Use Windows Updates to find Driver Updates

Q: Use Windows Updates to find Driver Updates

Use Windows Update to find driver updates

In Windows Update click Custom Install in the main column, and then click Select optional hardware updates in the left-hand column.

Windows Update examines all parts of your system to determine what needs updating and it may recommend more than just driver updates. It's a good idea to visit Windows Update regularly for driver updates and other non-critical updates.

Hi there

We got the crashed on machine running on Windows 10 started on last Wednesday and it's been working well for almost 1 month. After troubleshooting and restoring, we came across it's something to do with the Intel Drivers Display update that might causing this.

Once we restored the machine, the Windows Updates has already listed the driver ready to install as well all KBs. My question how do I stop/clear this list from running?

To prevent this update automatically on the driver, I went to the System > Hardware tab > Device Installation Settings > No. However this only preventing it running in the future and I need to stop appearing from the list as stated previously.

I came across previously with Windows 7 which is relating on one of particular updates that causing stuck on Windows Updates ... I know there is away to stop this action and clear up this updates cataloq. But not sure on Windows 10.

I'm appreciated your feedback and comment.

Thanks

I am helping a lady that her harddrive went bad so Dell put in a new one. I put the antivirus and some programs back on for her but I went to windows updates cause there should be a whole lot of updates there such as sp1 and all the updates that sp1 would have now (I told her she does not want sp2 right now) so where do I get the updates and how do I know what updates should be downloaded, it does not show any updates in add/remove programs and at the windows update site it only showed one update which I downloaded, but there has to be a whole bunch, anyone know anything about this?? Where to get the ones she needs and what ones they are??, Hope so Thanks

I have done 3 clean installs. It said it found 221 updates when I first checked, resatarted and it says I have only 6 updates installed and when I check for updates it says I am up to date, which I cannot be, with only 6 updates!!!

Troubleshooter said it couldn't find anything. I have went through multiple steps that include stopping Windows update service and restarting, deleting Software distribution, etc. NOTHING works, at all. This is crazy. I went from 8.1 to 10 and it checks and says I am up to date, but I am not, I only have a few updates. What the hell is going on? Is there NO Way I can download the latest updates to a disk and install that way? Not one "fixit" actually fixes anything and the trouble shooter is worthless too! It is a Dell Inspiron 4gb RAM 64 bit. This is nuts and I have never had this issue, for this long. It literally checked for updates for 3 days and nothing. Now it checks and says I am up to day, with only 6 updates installed

I tried this
net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv

net start cryptSvc

net start bits

net start msiserver

I did a complete re-install, then a reset, nothing I am still getting the service registration missing or corrupt. I have stopped and restarted the services, made sure they are automatics, etc. What the hell is going on!!

Assuming I can get it to boot on my hardware (I have had pretty good luck with that in the past), I don't want windows to update the drivers, because then he will get drivers for the wrong hardware.
But it would be nice to get him the other windows updates.

A:Multimedia Audio Controller unable to find driver updates

Hi,

Follow the below mentioned steps in order which could fix the issue:

Click "Start". Right-click the "My Computer? icon. Choose "Properties," "Hardware" and "Device Manager."

Click "Sound, video and game controllers". Right-click the multimedia audio controller and choose "Update Driver". Click "Next". Allow Windows to search its driver database for updated drivers.

Go to the sound card, motherboard or computer manufacturer website. Go to the download section and check for updated sound card drivers. Download the drivers to your computer if you find an update.

Double-click the downloaded file. Follow the on-screen instructions to go through the driver installation. Generally you choose an installation location, agree to the license agreement and click "Next" until the installation is complete. Restart your computer.

Hello,

I am hoping someone can provide some assistance in getting rid of this BSOD problem.

Here is what happened.

I was using two driver update programs: One called Driver Booster 2 by Iobit and the other called Slimdrivers.

