A: dell computer trade-in

so you have a windows2000 CD - reformat and re-instal windows - that way all the programs that you want to keep and have licence for will also be removed.....
IE MS Office etc

I assume you will be given them the OS, CD etc and not using it yourself...

I am new here and primarily interested in security and privacy. I am a personal fitness trainer and I would like to find a computer expert who is interested in trading their computer knowledge for my fitness / nutrition knowledge.
I recently ran the combofix program and got the log but dont know what to do with it.

A:wanna trade your computer expertise for my fitness expertise?

I'm shifting this to the AII forum for you. Please note that ComboFix is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert." It is NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. I have finally got the money to get the parts to build the $647 PC from the February 2010 Maximum PC magazine. When I went to Newegg the 620 was out of stock. I could probably get it somewhere else but I wanted to get all the parts from one source. They do have the 630 so my question is, will the AMD Athlon II X4 620 and 630 both work on the Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 motherboard?

A:Solved: AMD CPU trade off

The CPU will work with that motherboard. Seems like an old board though, several new AMD chipsets since that one.

About a week and a half ago I bought some RAM from DataMemorySystems...2 Gigs to be exact.

It came pretty quick, so that's not the problem, the problem is that my computer isn't that much faster, and I only had 512 RAM before. I had just gotten a new motherboard, a FOXCONN 964L SIS PC661MXPlus to be exact. And I guess the PC2700 DDR RAM 333 I got for it wasn't the best optimized, the computer guy that put it in for me said that I should have called him and he'd have gotten 400 DDR RAM for it.

I'm wondering, is there anywhere known to trade RAM?

I think I can still turn the RAM in to DMS, but then I'd have to wait for shipping and handling and that's what I DON'T wanna do.

Am I crazy or is it possible to help me?

A:Is There Anyware Where I Can Trade RAM?

The only real way to do it is sell it on eBay.

Hey guys so over the holidays I purchased a q9550 for my ep45-ds3r gigabyte board it is running 4 gigs of corsair dominator ram and 4 gigs of corsair xms2 I havent over clocked the processor its running stock 2.88

Well my friend is rebuilding his computer and I could trade for his XFX x58-i motherboard with a I7 920 with 6gigs of ram.
Also he is having trouble getting that motherboard to support more than 4gbs of ram hes running x64 win 7 but he is not as tech savvy as i am and has not flashed the bios so I am hoping that will fix it. If not I will RMA it to XFX and get a new board

I am not too sure on if i should trade we would be trading mobo, memory, and cpus

I am leaning to trading because of the i7 and the mobo being more futureproof than current mobo and q9550 but as far as performance Im running a hd5870 2gb card

Im wondering If the performance would be different going from 8gigs to 6gigs I am thinking that it wont be that noticable because of the I7

Just wondering if anyone has any opinion on if i should keep my build or trade it would be free so

Im thinking performance would be a little bit improved in gaming if not identical

A:Should I trade my q9550 for a I7 920??

Hello, I am brand new here so please excuse any mistakes I may make while posting! I own a Dell Studio XPS 8100 desktop computer with Windows 7, 64-bit, 2.8ghz Intel Core i7 processor, 1TB HDD, and 8GB Memory. For the past couple of months I have really been wanting to just switch over to a Toshiba laptop. I have been scoping out computers left and right, trying to find the perfect one... I came across this one on Ebay, and was wondering if it would be a fair trade. It is a Toshiba Satellite A665-3DV6 with Windows 7, 64-bit, 2.5ghz Intel Core i5 processor, 640GB HDD, and 8GB Memory.
I understand some of my specs are a bit better than the Toshiba, but I read up on it a bit and it seems like a really awesome computer! Also, I read that the processor can be bumped up to 2.8ghz with Turbo Boost, is this true? I have a pretty good grasp on specs and features, but I am not very knowledgeable on modifying or reconstructing computers (hopefully someday). Anyways, I paid a little over $1,000 for my Dell brand new. I read that the Toshiba laptop was $1,300. So which computer is better overall? Should I consider trading my Dell for the Toshiba? If trading isn't a good idea I am also considering just purchasing this laptop and working on selling my Dell elsewhere. Also, what is a fair price to put on my Dell? Is $... Read more

Just bought a new PC with Window8 preinstalled. Having struggled manfully for 4 weeks I just cannot get a feel for this new operating system. Files disappear, drag and drop has gone, right click is a thing of the past. As computer dinosaur, can I delete 8 and install XP ? I have two laptops that are running XP I appreciate that Windows will no longer support XP but I'm growing old and need to get on with my life !

