Q: Touchsmart 320-1030: Is it 200 pin SO-DIMM or 204?!?!? Yet m...

I was trying to speed up a Touchsmart 600 Info below:
Model #: 600-1000t
Product #: AW023AV-ABA
[personal information removed]
Software Build #: 94NAv6PcA5
Service ID #: 011-610
PCBRAND: Pavilion

I search HP support and it says :
Memory: DDR3 SO-DIMM (200-pin)
Tyoe: PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333 MHz)

Of course when I google "DDR3 SO-DIMM (200-Pin) PC3-10600 i get all types of hits for HP Touchsmarts, when I remove the (200-pin) from the search criteria i get all types of 204-pin RAM Sticks.

I would tend to beleive that HP's telephone support technicians in what sounds like india don't know and they're looking it up in their data-bases. I believe the HP databases to be incorrect. The best option is to remove a stick and see exactly what the label on the Memory Stick says, and then buy bigger sticks of the same RAM as in the computer. I have 3 sticks to try, DDR3 - 1066 MHz, DDR3 - 1333MHz & DDR3-1600MHz. i think it's the

A: Touchsmart 320-1030: Is it 200 pin SO-DIMM or 204?!?!? Yet m...

Spoiler (Highlight to read) I think I'm going to go with the 204-Pin. I think the printed HP documentation is a typo and they really intended to type 204-pin. I don't think it's my memory anyway because the usage rarely goes over 25% usage of physical memory. i think the server i'm accessing is running slow...

So I want to upgrade my RAM on the 320-1030. The specs page says "Two 200-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM sockets".It also says "Supports DDR3 SO-DIMMs" and specifically "PC3 10600 (1333 MHz)" and "PC3 12800 (1600 MHz)". Yet more HP contradictions (lies?)1) The parts page lists the item pre-installed is 572293-D88, a 204-pin item. See here, here, here, here, and here.2) Using the automated systems for major RAM sellers all indicate 204-pin RAM will work on the 320-1030. Crucial.comNewegg.com What gives?!?

Hi: I do not believe there is any such thing as a 200 Pin DDR3 SODIMM, so HP's reference to that is incorrect. A DDR2 SODIMM memory module is 200 pin, and a DDR3 SODIMM is 204 pin. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SO-DIMM Paul

Hello, i have an HP Touchsmart 520-1030, and i wish to upgrade it with i3-3225 processor that i own. Tried to replace it with mine i3-2120, but pc just does not boot. Any way to upgrade bios to support ivy bridge processors? For now i have latest bios 7.12. I see the only difference between models that support ivy and not, is MB name Lavaca3SB[supports ivy] and LavacaSB[does not]. Is it the same mb and i can install Lavaca3SB's bios to mine LavacaSB board or this will not work that way?

I used a copy of windows 7 professional to wipe the system because I was giving it away. I have the operating system up but can not access the network card to access the internet. I've downloaded the drivers on the software page but get the message that the file is not compatible with the system. I see the recovery disk I can order, but was hoping to find an image of the recovery disk that I can download and burn to a disk myself. Overnight ordering still has a statement about it taking 2 days to process first. Is there another area online that I can get the recovery disk downloaded? Serial number: 3CR2160C7B Thanks in advance.

I have noticed a steady progression of either bad Dimm or Dimm slots. In the last 3-4 years as computers come to our shop I notice that people are complaining about lock-up problems and you go inside the machine and thump the ram chip and the machine will either reboot or give a hard lock-up. So my question is it bad ram contacts, bad slots or just cheap metals ? I have machines that are 8-10 years old and no ram problems at all that are still solid as a rock. The problem does not seem to be one certain manufacturer.

Greetings,  I was wondering what to look for if I wanted to upgrade my 320-1030  in terms of a motherboard and CPU? I was contemplating upgrading the CPU to an A8-3820 on the existing board, but I now am wondering if it is possible to move to a faster CPU (which I am assuming would require a new motherboard  if that is possible).

Hi nmorrisonaz,

Not sure If any malware can do that.

But please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Run Hijackthis.
Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This Do Not download it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.

Hi, I hope someone out there can shed a little light on this situation as it's doing my nut in!

