Outlook display problem after installing Microsoft Updates

Q: Outlook display problem after installing Microsoft Updates

About a week ago I had the microsoft popup tell me that I had updates to install. I don't know at the time if it installed the XP service pack 2 update or not, but that may be one of them. The other updates that were installed were XP Hotfix KB885835, XP Hotfix KB885836, XP Hotfix KB873339, XP Hotfix KB885884, XP Hotfix KB886185, and XP Hotfix KB834707. Ever since installing these updates, when I open outlook 2002, the whole display on the PC changes and outlook is HUGE! So big that I can hardly use it since I have to scroll so much to do things. if I close out of outlook, the screen flashes and goes back to normal. Any ideas? This did not start until I ran the microsoft updates. Can I uninstall the updates? Any help is appreciated! Thanks! dhiggins

When you send an e-mail or receive one from outlook, by default it looks for the person in your contacts and puts the display name up instead.

But when reading the e-mail it displays

John Doe [mailto:[email protected]]
To: Jane Doe

How do you get rid of the mailto:etc, etc ??? I would prefer a hyperlink instead of the mailto because then it reveals the person's e-mail address.

I know you could just hover over it or click on the hyperlink to find out the e-mail, but I'm just asking for the purpose of printing. I don't want my e-mail address shown in a long stream of E-mail send's and replies between a friend when I print it.

If there is a setting in Outlook to turn this off, please let me know, I fooled around with everything and I cant get it to work.

A:PROBLEM: Microsoft Outlook 2000/2002/2003 E-Mail Display

Under "tools/options/prefrences/e-mail options/advanced e-mail options " You can select "automatic name checking" which I think will convert the mailto to a name if it is in the global address or contacts list. I don't know what that does to people you send to I would think it depends on their setting...

I wondered if someone could help me. The security update- xml core services 4.0 service pack 2 will not install. Once I start the download it goes throught the whole update procedure and then the system says that the download is complete and the update page indicates the download was succesfull, however the little yellow update shield reappears everytime afterwards. It dosent matter if I restart or try to download again, it just dosent seem to take. Any ideas how I can get it to download?? Any help would be appreciated!!

A:Microsoft Updates Not Installing

I have the same problem and have tried every possible way for it to disappear. The question to me is whether the xml core services pack has been installed which might be why the icon remains in the systray.

When checking the xml log it appears to me that the installation is complete, howwever, I really can't determine that from the readout. When I go to the Windows Update service site and check what updates are missing, the xml core services pack is identified as having been downloaded but not installed.

Anyone out there with some ideas for the two of us?

I was in the middle of installing some Microsoft Updates when I got the BSoD shown in the attachment.
I don't remember exactly what all of the updates were for, but I do know that there were some driver updates for a couple plotters. I'm pretty sure that one of those is what is giving me problems.
When I try to "Start Windows Normally" I get the BSoD and end up back at the "How do you want to start Windows" black screen. If I try to "Start in Safe Mode" I get to the Windows login screen. However, my attempts to login with the correct username/password have failed.
Here is what I am thinking is my problem. Yesterday, the IT guy we hired to switch us over to a new Server machine finished up. Our usernames remained the same, the password went from xxxxxx to Xxxxxx1, and our Network Domain(?) name changed.
I do not believe a restore point was set up for the new Server setup.
A couple of questions: At the Safe Mode login screen, is it still trying to "login" to the old network? If so, my new password is wrong and if my old password is the correct one, the Server doesn't exist to login to.
I was able to boot from the XP cd, but when I tried to repair XP I got the BSoD again.
Any suggestions as to what my options are at this point? I know I probably need to disable some drivers to fix the BSoD, but don't know how to get into Windows.
Thanks for any input you might have.

Okay for some retarted reason the windows update window wont install .net framework 4 or the security updates for it.

I manage to do a stand alone install for .net framework 4 but it wont let me get the updates for the security through the windows update and keeps coming up with this error:

.Netframework security patch error:
ngen.exe entry point not found. the procedure entry point CLRCreateInstance could not be locate in the dynamic link library mscoree.dll but all other updates
are fine..

I also have this same problem with microsoft fixit tool..

anyone got any solutions how to fix this nagging problem.

It also seems to be a requirement to have all previous .NET Framework versions installed as they work side by side (some parts of .NET 4 may need parts of .NET 1, 2, 3, 3.5 to work correctly.)

