Solved: Error Message "Windows - No Disk"

Q: Solved: Error Message "Windows - No Disk"

I get this error message whenever I try to run iTunes or load a music CD. I cannot get it to disappear, and end up having to reboot. I have run A-Spyware & A-V software, and have cleaned my register.

I saw a solution to this in forum threads, which referred to using "Hijack This". But the solution required someone else to look at my log file, and then suggest specific actions.

Can anyone help me through this please?

Many thanks.

Also when I open up task manager the window looks funny i.e. all the tabs disappear and I cannot close it. This thing seems to be slowing down my system.

Please advise. Thanks!

First of all, i just want to let everyone know that i am not very good with computers so, please bare with me.

Here is my problem, my wife was trying to download pics from her memory card of her camera (sd card) to my computer so that she could burn the pics to a cd. My computer (Gateway GT5016H) has a slot to insert the memory card into the tower of the computer. She inserted the card, retrieved the pics and proceeded to burn them to a cd. When she was done, she shut down the computer.
Now evertime i start the compuer i get an error message pop up "windows-no disk" "there is no disk in drive. Please insert disk into drive." I also must click cancel multiple time to get rid of the error message. Gateway tech's could not help resolve the problem and told me to contact the manufacture of the sd card because they believe there is a compatability issue. I have windows XP if you need to know.

Can anyone help me.

Hi, I'm having some trouble in the GIMP, especially when opening or saving files. Going to the C: drive goes fine, but when I go to a following directory, I get the "No Disk" error message, telling me to insert a disk into "the" drive. Whichever that may be.

If that were all, it wouldn't have been a great deal. But whichever button I press in the error message, it just pops up again. And again, and again, and again... This is seriously bad for one's nerves. Of course, I tried to click very rapidly, and eventually it does stop, if you're lucky enough not to click once too many. Because chances are you click on the save or load dialog, then the message pops up, and you can start all over again! I tell you, it's only a matter of time before I have a mental breakdown.

I was actually uncertain as of in which forum to post, as I suspect this could be a Windows problem as well. You see, whenever I stick a USB stick into my computer, the drive letter assigned to it isn't the next one unused. Instead, it skips one. So perhaps my computer thinks there's one more drive - one without a disk in it - while there really isn't. That's just an idea though.

I'm using Windows XP SP2, GIMP 2.2.10 and GTK 2.8.9. Both are the latest version, and there is no mention of a "No Disk" message in GIMP's Bugzilla.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, of course!

I just began getting this error yesterday. What is the likelihood that another issue besides a failing hard drive is causing error? Secondly, I've already purchased a new hard drive as a precaution. What is the fastest/easiest way to backup/clone this drive?

Hello,

Please open an elevated command prompt.
When you have the command promt open please enter the following command:
sfc /scannow and press enter.
After the scan is 100% and the scan did repair files please restart your computer.

Please re-open an elevated command prompt and enter the following command:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

The cbs.log file will be posted on the Desktop as the current user, named sfcdetails.txt. Please attach this file in your next post.

I recently burned a couple of CDS (filled with videos and mp3s) and MADE SURE that they worked properly and were burned correctly BEFORE I deleted the videos and mp3s from my computer. Well, I burned about 5 cds. I was checking over some of the CDs and 2 of the burned CDs dont want to work. I get the following error:

"Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows"
Why am I gettin this? Im POSITIVE that the disk was burned correctly but now all of a sudden Im gettin this error. I got Windows XP SP2, Gateway Computer.

Ok, I built a PC a month ago and everything seemed find no problems of any sort. The other night I defragmented my hard drive and shut it down and turned it on today to a memory test and the message "Disk Boot Failure, Insert system Disk and press enter"

The computer has access to the XP pro w/ sp2 disk only as a boot device but it will not recognize it now.

I have set Cd-rom as 1st for boot sequence then hard drive I have no floppy drive and the bios has been configured to know that.

I am not sure if this means anything but in the bios the IDE Channel 0 Master says none and when I try to turn on auto detection it wont detect a hard drive.

The HDD is fully connected and has not been touched since I installed it a month ago.

