Y510P Keyboard Chip not working

Q: Y510P Keyboard Chip not working

Hello, I bought a Y510P (SLI version) 2,5 years ago (yes, warranty is now expired) and my keyboard stopped working. Two rows of the keyboard didn't respond and after resetting and updating my laptop, contacting lenovo and I had to reset and update another time the problem was still there. Lenovo recommended a repair for my laptop. I declined it because I wanted to see if there were faster/cheaper/better options near my location. Next I searched for a local fast and cheap repair center to repair my laptop because my warranty was over so I had to pay anyway. I found one, send my laptop and a while later they told me it was the keyboard controller chip on the motherboard that was faulty. To repair that they had to replace the whole motherboard. Cost? Around 60% of my original purchase price. Way to much for a student. Went to Lenovo again with this information but of course they couldn't tell me more without a diagnose from their own but I don't want to spend another ?50 on a diagnose. This joke costs me a lot for just the diagnose, let alone the repair. So my question, does anyone know something about these laptops and do you know if it could be this chip and can it be repaired/replaced instead of a whole motherboard? And, does anybody has experience with the cost of replacing a motherboard with Lenovo? Price in the Lenovo shop for a laptop is just over ?300,- and I don't want to get another offer to repair my laptop voor ?700. It's sad that a laptop that has never fallen, has no damage, no shock damage or whatever still won't last 2,5 years. For such a price I seriously expect more. If I buy a new laptop for the repairprice alone I can almost buy a laptop that has around the same specs today. I'm really considering that... Thanks for your time, appreciate your input. Pascal

Hi all,

Last night, my keyboard suddenly decided it didn't want to work. The following keys rarely work (occasionally after hitting them a gazillion times): 0 (wow it worked just now), p (using on screen keyboard, now 0 is not working so I need onscreen to close these parentheses), colon/semicolon key, and slash/question mark key.

I really hoe this is not a hardware issue as this comuter isnt even 2 years old yet, and having a functioning keyboard is kind of essential. Esecially when some of the affected keys are in your assword... Not sure if the 4 affected keys are connected hysically and thats why theyre acting u together, or if this could have something to do with the fact that the issues arose immediately after some Windows udates.

I would immensely areciate any hel ! Thank you!

A:y510p - keyboard problem

Hi Imjustaguy ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Better to isolate hardware issue from software is to make the computer boot on a rescue media and try typing from it . Using an external USB keyboard and onscreen keyboard further isolate probability of a bad keyboard specially if same thing fails in BIOS (like test typing the affected letter in security password  but NOT to save it , for testing only) .

Update us how it goes.

Regards

Hi I just did a clean Windows 10 install and I cannot get the hdmi (or the vga) output to work. I get no signal. I have the single Nvidia version.  I tried as many drivers I could find for the Intel and Nvidia graphics but no success at all.  Hard disk was replaced so I don't have the recovery partition and I don't have the recovery dvd set either. Would anyone that has hdmi output working on windows 10 please tell me what drivers are using?  Thanks

Hi,  Just before im losing my mind i turn to you guys for help! A back story about the recent events that got me to the problem:My Lenovo Y510P crashed (couldnt boot to windows) a month ago and  needed an HDD replacment according to the tech lab (he is still under warranty). They replaced the HDD and installed  the Windows 8 (i had 10 before the crash) from the hidden parttition, when i got my laptop back, i updated to Windows 10 but it crashed on boot screen (just like it did before the HDD got replaced).I sent it back to the lab, this time they just restored it to Windows 8.I tried to update it to 10 and it got stuck on boot again. My laptop went back and forth 3 times like this until they just sent me the laptop with Windows 10 on it. They deleted my hidden parttition and my SSD (24GB) with the laptop backup data so now i cant restore or format and i dont have any drivers or configurations on the Windows 10.  So heres the problem- It works a lot slower then it used to! it also take 3 times more to boot!i tried to get all the drivers and searched for BIOS configurations and i found that im missing a progrem called ExpressCache.I downloaded it but i don't think it made a diffrence. Is ExpressCache my solution? Maybe i need to configure it?Here is a screenshot with some details of my ExpressCacheHelp me please! i can send it to the lab again but they will just format it...Thanks!  ?