I updated various drivers including Nvidia which I had previously uninstalled but it kept popping up so I just let it go. The next thing I know, after that is installed and there were no more drivers left to install, I ran Windows Update and it also wanted to installed Nvidia again. I didn't have much choice in the matter...before I knew it, it was installing and I had to restart my computer. When the computer turned on again, I used it for a little while then it started to overheat something terrible. The computer was so hot I thought it was going to start on fire. Almost as soon as it started overheating, I got the BSOD and within a second it restarted or shut down. I can't remember which. The fan was running at top speed but that still wasn't enough. I could have cooked an egg on the backside of this thing.

So the next day, I started the computer up again and I uninstalled Nvidia completely using Iobit's Uninstaller to remove all traces of it in my computer. But the other problem I have now is that it still runs dangerously hot within a few hours.

I've uploaded the zip file as per the instructions. There must be some kind of conflict going on.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

A:BSOD after installing NVidia updates and other driver updates

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup program before you upload another zip.

A:Windows 7 updates same for updates every time it checks for updates

See if you can System Restore to before Net Framework 4 was installed and then Hide it when it is again offered in Updates.

But be aware that some programs will need it and may not prompt you of this leaving you to guess why they are not installing or performing correctly. For this reason I always install it.

So you might want to reinstall it using its standalone installer since it may not have uninstalled correctly anyway.

If so, why doesn?t DELL send me emails or update automatically?

I won?t mind buying a software, but which one?

Sorry, so many questions. Thanks in advance.

A:BUY? Driver Updates or Scanner Updates

Forget the driver update software, unless you are having issues you don't need to update any drivers and if you do you should get then directly from the manufacturers website and not via a 3rd party product.

Also please do not repost the same question in multiple sections of the site as that is against forum rules.

A:I Can't Find Updates With Windows Update

RE : SFC /Scannow gives me unable to fix some of the corrupted files

Please run this image restorehealth command............................
In the same Command Prompt (Admin) windows, copy and paste this command...........

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

> press Enter.
Again it will take some time.
When finished, it will give you a report.

If it fails to finish and you get an error message " sources file could not be found ", then use this Tech Bench link below and download the ISO file. You need to do that because you need the Install.wim file which only Tech Bench will provide.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/techbench

Once you have the iso downloaded, right click at the ISO > click Mount > leave it there.
Then open the same command prompt (Admin), and copy and paste this................

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:wim:H:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

Note : H is the drive where the iso is mounted. Change it if your driver letter is different.

When it is completed, you should get the report that the operation is successful.
Now run the sfc /scannow again. It should be ok this time.

Just before turning off the laptop late last night and because I'd not been notified in some time that Windows Updates were available, I checked for Windows Updates and then downloaded and installed 17 updates that were all marked recommended or important.  Unfortunately, I wasn't aware that MS had changed the Windows 10 nagware KB3035583 from optional to important, so it again got downloaded and installed also -- as I saw the Windows 10 icon in task bar this morning.  I finally got KB3035583 uninstalled and then hidden, so now the icon is gone.

However, two questions please.
1)  Per attached images, the Update page still reads for me to upgrade to Windows 10 now (I've never had this before), and when I display "show available updates", there's a download ready for Windows 10 but no KB number associated with it.  And I cannot seem to remove the checkmark next to this download.

2) On BC's home page, it says there are six critical updates that should be installed immediately.  None of these were included in the updates I installed last night October 15th, and when I check for "available updates", they are not listed.  How can I get these critical updates?

Thank you for you assistance.

A:Can't find Windows critical updates

I guess no one is interested in helping with this.  As with topic http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/593361/failure-to-download-updates-error-code-80073712/, I have run the Windows Update Troubleshooter two times and get the same result (image attached).  The Troubleshooter says the error 8024402c is not fixed; but in the report section, it says it is fixed.

I reset the wuauserv through command prompt and now the Windows Update is red X as not working at all, saying I've never updated, but the "installed updates" page show the 459 updates that are installed.

According to the Microsoft community, my error,  0x8024402c refers to this API error description - WU_E_PT_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED.

Also, there's a CbsPackageServingFailure2 that occurred at about the same time this morning that the update wouldn't work.

