hi everyone, I have a hp Pavilion dm4-3011Tx with beats which is about 7 months old. Yesterday I woke it up from sleep and the keyboard lit up and the caps lock light would blink twice every few seconds. I held the power button down and rebooted it and when it started up the fans were running and the light was still blinking. I tried a hard reset and everything and several hours later it started again randomly...A short while later it happened again and this time I was unable to fix the problem. I have already read that it a Bios corruption but I don't know what that means. Can anyone help? Thanks. I have already tried doing a hard reset, taking the battery and the plug out, pressing the windows key and b while turning it on. Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

A:Caps Lock Light Blinking Twice

Your keyboard seems to be damaged. Get it replaced, you're still in warranty I guess.

My fiancée's HP G62 laptop suddenly stopped booting. More specifically, when you press the power button, the power light comes on, but the screen stays totally black. I tried doing a hard reset on it (unplug, remove the battery, and hold power button down for 60 seconds), but that didn't work.  I tried this multiple times with no success. I shined a flashlight on the screen to see if there was a faint image (indicating a backlight problem), but there is no image at all. I tried connecting the computer to an external monitor, and that didn't work either.   Recently I had to replace the fan and the power button assembly on this machine, but it was working fine after that until now.

But now it's not working on line I found this out about the blinking lights, There is a list of 7 things it could be.... Cpu Failure, Bios Failure, General Board System Failure..

Hello!! I have a HP Pavilion dv9000 Notebook PC. It's a Windows Vista (Service pack 1)....Well my question is, My Caps light isn't turning on. The Caps Lock button works, Just the light by it won't come on & I have no clue why?

Also I have Dial up (Sucks, I know) I've been able to dial up & get a connection but the little computer/network thing at the bottom on my taskbar, still has the red x on it. When I right click it to maybe turn the animation on & they are on...I think at least because it saids "Turn Off Activity Animation" & "Turn Off Notification of New Networks" so it is on but it's still has the Red X on the little computer icon thing in the taskbar. I know I am online, I just want to see it on that little icon

Anyways I would appreciate any help. Thank You!!!

The other day I decided to turn my envy off for the first time in roughly a week. I usually just leave it on, plugged into the charger, putting it into sleep mode when im not using it. For some reason, ever since then I have not been able to turn it back on. Whenever I press the power button, The power light blinks. The pattern is a single short blink every 3-5 seconds. This continues until I take the battery out. Sometimes, if I leave it be for a day or so, I am able to get the computer to turn on, but It will not boot. I can hear the fan going, see the lights turn on as they are supposed to, however the screen remains black. I am under the impression that this either a hardware issue, or the CPU is just toast. either of which would suck. Normally I would take to a computer shop and have them look at it, but right now I'm serving in Iraq, so im SOL. And yes, I have tried everything under the sun to get it running. I have taken the battery out and left it out for an extended period, tried turning it on with and without the ac adapter plugged in, tried to perform a hard reset, and a combination of all of them.

Hi everyone, I need your help urgently!

I have sony Vaio laptop which has been working well. Recently its charger had a minor explosion and broke (it happened when I plug it in to the outlet as usual). So I replaced it with a new one. However, the light on the new charger was blinking whenever I plug it into the laptop and turned solid again when I unplug it.

Could you please help me fix this? All my assignments and works are in this laptop and I need it very soon.

Thank you

Ps. I have tried removing the battery and it still doesn't work. Also I won't be able to try another charger.

I have an HP desktop. I accidentally hit the standby button on the keyboard. It started to put my computer into standby but seems to have completely powered it down. I couldn't turn it back on at all. I've tried hitting the power button and unplugging the computer. Nothing works. There is a green light near the power cord in the back blinking and that's it. I've tried unplugging all peripherals before plugging the power back in. I've also tried unplugging it and pressing the power button a few times before plugging it back in. I just can't get it to turn back on.