I have this awful feeling that I fried the HDD when I defragmented it last night.

Any help would be very much appreciated. But please be simple this is my first build and my knowledge at this sort of thing is very very sketchy at best.

Hi,

Recently, an error message "Windows detected a hard disk problem" always pop ups in my monitor.

I have done "Error Checking" also " Defragmentation"...but that error message doesn't disappear.

What should I do?

Thanks a Lot.

A:Error message " Widows detected a hard disk problem"

That is not a most welcome message.

I would immediately backup the most important personal data and run the DOS version of Manufacturer's Diagnostic Utility. If it passes without any event reported, fine. But if it finds bad sectors and even if it repairs it, be wary. Not to be taken aback by any catastrophic failure that may occur unannounced, always backup all your personal data and also image your system regularly.

Yesterday when I switch on my computer, it automatic diskcheck on my E disk. I have 3 HDD, which is C: (My main partition, installed Windows on this HDD), D: is for all my game files (Installed games) and E: is for all my music, movies, game installer, software etc.

It continues to finish the process and attempt to fix the bad sector. And after that it successfully log onto Windows, so I can use it normally again.

The "File record segment xxx is unreadable" error is an indication of failing hard drive. You should backup the data from this drive before it's too late.

Next, run some diagnostic testing on the failing hard drive; most HDD manufacturers have the diagnostic software available from their website. Software from Seagate will work with most brand.

If this drive would be mine, I'd just get a new one, the drive certainly will not get better...

My computer persistantly displays this error message saying "Windows - No Disk: There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive." When I look at the My Computer screen It shows my floppy drive, my C drive, the unknown Removable Disk Drive (D:), CD drives E and F, my other internal drive (G:), my external (H:), the second partition on my internal drive (I:), a DVD drive (J:), and then finally the second unknown Removable Disk Drive (K:). I have no idea what these Removable disk drives are or how they got here but I think they are causing the problem. Windows thinks there is a disk mounted but there isnt. If it helps the applications I was using at the time of when the incident first began was Azureus, my DVD drive, Divx Player, iTunes, and maybe some more random stuff. This error message pops up whenever I open multiple programs such as iTunes and Azureus. I could REALLY use some help with this as it is starting to become very annoying!

A:Keep getting error message saying "There is no disk in the drive"

right click on my computer then manage. click on disk management and see what it specifies K:\ as. you can right click and goto properties to get a list of drives attached and maybe it'll give you more specs on this removable drive.

is is possible you installed some software from a removable disk (like a usb key) and the software you are running is looking for the source media? it's possible this new drive has nothing to do with the windows error

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

Brand new Vista user on a brand new Dell Inspiron 530.
Migrated yesterday using Laplink's PCMover (great experience), but have been getting a pop-up WIndows - No Disk error message.

I google for help and found a similiar problem here on your forums. The guy was asked to post a HiJack This log. Mine is below. I would so appreciate any help you can give me to get rid of this nuisance window....and an explanation of what it is, if possible.

Do you need the Parameters given on the error message?
I'll try to attach a "snag" of it.

Thank you,

I know this question has been asked before as I've read about it all over the Internet. In order to get rid of the 'Low Disk Space' message it says to go to the registry and locate HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer, type a new value, etc. The only problem is I don't have an Explorer key. It ends at Policies.

I've tried everything. I've tried creating the key myself, and I've tried inserting the value into the policies folder. Nothing has worked. Can anyone help?
Thank you

Greetings,

I am in desperate need for some assistance. My laptop recently has been giving this message before reaching the desktop: "A disk read error occurred. Press ctrl+alt+del to restart. I have tried restarting multiple times (including manually restarting), but I ended up receiving the same error. My operating system is Windows XP.

What can I do to approach this problem? I would be very grateful for any assistance.

Hi;
Had a sudden inability to go much further than a third or forth-level download on ANY given webpage and then PC would seize-up, requiring "cont+alt+del" in order to get freed-up. Thought perhaps I picked-up a bug of some sort during a recent google search, and went immediately to Panda and Trendmicro to perform both virus as well as malware scans. While the Panda scan was loading-up, I received the following error message....

