windows vista home premium running slowly

Q: windows vista home premium running slowly

I need help with my windows vista home premium. It runs terribly.
Its slow. When I click on a program it whirrrs and whirrs.

I can't uninstall anything, it says its either already been deleted or is missing (it's not, it works, I just don't need some of these programs anymore) This happens also if I try to uninstall from Safe Mode.

It says I'm not the administrator when I try to do almost anything but I sign in as administrator. I went to a site that told me I could fix this by going to Computer/Manage/Tools/Local Groups and Users... but Local Groups and Users doesn't exist.

When I go to control panel and try to change any thing under User, nothing will open for me.
I'm not real computer saavy and every site I go to tells me to try something different and I don't know half of what they're talking about.

Is there a downloadable program that can fix these issues?

Thanks!

I have had this new laptop for about a month. It's a gaming laptop and I've had no problems until today. Startup which usually takes about 20 seconds from power on to all startup programs functional, now takes 3 minutes with desktop items taking a long time to display.

Upon completion of startup, chrome browser still takes several seconds to open when previously it was instantaneous. New webpages take 20-30 seconds to open when speedtest.net shows a download speed of 31mbps.

Simply opening a program or an Adobe document takes way too long, with the blue spinning circle icon all too present in the simplest of tasks.

I downloaded AVG Free and ran a full scan which reported clean bill of health. I then bought AVG PC Tune Up. I have cleaned the registry, defraged the registry, optimized start up and shutdown, and defraged the hard drive.

I know this is a common problem but with many different causes, which is why I thought to start a new thread. When I ran an Event Log it came up with a lot of Warnings and Critical which I know nothing about. Thanks very much, if someone could please let me know what I should do next. Really don't want to do a clean install if possible.

I attached a .txt of the event log if this helps.

Scan for both malware and spyware. For spyware use a program called superantispyware; download, install and run the program at the following link:

also; scan for malware using malwarebytes:

Also; you might want to defrag the hard drive if it has not been done in awhile: start, programs, accessories, system tools, defragmenter

I am working on my sisters compaq computer running vista home premium, they had contracted some viruses(trogans Etc.). was finally able to boot to safe mode and was able to run malware bytes anti malware program that was already installed, but was 180 days old on the definitions. tried to access the internet to update but would not access it it would only show a local connection. rebooted again to make sure i selected safe mode with networking, but still no internet. i used a jump drive on another computer and downloaded avast anti-vrus program, and was able to load it on the computer and ran the program. after running the malware bytes program it found like 10 trogans, i think. and the avast program found a couple of things as well. there were a couple of times that while trying to reboot in the normal mode, the computer would bring the normal desktop up for about 10 seconds and then it would go away and now all i get in normal mode is it gets to the welcome screen and while booting it just halts and the hard drive light stops blinking. I have tried removing the memory sticks one at a time and try to reboot and to no luck. replaced the memeory. all plugs and cables are plugged in and haven't seen any abnormalities on the motherboard. i have tried to use a start up disk from xp but that doesn't work either. I have tried multiple times to install iTunes 8 so that I can sync my iPhone. Each time It attempts installation and then at some point rolls back and gives an error message that it can not install. Try again later. I have tried Using MSCONFIG troubleshoot conflicts in Windows Vista Article HT1275 without any luck. I have tried disabling McAfee Security before attempting to install. I also read the suggestion to go to Services and turn off iTunes, but it is not installed and therefore not in Services.

I really don't know what else to try in order to find the conflict. Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

A:Cannot install iTunes8 on my computer running Windows Vista Home Premium with SP1

Hi. . .

Sorry to hear of your troubles w/ iTunes. I assure you that somehow we'll straighten this out. 3 of my kids have iTunes on Vista and XP systems, so compatibility does not appear to be an issue.

If you don't mind taking 5 - 10 minutes to run a batch script, it will provide me with the information I need to have a deep look in your system and hopefully come up w/ some answers.

Please follow THESE instructions carefully.

Don't run the 2nd step - PERFMON. If I need it, I'll ask for it.

Just to make sure - this is the download link you are using for iTunes -
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Also - do you have a link for the Vista Article HT1275 that you mentioned? Run the batch script first, then see if you can find HT1275.

