Problem installing 2000 on a Notebook with a USB Cd-ROM

Q: Problem installing 2000 on a Notebook with a USB Cd-ROM

Hello

First:
My BIOS does not support booting from a USB device
The Notebook does NOT have a CD-ROM
I am able to access a USB CD-ROM with a bootdisk
I've created 3 partitions, but only the second partition is working, because the harddisk is corrupt
The partion is 7GB large and has the letter D

The Problems I've encountered:
I tried to start the ..\I386\winnt.exe but the setup doesn't see my Harddrive. Windows is unable to locate a appropriate drive with enough space.
Same as above happens when I run the winnt from the harddisk
The setup doesn't start at all when there is no CD-ROM driver loaded, so I cannot just use simple bootdisks
Well, what can I do?? I'd like to load the USB drivers during the bootsetup(using 4 bootdisk) but I do not know how. Does anyone have a idea how to get this installation going?
Thank you

Bye

i need to know if it is normal for a fan to be turn on all the time on a hp 2000 notebook?

A:hp 2000 notebook fan problem?

Depends on the settings. You can change it to be always on or always off via the bios, or the system settings in windows. But if you set it to always off, the fan will turn on either way if the cpu gets over 70c

I have an old HP Pavillion N3350 which had a cracked screen. I ordered a new LCD from one of the many websites devoted to that and installed it myself, following exactly what I did to remove the old one in reverse. The new screen has some sort of active connection because it lights up with many colorful scrambled lines, but no clear picture and no sign that the scramble is an actual picture being scrambled. I plugged it into another monitor and activated a dual display, the new screen lit up, scrambled, but was not actually listed as a display device that I could select. I plan on taking the whole thing apart again and double checking my connections, but I really don't think that they are loose. Does anyone have any ideas or experience with something like this??
Thanks in advance!

A:Problem installing new LCD into notebook

Well, this is one of those issues where the operative phrase is probably: You just had to be there.

I'm not sure, other than checking the connections again, what to suggest. It's curious another monitor shows up scrambled, that seems to indicate you have a video controller error in addition to the cracked screen. Did this laptop get dropped?

It's normally not cost-effective to repair older laptops, I've recently seen low-end Toshiba models for $449 after rebate, and I'm sure they're a better laptop than the old HP.

I have an Acer Aspire 5670 Notebook that I recently tried reinstalling the operating system on. I backed everything up and started to format the computer and install Windows XP Media Center edition. Everything was working fine, but when I was installing drivers, the computer started acting erratically and then I received a Fatal Error and blue screen of death out of nowhere.

So I tried formatting and installing windows again, but each time it finishes installing windows, it just shuts off, no message or anything. Each time I go to try to turn it on, it just shuts off at the Windows splash screen. Usually nothing shows up, it just restarts, but occasionally I get the blue screen of death.

I also tried installing Ubuntu, but I cant even get it to install, I just get to the starting splash screen and it restarts.

Ive tried installing windows xp pro which was on the laptop earlier, but that also came out with the same result.

Is the laptop messed up for good? Is it a BIOS problem? Do I need to replace a part? I just have no idea what to do with it.

My local tech had to remove everything on my hard drive and build it again due to a bug or 2. Then we installed XP ( I had ME). Then I tried to re-install MS Office 2000 Standard but I get this message : "Setup failed to locate a valid qualifying product on you machine".
I have re-installed this software several times with ME and never got this message before. Now I do.
I checked on Google and found some items that did not address this particular problem (upgrading to XP) but did say that one must install a qualifying product if they get this messge. I have no clue wht they are talking about. I am very confused.
I hope you can help. I am not very good with computer jargon but I can follow directions!!

A:Problem re-installing MS Office 2000 SR-1

Your version of Word 2000 is an "upgrade", and not a full install.

It will only install if there is a "qualifying product" already loaded. This means an earlier version of Word, or another package that Word 2000 will recognise as meeting the requirements of the licence.

Reinstalling it on ME probably worked because there was some "qualifying product" already installed.

It may recognise MS Works, or Wordperfect etc?
You often don't need to actually install the "qualifying product" but point it to the installation CD.