I am running Windows 7 64-bit on an Alienware M14x.

Okay, let me list out all the problems.

It will not install updates correctly, meaning it will reboot two times before it says, "failure to update, reverting changes" and allow me to log into my computer. Sometimes it will take 15 minutes per "Configuring Windows, please wait" screen.

It is also not allowing me to download Microsoft Office 2010. I keep getting this error code:
Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {A75F2217-AD54-3EA6-AE14-F255F8660531}. HRESULT: 0x8007054F.

And none of the updates are sticking.

Every time I close out of Windows Update after installing a Security update, it says there are updates available, and it's another Security update. wtf? Also, I get the error code "Code BC9, Windows Update encountered an unknown error" when it tries to install Internet Explorer, so that doesn't install either.

I did a diagnostic test, and nothing came up as an actual system error, so it's just all Windows itself.

Here is the HijackThis log.

Edit: I ran a full scan on Microsoft Security Essentials and it found a trojan and two other issues. I promptly removed them. However it still didn't repair my update issues (which might be due to a connectivity problem) or my Microsoft Office 2010 problem.

Good morning,
After updates were automatically installed, my computer restarted, and my usual Outlook icon was replaced by a different icon. When I tried to open it, it prompted me to insert the MS Office 2000 Small Business disc and opened email set up wizard. So basically it's as if Outlook is starting over, which means all my emails and contacts are gone.

I would like to know why Outlook was uninstalled, and if it's possible to retrieve my emails and contacts. I'll deal with re-configuring my new Outlook later since that's a whole different set of questions.

Thanks very much for your help! By the way I have Windows XP.

A:After installing updates, Outlook is uninstalled

Just insert the disk as it may just need to reinstall something because Outlook got whacked by some update. Was this an Ms Office Update or what? It is unlikely the storage is lost, there is just most likely nothing pointing to it to open it yet.

How do you install them? I don't use netmeeting at all and I use hotmail for my email. Do I really need windows update like MSXML, Microsoft Internationalized, and National Language?

A:Programs like Netmeeting, Outlook Express, Microsoft Updates

NetMeeting and Outlook Express are part of Windows.
To run Outlook Express, just find the entry in your start menu.
If that doesn't work, go to C:\Program Files\Outlook Express and run msimn.exe
To run netmeeting, go to C:\Program Files\NetMeeting and run conf.exe
Unless a program requires it, you probably won't have all the various versions of MSXML installed on your PC. You can download them from the Microsoft site though.
For Microsoft Updates, just go to if you want to do it via your web browser manually. Or you can set automatic updates to run automatically in control panel otherwise.

I don't know what Microsoft Internationalized and National Language are.

Hello All,

I was referred here by NeonFx from the TechGuy Security forum. He had me run a slew of anti-virus/anti-spyware diagnostics. According to NeonFx my system is currently infection free and he states the problem lies elsewhere.

He also had me run the Windows Update FixIt tool in both Default and Aggressive mode - both of which did not fix the problem. So what is the problem??

When I run the install Windows updates, the updates do not install, and I receive the following message (not verbatim, but close):

"Some updates were unable to be installed..."

This problem "came out of no where" and there has been no suspicious activity prior to it starting other than an IE7 redirect rootkit that NeonFx helped me remove (if I recall correctly an infection of agp440)...

Stumped, stumped and stumped...

Test this by going to Windows Update first. In IE go to Tools/Windows Update. If you get the same message, then install those files. If not, then this is a phishing scam.

It does sound like it's stuck.

Turn the machine off at the socket for a couple of minutes, and then try powering up again - with any luck it will either revert back, or continue the installs.

I have been experiencing some problems installing and or trying to update programs on my PC. I had the problem a long time ago and finally I downloaded them on another computer put them on a flashdrive and then installed them on the other computer. I recently as well have tried updating some other software and usually it will download the whole file and then gives an error message at the end that says, it could not successfully update. Also when trying to install the program Super © it keeps giving me an error message. I just recently tried to update Picassa 2 and it gave an error message, but then when I went to open PIcassa again it was updated. And then with Windows Media it asked me to update, but then downloaded the whole 26 MB but then didn't update and gave an error message. I still can get onto the internet an even download files, but I just have problems with programs.

You will need to give it about 15 to 20 minutes. If it doesn't do anything, cancel the updates and open an administrative command prompt. In command prompt, type in sfc /scannow.

