I have XP Pro with all updates lately it has problems starting and often it has the Title bar at the bottom blacked out so I have to try to start by pressing reset but it's still a problem.

Tried;

(1) Using the SFC /scannow program to check files and locations - Hasn't improved situation.

(2) Have tried booting from Windows XP Pro CD - Press any key > F2 > Windows Set-up > Loads files > Start Windows.

(3) Repair Windows > Press R > Tries to Log-on and asks for Admin Password.

I don't recall ever using/designating an Admin Password...Is it likely to be a generic Password?? - I've tried 'Admin' and a couple of other Passwords that I regularly use but NO-GO.

So now I'm here asking...Begging if you like for some help:-(

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I did a clean install of XP pro and am the sole user with a user account password. Upon installing the recovery console it asks me for the administrator's password. When I enter my user account password it, it says it is the wrong password. I'm I to assume that the password that I'm entering on boot up is not the same as the 'administrator password for the recovery console? What am I doing wrong? How do I put a administrator password in so I can get into the recovery console?? Any help is appreciated. Please reply to:

A:XP's recovery console admin password help

it is not the same
even if u are the only user and u have admin rights, there is still an ccount called 'administrator' and this is hidden unless u restart into safe mode or manually type in user: 'administrator'
the password is therefore different then your username password (unless during the setup u entered the same password as u did for your username)

if u didnt put any 'administrator' password, try just pressing 'enter' when asked in recovery console but remember dont put your username there but 'administrator' in the 'user' field

i have a friend using win2000 pro who can't access the default admin account, and there are no other admin accounts on the comp.
another friend she was told the following to delete the default password, i'm just checking this info is accurate, thanks.

"Did you keep your root partition/drive as a FAT32/16 area? If you did the solution is easy. Get any Windows9x boot disk and boot up to it, then CD to X:\WINNT\system32\config and delete SAM (no extension), SAM.SAV, and SAM.LOG. The SAM without an extension is actually an exe file. Those three files control the usernames and passwords. Delete them, reboot, and there will be NO admin password to worry about. Recreate users as before and this time keep the admin password"

Try just pressing Enter when prompted for the password. If no password has been set you will (or should) be set to go.

If you have any idea how to rectify this, please tell me how.

I am trying to do a windows xp repair installation and it is asking for an administrator password. The person who owns the computer and who set it up said she never had a password.

Is there a way around this?

I can not get to a dos prompt. If I try to boot off the hard drive I get NTLDR missing. If I boot from the OS cd I get sent to the installation & setup routine.

She has not backed up her data so I don't want to risk losing it. Suggestions?

A tech replaced her motherboard recently, she was able to use it for a few days before it started powering down again. Dell sent a replacement fan and I replaced it. She had been getting the NTLDR message before bringing the machine to me, so it's not something I caused. It also isn't likely the other repair tech didn't connect something because it worked for her for a few days after he was in there. (It's a laptop so I'm not eager to rip it apart if I don't have to).

Thanks for suggestions.

I _need_ to format my WinXP machine, so I boot from the XP CD, and go to the recovery console-- but it asks for an administrator password. I'm the admin my on XP install, but I never set a password for anything, at all.

When trying to boot into safe mode, the machine stops while trying to load agp440.sys

I want to disable the loading of this file in the recovery console, following these instructions:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;324764

Now I am asked for an administrator password. As far as I know, there is no admin password on this machine, but just hitting ENTER does not do the trick.

How do I bypass the password?

I was trying to get into the recovery console on the XP install CD and it asked me for the admin password. I don't recall setting a password while installing XP but if I did I know for certain what I used. But that one does not work.

I then booted normally and made sure that my administrator logon password was the same as the one I would have used while installing XP.

Then I tried again to get into the recovery console and again it does not recognize my password.

Is there a default password for XP home that is used if one does not set a password?

A:[SOLVED] admin password for recovery console

if you never did set up an administrative password, then just press enter. If that does not work, then unfortunately according to the rules we cannot help you bypass a password since it would seem there was one installed at one time.

I have accidentally locked my admind password using "net user" commands in command prompt. problem is I'm not sure what i changed it to.

I only have Guest Priveleges on my PC.
I deleted my other admin account, so my only admin account is locked.

I read somewhere about burning a boot disk (to reset the admin account password), but I'm looking for a different alternative. Does anyone got any help?

That might be my only option, but I hope not.