Hi HP experts. Last night i made a clean install with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with service pack 1 included - when that said i can only see one update in installed updates, and its kb 976902. And i also installed the nessecary drivers, and Trend Micro as my Internet Security - so far so good. For about 12 hours Windows Update has now been running without finding any updates at all, and it keeps running. I have tried in Windows firewall to make a firewall rule for C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe - because i read somewhere that it might be the firewall that blocked Update - and i have tried to run the windows update diagnostic tool, and it said it solved a couple of things and then i restarted the laptop but still no luck. I hope that one of you can help me on the way to a functioning Windows Update, so do any of you have a solution ? It would be very much appreciated. Also i have to say that i have a reserve laptop, where i for a long time ago also made a clean install with windows 7 home premium 64 bit, and on that one it takes a very long time to run update also, but a least it finds something. So perhaps i a doing something wrong on both laptops ?

I'm using a Toshiba Laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. The computer is used only occasionally and, when opened, it usually downloads numerous Windows updates and installs them automatically. Before today, the last updates (84) were installed 7/26/2015, before that on 6/10/2015 5 updates were installed, before that on 5/24/2015 19 updates were installed. Today when the computer was opened, Windows tried to find and download updates and ran continuously without downloading any updates. I ran the Windows Update troubleshooter and it fixed some problems but also reported discrepancies that it could not fix (Error 0x80070057(2015-09-20-T-03_12_40P). I installed Hotfix for Windows (KB947821) apparently without results. I ran chkdsk and sfc scannow. The log produced after scannow, said "Access Denied when I tried to open it. I have the SR tagged lines in the log file from C:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log which appears to show that several lines have discrepancies which were not fixed. I have no idea how to repair them.

Now the good news. After multiple restarts in the processes described above, Windows Update found, downloaded and installed 42 updates. Upon shutdown and restart it finished the installation of three of them and all appear to be current.

Now the however, Windows update troubleshooter still reports two "not fixed" errors: "Windows update error 0x80070057(2015-09-20-T-10_39_56P)" and "Problems installing recent updates."

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:

A:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:

Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.

You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silver... I keep getting Error message: Install Failure after Windows updates are downloaded and Windows attempts to install those updates.

After Windows attempts the installations of those updates, I get the following message: Failure configuring Service Pack. Reverting Changes. Error_install_failure (0x80070643).

I contacted Microsoft on the problem via emails....they went through a number of trouble shooting techniques....but after all of their recommendations, all they could tell me was to reinstall Windows 7.

I really would not like to do that. Do you have any idea what the problem is?

I've got an 8-year-old Sony Vaio laptop (Intel 1.86Ghz; 2 GB RAM) that's running Vista SP2. I don't use it very often these days as I use Mac OS both at home and at work now.

However, I've recently had to do some work in Serif Page Plus and I've been using the laptop again. I updated MBAM and installed Kaspersky on it for AV protection (I used MSE in the past but had a spare licence for Kaspersky Total Security and decided to make use of it.)

I've been trying to update Vista. It usually just shows 'Checking for Updates' but doesn't do anything. This morning it did report in the taskbar that it had downloaded updates up to 50%, but when I clicked on the 'New Updates Available' message in the taskbar, it just went back to 'Checking for Updates'. It's been 4–5 hours and nothing has changed. According to the list of updates, the last install was in 2011. That sounds about right, as that's probably the last time I used the laptop.

As far as I'm aware (sorry – I'm really out of practice with Windows these days!) it's not possible to manually download updates via Internet Explorer like it was with XP?

Any help on this would be much appreciated. I'd really like to get it updated so that it is as secure as it can be while online.

ETA: Sorry. In my haste to post this while working I've just realised there's a topic a little way down the page about the same issue. I'll read through it and report back.

Hi, I recently formatted my Dell Inspiron Duo netbook, with Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. I installed all of the software which I run on it without any problems.

When I try to update Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus (32bit) Windows Update only finds a few updates, and after they're installed it doesn't find anymore updates. It doesn't even find Office 2010 SP1.

{Note: I had no problems with other updates like Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 or other Microsoft updates.

