Labtop just turns off?

Q: Labtop just turns off?

This post is cross-listed in other areas.

I am having problems with my Dell Inspiron 2650 with Windows XP Home.
It just turns off randomly without warning, usually while I am playing Age of Mythology by Microsoft. It also kills itself while running McAfee VirusScan and Nero CD burning software. At one point it was doing it every 30 minutes or so. I finally ran enough of VirusScan to detect some viruses, which I promtly deleted, ran ad-aware, etc. It subsided temporarily, but now does it almost exclusively while playing AOM. It the game creating the problem? Or the cd-rom? I am lost on this one.

A: Labtop just turns off?

What is a Labtop?

Is it something like a Laptop?
Sounds like an overheating issue. Are the airvents free of dust etc? Has it always done it?

I have a ASUS U36SG CI5 2.5 6GB/500 GT610M 13.3" W7HP labtop,

i have spilled a liquid substance on it 2 times, first its was icetea, cleaned it in disstiled water, worked fine after, second time around i spilled coffee, and thats when it went wrong.

afte i spilled the coffee, the labtop turned itself off. so i took out the AC, and battery. and left it to dry for a day or 2, then turned it back on, but it keept tuening on and shutting off. so i took the labtop apart, and cleaned the mobo, and other componants in distilled water, looks all new a shiny now . but when i tryed to tuen it on again, it loaded to the part where it asked, start windows nomaly, or repair. then i pressed one of them and it shut down and started to turn on and shut down after a few sec, and kept on doing this. reapeated this a few times, but the result dident change, so i tryed without battery, would not power up, just with the battery, would not power up. so i left the ac and battery in, and came to the start windows normaly or repair, took out the AC, and it could boot all the way. but as soon as i plug the AC back in it turns off.

So my big question is, what could or is this problem, and can it be solved without replaceing any major components.

Yours senserly!

The poor student!

After getting a couple blue screens I am having the following issue:

When I turn my computer on, the fans and drives all start up. After approx. 2 seconds the computer shuts itself off. After another 2 seconds the computer turns itself back on again. This time it stays on but i have no monitor output. I don't hear a beep which tells me it is probably not posting.

I have read a few other threads that have a similar issue but not the same. I am thinking it is either the mobo, GPU, or PSU.

I would like any guidance and assistance that you guys can give me on this specifically what i should look at first and how to diagnose. Thanks. system specs below:

ASUS P5Q Pro ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.16GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 896-P3-1265-AR Video Card
Antec EA650 650W Power Supply
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Memory

A:Computer turns on, turns off then turns back on but has no video output

Motherboard Short

I have helped somebody who had a similar issue and it was the motherboard being shorted out by the case. We took the motherboard out of the case and it booted up just fine. Something you might want to try before purchasing new components.

I have an external DVD CDRW drive that keeps being added then removed added then removed. That is all that it does. You know how Windows XP does. It plays that little two tone sound each time a device is added or is so annoying. I cannot use the drive as it does not stay "added" long enough. I am stumped...I have never heard anything like it. Have you?

A:External DVD CDRW Drive turns off, turns on, turns off...etc.

Did the unit ship with drivers? ?
It also might be a cable issue. Inspect that cable or try a new one and or another USB port. If you have it on the front of the case try it on a rear USB port. I've seen machines where the front ports carried less power than the rear ones.

I'm having trouble with two of my desktops.
Desktop #1 Problem:
When all cords and such are plugged in, I press the power button. The desktop turns on for about 1-2 seconds and then restarts. The bios doesn't flash, the os doesn't boot. As far as I can tell the desktop restarts indefinitely. Any ideas what's going on here?
--Desktop Type: HP Pavilion a705W
I found someone with a similar problem here

Desktop #2 Problem:
I bought some 3M Dust Remover a few days ago. I disconnected power, along with everything else, from a desktop of mine. Pulled the cover off and started blowing the dust out of the case. I put everything back together, plugged it in, and the desktop doesn't work. It boots to a blank screen with the the power and hard drive led's stuck on, on the front of the desktop. The led on the back of the power supply turns on, I can hear the hard drive spin up, it detects the cd/dvd drives, floppy drive and then just hangs with the led's stuck on. Anyone have an idea what might be going on here?
--Desktop Type: Compaq Presario S4200NX

Thanks for the help, I'm hoping to get atleast one of these back online w/o buying a whole new desktop.