Zip up the output folder from the script and attach to next post. I'll be here for another hour or so before going into Philadelphia.

Hello all,

I have a Compaq Presario CQ50 laptop with these specs:

Vista Home Premium, 32 bit, SP1
3 GB RAM
AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core RM-70 @ 2.00 GHz

It's been running great for almost a year (I'd sent it in for repairs only once for a cable replacement and when I got it back there were no problems), until recently.

One day my laptop became sluggish; opening files and internet browsers would take a long time, sometimes they'd freeze and not respond for a few seconds. Rebooting was a long process as well, I'd get stuck at the welcome screen for a few minutes, and then my desktop would take a while to load, overall the whole process would last a half hour to an hour, sometimes more.

Anyway I got impatient and decided to reinstall Vista by using the System Recovery from the partition by pressing F11 at startup to restore my laptop to factory settings. But even after that, startups have still been painfully slow and I'm experiencing all the same problems.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Greetings Tech Support Guy, The computer I wish to purchase has Windows Vista Home Premium preinstalled, with a ticket to purchase an upgrade To Windows 7 Home Premium.
As I wish to use Windows 7 immediately (without bothering with Vista Home Premium) can you please advise, in detail, how I can delete Vista completely and install Windows 7 with minimum fuss.
All help greatly appreciated,

A:Replacing Vista Home Premium with Windows 7 Home Premium

When you get the Vista DVD, boot from it and choose Custom "advanced" installation. Then highlight the partition you want to put 7 on (preferably the Vista partition) then click "delete" (be careful which partition you choose) once the old Vista partition is deleted, be sure the new unallocated partition is highlighted and hit next to continue installing 7. Here is a screenshot, your partition structure may be slightly different.

I'm in a similar situation as this guy:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/1008546-how-replace-vista-full-windows.html

except when I boot up my disk, I only get to the 2nd step:

2) Progress Bar:
The next screen is a more graphical progress bar indicating Windows 7 is still working in the background.

it wont go past this screen.

The same thing happens when I boot it up normally(without the disk for windows 7 home premium), only with the disk in it has the windows 7 rather than the vista look.

Does anyone know what is causing this problem?

A:only get local access on pc running vista home premium

can we see an ipconfig /all from the vista PCs on wireless

on the wireless connection - log into the router and turn off any wireless security and see if you can now connect

------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

I have had it only a week and been experiencing a number of issues. Any help solving any of these would be appreciated.

1. After screensaver Vista seems to hibernate and I cannot wake it. I have to reboot completely.
2. Power button doesn't work sometimes, often after another even such as a shutdown because of #1. Once I removed a usb stick and then it worked. On another occasion I had to shut off / on the power switch at the power supply.
3. Following a reboot due to #1 I had the pc repeatedly lock up following my login. Blank screen and a repeating single note coming from the speakers.
4. My pc boots to the screen I would see if I had just entered an incorrect login password.
5. After adding a new 24" Dell monitor yesterday via DVI (to Radeon 4800 series card) I was unable to boot past the Gigabyte motherboard's splash screen - it just kept recycling as if I was pushing the reboot button each time I hit that screen. It took awhile but I finally narrowed it down to what seemed to be a bad DVI cable (the new one that came with the Dell). It seemed to be the case because the issue was still present when I attached the old monitor to the pc with the same new dvi cable and then it booted when I used the old dvi cable. Thought i had this completely solved until it happened one more time this time using the old cable.
6. I have had a number of instances when everything just froze. No cursor movement with the mouse. I could only reboot to get moving again.

I'm helping a friend identify a slow performance issue on a HP laptop with an Intel Celeron M 530 processor that is running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (SP2).

The system had 1.5GB of ram and I removed the 512MB module and added 2GB. Now that the system has 3GBof RAM, it's still running a bit more sluggishly than I would like. Some apps, like IE8, take longer to load than I would like. The CPU doesn't appear to be pegged and RAM usage is great, now that there is 3GB installed.

The Celeron M 530 processor is running at 1.73GHz. Could this simply be a case of Vista not running well on a Celeron processor based system or are there some tuning tricks I can possibly do to improve performance.

McAfee AntiVirus 2010 is the main security suite which I've complemented with SUPERAntiSpyware. The user experience rating of the system is 3.0.

