Dell Dimenstion 4800 WinXP

Q: Dell Dimenstion 4800 WinXP

I came across a PC that is
Dell Dimenstion 4800
WinXP
P4 2.8GHz
512RAM
80 GIG HDD
================
the problem is we though the OS was currupt or something so we decided to format and reinstall CLEAN INSTALL (format c: /v:WINXP)
The reason everythin was VERY slow, if you wanted to open msconfig you would wait for about 45 secoonds for it to popup. If you click on FILE it would make you wait for about 15 seconds, i ran bootvis, ad-aware, spybot,
- protection SYMANTEC CORP (latest definations)
- Office 2003 (all the updates)
- Windows XP (all the updates)
=============
guess what?
Formatting and re-installing didn't help,
- all we have on that computer right now is
- Windows XP (all the updates)
- Office 2003 (all the updates)
- Adobe Acrobat 4 (full) (we had 6 before but lost the cd)
- Symantec Corp (latest definations)
My questions is the computer is sitll same it has not made any difference from before.

Any help out there would be appreciated.

Thanks

Can I install WinXP Pro from older Dell laptop on to new Dell laptop?

I am using a Dell Inspiron 8200 right now and in order to save some money on my new Dell laptop, I'd like to order Home or MediaCenter with the new computer and then install WinXP Pro myself instead of paying the extra $119 to have them do it. I have a Reinstallation CD of WinXP Pro that came with the old Dell laptop; will I be able to use it to install WinXP Pro on my new one?

Thanks.

probably not no. they are usually pretty good at stopping people install their restore discs onto different systems.

I had to replace the hard drive on a Dell optiplex 170L. I have a reinstallation disk for the system with sp2. Installation was going well, then stopped with a fatal error 800b0100. Said the signature for setup was invalid. What next?

A:Reinstall winxp pro on dell

I've often found that its a smudge, scratch or bad pressed CD that give bad signature or CRC errors during install. Check the CD, try to clean it off and try again. Also, you want to check the compatibility of the new hard disk, some older PCs have problems with large capacity hard drives.

hello all!
I told my father in law about DELLs wonderful deal they were having.. his system was older and kept crashing, so instead of rebuilding it (which would cost him $600) I suggested to him to buy this DELL for $504 complete! great deal for him..

anyway.. he did.. and I transfered everything over, had it working perfectly. It was slower then my XP, but was still nicer then his old system.

then everything went downhill.. he had his neighbor come over and install Printshop pro (I think that was it??) and some Quicken program.. I asked him why he needed all these and he siad.. "I DONNO".. DUAH.. then dont' put them on there if you don't use them..

at Thanksgiving he asks me "I thought that thing was supposed to have a CDRom.. " I said.. "IT DOES.. that's how we loaded all the programs.. ".. well.. then he said that my sister in law had come down and took off the Norton I had set up, and put on McAffee.. (which I read takes a lot of resources to run, and slows things down.. ) and that's when the CDrom stopped working, and now he looses his connection all the time..

well.. apparently my sister in law has a MASTERS degree in computers or something.. so gee.. I guess she knows best eh?

anyway.. he calls me the other day and tells me that now it won't start up at all.. first thing it says that CDRom was not detected.. press F1 continue.. (sister in law told him.. oh. that's ok.. just hit F1) so after a few we... Read more

I just got a second-hand Dell Optiplex GX260. The original purchaser bought it with XP pre-loaded, and had only the reinstallation CD, which I got. Unfortunately, the CD says "This CD is not for reinstallation of programs or drivers." This apparently is true as I'm finding that I have to use the device mfr's disk to get drivers whenever I attach something to the computer. I was wondering if there's a separate driver disk that came with computer (the guy I bought from doesn't recall), and if so, where I can get one. I tried calling Dell, but got tired of pressing and holding.

Greetings,

My Dell Vostro 400 CPU is stuck at 100%, services.exe is 70-90% usage. Paid subscription of Norton 360 protection, updated regularly and do full scans every other week or so. Running XP Home (legit version) 4g max os memory, Intel Core2 Duo E6550 @ 2.33GHz.

Ran CCleaner this morning including registry cleaner and whabamm problems a plenty. Cannot do a system restore point. Ccleaner cannot merge backup registry back into registry. Barely anything works and when it does, it takes an incredibly long time to progress.

hello, I have a Dell Dimension 8200 with Win XP Pro, due to a long list of miseries I will be reformatting and doing a clean install.

Question - do I *have* to use my OEM disc which is pre-SP 1? Or if I spend the money to save the agony is it ok to buy a fresh Msoft WinXp Pro that already has SP2 on it?

A UK forum was talking about trouble if you tried to replace an OEM Msoft Win Xp with the "real " thing.

Any advice (besides that I'm nuts to spend the money, but this has taken uncountable hours and energy)??? Thanks!

Because I've been trying my 1980s spare monitor, due to my electrosensitivity to my LCD (& btw the CRT is indeed less harmful to my electrosensitivity maybe because of its dimness capability) my display & printout are wacky, because it sprawls over 2 pages when it's supposed to be just one page.

Is this a problem with the Dell's videocard being incompatible with this old monitor? If so, any solution available?

A:Error 12007 Dell Winxp

Hi renn_j,

There could be a number of reasons for the internet disconnection. 12007 means that IE cannot connect so it is trying at least.

If you aren't sure how to do any of the following then repost. I apologise if I have covered old ground from the previous forum too.

Did it suddenly stop working? Has it ever worked? Did this happen after problems with malware?

Do you have another browser installed? Often another one will connect with no problem

Is there a proxy set on Internet Explorer?