Hi all,
I got my new XPS 15 9550 2 days ago. Everything went fine at first but tonight when coming back home the laptop won't turn on. I tried the following (both with AC adaptor plugged in or not)
If I press power button the battery status lights blinks 4 times white and é times orange repeatedly.
I tried pressing power button for one minute - nothing.
Pressing Fn key and power button - then the keyboard lights turn on  for about 5 seconds then turn off, and same blinking of the battery status lights as described above.
Any idea what to do ? Dell technical support doesn't seem to work on week end...
Thanks

We got a Compaq Presario S6500NX from a friend who had upgraded to another computer and we can't get it to work. It ran fine before he brought it to us, however, once we got it here and tried to power it up it wouldn't start at all.

On the power supply in the back the green light blinks and clicks rapidly when the cord is plugged in, and pressing the power button does nothing at all.

Interestingly, a few minutes ago I took it out of storage, (we got the computer months ago and gave up when we couldn't get it running) plugged it in by itself and it powered up just fine, the fan turned on and everything! So I opened it up and cleaned out some of the dust (I didn't have it plugged into a monitor or anything, I just wanted to see if it was still doing the same thing it had months ago) and, lo and behold, when I tried to turn it on again with everything plugged in, I got the blinking/clicking green light and no power up.

What could be the problem here? I know the whole thing isn't totally shot because it DID power up just fine a few minutes ago. But now we're back to the blinking clicking light (instead of the steady green glow that usually happens when the power supply cord is plugged in). It leads me to believe that something's loose, but I don't dare mess with the power supply box unless I know what I'm doing...

Another question is, if the power supply isn't fixable, would it be possible to replace it with the power supply ... Read more

First of all thank you for trying to help!
My pc is rather new (3 months) and hasent been causing any problems untill now. In the last couple of days, i've noticed an odd increase in the hdd led activety. after reading up on the web, i figured this was probably due to vista background stuff. However, the problem got worse- to the point where the os couldent start after restarting. (it would start up fine from the cd drive). after a few restarts it managed to start up, and since then the pc is super slow, with hdd led always flashing.
this happend around the same time i downloaded and installed vista SP1.
I checked the sata connection to the hdd, but it didnt help.

i guess my question is this- is it hardware for sure, or could it be software? i can format if it's software, just wondering if i should. maybe the hdd is just dead...

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi,
I have a document which has hundreds of words in ALL CAPS (amongst other words that I wish to leave), which I want to turn to lower caps italics. Here's my macro so far:

Selection.Find.ClearFormatting
Selection.Find.Replacement.ClearFormatting
With Selection.Find
.Font.BOLD = False
.Font.Size = 12
.Text = " [A-Z][A-Z]{1,14}"
.Replacement.Text = "^&"
.Replacement.Font.Italic = True
.Replacement.Text.Case= wdLowerCase
.Forward = True
.Wrap = wdFindContinue
.Format = True
.MatchCase = False
.MatchWholeWord = False
.MatchAllWordForms = False
.MatchSoundsLike = False
.MatchWildcards = True
End With
Selection.Find.Execute Replace:=wdReplaceAll

I want it to ignore Bold headings, hence the fontsize 12 and BOLD commands early on in the macro.

I'm stuck on the line in red - keep getting invalid message. How do I turn replacement text to lower caps? Can't work it out.

I'm already aware of how to toggle caps on off etc with F3. But I need to run this for hundreds of words, hence why I wish to create a macro. Anyone know how to change replacement text case?

Thanks in advance.
Derrick

A:Word Macro to turn all caps into lower caps

I don't think you can do a "replace all" in this particular situation. The code would need to be modified to search for each instance of Caps one at a time using a loop and do the changes to each one separate. I can help with the coding but I can tell you right now it won't run very efficiently especially considering the number of instances you say there could be.