We have a network with 3 Windows 2003 servers and workstations all with XP. When the users log in a script runs which maps network drives and pushes printer connections etc. Also we have several group policies set which restrict pupils and staff in certain ways. Nothing drastic though. Just 'Cant see certain Control Pannel Items etc'.

Now all was working perfectly until a couple of weeks ago 2 staff members came to me and said "I can't get on the interenet or e-mail". I had a look and when they logged in on their normal computer it seemed to log in fine but then receieved a couple of "Cannot perform this action due to restrictions on effect on this computer" messages. This message also appears when they try to click on the Internet for example. On closer inspection it has run the scripts ok because I have the shared drives and printers. But the virus scanner which is sophos in our case hasn't loaded (it comes down from the server), also there is no All Programs in the start menu, or shut down.

If I log off and check the event viewer I have event 1030 there which refers to an error with group policy.

I am totally obsessed with downloading music, but awhile ago I attemped to download an upgrade to the basic Kazaa system. Once I had fully downloaded the upgrade I went to click on Kazaa and a message popped up saying," You have uninstalled a part of Kazaa needed to run and to close and reinstall." (I believe it was called error 1030, I'm not positive though) Anyway, I uninstalled Kazaa and reinstalled several times and the same message keeps appearing.I checked to make sure I had all the needed componets to run Kazaa aswell. I can't figure out what to do. I tried other music sources but I can't find one I like as much as Kazaa. If you know what I should do please HELP!!

A:Kazaa Error 1030, any adivse?

What I would do is:

1. Use a spyware scanner to delete all the spyware that comes with the Kazaa download
2. uninstall Kazaa using the JV16 power tool
3. Do a file search for Kazaa and delete all of the files that are found.
4. Backup the registry
5. Use Jv16 power tool to clean the registry.
6. If you want to and are brave enough, do a manual search for useless Kazaa keys in the registry (be sure to have a backup if you do this)
Reinstall the latest Kazzaa with all of its Spyware. (Perhaps you might want to try Kazaa Lite)

Hello, we have recently purchased several HP Elitebook 1030 G1 notebooks. These come with Windows 10 out of the box, and no discs at all. HP seem to offer a Windows 7 recovery disc via drivers & downloads but this only seems to be for drivers and applications post-Windows 7 install. We still use Windows 7 (Enterprise x64) deploying via SCCM. As the laptop doesn't have a LAN port HP support suggested getting an HP USB-C to Ethernet adapter, but this doesn't seem to help with PXE boot. So moving onwards, I then attempted to do a manual install of Windows 7 x64 via USB. Initially it didn't even boot without turning off secure boot and turning on legacy boot. As the laptop has an M.2 ssd it is not even found by the setup process. I have now gone through adding sata and usb3 drivers via dism to boot+install wim's and also an MS hotfix for NVMe support (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2990941). Unfortunately after all this it is still not able to see the hard drive. Unless I am going blind I cannot see any information about this on HP Support. Has anyone done this on this model notebook or similar (ie M.2 ssd)? Thanks

The video card in my Pavilion h8-1030 died and I need to find a replacement. If possible, I'd like to upgrade the card at the same time to the best possible card that would work on this system, within on total $350 budget. Being overly optimistic and with a big dose of wishful thinking I had actually ordered a MSO GeForce GTX 970 , but before it arrived I read that it will not work as teh BIOS version cannot be upgraded to version 8. So I am sending that card back as soon as it arrives. I am unable to buy a whole new computer at this time, so I'm going to have to settle for a new GPU (and PSU if needed). I don't game but I do use Adobe CC 2015 applications, mostly photoshop adn lightroom but ocasionally also premiere and in-design. Before failing the old card was struggling with certian photoshop functions and video editing was slow and frustrating. This is why I would like to upgrade the GPU. Motherboard H-RS880-uATX (Aloe)Processor AMD Phenom II X6 1090TMemory 10 GBBIOS, American Megatrends Inc. 6.12 Is there a list of compatible GPUs? Thank you ever so much for your help.

A:what Video Card upgrades are possible for Pavilion h8-1030?