Have you checked the security level on your firewall?

Sometimes the add-ons on IE can cause problems so it might be an idea to switch them off and then if that works slowly add them on until the problem add-on is identified.

It is possible that malware is present. If nothing above works then perhaps it would be worth posting in our "Am I Infected" thread.

That's a lot to cover. Hope it's not too much...

Dell Dimension E520

The machine came with Vista but it doesn't work with any of the applications that we need. We just went out and dropped the wad of cash on Windows XP and resized the hard drive with the Vista Disk Management.

When we boot into the WinXP cd, it loads all the drivers etc but when it gets to "Starting Windows XP" screen at the end of the driver loading (no graphics yet), it suddenly bluescreens and says to check for a virus or run a checkdisk. We tried this a number of times and its not working.

Due to the fact that nothing is set yet for installation, the WinXP disk should _not_ be even yet touching the hard disk, just loading into RAM. The machine is new and has 2GB of RAM on it, more than enough for an XP install.

Does anyone know what could be the issue? I am wondering if we have to find/install additional drivers at the initial XP disk loading, but I am not sure.

Worst of all this is costing us hundreds of dollars just because of Vista. We tried the VMWare image but that didn't work either (see http://www.vmware.com/community/thread.jspa?threadID=86249 )

Please, any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi,
I had dual boot on my system with Win XP Home (came with laptop) and Fedora 7(which I installed). One fine or unfortunate day as I left my latop with windows xp and went out for a while some media direct thing was running and it restarted my comp. After that I was getting blue screen whenver I boot into Win XP. I thought I could repair it with the recovery disks that came with the laptop. But when I boot with the recovery CD , it displays "Setup is inspecting your computers hardware configuration" for 2 seconds and the screen remains blank. Nothing happens. Thinking that the recovery CD might not be good I tested on my friends Dell 640m laptop. It works fine in that. It proceeded further after checking the hardware configuration. Can anyone tell me how I can resolve this problem.

Thanks.

I had to reinstall WinXP on my Dell XPS M1530, and now Windows doesn't detect the bluetooth unit. The symbol in the line with power buttons etc is lighted though. I have software from before, but could only copy, not install it. What I find works only in Vista. Broadcom's own bluetooth software does neither detect a bluetooth nor work without that. In the control panel there is no icon for bluetooth, even though Windows help suggests exactly that.

Does anyone know how to do that? It worked before, but now I can't figure out how, even after hours of googling...

Best regards

Everytime I reboot the computer, skype (since it launches at start up) tells me that there are no sound devices. I go to the device manager, but the sound device is listed. It doesn't work though. I try winamp/wmp etc, no sound. So I do a uninstall, and redetect and its all good.

Now if I reboot the computer, I have to repeat this whole process. Now, I thought this had something to do with the onboard audio, so I diabled that in the Bios, and added a pci sound card, but the same thing happened.

Does anyone know whats going on??

This computer also has issues with WinXP sp2s firewall. I can't turn it on, but thats an issue for some other thread..

I have 2 Dell Dimension computers, a 2400 and a 4700, both running WinXP SP2, and both with Intel chipsets. The 4700 has been hit with a virus. I have a spare HDD and want to put Windows, etc on the spare 7using the 2400, and then put that spare into the 4700, discarding the infected HD. I have the reinstall CDs that came with each machine. My questions are:

1. Which reinstall CD should I use?
2. Can I set up the HDD in one machine and then use it in the other?
3. Or should I just remove the infected HD from the 4700, put in the spare, and set it up there?

The reason I want to do the setup in the other machine is because the 2 computers are in
different towns, and I'd like to leave the infected one where it is (it's still somewhat usable).

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

The situation: This PC was not protected from virusues, etc, etc, for 2 years.

I wanted to delete both petitions, set up the one particition as active, format it and start clean to get everything back on in good shape..

Problem: The Dell install disk would only let me delete a tiny FAT particition of 40 mb but not the big one where all the propblems live.

In the next screen, Dell's CD told me I would be writing a duplicate program on top of a program and create problems. (That is a new one on me!) So I stopped the installation to think about it. Now when I turn it on, the PC starts and stops repeatedly. looping endlessly !!

I tried to get into the bios again to guide activity to a new Cd with a Winxp pro disk in it, but the F12 key command doesn't work (logo is being skipped), and the Dell PC ignores the XP pro CD anyway--it just keeps on restarting..........

How can I shake this Dell Dimeniosn 2350 PC out of it's daze? I can't return it to my friend this way!

Just for curiosity-----
Why didn't it let me delete the main partition so i could totally destroy those bad files. It's breaking all the install rules I know!

Help would be apreciated--counting on some of you brains out there!

Okay, so here's what's happening.

I'm fixing a computer that got a very nasty virus from Limewire. I have backed everything up, but I don't think there's actually anything wrong with the filesystem.

I just want to reinstall Windows over top of the existing installation so it doesn't have to redo the entire filesystem and will replace the system files so none of the programs/files will be effected.

When I try to boot up into the XP SP2 install CD, It will not recognize any hard drives. Obviously, the computer has hard drives in it.

if some one could help me get rid of the virus (I believe it's one of those nasty pdf bugs) or figure out how to do an install of windows over top of the existing one without formatting the drive, I would appreciate it. These are my only two options, the client will not accept any other option.

This is URGENT. I have given ALL the information I possibly can. Thanks.

Hi, hoping for a Dell Guru!

I have a problem with a friend's machine and unfortunately I have 'more accomplished user status' than him and somehow got roped into this problem.