Hello!

I want to know how to identify if the second graphics card is working on my Lenovo Y510P.

Each time a turn on something resource intensive, my left gpu is working like crazy with all the heat coming out, and the one on the right seems like not spinning, or spinning but very slowly, and almost no heat is coming out.

Is it supposed to be like that?

Also, can't find Energy Management option to use 'Dust removal' feature.

I'm using Lenovo Y510P 750 SLI on Windows 10.

Cheers,
N

PS. I also want to mention that in NVIDIA Control Panel "SLI Configuration is set tp Maximize 3D Performance" and PhysX settings to Auto-Select.

A:Y510p - Identify if both fans are working

Correct me if I'm wrong but, I dont think GPU's spin, are you referring to the fan? If so, then one fan is for the CPU while the other is for the GPU, Intel GPU is integrated in the CPU while the dedicated GPU has its own fan.

So, I just noticed this and it has been going on for quite a while I think, the fan on the right side of my laptop is not working. My laptop is an ideapad y510p. The fan not working causes my gpu to go upwards of 75c and I have no clue how to cool it down or make the fan even work in the first place. Any help would be appreciated

Just realized my dvd drive does not play DVDs since I upgraded to win 10. It doesn't even recognize dvds, showing me only a desktop.ini file instead. It plays CDs just fine and it burns DVDs as storage device, though it **may** only be burning them as a CD, haven't really tested it. I would like to get an updated driver from lenovo, but I can't get past the Q&A session, it either doesn't know my laptop or thinks I'm running win 8.1 or 7. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

My wife has a twin graphics laptop. With Intel on the mother board and a Nvdia second one. A desktop monitor is used via a Docking Station ACP70EU After the W10 update only the Intell chip is working through the Docker when the laptop screen is off but the desk top one is being used. As far as I know both used to work as some of the graphics programs are setup to use it, They are running but using the Intel one, I expect they are also not using the graphics memory either!
If other display setups having the laptop screen running all?s OK and the Nvidia card is running.
Is there anything we can do are we stuck with it disabled with just the desk top screen working?

I have been having serious issues with the 750M (non-SLI) on this laptop. It will not work at all. I have noticed this issue on both Windows 8.1 (factory image) and Windows 7 (fresh install). Device manager lists it as saying: Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43). Disabling and re-enabling the device makes the screen flicker and nothing else. I have tried various driver version configurations (with a driver sweeper run each time) and NOTHING will get it to work on either OS so I am beginning to be convinced that this laptop is a POS and has had the 750M video card die. Attempting to play games clearly illustrates that the intel GPU is being used instead as there is very low FPS.DXDiag will not show the video card even if I disable the intel GPU.GPU-Z shows the video card, but you cant see anything about frequencies or fillrates, bandwidth, sensors etc.

Still nothing... Gonna send it back soon demanding a new one. In the meantime I must reccommend that people do not purchase the Y510p.

I recently updated my Lenono Ideapad Y510P to Windows 10, and after a couple of weeks, I started having this wierd problem with my sound. For some reasons, I always had 2 sound outputs, 1 actually being my speaker, and the other being a random "fictional" speaker. However the fictional speaker was set as default to play some of programs, for an example Counter Strike, which resulted in me not being able to hear what was going on in CS. I tried to deactive the "fictional" speaker in the playback options, but for some reason I couldn't deactive it .. So of course, I uninstalled my drivers, and tried reinstalling. However, my big problem now is, I can't install the driver again. I tried both downloading the driver from your website, downloading the Realtek Audio Driver specifically for my computer (however it was for Windows 8.1, no newer version), and I tried downloading the driver from Realteks own website for Windows 10. Both did in fact start the installation, but after saying "You need to restart in order for the driver to work (or something like that)", nothing happened. I didn't have the driver, nor the Realtek program and worst of all, my sound still isen't working .. Is this a virus, or am I just missing something really important? I hope someone's able to help me! And i hope I posted this in the right forum, if not, someone please move it to the right one