Hi. Tonight I had a problem with my laptop. It was in sleeping mode, and when I open the lid there were no mouse function and no touch screen function. So the only thing I could do was to press the power button for 3 seconds to turn it off, but it didn't completely, because the screen turn off, but the power button light is blinking just like when it is on sleep mode, and I'm not sure if the hard drive light was on, off or blinking before this, but now is blinking. I press the power button and nothing happen, I press it for 3 seconds and nothing happen. I even did the HDMI connection to another monitor, but both monitors don't show anything, not even recognize that something is connected to the HDMI port in the new monitor. There is no sound, nothing, just the 2 blinking lights. What should I do? Thanks PS: I'm not sure if it's Windows 10 32-bit or 64-bit. It was upgraded from Windows 8

Hello,i have problem with my EliteBook 8560w(With dual boot Windows 7 64bit and Linux Mint 17.3 if its important). When I plug it in AC charger it turns on by itself and after 2-3 sec. it shutsdown without warning. After shutting down the laptop can't be turned on using the power button. This occurs everytime I plug it in the charger. I get the same problem when I place the battery. I tryed the following: removing RAM, removing HDD, removing BIOS battery. Everytime the laptop turns on itself immediately when plugged in then shuts down after 2-3 sec. Its not heating problem either, because fan check is passing and I have recently replaced heatsink paste.When I plugged off the power button from the motherboard, the laptop stopped turning on when pluged in, but there is no way I can turn it on. Any suggestions what can be the cause of the problem and what solution can I try? Edit: When the laptop starts I get 2 blinks on Caps Lock(white) and 1 blink on Num Lock(white) then laptop shuts down and Caps Lock is glowing.I found out that 2 blinks on Caps/Num lock are for BIOS problem, but I can't start recovery from USB, because the machine shuts down. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

I've a customized Pavilion G6, and recently caps lock has started blinking, like, it blinks for 2 or 3 minutes, then it goes back to normal. I googled about it and found some guys had problems like their CPU being damaged, their BIOS being corrupted or something about memory buffers... Well, I'm able to use my laptop, no blank screen or whatsoever.So, my questions are, why do I get this blinking from caps lock? Should I be worried? And what can I do to make it back to normal?

A:Caps Lock keeps blinking...

Hello,

I see that you're having an issue with the caps light blinking 2 times. This means the memory is going bad. I would suggest reseating the memory. If reseating the memory does not resolve the problem, try replacing the memory with new memory.

If you do not feel comfortable reseating the memory yourself, take the computer to a computer retailer and ask them to reseat it for you.

Here is a document showing you how to reseat the memory.

Shown here this is the chart showing you the cause of the blinking.

You can also follow this document telling you what the cause for every possible issue you have with the caps lock blinking.

My mother's HP G62 laptop won't boot up. The screen stays at an off stage while the caps lock blinks once every 2 seconds. So it will blink and stay on for one second, then stop for two seconds, blink for one second, stop for two and so on; and it just keeps doing this non stop. I googled before posting anything here and tried several things. I tried the "hard reset" where you hold the power button down for 30 sec. without the battery or power cord connected and then try to boot up, I tried plugging in an external monitor before trying to boot, I swapped in another hard drive, I swapped around the memory and all these didn't work.

I searched online and found this link ( http://support.hp.com/us-en/product...ries/5082224/model/5149093/document/c01732674 ). How many times the caps lock blinks can be a code to determine what is actually wrong with it. So since it was blinking once, that tells me it is my processor, so I ordered one from amazon that was "new" and put it in, and was very saddened to see that it still had the same problem . I suppose it could be a faulty processor that was sent to me, but that just doesn't seem likely.

So since this site always gives me great ideas and many times fixes my problem with awesome feedback, I decided to post this! Thanks for any help or advice.

Hello, Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum. I am afraid this issue cannot be resolved remotely and it is a bit difficult to understand and know in details what exactly you removed/replaced. Since it started to occur after this change obvious this is the cause. Please, review these artciles :>> http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c01732674>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01732674and follow the appropriate instruction for your specific situation.  If they don't help, you can consult with HP Service center or bring the computer to HP authorized service center where the technicians will probably be able to help you solve the problem. If you cannot find a troubleshooting solution, contact HP Customer support for further assistance or to have the computer serviced. I put my computer to sleep last night and when I went to turn it on this morning it started to power but nothing happened.  The screen is black and the lights for caps and number lock are blinking.  They blink continuously with 4-seconds in between.  I've tried a hard restart, as well as removing the RAM and wireless card (per other posts for similar problems).  Does anyone have any idea what I should do next?  I'm a graduate student and hate to admit it but I can't be without a computer for very long :/

My computer turns on but instantly goes to black screen and the caps lock starts blinking and wifi stays at steady amber. The caps lock doesn't blink in any pattern it just constantly blinks with 1 second gaps and seems like it wont ever stop blinking. Ive tried holding the power button on without the battery but that didn't work and ive tried to turn on using only power no battery but that didn't help. Im not sure what the issue is.

