I bought a new beefy tower pc with a AMD Athlon duo core 3 ghz cpu and a 512mb 9600gt nVidia graphics card and 4 gb ram. 500gb hdd.

When I picked up, it was demonstrated to me by the seller who showe it to me on one their old crt monitors in their factory. I did not buy a new monitor, I did not think it necessary when my old one, a flat lcd 19in was still in working order. By the way , it worked with my old pc and I put my lap top to it and it was fine. I used the chord at the back to hook my laptop to my lcd tv and it was fine SO....Monitor is ok and connection is ok......what happens when you boot the fine new pc up is nothing. The monitor light remains amber. I pressed one of the buttons on the monitor and it came up with a message that is was in sleep mode and to move mouse or touch keyboard. I moved mouse and nothing happened.

The pc is brand new *wah**wah* I cant take it back until after 9th of Jan '09 when the place opens again after the holiday break, but I would like to use this new pc.... What can I do??? Please help me....

Either you have your monitor connected to the motherboard video and the BIOS is set to output to the video card, or you have your monitor connected to the video card and haven't installed drivers for it or switched video modes in the BIOS.

(crossposted from Graphics Cards here: Windows 8 - Getting my second Dell Monitor to work)

Hi. I have a HP dv7-4260ca with switchable graphics. The graphics cards are the AMD 4200series and the AMD 6550M.

My problem is, the Dell monitor always mirrors what my laptop is showing. Even when I set my screens to extend, they are always the same. It worked fine in Windows 7. I did the upgrade install, but the problem was there, so then I did the clean install, wiping everything, but the problem was still there within a minute of booting into Windows.

Another thing is, my laptop thinks it is connected to three monitors, when it's actually only connected to two, the laptop screen, and the Dell monitor.
The monitors are as follows:
1. Other (my laptop screen, recommended resolution 1024*768)
2. Mobile PC Display (the ghost monitor that I can never see or remove)
3. Generic Non-PnP Monitor (My Dell monitor that mirrors my laptop no matter what)

Even when I set my Dell monitor to extend from my main laptop monitor, it still shows what my laptop shows. Here's a screenshot of the settings I used for that:

When I press Win+P and select PC Screen Only, both the laptop and the monitor are blank.
When I press Win+P and select Duplicate, the monitor mirrors the laptop, and my mouse can move off to the right of the screen, as if there were another monitor there. These are the settings that selecting duplicate sets: http://puu.s... Read more

Hi, I have a Dell GX 260 pc. It has always worked fine, but has a tiny harddrive. With all the updates and the software I need the harddrive was becoming too full. I put a bigger harddrive in, but when I switched the computer on to put the new operating system on, the monitor (which has always worked) seems not to receive the signal. The light just stays orange. The computer is making all the right noises. I put the original harddrive back in, but still the monitor wont work. The monitor is a flat screen one which is alot newer than the pc. Any ideas on how to resolve this? It was working fine before.

A:Dell monitor wont work

check the cables internally and that you have not knocked anything by mistake as you added the harddrive

Also when you put the VGA cable back onto the PC - check to see if any pins are bent - very easy to bend a pin on those connectors and still connect and screw up

Wife bought an emachine ET1641. After setting it up I could not get the Dell flat screen monitor to come out of "Power Save" mode. I hooked it up to my Dell laptop and it came on. Is their any tweaking I can do or is the Dell monitor proprietary with Dell pc?

A:Dell monitor won't work w/emachine

The brand does not matter. The only thing that matter's is the connection (I assume the port on the emachines computer and the dell monitor are both VGA). A good test would be for you to plug in another monitor in to your emachines and see if it comes on.

How did you 'set up' the computer without a monitor?

I invested a couple of bucks in a used Dell monitor at a garage sale. I did not expect much but I figured WTH, it was worth a try.

A 17" flat screen Model172FP, on power on, the screen gives a display for a few seconds then goes black.

Self test on power on - no connection to computer:
Feature Check' dialog box appear on-screen (against a black background) for a few seconds then screen goes black.

Connected to computer with computer powered up.

Computer brand flash screen appears for a few seconds then screen goes black. I tried this on both an HP and a Compaq computer. Their respective logos appeared for only a few seconds then nothing.