A:Desperation with Windows 8 - can I trade down to XP ?

I understand your sufferings But there may not be suitable drivers for xp, and that os may be very insecure in the near future. Better to opt for Windows 7. But before doing that, maybe try w8 with restored 'normal' functionality using classic shell (or one of the other start menu restorers) and test it out for while.

Hey Everyone,
I'm New to windows 8.1 (also haven't had a computer in a while)

Just put my new rig together and was looking for recommendations to must have applications on a new computer.

I'm definitely in need of one to show fan speed and internal temperature
but all suggestions are welcome

A:Applications you would trade your children for

A couple of recommendations first.

Create your initial rescue media on either DVD's or a USB if you have not done so already.

Make sure Restore Point (System Protection) is turned on and functioning.

Formulate a back-up strategy for you personal files as well as your Operating System.

Here are a couple for temps. I am sure there are more comprehensive apps available but these are very basic but will tell you the basics. Core Temp does not show fan speed while HWMonitor does and much more.

Core Temp

I think Apps are more personal preference and I kind-of lump them into at least 2 categories, Operational and Entertainment.

As for Operational Items, these are some things I install right away on a new system.

Macrium Reflect- Free or Paid version (Back-up System Image Creation)

Malwarebytes - Free or Paid version (Malware Scanner)

REVO Uninstaller - Free or Paid version ( Comprehensive Program/Application Uninstaller)

Adobe PDF Reader - Free

As for entertainment, well to each their own but I always install Google Earth and now you can get the paid version, Google Earth Pro for free.

Have Fun!

Anyone here can probably see that Windows 7 is a lot better looking than Windows 8/8.1, at least when it comes to the desktop. Most of us Windows 8/8.1 users must have noticed that it is less resource hungry than Windows 7 not to mention faster.
Does this mean MS has made a trade-off? Has MS ditched the good looks of W7 for some extra speed/agility on W8/8.1?

What do you guys think?

Does anyone know if there is, and how can I contact, a Trade Association that deals with printers?

I have a cheap Lexmark X3480 multi-function printer. I'm happy with the quality for my purposes, and just OK with the cost of cartridges.

However, it is just 14 months old and it has now failed after I inserted a new cartridge - with a "cover open" error message. With just a little research I have found this is a very common problem with this model. I have been advised that an internal switch has broken. I have also been advised by a government sponsored site that this is a durability issue. In that the all goods, including printers should have an 'expected life' and failure before that is 'unreasonable' and durability is an aspect of quality that should be addressed by the maker. They advised that I should contact the appropriate Trade Association to see what they say as to the 'expected life' and then approach the manufacturer and complain.

Thanks for looking, and thanks in advance for your response.

Best wishes, Alan

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. consumer sentiment slipped this month as Americans fretted about personal finances and focused on paying down debt, a survey showed on Friday.

The Reuters/University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers said its final index of sentiment for October slipped to 70.6 from 73.5 in September.

In spite of the decline, sentiment remained well above where it was a year ago. In November 2008, the index had collapsed its worst reading since mid-1980 at 55.3. This month's reading was also a touch above the median expectation of 70.0, according to a Reuters poll.

But while recovery expectations have improved over the last year, "consumers continued to voice very dismal assessments of their personal financial situation," the report said.

"These grim financial evaluations, coupled with (consumers') intentions to increase savings and decrease their indebtedness, will limit any rebound in consumer spending."

The majority of consumers reported their finances had worsened in October for the 13th straight month, the report showed, "the longest and deepest decline in the 60-year history of the surveys."

"Confidence still strikes me as shockingly low," said Jeff Kleintop, chief market strategist at LPL Financial in Boston. "Consumers are still very pessimistic."

Hello everyone!

I am facing Trade Exchange virus which creates additional tabs while using browser.
I did some research on internet and have tried few methods (Malwarebytes & Adware Removal Tool), but to no help.

