Solved: Print screen key prints previous screen instead of printing the current screen

Q: Solved: Print screen key prints previous screen instead of printing the current screen

This is the strangest thing I've ever seen from a PC. I'm at the computer and the print screen key prints the previous screen rather than printing the current screen.

Another peculiarity on this PC is the behavior I get from a paid version of PDF-995. This is software that is used to convert non-PDF files into PDFs. It is behaving very strangely. Instead of capturing the current document, it appears to actually create a PDF that is a print-capture of the previous screen - the desktop screen that was up before you were looking at the document you want to convert to pdf format.

Has anyone ever seen this before?

It's running Windows XP Pro. The hardware is a 2.5GHz CPU with 256 MR of RAM. I haven't noticed any other odd behavior on the PC yet. No recent downloads that I know of.

I have no trouble using "print screen", and saving it into "paint". However, when I then try to print from "paint", the copy is all "screwed up". It sprawls over several pages particularly when using the "landscape" mode (which is reccomended). Also, I am having trouble posting and printing the portions of "print screen" that interest me. I am using a PC with Vista OS. Please advise. Thank you

My problem started much like that of Busybee, with files being deleted, orphan files being restored and security something or other, however, after reboot from CD, and running Startup Repair, the tests all appear to be OK, except "Root Cause Found - Volume on disk is corrupt" Result: Completed successfully, Error Code=0x0

At this point the pc goes through the never ending sequence of trying to boot up, black screen then blue screen, etc.

Operating System: Windows Vista 32 bit, service pack 2
C:\ 500Gb HD with
D:\ 20Gb restore using 12Gb

Disk failure diagnosis test result OK

Most recent change, made a day or so prior to the crash, was retuning digital tv tuner when the changeover from Analog to Digital signal was needed to update channels here in UK. The screen shows "No Signal Analog" at beginning and end of reboot sequence.

The black screen suggests this may be a recent hardware or software issue, and advises removal of any recent changes, but as I cannot get into the system, let alone the control panel, I am unable to remove or disable anything.

Would really appreciate being able to at least recover my files, and as I am unable to access the operating system either by safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, or a normal reboot, would welcome any advice about how I can achieve this.

I have a laptop also running Vista 32 bit if that would be of any help in accessing the files.

Hi,

CPU: Intel Core2 QUAD 9300
Motherboard: AsRock x48 TurboTwins
Ram: DDR2 2x 2GB, 800 GHz, brand Hynix
GPU: ATI HD 5770
PSU: Corsair 650 W
OS: Windows 7
Custom build

I installed Civilization 5 (and directX 9 as well because I was asked to during the installation). After few minutes of being in the game a blue screen popped up (I do not know what message was on there). I restarted the computer and system recommended to run the fix mode. I launched it and after a while I was advised to bring the settings back to the restore point. I acknowledged this but then all I saw was a black screen. Since then, after each restart the screen goes black. If I manage to go to BIOS after 5-10 seconds the screen goes black. I cannot even reinstall Windows.

Those 5-10 seconds in BIOS are enough to check the temperatures on CPU and MB: they are around 30 degrees Celsius so overheating is not the problem. I connected the monitor with my laptop and it works, so monitor is fine. There are no loose connections. There is no dust and debris - this system is 2 months old.

Problem might be in the graphics card. Several weeks ago the screen used to go grey after playing Fallout 3 for 10-15 minutes. I disabled the audio on the card and that solved the problem. However, Windows still indicated that there is something wrong with the GPU; on the other hand, drivers were up-to-date.

Can anyone help please? Or let me know what you think might be wrong.

Thanks.

A:The screen goes black after previous blue screen (even in BIOS)

Since you are having a graphics issue in both the BIOS startup screen and while Windows is open, it does sound like a graphics card problem and not a driver problem. Do you have another graphics card to substitute for test purposes?

I am trying to do a print screen by ALT+PRTSC and it's not working. Is there a certain feature that I may need to turn on? Now I can copy text from a doc but just not a print screen. I have right clicked and copied the image.....but I have a page that isn't an image and it won't let me do it, just pastes what was on the clipboard before. Do I need to empty the clipboard first?

Thanks!