If you know much about recovery disc, I think you will know recovery disc is the best choice for Windows 7 admin password reset besides another administrator. The recovery disc includes password reset disk and system recovery disc. Password reset disk is easy to create before Windows 7 locked. While if you want to create password reset disk after you couldn?t log on to Windows 7, you have to ask for help from third-party software. For example, Windows Password Genius is conceivable option. System recovery disc can be instead of installation disc, if you have back up your Windows 7 Home Premium. But if you have not done that, it doesn?t matter. System recovery disc also could be created after you are unable to boot your Windows 7, as long as you find a computer with same Windows operational system. You have to create system recovery disc on it. For example, 64-bit System Repair Disc can only be created on a 64-bit Windows 7. You can check the properties about computer through Control Panel ? System and Security ? System, or right click the Computer and choose Properties. Now let?s see how recovery disc reset Windows 7 Home Premium admin password.1. Password reset disk reset Windows 7 admin password2. System recovery disc reset Windows 7 admin password 1. So I boot up Windows (XP Pro SP2) and after the loading screen, I get a black screen. I've googled the problem and can't find a way to fix it without using the recovery console. The problem is, as far as I remember, my Admin password is blank. However, when I press enter at the prompt without typing anything, it says I have the wrong password, so it's probably something else that I don't remember.

What I need is either another way to fix the black screen without recovery console, or a way to find or change the admin password.

I have a separate hard drive I can use as an alternate Windows install, so I can get into the HD of my original install, but can't access the original Windows.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

For some reason my wireless internet connection deleted itself :s So i decided to do a system restore back to a previous point. This was successful and the wireless connection was setup again. However the same problem occured. when i attempted to do another system restore, the computer failed to boot. It turns on ok, but with a black screen showing a msg which says "initiating" some process, (sorry i forgot, ill post what it keeps saying when i get back home to the broken pc. )

The real problem i have now is when i went to my boot options, to do somthing like a reinstall, it asked for my admin password. This is normally no problem, but for some reason its not accepting my password, saying its invalid! I'm not sure if some virus has somehow changed my Admin password, because i am positive i am typing in the correct password!

I am locked out of my pc, unable to do any reinstall or anything Is there anyway i can restore my pc without losing the data? Even if i end up having to take it to some kind of pc repair shop, that would be preferable as there are some invaluable photos, documents etc. However i am a bit reluctant to give it over to someone else to repair it as the pc also some of my bank account details on there.

Is there any solution? Thanks in advance

Hi Yet again, Windows is frustratingly taking up all of my time and I have tried everything google has to offer to try and fix it but it seems like no one has screwed up as much as I have on whatever forum. Let me explain the problem: I'm trying to set my account to administrator because I can't install programs, change account settings, make any changes through CMD without getting the system error 5 access denied message and I can't set the administrator account through CMD either. I also don't have the permission to change anything in regedit and I can't even reset my pc because it requires an administrator password which I don't have, is not "nothing" nor is it administrator or admin or password and I can't change it through cmd either. I can't even access the administrator account because it is disabled and even with an elevated cmd I can't activate the "hidden" administrator account. I've ran malwarebytes and superantispyware and I am now looking for the Gandalf of all Geeks to help me solve this problem. I'd immensely appreciate it!

The firm in which I work has a Lenovo PC with Windows 10 installed. There are two user profiles on the computer, the admin and another normal account without administration rights. We have only the password of the account without administrator rights.

The network administrator had left the company surprisingly in without giving the administrator password of the PC and we cannot contact him anymore.

Now we want to install another programme and we cannot do this without an administrator account.

I disabled secure boot and have tried to boot the PC with an Linux USB Stick, but it do not boot from the stick.

Any suggestion how I either can reset the password of the administrator account or create an new account with administrator rights.

Although there may be techniques to recover a lost password it is forum policy that we do not discuss these here - your best bet would be to visit a local security specialist and get them to recover/reset it for you - and a change to the policy for the replacement admin may be a good idea, I always wrote a list of all passwords and stored it with the Managing Director and also in a fireproof safe

Hello,

I bought a laptop about a year ago. Shortly after buying it, we lost the password before making a backup disk. I couldn't change the password, we run Windows 7, without the old password. Luckily, or so we think, we have one of those laptops that has a fingerprint scanner so I have been able to log on using my fingerprint as a password. However, I can't believe that I am locked out of changing the passwords on this computer.

I have learned my lesson! Always back it up first! But for now, I need some help. I am also a little worried that I may have been hacked into. A friend said that if your password all of a sudden doesn't work, that is a sign of a hacker. That is what it felt like happened to me. I swear I thought I had the password right, then all of a sudden it stops working.

Thanks so much-Bill

So, I installed Windows 10 last week. Yesterday I explored a bit and discovered Windows Edge, their new email/ outlook client. I attached my personal Gmail address to the service as well as my corporate address. My corporate account required me to create a new password that fit my company's security standards, which I did, but, after feeling like my company address was restricting how I use my personal home computer, I removed that address. Here's where I get fuzzy, I cannot, for the life of me remember, if I changed my password back to one that didn't conform to my company's security standards or if I left it alone. All I know is that once my computer locked later that night, I was unable to get back in. I've tried every permutation of every password, including that corporate password, I've ever used with no success.