Hi all.

For the past couple of months i've had the same four updates cropping up in windows update and they never seem to install.

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430)
Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2393802)
Security Update for Windows 7 (KB977165)
Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB973688)

These are the only four updates ive had coming up for a few months now (at least it seems its been that long), if they do try to install it just takes forever and sometimes i go to shutdown and it says its finishing off the update process but sometimes that also takes a veeery long time. Either way when i start up my computer its not long before it notifies me to install these updates again.

Many thanks to anyone who could shed some light on this problem.

A:problem installing a few updates

I have the same problem for Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB973688). Tried to install it manually, but the file is not located in the System 32 as indicated. It's located in another Windows location. The manual download will install, but the update still shows "failed."

Frankly, I spent a day trying to find a solution; and now I just don't care anymore. Apparently you and I are not the only ones and I am assuming someday, someone will figure it out.

I'm hoping someone can help me sort this out.

For a while now i hadn't been able to install the windows updates that run before my computer shuts down. It would get to '1 of 8' then come up with 'Instruction at 0x745f2780 referenced memory at 0x00000000'. Memory could not be read' (or similar - that once was the one i wrote down from last night). I'd choose to debug it, and sometimes it would install the rest, sometimes it would freeze and i'd have to turn it off manually. However, the last week, it's been installing them all fine...until last night, when it happened again. Why does it do this?

Also, i cannot install the microsoft updates (security etc). They download, but won't install. I get the error code '0x51F'. I don't know whether this is related, but i am now getting a window's installer box come up when i start my computer, and all throughout the day, failing whatever it is, then saying 'Installation file SKU011.CAB could not be found', then telling me to insert the CD i installed Microsoft Office 2003 edition from, or browse for the file. It was already installed on my computer when i bought it, so i don't have the CD or file anyhow? All my office programs are working fine, so i don't know what's wrong, but it's sh!tting me off!

And....yesterday and today, my computer booted up fine, got to login (where i logged in), loaded the desktop, then rebooted itself automaticall... Read more

I have tried clicking on check for updates and it will tell me I need to download those same updates again. I have restarted my computer and after restarting it will tell me I need to install these updates. I have even gone to the microsoft website searched for each update it says I need and installed them using the Windows Update Standalone Installer and its still saying I need these updates. have windows XP Pro with service pack 2 installed on my pc. I have recently tried installing new antivirus software without any success. When I went to get the lastest windows system updates (some 38 of them!), there was only 2 that installed and all the others failed. I downloaded service pack 3 as it had all the updates but it also failed to unpack and install.

I believe there is obviously something wrong with the operating system and the updates which has not allowed me to install anything. I have looked at the XP installation CD and help files. There are a couple of options open to me including a reinstall of the operating system. I cautious on doing this as I dont want to loose any of the existing programs and files on my computer.

Wondering if anyone else has come across this problem and what the best solution would be.

A:Problem installing windows updates

Try this:
1) Make sure you have admin privileges.
2)Insert O/S disc.
3)Cancel or press no, if you have the autorun setting on.
4)Hit start->Run->type "sfc /scannow"

It will scan your OS if any of your system files has changed anyway and since you have the windows CD in the CD drive it will copy the oem files from the cd to fix the problem.

It will take sometimes, so do it when you have time to kill, if it prompts you, just keep clicking retry.

Now try to download and reinstall the updates now.

Hello there, I've been having a problem with two updates, for a long time. I've been ignoring them for a long time (bad idea, I know), but it's gotten to the point where it's preventing me from installing some programs.

Here is a pic of my recent update history.

As you can see, the two problem updates are:

Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2538243)

Hi all
After performing last months updates as usual i was asked the restart the laptop which i did,it powered down as normal but then seemed to hang with a black screen, also the DVD drive did not spin like it normally does on a start up,i left everything for a while but it was obvious it was not going to restart so i did a hard restart.I have read up on the problems reported from last months updates but so far have not seen anything written about restart problems.

Now at random times i get the same problem but it is random,i get no error messages and the hard restart works fine.Last night after completing this months updates it stuck again and i had to do a hard restart.

I had the same problem on my desktop with restarts. In my case it was caused by an external hard drive (My passport). After uninstalling it, and re-installing it the problem has not reappeared. But that just might be an unrelated coincidence.