Hi, looking for a bit of help.I'm trying to install Microsoft Office 2000 onto a new harddrive. I get this error message... This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer packageI had office running before but recently had a new hard drive added to the pc (the old hard drive is still present). I found a few bits on google saying the windows installer may be clashing with the original installation of office? So I ran Windows Install Clean-up on the old hard drive and removed the office applications, but that didn't help. I also tried updating the windows installer but it was upto date.I'm running windows XP home, SP3.If anybody has any ideas I'd be very grateful. Thanks, Sam.

It hasn't been easy but I have managed to get the .Net Framework and SQL Server 7 set up on a test domain controller. Both are working correctly independently but when I try and view a page that shows db schema I get this error:

The .Net Data SQL Provider (System.Data.SqlClient) requires Microsoft Data Access Components(MDAC) version 2.6 or later.

I have tried loading MDAC 6 and 7 but both get near the end of the installation and then stop. The setup wizard says the install is being rolled back and to contact the software vendor. I have found two KB articles and went through all the suggestions and still couldn’t get it to work.

HOWTO: MDAC Setup Troubleshooting Guide (Q232060)
INFO: Component Checker: Diagnose Problems and Reconfigure MDAC Installations (Q307255)

The second KB article basically says that MDAC can not be replaced/repaired without reinstalling the operating system. Has anybody else seen this and know away around it?

By the way it is Windows 2000 with SP2 and SQL 7 with SP3 installed. Also I know the page works because it was built and tested on another workstation.

A:Problem installing MDAC on Windows 2000

I have had one where I did have to reinstall 2000 to get it to work.
Before you go that far, have you tried installing it from safe mode? Since the MDAC install will fail if any of its dll's are in use, booting to safe mode might disable them and allow you to install it.

Also, if still having problems, try doing the procedure in Q232060 to create a log file of the install. They list one condition that there is a workaround for in that Q article.

I have been trying to install the microsoft vm on a windows 2000 machine. When i try to run the installation exe msjavax86.exe, it gives an error saying - it cannot update the virtual machine because it is a protected system component.

However, when i run jview from the command prompt it says 'unrecognized command name' which means there is no installed version of the virtual machine.

This is a windows 2000 sp4 machine with IE 6 sp 1.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi, Try to run a diagnostic test Turn your computer offthen turn it back on and keep on tapping on ESCLook for Diagnostics F2Look for component test, Hard drive test, then click quick check then run once. It will then check your computer's hard drive. After the test it should give you a result if the hard drive pass or fail with a failure id number If the computer pass. Try running malwarebytes to your computer (I know that the antivirus of your computer is updated but we wanted to check if there are virus infection present) Try downloading bios update. Please refer here on how to install the bios update http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/randomly-shuts-down/m-p/5603375... Note: Please disable your computer's log in password just to make sure you won't encounter any locked up issues after bios update by going to  RUN then type netplwiz then uncheck the box click apply then enter your password and re enter it (Just dont mind the user)

I have made back up discs when i bought this pc, But with the Windows 10 , I am not given the choice to do a Restore. My PC keeps flashing on alot of the pages, Im running Norton security and Malware Bytes, and nothing has been found. I need to find a way to restore this back to the way it was when i bought it.  bought in 2013 , and it had windows 8 , 64 bit.  Thank you  Dee33

A:HP 2000 Notebook PC

Dee33 If you did the Win10 Upgrade and are now trying to revert back to Wion8, I have some bad news for you. While Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the Win10 Upgrade, because they let you believe that you can always revert back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly fact of the matter is that the Win10 GoBack function has proven to be unreliable -- and when it fails, it can leave machines in a corrupted state -- which doesn't always happen, but it does happen often enough to be a problem and you won't get any warning in advance that it is going to trash your PC!The Win10 Upgrade is know, in some cases, to corrupt the Recovery partition stored there by the OEM that built the original machine.  This pretty much guarantees that no HP Recovery is going to work. So, any attempt to use F11 to do a restore is doomed to failure. Are you trying to use the Recovery Disks, by booting from the first one, and they are not working? If so, what is happening when you try to use them? We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue. The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer or inside the battery compartment. Please do not include your serial number.  It will be necessary to set the SATA settings in BIOS to IDE mode. If your computer doesn't support this option, you will need to "slipstream" SATA / AHCI drivers into the Windows XP disc using a utility such as nLite OS. Please click the white KUDOS star to show your appreciation