I tried uninstalling Office 2010 and installing it again but nothing changed. The privacy settings which show up the first time you run an Office application I set it as "Recommended settings".

I also tried downloading Office 2010 SP1 (32bit) and when I tried to run it an error came up saying something like version mismatch (I presume that you need to install other updates before running the setup & I also tried to download an other update but the same error came up.)

I didn't have this problem before I formatted the computer.}

I hope I gave a detailed description of my issue, and thanks.

I've only recently realised that my Windows 7 computer will not allow Windows Update to basically, run.

The last time it successfully ran was late August and every attempt since fails with Error No: 80096001

I cannot even run the SURT tool as requested by the Windows Update posting Instructions thread. Same error number in fact.

I have run the sfcscan as directed, and the logs are attached.

Once again, I look forward to some nice lady or gent offering help with thanks in advance.

today i downloaded & installed the NeT recommended update (restarted computer) and i think it was after that was completed that i tried to view the link for 'history of updates' -without success.
I read ''FAQ'' and did what i wrote above ... HELP! thanks - Edythe

After searching through multiple forums and trying to download windows utility cleaner, etc - nothing has helped. Also, if I try to run the 'Check for Updates" link on my computer - if NEVER stops searching for updates and there for I cant update anything. Not sure where to start

Let's start with the easy stuff

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Suddenly Windows 7 has stopped installing Windows Updates. It downloads, then creates restore point, starts installation, but then comes back with the error code 800F0900. This happens with all the updates when carried out individually, critical or optional. I first went through the process of clearing all the Start-up Programs in the Services section of msconfig. As that did not solve it I then stopped all but MS services, and that did not solve it.  I tried the Microsoft .NET Setup Verification Tool. This said there were problems that it could not fix and sent a report to Microsoft.  Following an earlier thread on this site, I installed and used the Windows Repair program from Tweeking.com. This failed to solve the problem. Does any one have any other possible advice to help solve this problem ?

A:Windows Updates will not install. Error code 800F0900 for all updates.

I would try running the System Update Readiness Tool:  http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20858 .

I'm wondering:

1. Are the updates for MS Office that are critical security things included when you do Windows Update? (For example, there are a number of things listed here towards the bottom: http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=2232 -- would those have been included in the last batch of critical Windows updates?

2. Do you need the GDI+ thing to do Office Updates?

3. When you go to the Office Updates site, it wants you to install and run some kind of Active X thing. Is this necessary? And can it cause any problems?

4. Can doing critical Office updates (separate from whatever, if anything, that comes with Windows Update) cause any problems or conflicts with other things on your computer?

Thanks for the help!

1. No. You either do Windows update and Office update, or you do Microsoft update, which does both at once.

Hi bro,I had the same problem 3 days ago and I have solved the problem so, I think, I can help you, first of all I need to know if you have any antivirus tool intalled on your computer,if it so,[download CLEANER sofware from filehippo.com-it's important]uninstall them, for this action use safe mode by pressing F8 button, when you boot with safe mod you will not be able to uninstall your antivirus, because you have loaded only the drivers that needs safe mod, that's why you must delete your antivirus manually, for best result go to control panel-->folder options-->mark "show hidden files, folders, archives" apply and ok then go to user folder and open AppData\Local\"antivirus folder" and delete it,after this open AppData\Roaming\"antivirus folder" and delete it as well,at the end,you have to delete the main folder of your antivirus, that is installed on C or another drive.for example:C:\Program Files\ESET.After that open cleaner go to REGISTRY and scan for issues and if you get[I am sure you will get errors] any problem, fix them[delete them, you don't need to save registry settings before deleting] after cleaning registry, you have to run cleaner,so, go to software main window and press RUN CLEANER button[it's the last step] and restart your computer with normal mode. Now you can install updates and configure your windows safely.I hope this will help you

I don't have that detection tool either. At least some of the office updates are available through the windows update feature. You can also navigate to the Office updates site from the windows update site. There are no problems with installing the office updates separately. In fact, I generally download only 1 or 2 updates at a time as I am on dial-up.