It seems that other people are having the same challenges:

What I mean is, I try to take a screenshot of a game I'm playing (Diablo 3 in particular) and it's like my computer doesn't even know it's running/it's invisible to it. I get a screenshot of my desktop instead.

The first time I tried to paste it, I got a strange result, in that it just gave me a grey box, instead of the screenshot, thereafter, this started happening.

How does one get a printout with the list of folders and files when a particular directory is on a Windows XP screen?

In DOS, you could do a DIR command and direct the output to th printer. I'm looking for the same results without going to the c:\ prompt.

Maybe there's a keystroke that will do this??? Pushing "prt sc" doesn't work and neither does CTL-P. And there's no printer icon that can be chosen for the toolbar in order to print the screen.

So, how can I get an image or the information that's on the screen transferred to the printer???

A:printing screen or screen capture

Print Screen copies an image of whatever's showing on the monitor to the clipboard. After pressing the Print Screen button, open a picture editing program and paste the image the Print Screen placed on the clipboard. From there you should be able to print it out on a printer.

Is use of the "print screen" button on the keyboard (and pasting info into image viewer) in anyway considered "screen scraping?" I have used this method to save information in the past like when I pay a bill.

A:Screen scraping vs. Print screen

Hi bizmom101, welcome to 7F!

I believe the use of print screen and the snipping tool would most definitely be considered screen scraping; But, you shouldn't be worried about copyright infringement, perhaps you are confusing it with content scraping?

https://screen-scraping | www.techopedia.com
https://content-scraping | www.techopedia.com

I keep a running account of bills that I pay online in my word processor or spreadsheet by using the above tools and or just copy and paste, the key action here is using scraping for personal gain [think monetarily], and that's what differentiates screen from content scraping.
It will no doubt be arguable that the way you and I use scraping is still a form of infringement or plagiarism, but I see no harm if it's for our own private and personal use.

The use of quotations in a post is tolerated here at SevenForums only if one uses no more than the first paragraph, and links the quote to a source: as an example here's how I would do it from the screen scraping link from above:

Quote:
Screen scraping is the process of collecting screen display data from one application and translating it so that another application can display it. This is normally done to capture data from a legacy application in order to display it using a more modern user interface....

However, you could either just rename the file extension, or open the .png file in mspaint.exe, and use "Save as" to save it as a .jpeg or .jpg file if you like.

Hi all,

Brand new here, so bear with me.....I'm trying to enlarge a Web page (in Print Preview) so that its legible but when I actually print it, it remains at about 75%. I've set the Print Preview to 200%, but it stills prints so small that the page is illegible. What am I doing wrong? The odd thing about this is that when I try the same thing in Mozilla Firefox, it prints just fine! Is this a Microsoft problem or am I just missing something?

Thanks in advance,

A:Printing a "Print Preview" screen in IE6

Beats me, the "print preview" size should only affect the preview, not the actual printed document.

However the actual text/font size on the page can be adjusted by pressing the ctrl key and using the mouse wheel to scroll up or down. This should carry over to the printed document.

I did some thing like that with instructions for an non computer savy relative trying to teach her to use the internet/e-mail. If you have MS Word, i wrote the intro for the page, went to the application and when the page i needed to show was on top, i did a Print Screen button which copies the entire desktop to the clipboard. Your can get just the current active page by using the Ctrl+Print Screen button. Back in Word, i picked an area below the text and did a Paste button which placed the picture of the demonstration page in the document. You can click on the picture, and you will see handles that you can use to adjust the size of the picture to fit the page better. It was labor intensive, but it worked good enough to keep the relative from needing coaching until she got the hang of it.

To fix the screen, read the model number of your monitor off the back of it. Do a search for the model number/brand driver for it. Then right click on the desktop, choose properties/settings/advanced/monitor/properties/driver/update driver and load the correct monitor driver instead of just setting it plug and play.

Check the paper settings on the printer, make sure if your using plain paper it's set for A4 as a paper type.

How can i take screen prints of mouse clicks and only of active window.. something like psr, the problem i am having is psr takes screenprint of entire screen. is there a code that i can use to get this done

A:screen prints of mouse clicks and only of active window.