We live in China, he bought a new Dell 2010 with Chinese UBUNTU onboard - everyone assured him he could put on English Windows XP when he bought it so he scrubbed the harddrive and loaded on XP (original disk, an amazing discovery in China!!)

So he got it working ok, but of course it has some issues in missing drivers (no resource CD, because UBUNTU OS). And the place he bought it from will only service a Chinese OS, not English OS, so we are a little stuck.

Drivers missing are
1) audio
2) One called SM driver which I believe is 'chipset' and should have been installed first, but I don't have a copy!
3) PCI (no internet/network card connection working so probably that!)

Issue is that we don't have a Dell Diagnostic disk for this machine or a partition backup (it was UBUNTU). And Dell seems to recommend Win7 as the desired OS on it's websites.

Win7 is not most desirable solution (old system, can't update machines and previous compatibility issues make my friend 'unhappy' to do this) - so looking to see if we can get drivers from somewhere that are applicable.

Any ideas most welcomed!

A:Dell Dimension 2010 Ubuntu to WinXP conversion

Dell lists drivers for Vista and Wn7 only on that model.

Lets go with the DEV & VEN numbers form Device Manager>

To open "Device Manager", right click on "My Computer" (Computer in Vista/Win7) select Properties, On the Hardware tab Select Device Manager, if you see any yellow question marks, right click on the device and select properties, on the Details tab select Hardware IDs copy the PCI/VEN and DEV numbers and post them on your next post.

I have a Dell 4300 that I inherited from my dad, running WinXP-home, with a factory Conexant v.92 56K voice modem When I install AOL, or NetZero either, (I tried that too) everything seems to connect fine until it gets to downloading the list of access numbers. At that point, the modem disconnects. I have run all the diagnostics I can find, and connected through Hyperterminal, and it all checks out fine, no problems. I have even installed two other modems, added +MS=V34 to the commands, changed the default to read the same, set the speed to 9600 baud, tried to force it to use Com 3 (it defaults to the next available, Com 5), and I have run out of ideas. Same deal (or worse) every time. I am currently on line with my old computer, using exactly the same phone line, even the same cord. It is slow, I'll admit, because I live in the boondocks, but it does work just fine. So why won't the other one work? I have a feeling that some setting in the bios is causing a conflict, but nothing I've tried there works either. Does anyone have any ideas? Oh, and I talked to my dad, he used the same modem and never had any problems. I am obviously out of my league here...

A:56k Modem Won't Connect, Dell 4300 Winxp-home

If you are not using your serial ports go into your BIOS and disable them. I had a similar problem and XP Home kept wanting to grab the IRQ3 serail port. I could not change the setting in Windows for whatever reason so I disabled the ports. It's not like I use them anyway.

Hi,I was probably infected on the night of Dec 13/14th. Noticed that my desktop background had changed to a green background with black text box saying that my computer has been infected. Since I had to go on vacation I just pulled the internet cord out to prevent additional problemware from getting installed on my computer or sending my information over to other computers on the net.I have come back from vacation now and am now beginning the work required to fix my pc. First things that I have noticed - I don't have access to Task manager, rightclicking in the Tray shows me a grayed out Task Manager option Regedit doesn't seem to work. It displays a message "Registry Editing has been disabled by your administrator". But I'm running in an administrator account. I can't boot to Safe Mode. When I tried, it displayed a BSOD. I can boot normally and displays my normal WinXP screen with a listing of all the users. However when logging in with password, prior to showing my desktop it shows a dialog box saying that I've been infected by "Worm.Win32.Netsky" and assigns it a '5' rating (from a 0-5 scale). Closing the dialog (using the x) leads me to my desktop whose background is now different. There is a program called "Internet Security 2010" that automatically starts up and is warning me of multiple infections. Hello,

I have a Dell optiplex GX270 desktop running Winxp Pro OS . My issue is, after my computer was returned back to me from a friend, it was unable to boot to windows. The error message indicated that the following file is missing or corrupt:

WINDOWS \ SYSTEM32 \ CONFIG \ SYSTEM

I have reset the bios, then I inserted the original Dell reinstallation cd for Windows xp professional . Then, I tried the (ASR) method first; but the problem with that is, it prompt for the ASR floppy disk. (In which I do not have a floppy drive.) Is there another option? Is there a way I can aquire such file and possible download and burn a bootable copy onto a cd? Run it that way?

Please help..... Thank you in advance.

A:System Recovery for Dell Optiplex Gx270 Winxp Pro OS

Boot off of the Windows Disc Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the newly created CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Drive Fitness Test in my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn and boot off of the newly created CD and run the short and extended tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

I am not sure how it happened, but my secondary drive (which is a DVD/CD RW) that came with my Dell Windows XP Dimension Desktop computer has recently stopped working. I wont light up, and it wont open or respond to anything, and the computer says its working fine. It does respond for a few seconds when the computer is starting up, however, and If I've pressed the open button, the drive will open the next time the computer starts up.

Does anyone have any idea whats going on?

Thanks a bunch,

First off, hello to everyone.

A friend of my dads, his computer had been infected with spyware or viruses or something and he had it taken care of by some other group of people (I do not know who he asked to help resolve the issue), and he said that he is no longer getting sounds from it.

I did some looking around at his request and noticed there was a few other errors and things wrong.

Needless to say, now I am just stuck on aspects of trying to resolve the PCI Card error which is displayed as a Yallow ? on the device drivers page. I did some searching around, went to Dells Support page, and tried both of the audio drivers as well as the COnexant PCI card drivers it mentioned, but nothing seems to be working.

