Solved: Mini webpage stuck on my desktop!!!

Q: Solved: Mini webpage stuck on my desktop!!!

A while back I opened a link in OUtlook. For whatever reason - that site is now permanently a part of my desktop. I can't get rid of it and I've tried everything I can think of. It sits in the corner of the screen behind my icons.

I have Windows XP Home Version 2002. Service Pack 2

Here is Hijack this log if it helps.

Hello. I have a Yahoo! webpage stuck on my desktop. It takes up about 3/4 of the page and it cannot be moved or deleted. There is no browser bar and no "x" to close out the page. I've tried searching on how to delete this but the only thing I found did not work. I cannot find a "home link" anywhere in my programs folder. I've checked my display settings under the web tab but that didn't do anything. Any suggestions would be helpful!

I was in a webpage and chose FILE-SAVE AS to save the link to a file in My Documents. I ended up with a 2"X3" 'mini-webpage' that is STUCK on my desktop.

I went to the My Documents file and removed the actual link.

The 'mini-webpage' remains on my desktop. I cannot move it, hide it or otherwize affect its existance. However, all the links within the 'mini-webpage' work.

Any suggestions re: removal of this pesky problem?

When I try to create a shortcut on my desktop via Internet Explorer the icon comes up with no program to run it. When I choose 'select program from list' and go to internet explorer the page opens fine. I have tried clicking 'always use the selected program to open this kind of file' to make the webpage open in internet explorer automatically but it keeps coming up with the window to choose a file to open it with.

This began to happen after I removed firefox because all the links on my desktop were opening in it. Please help.

KevinK, Try the "URL File Association Fix (Restores default associations for URL - Internet shortcuts)" at the link below. Also make sure that you have Internet Explorer set as your default browser.

Hi,

Up until a few weeks ago everything seemed fine with pc. All of a sudden I couldnt get to desktop easily. Inactive desktop. I didnt realize all I had to do was change screen in Themes. I googled and found out I should vreate new logon name. So I did and this helped BUT if I shut my pc down or restart, I have ot go inot Safe Mode first, change configuration in Msconfig and restart in Normal Mode. Otherwise I have the same problem.
Plus eveything freezes, very long delays. So everytime I shut down I have to go to Safe Mode first. This apparently disables all my Services in Computer Management, so I have to reset them every time. If I dont go into Safe Mode first, it takes 25 minutes to get to my desktop, and when I do, I can get online and dont seem to be affected whne surfing, my start button and other menu options take 5 minutes to open, each!
McAfee reporst no problems. Spybot Search and Destroy reports clean and so does Lavasoft Adaware.
Here is my logfile from HJT. I hope someoine can figure this out. Thank you in advance.
Note: I installed XDrive Desktop AFTER the problem.

Hey Guys,

New to the forums, thanks for taking time to read my thread

So the metro version of IE11 on my Surface tablet is stuck on a webpage. I accidentally clicked through to one of those annoying ad pages that asks if "are you sure you want to leave this page?" (I don't know why that is even possible to program in, its incredibly annoying) Anyway, I'm stuck in a loop where it just keeps asking the question. I tried shutting IE down in task manager but it just reboots to the same page. How/should I set IE to boot to a homepage instead of last page visited? Any solutions would be very helpful.

Thanks again and Happy Holidays!

Somehow, when I converted from Win/xp to Win 7 and installed Outlook 2003, the Outlook.pst file ended up
on my desktop!
Outlook works perfectly, but when I try moving it to where I believe it should be,
"C:\Users\(my name)\appdata\local\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst", I get an error when starting Outlook".
which says it's not found on the desktop. How do I direct Outlook to go to where I have moved it?
I don't like seeing it on the desktop. It's too vulnerable to being deleted by error.

My It guru just reinstalled Skype for me, and is now somewhere far away.
I just realized that this fragment from Skype's dropdown for Tools is now stuck firmly on my desktop, and it overrides everything - or perhaps I mean it stays on top of everything I open.
Does anyone have any understanding of this, please ? - and can you advise me how to get it off the desktop ?