Hi mmccconaghy,Thanks for the linkThis is the same as what i am attempting to you, i did something similar that the OP requested years ago in VB6 as part of a uni project, but as i dont use VB6 anymore on my current machine i cannot compile the code to and exe. i am using this again in VBA in Excel and it works ok, seems to capture the screen shot of the active window, but that is on every click, so even if you click on the start button it snaps that. It also has a lot of issues with efficiency, the timer causes the pc to hang for a few seconds, i know this can be resolved but i dont have time right now to play with it. The code looks for the click event, evaluates whether it was the left or right, then print screens and pastes the content of the clipboard to sheet1. Then it exports the content of sheet one to a folder with the time hhmmss .jpg. I was hoping Derby would take a look if he doesnt mind. Lets see what the OP thinks of this sort of solution..Thanks again

This works most of the time, however on a regular basis the screensaver will resume to the following screen and just stay there forever.

I've been using Windows 10 for just over one year. For some reason the Lock Screen/Sign-in screen shows three users. All three are me in three iterations. I find also that when trying to save some excel and word documents I receive messages saying that i am not allowed to save to this folder or that folder. I am able to save to the desk top and then drag and drop the document into the folder that I need to place it in. I know that this must have something to do with "permissions". Not sure how to fix that. One of the accounts that shows up is the initial account that I created back when hotmail.com was around. Any ideas/advice on these issues? When i updated to Windows 10, pretty certain that i followed all of the instructions, although that has been over 1 year now. Thank you in advance...cheers and beers to all!

I am trying to add a few screen shots for a document.
I am having problems utilizing the Print Screen function and pasting it into a new Word document. As I press Ctrl-V nothing appears to be pasted until I click the Enter button and the image I pasted finally appears. In the document, if i click on this invisible image, I see the borders of the print screen image highlighted, but still not viewable.

I haven't touched the Tools - Options setting, default settings should be selected. I passed the document on to a co-worker to see if she could see it and with luck, she could see the screen shot I pasted. She was also able to perform the same functions I am having problems with..so I guess it' has to be something with my settings?...

I am using Word 2003--I use all office 2003 applications for work. I thought by closing out of Outlook would help by concentrating on one Task/application, but that didn't help.
PC Model 5100mt
RAM = 512

Any suggestions...would be greatly appreciated.

A:Solved: Word 2003 Print Screen problems

More than likely your memory is your issue. You do not have much and if you are rendering lots of images it eats up your computers memory. I have seen this also happen with low-end video cards as well. It has issues rendering or displaying them. Typically if you minimize and maximize you can then see the image. I have not tried the hit enter afterwards though.

Good morning, I am not a computer savvy guy, although I am a hands on person so always try to solve things myself first by research and asking peers for help.
This is my problem: I have a gateway gz7108tv in which I run fs2004. It is not the best system for it but adequate. I have been having on and off problems for some time with my system where it freezes and I need to reboot, or do a system restore, but I always got it to work. Some problems that I can remember also, with IE, it would shut down due to unexpected problems and it would restart, this started happening the last two months.
Last night I ran malware bytes because my system was a bit sluggish, more than usual, this am I saw there was one item, removed it and restarted the computer.
I then attempted to go online thru IE, and got a blue screen, which had never happened to me before. I also have google chrome in my computer, but it could not connect to the Internet either, but no blue screen there though.
I then copied and pasted the error report to notepad and windows word, but when trying to print it, it could not find my printer either.
I also got the irql_not_less_or_equal message, and 0x0000000A, and honestly I don't know what to do.
I am not Trying to generate pity, but being a cancer patient whose insurance policy was cancelled, every dollar counts, so I would rather fix it myself with your help before going to a computer tech here in long beach.
Thanks for your help

Is there a way to set printing preferences in Vista so that whatever settings used from the previous print page are retained for the next time automatically?

Example:
Using Acrobat to print a doc, if I change the paper handling settings, print and close app, the next time I open and print, those paper handling settings are still set to the previous settings. Same with Office.

My XP settings retain the settings, but when I try to set a dif preference within Vista, the next time I print they revert to the default.
I notice that in XP, it's retained with Acrobat, Office etc, so I wouldn't think it to be a setting within each program, but I'm not certain.