Merry Christmas

I hope someone can help. I have a copy of win2000 upgrade that I used to upgrade a brand new HP notebook PC from Windows ME to Win2000 (upgrade). Everything looks good except 2 things:

When it checked for win2000 compatibility with loaded software (I was just from the factory), it identified that 2000 was not compatible with any of the Windows Works programs that were pre-loaded. (that was fine as I have office xp I'm going to use). When I boot up the computer, I get an error message box saying:
WKSCal.exe -unable to locate DLL
The dynamic link library MSVCP60.DLL could not be found in specified path (.....yada-yada)
Question 1- how can I get that error message to go away for good since I don't need to ever use that file.

Question 2- win2000 shrank the screen display of the windows desktop, it doesn't fill the whole screen. It is shrunk on all 4 sides aproximately 20%. I have adjusted the screen resolution in the control panel/display/settings to the more setting and it does not help. The other parts of the screen are black and acts like the monitor is small.

I appreciate anyone's help on this. Thanks.

A:Getting a new hp notebook. 1500-2000 budget. Need some help :)

Hey Zizou I am actually in the exact same boat as you right now. I'm looking for a sub 2k notebook. Here are a few things you might find useful that I did:

The Centrino's have just gone through a yearly hardware refresh called Santa Rosa. Since these are brand new Centrino's not all the notebooks that will use them are avaliable yet. By around the end of June though, they should all be pretty much on the market. I'd really suggest waiting until at least then before you upgrade.

Now the mods here may kill me for this, but I found notebookreview.com and specifically their What notebook should I buy? section to be very helpful.

Personally I'm leaning towards getting a Compal IFL90 barebones and customizing it with powernotebooks.com. Here's the deal i was able to get on their site:
PowerPro J 10:15 FORCE

My laptop probably suffered some damage within the couple years that I have had it but never had any running problems with my baby. I recently went to turn my computer on and the screen stayed black. The fan is still running and LED lights are still lit so I do not know what the problem is. I think it could be the monitor but I do not have an external monitor to test it on. I know that I am running on the Windows 10 OS but I  am not sure if it is 32-bit or 64-bit

A:HP 2000 Notebook (Energy STAR)

Try a hard reset.  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768 Without an external monitor it is going to be hard to test if it is the screen panel. Do you see the hard drive light blinking like there is activity? Do you hear sounds? Can you get into the BIOS (F10) or diagnostics (F2) as you power up?

I am downgrading this notebook for a friend and I am unable to get any of the drivers for the network to install properly. I nave zero connectivity either through the wireless connection or ethernet connection. I have seen several posts regarding this issue, however, the links to the drivers only take me to the main HP support page.  I have tried downloading the drivers suggested by HP however, when installed on the PC I get the error message stating "The program might not have been installed properaly". I have tried several of the ralink drivers (secifially the 802.11b/g/n WLAN driver) with no success.   Any help would be much appreciated!!

Last week I purchased an HP 2000 notebook with windows 8 installed I now wish to return and upgrade for a model with a faster processor. I only have a very few personal items on it such as my email address, windows password administrator details and log in passwords on a couple of apps. Therefore I am considering doing a factory reset to remove my personal information and any passwords I have installed. There is no windows key on the notebook itself. In the windows information there is a product ID number which I do not think is the windows key and another which seems to be it but consists of some asterisks and just the last five letters of a key therefore, I am uncertain about what I need to do.I am not very good with computers but as far as I can ascertain I need to do a factory reset via the HP repair software and not any other way.Any advice as to how I should proceed and what precautions I should take would be most welcome (I have watched the specific HP video on this proceedure, maybe I'm just stupid but I found it only added to my confusion).Don

Currently my notebook has the standard 4GB of memory using the HP provided Hynix HMT451S6AFR8A SoDIMM, 12800 DDR3L-1600, 1.35V. I have been looking to replace it with either Kingston HyperX, HX316LS9IB2_8, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit or the Crucial Ballistix Sport CT6278900, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit. Both have 9-9-9 timings. My question is will the memory with lower timings and the density of the chips work on my HP 2000-2d37cl notebook with an AMD A6-5200 CPU? Also I was curious about postings in the forums where persons had lost the Admin or other passwords on theirHP 2000 notebooks or they purchased a used notebook that had a unknown password. They provide the codes from the error on screen and the reply's from techs allowed them to get past this and reset their systems. I hope I never have that problem, however where exactly are the techs getting the codes from? Is there some program or document available that has the code alogrithm? Thank You.