It makes me wonder. If they indeed formatted and had to reinstall the OS, could it be possible they installed things in the wrong order?

He has a Windows XP Home Premium Computer. It is Service Pack 3 as well. It is known as a Dell Vostro 200. He still has the Driver Cds that came with it, and it seems to mention the PCI card could be some form of communications modem. But, I get the feeling that is not the case as he is not getting sound, so I assume it could be something more.

I tried installing the Conexant Drivers, as well as the Creative Labs and Realtek Audio drivers as well for it, but unfortunatly, nothing seems to work.

Could it be possible that I may need to format the computer, install the Windows OS, then the Core Drivers and then the individual driv... Read more

A:PCI Card/Sound issues on WinXP SP3 Dell Vostro 200

What is this "PCI card error" that you refer to?

FWIW: There is no order to install drivers.

If there is a device reflected in Device Manager as requiring drivers...I would simply insert the original drivers CD and allow it to self-install, rather than manually trying to install random drivers.

The Dell drivers for that system can be downloaded from the Dell website, if you choose not to use the Dell CD.

A few months ago, I purchased two Dell Dimension 3000 systems with2.8 GHz and 1 GB RAM and Win XP Home edition service pack 2. I put one into service back then and the second one into service this week.
Using either IE 6.0, or Firefox, the first one displays web page menu links and cells pooly, with no background graphics (tabs, colors, etc.). Also, it displays type very large, even though both machines are set for the same medium type styles.
On Yahoo, for instance, all three columns don't fit on the screen. The middle column hogs the screen and right scrolls down, then the left column and finally the right column. My second Dell 3000 displays everything perfectly.
Settings on both machines are the same. Display properties are 1024 by 768 and Highest 32 bit color. Both DPI are 96. When I click on Settings- Advanced and then Intel Extreme graphics 2, there is a difference.
The good machine shows Intel 82865G Graphics controller 6.12.10.4020. The troubled one shows a message "more visual display options for devices attached... such as Television, digital display... are available here". When Graphics properties are clicked the good machine brings up a properties window with six tabs (Device, colow, schemes, hot keys, rotation, information). The trouble machine brings up a window saying single display monitor with directions for connecting a second monitor. Both systems are connected to Acer AL1913W 19" monitors. Hello, i've recently bought a 4800 radeon graphics card and it just hit 92 degrees C, that is incredibly high, is it safe?

A:Is my 4800 too hot?

Did it hit 92c on load or idle?

On load it's pretty hot but still acceptable. It could be due to a warm ambient temperature or inadequate air flow in the case. Or maybe just that the card runs a little hot.

On idle it's a serious issue.

It would be better if you gave us a few more specifics regarding the make and model of the card.

I am temporarily trying to use an old HP Pavillion Monitor which was on a windows 95 system on a pieced together Dell System running windows XP, it begins to load as if everything is fine, then the self diagnosis alert comes up asking if the display settings on PC are correct.. Before I can input any information, the screen goes gray and of course won't accept any information at all. Can someone help me with this ? We are in a very small / remote town and need this until we can replace it. if this is just incompatible, can anyone tell me if the monitor we were using Dell 2007WFP(b) can be replaced with a Dell S 2009 W - what changes would be necessary ? Thank you for your assistance.

A:trying to use a HP win95 monitor on a Dell winXP system settings msj. goes gray

Any VGA monitor should work it doesn't need to be a Dell. The monitors Default resolution may be too low for XP, when Windows tries to correct it, to a higher Resolution, the monitor fails. Try booting into Safe Mode and use the monitor controls on the front of the monitor to see if you can change the default resolution to something higher. Then boot into Normal Mode, Right click a blank spot on the Desktop./Properties/Screen Resolution and try pushing the bar to the right.

Good evening,

I work for a law firm that uses Dell Optiplex's ranging from 745's to 790's with all inbetween [745, 755, 760, 780, 790]. Our NJ satellite office also has these Dell model ranges, but all of them have Windows XP SP3 installations. These machines generally either have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Drivers or the ATI Radeon HD 3400 series card/drivers for those models that do not have an available display port. With that said, all machines have dual monitor setups as well.

The issue, put simply: almost a 1/4 of the PC's in our NJ office lose their second monitor on almost a daily basis, where we either have to re-extend the desktop to the other monitor or we have to play the unplug/shutdown/re-plugin game with the display port adaptors.

We're about to run a report containing the following information for the affected machines: OS, BIOS, Video Chipset, Connector Type [VGA2DP, DVI2DP, DP2DP], Power Save Settings. However, I'd like to throw this forum post out there to see if anyone knows any specific Windows XP Pro SP3 issues that exist with utilizing dual monitors on these machine types and/or how to resolve them. Thanks in advance for those who can assist me with any information.

Therefore, i was able to load the driver via floppy disk as suggested and succeeded to have my SATA detected and copied the xp files , but the problem is that once it reboots i got a black screen, means that i could not see any image (invite to complete the installation). the black screen flashes (comes and goes without having the time to see the screen).. What is the problem and what would be the solution .. thanks in advance..

For that to work did you enable the SATA feature in the BIOS and I would burnt drivers for SATA to CD instead for FD. Check with DELL support to see if their is anything you need to get that DELL SATA HDD working again.

Hello,

I'm trying to reinstall Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 4600 using the WinXP Home System Recovery disk. I'm not sure if that disk was the one that came with that computer or not, but the reformatting procedure was going fine until the screen changed to a black screen with "Gateway" displayed on it in large white lettering with a white scrolling progress bar that animated for a few seconds, then froze. I figured that the reformatting process would take a long time, so I walked away, but several hours later, I found that the screen hadn't changed at all and the computer didn't seem to be doing anything aside from just sitting there, displaying that same image.