I read somewhere that this actually is a DNS settings issue and that I need to reset my Router?

If that's the case, then I need help with resetting the router...I don't want to reset it and then not able to get it back to original settings, which I don't know how to..

I tried accessing router settings page on which is also not working! It used to work before..

Can some one kindly help me with the issue?

A:Trade exchange virus + Unable to access router settings

Here's a link on how to flush your DNS.

Resetting an Internet Connection (Flush DNS) | Learning Studio Technical Support

Resetting your router generally involves holding in a tiny switch at the back with a pen/paper clip. If you go to your router manufacturers website, there should be instructions on how to do that on your particular make/model.

Since you can't access the router, not sure how you could save your settings. Most routers allow you to export the settings to a file you save on your PC, if you can access the router. The manufacturers site may have further information that can help you access the router.

Not sure if you ran this adware removal tool, if you haven't tried this one yet give it a shot. AdwCleaner since this is good at ferreting out adware.

Here's a weird one, I have a WinXP PC, with a hidden system file in the root of C:\ that is approximately 8 bytes in size. The filename shows up as the following image:
Namely Unicode characters
U+2124, U+2122, U+2620
Double-Stroke Z, Trade Mark symbol, Skull and Crossbones.
I have no idea how it got there or what software created it, but it looks decidedly suspicious (although Symantec Endpoint Protection and Malwarebytes are detecting nothing).
Has anyone seen anything like this before?
Is this likely to be part of some malware?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.

I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.

Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.

My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.

Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??

The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

So over the past 2-3 weeks I kept noticing that my battery kept dying even though I would shut it down (yes window > shutdown) the computer with a full battery. The next evening I would power up and see that the battery was at 20% from full charge. This is a BRAND NEW as in <2 months XPS 9550. I checked my event log and WHAT THE H@#$??? It is absolutely filled with Dell Foundation Service and Dell Product Registration events all saying  " Power event Handled Successfully by the service." Clearly it is not.. The stupid things run every 10 seconds. So when I think I am powering down my computer, it is being blocked by these services and actually just going to sleep... but it actually isn't sleeping. Its waking up every 10 seconds. Can anyone PLEASE help me determine the issue. Apparently according to update service everything is up to date.

Two months ago bought a Dell 8900 from Best Buy. After 20 days, it would not start, same with the next 8900 replacement... only fewer days. The first gameware as a replacement did not start at all. The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530, XP PRO, SP3, about a year and a half old. Almost since I first got it, every few months or so, when I boot up it hangs on the Dell screen. When I turn it off and reboot, it is fine. I use Rebit to back up everything on an ongoing basis and have an extended warranty from Dell. Is there anything I can do about this, or should do? Thanks for your help.

Was given a Dell Optiplex 360 that I found out after getting a nasty virus had a bootleg XP OS
I also did not have any disks with it. I had older disks for a Dell 4600 that I used to wipeout the hard drive and install the new OS. Everything works fine except that I can not load any of the drivers from the second disk, (it was a 3 disk series)
thus at least at this point not able to connect with my cable internet. Cable people told me I needed the drivers.Any suggestions or can it just not be done.
Thanks, Al

A:Loading Older Dell OS To Newer Dell Computer

You will have to go to the dell website look under support and then drivers and downloads for your model of computer. If you use the service tag number on the computer it will make sure you get the correct ones you need. For future reference so you wont have this hassle again burn all of the drivers to a cd so you will be all set the next time.

Can anyone suggest a way to get a dell 770 printer to work on a non dell win98 system?

My friend was given the printer from his friends, but it's a dell and it's pretty muh brand new so he doesn't want to throw it away. It's also better than his current printer

Anyway, he uses the dell install disk but once it begins and runs the setup app it gives a message akin to pirating. Saying something like -this computer does not support dell , or something like - this computer is not a dell.

Can anyone offer advice. I did a search on google and dells' site and here.
I couldn't quite find anything that might lead me to an answer..?

I have a 3Com 10/100 PC Card for trade if anyone is interested. I tried to use it in my notebook to access the company LAN but no dice. Its brand spanking new still in the box -- used only once. Cost me 159 bucks and I can't return it since I opened it. I know this isn't a swapshop, but I thought I'd give it a try. I want a 56K V.90 PC card modem in return. Thanks!!