Any ideas or suggestions? I know you'll probably want more information so post what other info you'll want and I'll gather what I can.

Thanks!

Peace...

I tried looking up Certificate Services Client on MS site and it's impenetrable whether I need this thing for everyday Vista use. I'm not running a web server or MS database app. All I know is it's one of the last remaining Scheduled Tasks that wants to run my HD on forever once it kicks off(forever meaning longer than 5 minutes even if the PC is not idle.) It's a PITA waiting around to burn a DVD or whatever for this thing to quit when I don't know what it does. I just hate to shut stuff off trial and error fashion.

edit: additional info. I'm on a 2 PC home Lan. Not a domain. Don't see that I need Roaming and all that but you never know with Windows.

I'm trying to find out if Group Policy is normally running on a Vista Home Premium system. While there are plenty of helpful people on the forum, most of them are running new versions of Windows. They can't tell me if these items are on a Vista system simply because they are not running it.

Vista Home Premium does not have a group policy manager installed. It is mainly for business versions like Enterprise and Professional. Could you please search your registry for "Group Policy" and tell me if you find any Group Policy entries (don't change anything in your registry) or if gpsvc (Group Policy Client) is running in your Task Manager Services tab?

A:Current Vista Home Premium Users: Are these running on your system?

Yes, if I run regedit > Edit > Find > "group policy" I get some results; and yes, gpsvc is running.

I reinstalled Vista about a month ago (something you should probably consider). As far as I know, the only thing I have done since then that would involve Group Policy was run a Microsoft Fix-it to disable Windows Side Bar.

When using Xnews to download multiple images; I can launch them as they are being saved to my hard drive. Windows Photo Gallery opens a new instance every time a new one is saved. Office Picture Manager does the same. I soon run out of memory and have to close one window for each picture I downloaded. I tried Irfanview (latest version), because it has "one instance of Irfanview" in the options menus, but get the dreaded " is not a valid integer value error. Is there a Vista image viewing utility that will open when an image is launched and close that window when another of the same type (usually JPG) is launched,. That would save on memory and Xnews crashing. It doesn't need the bells and whistles, just make it fit, preferably in the middle of the screen, have reasonably good quality, and leave when the next one comes. (Oh, and free too!) Thx paj692

A:I'm running Vista Home Premium; Photo Gallery has a problem

Picture viewers are all made so that people can open multiple pictures in multiple windows. I doubt there is one that closes itself every time you want to open a new picture (I can't think of one off the top of my head...). I would suggest just saving the pictures to a specific folder and not open them as Xnews downloads them, since you can go into the folder where they are saved and open the first picture, then browse through them all in the same window (even as more are being downloaded).

I run Windows Vista Home Edition Premium 32-Bit. Lately, I've been encountering several problems. Almost every time I turn on the computer, start-up repair runs. In addition, all of my programs respond much more slowly than they previously had. I've scanned numerous times with both MalByte's Anti-Malware and Spybot, but I cannot seem to find any significant issues.I've ended any unnecessary processes, disabled many of my visual themes, and increased my amount of virtual ram, but I haven't noticed a change. Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site so I hope you'll bear with me. About a week ago I began to have sound probs on my laptop. First the sound went in the middle of a game I was playing but came back after I shut it down and restarted. It was shortlived however and ever since I've had that dreaded "no audio output device installed" and that ghastly red circle with the white x next to the sound icon on the taskbar. I think I've googled every site and tried every fix known to man to no avail although yesterday I bought a new mouse and the sound reappeared as if by magic only (you've guessed it) to disappear again. I know this sounds naff but could it have any bearing on a weird message I used to get re the usb ports not recognising a device? Funnily enough since the sound problem appeared that message disappeared! I'm at my wits end now and just about able to curb the urge to throw the lappy out the window....but I don't know how much longer I can hold out. Please can someone help?

Margaret xx

I am trying to connect to two computers that are connected to a Linksys Router using Remote Assistance on a Vista Home Premium Machine. I get the error message that the person you are trying to help may have closed remote assistance. I get the same message when trying to connect to either machine. I am guessing the problem is with a setting in the router, but I don't know what setting.