Think this display is worth more investigation or is it ready for deep six ?

We're encountering scrolling issues with Excel 2013 (and 2016).
What we mean by that is graphic distortions (blocks of black) appearing on the worksheet during the scroll action.
It happens almost exclusively on the externally attached monitor.
Even after the scrolling action is finished the blocks of blacks will persist and will obscure the data in the cells. Generally only opening the worksheet anew will correct the issue (until scrolling is once again initiated)
This is on a new Dell XPS 15 (9550) running Windows 10.The monitor is a Dell U2717D connected via the HDMI.
We've done quite a bit of troubleshooting but before describing in detail we wanted to know if anybody had seen something similar?

I am picking up the XPS 15 this week and currently have two P2815Q monitors I am using with the Microsoft Surface Book.  Currently these are connected to the Surface Book via a single mini-display port cable with the 2rd 4K connected to the first via mini-display port.
So my question is how do I connect these monitors to the XPS 15.  I understand the XPS has Thunderbolt and a single HDMI 1.4 port.  While HDMI 1.4 is not capable of driving 4K at 60hz, I'm also wondering what the new Dell Dock is going to bring to the game here.
Would love some help, so thanks in advance.

Hi, I can't seem to get anything higher than 1920x1080 in the list of available resolution options when I connect my Dell U2713HM monitor to my Dell Inspiron 15 laptop. I've run this monitor at 2560x1440 on another laptop over HDMI in the past but that was with Windows 8. The Intel HD Graphics 530 Control Panel doesn't offer any resolutions above 1920x1080 for the external monitor and adding custom resolutions results in the error "the custom resolution exceeds the maximum bandwidth capacity". I'm using the same high speed HDMI cable that worked at 2560x1440 with this monitor on my previous laptop. I'm fully up to date on all of the drivers for the laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not sure what else to try. Could this be a Windows 10 issue? Should I try the standard Intel HD Graphics 530 drivers from the Intel website?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 7559 connected to Dell U2713HM monitor over HDMI can't do 2560x1440 resolution in Windows 10

Hi JonoBloo,
The hardware on the system supports the 2560x1440. It should be a software issue. I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the video card driver from Dell website as these drivers are tested on the Dell system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the video card.

Press the Windows key and Start typing devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
Select the Display adapters listed and right click on it.
Now select properties.
In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
You want to delete the driver click OK.

After the uninstall finishes restart the system. Then reinstall the Intel video card driver for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the video card drivers from Video section onto the system and install it.
Please let me know if this helps.

I'm struggling to attach the soundbar to the computer. There are two cables in the box. On the picture it shows the short cable attached to the soundbar that slots into the monitor. Is the extension cable supposed to attach to the short extension cable attached to the soundbar or is that supposed to go in a separate slot. On the diagram in the instructions it looks like both cables need to be plugged in.
This might seem like a stupid question but it isn't clear in the instructions.

A:Attaching Dell USB Soundbar (AC511) to a Dell U2515H monitor

Hi totleygirl,
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
You will have to connect the USB Extension Cable to the computer USB port and the other end to the soundbar cable.

Please reply if you have any further questions.

I want to switch between 2 laptops onto a DELL E178FPc Monitor (which is VGA input only).  The Laptops are a DELL E6410 -VGA out only, running Win7    and  a DELL Inspiron 5000 series machine -HDMI output, running Win10.
I have tried to achieve this using a KVM switch (the ATEN CS22U, non-powered). It claims to be Win7 compliant.
When I connect it to the E6410's VGA port and then in to the Monitor it says 'no signal detected'. Subsequent research would suggest that even if I were to somehow get a display through the KVM switch it will be lost as soon as you switch to the other laptop (!).
I have come to believe through research on the web that the E6410 Laptop will only work with a VGA monitor being directly connected to its port, or an alternative (powered) KVM Switch with so called Active-DDC (whatever that is!) may also work.
Needless to say I have exhausted my tech knowledge on this one.
Can anyone offer further advice or recommend a solution?

Would Dell Factory restore DVDS work after Dell replaced the motherboard? I haven't tried it because I have the dell re-installation disk, just wondered if I ever need to get rid of this computer. With dell's the key is intergrated with the os. If they replaced with same motherboard then I do not see why it wouldn't.