Microsoft Updates roll back my personal settings. Following a crash, I reinstalled the OS and several applications including Microsoft Office Professional 2003. I spent a long time amending the personal settings; and changing the desktop background wallpaper, folders options, start-up preferences on utilities such as Uniblue ?PowerSuite?, and so on. Everything was working excellently! Then I went to Microsoft Update. There were 21 critical updates which I duly downloaded and installed. When I restarted my computer I was utterly horrified to find that all my changes had been annulled. The computer worked all right, but I was ?back to square one?. Mistakenly thinking that some inadvertent act on my part had done the damage, I wiped my hard disk and repeated the whole reinstallation process, including amending personal settings. Once again, all was fine ?. until I downloaded and installed the Microsoft updates!!!

I feel sure that one or more of the Microsoft updates are causing the trouble. Having reinstalled everything (for the third time!), I shall next do a ?custom? Microsoft update.

Can anyone advise me which of these Microsoft updates I should avoid (i.e., uncheck in the list)?

The computer is a Packard Bell EasyNote GN45 with 1GB of RAM and a new 160GB Western Digital hard drive. The OS is Windows XP Professional (SP3).

I can't exactly tell you why this seems to work but in my experience I have always downloaded or installed the Windows updates prior to installing anything else such as other programs. Based on your explanation as to the computers bad behavior and the fact that you attempted the same process twice with the identical results I would suggest that you do the clean format and clean install then installing the updates prior to any other program installation.
Computers can be fussy this way.

A:Enable the Microsoft products updates (problem)

this seems to be an issue due to IE11, you can workaround by (temporarily) adding to the Compatibility View Mode list

I installed my windows 7 a few months ago but turned off the updates then. Yesterday I turned on the updates and now the updates are installing since 6 hours ago and it not go through the 177 of 215 update. It sits there since this morning. Please help with solutions. I would really appreciate it. I am afraid I might lose everything on my hard disk if I turn it off or restart it.

A:Problem with Installing updates. Updating blocked

The only thing you can do now is hold the power button in to force a power-out shutdown.
Windows will recover (or at least should!), if you boot to Safe Mode, allow any updates to finish installing, then boot back to Normal Mode, and do another Check for updates.

Here's my preferred methodology for installing the 200+ windows Updates in Vista and Win7...

Note - between each of the below batches of updates, reboot at least once, even if the machine auto-rebooted during the updates. After teh update, do a new Check for Updates. Add any remaining updates or failed updates to the next batch.

1) Install all 'Security Update for Windows'
Check for Updates
(some will have failed, and some new ones will have appeared)
2) Install the remaining/new 'Security Update for Windows'
Check for Updates
3) Install all ordinary 'Update for Windows'
Check for Updates
4) install updates for IE8 - but NOT IE 9/10/11
Check for Updates
5) install all other updates EXCEPT .NET ones and IE9/10/11
Check for Updates
repeat 5 until there's nothing left in the main window except the .NET and IE upgrades

6) Install all Security Updates for .NET - but nothing else
Check for Updates
7) Install all other .NET updates
Check for Updates
8) Install IE10 if offered - IE11 should wait if it's still an Optional update.
9) Install the IE10 updates, then install IE11 and update that.

I recently built a computer out of some parts my friends had given me and everything seems to be running fine except for one thing, I can not install any programs or updates that have been downloaded from the internet. If I download on a different computer and put the installation file on a cd then run it on the computer it installs fine. I can also install from an external hard drive as long as the file was saved to it from a different computer.

I am running windows xp pro with a p4 1.6 processor on a msi 645 ultra-c mainboard.

The error messages I get vary depending on the program or update I am trying to install, but here are most of them.

Could not initiatlize installation. Could not extract Wise0132.dll to ' c:\DOCUME~1\illumin8\LOCALS~1\TEMP\GLC27.tmp', CRC does not match.