I have a dv6t with the i7  720m processory from about 3 yrs ago build. I think it has clarksfield processor. I have a 2 x 2 gig installed for total of 4gig now from the original build.   I am wondering (assuming Win  7 64 bit home premium which supports up to 16gig), will this laptop only support 8gig?  I ran a tool and it has a reference of Logical/Chipset memory banks  maximum memory installable of 32gig and a reference to Computer memory controller Max installable memory of 8gig.  So what gives? Will the laptop support 2x8gig memory sticks or just 2x4gig memory sticks?  The DV6T 2000 CTO Entertainment laptop.  If it supports 16 gig, I would like to just buy one of the 8gig rather than 2x4gig sticks. And maybe try to use one of the 2 gigs with the 8gig giving me 10gig for now...or just wait to see if I need a 2nd 8gig.  And will a bios upgrade support the 16 gig?

A:DV6T 2000 CTO Entertainment Notebook with i7 72QM processor...

I figured I would update my own question with the truth and working answer which hopefully helps anyone else that stubmles into this.  But in a nutshell the DV6t 2000 CTO models one could order about 2009 DO DO DO support 16gig and NOT just 8 gig. I have 2 slots. I have the 720QM quad first edition, yes first edition. Both Intel site and Memory checker sites are WRONG!  The saying was 1st gen cpu quads do not support more than 2x4gig=8gigs.  In fact one of my tools suggests I can put in up to 32gig assuming I can find 2 x 16gig memory sticks that I don't even think exist yet for general sale let alone affordability. Spread the word as hopefully this will help others. I bought memory at egghead and figured I would chance it since I read several reviews and comments in various locations suggesting they tried 16gig and indeed it worked for the 720QM processor.  I did not have to update my BIOS that HP last suggested I install circa 2010ish as opposed to the 4 or so that are available today for my model but I think were updated to support other things my model did not require. I ran memory tests too in 5 iterations without issue and in fact it booted right away with no problems with WIN 7 home premium recognizing the sticks. I also checked the CPU64z tool  tab for memory.

A:my hp notebook 2000 is not starting but caps lock is blinkin...

The heat damaged the motherboard. You can try keeping it in the sun. Kind of a substitute for baking the main chipset which sometimes works temporarily to melt the solder connections and get everything flowing again but never lasts very long.  The data recovery did not cause this, by the way, just a coincidence.

Hey guys, I've been noticing a strange issue with my 2011 HP 2000 Notebook laptop for quite some time and figured
I should look into asking for some assistance. For a long while now, my laptop, at very random and less-than occasional times, will make a squealing sound or a long beep, and then something inside clicks rather loud. I've noticed lately that I have received a "BAD_POOL_HEADER" Blue Screen error a few times, twice when I would wake the computer from Sleep Mode, and once while a Windows 7 update was in progress. Luckily, after my computer restarted from the one Blue Screen, the update continued like normal. I've also noticed once in a while if I shut the computer down, right before the laptop completely powers off, it may make a quick beep and click before powering off. I'm a little scared, as I don't know what could be the issue. I feel as though it's the HDD, but I don't know, hence why I'm asking for help here. Can someone help me out? Thanks!

Hello maggie75. I understand that you're having some problems with your microphone. You should try recording audio in another application so that you can determine whether this is an issue with the application or the microphone. Try the following.Click Start, type "sound recorder," and press Enter. This opens the Sound Recorder application.Attempt to record sound.Verify whether or not you hear sound.Post the result.Also. you may need to update some software. If this is the case it will be helpful to have your product number. This document can show you where it is located for me.I will await the result of this. I hope you have a great day!

Please post a screen shot of Disk Management in your computer.