A:HELP! Desktop turns on and restarts repeatedly, other turns on to black screen

Desktop 1:

Do you see anything on your screen at all while this is happening?

Have you tried to press the setup key to see if the BIOS will come up and make changes?

Do you have any USB devices (other than keyboard or mouse) hooked up? If so, try disconnecting them and see if it will at least POST or attempt to go into the OS.

WARNING: Before checking the capacitors, disconnect the power cord on your system and press & hold the POWER button to allow the power to discharge! Also, you should always ground yourself before touching computer components to prevent static discharge!

Just FYI, some of the motherboards in this series of HP’s have issues with the capacitors.

You should take a look at the capacitors to see if the tops of them are raised or discolored. Also, if you put your finger on the top of the capacitors, they should feel as if they are INDENTED and not flush or raised. Raising or discoloration (up to and including a black tar looking substance on the tops indicate a leaking capacitor).

Desktop 2:

Any POST sounds (beeps) produced at all?

Have you tried the monitor from Desktop 1 on this one?

Anything at all displayed on the monitor, to include CHECK CABLE message?

Recommendation: Open the case again and ensure that all the cards, memory, drive cables and so forth are all connect properly and not loose or dislodged.

Referring to a Toshiba Tecra 9100, model no: PT910E-602SF-EN

The power button normally doesn?t turn it on at all, though occasionally it boots up normally, starts to load windows, then always cuts out after 5-15 seconds anyway.

It still charges up the batteries fine, but won?t turn on. I?ve checked the ram, hard-drive, and I re-set the bios to defaults - nothing stops it from cutting out if you can get it to turn on.

Any ideas what could be the problem? Any help appreciated, it?s the second time one I?ve had - the same problem last time!

A:Tecra 9100 turns on intermittently, and turns off after 10-15 seconds

Have you already tried cleaning the fan? Maybe a lot of dust is blocking the fan so the notebook can?t start and turns off itself due a higher temperature. It would be worth a try cleaning it.

But in my opinion you have everything done what you can do and it looks like a mainboard malfunction. If cleaning the fan doesn?t help I think the mainboard is defective or something else. If you are familiar with notebook disassembling you can try to repair it yourself with second hand parts. Otherwise it?s time for a new notebook I think?

Trying to build a system for my brother. I put the 3200+ Athlon XP CPU in and with the heatsink. It turns on for maybe a few seconds and then turns off.

People were saying heatsink but I have tried it on 2, one is the ALK-800A, then some CoolerMaster one. I have to admit the CoolerMaster was originally from my 2100+ setup but still, it's all copper.

I do notice when I remove the CPU, it stays turned on. I know pretty sure this CPU works as I tested like hours before I put it in my brothers. Cant do that now since it was a quite a drive back home from college.

I HAVE READ OTHER SIMILAR THREADS ------ My PC actually has the fans / lights AND can't even get anywhere on the BIOS.

4gb ram
7950 GT
3.44 GHz Intel Pentium D
250gb HD
Foxconn P35A (mobo)
My mom took my PC away from me, I got it back and it is retarded now.
I start the PC, the fans come on, lights are all good, then about 2 -10 seconds it shuts off and then comes back on by itself.

When I turn the power on, the monitor does not show anything at all.

I have tried many of different things:

Different PSU ( problem is not the PSU )

D/C the CD ROM / HD ( so it can't be one of those as a failure )

1 stick of RAM ( my memory is fine )

Checked ALL of my cables, they are connected properly ( checked many of times, unconnected, then reconnected alot )

Replaced the grease between heat sink / CPU ( can't be my CPU or overheating problem )

Heat sink / Fan is properly mounted ( not loose at all and is flat )

All of the aluminum capacitors on the mother board are perfectly fine ( not leaking / and are on proper )

Reset the mother board a few times....

well thats MOST of the stuff I have done, there is probably more but I can't think of what else I have tried at the moment.
And BTW, can't access BIOS so don't ask if I can get into it.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:PC turns retarded, shuts off after few seconds, turns back on

Reset the mother board a few times....Click to expand...