This is an inconvenient delay, not anything serious. Running Windows 7, if it makes a difference.

Issue: Microsoft Security Essentials auto-updates block Microsoft Updates until MSE is finished.

Description: I have Microsoft Update (or Windows Update, whichever it's known as in 7) set to automatically check for updates but not download or install without my approval. I do this so I can review what's being updated, (I'm a little wary of Microsoft putting an anti-piracy app in as a "critical" update in the last year or two). Anyways, when I boot up the computer, it checks for updates and alerts me of them.

However, Microsoft Security Essentials also auto-checks for updates upon boot, and if it has an update it will automatically being downloading and installing it in the background. Which is all well and good, except whenever that's happening it causes MU to "fail" updates until it's done updating. Thus, I have to remember to wait until the MSE update is done, then run the MU update.

Question: MSE definition updates are included under "Optional" updates in MU, is there a way to make MSE stop updating independent of MU so I can queue all the updates together? I feel like this would be the easiest way to prevent this annoyance. I don't see an option, and I'd rather put up with this annoyance if the only solution is to put all updates back into Microsoft's hands completely.

A:Microsoft Security Essentials updates blocking other windows updates

My understanding of MSE is it will check several times during the to make it has the latest updates. Most GOOD VA programs will do this as there are several releases daily for AV definitions. This is the only way you and your machine will be aware of these releases.

When some of these attacks happen, a definition is released, but as the infection is refined, the the definition must also be refined and/or improved. I use F-Prot on my machines, but I install MSE on the kids and grand kids machines. I have seen as many as 12 releases in one day from F-Prot, this is what is call" being on top of things".

So I would not want to rely on ME being the one to check several times daily on all of my machines to see if a new release has been made.

I am using Office 2013 Pro & it does not show updates in the normal Windows Update section on my computer. I have to refer to any Office application, select File & then Accounts to see that I have automatic updates selected & the update number, but it does not tell me if it is the latest update, so I have to check to see that it is the latest, which it is apparently.
I would like to be able to see which Office updates are available & to install them as I do with the usual Windows Updates. Can anyone suggest a solution please.

A:How do I get Office 2013 updates to show in Windows Updates.

Just a random thought. Does your computer have the "Click-to-Run" version of Office installed? Updates for the C2R version do not appear in Windows Update or WSUS. Updates are downloaded in the background automatically (whether you want them to or not).

You can identify C2R by looking under the File tab. There will be a button that shows update options (on or off) and the version number. Another way to identify C2R is in Window's Programs & Features. With C2R, you no longer have the ability to add or delete Office applications.

Until the October 2014 updates I would always receive a sytray notice of which updates had been installed. To clarify, after new Windows Updates were installed and with or without a reboot of the system, I would receive a systray notification that new updates had been installed and upon clicking that notification a window would open and show the updates that had been installed and success or failure status.

I no longer receive that notification. This was true for the October and November patch Tuesday updates. I can open Windows Update and select View Update History and see that the updates were installed but the systray notification only showed the latest installation history and was more convenient that having to open Windows Update to view the update history.

Anyone have any idea as to what caused the systray notification to stop working after updates were installed? OS is Win 7 Home Premium SP 1.

TIA for any replies.

I have a Dell XPS 15 Z laptop with 6 GB of RAM, 4 x 2.53 GHz processors and 500 GB hard drive which is only about half full. The operating system is Windows 7 Pro/ 64. All updates are current. I have Kaspersky anti-virus, malware bytes, & spybot search and destroy. All of which say the computer is clean.
I have repeatedly successfully installed 2 Windows updates:

Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2836939)

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008, Server 2008 R2 for x64 (KB2858302)

Then, within a a few minutes I am notified that 2 new updates are available... The same ones. Just to make sure the update were truly successful, I have reinstalled them several times with the same result.

Occasionally there are other Windows updates included along with my two familiar ones. The others install fine and I never hear anything more about them. But the two above will soon come back as new updates available.

Though I can certainly ignore responding to these update notifications, it would be kind and nice to get it fixed.