Also, just noticed that you list Malwarebytes as your antivirus program. Malwarebytes is not an antivirus program. You should reallyinstall one.

Alrighty! Here goes!

I've been searching online for five hours looking for fixes for this. I recently replaced the Windows 8 on this Notebook with Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Edition because, simply put, I bloody hate Windows 8.

This has become problematic for me because it appears that there are no compatible drivers that pair Windows 7 and this device's hardware.

I posted in Yahoo Answers about an hour and ten minutes ago and I'm incredibly frustrated with the results (go figure). A link to that question, in case I forget any information I mentioned there: Downgrading to Windows 7 with HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook? - Yahoo! Answers

The product information page for the HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook is located here: HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC Product Specifications HP 2000-2b89WM Notebook PC | HP? Support

I have several drivers that are "Out of date." The main one that I'm worried about is the Graphics/Display driver. On the HP website, the device is listed as: Intel HD graphics 3000 with up to 1696MB total graphics memory.

I've tried installing the Windows 8 drivers (which do nothing) and I have also tried updating my drivers through Windows Update. I've also visited HP's driver site, Intel's, and even NVidia, I believe, all to no avail.

I'm hoping that an informed someone can tell me whether or not there are drivers for my graphics chip, and if there are, where I can find them and how I can install them in working order.

A:My HP 2000-369wm notebook won't boot past the HP logo screen...

Not a lot of info here1) Can you access the BIOS /CMOS screen2) IF yes can you move around the screens and or see that the system has recognised the hard drive. Does the system make any strange noises? How long does it take to switch on ?Is it getting over hot? What happen eventually?Do you can you power it off easily or do you have to hang on to the power button to get it to go offWith it powered OFF!Have you tried removing the hard drive?Reseatting the Memory?Removed the Optical drive? If no then try this below.  Try using a boot DVD/CD to establish if the system will 'get out of bed' Or a linux boot flash stick you can then see if the system is viable and or if the system can access the Hard drive(s) It will also allow you to recover the data transfer to a flash stick.

(HP 2000 Notebook PC / Windows 8.1, 64 Bit) Blank screen always, external monitor works fine. What components could be malfunctioning? This occured about six  months ago, approximately one week after the one year warranty expired. Nonfortuitous.

A:(HP 2000 Notebook PC ) Blank screen, external monitor works...

Hi, As you are confirming that issue is intermittent, and now its working fine, it means that issue would be of display cable. The display cable would be loose. Issue can be fixed by refixing the display cable, if the issue persists then the display cable needs to be replaced. This is the only reason, I asked you in the previous post whether issue was intermittent or display view changed while moving the display lid. This particualr issue has nothing to do with the temperature. Regards,Sumit I am an HP Employee

So i got this hp 2000 notebook pre installed win 8 from a friend. I did some HP tests and shows HD short DST Failure.
I was able to refresh the pc and it does run per sa but constant always getting dst failures. So i assume its dying. I bought a new hard drive for the unit. Now if i put it in, will windows setup pull the product key from the bios? I put windows 8 on a usb key. Can anyone guide me through the process?

A:hp 2000 notebook Hard Drive DST short failure, Reinstall?

Hi, if the PC came originally with Windows 8 preinstalled the product key is embedded in the BIOS so it would be detected automatically. Here is a great tutorial how to install Windows 8 Clean Install - Windows 8.

Good luck, werty

Just reinstalled this computer with the Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system. After the installing there was no networks available to connect to. I even connected it through an Ethernet cable and nothing happened. I clicked on the troubleshoot link and windows network diagnostics and it says to Install a driver for your network adapter. Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver. I tried to reinstall the operating system and nothing change. Not sure what to do. Can anyone help?

i have an asus eee pc 904hd with windows xp installed (1gb memory, 80gb hard-drive, and a 900 MHZ processor) and i was wondering if it is possible to install windows vista ultimate onto it, with out there being any problems. many thanks alex

A:installing vista on a notebook

Don't bother with a 900mhz processor. Vista needs officially 1GHz. Most standard laptops have 1.6GHz or higher. 1GB of RAM is also too small, ideally you would need 3GB for x86 and 6GB or more for x64. Also, Vista needs around 15GB to install, so you would be running out of space soon.