... " DoPatch....dll reports error....Error "C:\WINNT\patch.utp"....unreadable or not a patch file..."

Was able to complete both scans. Nothing found other than tracking cookies.

I then did a file serch for the above and located it. It was installed TODAY apparently, and not by me, within minutes of the problem starting.

I'm guessing someone/thing slipped this patch into my WINNT file or modified it while I was doing the google search, so I have included a HJT scan below.

Hope this all makes sense and ties-out to something. Any help would be genuinely appreciated-
thanks
Webz

I'm pretty new at posting so I'm not sure of the best way to do this. When I start to log on to the net, whether using IE or Firefox an error message having to do with "Google" occurs immediately. (I usually use my Google bar to go directly to the site I want.) I've taken a print screen so that you can see that message directly but don't know how I should get it to you. (I'm used to emailing such things --) As I proceed I get another message which I have also copied. This one starts with the words "Assertion Failed." If I continue I usually get a "script error" message, a copy of which I do not have at this time. If I tell the message that I will proceed with going to my chosen web site, the last several times the site has come up in multiplicity, most recently it appeared 16 times, one right after another, totally out of my control, (causing I believe Foxfire to crash), and then just a bit ago, using IE, the site I logged on to came up 7 times. I really have no idea what to do about this so I'm hoping that you can help me once again.

Hello,
I'm trying to install Windows 7 64bit to HP dc7800 Ultra slim desktop PC from USB flash drive (since PC hasn't got CD/DVD drive). At the partition selection step I get message "Windows cannot copy files to this disk".
I've already googled a lot and read this forum topics, but still can't overcome this issue.

I've tried the following:
format HDD and create partition table with DISKPART via win7 disk command promt,
format HDD and create partition table with GParted (creating to primary patition: ~50 GB NTFS '"WIN7" and ~100 GB NTFS "DATA",
wipe all data from HDD writing random data,
create bootable USB flash with different tools (Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool, Novicorp WinToFlash),
memtest86+ both operating memory modules (2 x 2GB) for 6 passes,
leave only one module connected to motherboard (with each),
reset CMOS setting in 3 ways (via BIOS, removing power cable and CMOS battery, pushing CLR_CMOS button on motherboard),
set HDD as the first boot device
but nothing helped.

I've searched in BIOS for different HDD emulation modes (AHCI, IDE), but the only present setting present:
Storage -> Device Configuration -> Hard Disk (SATA0):
Emulation type: Hard Disk, None,
Multisector Transfers: 8, 16, Disabled,
Translation Mode: Off, Automatic, Bit Shift, LBA Assisted, User.

What can I do? Your help is appreciated.

UPD:
Tried removing USB flash key and refresh the partition list in partition selection menu. Didn't help.

You would do well to follow the instructions for it sounds like you have a HD on the verge of failing.

Probably just co-incidental that you just did a clean install.

After you back up run a chkdsk to check the HD status.

A- CHKDSK /R /F:

Quote:
Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt.

Do this for each hard drive on your system.

When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter.

Then reboot and let the test run.

It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors.

See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

B- Elevated Command Prompt:

Quote:
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)

At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

C-CHKDSK LogFile:

I had a fresh install of 7 and everything was working fine.
All of a sudden it starts randomly freezing and programs start responding.
I got KERNAL_PAGING_ERROR BSODs etc. and got a new disk, thinking it was that.
After cloning the new disk which didn't work, and produced loads of errors on chkdsk, I decided to do a clean install of 7.

I still keep getting "Disk boot error, insert system disk and press enter", and when it does boot, it freezes all the time and every time I click the start button, it basically crashed and is messed up.

Tried new SATA cable and ports. Any ideas?

Have you checked with the manufacturer website for the Motherboard that you have the Windows 7 drivers?

And I thought my laptop problem due to always lagging so I restart my computer.
But after that I can't read my hard disk (WD)in my computer.
It can read in computer management there.

Ways I try:
1)I try to uninstall and reinstalled again,BUT it doesn't work.
2)I try to unchecked the hide folder and device at view.
3)I try to update the software BUT it still disfunction.
4)I try to use disk management and initialized it BUT there appeared CANNOT INITIALIZED Due to I/O device error.

