Monitor screen is black but power button is still on

Q: Monitor screen is black but power button is still on

This is my first post! woot woot.
anyways.. I search the forum, nothing really to my problem

I have Windows Xp and I have two monitors hooked up to the computer. My larger monitor does not work anymore. The screen is mostly always black but the power button stays on... if i play around with it and click the input button i can get the desktop to come up but it flickers and lines goes down the screen and still is unusable--- after about five mins of this, it just turns black anyways

I switch where the monitors connect to the computer, but still the larger monitor does not work. The smaller one still worked fine. Its the monitor itself... well... its not the graphic card in the computer or dust or anything was where i was trying to get at..

I also changed the screen refreshing to 60 hertz, changed the color quality to 16 bit as well as change the screen resolution to the lowest it can go, which is 800 by 600 pixels

I can't think of anything else to do?
Please help..

Thank you.

I need some help. I have acomputer monitor that is roughly 10 years old. THe monitor last night decided to suddenly turn off and the power button started blinking. I unplugged the power to the monitor and let it sit overnight. This morning I went and plugged the power back into the monitor and pressed the power button on it. When I pressed the power button the button started blinking again. I have never had a monitor die like this and I would like to know why it died and if it can be fixed. Some more info is that i had only been on the computer for less than 2 hours. I have not spilled anything on the computer, the vent is completely uncovered, and the computer is in good working conditions according to the mannual. I need to know asap please. The tower still works perfectly fine it is only the monitor.

A:Monitor is black and the power button on the monitor is blinking

If you could try the monitor on another PC, that would confirm the monitor is faulty. In any case if the monitor is bad and considering its age, it would be best to just replace it. It would not be worth fixing.

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
Firstly check if you can drain all the excess power from the system .
Check if you are able to run the LCD BIST .

1.                    Turn the computer off.
2.                    Press and hold the D key while pressing the power button. This will start the Laptop LCD BIST.
3.                    The screen will display multiple flashing colors. Look for lines, distortion, or any other video issues you have observed.
4.                     The laptop will restart when the test is finished.
Kindly private message the service tag to the system .
Thanks

I can't find the answer to this anywhere and I am not sure this is the right forum..but..I have a Toshiba notebook that has been giving me problems and worsening.

I push the power button and it lights and nothing happens...black screen. I push it again to turn it off, then I am constantly pushing the button on and off. After about ten minutes it will go right into the normal boot mode. Not sure why it is taking longer to get into this normal boot mode I have windows 7 and I have a Toshiba Satelite T 115-S1100. I would be so grateful for any help. Thanks.

Hello,
My problem is that my monitor (Samsung SyncMaster205BW) 20in. diagonal, was displaying a horizontal stretched view. A day or so ago I changed my OS from Windows Vista to Windows XP. When running Visa the picture was very good indeed, and in proportion. Since using XP the display isn't correct with a stretched horizontal view and large print, fuzzy appearance etc. etc.. I looked in the Display/Settings/Advanced/Monitor...which gave 'Default monitor'as a label, (should this not have labelled it Samsung etc....?)and with Properties grayed out. The Adaptor tab brought up the Adaptor and the Tab List all modes, with one of these selected. I was looking at the Properties of this Adaptor, then Device usage at the bottom, with the selection of 'Use... or do not use...' and unfortunately I might have left it on the Do Not Use, closed the windows, shutdown and went to lunch, .... and now I have now operating screen. How can I get this back?
At the time I was looking for the correct driver for using XP because I guess the operating driver at that time was for Vista
I would be very grateful for any help.

A:Solved: Monitor problem: on-off button is lit up, but the screen is blank (black)

on boot up hit f8 to boot up in safe mode and then change your resolution back to something normal so you can see it on your monitor. then get the latest driver for your video card, those new wide screen monitors don't use normal resolutions that are in the default drivers for windows xp (especially if you haven't done updates).

NOTE: Moderators, if you feel this issue would be better suited in another sub-forum. Please let me know.

Okay so starting sometime this morning I have started having an issue with my displays. (My system specs are in my profile.) I am running a dual monitor setup with one being a Dell U3415W and the other being a Vizio M65-C1 65" 4K UHD TV. I use the one monitor to do work and the TV for entertainment (movies, games, etc.) so here is the problem. Up until this morning everything worked as it should. If I was watching a TV show or something I could turn monitor 1 off and back on as necessary without disturbing what was going on, on monitor 2. Now when I turn monitor 1 off and then back on I get nothing but a black screen. I am able to fix this by unplugging the monitor from the back of the computer, then plugging it back in. everything seems to work fine after that until I, once again, turn the monitor back off.