A:Remote Access from Vista Home Premium to Vista Home Premium and XP Home Edition

You should forward the ports on the router to the IP Addresses of the machines, that you want to connect to. On Symantec PC Anywhere, it is ports 5631 and 32, on Windows remote desktop connection it is port 3389 that needs to be forwarded.

Hello
My husband uses Chrome and it is running very slow. Firefox seems unaffected.
I recently wiped my computer after a nasty virus and have been trying out various security systems recently trying to decide what I want to buy. Currently using trial version of Avast. I am guessing that I need to take some of those off and would love any advise to get rid of unnecessary programs. I am looking at you, HP!

I have a copy of Windows Vista Home Premium x86 and I want to DualBoot!!! Tell me: can I do this?? If I can, tell me how!!!

A:Can I DualBoot Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Vista Home Premium??

Well to do this you would need two product keys. Since you can only use one key on one installed system, to dual boot two vista OS you would need a seperate product key for each one, if you have two keys all you need are two seperate partitions to install them on.

Hey guys,

I want to upgrade my OS from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium and I have the Anytime upgrade DVD (provided at the time when I bought my laptop which came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium). Since this is the first time I will ever try to upgrade my OS and I will be paying for it (lol) I wanted to clear a few doubts before I went about it. My current OS is a Deutsch (German) version. I want my new OS to be in English. So my question is -

Will the upgrade process provide me with the option to choose an installation language?

I researched a bit about language packs and if I'm not very wrong, Multiple language packs work only for Business and Ultimate versions but not for Basic and Home premium. Third party language packs like Vistalizator has been reported to work fine but Microsoft doesn't recommend it and some users have reported to have problems where it pops the message " your windows is not genuine".

So should I do an upgrade or just do a clean install with an original Windows 7 Home Premium DVD?

A:Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade

Welcome
I am not sure about the answer regarding the language pack, but I am sure about the upgrade or the clean install. Do the clean install. A clean install is always preferred over an upgrade. With an upgrade all the old problems that may exist with the OS are just carried to the new installation.
Upgrades often fail, either because of third party software that is not compatible, or malicious software that breaks in the new install.
There are some members that back up their stuff and do a clean install on a regular basis to have the OS run smoothly as the first day. Trust me go with the clean install and enjoy your new OS

I have found many well meaning suggestions aimed at helping others like me to resolve this annoying aspect of networking between Windows 7, Vista and XP but it seems like we are all banging our heads against a brick wall. I have tried every suggestion I can find on other forums but still my Windows 7 computer cannot access my XP Home or Vista machines. I have recently purchased a new Acer Aspire 5535 laptop. It has Windows Vista Home Premium (WVHP) installed.

The computer came with a number of programs that I am not interested in having on my system. In addition, I was not provided a restore disc. I do own a copy of Windows Vista Home Basic (WVHB).

I would like to keep WVHP as I appear to be eligible for an upgrade to Windows 7 . . . but I would like to reinstall to get rid of all these worthless programs. Can I use a WVHB disc with my new WVHP product key?

Could I install WVHB with the WVHB product key, then use the WVHP key supplied by Acer to upgrade?

Thanks for your time in answering my question. I hope it isn't unclear.

Thanks,

Jeremy

I believe that if you install with the Basic disc the process will offer you a choice

Hello,
I have a duo centrino PC running windows vista. My laptop was working well up until last week when I shut down the computer without any problems. The next time I started it, I noticed it was running EXTREMELY slowly and It was taking 10 to 15 minutes to start basic programs such as internet explorer or word. I tried running McAfee figuring the computer may have acquired a virus. When I would try to run a full scan, it would give me an error saying that a file was missing and the scan could not be run. So I figured the computer had a virus. I went to safemode and the computer runs with good speed in safemode. I tried to reinstall McAfee but it can not be installed in safemode. I tried installing it in regular mode but when I click on setup file, nothing happens. Could it be that a virus is preventing me from installing McAfee? The fact that the operating speed is good in safe mode but extremely slow in regular mode be related to a virus? Would really appreciate your input on how I can get my computer back. Please see the DDs.txt log as well the zip file that was rquested from me. Really appreciate your help.

might be a obvious answer but im not very clued up on my pc's I know a few things but not everything

thanks in advance

P.S sorry for the bad grammar

A:Running windows 7 but thinking of using xp home premium, look inside.