I often connect via RDP to my desktop. The problem now is that there is a set of redirected drives from my laptop that I normally use to connect. I cannot get rid of them and they are slowing access to "My Computer" to a crawl. I have tried disabling the drive redirection on the laptop and reconnected but they still persist. I tried deleted them from the registry, but it only deleted the names of the drives, not they just show up as "system folder".

A:Solved: Stuck redirected drives from remote desktop

I had to block the redirecting of drives from remote desktop via the local group policy of my Windows 7 machine. I can't remember the last time I used that feature anyways.

I have this laptop for about five months.

At first everything was working fine. But suddenly a problem appeared with the loading of the screen battery, no matter how long I charge it, it stays stuck at 80 percent. So I can only get 40% overall battery now...

Since one of the main reasons I bought this laptop was its long battery life, this is a big problem for me...

If anyone could suggest any fixes for this, it would be much appreciated!

I have found myself in a rather unusual situation here. I have a good, working laptop and a good, working SSD. They just hate each other.

I have a HP Mini 210-1000. Yesterday I replaced the stock HDD(Seagate Momentus 320GB) of this laptop with a SSD(Corsair Nova 60GB) and replaced the 1GB RAM with a 2 GB DDR2 RAM.

Now I started installing a 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate from a pen drive. It went smoothly. It restarted a few times. Finally got stuck on "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" screen. Stayed there for an hour and then I shut it down.

Then I tried installing 64 bit ultimate, 32 and 64 bit home basic with same results.

Then I updated the bios to the latest version.

I popped in a regular hdd with windows on it and it booted up fine.

Popped in a different samsung ssd with windows on it and it booted up fine.

I ran the setup in repair mode several times but to no avail.

Then I put the said Corsair SSD in a different laptop. It booted fine. I created user accounts and stuff and tried putting it back in the Mini. That didnt work either. I got the windows animation followed by a blank screen with a mouse pointer in the center. Nothing else.

It's midnight here and I am at my wit's end here.
Can anyone help?

A:I am stuck in installing win7 on HP Mini, weird SSD problem.

Why are you trying to install a bunch of different versions of Win7, when they are all the exact same OS's with some expensive features that can be unlocked? Which version do you own, which is printed on the COA sticker on bottom of laptop? That's the one you need.

Where did you get the ISO file and how it is it burned to disk? Refer to step 1 in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 for how to confirm and correctly burn the media.

Then work through the steps to Windows 7 Installation Failure - Overcome. Any chance it has an EFI BIOS?

OK my little brother was dumb enough to click on what looked like a cancel button on this ad that popped up that said "WARNING SPWARE DETECTED ON YOUR COMPUTER" and then it installed many things and basically screwed up my comp. I think it installed stuff like internet optimizer and wintools. Before I couldnt delete wintools and this TBPS thing from my startup but now i could by uninstalling them. The desktop background was just a blue screen with a black box in the middle that said the same things it said on the ad. After I scanned with spybot and trend micro I managed to clean up my computer a little bit. The taskmanager wasnt working before but now I fixed it but i now have a black desktop background on my computer. When i open the display properties and go to desktop, i cant click on the background box at all so i cant change my background. Also there was this thing that trend micro couldnt delete called 'thun32.dll' because it was still in use. Everything seems to be working ok (i think) besides the fact my desktop is a black screen i cant change. I may be a little vague with my problem so please bear with my nub explaining.

You hover over the "Show desktop" object in the bottom right corner and it temporary displays the desktop with an affect simulating looking through glass.

This effect seems locked inside of my skinned objects even after a reboot or by changing themes. Where objects should be solid and gradient, they have this effect over them. I highlighted the most obvious examples in the included attachment.

Any ideas?

A:[SOLVED] Show desktop 'glass effect' stuck in all themes

It honestly looks normal to me.

You can adjust the transparency of this, perhaps you did that when making a theme?