NSIS Error. Installer corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a failed download or corruption from a virus. If desperate, try the /NCRC command line switch (NOT recommended)

An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file.

or the

"(file name.exe) has encounterd a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." error

So I have tried to install SP1 versions of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and Ultimate 64 bit from either a burned ISO downloaded from Digital Rivers or on a bootable USB stick, or from a Dell re-installation disc on my Latitude E5410. I can install W7 just fine. However, I am prompted to update my Windows Updater(usually either kb2534111 and/or kb976902). If I reboot after that, the system works fine. However, once I select the first 100+ critical/important updates and install them, the computer locks up on reboot and goes into system repair mode. The error messages range from corruption of the bootloader, windows\system32\drivers\iastora.sys is corrupt Error Code 0x2, to other messages. I've tried to repair under bootsec.exe, system repair, which usually doesn't work, repair from a system repair disc, repair from the Windows disc, which usually doesn't work. I've tried system restore which does work, but then puts me back to where I need to download the updates again. Same with a system image disc. I've tried cleaning up the drive fragments after the initial installation and that hasn't helped either. And I tried a repair installation from Windows ISO, which didn't work either. So I"m kind of stuck. I know that I need to do updating, but I can't do it safely without corrupting the system.

Note: I do a full wipe overwriting with 1's and 0's before doing an install.

A:Booting problem after installing W7 updater and first set of updates

Sounds like your injecting drivers into a driver-complete OS like it's XP. This can cause exactly the problems you're experiencing. Win7 provides the drivers in installer and via Updates. You only need the network driver in backup in case it doesn't start up connected so you can install it to get online and get Updates. Don't inject any of your own drivers until after all Updates are done, then any missing in Device Manager (or if Standard VGA is given for Display) you can import from the Device's or PC's Support Downloads webpage.

Which version of Win7 do you actually own? Why are you trying to install another version than the one you own?

There is no reason to run any more than Diskpart Clean Command and it is only needed if there are installation failures. Otherwise just delete all partitions each time and create/format new. But for a diagnostic install we will have you do just the Clean command.

Install and check now the SMART condition of HD using CrystalDiskInfo - Software. If it shows warnings then Test your HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by a full Disk Check

Do a diagnostic install where you wipe Clean the drive, create/format install partition, install Win7 with ethernet wire connected to increase chance it starts up connected - if not install ethernet or wireless driver to get online.

Then enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3),
check for Updates and install Optional Drivers first, reboot, ch... Read more

But now, when i try installing my audio driver (realtekhd) it always keeps asking me to insert the cd when before it never did. It would always just install fine after getting the driver straight from the gateway website. I would really appreciate somebodies help...

The following error occurs when I try to do so.

[12/10/11,23:58:55] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0SP1 (CBS) is not installed.

So following other advice, I tried using the sfc/ SCANNOW function (Run as administrator) and it always seems to fail at 99%.

The CBS log file is rather large, but these are the sections which contain "Cannot" - CBS Extract.txt below.

This has been frustrating me for some time, and I massively appreciate any help anyone is able to give, I am able new to this forum so if this is the wrong thread areas, please feel free to move.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1100 with Windows XP Pro (SP 2). First of all, my original problem had been switching the display from my laptop's LCD monitor to my external CRT monitor (single display, not dual display, because as far as I know, Inspiron 1100's don't support the extended desktop feature). Anyway, I figured out how to get the external CRT to be the primary display (by way of the Fn + F-number key feature on my latop's keyboard. It works and all, but I'm unable to switch the displays manualy using WIndows XP (Properties > Settings > ...). I used to be able to go into the settings and manually select which display I wanted. I also have an S-Video-to-TV video-in video cable, and I had even been able to manually select that to put the display on my TV. At this time, I can no longer find that feature, so I figured it must be something with my vide card or the graphics drivers. I was trying to reinstall the 2 graphics drivers that I was instructed to by Dell's website ( Drivers and Downloads for Dell Inspiron 1100). But each time I tried to install them, I was given error messages that said I didn't have the propper hardware ( error message 1 and error message 2). I am completely baffled as to why I would get these messages, because I've reinstalled Windows XP Pro on my laptop plenty of times (for my own reasons) and I've never encountered a problem like that. Any ideas as to why I would be geting those 2 messages?

My daughter bought this Windows 8 OEM OS HP Pavilion g6-2240sa 64bit Notebook PC around three years ago and lately it was very slow and she asked me to have a look at it. As it was three years old I decided to do a factory reset from the built in recovery option. I copied the files etc she wanted backed up onto my own PC and followed the instruction in the recovery tool. All appeared to go well and before continuing I deleted some bloatware including Norton Security which had installed even though I unchecked the box telling it not to.