Any solution for me ?

The most usual cause is that the Hard Drive is beginning to fail. Back up your stuff. Go to the website of the manufacturer and test the drive.

Hi.

I am using Windows XP SP2. I just uninstalled Norton AntiVirus 2004. The uninstall would not complete, so I downloaded and ran the SymNRT program (from Symantec) to remove the program. All went well. The program advised that all Norton products had been successfully removed. Upon reboot, after I click my icon on the XP "Welcome" screen and type in my password, windows loads the desktop as normal. A few seconds later howeverm I get the following message:
"Windows - no disk Please insert disk in drive"
Clicking 'cancel' removes the message and everything appears to be fine. I did a bit of research and have already tried the following to no avail:

Clearing recent files list from QuickTime
Starting the PC in Safe Mode to see if the error comes up (it does).
Disabling SpySweeper from running at startup
Disabling ZoneAlarm from running at startup

I still get the error. I since have re-enabled ZoneAlarm and SpySweeper. I have also installed NOD32 AntiVirus. The error remains constant. It happens each time I reboot.

I notice that the log file below refers to L:\Adobe\Photoshop Elements in a couple of spots. I recently did something that caused drive letters to change. I used Drive Mapper in Partition Magic to help fix any problems and all appears to be well. My old "L:" is now "G:". A:"Windows - No disk" message at startup

This doesn't look copacetic since no file is listed, I'd check and "fix" it:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Subst] subst C: F:\

Other than that the scanlog is ok.

When did this problem begin? If recent, you might just want to try a System Restore.

The problem is occasionally due to the system trying to access some removable media which has no disk in the drive, such as a zip drive.

It can also be due to drive letters being assigned to drives that no longer exist. What exactly is on your "c:" drive?

A:Windows Startup "No Disk" Message

I don't see the "usual suspects" there, but I would suspect IPOD or Itunes, or perhaps "disk keeper"

Anyway, try doing a "clean boot" to see if it happens:

Run msconfig and select the "Services" tab. Check "Hide Microsoft Services" and then disable the rest. Also uncheck "load startup group" on the general page.

See this link for detailed information:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;310353

Now restart and test the issue at hand

If no problems, run msconfig and recheck half the disabled items on the Services tab. Test again. If the problem recurs, UNcheck half the items you just checked to narrow down the culprit.

If the problem didn't occur, check the other half, so all the Services are enabled -- proceed to do this on the startup tab as well.

Get the idea? You want to isolate the problem to a specific startup if possible.

Note: if you already have items unchecked under msconfig > startups and are in “selective” startup mode – you should note what these are before beginning. They will need to be de-selected again.

i get the "disk read error -> press cntrl alt del to restart" message. I then tried to access the backup partition through f10 only to run into this error "status : 0xc00000e9 Info : an unexpected I/O error has occurred" it seems that it cant communicate with my hard drive.

I read a few other forum posts but didnt see anyone have the 0xc00000e9 error also. Bios boot priorities are in order if that matters.

Is there a fix without having to replace the entire HD and buy a new vista installation(preinstalled w/ no disc in the box).

Im very reluctant to take it to a service center as i can very likely fix it myself (with the help of the friendly people here of course), only problem is im having a little trouble..finding.. my HD in this damn notebook.. heh, ill figure that part out. new to notebook repair.

Hi,

I have started receiving this message every time WinXP tries to install updates:

"Windows - No Disk Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c"

I believe it may have to do with my recently removing a hard drive to use in another system (without having disabled it in Device Manager first), but I don't know how to get rid of it. It is interrupting the update installation and not allowing it to complete.

Any advice will be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,
Sam

Hello, TSG!