Use the default Windows 7 theme, does the "issue" remain?

hi,

Ok, this is a strange one... I was working when my system seemed to go a bit crazy, bunch of windows opened up and told me that my virus protection was not working etc.. I closed them all and ran a quick scan with Symtec to see if I had somehow picked up a virus. Decided to reboot. When I restarted the computer I had this strange circle going on. It goes thru a normal bootup, and when it is loading the tray, it starts going in a circle. Starts loading up programs and then restarts and then restarts etc. Most of the time, after 3 or 4 times it ends with just the wall paper visable. Now, at this point the computer seems ok, I can run most any program by starting them in Task Manager ( applications, new task etc...). In fact that is how I signed up for this forum and wrote the note. BUT I cannot get the desktop back. The only way is to run Windows Explorer, via task manager, then you get it back, but it does the circle thing continously. IF you can get a program started during the part of the circle where icons etc are visable, then it will run. SO, I tried doing a restore, went back one day and ran the restore. Seemed to run normally. BUT the symptoms are the same ( now it was close to midnight, so I should have gone back farther). NOW, when I tried to go and do another restore, to go back farther, the restore program runs normally, except it will not let me choose a day. Shows many possible days and the help runs etc.. the buttons "push" but nothing happens.

I'd like to build one of these, small enough to fit in a small-ish suitcase. I want a gaming machine, so I'd like it to be able to have these specs: A quad-core cpu, up to 4 GB memory, a 1 GB PCI-E video card, at least a 500 watt power supply, dvd player, 500 GB hard drive.

Anyone with any experience with something like this? I've built several of my own desktops, but never a mini, so this is new to me.

Thanks,

Hi guys,

I know the following may sound unusual but it was possible "way back when.." (circa win2k???) what I want to do is set a webpage as my desktop in much the same was that you can set a picture as the desktop...

From memory the webpage could be resized etc the same way that the picture could, but the functionality of the webpage remained accessible directly from the desktop - (similar to a widget on a smartphone) would click links etc which would then open a browser window and bring you the webpage...

Would appreciate if anyone had thoughts on it - as it would be very useful at the minute!

thanks,

Lharts

A:Is it possible to embed/set a webpage on my desktop (permanently)

This feature (Active Desktop) was discontinued in Vista where Windows Gadgets replaced some of the functionality. But Gadgets were themselves abandoned by MS because of security flaws.

If you have some experience in HTML programming you can build your own gadget that will act somewhat like Active Desktop (more info : Developing a Gadget for Windows Sidebar Part 1: The Basics (Windows) ). Other than that, you'll have to turn to 3rd party applications to replicate what you want.

Here's a link that might help (I haven't tested any of these software) :

Hi Nigel

Boot into Advanced Boot Options , and run the computer in safe mode.

In safe mode, Click on the start button, type "msconfig" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu and click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.

Click on the "Startup" tab, and uncheck everything other than the antivirus program , apply, ok, and restart the machine normally.

Let us know if it is still coming.

Greetings,

On my desktop, I have a web page (active desktop) with current stock prices which is basically a basic web page with a gif file which is updated online every 15 seconds. When I go to it in my web browser, it will actually refresh. When view it on my desktop it does not refresh. Kind of defeats the purpose for me.

I wrote a small html code for it to automatically refresh after a few seconds as well as to not cache the page but it still presents the original photo.

Any ideas on how to have the Active Desktop automatically refresh?

Please note: F5 does not work. Right clicking a blank spot of the web page on the active desktop and clicking refresh is the only way I can get it to actually refresh.

Hi to all,
I am trying to figure out how to save (create shortcut) to the desktop in Edge?
Thank you in advance for any insight!

A:How to save webpage to desktop in Edge-Windows 10

You can pin pages to start (using the three dot menu on the top right), or add to the favorites folder or favorites bar via the favorite star icon or the menu. You can't save a shortcut anywhere else with Edge at the moment - you'd still need to use IE11 for that (although assuming a shortcut is just a URL file, you should be able to open it in Edge by default for what it's worth).

I go to the yellow tile named Desktop and open it up. Now all I see is the mozilla firefox support page. No menu, no toolbar, no X in the corner to stop the thing. Nothing like : "press here to return to desktop." If I sweep it from top down then the desktop app stops.

