Hi: Type any password you want 3 times, and the PC should generate a system disabled (halt) code. After you get the halt code, see the first post at the link below for how to get an unlock code to enter, so you can get access to your PC. There are also steps to clear the password. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Sy?stem-and-Recovery/System-Halt-Error-Message-or-BIO?...

You can certainly reinstall the OS. Just put the cd in the cd-rom and make sure your bios is set to boot from the cd-rom.
You could also search on Google for a utility that may help you with your problem. Search on google for offline nt password
Iam helping a disabled lady and her parapelegic son. The problem: She had a maintenance guy on her property for awhile. HE installed a boot-up username and password on HER new PC. (You know this dialog box if you ever had Win 2000) Well, now he is GONE, and she is old and CANNOT get past the user/password security when Win 2000 boots up. Im trying to help this lady. She has no DISK for Win 2000 and I can't figure out how to get PAST the God forsaken username password Dialog box. Does anyone have a solution to this??? Thank you! Christmas in California!

One of my company's clients recently asked me if I could get past the initial windows password in an older laptop for them as they'd forgotten what it was and wanted the files off the computer.
I downloaded the iso boot disk thing that I've used before to remove passwords and I put it into this old laptop and when it boots all I get is a black screen with the words ISOLINUX 3.09 2005-06-17 and nothing happens after that.
The computer is an IBM Thinkpad with a pentium II processor in it. Beyond that I know nothing about the computer.

log into safe mode and log into the administrator account. If there's no password, then it will just let you right in, or else press [enter] without typing anything in the password field and it'll log on. change the password in control panel. reboot.

So you dont have a legal license to use the operating system, nor do you have the OS to reinstall. Well I dont like doing this because it teeters on the unethical and illegal side of things.

Hello Rollerdog,
Whenever you sign out (log out) of your account and just sign back in, then it's normal for it to ask for a password since you signed out.
The only way around this would be to not have a password. This would not be possible with a Microsoft account though.
Hi, I'm having a problem with a password. I was given an old workstation computer and after setting it up I turn it on and it immediately asks for a password. Before the o/s is loaded. Right after the computer is turned on it asks fora password. What is the easiest way to bypass this password. Any ideas?
Depends. You may not be able to.
You can try clearing the cmos to see if that resets it. That is done either by moving a jumper pin on the motherboard then moving it back, or taking the small battery out of the motherboard for a minute or so, then replacing it.

Hey, I was wondering if you guys could tell me a safe way to get around a password on my fathers computer. He took a stroke 7 months ago and now he cannot remember his password. I know a little about computers but I'm pretty sure he had some important files and documents on there for work and things like that which i don't want to risk losing. The only option I can give you is...
Find the OS disc and do fresh start. restart the password. and save your work (or his) in windows.old

I just purchased a display model from Circuit city, and They forgot to remove the password. The OS is Vista home Premium, is there any way to bypass this and remove the Circuit City user. The store is closed for the night, and I would really like to get this set up tonight.
I know with any NT kernal OS all password files are stored in a file called " SAM" but vista im still reading and getting to know so not 100% sure but so a search for that file "SAM".
If it does have it you need a SAM cracker. geee i havn't had to use one in so long so not sure whats out there now, google away i guess.
Also if you have admin rights you should just be able to remove it total.

Hello,You have more than one backdoor trojan on your system as well as at least one very dangerous keylogger. These allow hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and Download and Execute filesI would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.Though the Trojans may be identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud? When Should I Format, How Should I ReinstallHowever, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so.Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.

Try going into Safe Mode and logging in with the Administrator user. It may not be password protected. Otherwise contact the person you bought the computer from. Did he tranfer the Operating system license and disks to you, if not, then you legally cannot use it.

It is running on Windows 95.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know of a way to bypass a windows 8 password yet? I'm more interested in bypassing a local password than a M$ account password. I have had people come to me with computers that they have forgotten the password before, and on XP I've had a bootable disk to remove the password. I was curious to know if there had been any information on a similar program for Windows 8.
I'm not trying to perform anything malicious or steal computers. Thanks! Brodie
Sorry, but we are unable to provide that type of information.

I'm working on a touchscreen which is having some problems with the Windows registry. The error is Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM. I'm using an external cd drive to boot into the XP Install disc so that I can use command prompt to copy the files over. The problem I'm running into is that when I try to logon to the Windows installation from the repair prompt, it asks me for a password which I do not know what it is. The customer that I' am working on this touchscreen for doesn't know what the password is either. Is there anyway I can bypass this? Such as using software that normally deletes Windows passwords? I'm not sure if those would work or not because this is the system administrator account and I also cannot even boot into Windows.

3) Anything else I can delete? I see his work name for a desktop background, but nothing is there. It looks like it is deleted. I just want to get rid of the name?

hi, is there an app that will allow me to bypass password protection for a rar archive. please bear in mind: to bypass or reveal, not to bruteforce or dictionary force, i.e., Advanced Rar Passwrod Recovery does not do the trick. Bruteforce, in my opinion, is a ver unreliable method. There must be a way of cracking the password that the archive has in it for matching purpose.