Just yesterday I was using the computer normally until I got a Blue Screen. Getting a blue screen is usually something normal that occurs to my every so often, so I didn't mind it and rebooted the computer normally. However, I got two more blue screens within the next hour. The 3rd time rebooting, my computer starts to act strange as if it had a virus. Upon powering up the monitor would just display a black screen with two lines about something --- which I don't remember, sorry --- and stayed like that unless I plugged out the power cord or held on the power button to shut down. Then when after a few tries it boots and displays a message "Floppy Disk Failure" and "Drive 1 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-1" (and the same message for Drives 2 and 3) show up. Also it asks me to continue loading by pressing the F1 Key.

When Windows loads the first time, it displays a message saying a bunch of hardware has just been installed and ready for use. Also, my internal clock resetted itself back to Monday, November 07, 2005 (Which, if I recall, is the date when I got the computer) and my speakers do not work.

TL;DR Version
3 blue screens within a short time
Floppy disk fail
Drivers 1-3 not found: Serial ATA, SATA-1-3

Anyway, I browsed through Google but I haven't seen anyone with both problems. I disabled my Floppy Disk Drive and that message doesn't show up anymore, but the others do and my computer still isn't fixed. I ran a vir... Read more

Hi all,

Sorry to repeat a question I see a lot of instances of, but none of those seem to be addressing my problem correctly.

I have not done anything new to my computer in recent days, so this problem has caught me off guard (I see most instances of this problem come after upgrading to Windows 7, I have had Win 7 installed for a while now).

Here is a summary of my problem:
1) My computer recently got stuck on the "Starting Windows Screen." So I manually held the power button to reboot.
2) On reboot, it said there was a need to run a startup repair, which I did. Everything checked fine, except for the last one which said "System Volume on Disk is Corrupted," which it claimed to have successfully fixed.
3) After rebooting from repair, the system gets stuck on "Starting Windows Screen" for a good 10-15 minutes, after which it runs a registry check. After it completes that I get hopeful -- but the screen then gets stuck on an all black screen with just the mouse cursor and nothing more.
4) Additional note: Attempting to start the computer on "safe mode" leads safe mode startup to become stalled on "DRIVERS\CLASSPNP.SYS"
5) The lastest attempt to repair yielded this message: "Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically.

A:Stuck on "Starting Windows", Repair Shows "System Volume on Disk is Corrupted"

Hi Stan, Hopefully I can help you out....or at least lead you in the right direction. From my experience, the symptoms you are suggesting sound like perhaps a dying Hard drive.

1. Do you have the windows 7 boot disks that came with your computer or when you bought the Operating System? If so, you could try and insert one of those and boot from it, and attempt to repair the installation. (this won't affect your data, only the windows system files).

2. If that doesn't fix it, you could try a fresh reinstall of windows 7, and see if that works.

3. If neither of those work, its likely that because of the fact that when windows is repairing itself, it is generally putting copies of its system files in the same physical location on your disk. Because your disk is obviously not completely dead, ie....its still loading to the windows 7 startup screen, its just copying files to the bad sectors on your hard drive and gets stuck when loading. This is especially my guess because you said Safe mode is having same problems, even after attempting to repair. In the past, I've tried and salvage a disk by reformatting it and only leaving on partitions which do not contain the bad clusters. This takes some time, and some guess work.....and really this is only a "bandaid" fix because once the disk has bad clusters, its only a matter of time before these things give out. You wouldn't want to trust your important data on it anyways....

I hope this leads you in ... Read more

I loaned my USB flash (Imation Atom 4GB) disk to a colleague; it was working fine when I gave it to her. She could not dismount the disk from her netbook, even after everything was closed. The computer kept saying the disk was in use. After 5 minutes of this, I pulled the disk out and put it into my machine.

First, Microsoft Security Essentials found and removed “Worm:Win32/Autorun.gen!inf.

Next, I was given the message "Do you want to scan the disk for errors?" I clicked 'yes' but got a "Windows can't check the disk while it is in use. Do you want to dismount the volume first?" I click on "Force dismount" and received a message "Windows can't check the disk while it is in use. Do you want to check for hard disk errors next time you start your computer." I check the box that says “Schedule disk check,” the box automatically closes. I re-start my computer, it boots up just fine, but does not appear to do any type of disk check.

I have no problems “safely removing the disk.” I can eject it every time without fail, but every time I plug the device back into the system, I receive the “scan and fix” prompt.