Do you mean you have tried resetting the bios jumper, on the Motherboard?
If not do that.

Also, have you tried disconnecting all HDD; Floppy; CD data cables (from the motherboard end (actually I'd do case fan too and front USB connection to motherboard)
If this works, you will need to put one back in at a time, until you find the problem

Usually this fault is related to faulty Ram or CPU

I'm looking for some advice and guidance.
I am not a technical expert on computer hardware. I understand the basics and that's about the extent of it.

My current PC is a Dell desktop/tower; it runs Windows 7; it uses an Intel Core Duo processor. It is a few years old (I'd estimate 3 or 4 years old). I plug my PC into a Belkin surge protector/multi-outlet device, which plugs into the wall electrical outlet.

My problem is that recently the PC randomly has been instantly powering-down and then a few seconds later powering-up again and rebooting. This happens twice or 3 times a day, on average. I have no explanation for it. I do know that it's highly annoying and I'm concerned and want to do something to fix this problem before any permanent damage occurs to my PC.

Last week, I searched the internet briefly for advice, and the two possible causes that popped-up in search results were: A) overheating, or B) issues with the power cord. Given that, over the past week, in my spare time, I have totally rerouted all the cords and wires behind my computer desk, to ensure that no wires were tangling, pulling, or weighing-down on the power cord for my PC. I also totally dusted out the cabinet and backside of the PC tower, and gently vacuumed the "fan" area on the back of the PC, to ensure it was free of dust and lint. I removed some random objects from the PC cabinet (CD's, mice, keyboard, etc.) to ensure that there was plenty of "ai... Read more

So, I installed Vista yesterday and it was working like a charm and last night I turned the computer off.

I woke up this morning, pressed the power button, lights/fans/computer came on for a few seconds (3 seconds approximately) and then the computer just shut off instantly, then another 3 secondsish later it turned back on and did the same thing, and it keeps doing it.
The only way I could fix it was by unplugging the power cable and turning off the switch at the power socket, I thought it may was a one-off thing.

I left the computer on, got back about 6 hours later and the computer was off (nobody turned it off, no power blackouts etc), I turned it on and it did the same thing. So I had to turn it off at the power etc and it boots up fine and it works.

This wasn't happening until I installed Vista.

Thanks in advance.

A:Computer turns on for a few seconds then turns off [loop]

I just realised, I haven't been shutting the computer down, just been clicking the power button in the Start Menu (which I have just realised isn't shut down - hovered over it: Keeps your session in memory and puts the computer in a low-power state so that you can quickly resume working). I'm fair sure this is "Sleep" (Vista noob).
I just went into Power Options and saw that Sleep was set to 1 hour, so I'm assuming:

* Last night I put my computer into sleep
* Today it went into sleep by itself (after 1 hour)

Therefore it's a problem with the sleep mode?

Hey guys I need help, during startup Windows Firewall turns off upon system startup and then turns back on a few minutes later, then network connections open up to finish up my bootup process. I have SP3, and this little problem is causing my computer to startup slowly significantly. I have tried scanning for viruses and spyware and have found none, so I really don't know what's causing this to happen.

A:Firewall turns off and upon startup and then turns back on

That's normal, in my experience.

Not just with Windows firewall but any other firewall I've played with...the network connection is the last line of system defense when the system boots.

The firewall won't allow contact with the Internet...until the system is totally setup and out of danger. The firewall activates (along with the other startup items), then the network connection is made.

VidCard - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470
PSU - Fortron/FSP Everest 80Plus 800

when I restart my computer, this doesn't happen anymore.. It only occur when I completely turn the computer and UPS off..

I bought this system a month ago. I have to option to bring this to the shop where I bought it but I want to know what the possible issues are.. Most of computer shops here in our country replaces some parts w/o the owner's knowledge.. >.<

First off, hello fellow tech peoples!