I am plugging a HDMI cable into the HDMI port on a Dell E5440 laptop and the other end of the cable, which is Display Port, into a Dell P1914S monitor.
Nothing shows on the external monitor no matter what I do or try on either the laptop or monitor?  I have tried this on a Dell E7000 series laptop also with no result on that one either?
Does the HDMI port on Dell laptops support video or do I need to utilise some other means of connecting a second monitor.  Bear in mind there is no VGA output on these laptops.

Display port is NOT bidirectional. You can go from DISPLAY PORT OUT to HDMI IN but you CANNOT GO HDMI OUT to DIsplay port in.
I would suggest an HDMI to VGA adapter.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.  Recently, I bought a Dell Ultrasharp monitor U2412M to attach to my laptop to have an ergonomic home office.   My knowledge of computers/hardware is pretty... rudimentary.
24"1920 x 1200Nice adjustable stand1x DVI-D port, 1x display port, 1x VGA port, 1x USB 2.0 upstream port, 4x USB downstream ports
I use my computer for writing documents, internet surfing, and rarely for watching tv.  Eventually, I will buy a lighter and newer laptop, but probably not for a year or two.
I think I bought the wrong monitor....  I was hoping to buy something to use now, that will last, and that will work with any future laptop I buy.
My monitor just arrived.  I connected it to my laptop with the VGA cable (my laptop doesn't have DPI or HDMI input).  It worked, but the picture didn't look.... very good.
It is my understanding that VGA connections are the worst quality.  Can I use an ?adapter to connect to the VGA cable to access the DVI-D port on the monitor?  Or is this the best I can get?  I'm not even sure what ?video cards are, or whether I need one of these.
I also looked up the specs on my old laptop and it says the specs of my laptop screen are
1366 x 768 pixel
So is this the limit of what an attached monitor can be?

Any input appreciated.  Thanks.

Would any of you please tell me where to find the proper 64-bit drivers to use on a Dell Inspiron 531S?

The official Dell website does not share drivers for that edition of XP. My computer came with Ubuntu pre-installed. Please help me get the right drivers XP Pro (64-bit).

The only reason why I'm searching for 64-bit drivers for XP is because I have no interest in using Windows Vista or any 32-bit operating systems from Microsoft. Like I mentioned before, the Dell website is not offering the proper drivers I need for this computer and the Windows XP (64-bit).

I've read articles about getting 64-bit drivers to work on that computer, but I haven't found any website that offers the same drivers. I'm basically on my own, according to this Dell expert (see below). That person told me about the drivers without sharing 1 single link to download the 64-bit drivers (or chipset) for XP, which he/she mentioned:
Dell does not support 64 bit in that model and the reason there are no drivers. You are basically "on your own" to try and find suitable drivers.

However, if you installed the Chipset drivers, Windows should either install a generic driver or find suitable drivers.

The correct install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install chipset driver (3) Install Device Drivers.

On Intel systems the chipset drivers define what is on or attached to the motherboard. I assume the AMD drivers do the same thing.Click to expand...

A:Dell site won't help me. How do you get XP Pro (64bit) to work on Dell 531S?

Hi there

The very best database for drivers is . You need to create a free account to gain access.

What the tech suggested was installing enough drivers to get your networking to work and then letting Windows find all the missing drivers automatically using the now working internet by selecting the option "search for drivers automatically" when installing the devices through the add/remove hardware applet in the Control Panel.

My HP computer crashed and I bought a used Dell Optiplex GX620 Pentium D 3.00GHz. I tried to connect my HP monitor (vs15c LCD), and it doesn't recognize it. Do I have to get a Dell cord in order for it to work or is it something else? Since I can't use the monitor, I have no idea if the dell computer even works, just that it powers on. (I do know my monitor is working fine.)

Any suggestions?

A:Dell computer not recognizing HP monitor

Hi Hehoward, and welcome to TSG.

1) Do the computer's diagnostic lights show a normal boot up of the motherboard?

2) When you say you know the monitor is working fine, do you mean that the same monitor and same VGA cord work OK on another computer?