When I try to format the device, I am given the message "The drive is in use. Another program or process is using this device. Do you want to format it anyway?" I click "Yes" and receive the message "Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disk utilities or programs that are using... Read more

I have:

Gigabyte - GA-MA78GM-S2H
AMD - A64 X2 5000+ 2.6 AM2 65n
Western Digital - 320G SATA - HD
Pioneer - DVD/CD writer
Kingston - 2 x 1 DDR2 667

I put everything together and it booted right off the bat. I formatted and partitioned the HD using WD's formatting program.

The board saw my drives as IDE and changed the drives from IDE to AHCI.

After the system shows the "Verifing DMI data pool" message, I get the "NTLDR is missing, Alt-Control-Delete to restart" message.

I looked on the net and found some possible fixes, but none have worked for me. I have set the bios to boot from both the HD and DVD/CD, but get the message either way. Also, this system does not have a floppy drive.

I also do not get a prompt to bood from cd which is what I need to install XP.

Looking for help...

Thanks

I use Windows XP. I installed and ran the Avast grime fighter and then found two of my programs - one for tax preparation and one for backing up to an external hard drive - won't "open". Instead, I get the error message "failed to create empty document". I uninstalled the programs then reinstalled them, but no change - I still get the message. I saw, by googling the message, that it may have something to do with a windows registry file, but I really don't understand what that is or how to get to it or how to fix it. I contacted the Avast folks and they said they could put me in touch with their microsoft folks for $180! I am at a loss as to what I should do. Please can anyone help me figure out what to do to get these programs to run? I really need the tax program especially. Thank you.

We are having some difficulty ending programs running on Windows XP Home Edition. When logging off our desktops (I have configured our home PC for the four members of our family so that each person has a user account with its own desktop), my wife and I, who have administrator accounts, routinely get an error message: ?Ending program - Socket Notification Sink,? followed by another box: ?The program is not responding?; on pressing End Now, there is often an opportunity to send an error report to Microsoft. Our children, whose accounts are non-administrative, have additional problems handing windows. Most often, when they try to close a pop-up window while connected to the internet, the screen freezes so that the mouse can be moved around but clicking on objects evokes no response; to get around this we have had to teach them to use Ctrl+Alt+Del to call up the Task Manager so that they can use its menu to log off, and start fresh by logging in again. Neither repeated restarts, nor running anti-virus (AVG Free Ed.) and anti-spyware (AVG Anti-Spyware; Ad-Aware, Spybot S & D) programs, has healed the problem.

Searches on Microsoft?s Support site have turned up no helpful results for ?Socket Notification Sink.? If the error message is generated by Windows, why would there be no documentation? Are we dealing with a worm that mimics Microsoft error boxes?

Doing Google searches for the same phrase led me to several technical forums where other people describe similar... Read more

I've seen posts (e.g., this one) about getting the error message "This file is not in a recognizable format" when trying to open files in Excel. Apparently this can occur for various reasons, but an online search didn't turn up an answer for my own situation, so I'm posting the solution I came up with.

In my case, the error message appeared when I installed Excel 2007 on the same machine as Excel 2000 and tried to open 2000. To eliminate the problem:
Close Excel.
Go to Documents and Settings > Application Data > Microsoft > Excel > XLSTART. The folder contains a PERSONAL.XLS and PERSONAL.XLSB file.
Assuming Office 2000 and Office 2007 have been installed in separate directories in Program Files:
- Move the PERSONAL.XLS file to Program Files > Microsoft Office > Office > XLStart
- Move the PERSONAL.XLSB file to Program Files > Microsoft Office 2007 (or however it's named) > Office 12 > XLSTART.
Don't just copy the files--move them. The original folder should be empty.
Restart Excel 2000.

Thanks for that, but Microsoft recommends you do not have two versions of Office installed on the same computer - then the error would not occur.

When I start I get the COMPAQ screen and it looks as if it's going to boot, but then I get this:

I have tried Boot Disk, Restore Disk, the system just doesn't seem to want to read from the disk drive either... When I do that it gives me the "Non-System disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready" message...