Now, to business:

- ASUS Maximus Vi Hero
- Intel i7-4770k
- 2x16 GB RAM Corsair Dominator Platinum
- Corsair H100i
- Corsair RM750 PSU

The Issue:

As I've mentioned, the computer either goes into two states: it either starts up fine, until about error code 79 - CSM Initialization then pops back down to 00 and shuts off. It then proceeds to turn on again for a split second before turning all the way off and never back on again. The second state is that it turns off again at error code 79 and turns back on, but it will infinitely repeat this process. Both states do not display anything on screen and do not boot into the BIOS screen.

Tried (and failed) solutions:

- I've already checked up on the POST Checklist and tried all solutions.
- Everything is firmly connected, everything that CAN be connected IS connected.
- I've tried to start it up with every combination of RAM sticks: 4 in all slots, 2 in 2 slots and a single slot as well as none at all; still get the error. (no RAM installed gives me error 53)
- All components are firmly seated in their respective slots.
- The PSU is a newly acquired one, straight out of the box.
- I've disconnected each component and tested it without them and have still received the same problem.
- I've tried resetting the CMOS battery to no avail.
- I initially believed it to be an inoperable case fan, but I got that working and it still gives me the ... Read more

After i re-built everything and was planning on turning it on, all the fans started spinning and the Led's turned on but only for about 3 seconds. it then turned off. okay so i am able to turn my computer on for a few seconds but then it automatically shuts itself off after a few seconds but the thing is after letting it sit for a couple seconds it says something about how the clocks on my processor have been overclocked too high and asks if it wants me to restore them, so i do that and then the computer works fine, but then when i turn it off and turn it back on it does the exact same thing until i get that message again.

any ideas on how i can fix this?

i've tried manually reducing the clocks on my cpu even though they were already at stock clocks and that didnt work

system specs:
windows 7 ultimate 64bit
intel core 2 quad q6600 @ 2.4ghz standard clocks
4gb ddr2-800 ram
ati hd 4760 1gb ddr3

please and thank you

A:computer turns on for a few seconds then turns off

Try resetting the bios on the motherboard.

You can do this by opening up the computer and remove the battery and then reinstall. There are also a jump to do the samething, but you have to look at your motherboards manual /user guide to see where it's located.

My labtop is constantly shutting down on its own. Sometimes it shut down when I turn on the labtop after 5 seconds, sometimes it shut down in 20 minutes, and sometimes it just won't even turn on. I think its because it is overheating but I don't know what to do. Can anyone give me simple steps that can possibly solve this problem? I have a window XP labtop, bought about less than a year. If you need to know anything I can tell you... if my labtop doesn't shut down automaticly again. Thanks!

A:Toshiba Labtop

It's hard to imagine it overheating in 5 seconds. If it's still under warranty, I suggest contacting Toshiba, don't let the warranty run out before you let them take a crack at it.

One quick check, try a memory test, here's two to choose from.

I recently allowed my cousin to borrow my labtop. But I think they may have visited some bad websites. My labtop has been very slow to respond since they used it. And when I try to use a web browser it takes me to websites I did not click. My sister has tried to help me by removing my internet cache with CCleaner. And by running McAfee antivirus to check for viruses. The antivirus didn't find anything wrong. So she deleted some programs I wasn't using. Then she changed my advanced system performance settings to lower my memory usage with visual effects. I don't know a lot about computers. But I think there may still be something wrong with it. How do I check to make sure? I'm using a dell labtop with windows 7.

I have an HP envy 17 se nb pc. Turned the computer off at night and then turned it on in morning.
It asked for a windows password which I had disabled because I don't want to type it in all the time.
So I typed in the previous password and the screen said it was the wrong password. The computer then shut down by itself. I turned it back on and the screen is black and the caps lock button is giving me two blinks which means the bios needs updating. Went to the Microsoft site for bios update and all there instructions
will not work. Also the hard drive light blinks for about ten seconds an then goes off. I also think that the fan is not running and the computer gets very warm. I also removed the battery and the power plug and just plugged the power plug back in. This computer seems to be dead in the water. Can anyone help Thank you: Rodwell

A:Labtop Will Not Start

When I search for Envy 17 se nb, I get 68 results.
You'd get the BIOS from HP not Microsoft. The problem is that with 68 models, no one but you knows exactly which model you have and which drivers to link you to.
pick the correct model from the 68 showing.