While monitor 1 has the black screen, I have checked display properties using the TV and it shows the monitor is still detected, and the proper resolution. Also, the monitor itself acts as if it is still functioning because the "no signal" image doesn't appear and it doesn't go to sleep it just stays black.

I am completely at a loss for what could be the issue. Thanks in advance for any help anyone is able to offer.

Hey guys, usually pretty self sufficient when it comes to hardware issues but i have no experience with monitors going awry and seek some advice.

The issues a relatively simple one, when first starting the computer there is a problem with the monitor getting power, the power light stays off and the screen, completely black flickers making a clicking noise gaining a very slight gain in brightness all the while the power light staying off.

After unplugging from the power, and disconnecting the vga connection a couple of times eventually the power light comes on and the screen works.

During use there are no issues with the picture and it works fine, it is only when the computer has been shut down and the screen off for a period of time i have this issue getting it back on.

Any help as to what it is appreciated i suspect it has come to the end of it's life as it is almost 3 years old now.

The monitor in question is a GNR, showing as a plug and play on devices and running of a gforce 8500 gt.

Thanks in advance

When i pressed the power buttong, everything turn on and working (all fans are functional, gpu power led is on, all hard drives & cd drives are functional. Hello,

Is it possible that you can test with another compatible PSU? I would strongly suggest doing so.

Also try the following steps:
?Make sure that the (internal) speaker is connected to the motherboard
?Remove all memory and attempt to boot the PC
?You should get the no memory beep errors

If the Power Supply is in working order and no beeps are present then it can be indicative of a faulty motherboard.

For troubleshooting purposes it may be a good idea to remove the components from the case and bench test to rule out a short.

Thats a power issue, simply "Hard Reset"  by removing the power cable from the laptop and then press and hold the power button for more than 20 seconds. Then wait a few seconds and turn it on simply! If it doesn't work, do it 2-3 times, for me it worked the 3rd time. After that, go to a service centre cuz then it might be a hardware issue!

Try re-seating the Ram. If that doesn't help remove the Cmos battery for a few minutes then put it back, it looks like a silver coin and should be visible near the ram.

Been trying to fix this for 2 days now. It's not a physical button but more like a lit touch pad type of thing. You barely tap it to turn on/off. It's stuck on & I have to unplug the monitor to turn it off.
I am wondering if the slight static electricity has fried something? You know like in the winter when you get static on your fingers when you touch certain things? It happened a few weeks ago as well but I fixed it somehow. Can't remember how I did it though. Any suggestions?

I'm having a problem with my computer monitor. It used to be okay but somehow the computer monitor power button is not green now, instead it's yellow, therefore there's nothing on the screen. I checked the power cable and connection to the cpu and it seems alright. I also shut down the computer and monitor and waited for a minute, the computer booted fine but when I turned on the monitor power button, it was green for a few seconds and then turned yellow.

Can somebody tell me what seems to be the problem with my monitor? And how would you suggest to fix it?
Thank you much.

A:Computer Monitor Power Button Stays Yellow

Check the cable from the monitor to the video adapter at the back of the case. Then you'll need to try another monitor. If it works the problem is inside the case. Making sure your video card if you have one is secure or trying another one would be next.

Hi, please bear with me, i've never tried something like this to troubleshoot b4.Basically, at seemingly random times, my screen goes black and i have to hit the Reset button on my Chasis to get back to normal functionality. The trick is, i never get an Event in the Event Viewer to indicate the cause of the issue - i'm inclined to believe it's either a Norton problem, or some form of Malware.I followed the listed instructions as well as i could, however, i had some issues with GMER (even when disabling AV for it), so i do not have a scan to post from that. Here is the DDS stuff, however - AV didn't seem to cause any hiccups with it, as far as i could tell, but if you need a fresh scan with AV off, just holler. I have just recently starting having a serious problem with my computer

first of all every once in a while i get the blue screen of death and the computer reboots, this didnt used to be such a problem but now recently, when the computer reboots, or if the sceen goes off for any reason,it then proceeds to go black and takes sometimes as long as 3 hours before i can get going again.