3) If the answer to the first two questions is "Yes", with the monitor connected and turned on, try turning on the computer and tapping the F8 function key right away. This should display a low resolution Windows start selection. If you do get a display of the menu, then choose Safe Mode.

You should then be able to try different higher resolutions to see if one works on your display.

So eagerly i tought to buy this cool looking laptop for a huge $2000 i needed it to output to a hdmi monitor ot TV so sometimes i could see movies as well, now i had to buy the special DA200 dell adaptor and in the past 3 weeks it`s been a complete nightmare, i WAS NEVER ABLE to make it work permanently. The chat support was no help at all usually simply resuming to try and replace the part but i do think the part is good and i didn't feel like waiting 2 weeks for it to ship from china.

The ethernet and usb work on the DA200 adaptor , EXCEPT HDMI.  SOMETIMES it would work briefly until next restart, i had tried everything ever available on the internet. The laptop is running Windows 10 (as it`s restricted to that version, i tried to install other versions with lots of issues and compatibility issues) so  i have installed reinstalled and installed different versions of the video driver for all possible windowses and none worked. what did work was very brief until next restart and that usually happened when i had a fresh windows install, after the first restart i will get a non working hdmi again.

I have tried several hdmi cables so i know it`s not the hdmi cable or the tv ot the monitor. and nobody seems to be able to help!!

Help! I had to ditch my old Dell Dimension computer thanks to a security breach on my hard drive that Trend Micro could not clear off. I had purchased a Gateway computer several months earlier for MAME gaming which wasn't being used, so decided to replace the Dell with the Gateway. I have a Dell E196FP flat panel monitor. The Gateway is a GT4016 Media Center Edition 2005, running Windows XP.

Ever since I connected the Dell Monitor to the Gateway computer, all internet windows are frustrating to view. Type fonts are too small, on most screens, the information does not fill up the window. It's usually all pushed over to one side (left, top, centered).

I've tried updating the driver for the monitor as well as the Display Adapters driver. That hasn't worked. I have set the screen resolution to the highest settings. That didn't work either. I can increase the type size in my browser while viewing a page, but all it does is make the type bigger and the problem of the page being pushed off to one side remains. It also doesn't save the bigger type for the next time I am in that browser.

Not sure what else to do. Any ideas????

Hi there,
Today my computer went from completely normal to outlining everything in red and sometimes blue. I've attached a photo that I took of my monitor screen with my digital camera. I photographed a black and white youtube video shot and got the squiggly lines in color. This doesn't just happen in Explorer, it happens throughout all facets of the computer (desktop, photos on my computer, everywhere on the computer).
A friend said hers just started doing the same and that she removed the recently installed silverlight and it resolved hers. I did the same and it did nothing for me.
I am wondering what is wrong and how I can fix it.
I am going to bring the monitor to a friends and hook it up to her computer tomorrow to see if it is the monitor. I am asking this question in case it is not the monitor and I have to dig deeper.
It is a 22" Dell LCD monitor, and is 2 years old. It came in a full package of hard drive, monitor and accessories.
Any help would be appreciated!

A:Red and blue squiggly lines on my Dell computer monitor

The image is typical of a failed or corrupted video graphics driver, or a failed video grpahics card.

If you are connected to the video graphics socket on a motherboard, I would download the latest drivers from the Dell SUPPORT site, then when you know where you can find it on your computer, remove or disable the old video graphics driver and install the new download...
If that does not work, come back and tell us a lot more about the Dell model and configuration.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with Windows Vista OS. I have a Dell 926 printer interfaced to it via USB. Printer driver is installed and the printer does communicate at times with the computer and does a good job printing. However, intermittently when trying to print a document I'll get a message on the computer that says that communication has been lost and print job failed.

I've checked all connections to make sure they are solid and no debris that might cause this.
That has not corrected the problem.
The other thing that happens is that the document I want to print will stay in the print queue/spooler and if I shut the computer and printer down and restart both it will print the job. And it may continue to print jobs but it's just a matter of time.

Needless to say this is frustrating. I can print several jobs in a row with no problem and then I'll get this "communication has been lost between printer and computer". And I have to go thru the procedure above to get the last job printed.