Ok, so I have been told for months now that I need to back up my labtop to cds incase of a computer crash or something. But a combination of being tight on money and being busy with my school work caused me to put it off until now. So I go to walmart, buy some cds, verify that those sort of cds are correct for backing up computer info and get started on the process. The first cd it takes less then 20 mins to completely back up as much as it will. So I switch out cds and the second one starts loading, that doesn't take very long for it to fill up either. But when I went to switch cds again I got a pop up message indicading that something had gone wrong and that the ending of the backing up on that cd and that I had to redue it again. So I started again and it didn't take long for the cd to get filled up again, at this point about 25% of my computer had been backed up. I then switched out cd's again, expecting that it wouldn't take long for this third cd to get filled up, maybe 20 min. at the most like the other cds. About 15 min later I checked on my computer and it showed that about 31% of my computer has now been backed up. That was 4 hours ago and it is still saying that only 31% is done. Should I be consurned? How can I speed this process up?

A:Opening a Labtop

-=Go here to download the HP service manual:

-=Pages 107-117 detail the instructions for removal of the keyboard.

-=Page 75 has part numbers for replacement keyboards, if you want to just replace it.

-=Here is a link to an online store where you can buy the keyboard. It's not the lowest price, but it's a reliable vendor.

-=If you want to look for more price and store options, hit and search for the product number for the appropriate keyboard. For the US version it is 383664-001.

PS: *whistles* that's a long process just to remove a keyboard... Have fun and be careful. Oh, and remember that you may be voiding your warranty.

Why does my laptop heat up so fast??? the fan stays on continuously.

Do I have too many running processes?
I usually have around 45 running processes. Can someone help me to reduce the running processes? I dont know which ones i need!

A:Why Is My Labtop Fan Always Running?

You might open Task Manager to see if a single process is using 90-100% of your CPU. Right click an empty space on the task bar and select Task Manager. Select the Processes tab and scroll through the listed processes. If one is using all of the CPU power, the fan will run constantly, fast, and usually loudly.

I've had problems with AdobeUpdater and SymantecUpdater in the the extent that I uninstalled Adobe Reader and Norton AntiVirus (Norton couldn't come up with a solution).

Let me know if this solves your problem or if you find the process that may be causing the problem.

A:turn on my labtop

On a new installation you should have 30 days before Windows 7 gives you a hard time about entering the key and even then it should allow you to enter it.You just bought a refurbished laptop and it should have some sort of warranty, bring it back or contact where you purchased it from for help, there may be something wrong with it.If it is for some reason out of warranty, then try a Factory Restore but assume that anything you have saved on it and any programs you added will be gone. If there is anything important on the drive and you do not have access to save it, boot to a Live Linux DVD (Don't install) to access your hard drive to save your files to an external drive. You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Your wire connection to the internet is disabled. Is this intentional? What else did you disable when disabling the connection?

4 of the last 5 memory dumps blame NETw5v64.sys (your wireless networking device driver). The other blames a Windows network driver that was likely crashed by your NETw5v64.sys driver.

This should be the link for your 64 bit wireless networking driver. Please download this one, uninstall the old one, and then install the new one.

Here's a summary of the last 5 memory dumps:

Hello everybody
My laptop is a Acer Aspire 5750G running Windows 7 Home Premium
How it started, My computer started shutting of by itself, I read up on this and the common problem was my hard drive overheating. I tried to clean the vents and also keep it well ventilated, with time passing my computer started getting slower and one day totally froze, and suddenly gave me a blue screen.
I could not do a screenshot of the blue screen, as it disappeared and my computer restarted. After restart my computer was really slow, and my computer gave me the following error on Intel rapid storage technology - Image included.
Can you please help me as I don't know what is going on. I will also post my DDS scan now
Thank you for your time!!!!