I bought a brand new notebook pc. unfortunatly it has vista but i want to install XP on it, so when i load the CD, it later tells me that it does not see a HD installed, im sure my HD is SATA. i dont think it has anything to do with it but i guess that is why i am on here lol...

i also tried ubuntu linux but it gets to the part where the theme song comes on and then it freezes. so i left it alone.

but i really want to install XP because i cannot stand Vista. any help? i really appreciate it.

A:Solved: Need help installing XP on notebook.

If you are using a SATA (Serial ATA) hard drive, you will get an error message and will need to start the install process over. Keep an eye out for the message at the bottom of the screen that prompts you to “press F6 to install a third-party driver” You will have to slipstream a disk unless you have a floppy. The first thing you need to do is make sure you will be able to get the drivers and utilities for your board that are XP compatible.

I've recently bought a new Acer Notebook travelmate 6292 with Vista preinstalled.
I would like to remove Vista and install XP pro.
After changing the boot sequence to CDdrive first and inserting the XP disk it goes
through the install process then comes up with hard drive not installed.
Normally at that stage it would give me the option of HD to install.
My intention is to format the HD and install Xp. What am I doing wrong. Help!

Hi,
I bought my laptop abroad and everything is in foreign language. It's an ACER ASPIRE 5739G - 754G50Mn with Vista Home Premium. I wanted to get a new os vista ultimate or windows 7 installed. Some questions:
1. If I get a new os in english, I would only be able to clean install as it wouldn't allow me to update. But would I loose all the notebook's drivers?
2. I did a back up of the drivers just to be on the safe side, but if I install the new os in english, would the new os recognise the drivers if they are in a foreign language?
3. What's the best solution in this case? Getting an update of either vista or 7 and upgrading and then changing the display language?

Many thanks for your replies.

A:Installing on a foreign notebook

Hello Nag and welcome to the SevenForums.

In my opinion you have two possibilities. One is the upgrade installation and Language Pack, the second a clean install. Checking the specs of your laptop from interweb, I believe both would work without problems.

1) Upgrade & Language PackBuy Windows 7 Ultimate in the same language than your OEM Vista Home Premium. Do an upgrade installation, install English Language Pack from Windows Update and change the language. You get an English Wnidows 7 with all of the original drivers intact. The Win7 has to be in the same language than your OEM-OS. Works!
2) Clean InstallDo a clean install of Windows 7, download and install missing drivers. Your Acer should work fine. You can use English Win7 or some other language version and Language Packs.

I?m planning on loading Windows 7 on my new Business Notebook are there any settings I need to change? What do I need to know?

Thanks
Bill

A:Installing Windows 7 on a New Notebook

Hey Bill, Windows 7 can be installed on some of the newer business PCs. There are some requirements and settings you should be aware of.First, you cannot install Windows 7 on a computer with a 7th generation processor. You'll need to either change the TPM version on the PC or install a hotfix from Microsoft. You must use legacy mode (non-UEFI) in the BIOS.You need your own copy of Windows 7 and a license for Windows 10 Professional. You can find steps and more information at http://www.hp.com/support/Windows7and10TPMFAQ Thanks,Wes

My niece is looking for a laptop for her son possibly for a holiday gift. Office Depot has this machine for $299.00 after $50.00 rebate, and being considered the nerd of the family they always ask me, but I am not familiar with this processor. He just started high school and would be doing some homework, browsing the net, and if any, light gaming on the laptop. He does his gaming on his Xbox 360 at this time. So unlike me who is big into MS Flight Simulator and pc programs like this, he does not do any kind of things like this on their existing old home computer. What about heat issues? And I am sure the ram could be upgraded but almost sure there is no need for his purposes.