My first thought was the monitor so I hooked another one up to it and it still does the same thing, you can see it chage from a light gray to black, and the greeen power light on the monitor just flashes.

next thought was maybe a bad vga cable, so i replaced it and still the same thing

So next i replace the graphics card

I had an ATI Radeon in a pci slot, and now am runnign a evga e-gforce 8800 gts, and upgraded the power supply from the 230 watt that was in it to a 400 watt to power the card.

and this still does not work, anybody got any other ideas, i am a graphic artist who is quickly falling behind on my clients cause i cant keep my computer running

My question is if my monitor is broken or is their a way to fix it?

However, it does not show up on my tablet after the same update. Is it a screen size thing or did I do something wrong?

I have a Soyo Topaz S 24", two years old, fairly heavy use.

I was using it today, heard an almost imperceptible fizzle sound and the screen immediately went black. Sound was not substantially different that the slight sound I hear when it goes off as normal. I get no power from it whatsoever. Tried different plugs and also tried attaching it to a different CPU. No dice. Computer never has dimmed, lights never have flickered on or off. Working perfectly in all respect until today. Excellent monitor that seems to have an non TN panel (possible MVA or similar).

What do you think may have gone out and is it something you would consider DIY? If not DIY, where do you suggest repair? Soyo technical support number is not working nor can I locate their esteemed website based on info given on the back of the monitor.

I purchased from Office Max, and I unfortunately haven't seen a suitable replacement in store. Therefore repair seems most logical. I live in Houston.

Thanks in advance for you help!

You could try contacting the Office Max store that sold the monitor and see if they can suggest any place that might be able to repair it for you.

I believe my computer possibly has some type of hijacker or adware and randomly when i am on my computer the monitor will go dimmer and then when it is dim for around 3 seconds it will go totally black. The power to the monitor is still on (green). Its not power settings, and it is not a bad cable from my pc to the monitor. My graphics card also seems to be working perfect. here is my log from hijackthis.

Day before yesterday when I was trying to start my laptop, the light turned on-off continuously several times, and finally the power key light turned on but the screen was black. And yesterday the light turned on-off thrice. But after that every time I turned it, the power button light got on, but the screen was black.Present situation: On starting my laptop, the power key light is on, but the screen persists to be black, not getting on-off on it's own. I found one solution, of removing the battery as well as charger and pressing the power key for about 60 seconds. But it didn't help. Please suggest what might the problem be and solutions!!

My laptop will not charge and it will not turn on . Heres the best way to describe it... When i plug my charger into my computer the red light blinks as well as the power button. It stays on for 3 seconds then blinks and repeats this act.  I have tried holding the power button down for 15 seconds to do a hard restart and nothing happens. My screen remains black and the power button remains blinking.  Ive tried using google remedies but none of the research has helped. My lap top is in immaculate condition, i only use it for school or work so im very confused to why my screen wont turn on. it was up and running fine two weeks ago and every since ive been trying to get it to cut on and it wont budge.

I'm not sure how this happened but all of a sudden 1. The lock screen has been disabled or something. e.g shutting the lid, (Windows button + L wont do anything either. 2. when pressing the power button it sleeps the laptop but now it does nothing but if i hold it it forces it to turn off.

this is really frustrating that things like this happen to it. its only 5 months old.

Hey guys, just a shot in the dark question, but:

I put a fresh install of windows 7 64-bit on this PC I built for my sister, and everything appears to go fine. However, after updating the bios, and installing the gfx card drivers, she tells me that when she presses the power on button, she gets a blue screen, the computer reboots, and then everything is fine.

Ideas as to what that might mean? If this is too little to go on, I'll head over there asap and go through the whole process, I just want a starting point.

Thank you for your time

Small edit: the system specs of my profile are the ones for her computer.

Hello,
I have a Sony Vaio T-series laptop (model SVT13126CXS) running windows 7. As of yesterday the screen is black...it doesn't display anything.
Laptop powers on (lights are on, fan makes noise, etc.).
I was able to plug an HDMI cable from my laptop to my TV and I am able to use the laptop using my TV screen (laptop screen is still black, but displays on TV works).
And the odd twist... this is a touch screen laptop, so I am able to touch my laptop screen and it makes clicks and moves cursor on my TV. (for some reason, the track pad doesn't work while its on TV display though).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you can give me steps into diagnosing the problem, that'd be great!
I live in a small college town and there is only one computer repair shop and since it's a monopoly he rips people off. Charges $95 for a diagnostic (if you get it fixed, it goes towards the repair; if not, it's $95). Charged my friend $120 for macbook charger and it wasn't even an genuine Apple product!

I believe this problem was caused by CCleaner/Revouninstaller, that's the only thing that did changes to my system before this happens.