I have a two year old Dell PC with Windows 7. I got a virus in my computer that by phone and computer takeover Norton located in my MBR. When they cleaned it my computer will no longer boot up. Norton worked with me for three days on the problem but we were unable to fix the computer. I followed other web sites and repaired my MBR but it still will not boot up. I tried System Repair, Check point, Image, and Dell system restore and all failed. I have tried to use the Windows install CD and all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor and then after 3 minutes the compute attempts to boot again and fails. I tried everything to try and wipe the drive from C prompt and it will not let me. I have very weak computer skills but I can follow directions and I have wiped a previous computer I owned. (I confirmed that my CD drive is working) I also should mention I have a second hard drive on my computer that I backed everything up to.

A:Dell Computer PC will not load Windows install CD from computer crash

See if you can reset the BIOS hardware/software connections and then clear the CMOS to access your Windows 7 install disc.
Resetting hardware/software connections in the BIOS and clearing temporary memory of corruption:Shut down and turn off the computer.
Unplug the computer from the wall or surge protector (then remove the battery if it is a laptop).
"Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station, disconnect
cables to printers or devices such as external monitors, USB memory sticks or SD cards, headset or external speakers, mouse or auxiliary keyboard, turn off WIFI and Bluetooth wireless devices." (Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues HP Pavilion dv5000 Notebook PC series - HP Customer Care (United States - English))
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds. This closes the circuit and ensures all
power from components is drained to clear the software connections between the BIOS
and hardware and clear any corruption in the temporary memory.
(If it is a laptop, plug the battery back into the laptop and then) Plug the computer back into the wall. Do not reconnect any unnecessary peripherals; monitor, keyboard,
and mouse should suffice and be the only peripherals reconnected.
Turn it on to reinitialize the software connections between the BIOS and hardware

Clear the CMOS:Use your system manual to find instructions for accessing the BIOS...
In the BIOS, go to the EXIT screen...

Have u looked in the BIOS and mad sure the CD is the first boot device, this should be installable (changeable) in the BIOS, altho your BIOS might not have that option, and u can leave it that way as it will not mess up anything. Once u boot to the Windows CD u should have options to format or anything u need to do.

I am concerned about the weak power supply and the motherboard GPU interfering.

Should I be considering a external power booster?

I would love to hear your suggestions.

I would look at the power supply and see if a normal size new power supply would fit into that case, if not I would "re-case" the whole machine when I add the new video card so I wouldnt have any power issues.

Hi and welcome to TSF did you get the battery from dell or elsewhere as batteries bought from after market sources do not always perform well and if your adapter works then you can still use the laptop admittedly somewhat limited, contact the seller and complain

Yo, my father has a Dell Dimension 2400 as his office computer(see bottom of this post for tech specs) and I want to upgrade it to an AMD Athlon 64 3300+ Socket 754. What I wanted to do was place the new upgrade into the same case as the Dell. Here's what I plan on purchasing...

AMD Athlon 64 3300+ 2.40GHz / 256KB Cache / 1600MHz FSB / OEM / Socket 754 / Processor

My problem is that I want to get a motherboard which will fit the ATX power connector in the Dell computer and that the Motherboard will be able to use the amount of power in the Dell computer (not sure of the wattage of the PSU). Any ideas for a good Mobo is appreciated.

Tech Specs (Dell Dimension 2400):
Pentium 4 - 2.4 Ghz
Some Intel Mobo w/ integrated graphics
2 x 256 MB PC2700 333Mhz
...etc... lol, nothing much else matters

I'm ASSUMING that the Power Supply is 20 pin (I'm not at my father's office so I wouldn't know). If you're missing any info that you need to help me let me know.

A:Upgrade a Dell Computer...

What is it you plan on doing with the computer? gaming? if the present motherboard has a AGP port you would be better off spending your money on a graphics card.

Your also going to need a copy of XP once you switch the motherboard from a intel chipset to a amd chipset your not going to be able to boot from the existing hard drive. you also wont be able to use the dell recovery disk to reload windows once you swap mobo's.

Most of Dell's PSU's with P4's are 300watt

I have purchased a new Dell Inspiron (3847) desktop with windows 7 pro. In fact I have not even taken it out of the box yet.