Hi, The version 6 BIOS in your PC is not compatible with many of the newer graphics cards.  You will need to use an older legacy graphics card in your PC.  The processor and memory in your PC are more than sufficient for most use. I suggest that you look for a NVIDIA GTX 660 for around $226 new on Amazon. You can find the GTX 660 on eBAY for a lot less.  You will also need to replace the power supply. The Corsair CX650m should be around $55 after rebate.

I noticed my wireless 1030 is acting strange after getting BSOD(not the cause of Wireless but it was solved)and now I'm experiencing some problems, here are the issue. I'm worried if it is the NIC card

1.like it takes a while to connect to a certain webpage then whenI looked up on Event viewer it stated in the lines of Google too long to respond DNS

I would have to click on

A:I'm having wireless Issues with the Intel 1030,Turning off by itself

It almost sounds like a nic driver issue. Have you updated it recently? Try to update, or roll-back if update did not work.
Replacing your nic should not be to hard depending on your device. Usually the nic is the easiest of the add-on boards to get to. But, I really don't think it's the nic. Were you changing, installing, updating anything with your hardware, operating system when this happened? If driver update/rollback doesn't work, try a system restore if feasible.

First up, hello everyone.

I have XP computers connected to a SBS2003R2 domain that is posting 1030 Userenv errors in the eventlog. I've not checked them all but three of them definitely are, so we can presume they all are.

Through Userenv.log, I've wiggled it down to two variants of:

USERENV(314.480) 21:50:37:892 ProcessGPO: CheckFilterAcess failed for <CN={C94DA5DA-A892-44ED-B77D-618A143ED5CC},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=[domainname],DC=local>. Filter not found

Followed by many of the following that correlate with the eventlog errors:

USERENV(318.868) 09:47:24:929 ProcessGPOs: GetGPOInfo failed.

My question is - whereto from here? OUs, GPO and the such is on the edge of my knowledge. It seems that if I can find what GPO is failing, I'm there.

These event just started appearing a day or two ago, but they continue to repeat every 5 minutes:

Event 1030:
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. Check the event log for possible messages previously logged by the policy engine that describes the reason for this.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Event 1058:
Windows cannot access the file gpt.ini for GPO CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=System,DC=bbpi-pdc,DC=billsblue,DC=com. The file must be present at the location <\\bbpi-pdc.billsblue.com\sysvol\bbpi-pdc.billsblue.com\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\gpt.ini>. (Windows cannot find the network path. Verify that the network path is correct and the destination computer is not busy or turned off. If Windows still cannot find the network path, contact your network administrator. ). Group Policy processing aborted.
They occur exactly every five minutes, and always in this order. I searched for the gpt.ini file it's looking for and found it.

I don't really have any group policies in place, just basic users and computers. Nothing fancy. And I'm afraid I don't quite understand AD enough to just 'experiment' until I make these error go away.

Any ideas and/or guidance would be welcome.... thanks

As per Microsoft: "This behavior may occur if the following conditions are true: your Windows XP-based computer is a member of a domain, and the Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) client is turned off (disabled). To resolve this issue, turn on (enable) the DFS client". See M314494 to find out how to do this. Also check M810907 for a hotfix.

Hello,

I'm having a strange problem. Intel released new drivers to update from version 15.11 to 16.11. I downloaded them from Intel website, ran install, success. When I go into Device Manager to check on the driver version, I see it is still 15.11. I have tried a number of things, including deleting the drivers from the Device Manager and running the install again. However, in this case Windows 8 automatically installs even older drivers, version 14, dated 2011. I'd like to try the new drivers because it takes very long for the net to comeback after I wake up my laptop. Version 15.11 was installed by Windows Update, those drivers are dated January 2014.