Am I doing something wrong, or is there something wrong with the computer itself (e.g., I'm not using the correct System Recovery disc)?

EDIT: I almost forgot -- I'm planning on donating this computer, so I'm not concerned with losing any data on it.

Hi all.

I need to get some video off of my camcorder, so I bought a 3 port firewire card from Belkin.

I intstalled the card into an open PCI slot beneath my video card, closed everything back up, and turned on the power, nothing happened. My CPU was getting power, but there was no signal to the monitor, or anything else. Windows never loaded, and no other

I changed the card into another open slot and the same thing happened again. I took the card out, and it booted up normally.

I have a Dell Dimension 4550, running WinXP. I don't think there should be a problem like this. I spent half an hour on hold with Belkin tech support before I had to attend to my 15 month old who trapped himself in a closet.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

My husband's Dell laptop has been having crash problems intermittently for the past few months, usually while using the latest Firefox (not surprising because web browsing is mostly what he uses the laptop for), but he believes it stems back to a Windows update -- not sure which one exactly, but whichever one gave him the new IE with tabs. The computer has been twitchy ever since then.

Last week things progressed to Windows not starting up at all and consistently bringing up a BSoD upon every restart - Normal, Safe Mode, and Last Known Good Configuration.

In the BSoD, there is not a specific file or driver listed as the problem. Here is the STOP error code we consistently see:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x86F59E7A, 0xF79907B8, 0xF79904B4)
(I can transcribe the entire blue screen text if that is necessary)

I tried to use the Dell support site to troubleshoot the problem -- I followed the "guided path" tech support, trying each recommended step, none of which did anything. I stopped when I got to the suggestion to open the laptop and unplug all the third-party devices plugged into the motherboard. Knowing me, I'd get electrocuted. And we didn't alter the hardware once we got it from the factory anyway.

I ran Diagnostics and the memory passed all the tests. On the Dell "Windows XP Blue Screen Troubleshooting" page, it suggests updating the BIOS or rolling back any updates. I have no idea how to do any of those things when Windows won't ... Read more

On a Dell Dimension 9200 I downloaded and installed the latest MS updates for the WinXP Media Edition. After the install the computer had to restart to complete the install. I let it do its thing while I got a coffee. Half an hour later the computer still had not shut down and was on the last phase of it. I let it go for another 2 hours to come back to find no progress had been made so after not getting any response from Ctl, Alt, /Delete I resorted to helping the shutdown by using the power off button. Since then (5 days ago) I have been trying everything to get it to boot up again; it only boots to before the bios. That is the CDs lights come on along with the numbers at the front bottom and from then the power fan runs at what seems full speed. The numbers showing at the front panel are 3 and 4. Pushing any of the F keys has no effect. Could someone help me here please?

Of course it's not worth the $600 extra, but the top of the line items are never "worth" what they cost.
You can save a nice $260 if you buy it at zipzoomfly, they have good ratings like newegg.

I have the problem of "setup did not find any hard disk drives". I have a Dell Precision 690 with Intel Xeon dual core processors. The IDE ATA Controller is Intel 631xESB SATA. The hard drive has 700 GB.

64-bit Windows does not have drivers for some of the most important software I use, so I wish to be able to do dual-booting on this computer. I bought a 200 GB Maxtor drive and installed it. When I tried to boot with a Windows XP CD in the drive, I got the famous message "setup did not find any hard disk drives ?". I have tried all the options discussed in this forum with no luck. In particular:
1. I used nlite to slipstream the SATA drivers which I downloaded from the Intel website. I downloaded both the 32-bit (f6flpy32.exe) and the 64-bit (f6flpy64.exe) drivers. I created the WinXP CD and booted from it. Every time I get the message "iastor.sys is corrupted" and the booting was aborted. I tried all combinations of slipstreamed CDs (Win 2000, XP SP4, etc) but with no luck. Note that I also copied the driver files from the C drive of the x64 installation and got the same problem.
2. I then tried the floppy diskette idea. I saved the driver files in a floppy and during booting I hit F6 and tried loading the drivers (one at a time and in combination). I got the same error message. Sometimes I got the message that the drivers I am trying to install were newer than the ones in the CD. I tried both accepting and rejecting the use of th... Read more

Hi .

Do this...Start/Run...type msinfo32 and hit Enter. Click Components/Display. Post what's listed in the right screen for the 1st, 3d, and 4th lines.

Do you have your Dell drivers CD?

Don't do any of the following yet . I need to figure out the correct drivers you need first.

The ati3duag.dll error...should be your video drivers. They are probably damaged, maybe not. In any case, I suggest uninstalling them (using device manager)...then running the chkdsk /r command...then reinstalling the video drivers.

Start/Run...type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter. Click Display Adapter, double-click the specific item now displayed. Click Driver tab, click the Uninstall button.

To run chkdsk /r....Start/Run...type chkdsk /r (exactly as shown here) and hit Enter. Type Y in response to new screen and hit Enter. Reboot the system.

The command will execute...then boot into XP.

Just a thought but have you tried something as simple as connect automatically in the internet options settings?(internet options,

I know its a simple thing but its easy to overlook,my xp will do this occasionally after using my dual booting Lubuntu,no idea why.
I asked a programer why a clean system would do this and he said even
a small electrical surge could cause a setting change,so who knows.

If that doesnt work it might be time to repair the internet, reset the win sock etc..hopefully you dont have a viral issue messing with your settings.