Thanks for the assistance!

Hi,

i'm having to boot into windows xp. on power up sytem goes through the windows xp splash screen (with progress bar) and then instead of login prompt it goes just into the blue screen with moveable mouse pointer arrow.

issue seems to be similar to:
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/868562-solved-windows-xp-pro-startup.html
http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/868463-startup-problem.html
but recommended solutions didn't help so far.

symptoms just before issue - was not able to run use some system features - utility to turn off the display, utility to bring up battery info - everything was working fine before this

what i've tried:
boot to Last Known Good Configuration - resulting in the same blue screen

boot to Safe Mode / Safe Mode with networking / Safe Mode with comman prompt - resulting in blank (black) screen with "Safe Mode" in the corners and moveable mouse

test the hardware (hard drive / memory etc.) via build in PC Doctor - all seems to be working
i am able to use bootable XP CD from other machine to get into Recovery Console
i am able to boot to simple live XP using BartPE-XPE usb key and access the hard drive

could you please help me to find solution to this issue
thank you in advance

Hi,

I've been working on a dell inspiron 1525 today and cant figure what is causing this problem.

The laptop boots, displays the post screen, and then the screen goes black.
You can boot into BIOS,
You can boot into the Boot menu.

You cannot boot into safe mode, the f8 key does nothing,
when using the boot menu, u can't boot into a windows disc to reload the operating system, it just goes black.
I did however manage to boot into a linux cd i have and run a HDD test (what passed) and a memory test (what also passed).

It does exactly the same on an external monitor aswell so I am lost with this one.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Now, when I log into my account, the screen stays black and all I see is the pointer. What can I do to solve this? The PC is shut down right now.

A:Solved: Screen is black after system restore and update. Set back one day, screen is

Usually, system restore is used to resolve problems like this. You might want to consider doing a clean install and see if that has any affect. Hopefully your data is saved on an external or flash drive. Hi, thanks for checking my question. I haven't found an answer to my particular situation:

Dell xps m1430 laptop w/vista (32).

It all started with a blue screen w/scrolling text after the fated restart. The blue screen text said "if this is the first time you've seen this message..." and then comp restarted, again showing the blue screen, then restarted into windows repair mode, after repair mode tried to fix the problem comp restarted, then the screen went black / blank right after the little windows loading animation (where the bar keeps moving from left to right and there's a small windows logo).
It all happened fast, so there may have been steps I forgot, but that's the jist of it.

Now screen always goes black / blank during startup after the windows loading animation, so I can't start windows in normal mode.
I can start in safe mode if I manually force shutdown by holding the power button, so I'm not imploding with fear... ok I am.

Possible causes:
1. This occured right after installing 11 vista updates (that restart was when I saw the blue screen)

2. Also occured the restart after running a patch called "Vista TCP/IP and UAC AutoPatch 6.0" I downloaded it from softpedia, the developer was listed as defcon, and their website listed was securevista.net, but the site is down(I found this out after the problem occured). You need to change the primary video card in the BIOS setup of the computer from the onboard video to PCI-Express/PEG and then you need to disable the integrated video. Your computer is still set to use the integrated video card as the primary card. Once you have it set correctly to the PCI-Express card then you shoudl always have the monitor connected to the new card and it shoudl display everything correctly.

Hi,

I'm having a problem with BF2 where the game will crash with a
"BF2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close."
error, right after the logo screen. The game doesn't enter full screen mode.

The first time I saw this error was when I was playing around with BattleRecorder (BF2's own recording engine), and I tried to launch a movie in BattleLauncher. This throws the error described above and I can't run BF2 again without getting the error until the computer is RESTARTED (no logoff and back on). I searched for a way to make Battlerecorder work and I gave up. But, the problem now seems to occur when Battlefield 2 is run for a second time. For example, if I turn on the computer, run BF2, play, close BF2, and try to play again without a restart, it crashes. I tried multiple things to fix this problem, and I eventually ended up downgrading my nvidia drivers to 84.21 (i was running 84.25 beta).