My 2 TB HDD Seagate Barracuda LP ST32000542AS went dead a while ago, my windows froze and the HDD was never recognized again by windows! What did I do, I got another one with the same chip and I traded chips with my HDD, it doesn't even gets recognized by the motherboard, but it does with the original chip, I then tried a backup utility called Acronis true image 2010, I manage to get some files out of it but, the process in question takes ages to work, but I'm pretty confident I can backup the entire HDD... but would take about a month by the looks of it

So if anyone with more knowledge than me on the subject could help me out I'll be more than grateful, any ideas will be helping me, why it doesn't work with the other chip? Why did it die? I really don't know what is going on, but I sure can use the help, the HDD is about 1.3TB filled and I manage to get about 200MB thus far and 3 files were corrupted (I don't mind) all the rest was intact and working (video and audio and even software), please help I don't know what to do and I don't have 2grand to pay for the professionals of this area, when the HDD died it was only 2 months old, but since it was filled and I had no backup (not doing that again) I couldn't use the warranty or I'd just loose all my files

I'm using the CD ISO file created with Acronis true image 2010, so the HDD is recognized via DOS and the Mother board also recognize it, once I get into windows it install and it only vanishes when I try to access it, ... Read more

I know you might need some technical info about the laptop so what should I post that might help to see if it is something that might make it a better performing machine? I'm not really looking to get a new laptop since I have one from my company, but the personal one is just slow and lags. As I wrote in the title, my Shift and Alt keys stopped working for keyboard shortcuts. However, the Shift key still works when capitalizing letters.

I've been dealing with this problem off/on for the past two weeks and haven't been able to figure it out. I've gone into Ease of Access features and turned on/off all of the available options (Mouse Keys, Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys). I've pressed Shift for 8 seconds, and pressed it 5 times, and still haven't been able to correct it.

Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Possibly helpful additional information:
I've got a Spanish/Latin American keyboard layout installed in addition to the US English keyboard layout. I toggle back and forth with Left Alt + Shift (which is how I noticed my Shift key stopped working).
I play a game whose controls rely on a lot of Shift key pressing and holding.

When was the last time you used a can of air cleaner on the keyboard? If it isn't from contact wear often keyboards tend to get loaded up with dust and debris!

One example of that is having any snacks onhand around a pc where little bits get passed along from your fingers onto and under the keys themselves. Keyboards are known to get loaded up fast with any foods present!

A:Keyboard stops working - USB external keyboard is fine

Hello Nysoh

On this virtual way nobody can say for sure what the problem is but if the internal keyboard is not working properly first step is keyboard replacement. If the problem still persists then troublemaker can be keyboard port or keyboard controller.

As far as I know BIOS has nothing to do with this issue.

My husbands ASUS touch screen laptop-keyboards are not working. I know it has windows 8. Core i3 intel inside. Like I said it is a touchscreen and neither the hardware keyboard or touch screen keyboard will do any thing (well it is like the computer understands i am doing something with the keyboard, but not typing. Ex. i will type and the curser line will do nothing but suddenly go like an italicized line. The mouse works and the touch screen works but I cannot type anything. I have wiggled the keys thinking maybe something is stuck but no help. also I have restored it to its factory settings thinking maybe he accidentally set some keyboard sleep command or something. We are both not smart at this, and again it is not my computer, he has it for work, so who knows what he did to it. But yeah, after restore it still wouldn't work and now I am stuck at the registration "getting started" windows and I cannot bypass them....or don't know how to without being about to type. The last it worked he said he cleaned it with pressurized air, so I don't know if that was too much for the keys...if he actually blew dirt into it, or what strange thing could have happened...but the fact that both touch screen and actual keyboard aren't working I am left stumped. I hope I gave enough information on the computer. It has that surface windows...he normally just uses the desk top mode. Ok thank you for any advice.