After I do that, it just flashes the laptop screen repeatedly and pops back up the SAME MESSAGE

Keep in mind, there are no disk installed at this time, and the only thing connected to the laptop is the AC Power Cord...

What can I do to get it to boot??

I'll even WIPE the HardDrive and reload the XP Software if need be, I just need to get around this "PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, Check Cable" message..

Hi,

I just put together a brand new haswell gaming rig and installed windows 7.
Long story short, I copied the contents of my windows 7 installation disc into an internal SATA drive (1600BEVT-22ZCT0) and installed windows onto another internal SATA drive (ST3160215AS).
My problem is that in order to access the windows installation in ST3160215AS I have to boot into 1600BEVT-22ZCT0 and then select Windows 7.
If I boot directly into ST3160215AS then I get the error message "BOOTMGR is missing".
How can I fix this and boot directly into the drive windows is installed in (ST3160215AS)?

I've tried the commands bootrec /rebuildbcd, bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /fixboot but they keep using the MBR stored in 1600BEVT-22ZCT0 without ever creating an MBR on the ST3160215AS drive.
I don't have an optical drive on the rig and the only way I can transfer information to and from the rig is by removing the 1600BEVT-22ZCT0 internal drive and connecting it to my laptop.

Sorry for the long post,
Thanks in advance for helping.

I've had this problem before, except it was almost a year ago and on a different computer. I'm getting a yellow triangle in the system tray and a message about a "critical system error". It then gives me a bs paragraph about a trojan infection and lists 3 spyware removal programs I should download. Windows Defender is useless against this, and spybot S&D can't remove the infected files.

This is in Vista 32 bit

I have a new Dell computer with windows xp operating system. My old computer was a gateway with windows xp also. The mother board on the gateway crashed and I could not find a replacement thus I purchased the new dell. I extracted the hard drive from the gateway and installed in an external drive case. All works well and I am able to retreve data from the gate way hard drive with one exception. While the hard drive was installed in the gateway I elected to make some of the folders private, ie right click on folder, click on sharing and security and clicking on private. This worked fine in the gateway but when I installed in external hard drive I am getting an "access denied" error message when trying to open with the Dell. How can this be fixed? Thanks

I've researched this but it's confusing....I get that message and then "please reinstall Microsoft XML core services 4.0 v.2 or higher"

Can someone tell me EXACTLY the process for installing that stuff? I downloaded the stuff I was told to, but it's a lot of different files, not sure where to put them, or how to install them, etc.

It would be appreciated- thanks!

A:Solved: Nero 9 giving error message: "unable to create XML parser instance"

You need not worry about "where to put them" as any installation routine will automatically put the files in the right place.
You were directed to the wrong place so delete what you downloaded from there.

Now you just need to know where to get what your PC says it needs:

For Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 SP3 go here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=15697

Just click the download button to the right of msxml.msi (the first of the three download options).
You'll end up with just one file to deal with.
Double click that file to install.

That should fix the nero error, hopefully.

My computer has just been infected by some trojans and viruses. I think I removed them all with Nod32, Superantispyware and Spyware Terminator. Things seem to be normal except when Windows starts, an error message appears "windows cannot find iexplorer.exe. Could please take a look at my HJ log? I saw the line with iexplorer.exe but don't know if it's safe to remove it.

I am trying to setup a home network through 3 computers: (A) a desktop running XP (Home), (B) a laptop running Vista (Home), and (C) a laptop running XP (Home).

I am able to share files fine between computers (A) and (B); however, when I try to connect to computer (C) from either of these computers or try connecting to either of these computers from computer (C) I get the "Network is not Accessible" error. One thing to note is that when I go to RUN and type \\IP of (A) or \\IP of (B) I am able to connect to these computers.

One last thing to note is that when I ping the IP address of computer (C) from (A) or (B) the request times out.

I have tried reading up about this but I am not getting anywhere so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for me.

In the last day or two, each time I open Google for searches, the following error message pops up

There was a problem with the provided script! 47
chrome://crossriderapp5058/content/crossriderapi.js
b is null

I simply click "OK" and it disappears, but occurs again next time I open Google.