I THOUGHT this fixed the problem, but I must have only tried to open the game once when I went and downgraded the drivers, because it still happens. The only things I have installed recently are xfire, and I remember that that program threw me the error whenever I clicked somewhere inside the program to launch BF2 (xfire has a feature to launch bf2 for you so you can play with a friend). I suppose I should uninstall xfire... I'll try that now.

Hello, I'll go ahead and start from the very beginning. Thanks in advance though for taking a look at my problem.

About a month ago, my computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart. Next time, generally it would work perfect.

So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.

Just to let you know I'm running Raid0, and this is my first time running it. I'm not sure if this symptom is a common problem if one of the disks are going out. Does anyone know whats going on? Could it be a virus that messed with a boot.ini or any startup stuff? also, is there anyw... Read more

A:[SOLVED] BSOD help. Blank screen after BIOS pop up and blue screen while trying to re

Hi,

From the video you provided (which is great, by the way)... your system is failing to POST. Essentially if the system detects that a device or component is failing to provide the accurate information, which ensures that it would then be safe to run, the system will not POST.

From the looks of it, your hard drive or memory appears to be the issue which is the issue in most of the cases like this as you're BSOD'ing right after loading the Windows disc and after it loads the files necessary for the install.

My current advice:

1. Clear / reset the CMOS and try booting up and or loading the disc again.

2. If possible using another system, possibly a laptop... etc, download and run Memtest86+ -

Memtest86+:

Which should I download?

You can either download the pre-compiled ISO that you would burn to a CD and then boot from the CD, or you can download the auto-installer for the USB key. What this will do is format your USB drive, make it a bootable device, and then install the necessary files. Both do the same job, it's just up to you which you choose, or which you have available (whether it's CD or USB).

How Memtest works:

Memtest86 writes a series of test patterns to most memory addresses, reads back the data written, and compares it for errors.

The default pass does 9 different tests, varying in access patterns ... Read more

Hello,

I'm working on an emachines T1120 with 256mb of RAM. The problem is that no matter what I do I can't get it to boot all the way into Windows. On startup, I automatically get the Safe Mode screen. No matter which option I choose, it does the same thing: I get the initial Windows screen, then a blue screen appears with the following messsage:

Check with your hardware vendors for any BIOS update. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components restart your computer. press F8to select advanced start up options, then select safe mode.

STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0x80576DCF, 0xA95E52A0, 0x00000000)

Begin dumping of physical memory.

I don't have the Windows disk that came with this computer, but I have one from another computer running the same version of Windows. I'm not sure how to use the recovery option - every time I've tried I just get a c:\ prompt. Not sure what to do at that point.

Any thoughts?

I just bought an HP Pavillion dv6-7014nr and I love it! Except for one thing. I upgraded to the 1920x1080 screen to get the HD quality and the matte display. Everything on this screen is so tiny, its uncomfortable to read. I have increased the text size in windows to 130% dpi and I have downloaded and extension in Firefox to keep the zoom level I like. My problem is that with this increased DPI setting, the text in programs, such as iTunes gets cut off or overlaps. I was just wondering if there was a solution to this problem, or is it just something I have to live with?
Thanks very much!

A:[SOLVED] 1920x1080 screen resolution on a 15.6" Laptop Screen

1920x1080 doesn't suit everyone on a 15.6" screen as it's really more suited to large-screen external monitors (20" or more). It's big plus of course is that it gives you much more screen space to use for multi-tasking or using apps which have many palettes (like Photoshop). Personally I think 1920x1080 is way too high for the average laptop screen size unless you've got perfect eyesight.

If you don't need all that space, you may find that setting a lower resolution (and changing DPI & zoom levels back to their defaults) is more in line with what your eyesight can deal with. It probably won't look as pin-sharp as the native 1920x1080 resolution though, but at least you shouldn't get some app Windows extending beyond the screen edges.

Now, this is frustrating - last night I left my computer and went to bed leaving it running, woke up this morning to see it stuck at the "CPU is unworkable, blah blah" screen (I get this message whenever I restart/turn the computer on), so for some reason my computer decided to restart itself.