I had a problem with my laptop which is certain key on my keyboard is not functioning. The weird is, it happened without a reason. because after I shutdown doing my work when I turn it on again, I discovered my "s", "d", "g", "h", "\", "m", " left shift", "caps lock" and "~" key did not work at all. I try taking the key off, cleaning underneath, but nothing seems to be working. After that I try to use usb keyboard and it seems the key can be entered. So I thought my hardware is the problem. than I replace into the new one, but still having the same problem. I already waste my money buying new keyboard. Does any one happen to know what sort of problem this is and how I would go about fixing it? Is it related to the registry. My laptop is Acer aspire 4740G, ram 4GB, processor i3 2.4GHz. Since you've only tried one new keyboard, it cannot be ruled out that you had the bad luck to get a faulty one.

Just sharing...My keyboard stopped working one day. It sometimes worked when I started the computer but stopped working after that. I followed instructions, and updated the drivers to no avail. On youtube I saw a few video regarding problems with windows 10 and the keyboard not working. I had installed windows 10 about a month before my keyboard stopped working. The video states you must go to the settings, ease of access, and keyboard.  Within keyboard you just change the various switches as instructed. I restarted my computer and to my amazement it worked. I'm just putting it out there should anyone be facing the same problem.

Hey guys, i'm stumped.

Laptop Info:
Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7283
Windows 8.1

Track pad doesn't work. All started randomly one day when I started the laptop up. Just didn't work. Now the keyboard will stop  working after about 10 minutes.
Things I've tried:
FN Key  + F5 (enable/disable trackpad)
Double tapping the top left corner of track pad.
Uninstalled all trackpad drivers, restarted, let windows install drivers.
Uninstalled all trackpad drivers, restarted, installed Toshiba Drivers
Checked BIOS for disabled Trackpad.
Lastly, reinstalled windows 8.

I got nothing. I'm stuck.
Any suggestions?

Hi, I updated my Synapse software (Razer) and suddenly my BlackWidow mechanical keyboard isn't working fully. The F keys are not working correctly the F10 mutes and F11/12 turn the volume up and down (almost like it's a laptop keyboard). The Windows key has swapped with the ALT key and also the hash key isn't working.

I'm not sure what else to do, I uninstalled Synapse, reinstalled, updated it, removed it, unplugged the keyboard etc.

Any help appreciated

A:Some Keyboard keys not working / working incorrectly

You might try System Restore back to the day before you first updated the software. I would also try the keyboard on another computer to make sure the keyboard is okay. And while at it, try the other keyboard on your system.

Before this round of trouble I discovered a problem with one of my graphics cards when they were in SLI with Blue screens and other nasty little things occuring when running Windows; I removed my secondary graphics card from the system to see if I could get a more stable OS, which I did.

I decided to test to see if the other graphics card running on it's own would lead to a stable system, however I was getting zeros on the VGA BIOS bootup screen and other problems before I even reached Windows Vista.

I did sucessfully boot into Vista and enter my password (using the keyboard) and move the mouse around, however once I had logged into my profile Vista began asking me if I wanted to install the drivers for the keyboard and mouse, I selected to update from the Internet and when Vista did not find any drivers for either device it disabled them.
Eventually I got both the keyboard and mouse functioning again by reinstalling Intellipoint pro and the Logitech setpoint.

While using the second graphics card I noted some distortions such as zeros appearing on the VGA BIOS screen during boot up, so I decided to switch out the graphics cards again, again this caused Vista to forget about my keyboard and mouse, I am however able to get onto Vista a combination of a cheap usb mouse I had laying around and the Vista on screen keyboard.

