Browser closes when opening certain sites/pages

Q: Browser closes when opening certain sites/pages

When searching for answers to my problem, I ran across this thread on this forum from 5/18/05: Multiple issues - Homepage hijack, popups, IE browser closes, blue screen. A moderator went through quite a bit of instructions to fix that problem.

I was wondering if those instructions would work in most cases of similar problems, like mine.

An example of what's happening is Internet Explorer 6 and Netscape 8, both close when I enter my password on ebay and hit ok. I can sign in with Firefox 1.0.4, but when I try to download Turbo Lister, FF closes.

All three close when I try to reach www.marine-atlantic.ca. It starts to load, then BAM! It's gone.

When trying to access Panda to do a scan, all three close when I hit the scan button.

There are numerous other sites that do the same thing. A lot close when I try to enter password protected sites (that I am registered with).

A Trend Micro Housecall scan found nothing.

Ditto for McAfee, MS Ativiru, AdAware SE and Spybot.

Win XP Home SP1
P4 2.2
768 megs ram
McAfee Virus Online Subscription

All assistance is greatly appreciated.

We are running Windows XP.When I start up my account on my computer, I get an error saying Google Installer encountered a problem and had to close. If we go into firefox, and type in a page, the browser often reroutes to another page, such as hxxp://www.physicos.com/search.phpWhen i start up firefox i get a message that asks if i want to make it my default browser. it always was and this is something the bug changed. even if i click yes it asks next time i start firefox.Eventually the browser freezes and the mouse moves around but we can't click anything and have to shut down the computer. I typed most of this from safe mode.If we try to use Internet Explorer (not our usual practice) it simply shuts down after you surf off the homepage. My husband has seen some popups on his account, and the bug installed a bunch of dirty icons on our desktop....THANK YOU TO WHOMEVER HELPS. Hello dreygenfli Welcome to the BC HijackThis Log and Analysis forum. I will be assisting you in cleaning up your system.I ask that you refrain from running tools other than those we suggest while we are cleaning up your computer. The reason for this is so we know what is going on with the machine at any time. Some programs can interfere with others and hamper the recovery process. In the upper right hand corner of the topic you will see a button called Options. If you click on this in the drop-down menu you can choose Track this topic. By doing this and then choosing Immediate E-Mail notification and then clicking on Proceed you will be advised when we respond the your topic and facilitate the cleaning of your machine. Please keep in mind that we have a large backlog of users just like yourself waiting to be helped so try to be as timely as possible in your replies. Since we do this on a part-time voluntary basis we are limited on how many logs we can respond to and keep open due to time restraints. Hey Guys,

I'm using the latest version of Firefox, I've encountered a problem which I can't take anymore. When surfing the net for example: start from my home page (page 1), click on to this site (page 2), then I'll click a sub forum (page 3). Once I click back on the browser it goes from (page 3) to (page 1) skipping (page 2). This happens around 50-60% of the time. Or if I have 2 windows open and again if I click back on one browser it will terminate both windows.

This is becoming very annoying, and making it very hard to surf.

I've ran my anti-virus program (AVG), many spyware and adware programs and everything comes back clean. I tried a different browser "Opera" and it also skips pages back as well.

I've searched for info regarding this on google and came up with nothing.

Any help would be great!!
Thanks,
Anthony

A:Browser skips or closes pages when using the back button

This could be quite normal operation (depending on the web pages you are viewing)

ie Some sites will ONLY allow you to go back to the Main Page when clicking on the Back button (usually to do with Javascripting)

As a good measure, default all settings in Internet Security and any web browser.
But again I think it may be Normal.

I have IE and Mozilla. Both close when opening certain webpages like my work email through a webpage. (LotusNotes) or when I try to open my webcam homepage at home for my cam at work. Is it the browsers? Or maybe Java? I've been reading and reading but havn't found anything that has helped.

A:Browser closes when opening certain webpages

Go to http://www.merijn.org/files/HijackThis.exe and download 'Hijack This!'.
make sure it is placed into it's own folder, not a temporary folder. Then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe.
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log (in the security section)
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

If Merijn.org is still down due to the DDOS attack on it, the alternative download sites for Hijackthis are:

This happened to me yesterday and after doing some scans managed to fix it. However today i've done several scans - kaspersky, ewido, panda, it's still not fixed. What's more worrying is the same has happened to 2 other computers on the lan.