Hi, Caps Lock blinking 5 times could indicate a hardware failure..possibly motherboard. Here is the link that will tell you about the blink codes..You can try the first step from the link below (hard reset) and check if it helps.. If it continues then may require some hardware replacement.. Troubleshooting LED Blink Codes or Beep Codes During Startup or Boot

A:No Caps Lock light

Do you know when this problem began? Try a System Restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem began. Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html. Be sure to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points. If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two. NOTE: You will have to re-install any software and updates you installed between now and the restore point (yes, I know, all 16 and perhaps others now as well), but you can use Windows Update for the updates. It will notice they are missing and re-install them.

The problem is that one of them may have caused the light problem. It may be best to write down the updates it wants to install (with the KB numbers) and do each individually and then reboot and make sure the light still works before moving on to the next until you find the one causing the problem. Then uninstall that one and just install all the rest but that one. Post back with KB number and name of that update and we'll look into the problem.

Or you can live without a CAPS LOCK light. As a partial workaround, Go to Start / Control Panel / Ease of Access Center / Make the keyboard easier to use and check the box for Toggle Keys. Now whenever you hit Caps Lock, Num Lock, or Scroll Lock, they system will make a sound. As you probably almost never use Scroll Lock or Num Lock, it will basically apply for Caps Lock. Thus though you may not see the light come on, you will at least hear a sound indicating ... Read more

I'm having issues with what I think I've narrowed down to my motherboard.  The laptop turns on for about two seconds, then the fan cuts off and the caps lock blinks 3 lights before pausing and doing again in a continuous loop. I've searched and found the lights to be indicative of a memory issue, so I removed and replaced the memory with other memory, taken out the wifi adapter, cleaned the ram slot as well as the wifi adapter slot, and it continues to do this. I've seen reflowing the motherboard as something fixes some people's problems, but I really want to avoid doing that because I'm not comfortable with the idea itself. Is there anything I'm missing?

A:hp 2000 2C25DX caps lock blinking 3 times

No I think you have accurately diagnosed the problem. A reflow is not likely to help although there are shops that will repair a motherboard using advanced electronics and equipment to repair chips, not reflow. Reflow is very crude and ultimately ineffective. We can also likely find you a replacement board.

My daughter has an HP Pavilion DV6, that I have fixed the symptoms of a problem but would like to get to the bottom of the cause. The problem was that it wouldn't start, when you switch on you can hear the fan, the led on the caps lock bilnks continuously, and the led on the wifi key is orange. (It is normally white when working properly.

Having trawled numerous forums including HP I could not find a resolution, many suggestions such as reset the power, clean the memory and slots etc etc, followed by loads of entries from people trying all of these without succes

I eventually came across a post that said he had fixed it by simply wrapping the laptop in a blanket, switching on, leaving for 20 minutes then switching off and on again. This post was followed by dozens of people saying this worked for them.
So, rather sceptically, I tried it and amazingly it worked. The laptop now starts every time without a problem. So aparantly problem solved.

However I would like to get to the bottom of this before it happens again. I want to find the actual reason for the failure and if necessary replace any faulty componants. I am thinking of selling the laptop but don't want to sell it to someone knowing it may fail in the near future.

My guess is that this must be heat related as wrapping in a blanket stopped the laptop cooling and it was very hot when I removed the blanket.
The laptop now starts OK regardless of the temp, I left it overnight and restarted OK.