The fix I used previously (reinstalling of Intellipoint and Setpoint) has not works,I have also attempted to manually install the drivers through dev... Read more

Is it possible to overclock the GPU and CPU a lil' bit in my y510p ?? If yes, could you please tell me how much can i boost it up and if it's worth it though...?

Solved!

A:Overclocking GPU and CPU in y510p

If you use the Intel Xtreme Tuning utility you can adjust the multipliers but that is all. The CPU already runs way to hot (and throttles as a result) so overclocking it will only make it worse. I did the opposite and undervolted mine so not only does it run cooler but it doesn't throttle anymore so it actually runs faster then a stock one.

I installed Windows 10 last year and had to uninstall it due to wi-fi connectivity dropping.   Searching the internet, this seemed to be a frequent problem and Lenova did not support Windows 10 for the Y510P and did not provide drivers. I really liked windows 10 and would love to go back to it.    Is anyone running it, and how did you resolve the wi-fi connectivity issue?    I see on the Lenova Website they still don't list Windows 10 for this model.    Too bad.  Makes me really dislike Lenova products when they don't support OS upgrades.

They said that i need to send my computer back to warranty, for another 1.5 month journey (what is over what they promised, they said 10-15 workdays)  PLEASE HELP ME! anything but not another warranty trip! A:Keyboard Not Working

Assuming that you are not getting any start up errors/beeps and you can get to desktop, it sounds like drivers are at fault....?

Sequence I'd follow would be

1. swap usb slots for mouse and keyboard (to ensure usb working okay)
2. If same as before....using mouse ...Right Click My Computer and select properties.
Choose Hardware tab and then Device Manager. Look for keyboard under USB devices and uninstall driver. Reboot and if hardware not found on start up. Go to Control Panel and try and force issue with adding keyboard.

Hope that is of some help

Hello,

My sister recently installed updates on her laptop. Since then, we have been unable to log on. When the password box is clicked, the keyboard is not detected...or something, because no typing appears in the box. This happens even in safe mode (the enter key works in order to get to safe mode, but after that, we still can't log on)

She is running Vista SP2 or 3 (can't remember which) on an HP Pavilion dv4-1225dx Entertainment Notebook PC.

Any ideas on what to do?

I recently just got done getting rid of a virus on my computer, or at least my anti-virus is no longer picking it up, although my computer is still sharing files without my permission, but when I rebooted my computer my keyboard had stopped working. I have not spilled anything on it and when I plug in a usb keyboard that works fine.

Is it possible that there is an issue in the registry? Is it possible that a virus could delete entries for my keyboard?
It just seems like to much of a coincidence that the keyboard would stop working when my computer is having problems.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

So...I went to boot up my computer today. Everything was going fine, 'til I went to use my keyboard. It wouldn't work. So I restarted. I noticed that the number lock LED came on. After the computer loaded up, however, the light went off. I tested both of my USB ports (used my mouse to do that) and they worked just fine. The keyboard was working just fine last night.

I wanna get this fixed because using an on-screen keyboard is rather annoying.
Yay, nevermind, I don't need any help. I got it to work. :]

A:USB Keyboard isn't working...

yes onscreen keyboards are annoying, personally if it was me i would just buy a new one, but if you dont want to do that then i would first uninstal the driver for the keyboard by un plugging the keyboard and the go to the control pannel (in classic view), then go to keyboard icon, clcik the hardware tab, then clcik properties and then clcik the driver tab and then uninstal, then restart the computer and when it turns on, plug the keyboard back into the computer and it will take a few seconds to reinstall the driver, then it should work again
Hope this works for you

Can you get into your bios at all?

If so, look for and enable usb legacy support. This should allow you to use a usb keyboard.

Maybe then you can boot into safe mode if necessary.