I would do a right click on the taskbar and call up the task manager to kill the process but this is a touchpad thing and I am crippled.

I want to stop the firefox browser remove it from the taskbar and rip it out and watch it die. Where do I start?

Hello. I have an HP Stream Mini Desktop 200-010 that will not power on again after it turned itself off while it was idle.  No power light, no fan movement, no beep codes. Things I already tried: 1. I replaced the original AC power adapter with a new one. It still does not power on so we can probably rule out a defective AC adapter brick and cable. 2. Held down the power button with the AC cable and other cables unplugged from the computer to discharge the power as stated on the HP support page. It did not fix it. 3. Opened the computer up and checked all the cables inside. This is not quite like a traditional desktop PC, so the only cables I saw in there were to connect the WLAN/Bluetooth card to the antenna on the top and a small cable for the speaker for beep codes. 4. Tried 3different power outlets around the house so a faulty power outlet shouldn't be the case. Is there any other troubleshooting I can try to fix this problem? It is already outside of the 1 year warranty. Normally I would know what to do to fix a problem if it could actually power on but I feel so helpless when it can't even power on to give me beep codes or anything to work with. Thank you in advance!

After a few hours with it, though I am still setting it up... I don't see what ALL the hate is about. Some hate, sure... but it is certainly not as bad as Vista was since its actually a bit faster than Win 7 and can use Win 7 drivers so hardware compatibility isn't that big a deal. The hate is really all about the UI and of course the writing on the wall about where the OS is going.

The main problem I see is that it is really 2 OSes cobbled into one. And MS did not do a good job explaining the differences.

The start menu is replaced by the tiles interface and Windows RT OS UI (ie. the tablet OS, ie. the Xbox360 UI)

However there is a desktop tile. Hit that and you are basically back in Win7 OS land, minus the start menu. In its place is an icon that takes you back to tiles. You can right click it and get a very handy menu though. I think you can even default Win8 to logging right into the desktop tile somehow so you never have to see the tiles if you don't want to. If anyone knows how to do this, I would be glad to know.

The other big stumbling block is understanding the difference between Apps (capital A apps) and desktop applications aka legacy apps.

Starting with the desktop, its the same Win7 desktop we all know and love. It is traditional multitasking and multi-threaded and does its thing with desktop programs, services, steams games, etc. but there are also capital A Apps. I think of them like the old widgets. They also run and you can ... Read more

A:My Mini Win 8 Review as a desktop user

Rich, ( are you a drummer? )

The issue that thinking people have is not to do with the UI itself.

It is more about the direction MS is moving with win8 - taking away control and choice from the user and pushing them way MS wants them to go.

To someone who only clicks/jabs at the screen and does basic things like browsing, emailing, going on twitbook, etc - they won't notice.

Therefore it is easy for MS to lead them where MS wants them to go - and that is not a good place.

I consider myself a fairly tech savvy person, but I have a few problems that have got me pulling my short and curlies out in utter feverish frustration
Problem 1:

I was playing AD&D and other table top RPGs online in IRC chat, and utilized several programs in order to do so. I stopped over six months ago and have since removed and deleted all those programs and data. I not only used a removal tool, but also went individually into the Program Files directories where they were installed and made sure everything is gone. I've run several current up to date malware and virus checks as well. No programs are in my startup menu that would do this.

A mysterious, empty folder named "AD&D 2nd edition" appears on my desktop. If I delete it, it reappears within a few minutes, without fail.

Similarly, after every boot, a C:\ explorer window opens. Nothing in my startup menu should be doing this.
Problem 2:

Despite full virus and malware scans, Google analytics windows open by themselves while I'm browsing with Firefox. Not a multitude of them, just one, and every now again, maybe after an hour since the last one was shut down.

Thank you for your assistance, I've got this msg on instant e-mail notify so I'll get back right away.