It came with Mcafee Security Centre which Dell is apparently promoting. But, I might just forgo the Mcafee and install Avast Free Anti-virus, plus MBAM Free, and SuperAntispyware Free. I had Mcafee on a PC many years ago and I do not have anything good to remember about it.

I did a Dell today that used F8 to access the recovery partition. That should be the quickest way to reformat your Dell and will leave the recovery partition intact (along with the Tools partition if you have one).

If you'd like to get rid of all partitions, then you'll have to delete the partitions and create one partition to hold everything. Then you can install Vista with the Operating System, Drivers, and Utilities disks that came with your Dell.

Personally, I'd go with the first option above - it's quicker and you won't have to install all the drivers and applications.

I recently tried to install service pack 2 on a dell computer, and about half way through I get a message telling me that installation cannot be completed, and that windows may not work correctly. Every time after I get the BSoD, and a message which tells me their is a problem with the ram. I read about this problem, and I have figured out that the install messed with the ram settings. I don't know how to fix it though. I can boot up with linux cd though. What should I do?

A:SP2 install on Dell computer

Attempting to install XP SP2 in a computer has no effect on how RAM modules function.

What is the model name and model number of that Dell, and how much RAM is installed?

Are you using an actual XP SP2 CD?

Have you deleted all current partitions, created a new C partition, formatted that new partition with the NTFS file system, and then attempted to install XP SP2?

I just bought a refurbished Dell Dimension 4400 Pentium 4, 1.7GHz, 256MB, 30GB from It came with no operating software or monitor which was fine because I had my own. However, I can't seem to be able to start up the computer. This is what I'm doing;

I turn on the computer with the "Dell Dimension Resource CD" in the computer. (It does say on the top of the cd that "You must boot your computer from this CD to run the diagnostics, which may require changing your computer's boot sequence.")

I) It starts to run & at first it says "Invalid system disk replace the disk, and then press any key." I do so & it then gives me an option to either boot from hard drive or cd, and I select "2" which is cd. It then shows "starting Windows 98 which is a bit odd coz there should be no OS on the computer. I will be installing XP.

II) I then get a list of choices 1)run graphics 2) run 32 bit bell diagnostics 3) run 3com nic config utili 4) create SATA RAID driver diskette 5)Exit to dos 6) Reboot system.

III) I tried chice #1, it passed

IV) Choice 2 it said, "system error this system is not recoginzed as a supported dell pc. these diagnostics may not be run on unsupported sustems. I click "OK"
It then goes back to "I" above and on to the 6 choices again.

V) Choice 3 "Error No 3C90X NICs are installed in this comp. I click "OK"

Basically, all through the 6 choices... Read more

I think my Dell Vostro must have a proprietary block to cloning to a non-Dell machine. I have tried spotmau, Macrium,Aeomei, Microsoft and maybe another. I can get the clone to load on the new machines hard drive, but I cannot get it so I can access it. Is there any way to overcome this? I have tried it on an Asus and Sony computer.

A:Cloning a Dell Computer

you cannot use a clone from a dell computer to another. It violates manufacturers oem license from microsoft. besides different computer, different motherboard, different drivers. windows would have to be reinstalled if it was a legit transfer.

having nothing better to do, i decided to take apart my computer and finally install a new hard drive i have kept for almost a year. so i decided to give myself a challenge and take the thing apart completely, taking almost all the things off of the motherboard and stripping the shell of everything except for the motherboard. i then used an air duster on everything, but as i dusted the geforce driver, some of the liquid inside sprayed on it but then quickly evaporated. i pieced all the pieces as they were(or so i think), and turned the computer on, but my monitor did not turn on at all. i unplugged the monitor, and it said it was searching for a signal(after i unplugged it from the computer.

i am not very experienced with computer hardware, and right now all i know is that it is a refurbished hp compaq desktop.

A:Dell computer won't stay on

That liquid is most likely duster propellant and it won't hurt anything. You probably didn't attach the front panel wires properly back to the motherboard and hopefully you didn't damage the motherboard with a static electricity discharge. Take the computer to a friend or someone that knows how to repair computers. If you have damaged something by doing all this yourself, chalk it up to experience

One of my coworkers brought in one of her personal machines, which is completely new (still packaged up and everything); an HP ProDesk. After going through the initial setup and installing AVs, changing IE settings and all that good stuff, I ran Windows Update. For some reason, a Dell, Inc. update showed up.