Thanks Larry

Had automatic updates yesterday and these 2 failed? KB954430 and KB973688 had error code 643.
Looked online with the update and error code and found the solution given below on the Microsoft website.
Ran the stand alone install for both KB954430 and KB973688 and got the following error:
Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable.
Ran your automatically reset Windows Update components program and came back with the following error:
Troubleshooting was unable to fix all of the issues found. You can find more details below.
Windows update error 0x8007005(2015-05-29-T-12_18_15A) Not Fixed
Problems installing recent values Not Fixed
Service registration is missing or corrupt Fixed

At that point I figured I would stop until I was able to talk to people who have a lot more knowledge on this than me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, it seems like I get no more updates offered when I search for updates. My latest important updates are from 05.10.13. Since then I only get the same 42 optional updates shown. Shouldn't there be a few new ones (important and optional ones) since one month? Yesterday I read about the new IE11, that didn't show up either. Is there a website with a history of all released updates so I can check if there are any updates released/available that I didn't get offered in the last month?

A:No new Windows updates shown when 'search for updates' - Problem?

IE 11 isn't being offered through Windows Updates yet, except in certain areas.
The latest Important Updates should have been installed around 8th October
What happens if you attempt to install any of the optional updates?
There is no formal list of updates, since the list may vary from machine to machine - however, the listing in the forum stick here is kept pretty much up-to-date.

how do I check for driver updates on my PC

Hi guys,

The Canon MX410 drivers keep on appearing even after successful install.

Here are my optional updates before installation:

Windows notifies of successful install:

However, when I check for updates again after...

...and it is back. Several attempts led to same results.

I also tried downloading the drivers from the official Canon PIXMA MX410 page and installing it (in hopes of "overriding" the Windows Updates), to which it notified as well of a successful install.

But upon running Windows Updates, the driver download is still there. Any suggestions?

Hey wondering on what the best method is for adding missing drivers and Windows 7 Pro updates. This used Laptop came with a fresh install of 7 Pro without any driver or Windows updates. Is the best solution to start off with drivers, or to install windows updates first ?

Also do I let windows try to find the drivers for me ? Or is it better another way ?

Anything I have to look out for? I hope its easy as it sounds. Normally my computers in the past have Factory Settings which include a fresh install with original drivers. I'm sorta new to this type of fix. I only installed graphic drivers in past from scratch.

Any help much appreciated, Thanks in advance...

A:Windows 7 driver and updates missing

I would do Windows Updates first and then do manufacturer driver updates after. That way it will prompt you if the manufacturer driver is newer/older.

Hi,
I have a Dell Inspiron 5348 which came with Windows 8.1 and I fully updated before upgrading to Windows 10.
Now when I try to look for any Driver updates it detects my service tag and express code but thinks I'm still on Windows 8.1.
I click Detect Drivers and download the Dell System Detect exe, open that and the page gets stuck in a endless loop reloading while trying to see what drivers my computer needs.
I stopped it and looked at the option: Need help finding drivers compatible with Windows 10? Let us help
and the page was blank.
Maybe it wasn't such a good idea going to Windows 10 - or is there some way to fix the problem?
Cheers, Paul

Those are basically the 3 drivers that i update including security updates. By using wushowhide, i can see the drivers updates that have been block such as intel pci serial port root, watchtimer and lpc controller and etc. Does it improve performance or should i leave it alone? What does updating those driver do?

A:Windows Update Driver Updates

I can only speak for myself, others may have different views. I recently had a number of problems related to Windows 10 Updates [including drivers].

For the present my policy is to go directly to the relevant manufacturer for driver updates. A review over a number of forums, Intel in particular reveals Intel and Microsoft apparently unable to resolve problems caused by updates. I'll stick with Intel for the moment.

Hello,

I have been having issues with wireless module not showing available networks on this laptop recently. I have had to reboot to get the wireless networks to show up. I checked the Dell site the other day and installed an updated driver for the wireless adapter, as well as the video card, sound card, and chipset. I have had 2 blue screens since updating these drivers (today and Tuesday). One other new item is Kaspersky internet security, which was installed earlier in the week. I have attached the information for review- please let me know if any additional information is needed. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Hello,

I've been trying for over a week to get a stable OS installed, and have come to a dead end.