Hello, Wireless functionality was lost on my HP Pavillion dv7t-6c00 laptop when I upgraded to Windows 10. Here's what I have in my laptop now: Manufacturer: Intel CorporationDescription: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 1030Driver version: 15.11.0.8 I've read some support threads on this topic and it seems that this wireless card is not supported by Intel in Windows 10. I've also read that one suggestion is to replace the wireless card with an Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card. I tried to replace the wireless card prior to upgrading to Windows 10 with an Intel Advanced-N 6230 wireless card but the wireless card I purchased seemed incompatible with the laptop, as it gave me a Halted screen when I started up the laptop.  So my frustration is I would gladly and easily replace the wireless card but I can't keep purchasing cards that are incompatible with the laptop. What are my options?  Is there a specific/guarenteed HP Laptop compatible part number that I can purchase?   Even better, is there a link to where I can purchase a card that will definitely work? Thank you ver much,Chris

Hello,

I sent my computer in for repairs a while back and now the wireless card won't work. It can't find any signals unless I plug in the one from my desktop. I went to computer/properties/device manager and saw that the wireless card (Intel (R) Centrino (R) Wireless-N 1030) has a yellow "!" next to it. The properties tab says, "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)".

I have tried searching for new drivers automatically but it says they are up to date. I downloaded the latest drivers directly from Intel and tried to manually update them but it said that the drivers are up to date again. This problem occurs whenever I update my computer. I did a system restore and it worked fine for about a month, but once it updated it did the same thing again. There is no restore point to go to this time, so I'm stuck.

Anyone know what I should do?

Thanks

Hi, Your machine was built before second half of 2014 therefore the chance to upgrade wireless card is very slim to none. There is a list on pp 6 and 7 of the following manual:           http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03099448.pdf You can use USB wireless adapter, this will cost you one USB port       http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/c/technology/networking/wireless-usb-adapters     (Note: much cheaper from other countries). Regards.

This card supports 802.11n. Obviously... it's right in the name, plus device manager>network adapters>Intel Centrino>Advanced tab clearly shows n enabled.

But can anyone take a second to tell me, if you know, why when I run the command netsh wlan show drivers, "radio types supported" shows only b and g, and NOT 802.11n ??? Confusing to me.

I have a relatively new (few months) laptop of my own running Win7 x64 with an "Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030" wireless network adapter. For some reason, I have serious problems connecting to most wireless networks. On my home network there are rarely problems, but when I attempt to any other network (college, or public hotspot, or neighbor's open wireless) there are often issues.

By "issues" I mean: when I first attempt to connect to the network in question, I'm usually able to connect to the first few sites I try to access, but usually after a second or a minute or a few minutes of normal connectivity, I'm suddenly unable to access anything. The browser's response is that DNS lookup has failed; when I record an IP address (via ping-command prompt) and type it in manually after this point, the browser's response is that "##.##..." is taking too long to respond, etc..." No other program is able to connect either. I have tried setting different DNS servers but it has had no visible effect. At this point, the only thing I can do to reconnect is to either wait a long time for the connection to reestablish itself (which can take an hour or more and isn't guaranteed) or to go to Device Manager and disable and reenable the wireless adapter, which then *sometimes* allows me to reconnect for a few seconds or a minute or an hour before connectivity breaks again. When the connection fails, Windows displays the computer ... Read more

A:Unreliable connectivity - Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030

I had the same issue too. My GF's laptop has a 1030 wireless NIC and it had all sorts of issues connecting to the APs in my house. It would work fine with her Linksys wireless router and my Sprint MiFi. But had connectivity/performance problems when connecting to either of my Netgear APs (WG102 and WNDAP350) along with my PC W 620 wireless controller with AP 105 and AP 125 access points. Updating the drivers helped the problem somewhat, but we were still experiencing dropped packets or extremely high latency when connected. Upon a suggestion from one of my coworkers, I tried adjusting the performance/power settings in Windows and that seemed to have fixed the problem. The laptop has been running fine ever since.

My other PC has both SIMM and DIMM slots..
I recently switched to DIMM..

The mother board has jumpers for 3.3 or 5 volts (for the RAM)..
It has been set to 3.3 all the time I've had it, but now I want to know if that is right.
Reading the manual, it looks like that was wrong... It shows SIMM as 5 volts...
The DIMM was taken from another PC, So I haven't a clue how to find out if it's 3.3 or 5 Volts..

Did a few googles but turned up nothing.
#'s on the ram:

I have a .pdf manual, but I'm lost as to the right voltage..

Hi my PC requires DIMM memory but when I look at best buy I only see DDR DIMM memory...are those two the same? If not, how are they different and what can I do to acquire the proper memory type.