I have had some problems in the past with the HD 4800 drivers, where I needed to install unlicensed ones for certain games to run. And there used to be some display crashes while I played certain games on my PC. But yesterday, while playing a game, the monitor simply displayed "No signal detected" and went to a black screen. Restarting the computer didn't help, because after all the loading screens, right when it would show the desktop, it goes black. I did boot it up in safe mode, installed default Windows drivers, and boot it up in normal mode. But that only seems to make it work in normal mode for a short period of time, before it crashes again. One more thing: The motherboard screen, when booting up the pc, looks bugged out. There are some display glitches on it. So my question is: is my video card fried? Or is it a driver problem? And how do I solve it?

A:ATI Radeon HD 4800 is crashing my PC.

Also, some additional information: I am running on Windows 8.1.

And I just tried, before it crashed in normal mode, to update the drivers to the HD 4800 ones again, and it crashed to a cyan screen, and the error specified is: "VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE". Also, it might be coming from the outside, but I think I smell a soft fry smell around the pc (I clenaed it from dust yesterday).

The temperature of my cpu, according to the SpeedFan software, remained around 25 degree C. My computer has been running just fine for the last few days. Now, I am wondering, is it worth overclocking this processor for such a small gain since I understand that overclocking a cpu can shorten its life expectancy?

Thanks

Your tiny overclock of 125MHz will not shorten the life of your processor because you didn't raise the voltage or add any significant heat.

I was browsing through dual core processor reviews and saw that the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ was the best. I looked at prices at shopping.com and several other sites and was confused. I found two processors with identical specs except for L1 cache sizes. One had 128 KB, and the other had 256. The price was also three times larger for the one with the larger L1 cache ($310 vs. $1083.) They had the same model number (except the pricier one had AMD at the beginning, but it varied on other sites). I am now confused. Is it some kind of typo? And if it isn't, why do that have the same name and model number? Also, would the larger cache be worth the extra $773? I know caches are important, but how important?

I'm getting ready to build a new computer and was wondering if it's worth it to spend the extra money on the 4800 over the 4400. Money isn't really the issue, although I won't spend $1000 on the FX-60, I just wan't to spend wisely. I may overclock some, but not much, so I basically need straight out of the box power. I do game often, but mostly recode and burn movies. I defianately want to go dual core to be future proof, and have had my mind set on the 4800, but thought I might give the 4400 some consideration since it's about $200 less. I already have an athlon 64 3400 which is 2.4 , so I want to make sure I don't lose much by going to the 2.2 X2 4400. I'm also using a 300 Gb Maxtor diamond max 10 SATA hard drive, adding 2GB OCZ ram, and a Radeon X1900XT.

A:Athlon X2 4400 or 4800

you might as well go with the 4800 since your mind is already set. And I think you'll be much happier instead of always wondering why you didn't buy it.

Hello, first post so i apologize for the noobness in advance.

I recently had problems with this network adapter, and I've tried everything from reinstalling drivers, to not allowing windows to turn it off to save power. I've tried managing the throttling, and I've tried closing every single program.

The problem is when I am surfing normally, it seems normal, but as soon as I try a game that requires a lot of bandwidth, for example League of Legends, it begins normally but as soon as the 5 minute mark hits, I get ping spikes like crazy. I was using a Buffalo USB adapter for the longest time and I thought it was the adapter itself but when I moved the the TP Link one, which has way higher transfer speed and 3 antennas I thought it would change. But it hasn't. I've put in this adatper for about 2 weeks ago, and nothing I've tried has fixed the problem

Alright, so this is a compability question regarding a 2006 MB and a 2008 CPU:

I'm about to make a rather expensive deal, so before I do this, I need to know if there are any incompatible facts need to know of.

The deal: I want to upgrade my motherboard with a new CPU.

Current setup:
CPU: AMD Athlon II 3700+ - 2219MHz FSB
Motherboard: Asus A8N-E (Targa Edition)
Memory: 2GbB DDR SDRAM (4*Siemens 512MbB ~350MHz) OC
Videocard: 1GbB XFX (ATi) Radeon HD4550 Passive, 512MbB HyperX included
Cooling: Cat-hair
Soundcard/Speakers: Sweex SC015 7.1 / Pioneer SE-L40 from 1972 & Panasonic RX-CS780
Hard Disk(s): 2*7200rpm Hitachi, 300GbB, 1024GbB

The newer CPU in question: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+

My old board has socket 939, and the newer CPU has socket 939 (this, I'm sure of).

The current PSU has a total power-coefficient of 350W, but I have a 600W just laying around if I need to upgrade that part.

Any thoughts? Like, "the motherboard's chipset doesn't support X2-CPU's" or anything like that would be greatly appreciated.

And I do not want any comments about my PC being obsolete or "just buy a new PC instead."

Edit:
Ha, get this: the OEM manufacturer of the motherboard vs CPU stated that they made a mistake regarding the name back in 2006 - resulting in this Athlon 64 or Athlon II question. It is an Athlon 64 CPU, but it's called Athlon II by the manufacturer of the specific board vs. CPU configuration.

A:Compatibility question AMD 4800+

It is supported. For a list of compatible processors for a given motherboard, you can always go to Asus' website. Here's yours: http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=DzbA8hgqchMBOVRz&templete=2

Click on the tab, CPU Support List.

I have bought this graphics board for which ASUS does not supply a User Manual!
My main problem is about using the Video-In capability. As I cannot find any control software for the board, at the exception of some working parameters, I tried to connect the S-VHS output of my video camera to the board, through the adaptor cable, in the hope it would detect it and the display was made. Nothing happened.