The PC in question is a Compaq Presario P8656U (2.5 GB with 1G RAM), and the software is its original factory-installed Windows XP Home version with SP1. The original software contained only SP1, but I pulled it off and slipstreamed XP2 into it before burning it onto a bootable CD, so XP2 is the version we're talking about now.

The software loads properly, the only glitch being that after the OS is installed and the PC Restarts, the program loads but hangs up on the final (black with Windows logo) screen with the little "PLEASE WAIT..." prompt. There's no way to get out of it except to physically remove power from the PC. After that, the computer always boots up smoothly.

The REAL problem I'm having, is that after turning on Windows Automatic Updates (as my Norton software requires), I get not only the three critical updates (which I believe are KB892130, KB893803v2, and KB898461), but about SEVENTY-NINE (79) other updates which I don't really want cluttering up my drive anyway.

I have reformatted my HD and reinstalled XP about TEN (10) times now, and without fail, every time I perform an install of the 79 new Windows Updates, my Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Extreme Graphics driver is either removed or so badly corrupted that I can't find it in the drivers folder anymore. They may also be causing problems that I haven't identified ye... Read more

- Microsoft Fixit

- sfc /scannow (3 times - "has found corrupt files but couldn't fix all of them")

My folks PC has Windows 7 and since it has been working perfectly they chose NOT to install SP1 until absolutely required.

This past Tuesday their computer received none of the normal security updates or patches. It did strangely receive the May 2013 Malicious Software Removal Tool but that was it.

What I want to know is it OK to manually download the latest security updates (for May 2013) and will the OS recognize them without a problem and if I do this would it conflict with when I actually install SP1 at a later date.

Any experts please chime in. Thanks.

I recommend installing Service Pack 1 first before you install the security updates . Windows requires the SP to get the recent security updates .

I have had a problem with updates failing for a couple months. I have worked with both HP and Microsoft's Vista support teams to no avail. i have tried five or six different methods at the request of the HP and MS support teams to overcome this problem.

i consistently get messages that "Host Proces for Windows Services stopped working and was closed" and that windows will notify me if a solution is available.

the updates generate an error WindowsUpdate_800706BA.

Windows Update does not work, Windows Media Center updates do not work, and now the HP Printer updates no longer work. I'm kind of hanging open here without any of the security patches, OS fixes, and other updates.

I have a Windows 7 Enterprise x64 virtual machine that I use as a template in my vSphere environment that I keep up to date with all Windows updates. This VM only contains Windows 7 in its disk.
Last time I was able to fully patch this machine was back in May 2016; a few nights ago I tried to update Windows 7 updates and it's stuck at Checking for updates... (I let it sat there for 12 hours)
I read several blogs on resetting Windows Updates services (stopping BITS and Windows Services then deleting all files in Windows\SoftwareDistribution) and none of them seem to work. I also ran a Windows Update troubleshooting tool that is supposed to Fix
problems with Windows Updates - didn't work either as it tries to get updates from the internet.
Next, I decided to create a brand new Windows 7 machine, and tried to run Windows Updates...nothing, still gets hung up at Checking for updates...
Anyone has any ideas on how to fix Windows Updates so I can get updates? It seems that something changed recently that broke it. Windows 10 patching seems to work just fine as I've had no issues with my Windows 10 machines.
Thanks!

So I successfully installed a total of 20 Windows updates for my Windows 7 x64 installation on Tuesday 11, 2014. I think 18 of them were "important" and 2 were "recommended" for x64 systems.

Now I have received four additional update notifications through Windows Update, one at a time. I installed the first without giving it much thought, after which I was asked to reboot. Everything seemed fine after reboot until I tried my Firefox browser, it looked all wrong and I could no longer read any of the menu headings. It was essentially non-functional. Then I tried Internet Explorer 11. It simply failed with an error window indicating that it could not start and it was checking for a solution to the problem.