A:Ddr Dimm?

DIMM is Dual Inline Memory Module, DDR is Double Data Rate. DIMM's come in many types including SDRAM, DDR, and DDR2.

If you post your motherboard model that would be useful to determine what type and speed you need.

You should download Everest and see what it tells you about your memory: http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en&pageid=3
Look under Motherboard -> SPD.

All well cooled. Running IntelBurnTest only gets the CPU temp up to 50 deg C max.

Problem is this? built the system, installed Windows 7 successfully, all updated via Windows Update. Latest AMD drivers loaded for graphics.

It ran ok for a day or so then I started to get a problem which has got more consistent ? If I boot with both DIMMs installed, Windows gets to ?Loading Windows? then the screen (a BENQ, HDMI connected) goes black and then after a few seconds an error ?no signal? is displayed. As far as I can tell, other activity continues (HDD activity LED etc). This happens almost without fail? If I start in Safe Mode it does run Windows OK

After going through the manual for the Asus P4C800-E Deluxe I got to bring my system back up to speed. I noticed something that puzzled me to the point that I had to ask.

How come with some Brand/Model/Size of DDR DIMM's the maximum number that can be used, is less than the number of sockets that are available. No matter what the size of the chip is (256MB or 512MB). Even though they state in the specifications for this mobo that it is capable of supporting up to 4GB. (Not that I will ever need that much memory)

Q: Dimm?

Hello all,

I've found out that one of my RAM cards has fried, and want to buy a new one. However, I have no idea what DIMM is; does it matter if the DIMM for each card is different? How do you know what your DIMM is? By counting the contacts?

Also what is 'ECC' and 'non-ECC' ?

And just to make sure, the RAM has to be the same type right? Eg DDR SDRAM.

Sorry for the numerous questions, and thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have an ASUS P8P67 Deluxe MB with 4 DIMMS, I am running Win7 x64 with 4 2x2Gb sticks (16Gb total). I have been encountering an increasing number of various Memory type BSOD errors. Finally the BSOD started occurring more and more frequently so I ran Memtest86 v5. All the errors were reported between addresses 12800Mb and 13302Mb. I decided to test the sticks individually in each slot. The errors were still reported in the same address range no matter which stick I used as long as it was in slot B1, so I have 4 good sticks but 1 defective slot. Since I have 4 2x2Gb sticks can I use 3 sticks (12Gb), or just two (8Gb)? Very strange 1 slot failing after being in my PC for 2+ years and never having been touched. I don't suppose it could be fixed could it? I'm currently using A1 & A2 (8Gb) and no more BSOD, but I'd prefer more RAM since I've already got 2 more good sticks.

TIA

Norm

A:Can I use 3 DIMMS in a 4 DIMM MB

Sure, you can use three 4 GB sticks to give you 12 total.

I think you may lose dual channel capability, but that's not a major difference. 12 GB in single channel is certainly better than 8 in dual channel IF you actually use the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th GB of RAM.

Have you monitored how often you actually use more than 8 GB?

I suspect the RAM slot can be repaired, but that the cost would be prohibitive unless you know someone who would do it for you on the cheap as a personal favor. Most likely you'd be forced to buy a new motherboard.

I have a K6-III 400mhz, FIC 503va+ mothervboard 32mb Jaton video, Creative awe 64 Sound. I tried to add a 256 mb Dimm to my system and it does recognize it. No video when I boot, and fails post with beeps. The dimm slots are known good and the chipls are also. Fic says that it is compatible with the motherboard. Someone told me that it wont work because it is a double stacker dimm. I am not familiar with this term and was wondering if anyone else was. I have verified jumper settings, It is pc 100 mhz dimm. Help and Thanks!

------------------

A:256 MB Dimm incompatable?

Double stacker just refers to having chips on both sides of the stick instead of just on one side (less MB per chip, but more of them) - I've heard for years that "single stackers" were better but have never been able to tell a difference based on performance or dependability.

As for your problem, How do you know the DIMM is good? Test it in another machine? I think FIC moboards suck, but there have been the occasional good ones produced. FIC says the DIMM is compatible you say, did they take all the chip specs from you to come to that determination or did they just say 256MB should work?