My wife doesn't understand how this works and will try to print the same job several times with the commo problem and then complains when it won't print.....and then they all print when the above procedure is followed.

Any ideas what is going on??? Any fixes??

The short version of my question is exactly what the topic says-- Can I install a Dell-provided OEM version of Vista on a non-Dell computer?

But, here's the wordier version giving context, if anyone's interested.

About 10 months ago, I guess, I got a Dell Vostro that came with Windows Vista Home Basic. However, I had no interest in Vista (because I already had a Windows machine) and the very first thing I did was install Ubuntu on it. I still have the Vista reinstall disk, though, which, to my memory, hasn't been used.

Now I'm planning on getting a barebones system and upgrading what I see fit. For the time being, I'm going to use the Windows 7 RC, but I'd like to get the uber-great upgrade deal that they're having to pre-order either the Business or Home Premium version upgrade. So, to do that, I'd need an XP installation or a Vista installation. Is there any reason, legal or software-related, that I wouldn't be able to install Vista using that disk that came with the Vostro?

I heard somewhere that sometimes if you try, it'll say something like "This is not a Dell computer, you evil, evil person" and refuse to install, so I wanted to make sure before I pre-ordered the upgrade. I don't want to get the upgrade and have nothing to upgrade, of course.

So over the past 2-3 weeks I kept noticing that my battery kept dying even though I would shut it down (yes window > shutdown) the computer with a full battery. The next evening I would power up and see that the battery was at 20% from full charge. This is a BRAND NEW as in <2 months XPS 9550. I checked my event log and WHAT THE H@#$??? It is absolutely filled with Dell Foundation Service and Dell Product Registration events all saying  " Power event Handled Successfully by the service." Clearly it is not.. The stupid things run every 10 seconds. So when I think I am powering down my computer, it is being blocked by these services and actually just going to sleep... but it actually isn't sleeping. Its waking up every 10 seconds. Can anyone PLEASE help me determine the issue. Apparently according to update service everything is up to date.

Two months ago bought a Dell 8900 from Best Buy. After 20 days, it would not start, same with the next 8900 replacement... only fewer days. The first gameware as a replacement did not start at all. The Alienware Aurora worked beautifully for 3 days and then would not start. In the 8900's,,, got the blinking amber lights on the start button. Tech is coming to replace motherboard. What the heck is happening? Could it be the monitor... or the external hard drive or what? Come on Dell,,, what's up? I have a Dell XP Laptop as a back up using the same external hard ddrive.

Was given a Dell Optiplex 360 that I found out after getting a nasty virus had a bootleg XP OS
I also did not have any disks with it. I had older disks for a Dell 4600 that I used to wipeout the hard drive and install the new OS. Everything works fine except that I can not load any of the drivers from the second disk, (it was a 3 disk series)
thus at least at this point not able to connect with my cable internet. Cable people told me I needed the drivers.Any suggestions or can it just not be done.
Thanks, Al

A:Loading Older Dell OS To Newer Dell Computer

You will have to go to the dell website look under support and then drivers and downloads for your model of computer. If you use the service tag number on the computer it will make sure you get the correct ones you need. For future reference so you wont have this hassle again burn all of the drivers to a cd so you will be all set the next time.

I have a Dell Inspiron 530, XP PRO, SP3, about a year and a half old. Almost since I first got it, every few months or so, when I boot up it hangs on the Dell screen. When I turn it off and reboot, it is fine. I use Rebit to back up everything on an ongoing basis and have an extended warranty from Dell. Is there anything I can do about this, or should do? Thanks for your help.

I would run a memory tester

Download the prebuilt ISO, burn it to CD as an Image, boot from that CD and run the memory test for a couple of hours or overnight to stress test the memory.

A:Adding a 22" Dell External Monitor to 15" Dell M70 Laptop

Get a 22" Dell monitor and connect it to the vga port on your laptop. There is an Fn + (some other key) that will enable the external monitor. You can press the Fn+(some other key) combination so that either the laptop display is used, the external display is used or have it set so both are used for the display. Typically the combination is the Fn key plus one of the F keys at the top of you keyboard.