Got into windows loading screen, and it's started installing updates, but I don't even know which ones - and whatever they were, they've messed up my screen resolution. I'm using a 21" widescreen monitor and is best used at 1440x900, but after these vista "updates" installed themselves I can no longer select this resolution from the display settings, nor does it even show in the "List all Modes..." section.

So how do I even begin to find out what this problem is, and how to fix it?

So far I've tried reinstalling my graphic drivers, but it hasn't changed anything.

Erm, I've also now noticed i'm unable to select the Windows Aero settings for my PC.

I am using Windows 7, (64 bit) on a Toshiba Laptop. I am using a wireless keyboard and mouse from Logitech with the Laptop.

My problem has just started in the last week. It seems while I am either typing or using the mouse, I exit the screen I am on
and Windows complains. When this happens I have to move the cursor back into the screen to select it again and then start typing again. It will usually
happen in the middle of a word, but sometimes it happens if I just move the mouse inadvertantly. A few times it just happens without any typing or mouse movement.

It has occured in various Open Office programs, i.e., writer, spreadsheets, etc. It has also happened in Notepad when I am
using it as a program editor.

Any one else experiencing this or any clues as to what is going on?

Hello,

I have two displays setup, one is a TV (main display) and the other is a small monitor (extended display).

When I'm only using the small monitor as a display, how would I go about moving windows over from the main display to this extended one?

I am not talking about disabling the main display or changing those settings. I want the small monitor to still be the extended display. I simply want to move windows over via the task-bar or another method that doesn't involve clicking the window itself (which is on the main display, which is either off or displaying something else).

A:Move window to current screen?

For any dual or multi display set up most will opt for a 3rd party program like DisplayFusion or UltraMon. Each of the two programs feature a Smart bar or extension of the taskbar where when moving anything over for display from one to the other the icon on the taskbar goes along with it.

Another feature seen with the two is the move button which eliminates the need to click on and hold as you drag a window from one screen to the next. With a manual click to hold and drag the window being moved will maximise itself upon reaching the next screen. With a move button the window remains at the same size.

Good evening!
Is there a software that enables the us to automatically darken the rest of the screen and just focus on the current active window?
I googled and found nothing, except for Kino, but it's hard to use.

From your link alone I have found both CinemaDrape and Universal DarkRoom. From reading the entries I'd say that the latter one is the most user friendly.
Good luck and keep us posted,

A:[SOLVED] widescreen but my max screen resolution doesnt fit the whole screen

Thanks to whoever moved this post, i didnt know were to put it, also,, PROBLEM FIXED, if anyone gets this problem on WINDOWS 7 all you do is:

Step 1: right click ->> Screen Resolution
Step 2: Change the Multiple displays to Duplicate these displays.

This wont fit the whole desktop on ure screen if u have a big widescreen like mine, but this will make it unable to move items off the screen

Hope this helps

Hi,

After doing a fresh install of windows xp home on my friend's HP laptop, she took it away and has been happily using it for the last week.

(Reason for fresh install was suspected infection)

Now, it starts and almost gets to the logon, but a two second blue screen with the message:-

"Begining dump of physical memory. Physical dump complete. Contact your system administer or technical support for further assistance"

It then reboots back to the safe mode options screen and will not boot into any of them.

She says it hasn't had a knock or fall, but the only time I've seen a message like that before was when it was due to a hardware issue?

Any advice?

Hello: Today I received a blue screen stop error message. I was using my AOL software at the time it occurred. This is the second time it happened; the first time was about a month ago. Last time I upgraded the driver for my video card, and I thought that had taken care of it. I don't remember for sure, but I was probably using my AOL software when it happened last time also.

The message today included this information:

Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x0000008E (0x0000001, 0xAFCAE925, oxA714438c, 0x00000000)
*** watchdog.sys - Address AFCAE925 base at AFCAE000, DateStamp 480254ab

The message from a month ago was slightly different. It included the following information:

Technical Information:
***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xE0000001, 0xB3ED1925, 0xA379D320, 0x00000000)
***watchdog.sys - Address B3ED1925 base at B3ED1000, DateStamp 480254ab

I restarted the computer without incident.

I'd appreciate any advice; thanks.

So here's the deal, starting from the beginning!
Note: I've been away for about a year, and I just got back today.