Hi, i have 2 emachines l3005 (1 with xp and 1 with ubuntu), and the latter just crashed. i sent it the service center and they repalaced the mother board, but now it only recognizes half the ram (128 of a 256 mb dimm), so the OS feels too sluggish. I exchanged the modules between the two pcs, thinking maybe one was damaged, but it runs fine on the xp pc. I was thinking maybe the bios was different (since it's kinda old, maybe it was on storage and had and older version of the bios?)
The mobos on both pcs are the same (k8mc51g by First Intl. Computer Inc.-

, -http://www.fic.com.tw/product/motherboard/AMD/K8MC51G.aspx-) and so are the dimms (i exchanged them and still, one recognizes 256mb, the other- with the fresh mobo- only 128).
It can't be from the OS (i think) because on the loading screen (before loading form the hdd, where it checks ram and stuff) it ony recognizes 128.
ANy thoughts?

A:only half ram, it's not the dimm

It's possible you got a defective mobo from the shop. If it doesn't see any DIMM in the second slot, but the DIMM works in the other machine, take it back for a replacement. I'm surprised they didn't test it properly.

Have you checked if all the memory modules are properly seated?

Adding a half gig of RAM to my computer. I've got two 512 sticks already installed in sync (I don't know the technical terms), and I've got two 256 sticks I want to put in the remaining dimm slots. I just wanted to check before I go for it: will I be able to do this, add sticks of a different size and will there be any cons i.e. potential performance hit? And do I need to do anything special, or just install the sticks, turn it on and go?

Thanks in advance

A:DDR/Dimm question

If your motherboard and RAM are dual channel than the 521 + 256 should be on one side and the same order on the other two slots. If no dual channel than it dosn't matter where the sticks go. All you have to do is pop the sticks in , no other config is needed.

(Oh god, title should be 2/4 instead of 1/3, I'm not THAT bad!)

Hey TSG Dwellers,

I'm putting together a new i5 system:

MSI P67A-C45
i5 2500k
G.skill RipjawsX DDR3 1600 2x2gb

I fear my heatsink, Corsair A50, is going to clash with my RAM by about 1mm. Can I install the RAM in slots 2/4 if this is the case?

The Story:

I missed delivery on Thursday (irritating) but thankfully got it redelivered today. After ripping open the parcel with glee I discovered my OEM processor was truly OEM-tastic, and rather than just lacking a box as I'd thought there wasn't a even a heatsink (more irritating)! For some reason Intel have made the heatsink holes literally a mm or two futher apart than LGA775, so I couldn't just use my spare Zalman Jumbo-Fan (aggravating!).

Not wanting to wait until Monday, my new toys having already been delayed, I hastily took to the internet in search of Heatsinks with about an hour deadline before Saturday delivery cut off. After skim reading some pages I decided the freshly discounted Corsair A50 looked pretty reasonable, but such was my haste I didn't bother measuring anything :x

Having had a few hours reflection and contemplation (and measuring!) I fear the fan will clash, as said above, by a measly millimeter. It might work out... but if not can I install the RAM in 2/4? Otherwise, I'll have to mount the fan on the other side (possible, I think) which means it'll be blowing into the optical drive... hardly ideal.... Read more

Someone advised that I should install the 256 stick in the "first" slot because that is the fastest slot, then add the two 128s after it. All the RAM is PC 133.

OK...which is the "first" slot, and does it really matter? The thing recongizes 512 MB RAM...but I have it instralled ( L to R as I look at the board): 128/256/128. Shold I change that, and if so to what order?

A:DIMM/RAM, Where To install???

If the system boots, and there are no problems with your operating system running, the ram that you placed in the slots are ok.
Should you have any problems with your operating system, ie: Windows 98SE or ME, then you might want to check your CMOS, and see what the ram is clocked at, and if you can change any settings. If the settings are on turbo, change them to normal. This all depends on what motherboard you have, and what version of CMOS you have.
If your computer came with the book for your motherboard, all of your questions should be answered there.
Otherwise, check their web site for technical information.