I tried searching for solutions on Google, and I found this guy with the exact same problem. http://www.pchelpforum.com/xf/threads/bad_system_config_info-stop-0x00000074.97674/
(Screenshot provided by him, perhaps this can help better understand my problem)

Tried System Repair/Restore and Safe Mode, none worked.
I followed up with a " Last known good config " option, but the problem is still there.

I hope to receive help soon, days without computer is torturing me. Please assist, thank you in-advance!
Edit: I really do not wish to reformat as I do not want to lose precious data. To clarify, I'm currently using another computer to post this.

Got my wife a new E-machine (i realize it is a cheaper computer but good enough for us) anyway, when it goes into the screen saver mode just a black screen if it hasn't been in screen saver very long you can just touch the mouse like you do with any other computer and it comes back on, however, if it goes into sleep mode and you leave it for say 15 or 20 min it is kind of random times it will not come back on by touching the mouse or clicking the spacebar button you have to push in the power button on the tower (just push it in and let it right back out) and then the desktop comes back up , it comes out of sleep mode. My question is ---what can I do to make it like other computers and just be able to touch the mouse no matter how much time it has been in sleep mode to get it to come back on. Please give me some idea's, thanks

Perhaps the screen but I would put my money on the gpu. Does it make any sounds when you power it on?

Also, plug a monitor into it and see if you get anything on the monitor. If you do then I'd say it was the screen that was bad.

Hey guys....
I have an old cpu its a p4 3.0 HT socket 478 865pe asus p4p800se agpx8 with 2gig ram. It was always on d/l stuff and what not. It has some parts in there that are like 5 years + old. One day when it was on the screen went black. I rebooted and got black screen at power on. So i dont even see the bios image or press del to enter set up.
I took the cpu apart and reassembled it. Cleaned and added some thermal paste to heatsink cpu. I looked at the mobo and the parts....it all looks fine.
I reconnected everything and tried with 2 video cards:
128 mb ati radeon 9800 pro and a 512mb ati 2400hd or something like that... same results. Just black screen at power on. All the fans are on and the cd player ejects/close and the lights are on for the led displays in front. So if everything is working ( fans, lights, cd player...) why am i not getting an image....??? Is it the video cards? doubtful that 2 wont work....(and they used ot work be4 both of em) Maybe its the mobo?? But it all seems to work....

Can some1 help me?!?!?!?!?!

Hello everyone!

I have a problem with my computer's monitor.
It's light is on and it seems to work but the screen stays black.
Sometimes, when I connect it, for some seconds I can get picture but the brightness is so low and the screen seems like flickering.

Changed three vga cables, tested on two laptops and my pc and still the same.
I also tried connecting the laptop with my flat screen with a hdmi cable and also on this monitor with a vga.
I chose to get picture on the tv and the monitor.Unexpectedly that worked and the screen stayed on but the problem with the brightness and the flickering wasn't fixed.

So I came to the conclusion that it's a hardware problem.
But I don't know what exactly causes the problem.
My monitor is ViewSonic VA1703wb.

Thanks for reading.
Any help appreciated!

A:PC Monitor on, Screen black!

We run off Viewsonic monitors at my work. They tend to have random problems. We have 22" monitor that was working fine, unplugged, moved to a different room and now it's tint is purplish and it won't go away. I'm pretty sure your problem is a hardware issue. If it's under warranty contact viewsonic and get it replaced.

Yesterday I had a problem where I turned my computer on and the monitor just said "No Signal" and would be black.

So I switched it from the motherboard spot to the video card slot.

I'm wondering if having it plugged into the video card will put extra stress on it and make it not run as good? And how come the other plug in doesn't work now?

Depending on your motherboard, some disable the onboard video if another card in recognized. Then some motherboards have the option of which video to use.

Hello. Because of some invalid page faults and other such problems, I reformatted my hard drive last week. I reloaded Win 98 and all applications, drivers, etc. Everything seemed to be working fine until last night, when suddenly my screen went black. The power light on the monitor remained green. I was unable to do a reboot via the ctl-alt-del method, had to use the reset button to reboot. The system came back up, all was well, had the picture back, etc. I had been running my computer for about 7 hours at that time, so I'm thinking it might be a heat problem...? Today, the same thing happened after I'd been working on my computer for about 3 hours, except this time I could do the 3-fingered salute to reboot. I tried to delete a file while using Word 2000, and, bam, the screen went black again. The computer ran fine again after the reboot for about 4 more hours before the screen went black again.
From reading other posts in this forum, it looks as if power saving might be a problem too - except the power light on the monitor remains on. I turned off the power saving this evening, anyway, just in case. (I don't know what the settings were before I reformatted the drive; it was never an issue.) I'm at a loss.
My computer is a Dell PII 333 Mhz. My video card is a Diamond Viper 770 Ultra (TNT2.) The monitor is a Dell D1226H; it is correctly identified by Win 98. The monitor is about 2 1/2 years old.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Holly