Can anyone suggest a way to get a dell 770 printer to work on a non dell win98 system?

My friend was given the printer from his friends, but it's a dell and it's pretty muh brand new so he doesn't want to throw it away. It's also better than his current printer

Anyway, he uses the dell install disk but once it begins and runs the setup app it gives a message akin to pirating. Saying something like -this computer does not support dell , or something like - this computer is not a dell.

Can anyone offer advice. I did a search on google and dells' site and here.

It is an Analog VGA.  The manufacture date was 2014..  It was purchased closer to 2015.  There is a dark shadow on the bottom right hand corner of the screen  It is about 1 inch high.  It extends about 2-3 inches across the bottom (Where time/date is).  Looking at the shadow it has a specific and static shape almost like a graph going UP (Up hill); you know the line on the graph from x-y?  It is a  giant blob, a shadow but does have a specific shape impacting only the bottom right.  The monitor was not placed near magnets, moved, hit, dropped or struck in any manner.  It is highly unlikely it was moved without my knowledge.  It was working amazing since the day I got it.  OVERNIGHT near a windows 10 update this shadow problem happened.I unplugged it and moved it around a bit.  I noticed tapping the bottom right (where the shadow is) does make it go away for 10-30 seconds.  So touching that area in the back (not the controls) somehow fixes the problem.  I do not know if this helps but the shadow is translucent (more grey than solid black)

They tell me they all do this and maybe so but there should be a way around the issue.

If I move my cursor all the way to the left it stops at the edge of the screen. But if I go to the right to hit the X or close button on a window the mouse pointer disappears off the screen. I find this annoying and would like to be able to adjust the LCD so the mouse won't go off the screen. Has anyone ever been able to accomplish this?

A:Dell LCD Monitor

I had to read that twice since I thought you were kidding, but I know what you are talking about. On my Samsung widescreen I can still see the edge of the pointer barely. So if you can not see anything then maybe you can adjust it somehow. Is your screen stretched to wide? You should be able to manually shrink the width if it is using your monitors controls.

My wife bought a Dell Desktop unit from a friend who moved to England. She brought in the base unit, but left the keyboard and E177FPf monitor in a container outside for a few months because she forgot to bring it in.

The monitor got wet and there are air bubbles in the front of the screen. Is this repairable, or worth repairing? Should I pitch it and buy a new one? I think a new one runs around $120-150.

I was not a happy camper when I found out about it today. I think the keyboard will be fine hopefully after it dries out.

A:Dell 17" LCD Monitor Got Wet

17 inch LCD monitors are pretty cheap nowadays since most people are wanting 19+ inches. There are plenty of refurb / surplus sites on the net that sell them for super cheap. Not worth fixing in my opinion when you can buy brand new for around $100. I bought a brand new 22" monitor last month for $150. Office Max also had 19" on sale last week for $100.

Hi, first post here... I'm trying to help my sister debug a problem with her Dell monitor. It's a flat panel, maybe four years old. Three weird problems, and I'm not sure if it's the monitor or the video card.

1. Occasionally, her window bounces! I mean, if she's using her browser or her Outlook e-mail, parts of the display are bouncing up and down. I've never seen it.

2. Monitor occasionally goes into self-test mode. I've tightened the cables, but it still happens now and then. She now tells me that the floating colored box is also bouncing a little.

3. She noticed a blotch of broken color on a grey area when browsing a site.

Any clues? Thanks in advance.

Dell has started rolling out W7 drivers, but it doesn?t appear to be supporting my monitor (yet). Dell Monitor Drivers and Downloads

The W7 compatibility centre isn?t live yet either.

What would people suggest, as I don?t want to be left with an odd resolution.
Is there a generic 19? driver which would work?

I played around with a RC of W7, all be it on a different very basic PC, but using the same monitor and had no joy installing the Vista drivers.

Hi all,
I've got a Dell Inspiron 5030S with a flat screen monitor .Graphics card is an ATI Radeon. Had this rig about 3 years and it's been fine until 2 days ago.
The monitor just randomly goes black. The light on the power button stays blue, for what that's worth. I can push the button and turn it off and back on. Sometimes it stays on others, it goes right back to black. I updated the card's drivers but it still goes black.

