
2) Download and install Virtual Router Manager 1.0 from
3) Run it and tell it to set up a virtual network with the name [SSID NAME] and password [password]
(this app basically just automates the Windows Shell commands that creates a virtual network adaptor).
4) Right click on the Ethernet adaptor that has the working net connection and choose Properties -> Sharing and tell it to use the Virtual Network Wireless adaptor created in step #3
5) Right click on The Virtual network adaptor created in step #3 and UN-check support for IpV6. This handy tip got it to work in the first place.

So it worked ONE night. ? But I?ve repeated this steps 5 times now, and NOTHING. It doesn?t even create the wireless network for others to see. I?ve rebooted a few times too.

See this screenshot of what my adaptors look like:

I'm so upset with this I'm actually considering walking down the street and BUYING a damn router. Also, mocking me is all the MacBook pro wifi hotspots I can see ot... Read more

A:Trouble creating wifi Hotspot. worked, now fails on reboot

UPDATE: I just turned on my phone and it was connected...for like 3 seconds at full strength. Then the wireless network vanished. It seems the laptop creates the network in bursts for a few seconds every few minutes or so). Any ideas why that might be?

I have an Insignia 8" tablet that I use to listen to an internet radio station. WiFi connection to my 2Wire 3801HGV router. I have it powered by the AC charger. I have the display to turn off after 5 minutes, never to go into sleep mode when powered by AC. After the 5 minutes the display is turned off, the music continues as expected and will continue for hours. But if I try to do anything I loose my WiFi.
Right after the screen is shut off I can enable it again with a stroke. Then the music stops. I no longer have internet access.
Network settings says I still am connected but somewhere the connection is broken. I disconnect from my router and then try to reconnect and it will not. I get, Checking Network Requirements, Can't connect to this Network. The only way I have been able to get connected is to do a restart.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem? I have not found any settings that have been useful. All it should be doing is shutting off the screen. Not go into any other sleep or power down state.

Hi Rudy,
Welcome to the forums, go to Device manager, expand Network adapters, right click Wi-Fi, Properties, go to Power management tab, untick "Allow the computer to turn off......" and reboot, HTH.

I've recently installed a wireless lan in my office. I have Roadrunner cable coming into their router which in turn is attached to a Linksys router. I have one desktop (Dell) running XP Pro hardwire to the router. I also have a laptop and another desktop connected via wireless. I've seen all over the place that you should not enable file sharing. So, how do you allow acces from one computer to another. I've set them all up on the same workgroup.....what am I missing? I've been able to send print from the wireless laptop to the printer attached to the wireless desktop. It's just the folders I'm having problems accessing.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

A:To enable or not to enable (file sharing that is)

Where exactly have "I've seen all over the place that you should not enable file sharing".

If you don't that is fine. But then you can't share files. Just a choice to make.

With a router you should be reasonably protected.