I have a ProDesk 400 G2 Desktop Mini with an i7-6700T which I am trying to get to work with Intel AMT. But I?m not completely sure if this works since there?s a Realtek NIC and not an Intel one.According to the manual there should be an option to configure Intel AMT in the BIOS, but it?s not there. Also there?s no ?Press <ctrl-p> to configure to enter MEBx setup? or similar after BIOS post. The BIOS shows the following information: System BIOS:          N23 Ver. 02.09 08/07/2016ME Firmware Version:  11.0.0.1205 I can?t seem to find information about what the hardware requirements for Intel AMT are, besides vPro. The PCU supports vPro, but I?m starting to think that the Realtek NIC isn?t compatible. Can someone please enlighten me?

I have imaged an 800 G1 DM via SCCM with drivers - the keyboard and mouse work fine when I boot into Windows 7 for the first time. However when I image any 800 G2 with the same image and the 800 G2 drivers the keyboard and mouse do not respond in any port. Both machines have only USB 3 ports and I can see the driver files for USB3 and the KB / mouse when I connect the HDD to another machine. They do not work in safe mode either. The KB/mouse do work in the BIOS and during the initial SCCM imaging process. What could be causing this and how can I fix it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,Mark

Good afternoon, I have a mini desktop Pavillion 300-240 and im considering buying the Monitor portátil USB HP EliteDisplay S140u (G8R65AA) to use as a portable monitor. I have 3 questions: 1) eventhough its considered an empresarial product there isnt any problem in using it residencialy right? 2) i see the connection of the monitor is only by USB, but i have the DP port in the mini desktop free. Is there an HP cable to connect this monitor USB through the DP port without wasting any of the usb ports? 3) my preference would be for a portable monitor for the mini desktop that when disconnected worked as a tablet. Is there such a product in HPs portfolio? ThanksHugo Silva

Can someone confirm or deny that the EliteDesk 705 G1 desktop mini supports NVMe M.2 drives?  I've seen mention that the 800 G1 systems support NVMe drives, but not the 705 series. The quickspecs for this DM says that the M.2 is PCIe X4, but not whether the BIOS supports NVMe. (The 705 G2 DM specs clearly indicate this. I wish the 705 G1 DM specs were a little clearer.)

I sought online but it's only people reporting the problem and NOBODY giving a solution. pleas pleeeaaaase somebody help.

A:Netgear N300 WiFi USB Mini Adapter stuck detecting adapter

Power down PC...while it off remove USB wifi adapter....power on PC. When PC has finished booting up, search in the uninstall programs list for any software related Netgear and uninstall it. Reboot and start the process again.

According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

when i touch the unlock button on the screen the computer turns off/sleep state.
because when i touch the touchpad i get the screensaver.
then i can enter the camera screen by going from above to under on the screen,
and by going from under to above it turns off/sleep state.
the windows button on the keyboard and on the ipad don"t respond.
so to me it seems the unlock button doesn"t function correct and
i can"t enter the windows/desktop screen anymore.

When I print any webpage in IE10 in Windows 7, the footer contains a file path like file:///C:/Users/username/AppData/Local/Temp/Low/80S1TSTK.htm instead of the URL of the webpage I am printing. In the Page Setup settings of Print Preview I have chosen to print the URL in the footer. This started happening after I reinstalled Windows when my computer got infected.

I have tried the following but I still have the problem.

In my registry I went to the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\PageSetup and made sure the footer value is &u&b&d.

When above action did not fix it, I reset Internet Explorer ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737). The problem remains. It is still there after IE automatically updated to IE11.

Any help will be appreciated.

A:Footer of printed webpage shows local drive path instead of the webpage url

Look at the page setup in your printer options. Footer should be &u&b&d. If it is, some IE add-on you're using has created the problem.

New computer working fine. However, would like to diagnose and fix old computer with problem not found on the www:

Old HP Pavilion 8750c, with Windows 98SE, is stuck in "on" position, and nothing works. Have tried everything...power button seems inop - also, mouse and keyboard unresponsive - monitor asks "video cable connected?"