The only change I made recently was changing the video preferences on a FPS game called FarCry (oldie but goodie). The screen goes black when I launch the game now, but it also does it when the game isn't running. May have nothing to do with the issue but it's the only change I've made.

So..based on that, any ideas? Maybe the video card is going out...or maybe the monitor itself?

Thanks for reading?

A:Dell monitor goes black

only way i know is to test. try another monitor. test. try a different cable. test. try a different video card. test.

My son has just bought a new PC from Overclockers UK which included the monitor in the subject title.
Due to the logistics in his room he is having to use a 5m DP (male/male) cable.
The issue is that when this cable is connected he gets constant screen flicker which is worse during gaming. The monitor sometimes, also shuts down with the display showing that no signal is being received.
We have now tried 5 different cables, all with the same result. 1 - from Amazon (bought as 1.2 version) & 4 - from Overclockers UK (sent after talking to their support).
If the original DP cable supplied is connected, there appears to be no issues.

I should have added that he has tried various resolution settings & refresh rates. All seem to still give the same resulting flicker.

I have Dell U2311h monitor which has 1xDVI 1xVGA and 1 Display port.
I used one DVI for PS3.I purchased Sapphire HD 6850 graphic card which has display port output.
I thought of connecting the video card to the display port of the monitor so i get one displayport adapter but it does not work.
My question is if i purchase a Displayport male to displayport male cable will it work out of the box or i need any other adapter.
Please let me know.
Also how will be the quality when using HDMI to VGA will there be any loss or distortion ?
Thank you

A:Radeon HD to Dell Monitor

Hi there, Welcome to the forums

So you're trying to connect a Standard Display Port cable into a monitor and a 6850? I see no issue in that.

For the HDMI and VGA cables it wont work without a converter as VGA is an analogue signal and HDMI is a digital signal. A standard converter cable wont do the job. DVI > VGA and DVI > HDMI works as it supports both signal types.

Even if you purchased the correct converter there is bound to be a loss in quality. In short hand no it isn't advisable to go from HDMI to VGA.

(You can purchase converters for display ports.)

Does anyone know what model this dell monitor is at all.

A:Unknown dell monitor

Hello Sharkd,

There should be a manufacturer plate or sticker somewhere on the back or bottom of the monitor with a model number.

Hope this helps,

Dell is releasing a new 5K monitor in Q4 this year. That's your ideal 2560 x 1440 quadrupled for retina effect, while keeping the perfect proportions, with the software that supports it that is, for the total of 5120 x 2880 madness.

And I thought 4K was crazy high resolution already xD.

Hello -
So I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 24-5459 All-In-One for personal use. However, when I work from home with my work laptop, I'd love to be able to use the AIO as a second monitor. Is this functionality possible using HDMI? Thanks in advance for the help!

or maybe its just the owner/operator??HAAH!!

i purchased it from dell last xmas. when my computer goes into snooze mode, and i move the mouse to wake it up,the monitor screen is shifted down so there is a blank space at the top. then i hit the "AUTO" button on that front and it fixes itself. all is okay till it goes into snooze or i reboot, then i hafta hit "AUTO" again.

i ve attempted to tweak the screens vertical adjustment, but it doesnt help. when the screen is jogged down, and i attempt to adjust it,it refuses to jog up as it should.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated. dell had these monitors on sale last fall/winter as an upgrade when purchasing a new puter and purchasing separately. it works just dandy, except for this little quirk.

thank you for your time and also i would like to thank my good friend Korgul for the heads up about this forum(this is post numero uno for moi )

edit: oops, should be in hardware. please move,so sorry

Hey guys,

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I recently got a Dell monitor (custom PC), and at the same time as installing it I installed a new 550W power supply and did a repair install of windows.

Everything is in order except my video card and monitor are not recognized. I tried deleting and then reinstalling my videocard drivers (ATI Rage 128 Pro), but Catalyst 5.10 told me to install a standard VGA driver for my monitor first. I tried to find a driver off of Dell's website (though I'm aware that monitors don't really *have* drivers, I'm also aware that Dell is odd), but the only one I could find doesn't have install directions for XP.