My keyboard stopped working after a reboot yesterday. I have tried everything including consulting two experts. At the moment I am using the on screen keyboard to type this. No matter what I do, including restoring the ENTIREC drive from a full backup two days ago, Device Manager still shows a Code 32 error. I searched the HP support site and was told I could use Recovery Manager to restore the original driver or download and install the driver myself. Lo and behold, Recovery Manager is not there. Obviously it should be. Now I have read on this forum that you cannot download and reinstall Recovery Manager, you must purchase it. WHY? In any case, I did download and run the designated file, and ALL IT SAID IT DID was to "uninstall mainstream keyboard." Nothing about installing the original driver, and the keyboard, though it IS detected, still does not work and has the same error: "HID keyboard device: A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)." I am at my wits' end. I have tried 2 different keyboards, too, so it is not a hardware problem. Safe Mode doesn't help. I NEED HELP! Thank you.

Hello princeode, welcome to TSF.

Your laptop is displaying the systems of a scramble or failure. Have you spilt anything on it recently or has your laptop been dropped? For now, enable osk by:
Click Start > My Computer > C:\ > Windows > System32
Look for an executable file called OSK.
Alternatively, you can use a spare keyboard if you have one.
Also, you may want to consider, using the OSK, looking online for drivers that will update it.
You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from completing this procedure.
Open Keyboard in Control Panel.
On the Hardware tab, click Properties.
On the Driver tab, click Update Driver.
Follow the instructions that appear on your screen. You can have Windows search for the driver, or point to the driver's location yourself.
Good luck

Hi,
I'm using Windows XP Professional as my O/S. I have a peculiar problem with my keyboard ( Logitech New Touch Multimedia with DIN connector). I have created two users, both with Administrative Rights. The problem is that the keyboard is detected only in one User. If I log off that user (the one in which the K.B is detected) and login the other, the keyboard stops working and all the LED's are switched off as if the Power to the keyboard is shut down. But on logging in the previous user, the keyboard starts functioning again. I have tried changing the Keyboard.
How do I go about solving this problem?
Thanx in advance.

Right, i have tried two keyboards on my PC now and neither of them are working, the lights flash when the PC is turned on but when i press any keys theres nothing, ive been able to use the on-screen keyboard to log into windows and do bits and bobs, however i thought just reinstalling vista might be the easiest way of fixing this.

HOWEVER.....vista was preinstalled when i bought the PC and to do a clean install i have to press F8 during boot and choose the selection etc, problem is with the keyboards not working i cant press F8

Anyone got any ideas on maybe the problem with the keyboards not working / how to do a new install in this situation?

I always used a usb keyboard and mouse but now Im using that on my other computer so I tried to plug my ps/2 keyboard back in.
I know it works, and I know the ps/2 port works because the keyboard works in my bios. But when I boot to windows it doesnt work and keyboards arent listed in device manager. Microsoft answers said to change a registry value to 0 instead of 3 and it will revert to using a ps/2 keyboard instead of usb.
I did that and it still won't work and it still isn't listed in device manager.
I still use a usb mouse on the computer though and another page said that its conflicting with the keyboard. So I unplugged the mouse and rebooted. Still not working.

Hi and welcome. At the price of keyboards, almost free after rebate, you'll stress less by replacing it.

However, you can test it in dos mode. Boot to command prompt only.....do the keys work there? If not, toss it.

Have you tried going inside and cleaning with compressed air? Dont know if it would void any warranties though?

Hello,

I have cleaned my new laptop yesturday - bought it before 1 month and now the "0" on the right side of the keyboard is not working at all.

If I click 0 I get a menu like if I clicked the right click on my mouse.

Also the touch pad is not working at all.

All that happened yesterday. What can I do?

I didn't put water or something, well I'm not quite sure but I believe so!

If there anything I could do?

I turned off my laptop for few hours and it didn't work!

Thanks!