I had a new hard drive installed and I had to reinstall all of my drivers myself because the recovery cd didn't supply the information. Prior to changing the hard drive when my children would play online games they didn't have any problems. Now when ever they play any online games the monitor flickers on and off and then just stays black. If a game is loaded on my computer the screen works fine, this only happens with online games. I checked with my ISP company and there is no ping in my internet connection. I had my Norton configured by the company, I did a complete recovery on my system, reinstalled windows and updated all the drivers that would accept it. My video driver would not accept the 10/2007 update, but it took the 2005 one which is what I was running before the new hard drive. I also had a new fan installed, the one in front of the motherboard. I don't know how to check the temperature of the computer so I cannot give you that information. My monitor is a flat screen CRT 17 inch.

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 (Windows XP), and it is two years old.

The problem:

-The hard drive is running, and all four lights in the back (the ABCD lights) are green.

-However, even though the monitor light (button) is green, there is nothing on the screen; it is pitch black. I don't even get a single word on the screen; no message at all.

*There is a slight flash that appears on the screen though (when I first turn it on, and then turn off the monitor).*

- I unplugged the monitor and plugged it into a different power outlet, but still nothing on the screen.

Please help! Thank you.

Hello all,
I recently re-installed win. xp on the dell insperation 2400. Everything went find except the resoluton wouldn't change from the 480 x ...so I tried to set up my dial up but I needed a higher resolution. I did finally find a way to get that although it was very poor quality and I figured that I'd be able to down load the proper driver once on line, which I did do, although I'm not sure it was the right one, as dell doesn't seem to have anything for that model of pc. Anyway I also downloaded the Microsoft updates to get back to current for the secruity stuff. When that was done it required restart, which I did. When it restarted the monitor remained blank after the win. xp part was done loading. I know its on and that my pc is sitting there running, but I can't see anything. I restarted using F5 and tried; last known good configuration, vga mode, and safe mode. In the 1st 2 no monitor. In safemode the whole screen filled with a dos like line repeated over again to fill the whole screen, then a message came on that said, "stop!!! fatal error and I can't remember what else. Can you help? I guess I should mention that I don't have the right driver disk that came with the pc.

My Samsung Syncmaster 920nw monitor goes black when booting. At times, it will flash the initial motherboard screen for less than 1/2 second, and then may (or may not) briefly flash the Windows XP logo. It then stays black while my PC boots. Put another monitor on my pc and it works fine. Put the 920nw monitor on another computer and get the same black screen senario. That other computer works fine with a working monitor. So, it appears to be a 920nw monitor problem. Fixable, or not?

Thanks...

A:black screen monitor

You've already confirmed that monitor doesn't work with 2 different computers, so it's obvious the monitor is bad.

Considering how cheap they've gotten, buy a new monitor.

Even if that monitor was fixable, it would probably cost more to fix it than it's worth.

The model monitor you have sells for less than $100.00.

Assuming you know the monitor to be working, then this is a classic misbuild, it's time to go back to the beginning and work thorugh the build, chances are you have missed something out, or your BIOS is misconfigured.

Check that you have everything seated correctly and that all plugs are secure, try removing all items from the Mobo such as network cards etc until you have a bare system, this means unplugging all IDE devices (these can cause a POST fail) once you are down to a barebones system try booting up,

I think there is a method of holding down the INSERT or DELETE key during the POST, this can force the BIOS to load defaults.

If this still doesn't work try replacing the memory/ changing the slot and trying again and also try replacing the video card of it still fails.

If it still dont work then it may be a faulty Mobo or CPU,

If it boots at any time then add the devices one at a time until you find what causes the boot fail.

ok guys,
here is the problem ,,my friend decided to right click on his desk top and click properties
so he could change the screen resolution ,and after doing this he ended up with a black screen
with a floating box with the word ungultiges signal and under neath that it says 74.8khz and 59.0khz
with a red box a green box and a blue box floating up and down on the screen.

i have tried booting it with f8 to get it into system restore but to no avail.....i can see the screen
loading up with windows on the monitor and i can also see all the commands when i have done an f8
but when you pick an option like safe mode and wait for it to show you the next command it just
goes to a black screen with the above problem floating around...

if anyone can tell me any cure for this it will be most appreciated as i have never come across
this type of fault before!!