Here's a little tutorial for all of you who have this annoying issue. It mostly applies to the 1 blink code (other codes have much simpler and straightforward solutions). Ok, so the code says that it's caused because of a not functional CPU. That is most likely not the case. Most people who had the 1 blink code actually had a problem with the integrated video graphics card or northbridge of their laptops, not the CPU (in fact, CPU failures are quite uncommon). The problem is that these chips overheat quite often, they don't have good cooling and dissipation systems (most of the time, it is shared with the CPU which is absolutely insane), and the solder connections are of very bad quality. So with overheating, solder points start fracturing or cracking and they stop making contact, which causes all these issues, including the infamous RRoD and YLoD issues in the Xbox and Playstation consoles with their soldered video chips.So there are two main ways of dealing with this: 1 - ReflowThis is a short-term but easy solution that simply consists of reheating the damaged component to the point of getting rid of said fractures. It has a high success rate, as many people will tell you. It worked for me always, but again, after some time the issue may come back. Still, this is a very simple solution that doesn't require too much skill or equipment and is satisfying enough for most users. This is what I'm going to show how to do in this tutorial. 2 - ReballReflowing doesn'... Read more

This is actually good stuff and well written but I hesitate to advise people to use either the "oven trick" or really even the heat gun method as both are notriously short-lived even if they appear effective. Your far better bet is to send the board in to one of the vendors on the internet who are set up to do a proper reball. Even those fixes are good for maybe 12-18 mos. But again, you get a high grade for spelling it out.

First of all i must thank you very much for detailing the steps required to save the laptop from powering on .

My HP DV6 laptop had the same issue one month back and i did reflow as you suggested. This costed me 15$ however the technique was successful.
3 days back the issue came back and i switched the laptop off for 2 days and tried today to boot and it worked without a reflow.
I have now followed the process power management tips advised in advanced power settings hoping that it would not occur in future.
Do you have any other suggestions that i should keep in mind during my  laptop usage which could effectively prevent this from coming back , cause the reflow is a bit expensive for this old laptop at my place .

Looking for your valuable inputs. Once again cheers for posting these many details.

A:Repairing laptops that won't boot and show the blinking caps

There were no references as the guidelines you follow that help you solve your problem. I have a similar DV6 (CPU Phenom) that last time i put it aside was working. I was going to upgrade it to windows 10 and it doesn't power up.Caps blink about 3 or 4 seconds (the codes from hp are not very clear). No numlock lights blinking just the light for the wireless. Anyway i know by the all the posts i've read you can reflow the graphics card but as far as i know this was because of NVIDIA cards. This pc has an AMD Radeon graphics and as far as my research done, no one has to do the reflow. I am thinking it is the CPU or maybe the motherboard just went bad. I have done all the resetting removing everything, change ad, memory, etc.There is power flowing thru e.g if you plug in a usb flash drive in diferent ports you can see a light. fan spins. any ideas or suggestion? a used CPU it is not that expensive but i just don't want to throw away money.So again "please" if anyone knows somethimg i maybe missed collecting please let me knowthanks

Does it have a legacy hard disk or an SSD disk? The blinking is a diagnostic code. Watch the blinks to determine where it repeats.  What is the complete product name or product number?  Look on the side of the  box it was delivered in.

Yesterday the laptop wouldn't start. Starts to power on, caps lock LED blinks repeatedly, then shuts off. I have no doubt this is a POST code, but I can't find any info from dell to determine it's meaning.

After pulling power, battery, etc. and waiting a while, we got it to boot to windows, then got a BSOD with an error message and had to turn it off. Back to the post code.

I connected the drive to my desktop and backed up all the data. Then I stripped the laptop down the system board (no obvious hardware problems detected), then tried to power up with memory and CPU only. Seems to work, tells me no HD found (as expected). I added the HD, and made it to windows startup screen, saw the desktop, then it hit a BSOD.

I tried another reboot, and went into the bios, turned on "thorough POST". On the next power cycle, no POST errors, but I hit F12 to go to Diagnostics. First time through, it hung in a memory test. Not sure that's the culprit, I rebooted and did it again. Made it through the memory test no problem, next step it loads a diagnostics GUI. Started running system board tests through the GUI, and it locked up again.