Being the bold guy that I am, I tried to figure it out myself; desktop--properties--settings--advanced---driver yields: "VgaSave Display Controller" with no options to do anything (update...?) except "stop" and changing the startup option - its currently listed as system. Other attempts to install that driver manually worked out in similar fashion.

So then I turn to microsoft but where they tell me to right click on video adapter (step #2 under "Forcing Windows to Use the Standard VGA Mode Drivers Without Having to Use Safe Mode"), I can't see it in the first place.

I can give you guys more information if you need it, I can't think of anything else that'd be pertinent. Thanks again!

There should be an .inf for the monitor, If this moniter was reconized before.
Look in Winnt,system32, spool, drivers, color and see if there is a file there that matches you monitor mod no. When it asks for the driver point it there.

640x480 high color (16 bit) default refresh

generic PnP monitor on standard vga grafics adaptor,

i had no problems when i used windows xp. any suggestions

i have tried to uninstall, reboot, it also tells me the current driver is the best.

A:W2600 Dell monitor

Your problem is the vga graphics adapter.

You need to find the correct driver for the hardware you have.

Fill out your system spec's, and then we can help with the driver problem.

I have recently accquired one of these monitors and have tried to get the usb ports to work but with no success. I read the old thread but after inserting a cable it still does not work although I think the cable is for a printer.
Will this work or does it have to be some kind of special cable?

I'm trying to get dual monitors hooked up to my docking station. The blue hookup works. The white doesn't. I can't download nvadia. Now the one screen that worked is a black screen with a mouse arrow. Have win 7 enterprise, downloaded win 7 vista updates though the disc that came with the monitors.

Hi busher566 welcome to TSF,

Have you tried hooking it up to another computer? this will rule out the pc or monitor.

My fiance has a Dell Dimension 4700 with a 17" FP monitor also from Dell; both are 2.5 years old.
(That's not the problem... or is it? LOL)

Earlier today, when the monitor returned from 'sleep mode', the monitor's on button flickered on and off, resulting in no display whatsoever. Teasing the on/off switch didn't seem to cause the button to remain on or off - it kept cycling between the two power states. Giving it a several hour rest to cool down didn't seem to help, either.

Question (this is for a short-term solution):
Is it okay to hookup an old Gateway CRT monitor to the Dell system without endangering the CPU?

Granted, the monitor is old... but it has worked for 15 years and still seems to have some life in it. My fiance is concerned that there could be issues with proprietary wiring, and with that in mind, obviously doesn't want to fry his CPU.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide in this small issue.

A:Would a 15-yr-old monitor be compatible with a 2.5-yr-old Dell?

Have at it! As long as it has a VGA connection you should be all good. At the worst, you won't get an image on the monitor at all.

I've had the pleasure of hauling freakishly heavy, circa 1980's Mitsubishi CRT's out of a place, and they still worked on fairly modern computers. Those *******s.

Hi all,

Recently, my Dell flat-panel monitor has been turning off on its own (green power light does not light on). I'll push the power light back on and the screen will come back on but turn right back off. On some tries, it doesn't even come back on.

I tried plugging the monitor power cord into another outlet and I am still havintg the same issues. I do not have an extra monitor to test to see if the problems occurs with another monitor.

I don't know if the monitor is overheating, if that's even possible? Or if it just old and needs replacing. The monitor is probably ~5 years old.

I don't see a model # on the screen but if anyone needs additional information I can gladly try to provide.

Thanks in advance~

HI, I'm using dell 2408 monitor and having an issue with screen resolution. It only lets me set at 1920 x 1200. I usually set it lower so to see the desk a little better or bigger. At this resolution i have to set the text to 150% just to read it. I have 20/20 vision. lol CAD - skin using is called the wall - [url][url] 1280 x 1024 is the only one fitting perfectly to my monitor settings that are at 1920 x 1200, the larger skins that are supposed to fit are going over to my second monitor so i know they are wrong. Also some programs are so tiny even with the 150% text. Jaikoz is what i use to tag my music and it is so small of a text that I can barley read it without using cheaters - making me wondering wtf is going on. using a diamond radion x1050 card, guess that could be problem why i'm asking. Thanks - any and all help good or bad is appreciated Peace, t41