Multiple attempts to boot following insertion of power cord into socket (also with all peripherals disconnected) same result. Even tried a cd and a recovery disc trying to lure the computer into taking the bait, but sadly, the indicator light goes amber after a few spins of the disc.

Ever experience anything like this? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Hi,

Try this:

Open up the Registry editor by going to Start => Run and typing in regedit

Navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
Microsoft
Windows
CurrentVersion
Policies
System

Look for a String in the right-hand pane called Wallpaper. If it's there, probably pointing to the path to an image file, note down this path so you can delete the file later. Now right-click on Wallpaper and Delete it.

I have had an icon stuck on my desktop for a couple of months now, it was created accidently by a program that made icons with invisible text and custom shell menus. I cannot for the life of me remember what the program was called, and I did try many times to remove the icon with that program, before uninstalling it as a last resort.

Below are two images showing the icon, and its custom context shell menu.

I am new to these forums so I probably haven't provided the right information! Feel free to ask me about this problem, it would be great if anyone could solve it for me.

Thanks

I have a laptop running windows and basically the desktop and icons are mostly missing. I can find the desktop in the users folder with all the icons. In the right bottom corner on boot up it mentions in a quick box that goes away that you are using a temp desktop and that you change it and it will not stay that way and it does not save changes to it.

A:Temp Desktop Stuck

If you do a System Restore to a point prior to your problem, it will restore your desktop to that date. Hopefully, you have been doing system backups regularly. If not, you may still have old restore points due to installations and Windows update.

To run System Restore: type "system restore" without quotes in the Search Box in the Windows start menu and the program will appear above. Click on it and it will bring up the program where you can view old system backup dates and again hopefully restore to one immediately before your problem started.

So i have had some major driver issues and it looked like I needed to reinstall Nforce to my Mb. So, i went to Nvidia and downloaded nforce. During the DL, something happend (i was not at my machine when this happend) and when i came back, the unfinished DL was on my desktop. So, I tried to delete it and I got....

"Cannot delete (nforce file name): It is being used by another person or program".
Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.

Ok, no big deal so i shut down a couple programs and it did not work. I traced the path to find out what was running that was not allowing me to delete this file. I found the path and it is explorer.exe.

I booted up in Safe mode and tried to delete it and was not able too.

So, my question is... How do I get this unfinished DL off of my desktop, if shutting down explorer.exe takes me off my desktop? Simply put, how do i get this unfinished DL off of my desktop?

A:unfinished DL stuck on desktop.

Download the Pocket Killbox and run it. Select the file you want to delete, and make sure "End Explorer Shell While Killing File" is ticked and click the delete button. If this doesn't work, try the delete on reboot option, same process, and restart the computer.

Also, when I try to run it, an error box appears and sais that is not a valid Win32 application. I then opened task manager, but didin't see it running anywhere. Than I started windows in safe mode, tried to remove it, still nothing. I checked with spybot S&D, and with latest kaspersky antivirus update, scaned it, still nothing, it is stuck on my desktop, and won't move.

I have Windows XP and I've been experiencing a strange computer problem. I recently did a fresh format thinking this would fix the issue. Well it didn't so I'm guessing this is an hardware issue with one of my hard drives. My primary hard drive does make sounds when booting up.

The issue:
I turn the computer on and it gets stuck when it gets to the desktop. It seems to try loading programs to run in the background but they can't load. My computer doesn't freeze up but I can't open any programs, folder or anything. So I do a Ctrl-Alt-Delete, go to Shut Down and log off. Then I get an explorer.exe error so I have click End Now. Then log in and everything is fine. This is the only fix I was able to find and I'm an ex-computer technician so it's not like I'm a beginner.

I'm pretty sure this issue has caused a lot of the other problems I had before I did a format so I would hate to leave my computer like this. I had a lot of currupted files that crashed my DVD burning software and Yahoo Instant Messenger. I'm about to start DJing for an internet radio station and I can't keep formatting. PLEASE HELP!!

First let me mention what I have:
Windows 7 Home premium on a newly installed hard drive inside a Toshiba laptop satellite P755-S5215. Has about 300 gb harddrive with 6 gb ram, 64 bit operating system.