If it's licensed to the same PC and you use the exact same version, yes. With Factory OEM XP you must use an OEM channel installer whereas with Win7 you can use the same isntaller for either OEM or retail.

So you'd want XP Home OEM with SP3.

If forced to download from a torrent make sure you read the comments closely to see that nothing like a crack is added as this will defeat the purpose of using the license you legally own and can be seeded with infection.

Every time I start Windows 7, a bunch of tasks I don't want start themselves. Some are in the tray, some are running in the TASK MANAGER.
I then go to CCleaner that has a STARTUP tool that allows me to DISABLE or DELETE but I delete which I do to all except my Anti-virus and Firewall.

When I install a program, I DO check, "do not load at startup" but they seem to ignore it load their tasks anyway.
For example now, I have:
CCleaner
crashreporter.exe
SiteAdvisor
Sink to receive asynchronous calls
Cyberlink
Snagit
etc

Most of these I think are agents to restart them but chances are, I will not use in this session and they take up memory, etc.

I can go to the Task Manager and "end process" for this session and DELETE them from CCleaner Startup but at reboot, there they are again.

IS THERE anyway to tell Windows STOP, or ask me, or something to exclude tasks from automatically starting?

A:Windows 7 64bit Home Premium starts tasks I do not want running

Go to start button, then go to run
In run type msconfig then OK
In misconfig go to start up
Then check the ones you want to start up
Boot computer
What happens
If that does not work, it usually means that the program is made to be an automatic start up. In that case not much you can do.
Site Advisor you will need at start up or it cannot do its job

Hi, I've been having BSOD problems(I don't actually see a BSOD the power just goes off) ever since I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium.

It occasionally happens during start-up or randomly(no specific program or website) at other times. It will also occasionally freeze and then I need to reboot.

I'm new at this and not tech savvy so hopefully I've included all relevant information. If not please be kind.

My System:

32 bit
Original O/S: Vista(came pre-installed)
Windows 7: Upgrade Version
System hardware is about 4 to 5 years old
Age Of Windows 7: I upgraded to 7 about 3 months ago

A:BSOD after upgrading from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium

No DMP included...

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
Please attach the DMP files to your next post not to post one.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Your install has a very high number of POQ's in the SFC report - which usually indicates that a lot of Language Packs have been installed.

There are no serious errors in the scan.

Please download the Farbar Service Scanner from

Right-click on the saved file and select 'Run as Administrator', and tick all the options, then click on the Scan button - copy and paste the report to your response.

After trying to get into the Task Manager (ctrl/alt/del) to find out what processes are running, the screen goes black and the system hangs. possibly but more than likely you need driver updates and your registry could do with a clean. When I installed Vista on my laptop, I used max registry cleaner and found well over 20,000 ivalid registry files that could simply be deleted!

I have a win Vista Home premium laptop. I want to install the Symantec Antivirus into it. After I have install it, The sysmantec icon is disable which I cannot enable it. Pleas advise me. what is the problem? Or how to set the account security? Thanks

Hi and Welcome.

Are you running any other anti-virus or firewall program?

Have you tried to un-install Norton A/V then re-install it?

I would suggest that you remove Norton from your system, then re-install the Norton A/V again.

Click on the Norton RT link in my signature area and download it to your desktop. Then right-click on the Norton RT desktop icon and select Run as Administrator. Let the removal tool run, then re-boot.

Re-install Norton A/V and see if you can access it via the icon you are speaking of.

I have a laptop,Vista Home Premium installed, for last 2 weeks I am trying to install Windows update, it displays the following message : Vista 80070424 Windows update encountered an unknown error.

I have AVAST as Antivirus / malwarebytes and spywareblaster installed on this laptop.
When I had previously installed Spybot Search and Destroy, got Security Warning sign, from User account control, letting me know that All 4 Security features are not on, I did checked it, everything was ok. Is this spyware compatible with Vista or not, let me know please
Any helpful suggestion and advice are welcome and appreciated

A:Windows Vista Home Premium

If you use Spybot's Teatimer function, you need to disable itTeaTimer works by preventing ANY changes to the system. Open SpyBot Search and Destroy by going to Start -> All Programs -> Spybot Search and Destroy -> Spybot Search and Destroy. If prompted with a legal dialog, accept the warning.Click and then on "Advanced Mode"
You may be presented with a warning dialog. If so, press Click on Click on Uncheck this checkbox:
Close/Exit Spybot Search and Destroy