I then began the Windows 8 installation bit and eventually got back on line connected to the internet and ready to begin updating the OS intending to go right through to Win 10. After checking for updates it found 198 files which I set it to install and when it was finished and I had clicked on restart all went well until it hung on the dreaded 13% while configuring updates. I found a solution to this via google but it took a long time (5hr) before it eventually started again and I could sign in. I checked and all seemed well so went back to Windows Update and this time I got 111 which installed perfectly as did the 78 files after that. I restarted the PC again and went back to Windows update where it found 2 more important updates which failed one had the error code 80070002 which I solved via the msn walk through I found on Google. Hi all,

Would some of you mind sharing how you deal with Win7 updates when there's a bunch of them?

For example, yesterday's MS update bunch included 8 updates, some without the need for a restart, some with. I usually select the updates I want, download them all, let them install and follow this with a single restart. After restarting, I noticed my PC would not connect to the net (a persistent red X between the Network and Internet icons in Network and Sharing Center).

I imaged my system back to a pre-update state and this time I loaded the updates one at a time, restarting when asked. This took longer but my internet connection was good throughout.

What's your way of handling updating? Any tips much appreciated.

A:After installing win7 Ult security updates > problem with net connect

I'd accept all Important and Optional Windows Updates so you know your System is patched and drivers are current with what Win7 wants. The only ones I hide are Bingware.

Things have changed since XP days when we might have needed to second guess Updates. You really only have Win7 if you have a fully patched system.

Updates problems are one in a million so if you're get unlucky use System Restore to a point before the batch that glitches. Then reinstall them singly until you find the culprit, tho usually they will then install correctly.

I'm running Vista Home Basic on a Dell Dimension E521. Trying to install a Kensington USB Multi-Display Adaptor. I am using the latest 6.3 version of the Kensington/Display Link software. The monitors are both 17" Dell LCD monitors, one with VGA and the other DVI/VGA.

Installation is aborted mid-way, with a message saying that I need to enable vbscript.dll.

I go to CMD and do that. I get a message saying vbscript successfully enabled. I exit.

I again attempt to install the device. Same result.

I check in Device Manager, which tells me the driver for the device is properly installed and current.

Hello this is driving me nuts.
The software was set for automatic download and install updates.
One day the P.C. would not shut down or restart If I click on closedown or restart nothing happens.
I could system restore to a point before updates but on restart the system would automatically download offending updates ready to install. I could use option to switch off computer without installing offending updates but obviously this is not a viable longterm solution.
With messing about with things trying to fix, I seem to have lost all system restore points earlier than a couple of days ago. At this restore point the updates are downloaded ready but not actually installed.
I have been led to believe that you cannot get rid of the updates without installing them. If I install them the damage is done and if I manually uninstall updates using control panel/ uninstall it does not undo the damage I think you have to restart the computer to complete uninstall which I cannot do because of th... A:Solved: Windows updates installing automatically and causing problem with shut down

Hi Dave, welcome to TSG.

First of all, you don't say how you know for sure that it is the updates causing this problem. Could it just be coincidence that the problem ocurred at that particular time?

Press the Windows + R keys and in the run box type or copy/paste sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and /scannow)

Click ok or press enter.

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.

You may be prompted to insert your Windows CD/DVD, please do so.

If that doesn't work;

It may be that you are infected.

Please download HijackThis:
Please go here to download HijackThis.

Save the HijackThis.exe file to your desktop.
Double-click the HijackThis.exe file on your desktop to launch the program. If you get a security warning asking if you want to run this software because the publisher couldn't be verified click on Run to allow it.
Click on the Scan button. The scan will not take long and when it's finished the resulting log will open automatically in Notepad.
Save the log file to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents of the log in your post.
Please do not fix anything with HijackThis unless you are instructed to do so. Most of what appears in the log will be harmless and/or necessary..

Also, please note that, even if I see signs of infection in your log, I am not qualified to offer advice regarding malware remov... Read more

I am trying to install microsoft visual studios express on my Toshiba laptop running on Windows 7 Home Premium x64, but when I download the installer and start it, I only see the visual express logo and then no screen appears (the program is running and I can even click things, as in, my mouse hoovers over them and when clicking I get terms of use in my browser, but no screen is produced).

After a bit of searching, I think there may be two possible problems causing this:

- When running windows update, two updates fail to install: KB2922229 and KB2871997. I read somewhere that these updates have been withdrawn by microsoft though.