Had a computer tech put this together for me with a supposed 1 year warranty, which he doesn't seem to be too helpful about.
We have had up until very recently a very poor wireless connection, but the kids have managed to play internet games like club penquin. The laptop was sticking while on line and our tech said our connection was the problem. So we decided to pay the extra and get our 7 mbps connection in our home. This seemed to help much, except now the laptop hangs off line just as soon as we log onto the desktop. Forget about getting to the firefox icon, the cursor is usually unmovable before we even get there.

Would someone please let me know if we have to take this back to our uncooperative tech for a hardware issue or is there something we can do?

A:Hangup (stuck) at desktop

Try doing a Clean Boot, if this works then try adding one startup item at a time until the computer Sticks. Then you will know the the trouble some application.

I use my Dell XPS 410 all day everyday and of course now I'm on my back-up machine across the room.

The machine is running system DXP061 and is 4 or 5 years old if i remember right.

Today, when i came into the office and started to go to work, the cursor is frozen in the center of the screen. I ran down and bought a new mouse (i used a wired one) but the new mouse didn't help.

The past few months every few days when i am working in gmail and highlight my signature to backspace and remove it, it will cause the computer screen to freeze and eventually do black with a small message that something went wrong, and i have to turn it off manually and am fine when i restart. Plus i get numerous Chrome Browser popup messages about using too much memory.

I had been thinking i might should use System Restore to factory settings to clean things up, but i put it off because of all the things i have stored. But they aren't terribly important. So i may do that. How can i get my cursor unstuck?

Thanks in advance

Also, when i restart in Safe mode and click F12 i can go to the screen that shows Express Test / Extended Test / Custom Test / Symptom Test and there (except when testing) my cursor will work just fine and dandy. But when i leave that area, it's stuck again.

Hi all,

I have a Sony Vaio, and cannot get the desktop background to show on anything other than 'Fill'. Even if I select 'Centre', or any of the other options, the theme is still shown in the 'Fill' format.

I tried the HP .exe to cure the problem with 'Stretch', but that didn't make a difference.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Doesn't anyone else have this problem? I'm using Aero themes, if it makes a difference

I just came back from a 10 day vacation, and when I tried turning on my desktop for the first time upon returning, it gets stuck on the BIOS screen for about a minute, then the screen goes black. I can't use any of the BIOS functions. The HDD activity light blinks a couple times right before it hits the BIOS, then stops completely. I was having no problems whatsoever before leaving for my trip.

I do have two kittens at my house who are all over everything, and according to my friend who was looking after them, they did turn on my PC a few times while climbing over it. I did make most of the cables inaccessible, and aside from turning it on and walking on my keyboard, I doubt that they were able to do anything really harmful.

What I've tried so far:
-Un-plugged everything from computer, tried to boot with just monitor and kb/m connected
-Cleared the CMOS on the mobo
-Re-Seated the RAM
-Cleaned out the case thoroughly, made sure everything was properly connected

Neither Delete, or any of the function keys work in the BIOS screen. I'm thinking that this may be a hardware problem, either the motherboard has pooped out, or something else. I really don't know....

Check my system specs for the hardware details.

Any suggestions?

You should have removed and stored the power cable while you were gone and covered the keyboard.

Just use the image that I just know you created to reimage/reinstall windows.

LOL my Berp likes to sit right in front of my monitor and tries to swat at the arrow....Bad Berp

I want to remotely operate my work PC from my home PC but I have a number of hurdles in my way. My home PC is running Windows XP Home addition and my work PC is running XP Pro. I see on my home PC there is a facility in windows/programmes/ accessories/ remote desktop connection to achieve this but I read I have to forward the port on my router at work to achieve this. I don't know how to do this . Also I don't know how to find the correct IP address of my work PC. I found what appears to be an IP address in Windows Live Sync (which is what I use at present) but not sure if this is the actual IP address of my work PC or not. The work router is a Zyxcel ADSL modem router and it connects to my PC via a seperate ethernet switch.
Any pointers much aoppreciated!