Hey lfred.cowdry

Welcome to TSF

Ok this is a profile error where it cant load up the direct path to a registry key that contains the profile info, basically it cant load up an old profile that may be deleted

1. Start\Run and type "Regedit.msc"
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
3. Go through the profile list and delete the one that has previously been deleted or shouldn't be there, The ones you search through are highlighted in the picture. DO NOT DELETE THE ONES AT THE TOP OF THE PROFILE LIST

4. Once done you should be able to back up straight away

Ok, I know this question has been asked a million times already but I looked all around and I just want a straight answer.

This site Reader Question: Maximum Memory in 32-bit Windows Vista - Windows Vista help says I should use x32 but a lot of other forums say to use x64 when you have 4GB+

Computer specs:

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium (x64)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5750 @ 2.00GHz
Hard Drive: 250 GB
RAM: 4GB
Graphics Driver: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family (Not sure if this is correct, also is it possible to change this to NVIDIA or ATI without having to buy something?)

I use my laptop for playing games (Halo, Gears of War) and watching movies also I use it to play MMO's, so perhaps a better processing and download speed?

If you need any more information please tell me.

A:Windows Vista Home Premium x32 or x64?

Look at it this way. If you want to do a lot of processor intensive stuff and your rig runs 4+gb of ram: 64Bit

If your rig is basic and you just check e mail, browse the internet, basic computer stuff: 32Bit, as it needs less resources.

Im looking at Newegg, and I see that if you buy Vista now, you can get windows 7 upgrade free later. Is this only for people buying it now? Or does windows realise how much they failed and give everyone with Vista an upgrade?

A:Vista Home Premium to Windows 7?

This happens with all Microsoft products when new one's are scheduled to be introduced. It's a marketing ploy that moves the cash flow up in time (so they get their money sooner rather than later).

In this case it's been available since late June and is targeted at those people buying computer stuff for "back to school".

I have an HP Pavillion with MANY upgrades.  AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ 2.5GHz, 4.00GB RAM, 32-bit OS,  931 GB capacity, GeForce GTX 650 video Card, DirectX runtime 11.0.  Ran Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and it said:HP Pavillion might give me more info (couldn't find anything), Update Netgear WNA3100 N300 Wireless USB Adapter, Update NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet... the rest are programs that might not run on the new OS.  So my question is can I purchase Windows 10 and install it on my HP Pavillion?  Can someone smarter than I, please advise me on what to do from here?  Since I just got a new Hard drive, I do not have anything on it... so now is the time.  I have installed a couple of programs...do I need to uninstall them so I can us the registration code when I reinstall on a new OS?

A:Vista Home Premium to Windows 10

CompAreNotMe Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about wanting to upgrade your Vista PC to Win10 and wanted to help. First off, I hope you realize that there is no Upgrade Path from Vista to Win10.  This means that you will not be able to migrate anything from Vista to Win10 and you will have to reinstall all your apps from scratch. My biggest concern about what you are doing is in two areas:1) Drivers2) Apps In terms of the first, without knowing your detailed product number, I can not confirm it, but I suspect there are no HP Win10 drivers for your PC, and perhaps, not any Win7 drivers either.   IF you follow these instructions for finding the detailed product number, I can do a search to confirm this:  Finding Your HP Product Model Number | HP« Customer Support In terms of the second, MS has made some huge changes to their OS internals since the Vista days and I would not be surprised if NONE of your Vista apps work anymore.  You should check each one and confirm that there is at least a Win7 version of each app, and preferrably, a Win10 version. At this point, my advice is NOT to proceed with the Win10 installation. We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

Hi Visha, Welcome to the Forum.

It is best to install all the programs that you are going to use on 7 it is possible that by going to Vista program files that some of them will work just by clicking on the .exe but you are running the risk of corrupting both OS's

Pooch

Best to leave D:\ well alone this is where your complete system restore files are located. You might need them someday should you ever want to reinstall/repair Vista

When I'm trying to play some games, Internet Explorer keeps flashing a box that says "Internet Explorer has shut down this site" Then I have the option to close the program, or have internet explorer try to resolve the problem and return to the site.