I have just recieved an Acer laptop with Windows 7 installed. The owner says it is his old laptop. He now wants to use it but has forgotten his password. He doesn't care if I erase it and reinstall or put in Windows XP. However I have put Windows 7 O/S disks in the cd and Windows Xp but it just goes to windows start and asks for the password, which I don't have.
Doesn't Windows 7 have a repair break where I can push a button to start from cd and format the old O/S?
I recently migrated to Win10 with a free upgrade from Win7. I'm the only user, and I like to power up and then find the computer ready to use when I come back to it without having to log in. When I installed Win10, without understanding why, I followed the instructions to create a Microsoft account with my full name and email. After I started using Win10, I understood that power up made me sign in with my password to microsoft.com before booting my computer--the login screen displayed my full name and email as they were registered with microsoft.com. I searched the Web for how to avoid this and followed instructions to switch to a local account. I had to create a new local account with a different user name (it said my full name was already in use), so instead of my full name I used my initials (JN). I also had to choose a password, and (fortunately) it accepted the same password as for microsoft.com. On the User Accounts window, the box about re requiring password is unchecked (see screen shot). But now, when I power up, I get a login screen that shows JN as the only user. When I press Enter, it makes me enter a username and password, and I have to overwrite the default user Owner with JN to log in. How can I bypass the login screen?
Hello jfniss,
It sounds like you already have Windows setup to automatically sign in to your Microsoft account that no longer exists which would give you this issue at sign in.
You should be able to start over in netplwiz to set Windows to automatically sign in to your "JN" account with its password to sort this.

I made a Google notebook to keep the minutes of a meeting my business partners and I held last weekend. I made them all collaborators on the notebook so they could all make any changes or annotations they felt necessary. However, when they go to access this notebook they are prompted for a password.
There is nowhere (at least that I can find) to even choose to password protect the notebook let alone change the password. I'm pretty confused as to what password the notebook could be. The only thing I can think of is that it's asking for the password to my gmail account, which I don't really want to be handing out. Any ideas on this one gang?

I got a LAPTOP computer on Monday, and I wanted to transfer the files from my older DESKTOP computer onto the new one. However, while I was out and about my cat knocked over a glass of water into the keyboard of the DESKTOP computer and now the keyboard will not work at all.
I understand this is simple to fix, buy a new keyboard, blah blah blah... However I have an important file I need off of my old computer tonight so I wanted to see if there's a way to bypass my password without having to use the keyboard. The keyboard is completely non working; When I type, the OTHER buttons on the keyboard are being pressed. Like, if I type my password 50 billion letters are popping up that AREN'T the letters being typed.
I heard there's a way to flash the cmos or something, I'm computer illiterate, but would this work for me? Or am I going to have to press some crap to get to where I need to be?
Someone help meee...
Hi Hanachan, and welcome to BleepingComputer.
If the keyboard is wet the there isn't much you can do. Have you tried taking a hair dryer to it?
If the problem is a wet keyboard clearing the CMOS isn't going to help.
Everytime I restart or turn on the computer, it immediately asks for a password. How can I bypass or find out the boot password? I can get on sometimes, so if it requires me to do something when logged in then I can do that. Parents are mean lol, help please.
I don't think we should support something that your parents don't want you to do besides it can't be done.

Is there a similar option in XP so that I don't have to input the password everytime I access a file on a LAN computer? (Really, I only have to type it everytime i restart the computer but still it'd be easier if I did'nt have to)
Thanks!

I have an old dell running XP SP1 that is being used only be two young children. Well, as children do, they got bored and proceeded to fiddle with random settings to the computer. Whether they knew that's what they were doing or not, one of them managed to change the administration username and password, or rather, create one to begin with. When I formatted the computer for the kids, I intentionally used no administration password so they could simply turn on the computer and start playing games. In any case, there is now an administrator with a name to the effect of "gajfskahajdsfh" and Surprisingly enough, the password hint wasn't all too helpful. Now I'm stuck with a guest account which has absolutely no security privileges.
What I'm looking for is a way to bypass or change the current password without having to resort to completely reformatting the drive. Despite how little there actually is to lose on that machine.
I attempted the repair windows trick with "NUSRMGR.CPL" but get an error message saying "the current user is not recognized, restart the computer and then open user accounts."
Thank you in advance.

The person who set up my computer did not provide my profile with administrator rights. There is an administrator profile that should have all the rights necessary to install programs and manage files, but I don't know the password and the person who set up the computer is MIA. Any ideas?

You shouldn't have to download anything if i remember correctly booting into safe mode in vista will give you another account called "administrator" with no password on by default. Simply log in and change the password that way.

2 more repliesI cannot open the PC (DV6 from 2010, belongs to my son) as the password has been forgotten. Can HP help me? The advice we received was to open a browser...but if we cannot open the PC, we cannot open a browser! Once the PC is open and we log on, there is no issue. I can always change the admin password... Please help! Brian Burr
Please read the following HP document. Unfortunately, we do not help with Windows passwords. Often you can have that done by a local technician or a PC\notebook shop. Call on the phone to verify that they do offer the service before taking your PC to them. It isn't very expensive and should take just a few moments. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/I-forgot-my-password-can-HP-help...
1 more repliesI had a problem with a computer virus. During the process of trying to get it removed i was into the start-up menu 'F12' and added a "system" password. I went back to remove the system password and was told to just enter blanks to remove it. i did. Now when I try to boot my PC, I still get the prompt to enter my password but it does not recogonize my password and can't boot up. I am running windows XP on a Dell dimension 8400 desktop. Any help as to how I can bypass this system password prompt will be greatly appreciated.

1 more repliesSomeone gave me this laptop as collateral for a debt, i took it, not knowing that they knew I couldnt even get in it. Please help me when I turn it onj, it goes to a blue screen and asks for Password
mmm - Whole thing sounds a little suspect... Did the person who gave you the laptop know the password; or did they "acquire it" illegally? If they know the password then ask them to login and create a full admin account for you. Then you login and delete "their" account (which you can do via an Admin level login)..