Here are the specs:

"HP - Notebook - 15.6 inch - 3 GB RAM - Windows 7 - 320 GB disk - Intel CPU - 2.13 GHz CPU - With DVD Drive - 1366 x 768 - Widescreen - 5.5 pound - 4 hour battery
The Pavilion 2000-210US 15.6 Notebook Computer from Hewlett-Packard is a 15.6 notebook computer that weighs about five and a half pounds. The computer's 16:9 widescreen display features LED backlight technology for superior image quality and enhanced energy efficiency. The system is powered by a dual-core 2.13GHz Intel Pentium P6200 CPU and boasts 3GB of RAM a 320GB 5400rpm hard drive a SuperMulti DVD burner Bluetooth 2.0+EDR 802.11n Wi-Fi and integrated Intel GMA HD graphics. Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit) is the installed operating system."

A:HP 2000-210US 15.6" Intel Pentium P6200 Charcoal Gray Notebook

The CPU isn't the best but for someone thats just going to be browsing and homework, its a great buy. The ram is also more than enough for what you anticipate him doing.

If I need to install a new sound card for my notebook do I have to buy an internal or external one? I'm assuming external (usb) because I don't see an easy way of opening my laptop to install an internal one.

A:installing new sound card in notebook

most are onboard and aren't something you can changeout like a pc.

ms had some usb speakers sometime back. you'd have to check around bestbuy, office max to see if any are available.

have you ever had anything running thru the usb port?

info about you laptop would help.

I have an Acer Aspire 1410 Notebook which came with Vista Home Premium.
I just ran the Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade (custom Installation).
I was able to run the install, check for and download updates and activate 7. The last thing I did was to change the "update windows" option to notify me when downloads are available but let me choose when to download and install.
After doing all of this I restarted the system and windows wouldn't start, I followed the recomendation to run Startup repair which when finished reported that the volume was corrupt, not sure of the exact wording. I tried to restart, and was prompted to run the Startup repair again which I did. The window opened and showed that it was checking for problems, the next time I looked at the screen it was blank (not blue screen) with ony the mouse pointer visible. I could move the pointer but there was no other activity.
I tried to turn off and restart the computer using the power button but could not get anything happening.
Any ideas on how I can get this machine up and running again?

If you can't turn it off, pull the battery and the power cord.

I have a windows 7 Samsung recovery media disk and a Samsung notebook model-NP-N110 with windows xp home edition. Obviously my notebook does not have a disk drive and I want to install windows 7 on it using the disk. I am ok with computers but not very technical so if you could explain things and describe what I have to do it would be good

A:Need help installing windows 7 on a Samsung notebook

The simplest, most direct way would be to use an external USB DVD drive. You will need to access the Boot Options in the BIOS to set the computer's boot order to USB as the first choice. Once you do that you can boot from the recovery disk and proceed with the restore.

Have you tried to do a restore from the hdd using what Samsung refers to as "Recovery Solution 4"? From the Samsung website here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/Su...224&fm_seq=392 (scroll down to the sections describing how to do a restore) It seems that you should press F4 when you first see the Samsung logo to access "Recovery Solution 4".

i have an older ibm thinkpad 600E type 2645-4AH that runs on a PII with a 6.4GB Hitachi hard drive. i would like to install a larger hard drive 20GB or 30GB. i took a look at the hard drive in the notebook and it seems to be a size around 12.7mm (0.5 in.) most of the new notebook hard drives i can find are in the 9.5mm (0.37 in.) size. will there be any problems installing a thinner drive than my old drive in the notebook? will it be secure in place or will it move around too much and get easily damaged? would i also need to upgrade the bios?

tks for the help in advance.

A:installing a new notebook hard drive

The thinner one will be OK. It is screwed into a cradle and that stops it from movong. No you should not need a bios update.

Hi,

i'm trying to install a new hard drive in my notebook (dell, running windows 2000),
i know i need a startup disk, right?
but when i try to make a startup disk the system asks me for the cdrom of windows 2000, which i don't have.

the question is can i use any startup disk or one generated by the current os?

i have the cdrom of windows me and a startup disk of windows me, can i use those to install the new hard drive on my notebook?

plus, anything else i should know? any tutorial around?

thank you!

A:installing hard drive in a notebook

Are you wanting to install ME on the new disk? If so, then pop out the old HDD, and put in the new, and use the ME Startup disk to make sure the new drive is fdisked and formatted properly. After that, you can reboot and start installing the OS.

You can learn a lot from one of our member's sites.

rkselby98 and scroll down a little to the Hard drive and Installing Windows sections respectively