I'm pretty psyched about Starcraft 2, so I tried to install it a couple hours ago. The software failed to connect to the Internet to validate the installation. At the suggestion of a member of another forum, I ran ComboFix.exe. It totally fixed the problem.

I could have stopped there, but I was a little greedy. I then installed 87 Windows Updates on my computer, up to but not including XP Service Pack 3. I did this because SC II more or less asked me to.

I restarted upon completion and the problem began. After the Windows loading screen, the screen becomes black. Shortly afterward, there is no more input to the monitor (it turns off). I hear a beep every 40 seconds from my computer, but nothing else. This continues until I restart.

Safe Mode and Last Known Configuration do not work. I have the Recovery Console installed, but I don't know what to do with that. Unfortunately I disabled System Restore quite a while ago to save space.

I am fairly certain the culprit is these Windows updates. What I would ideally like to do is, well, uninstall them. I don't know how to navigate the text workspace of the Recovery Console, though... and I don't even know if it can be done.

I'd really appreciate any help at all. It's so unfortunate that my computer worked great after a year of sitting idle, and then I went and messed it up in an hour!

A:[SOLVED] Black screen after Windows loading screen

Use an XP Installation Disk to run chkdsk, and hope your problem is HD errors.

If Safe Mode, Last known good configuration and System Restore are all not working, the only thing left is a Repair Installation.

Do you have a XP Installation disk ?

This is what someone else wrote in another topic: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/741250-windows-warning-message-win32-adware.html

"I booted my computer up today, and saw my background wasn't available anymore. Then I see the message, "Warning! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer". It says that Win32/Adware.Virtumonde and Win32/PrivacyRemover.M64 are on my computer."

I had the exact same problem but i followed the instructions that someone posted in that topic, these were the instructions posted by "drdrew1469":

"I just got through fixing this (I hope). What it did here was change the background and set the screensaver to the sysinternals bluescreen screensaver (which you may be seeing) while at the same time setting policies in the registry to disable the two aforementioned tabs in the Display properties window.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System \NoDispBackgroundPage and [same]\NoDispScrSvrPage (they are both set to 1. Delete both entries.

Then check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run for any funky alphanumeric filenames (I'm pretty sure it's just a random string anyway so posting the string probably won't help you much). Delete these keys and the associated file(s). (Doesn't hurt to check msconfig either, but I found nothing there)."

Hi: I have done a Print Screen of my desktop and pasted it in Paint. Then saved the file on my hard drive - which I have done in the past. But now I cannot get it printed out on a full page (81/2 x 11 Page). Why? I have done this before but cannot do so tonight. I can print but in smaller size.

Thanks,

Once you paste it in Paint, click on Resize. What does it show for Percentage and Pixels?

Also try opening it in Windows Photo Viewer and printing from there.

I'm using 8 on a non-touch laptop. I generally like it, but the most frustrating thing to me is that I can't "go back" to a previous screen. For instance, I open an email attachment and it automatically goes into full screen viewing. When I'm done looking at the attachment, I have no idea how to go back to the previous email screen. So I have to go all the way back to the start screen, and then into my email to get to the previous page. I'm clearly doing it wrong. Help!

A:Simple question: How do I go back to a previous screen?

Hello Tirade. Welcome to EightForums.

Mouse pointer to upper left corner -> Mini screens of anything open appear -> Press one. (Right click will close them) Or alt/tab to flip through open apps as in past OSs.

Got a used Optiplex 980 SFF, and the name of the previous owner shows up on the Dell logo splash screen when I first turn it on, up above the Dell logo. Is there a way to change that? Thanks!

A:Optiplex 980 - Previous Owner's name on splash screen

F2 into bios and change the ASSET TAG Field. Otherwise you need to use the DCCU utility to change this.
http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/os-applications/w/wiki/2545
You can ONLY change the asset tag however NOT the service tag if it has a value.

Maintenance

Asset Tag

This option is not set by default.

So here is what I did.. I used Razer Synapse software to bind ALT+TAB to just Alt.
This sort of works, but sometimes it alt tabs to my browser. Would there somehow be a way to only have it alt tab between two active programs? Thanks