So then I tried to uninstall the update, and I receive a message that an error occurred and the un-installation was unsuccessful. So then I restored Windows from an image file I had just made, and all was well again of course.

When this update came back through Windows Update, I researched it a bit and was surprised to find that it was from 2012. Now it is possible that I missed an important or recommended update, but I know I've checked Windows Update numerous times between 2012 and now, and this never showed up before. I also doubt that I missed an important or recommended update since they are selected by default, and I don't deviate from that. But I didn't verify since I couldn't find an easy way to search the 100+ updates installed on my m... Read more

I ignore the pop-up window from the notifications area telling me Windows updates are ready to install, I'm busy. Then I'm ready to do it, but there's no icon in the notification area to click to do the install.

I've even gone as far as to do a manual install, just to make sure I've got the latest update. I know I'm fully updated, and then the pop-up window comes up telling me it has that update ready to install again!

Is there a way to retrieve the updates Automatic Updates has ready to install? Reboot?!

Will manually updating confuse Automatic Updates?

A:Windows Update Sufficient for Driver Updates?

Windows Update can provide driver updates if set up to do so. Driver update software is generally a waste of time and money, since they invariably charge you for drivers which you can get for free from the hardware manufacturer's website. In addition, these are often a couple or so releases behind, so I recommend just downloading them directly from the manufacturer.

I recently made a new fresh install of Vista Ultimate 64 bit. I was using it already, but had to format and reinstall, so everything is new and clean.

I have noticed something strange in windows update: optional driver updates for some devices (such as my monitor or the realtek network adapter) are no longer available and they are not showing in the available optional updates list. They seem to work ok but they are displayed in device manager using the generic microsoft drivers.

For example, whenever a new network adapter driver was available, I used to receive a windows update notification telling me that new Realtek drivers were available. Now they are not showing anymore.

Settings for Windows update are "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" and "include recommended updates" is ticked.

A:Driver updates not showing in Windows Update

Did you install SP1? It is possible that the updated SP1 files are more recent than the previously shown drivers in WU.

Also, I have noticed that WU never includes the most recent driver available for a system, just usually an older one that is fully compatible with your OS - I noticed this time and time again with nVidia drivers, for example, WU wants to install 169.25, whereas the newest driver version is actually 170.16....

Hen in doubt, I go with the latest drivers from the hardware manufacturer's site as opposed ot Windows Update.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E550 running Windows 10 having been updated automatically from Windows 7 Pro 64-bit (initial and anniversary).  I cannot get Skype to use the integrated webcam. That is not the issue. Discussions of that said to make sure the video drivers were up-to-date. There have been no non-automatic updates of Lenovo software since its purchase in early 2015. I used Lenovo's utility to identify the system as 20DFCTO1WW. Just about everything looks out of date, so much so I wonder if I am looking at the drivers for the right system though it agrees with the solution center's showing of model and serial number. I am familiar with computers, byut I am not familiar with how Lenovo does things. Multiple questions: 1) The current drivers for the integrated camera are RealTek 6.2.9200.10282 (7/11/2014), but the Lenovo site shows version 6.5.717 (6/19/2016 for Liteon) and Version 10.0.10240.11135 (Bison/Chicony). Is this the same device.2) Is there a suggested sequence for applying multiple updates?3) The Lenovo page has an option "Let Lenovo update your system". Is this safe? Thanks

Hi there,

I saw a simliar older thread to this topic. But I thought maybe it also has something to do with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update which was not out back then.

So what I have done so far is in my Hyper-V deployment VM turn off the Driver Updates in Windows Update according to Driver Updates in Windows Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 option one. Which we can see here:

I also did the thingy on system -> Adv. Settings -> Hardware. But it seams different on Windows 10 Anniversary Update as you see here (sorry for the german):

But if I take this perfect image put it on my Workstation Notebook. First time Windows Update runs it downloads all the drivers... That's not really the point of doing that... And especially if you have some special hardware...

What would happen if I disable Windows Update -> Install the drivers myself -> Enable Windows Update? Would It overwrite my drivers?

Thanks for your help

Cheers,
Yves