Next reboot and I'm staring at the blinking caps lock LED again, and can't get it to boot. This is with AC power, and only the keybaord, CPU, HD, and memory installed. Since then, I haven't been able to get it to boot successfully.

I am completely comfortable taking this thing apart and replacing things, but unt... Read more

This HP Laptop has not been booting properly. After some investigation, I came up across the LED blink/beep problem codes and was hoping to utilize that page. The problem is, on my laptop, the Caps Lock LED light constantly flashes and does not stop, unlike on the problem code page where it says it should stop to give me an idea of what the problem is. Additionally, the LED light on the Wireless key is a solid red color. After multiple attempts, I cannot find anything about an infinite caps lock blinking and a solid red light. I've attempted the hard reset, where I take out the battery and the AC Adapter and hold the power button down for an extended period of time. I've also reseated the RAM sticks. I've also even taken out the CMOS battery and replaced that.  If possible, could it just be a failure system board/motheboard? I've been told that if I take out the RAM and try powering on the device, the device should beep at me since it doesn't recognize any RAM, but in my case, it doesn't beep. Any other ideas?

I think you should try re-seating the keyboard's cable to the motherboard.

You would have to remove the keyboard to do it

I have looked into your issue about your Compaq Presario CQ62-209WM Notebook and issues with the flashing lights and not starting correctly. Here is a link to computer does not start. It has the LED blinking codes and suggests that it could be your System Board. Have you tried to reseat the memory and HDD? (it is in the document) Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue.Hope this helps you. Thanks.

However, after a while, I tried to re-start the computer and it worked for about 15 minutes after which the same thing happened.

Any idea what could be wrong? What is the meaning of the flashing Caps light? Thank you.

A:Red light blinking on Lap Top

You'll have to be more specific. What's the model or serial number of the Laptop? Also what does the manual say the light is for?

If the battery is dying then the laptop shouldn't run very long on battery, maybe even just a matter of minutes before it shuts down.

Hi Everyone,

I just bought a Dell Dimension E521 with Windows XP Home Edition OS. I have noticed that the light indicating the hard drive is being accessed blinks all the time. My old HP ( Win 98) didn't do this. Is this an XP thing or is there a problem? I have Norton security suite installed and use Adaware And Spy Bot. No viruses shown.

Thanks
Jerry

A:Blinking Hd Light

The blinking LED is indicating that it is constantly working. Norton security suite is what we call a resource hogger meaning it is taking the speed out of your computer. What you could is is download process explorer from the freeware link in my sig and try to determine what is keeping your PC busy.

Are you using P2P applications like Limewire?

Just recently purchase a Dell 1535 laptop with Vista. It runs great and the cpu usage is very low but I've noticed that the hard drive light is constantly blinking. I've read on some other forums about this problem and some say the cause is Vista doing its superfetch process. Is this the case? and does this blinking ever go away?

thank you

all i did was put in a new cd/rw i plugged the computer back up and now i get a blinking cursor. i can load from my a:drive.

at first it said no operating system found on any device. soooo i was thinking maybe the hard drive was bad. i unhooked the hard drive and hooked it up to another computer and it worked fine. So fine that I installed XP on it (figuring i would do this while I had it out and it was working) I hooked everything back up I can hear it trying to load then it stop. and it comes down to a blinking cursor.

By the way to add to this I wanted to make sure the new cd wasn't bad I hooked the old one up and got the same message. then i hooked the new one back up and the computer said to boot from the cd press any key. funny thing I hit any key and nothing happens but that darn blinking cursor!

Please someone anyone help meeeeeeeee!

If I'm following you right........You had XP installed on your hard drive while it "was out" of your machine?
This is most likely your problem. XP does an "inventory" of installed hardware on the machine it is being installed onto.
You have most likely wasted your time with that.
Was the drive formatted an "clean installed"?
If so you have lost everything anyway..........So

You'll have to start over.
Do you have the XP CD?