I always have it resolve the problem, but it does it so often, and sometime that means that I can't get back to the people who I am playing with. So far it usually happens when I'm playing on the Winster site. I allow pop-ups when I'm playing....but don't know if that has anything to do with it!

I haven't tried to fix the problem, as I have no idea what to do. Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Try flushing your dns cache

1. Click the Microsoft Vista Start logo in the bottom left corner of the screen
2. Click All Programs
3. Click Accessories
4. RIGHT-click on Command Prompt
5. Select Run As Administrator
6. In the command window type the following and then hit enter: ipconfig /flushdns ( make sure you put a space between ipconfig and / )

When its finished you should see it saying this

Windows IP Configuration
Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

Well I have read the thread to decide which one to get, but it didn't help much. So I'm building an entirely new system, and have two questions. Main question is, should I buy Vista 64-bit, or 32-bit. My Primary use will be gaming, and browsing. I will also do those little things that basically everyone with a pc does (music, movies, etc). Here are links to both versions of Vista that I want to purchase.

Second question is, will all of this hardware be compatible with each other, and will it be compatible with both of the 32-bit and 64-bit vista types? I'm thinking if I go either way, I won't have to change my hardware since these are pretty new parts. Here are the parts.

Hey all

These forums are gnarly in-depth. Love it. Anyway, I have the OEM win 7 x64 on this (my main) comp, and have my old Acer notebook just sitting there with nothing on it except the basic Vista Home Premium x32 on it. I finally just left the thing blank after I did the fifth or sixth Vista crash start all over technique so many times, and just went new with everything. So right after I finished the excitement of seeing the "Preparing Your Desktop"
screen on this comp. I thought, "I'd like to just put it on my other one too." Right? After a bunch of browsing into ten thousand forums, and guides or what not, I still have no true fact that one cannot do it with the same key. It's all a bunch of "yeah you can," or "no way." arguments. Maybe one solid answer on the whole forum. And what if I just dual boot it, and if 7 won't activate, just go back to blankity blank Vista. I had the beta 7 on there too before I wiped it clean this last time. It'd be worth giving away with windows 7 on it. I know computers inside-out. Enough to know it's stupid to just do something, and suffer the result. Further more, My question is, can or can't you
somehow use the 64bit OEM disc and key on one comp, and then use it on your other 32bit, with athlon II x64 CPU, PC? Or does anyone really have a clue...lol?

Thanks, Johnny B

A:OEM Windows 7 Home Premium x64 act on 1 PC, use for old x32 vista too?

You can not use a Lenovo OEM disc on an Acer computer as it is tied to the computer that it was originally installed on... During installation, it will query the BIOS and will know it is a different BIOS than the one it was designed for, and fail to continue... You will need to get a different version of Windows 7 .... Hope this helps.

Hi folks,

I have Vista Home Premium installed on my laptop. On October 22nd I will be downloading and doing a custom installion of Windows 7 Pro. Unfortunately as everyone knows you cannot do a complete PC backup with vista home premium. I have tons of files and programs on this computer and would love to keep everything without going through the hassle of reinstalling all my programs. Any idea what my options are? Answers would be awsome, thanks in advance.

A:Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional

Since you cant do an inplace upgrade you will have to save your user files to an ext hd or dvds

Hunt down any programs that you dont have media for..bookmark the pages

Export your bookmarks to your documents and transfer them to the ext hdd as well.

Install 7..go check for updates.
Put on AV.
Install programs you have media for.
Go hunt down the rest.
Move your user files from the ext hdd to your new install..

I dont use any wizards etc,,that way I dont have to worry about something going wrong...I highlight copy and paste

Okay, I started getting these BSOD's on Feb 15th this year, and since then I've had 42 of them up to today. The 15th is the day of the first Crash Dump, there was nothing installed or changed on that day, or any time recently. They seem to happen far more frequently when I am gaming ( I play Warhammer Online, not much else ), though they are not exclusive to when I am gaming. I've had it BSOD when it was sitting idle, while surfing the web... pretty much any time, just more often when gaming.
I downloaded the microsoft debug tool so I could open the Crash Dumps and look at the probable cause.
I've run the windows mem test multiple times, and found no errors. I've uninstalled and updated drivers for most everything I can think of. I'm not programming savvy, so I haven't been able to use the debugger for anything more than seeing the probable cause.