Does anyone know what this means, and, more important, how to avoid it? Thanks.

A:Solved: Error Message re "Provided Script"

Do you use Crossrider? If not uninstall it from Program's and Features. You should also remove the Chrome extension as well: http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=113907

On bootup I receive the error message "Critical Status-the Raid 1 array needes to be duplicated to ensure data consistancy." When I try and "Duplicate Now" it starts and then I receive another error, "Duplicating error!! The array is not functional."
If I ignore the error message and continue to boot the system (XP Pro) it cotinues to boot normally. This happens every time.
My question is: Should I try on bootup to remove the Raid array and then reinstall the array to clear the problem and in doing so, would I lose or cause harm to my hard drive(s) data?

I have used Thunderbird for years without problems. Now every time I send a message I get

"An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: fed1rmimpo210 cox too many bad commands from 68.6.127.162."

I tried a couple suggestions online with that command: no luck. I called Cox tech support, but they checked the server settings and said everything was fine, and that it's TB's problem.....

Can anyone help me with this? I've even tried uninstalling and reinstalling TB.......I'm lost at this point......

No new hardware added but in the balloon the follow is shown “Lite on dvddrw LH 20A1P USB device” why?

A:Solved: error message "new hardware installed" but there isn't

do you have that device connected to your computer? if so.

I would probably start by reinstalling the device, if it's detecting it as new hardware there is probably something wrong with the driver. potentially the usb slot its connected to is also having issues.

Hello,

I encountered a problem and found a solution and just wanted to put it on the internet for posterity.

So I have a Samsung SSD 850 EVO. I'm actually running Vista 64 Ultimate but ran across a relevant thread about this seemingly hardware issue here, so....

I started with a fresh OS install on my new SSD, everything updated and working normally. I was formatting a seperate HDD using disk manager.

The computer was frozen (or maybe not and I was impatient and wanted to do something else) so I casually pressed the "reset" button

When the computer reboots, I get the "A disk read error occured Press ctl+alt+del to restart" message.

Pressing ctl+alt+del just reboots computer and the same screen comes up again.

I run the Vista repair utility on the install disk - no help. Importantly, however, the repair utility saw the Vista installation just fine (and after I ran it repeatedly it told me there were no errors). I tried doing a system restore, which it says ran successfully, but that did nothing to solve this problem.

I mess with bios settings, change disk settings from RAID (when I installed it was with an older raid drive in same SATA ports) to IDE, to ACHI - no help.

So before trying a fresh Vista install on the SSD out of desperation (before deciding SSD had gone bad), I decided to install vista on a different HD in a dual boot configuration with the intent to then attempt to view my SSD from within the second Vista installation and see... Read more

A:Samsung SSD - "A disk read error occured Press ctl alt del - SOLVED"

Did you run the RebuildBCD command including exporting the BCD to create a new one, from Step 5 of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start? That tutorial contains everything known to start the OS.

Rescue installs are interesting because of the access you get to the stranded OS and how in many cases they will configure a Dual Boot or allow you to do so with EasyBCD. Once you had your dual boot, what commands did you run exactly to remove the rescue install from it? It is likely the rescue install restored your SSD install's boot and if it was able configure a Dual Boot then I'd think RebuildBCD could have done the same.

The only reason we don't use it more as a troubleshooting method here is because it's a gambit that only sometimes works and since one has to reinstall the OS anyway, why not focus on doing a perfect Clean Reinstall Windows 7 that 95% of users don't have anyway?

My system crashed recently and I have had to restore everything. I reinstalled Outlook 2007 and was able to restore my PST file from a backup I had using the genie backup product. All my files and folders are now restored.

When I click on the send/receive button, I get this message "The operation failed. An object could not be found"

I deleted my email setup account (I'm downloading from my att account) and re set it up using the instructions on the att site. I also ran the 'repair' function off the Office CD and did the Office diagnostics.

Any suggestions?

A:Solved: Outlook 2007 wont send/receive - error message "operation failed"

Can you give us the exact message.
Are you saying you did a clean install where you formatted and partitioned the drive?