Does anyone know how to work with this board, or where I can get detailed information?

Regards,

You have so many different causes that we have to start somewhere. with that many causes we must think hardware. The first thing to check is memory
Download memtestx86 and run it for 5 passes.

If it passes run a system file check
(type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow)

Having asked questions on this forum and the W7 forum, I have successfully installed W10hp 32bit on an old socket 939 Athlon X2 4800+ machine. It was suggested that 64 bit was also likely to work. Microsoft's upgrade would not work because the processor lacked the correct instruction set. I found that a clean install from an iso, I burned a dvd, but a usb would also have worked. The 32bit installation only used 11.5gb of the ssd and activated fine with the W7 product key.
I wonder how many people who want 10 have been put off by the upgrade path requiring higher specs than a clean install?

Hey guys, Just thought I'd chime in and throw a thoughtful tip out there. If your thinking of purchasing any sort of ATI 4800 Series card, don't expect to over clock it. They seem to be what you see is what you get.

When and if you try, your computer will cease to function correctly until you restart in Safe mode and uninstall the program which you used to over clock it, or B start windows from the boot loader screen on hitting the INS key (this is not proven to work every time).

Catalyst 9.2 has a nice over clocking program which comes with it in the catalyst control center (CCC), but the only remedy to this is when you over clock it too much, and it fails, on your next boot it will go back to the state at which the settings were set before.

Hope this avoids some headaches in the future.

I was able to get by for almost a year with this problem, but it's finally starting to get on my nerves.

I have a ATI Radeon HD 4890... I can run fine for a couple hours normally... but if I watch a youtube/streamed video or something, I start getting artifiacts and sometimes I'll get a message saying my drivers have stopped working or something. If I watch another video I'll get the blue screen of death... it's pretty much inevitable that my computer sessions end with the blue screen. But if I wait for 10 minutes I can just boot back up like nothing happened!

I've already tried updating the drivers numerous times... Maybe this card isn't compatible with my mobo, Gigabyte UD3H?

Help please, I'm getting desperate!

A:Had GFX problems for a year [Radeon HD 4800]

A gpu cannot be inompatible with a obo, unless you can't physically fit it in thee board.

It sounds like a heat issue, seeing as you can wait 10 minutes.

Have you checked them to see what the card gets to?

I usually recommend hwmonitor from www.cpuid.com

Temps on the gpu shouldn't be more than 70 or 80C tops

hello, i have a problem - recently i got a tv with a vga port and decided i would dual screen it with my monitor. I bought a DVI to VGA cable and plugged it into my monitor and used my VGA to VGA into my TV,

When i boot up it seems alright - it loads i can drag windows across etc; catalyst control center (CCC) recognises it, but whenever i change the resolution on the TV(2nd monitor) it just goes black for about 10 seconds and then flashes my desktop and then goes grey and i have to turn it off by holding the power button. Other times when i have left the res alone the displays will both randomly freeze and go grey.

Would this have anything to do with the TV's Refresh rate as in CCC it is N/A.
Is this the TV - PC compatability or is my card falling apart?

I have a feeling its the crummy ATI drivers but uninstalling them is a real task. Or properly uninstalling them that is.

thanks in advance

I bought a PNY Verto Geforce4 Ti4600, but when i install it, my computer reads it as a Ti4800!!

I've tried uninstalling my drivers and manually install it from a list as a Ti4600 but some applications still crashes.

It's hard for me to point out at which applications will crash and which will not. I know Futuremark's 3Dmark2001 SE crashes at different tests each time. Some games I'll have no squeek of a problem at all. Unreal 2 worked fine, but Jedi Academy will crash every so often. You could point to the different engines used by the games I guess.

Anyone heard of this problem? Seems like I'll have to buy a different card.

Hi everyone,

Sorry to say I haven't been here in ages. I haven't fiddled with computer hardware in a very long time (just lucky I guess) and am a little bit out of the loop. I need to know if I can swap a 4800+ CPU with and 6400+. The board is an HP M2N61-AR

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...1559&cc=ca&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_CAEN

Here are the specs for the 6400+

http://tinyurl.com/3lmbxzf

I think socket and voltage are OK. It's the wattage that has me worried. The 4800+ says 65 W while the 6400+ says 125 W. I just don't know what that implies. If anybody has an idea, I'm all ears...

Oh! One last thing. I plan on using the stock heatsink and fan from the 4800+. The one from the 6400+ is just too big and won't fit inside the tiny case of the HP Slimline s3200n. Also, the way the heatsink and fan kit connects to the board is very different. Am I going to run into overheating problems? I'm looking to bump up the speed a little. The machine is being used for light computing. Mostly kids games, internet and E-mail. Nothing very demanding...

Thanks in advance,

HD 4800 series: an everlasting solution or a milestone for AMD?
As many people know, AMD has just released the all new HD 4800 series of video cards: the cheap welterweight HD 4850, the heavy-duty HD 4870, and the red devil that will be coming soon, the HD 4870 X2. The cards are awesome in action on game benchmarks, and even break into the game that was known to put computers down to their knees, Crysis, especially when Xfire'd together. But what really got me curious with these to-good-to-be-true graphics solutions is how AMD did it in order to earn the performance crown and to see if there are some downsides of these improvements which should be noted to today's enthusiast or gamer.