Two recurring themes found among your list are video & Internet. What do you have plugged into USB(s)? The chronological sequence of the probable causes that you listed will be of interest. For now I would tell you to be sure that your video and NIC (both Ethernet & wifi) drivers are updated and take care of these items -

Hi folks a few days ago I installed Service Pack 2 on my laptop, now its stopped working. Windows starts up as normal buit when I click on one of my desktop icons, the little circle thing just keeps going round and around constantly. So, I can't click on my Start menu to shutdown normally, that doesn't respond, haave to unplug power cable and remove battery. Then of course I get the 'Safe' mode options. I tried this, and went into System Restore but the only restore point remaining is the one were the Service Pack was installed, it will rollback to then but it doesn't make any difference. I've also selected the CHKDSK facility in safe mode were you right click hard drive, and use tools then reboot.

My computer is Acer Aspire 9301AWSMi - 17" AMD Turion Laptop

Thanks, hope someone can help.

A:Windows Vista Home Premium problems

If it's possible to do so, try uninstalling your antivirus and antimalware apps. You might try uninstalling your firewall, too, if you are using a third-party one. Just for future reference, it is a good idea to uninstall these before any major upgrade (unless you are knowledgable enough to completely disable them).

If that doesn't solve the problem, you should be able to find SP2 in Programs and Features and remove it. Then try reinstalling with your services at default settings and the above-mentioned programs removed.

I have recently installed vista home premium upgrade to my HP pavilion.I am impressed so far but I am not sure about Defender . Should I let it run with Norton antivirus 2008. This new upgrade has turned my PC into a brand new machine with a performance of 4.7 (memory, everything else got a 5.9).I am not sure what all this means and I am not tryin to go back to the poor performance I had before the clean install .... .So If anyone could give me there opinion on this defender software and any other microsoft aplications that I might want to give attention to I would greatly apreciate it Thank You

windows defender is for spyware. you should be able to run them both at the same time without any conflicts.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 1525 configured as follows:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5450 @ 1.66GHz 1.67GHz
3062 MB of RAM
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I installed Visual Studio 2005/Microsoft SQL Server 2005/PHP/MySQL
SQL Server, PHP & MySQL all are not functioning due to various "previously known compatibility issues".

I have decided to partition drive using either Partition Magic or System Commander & install XP w/SP2 + Solaris 10 + [Any version of Linux]? Is this doable?

If so, please let me know how[step by step]
If not, why not & are there any suggesions?

Thanks in advance for any replys

A:Partitioning Windows Vista Home Premium

Before going to the trouble of re-partitioning, have you tried to run these programs in XP compatibility mode?

Right-click on the desktop icon, select ptoperties, Compatibility tab and select run under XP SP2/3 - whichever is offered. This just may help. Good Luck.

Regards. ..

I just bought an upgrade version of Windows 7 which I intend to use to upgrade my Vista laptop. I just want to be sure I do not make mistake in this upgrade.

I have a 32 bit Vista, and I want to upgrade to 64 bit Windows 7. Is it possible? Or do I have to use a custom installation? I presume I can do a custom installtion, since though the windows 7 cover says "upgrade from Vista", it also says that one would have to perform a clean install if it was XP that was being upgraded. Am I correct in this assumption?

I know one or two of my programmes (freewares) would not work with 64 bit. Is there any way to run them in an environment which would allow them to run (may be in a compatibility version)?

In case I want to go back to Vista (unlikely, but always possible), would the installation of Windows 7 keep the Vista backup option on my HP laptop drive D?

Finally, why should I use a 64 bit version (except that it is the most advanced?)?

Many thanks for your help. I can back up all my programmes and data on a hard disk, which I would before upgrading.

A:Fax software for windows vista home premium

Wow, i have Ultimate so I didn't know the problem existed. How crappy of them to take the fax feature out. I can't verify this software, but when I researched for an answer to your question on different message boards SnappyFax came up as a solution quite often. I hate to answer your question this way because I have no idea how well it works, but maybe it will help you a little, or at least point you in the right direction.EDIT: It does seem to come with a free trial version here that you may want to try first.