My dad labtop is in pretty bad shape and it's hard enough just to get HJT or anything onto the computer, then running them properly is another story. It's an Accer, XP. Don't think you need anything. It's almost impossible to work with. There's about 3 anti-virus's on it. Not sure if there even real ones or false ones he downloaded from the virus.- Safe mode's not working, just gives a list of drivers and crap.- It's just constantly rebooting explorer I believe every couple a seconds. Lots of popups saying "Your computer is probably infected, click yes to download software to remove it."- Can't right click without the restarting effect- Could only manage an older version on HJT that doesn't need to be installed- I can't killbox the files from system32I can't even open notepad or open any folder.Any help would be greatly appreciated.Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS... Everytime it gets to the log in area it says "This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can continue. You cannot log on until you activate windows" when i click yes it says its already activated and i click ok and nothing. please help

A:MY Labtop doesnt log in

Hello coolchiliboy

Try logging in in Safe Mode.
When boot up begins, start pressing F8 repeatedly until you see the Advanced Options page.
Select Safe Mode and try to boot all the way into XP there.
Post back what happens then.

Is your copy of XP genuine?
Have you actually activated it before?

im ok with upgrading regular pc's, i've built a few, but i have a friend who asked me to take a look at his labtop, its a p3 forgot how fast, but he wants to upgrade the ram, he has 160mb, i guess i gotta find out how much it can hold.. he has about a gig left on the hard drive, not sure im gonna upgrade that, but if i do, i just wanna make sure its not rocket science... sorry i dont have the model number, and its a compaq...

should i be able to do it? yes or no?

A:labtop upgrades...

You can definetly add more RAM if it isn't maxed out (probably not, 160 is a weird number) and replacing the HD can be done too.

You can check all the hardware limitations from the Compaq website (if you know the model number of course).

Here's the problem: Whenever I turn on my labtop and after couple seconds of using it, the screen suddenly turns blue and on the top says "beginning dump of physical memory" and then below it says "physical dump complete" then my labtop restarts. I think the cause of the problem was because I turned the labtop off by unplugging it [rather than doing the proper shut down] because it kept freezing. Any solutions to this problem? I know I didn't download any virus-infected programs because I have A LOt of anti-virus firewalls and the only things I put on the computer are: starcraft, msn messenger, and limewire. Any help will be appreciated.

Here are my specs: Windows 2000 professional, Pentium4, 400 Mhz

A:Labtop problem

It seems that you have either run out of memory.

How much memory is currently installed on the system (RAM)

And are you positive those are the only things on the computer?

to check:

control panel>>system>>look at the bottom of the window that pops up and tell us what it says.

Hello all first post and its a challenge, at least for me. Here is the deal...My bud purchased a labtop at one of those "liqidation sales'" a week ago and its a nice labtop, person who sold it was legit and it booted up and all was fine. It currently has w2k pro on it and I am going to put XP Pro on it. Here is the problems. BTW this is an IBM Thinkpad.

The machine only has a cd-rom bay and I tried to install xp pro via the cd-rom drive and no dice. Upon the boot I hit F12 to choose boot seqence and I choose cd-rom and it just goes to the w2k start up screen. My XP cd is a retail version.

So I then decided I would have to access the bios to make it boot by default to the cd-rom, well the bios are password protected. So no dice there also.

So I acutally went to do the install via w2k, I can log on as the username and the pass he was given for a "guest account" I load w2k and everything is fine, when I pop in the xp cd and choose install, it says I have to be an administrator to run this program. So I checked the accounts and I was able to screw around with a member of the admin group, I will use the name "John" as the account. "John" is a member of the admin group and has full control of the computer. I changed the password for "John" and was able to log on as him. However same thing, have to be an admin to run the install.

So I changed the password of the administrator and tried loggin back on as admin and got "... Read more

I've been concerning for a while. When I go in public, people whom I really don't know start looking at me and gossiping about my confidential stuff that I store only in my hard drive. 2 days ago, my chrome's extensions disabled themselves while I walk away from the Notebook which was connecting to an unsafe network of my boss house (I had no choice but connect to the network which I set it as public in my windows 7 pro) and they re-enabled back before I came back to see the monitor. I know this because when extensions in Chrome are disabled and re-enabled, their original places on the bar would change its location, when I came back to my Notebook, all the extensions were messed up.

What should I do to confirm that someone hacked my notebook and how can I check if their are some Trojan/backdoor left in my notebook. I had run and saved a dds log and gmer log into my desktop but the forum description suggest that I should not post it here. So, what should I do?