I do not have a password reset disk nor do I have a system repair disk with which to reinstall Windows 10.

So, how screwed am I? Will I have to reinstall Windows 7, the last OS I have a disk for, and hope I can reupgrade to Windows 10?

P.S.
I did not attach my MSN email address (aka my Microsoft Account) to my computer, so resetting my password that way is a no go.

having issues with playing a number of games under win 7 so I thought I could use the boot earlier version option when the computer first starts. I select this choice hoping to get an XP sp3 install I had earlier start up. After a few moments you get a prompt for an admin password. I tried blank (or nul or whatever you want to call it). NADA. Then I tried a password that I figured was the choice. NADA. Tried the word "admin". Still NADA. I do not recall ever setting anything so what could it be or how do I fix this? I can try ophcrack if that is a solution. Along this topic however it only shows 1 choice for the OS and that is one located at c:\windows. To me this sounds like Win 7 so maybe I really only have the one OS?

So, this is probably something you get every day. but I think it's different.
My friend's mom put a password on his computer which stops him from running programs of the downloaded variety.
Where the problem arises is fairly obvious. He can't run ANYTHING which has been downloaded, making his computer essentially a potato. Is there a way past this? Is there a way to remove this password, restoring his computer back to a usable state?

I am running a new thread due to not being able to continue the one I had for reasons of security. Thanks for the help concerning this issue. I am not sure if all is understood on what I am trying to achieve by asking for help. My dilemma is this. I know how to set up a password by going into my setup, I also know how to delete my password. I know how to reset my Bios and on and on and on. What I am saying is, no matter what I do weather it is to use a password or not the system fails me. I had entered a password when I installed my OS. Later down the road I was going to do a repair, when asked to enter said password I got "entered wrong password". I went back in and made some adjustments and tried again, this time WITHOUT a password after just hitting enter, again with the "did not enter valid password". Now that all that has been cleared up. My question was this, now remember I am not asking you how to do anything that would take me into the box and make any changes, I am asking what may be WRONG with my system that would prevent it from recognizing my password. Thanks again for all your help in this matter. (Why wont it recognize said password) This is all I am asking.

I have yet to use a password when doing an install. The main reason is because I usually forget the password. The only problem with that is any time I have had to do a repair and I am asked for my Admin Password I would hit enter and get the password is not valid. I then go into setup and enter a password, go back out reboot hit R for repair and again I am asked to enter my password, which I do and again am told not a valid password. I am really glad I do not have access to a freaking hammer at that point in time. Help is need here people. I don't really like to have to do a complete install each and everytime, Thanks

This may have been asked but the server won't let me search.

When the tech guy setup up my computer he probably asked me for an admin's password. I can't remember what I told him and nothing I try works.

I'm the only user and my user account doesn't seem to have a password when I log on. But to use the admin, which someday I surely will I don't have a pw and the program says a blank won't do.

If you know of a method or program that will retrieve it I will really appreciate learning about it.

Thanks,

Bob

My question is how can I resolve this problem without spending a lot of money? it is an older computer so I do not want to spend money on it but it was a very good computer so I would like to keep it working, it is a Paradigit performer P318.

Ideally I want to take it back to factory settings and start again but how do I do this without a disc and the recovery F10 not working???

Lets say you're the admin of the computer, then you'd like to set you're password, does the password get lost if your computer gets reformat? meaning, when this happens,no matter if you type the password at the log-in page, the password woudnt work the next time you log-in? or does the settings you made go back to default allowing you to access your computer

A:Admin Password

Everythime I or a friend has to reformat and start again, the old paswords don't work, and we are forced to use new ones. I would imagine that the bios passwords remain as the bios doesn't get wiped.

I deleted a user account on my computer and now I can't get into some of my programs or system restore because it says I am not an administrator! And I don't know the admin password as it belonged to a previous owner and they are unavailable. When I boot up my pc I have to do the control, alt, delete thing and then I put in the password I've been using but it still locks me out of all kinds of stuff. And when I open up internet explorer I get an information bar that says my security settings are putting my computer at risk and to click here to change them. I checked all the settings and they are as they have always been and I have run McAfee several times and it says everything is ok. Can we somehow add me as admin or bypass that completely or even just get into system restore??? Please help!

A:No admin password

try booting into safe mode by pressing F8 during the initial startup. By default, Windows has a hidden Administrator account with no password. If the machine was owned by someone with a little tiny bit of knowledge, they would have booted into safe mode and set the default Administrator password (which everyone should do), and you will know that you need to take the computer to a local store or support center.

You will have to do one of two things. You will either have to contact the administrator where you work and have them remove that password or, you will have to completely wipe the operating system and reinstall.