When you hit F8 you should see an Enable VGA Mode option further down on the list. You might try that and see if it works.

I just installed a new hard drive and added more memory. Now my monitor screen will go to black. I have to restart my computer to fix the problem, but that only works for a very short time. Is there anyone out there who can help me with this very annoying problem?

A:Monitor screen goes to black

Is the monitor screen going black actually the computer dying?

test it next time by checking the keyboard lights, the Caps Lock light should go on or off with each press of the Caps lock key. If that is not happening, the computer has died, which is the cause of the black screen.

As we are not allowed to mind read, you might like to tell what the make/model is, what sort or RAM you fitted and what Windows version?

Did you reload all the drivers when fitting the new hard drive and reinstalling Windows?

is it only happening after a period of inactivity or does it go black while you are using it?

Hi, this problem started two days ago where my monitor goes black for a brief moment randomly when connected with DVI. It works perfectly with vga. The DVI cable looks ok. I had the monitor for like a month now. Any Help ?

A:Monitor Screen Goes Black DVI

Tried a different DVI cable? Tried the monitor over DVI on another system? Tried another DVI port, if you have one? Do you have any adapters, or is it a straight-through DVI cable?

I have an odd situation that has me stumped and I would appreciate any suggestions. Last night my computer was working fine. Went to bed, left it on like normal. Got up this morning and the CPU and monitor lights were both green and normal. But the monitor only showed a black screen.

I reseated the monitor but no change. Hubby plugged the monitor into his laptop and instead of a picture got the diagnostic screen saying monitor was working check signal.

Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks!

Ok, I have a Dell Dimension 2400 running XP. Several months back I installed an Nvidia graphics card which has been working fine. Yesterday I decided to remove the 128mb video card to put it in another computer. So i UNinstalled the Nvidia graphics card drivers, etc. I then shut down my computer and moved the monitor plug in to the onboard graphics slot.
When I booted up my system, it shows windows loading screen but when windows trys to load, I only get a black screen and can only hear the sound.
So i tried removing the Nvidia graphics card out of its slot and rebooted again to no avail. I made sure the BIOS settings read *onboard video* with no luck as well.
So I found my reinstallation driver disc that dell provided me with. I tried installing it by booting via my drive and it came up with the options to install. THe problem there is it keeps saying FAIL on the screen
Oh, and I tried the boot via SAFE MODE but I get errors coming up, here is a few examples:
MULTI(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\1_intl.nls
MULTI(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\DRIVERS\ACPI.sys
MULTI(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\DRIVERS\pciide.sys

It was completely my fault for being a dork and uninstalled the Nvidia software without switching this over first and testing it :O
So if anyone could possibly help me with this problem, please let me know. It's my business computer and it's just sitting there momentarily :K

I hope someone can help me with a problem ai have with a Monitor. Until recently i had a PC with one Geforce 460 Gtx, on which I was running 2 Monitors. Both on DVI. One Benq 2450 as main Monitor and a HP 2229 as secondary. Was running fine. Now because of some other Hardware broke, i decided to get all new Hardware for the PC. The only remaining things were my Harddrives.

Now i have a Geforce 770 gtx from Zotac. After putting it all together and using the same Monitor situation, I noticed my main monitor to go black sometimes. Never the other. Because that Monitor, the Benq, had HDMI and my new graphics card as well, i tried attaching that one via HDMI. It worked for a bit, but it started again. The Monitor went black sometimes and just stayed that way. It only has a picture for a few seconds, if for example you restart the computer. For a few seconds it shows you the loadscreen of the Bios at the beginning when the monitor gets the first signal after starting the Computer. Same after loading and when the Windows logon Screen shows, but only for a few seconds, then it goes back to black. The other Monitor, the HP, works fine. On that I can only test DVI, not HDMI.

Is that problem now a Monitor problem or that of the graphics card? But if it would be a problem with the graphics card, why would it only happen with the Benq Monitor and not with the HP? Or is there a general problem with 2 graphics adapters on the Gtx 770 Series?

A:Black Screen on Monitor?

So the monitor is not affected until Windows loads? ie It doesn't blank out during POSTing ?

If so, it would be a driver issue rather than physical hardware.

I'd check out the nvidia forums to see if anyone else is having the similar issue. There may be an issue with the HDMI input and the 770 series.

Is it possible to connect both monitors via DVI?