I would check and see if you hit the num lock button on your laptop while cleaning it. I would try hitting the num lock key again and see if that fixes the problem. On some keyboards you might have to press the function key as well. As for the touchpad not working, alot of laptops have a dedicated button to toggle the touchpad on or off or also sometimes it is a function key combo with another key, probably one of the function keys.

My keyboard has stopped working. It used to fail, then work after
rebooting, but now it has stopped working altogther. Just before it failed some keys would echo the wrong letters to screen, and other keys would not work. Now no keys work. I have a Cyrix M II 300 chip, and a kangte monitor, and a normal modern keyboard. It is not a keyboard problem, as I have tried swapping keyboards. Also I do not get any error messages.

I have a logitech pro keyboard compatible with Vista x64 (as it used to work earlier and confirmed by logitech site ==> http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/ke.../3560&cl=in,en)

It has now suddenly stopped working in Vista lol. When I went in Control Panel, and under keyboard section it says it couldn't load some drivers (dont exactly remember which error but it displayed Code 39 related to driver error). It had 3 drivers but 1 was unsigned.I can't do anything on Vista as the keyboard just doesn't work (I'm typing this off Ubuntu).

When I went to Logitech site for drivers it said the keyboard uses Vista's native usb drivers (but its a p/s2 keyboard). So will using Vista native usb drivers help?Where can I find them?I googled but couldn't find them.Help would be appreciated

EDIT: Now I can't even access Vista because I can't skip C: checkup which ALWAYS gets hanged at 62% (what might be the reason for this?).Ubuntu is working flawlessly.

I have a HP 255 G3 Notebook PC. I've had it since September 2k15. I'm part of the K12 program so one was sent to me, it just started today but I can't use the keyboard. The mouse pad works but that's it. Also, I keep trying to log into my wifi account but it's saying I can't use the wifi account because the settings that are saved dosent match my network.

Hi guy's,
My daughter has problem with her Acer Aspire 5100 series laptop. It powers on, shows the setup key to press for bios. but no keys on the laptop work. She then gets a message:

NTDLR missing
press Ctrl,Alt,Del to restart.

And then it starts all over again, and seems to just go round in curcles. It wont boot from a cd/dvd with OS so she can load XP Pro on a clean Hdd. But because she cant get into bios to check the boot sequence, she doesn't know if this is because the new clean drive has not been detected by bios. also F8 dont work for safe mode. in fact no keys work.

Any ideas as she has not got PS2, the USB's dont work without an OS or can they? but hers dont anyway.

So, I have always used the Vizio electronic cleaning foam stuff on my laptop, but since I just used it yesterday, my apostrophe/quotation mark key (to the left of the Enter key) does not work. I popped the key off to look at it, and there was nothing unusual underneath. I am not sure if the key simply stopped working and the timing is pure coincidence, or if it is a result of something I did?

This bothers me, as I cannot type conjunctions anymore. Granted, it makes me type a little more intelligebly (I think, lol) but I really would like to get it working again, if possible.

A:Keyboard - Key not working?

If I under stand this right, you spray this foam stuff on your keyboard, the keys them selfs? I've heard of cleaning solutions for the screens of laptops and LCD TV's but never for a keyboard. I only use compressed air to clean in between the keys and behind the keyboard and a lightly damp cloth (warm water) to physically wipe down keyboard. Anything other than that your risk killing your keyboard.

I picked up a Compaq Presario CQ56 laptop and after it runs for awhile the keyboard stops working, which shuts off the wireless also with the on/off for the wireless adapter also the F12 key. I shut it off and left it over night and it worked again after it cooled down, but it did it again after warming up. Oh the cooling fan appears to be working. Any help will be appreciated.

The keyboard on my Aspre E-13 stopped working (I had to use a USB keyboard)  I tried everything eventually resorting to a complete factory reset but even that did not work.  I then tried the Battery reset pinhole (the very small hole on the base) and that worked OK. Now working as before.