- I encountered similar problems when trying to use Qt (an error was produced that OpenGL 2.0 was not supported); maybe the graphic card driver is not up to date (Intel HD Graphic Family - date 4-4-2011); however, if I try to search for new updates through the configuration screen, no updates are found; if I try to search for new updates through the Intel website, it redirects me to my laptop manufacturer (Toshiba); there I don't find updates either.

That's as far as I got, and I am completely stuck. Thank you for any help, let me know if you require more information about my system.

A:Problem installing Microsoft Visual Studios Express

Hi Scipio, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Did you try with both installation methods, the downloadable installer and the ISO file? If you tried with the regular installer, I recommend you to try the ISO. Download ISO, mount it as a virtual DVD drive or burn to a DVD or Flash drive and try installing from it.

like the title says: I can't get my mouse installed.

When I tried to do it, I got the message that some software on my laptop could give a conflict with the software I wanted to install. The problem was the Mouseware I got from my other mouse, a cordless optical mouse from Logitech.
I was asked to remove this program, wich I gave my approval for. Then I had to reboot, and thought everyhing should be fine.
But after the reboot I got the same message again, this time pointing to other software, meaning the software from the touchpad of my laptop ( Synaptics )
Again I was asked to remove it, but this time, that was not possible ...

First of all I ask myself the question: why in god's name I should remove this software ?? (it has allways worked fine with my Logitech mouse)
Second: what can I do about this ... any suggestions ?

It's a compatiablitiy issue. Visual Studio 2005 will only work with XP Home/XP Pro and 2000. For Vista you have to use Visual Studio 2008. There is a free trial version Through MS. Good luck.

When I make an all day entry, like a birthday for example, and I view the calendar folder for a month, the appointment spans two days - the day of the appointment itself and the day after it, and the box that contains the appointment is bookended by clock icons.

If I open the appointment, click on recurrence, click OK (did not change anything), click Save and Close, the display will appear "normal" -- meaning it spans the day of the event, without the clocks on the sides.

Any ideas on how to correct this?

Look at the start and end dates when you create the appointment. The only way I can get mine to do that is by having the start and end dates being the current day and the next day.

I am having a big problem which I can't seem to solve on my own and REALLY need some help! Somehow, while searching for a foreign language translation feature I must have turned on the speech recognition feature of Outlook. Now when I am trying to write an email, nothing will print when I go to type in my message text. I can type in the "subject" area OK, but when I go to type within the message part of my email, nothing happens. Through clicking around I found that if I click on the "A" icon just above the message window in the toolbar, then the typing feature is active and I am able to type in my message, but otherwise it will not work. I have looked in HELP in both Outlook and Microsoft Office Word to find out how I can get my email program back to the default settings - just plain old "type in your message" stuff - but I just can't seem to find the answer. Microsoft is no help because the program was installed by the people who custom build my computer and they referred me back to them. The computer guys can't figure it out either because it is a software "issue".... I must add that Outlook worked great until I started clicking around to find out about the language translation feature. So, if anyone can send me instructions on how the hell to turn off this voice recognition feature (and I am assuming this is the issue here) so I can get back to my regular email business, please do so ASAP. I am throwing the challenge ... Read more

Hi all

I work for a company that sends out three newsletters a day. I have been having serious problems after people receive our newsletters, sometimes a link will get corrupt and its always the same way...

it adds an "!%" into the link address.

Its not always in the same spot but always in a link.

I've tried three different mailing softwares. It happens to all of them so I think i can rule that out.

It seems AOL subscribers get the links just fine but outlook users get this problem quite often.

Anyone ever hear or know about this?

Thanks for any help in this matter...

Not really possible. Can you set your mail up on another machine to see if that behaves the same? If Outlook is being buggy, try a different and better e-mail handler, such as Thunderbird - Mozilla Firefox browser's sister programme. Download it from - you don't need to set it as Default until you're sure you like it but you can import settings and files from Outlook without losing their use in Outlook.

The message probably came from the mail server. Some ISPs limit the number of recipients for a single message (like maybe 20). If you are using a corporate server, you should talk to the administrator.

If it was done using Outlook's built-in security functions, it's very simple.

Problem is.... when I open my email, it tells me I got new mail (anywhere from 1-3 at a time), yet they are not showing up. Sometimes they do but usually they do not. Seems to be getting worse with time. Rare for anything to actually show up anymore. I do not seem to have a problem getting tons of junk mail but nothing much else.
I have even send myself emails for tests and some times they show up & other times they do not, even though it says new email messages.