I have an Asus P4S800D-E. According to the manual it will support 64mb to 1gb Dimms in any of its four Dimm sockets. There are 2 blue sockets and 2 black ones. The manual recommends using the two blue ones first, so at the moment I have one 512 card in each blue socket. XP recognizes these no problem. However, this morning I added a 1Gb Dimm to one of the black sockets and XP doesnt recognize it. I checked it from Everest too and it doesnt see any more memory.

All memory is the same brand and type (Samsung) and is in the Asus compatibility list for my motherboard.

Any suggestions?

Hi ~

I have a computer that was used just for kids to surf the net on and email and such, it's motherboard died (got that verified by a tech guy). Well I just bought 2 memory chips for it a couple of months ago and I thought I'd get another motherboard that would take this type of memory.

I can't find any in my searches (could be my fault, most likely). Can anyone help me out? I don't want a major upgrade, just something that will function... The one that died is an AMD w/ Sound Video and 800mhz CPU. A motherboard with CPU would be ideal, I'm lookin for something used... cheap... affordable... ? Any ideas on where I may find one or how to search for a specific motherboard that takes this specific type of memory? I must not be searching properly because I keep coming up with the biggest badest ones available..

Thanks for your time.

Ok, so I just bought a new motherboard, due to my chipset not working properly and it used ddr2. my new motherboard uses ddr3. I bought some new memory and it is UDIMM, not dimm on the gigabyte website. Will it still work on a GA-78LMT-S2?

A:Udimm vs dimm

DIMM is a style of memory and they have different types. UDIMM is "unbuffered" and is the most common for consumer PCs so should work in your PC.

I would be very grateful for any advice following a not very successful attempt to upgrade my RAM.

My ageing computer (2001 vintage, ASUS A7V motherboard) came with 256 Mb RAM installed and I recently got a new 512 Mb DIMM from Crucial after running their tool to determine the corrrect memory type.

I installed this in the remaining empty DIMM slot yesterday and the computer certainly recognises it now has 768 Mb RAM installed, however I cannot consistently load Windows (XP SP3) normally (usually self-reboots in a loop), though I can consistently boot to safe mode.

Once in Windows, Internet Explorer usually terminates with an error message shortly after launching though I did manage to get to Windows Update on one occasion and I grabbed the two hardware updates that were offered to me - one was a AMD Athlon CPU-related update which I thought might help, but no deal.

The 'Found New Hardware' wizard was of no help at all - sadly

Can anyone help me on what to try next - would a BIOS update be in order? The only thing I have tried so far in the bios is to set the performance from 'optimal' to 'normal' because the bios help menu suggested this as possible way to improve system stability, though I don't think this has made a difference.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance!

A:Solved: Which 2 of 4 DIMM slots should I use for RAM

Read here.

I believe you get better performance by having a 512 MB module in all 4 slots instead of having a 1 GB module in 2 slots and leaving the other 2 slots empty.

I am troubleshooting a Dell GX620 (small form) because of faulty RAM beep and number codes. I reseated both 1GB modules and still got the error. I tried one at a time in the original (DIMM 1 and DIMM 2) slots and still got the error on both. When I switched to DIMM 3 then one of the modules would work: post and boot into the OS - no problem. Now, I understand that one of these modules is probably just bad. But why would one of them work only in the DIMM 3 slot and none of the others? Are the DIMM slots bad on the system board? Thanks in advance for any help.

A:Faulty DIMM slots?

Does the other module work in DIMM3 or DIMM 4? You could just put the modules to slots 3 and 4, if they work in them. But, if your warranty's not over, you should get a new one, because of the faulty memory slots. Have you been using this computer for long? Are all the parts stock ones?

Hello,

Quick Question.

I am looking to upgrade the memory on my desktop. HP pavilion a1700n, Athlon 64 Duo-Core, 1 Gb Ram. My Desktop already has a PC@-4200 240 pin DDR2 SDRAM card.

I found, what I think will be a compatible memory card for this desktop.

A 1 Gb PC2-5200 240 pin DDR2 Dimm card.

Will this work? I understand that it(processor) will run at the lower speed of the two if they are installed together.

Thanks for your help.

Hi

I just bought a PC133, 168-pin SDRAM DIMM (128MB) for an Advent Athlon 1.1GHz, to bring the total up to 256Mb.