One of the most biggest improvements is that AMD completely redesigned the Core's ring bus. which can be shown here:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3341&p=9

With this big change, the HD 4800 series is almost completely immune to Anti-Aliasing performance impacts on most of today's popular titles, such examples are shown here, I guess for the low res gamers the freedom of no jagged-lines is just something you can't get enough of. But AMD's go a long way to make framerates in the hundreds a dream come true:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3341&p=10

Now moving on to Xfire performance, since Xfire is by the looks of it in this series' blood, I feel like showing it off as its more than true:

I read about a similar problem, but as a novice of novices, am not sure that the solution there applies to me. I have a Dell ACPT x64 based PC (8 gig of ram) with a Dell installed ATI Radeon HD 4800 accelerator with two Samsung monitors: SyncMaster 906 BW and a 2033SW.

My problem is that almost every day and sometimes two or three times a day, my monitors freeze up and begin to flash. The computer then dumps everything and reboots. This seems to happen more often when the computer wakes up from sleep mode, but there is no definite pattern.

I am not a gamer, and therefore don't have super heavy demands on my system.

I live in Uruguay, South America, where a friend who runs a ciber cafe tells me that there is a problem with the Radeon Accelerators, and recommends replacing mine. I am certainly open to suggestions.

Thanks!!

Hi.
Please help me understanding what is causing my current BSOD(s)!

I have given up myself after some weeks of on/off analyses and tries of repairs ? after reading forum posts (a very lot on this issue exists!).

I cannot decode dumps so hopefully someone here can interpret the data attached to something useful and point out the cure for my problem.

Bottom line of my somewhat long story below is that I cannot get rid of the 116 stop code ? which means that I cannot utilize my ATI Radeon HD 4800 video card device anymore.

Currently if I want to use my pc, my video card device must be Standard VGA!

Please don?t hesitate asking for any clarification.

Thanks in advance.

On my Dell XPS430 since 2009 I have had a combination of (OEM) Windows Vista Home 32bit + ATI Radeon HD 4800 running with the AMD Catalyst driver - without getting noticeable BSODs if any at all.

Be aware that my OS is an international i.e. Danish version.

On 25 February 2015 I upgraded my Windows Vista Home 32bit to Windows 7 Home 32bit (retail upgrade DVD). It?s now Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (Danish).

Microsoft?s upgrade tool had advised to uninstall these 2 applications from my pc before upgrading: iTunes and AMD Catalyst Control Center. I did this using Control Panel/Remove Programs.

I completed the upgrade with a lot of Windows Updates plus re-installing the AMD Catalyst Control Center.

For this I used the AMD Driver Autodetect Utility f... Read more

Hello,
i recently updated my graphic card driver to the newes version. But now I am not able to select the right display resolution(which is 1920x1200). The max resolution I can select is now only 1600x1200. But this Driver should definitely support this resolution.
Even if I select the option to show me all mods it won?t show me more options.

I tried a lot of other Drivers now and even my old Driver(which worked fine) but non of them seems to work.

- Graphic Card: ATI RADEON HD 4800
- Driver: AMD-Catalyst-15.11Beta (also tried 15.7.1 and 13.4)
- Display: HP Z24i
- Windows 10 64bit Pro

A:ATI Radeon HD 4800: display resolution problem

Maybe changing the graphics driver changed the monitor as well. To make sure it supports all resolutions, you have to replace the monitor with Generic PnP monitor. Click on the search icon and type device. Click to open the Device Manager, then expand monitors, right-click on the monitor and select Update driver. Select last option a couple of times and you should see a list with models. Uncheck the box Show compatible models to see all models. Then from standard monitors select Generic PnP monitor and install it.

Another thing to try is to change the resolution from Catalyst Control Center, monitor section. Or right-click on the desktop, select Display settings., then click Advanced display settings, then Display adapter properties. Finally click on List all modes, select the desired resolution and try to apply it.

So, I have a Radeon HD 4800 Series card and a 4770 card and was wondering whether it was possible to crossfire those. I have tried just installing drivers (both cards are showing up in device manager) but the installer does not mention anything about crossfire when installing. Catalyst Control Center does not show any crossfire settings either. (I have checked every category).

I have ran furmark once. It did detect both GPU's but only use one.

A:AMD Radeon HD 4800 Series and 4770 Crossfire possible?

Whitehooder, you would need two cards from the same series

What are the system requirements for AMD CrossFire??

The minimum requirements to run AMD CrossFire are:

2x or more AMD Radeon? HD2000 series or greater graphics cards that are within the same family model number. E.g. 2 x AMD Radeon HD6770
AMD CrossFire compatible graphics cards
AMD CrossFire supporting motherboard
At least one AMD CrossFire interconnect bridge for each additional graphics card

A:ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series vs Nvidia GTS 250 512MB 2XDVI

there are a lot of cards in the HD4800 series... you can't compare the whole lot to just one GTS

but to make things easier I'd go with a 4850 or 4870 1GB

OS: Microsoft - Windows XP Home Edition 32 bit. System is setup as a Workstation.

This system is very responsive and software-wise is in great shape IMHO.

This system also has an issue with the Vcore voltage being consistently low @3.1v. Power supply is only 430 watts but there are only 2 fans, 1 multirec optical drive, and one SATA2 HDD. This system is above all, used as a world of warcraft/call of duty 4/half life gaming station. This system has been unused for about a year. All updates have been done in the past few days, for all software and games ... Read more

A:Solved: Vcore voltage LOW on AMD 4800+ Nvidia 8800GT

My first thought would be to agree with you on the Power Supply. If this was an 'off the shelf' machine originally the PSU may be a little stretched with the new card, it may also be a fairly cheaply made PSU which will effect it.

If you can get hold of a good quality PSU to test it that may be worth a try, at least you could confirm / deny the PSU as source of the problem before paying out for a new one.