Should there be any reason for this?

Thanks in advance.

A:Dell, Inc. Update on an HP computer??

Are there any Dell peripherals attached to the machine? I'm thinking something like a monitor, mouse or keyboard.

Moms in Fl... says all the sudden her computer won't boot up, it acts as if it wants to boot, all the lights come on, such as the keyboard and all, but theres no video at all, then the computer shuts back down....

I'm a long way away, and at a loss as to what I should tell her, without looking at it myself.... and I'm no guru thats for sure, I'd probably try to see if it would boot from the disk, but I'd be lost after that!

Any ideas?

A:Dell Computer Won't Boot

No video?

First thing I would check would be the connection between monitor and system and the power cord.

The fact that the system shuts down would seem to indicate a PS problem, with no further info (IMO).

I am sort of befuddled as to why a friends computer will not turn on. There is a green light on the mobo indicating that there is power to the computer, but no luck starting up. I have replaced the power button switch on the front of the computer, checked all power connections to the power supply and motherboard, made sure the outlet was good, and am at a loss as what to check for. She says that there was not a storm before having this problem, but did tell me her daughter shut down the computer by just pushing the power button. I didn't think it was that much of a deal seeing as how the computer is 3 yrs old, but I could be wrong. Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Dell computer will not turn on

Dell computers have a nasty habit of "locking up" at times. sometimes unplugging the computer and letting it sit for 30 minutes then plugging it back in will solve the problem and sometimes you have to strip the components and add them piece by piece until you get it working again.

the process is to remove ALL components except the processor( including disconnnecting monitor, keyboard, mouse). plug in and power up shut down unplug, add memeory plugin and power up, unplug add hard drive plugin power up, power off, unplug, add video card( if there is one) power up at this point you should be able to tell if it is booting or not. (actually once you start getting beeps during the add component\power up process it should be able to boot once all components are reinstalled.

it is a pain in the rear but it is the process Dell tech support would lead you thru if you called them. ( I had to do it three times. with my 4 year old dell, once it locked up after I switched a optical drive.) oh yeah before i forget each time you shutdown during the adding component process, after you unplug hold in the power button for several seconds to drain any residual power.

Hi, I have had a lot of trouble on my 6 year old Dell Desktop Dimension 2400 computer, it is too complex to go into detail here' but it has been a nightmare for nearly 4 weeks and I am still going to have do it all over again as in reinstall Win XP / or the drivers at least.

It crashes to Bluescreen every time I Insert a USB stick, Connect and start my Printer, or connect my Western Dig Ext HD which has all the stuff I backed up on.

The major problem was that I missed the "install order list" the first time (my own inexperience) but I have found another DELL list and it Contradicts the First order List anyway' Sooo! Is there a site where I can find out what I need the Order to install them and download them onto a Disk or USB as I had no internet when I first installed Widows XP that was the beginning of my downfall. I have been to DELL Forum's and tried to do the things they suggest but you cannot delete all the USB,s in Disc Manager/ Devices/ USB's/ as you have no Keyboard or Mouse half way through? Thanks if you can help Dasha

A:Can I use other drivers on a Dell computer

Wow. Yea. Sounds like your machine is currently "quite the mess"!

You should certainly start with the drivers on the Dell web site.

Always start with the chipset drivers. I'd do network and storage (IDE) drivers next then the others. Install drivers before installing the applications.

How far can you expand your average dell computer?

hey all, could someone tell me if i can change the motherboard in my factory dell vostro 410 desktop, so that i can replace it with a motherboard that is SLI enabled?

If so what motherboards should i be looking for, is there a specific one due to the size of the case?

Also, being a dell computer i realize your limited into what your changing, does that apply to the PSU and CPU?

Thank You, look forward to your replies

A:HELP: Expanding Dell Computer

The case is standard ATX size so a standard ATX motherboard will fit. Find one that is SLI enable. Since you are switching the motherboard out, why not build a PC from scratch? You'll have to look in the case but the PSU should be interchangeable.