The stick is actually not as tall as the manufacturer-installed stick, but is the same in all other repects.

The trouble is, after installing it correctly, the system still says '128Mb RAM' - both in Control Panel-System and at start up....

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Well I recently decided to upgrade from 1gig of RAM to 2Gigs on my A7N8X-E Deluxe 2800+ ... It had 2 512Ram sticks in the first 2 slots (Which I assume means it never was running dual channel mode right?) Well I went and got a 1gig stick that matches exactly to every spec the 512 sticks have, except its one gig instead of 512. I put the 1gig stick in the #1 slot, 512 sticks in #2 and #3, but it shows i have 1536 RAM, the 3rd Dimm slot is not picking up anything at all, like its empty, except it isnt, and I know all 3 sticks of ram work just fine

Is there something Im missing thats causing the 3rd Dimm slot to not recongnize anything there? Because the PC does know it has a 3rd slot

A:PC Not Recognizing 3rd DIMM Slot?

Put the two 512MB memory modules in slots 1 & 2 leaving the 3rd slot to house the 1GB memory module. If that doesn't work, try booting the system with each memory module by itself to see if you haven't "burnt" one of the modules during the installation.

As the title suggest, my motherboard seems to have an issue reading memory. I have 2x2gb sticks and the computer will not boot unless a specific stick is in the A1 dimm slot. The computer refuses to boot if that same stick is in any other slot and when placed in the A2 slot a beep message indicating I have no memory installed occurs. The other stick seems to not work in any slot including A1 and the computer will only boot with two sticks if they're in A1, A2 but still only reads 1 stick.

This problem arose after I installed a Hyper 212+ cooler. I have read of similar issues due to the instillation being to tight and remedying it by loosing, however I loosened it and the problem still persist. I fear I might be too late and the damage has been done. I do need all 4gb to be accessible so any help or advice is welcome.

As for the memory itself, the stick that can boot with the computer reads no error, yet it still only works in that slot. The other stick I received after an rma of a previous one. I can assume the stick works fine, but I can't test it.

I have also updated my bios to the most current version.

A:Dimm & Simm compatibility

You can try it, though I know of some people who have had problems using both types at once. The only way to tell if your MB actually works with both is to try it. The odds are you will be fine but like I said it's not 100 percent but it's close. I hope this helps and doesn't further confuse you.

BTW, the absolute best way to go about this is to only have PC100 dimms. If you have slower memory mixed with the faster stuff, then it will only run the PC100 at 66mhz. I think I am right about that but I am really not an expert in hardware. If not, I am sure someone will clarify it.

Do these slots take a different kind of RAM or is something wrong with the motherboard?

I have a Gigbyte GA-7VM mobo, which I have had for about three years. In that time, I have used a variety of 128 MB and 256 MB DIMMs, as well as one 512 MB DIMM. All combinations I've tried have worked fine... UP TO THIS POINT.

Most recent stable configuration was a 512 MB DIMM in slot 0, and 2x 256 MB DIMMs in slots 1 and 2. This has been flawless for well over a year.

I decided to max out the mobo and get two more 512s to replace the 256s. I bought two 8x(64Mx8) DIMMs off of eBay and installed them. Big problems.

All the configurations I try work absolutely fine with POST testing, including the extended RAM test, and memtest says all is well no matter what. So hardware-wise, they seem to be working fine.

The problem comes when booting Win2k Pro. With ANY ONE 512 MB DIMM in slot 0, it boots and runs fine. BUT... If you have ANY 512 DIMM in EITHER of the other two slots in ADDITION to the one in slot 0, I get a variety of BSODs, from everything from page faults to not loading ntfs.sys. Always at the same place, right after the arrow cursor first displays.

The only stable configurations are any 512 in slot 0, with or without any combination of the 256s in slots 1 and 2. Oddly, putting ANY DIMM in slot 3 by itself will hang Win2k booting while it is the "KITT" blue sliding bar on the bottom.

I've tried every possible combination of speeds, drives, etc. on the BIOS to see if I can make the problem go away. Even going so far as to default to PC100, CAS3,... Read more