It's redirecting my Google pages to the said sites, and Blue Coat K9 Web Protection has been blocking it. It may have been caught when I downloaded something off Limewire, or came across a designer bag reproduction site while looking for a new bag. Every so often my computer will slow down while using internet, shut down and flash it's blue screen, mentioning a " Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"
Also the internet has not always been functioning, and I've been having to refresh pages, sephora.com in particular, that also may be a source.
I'll restart after that, then the computer will say "it has recovered from a serious error, report?" and I will, which has happened many times. After a power outage today, it started to say an error with connection with the report, which I will quote after it happens once again.
I scanned using DDS , if the files are needed, I have the main DDS file and Addon file if they are needed.

If this fails to work, I'm going to pull the nuclear option and do a System Restore on my computer. As I've just gotten it back, the only thing I lose is the time in downloading my games/updates/drivers back on it as I've had it back for less than a week.

I have been having trouble on a new netbook I just bought recently.

It is an Acer AspireONE:

Intel Atom @ 1.6ghz
1gb RAM
XP Home Edition SP3

When I try to search on google or any other site, it redirects me to several differents sites, or these sites just open up in a new tab.
I am using Mozillas Firefox and I am using COMODO as my virus protection, with a recently installed Ad-Aware, for my spyware. (ad-aware installed after problem).

I have downloaded hijack this, stopzilla and registry booster, but have not installed them yet.

Please, please show me what I need to do to fix this problem and how to make sure it does not happen again.

Thank You Very Much,

Ben

My Firefox has been opening to (seemingly) random sites. I've also had Spybot and AVG detect and eliminate multiple threats in the last few days. The worst was when a program disguised as an anti-Spyware program appeared in my taskbar and tried to get me to buy a retail version. But that program has not reappeared since I did a couple of more cleanings with AVG and SpyBot.

Hi,

When starting Internet Explorer 8, I can open a few pages, then it stops opening after a few minutes. Example, my home page is Yahoo.com. I can open IE8 and view Yahoo home page. I can click on the news section and read a few different articles, then it stops after opening a few. I do not get an error message, and the page stays on the current page/last article that did open, but won't open anything else that I try to read. It looks like it is trying to change the page, but then stops trying.

When I close the browser (click the X top right corner) and try to run Window Washer, it states that the browser is running. When I try to close the browser and clean using Window Washer, Window Washer will then freeze up. I also use Slim Cleaner. When I run it, same response......browser is running. I try to close it through Slim Cleaner, then it appears to close and clean as normal. However, if I immediately reclean with Slim Cleaner, same response, browser is running.

If I shut down the computer and restart, I can run Window Washer without it stating browser is running. Same with Slim Cleaner. So, it appears the problem occurs upon opening IE8, not upon start up.

I've updated all anti-virus and programs. I ran all programs 3 times in safe mode. Ad-Aware found mywebsearch, and seems like it did delete it. 2 more scans came back clean. Exterminate it! found 2 different problems, one on the first scan and one on the second scan. The third scan found n... Read more

I would recommend not using software that states that it can boost PC Performance such as Windows Washer, Slim Cleaner, and Advanced System Care per the following:Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons:? Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. It contains information and settings for all hardware, software, users, and preferences. Whenever a user makes changes to settings, file associations, system policies, or installed software, the changes are reflected and stored in this repository. The registry is a crucial component because it is where Windows "remembers" all this information, how it works together, how Windows boots the system and what files it uses when it does. The registry is also a vulnerable subsystem, in that relatively small changes done incorrectly can render the system inoperable. For a more detailed explanation, read Understanding The Registry.? Not all registry cleaners are created equal. There are a number of them available but they do not all work entirely the same way. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system t... Read more

I've had this for a while... My browsers (when using google and IE) are almost 100% hijacked. There are 1/10 sites that actually direct me to the right place when I click it, but all the other times I'm redirected to an ad site, or the page doesn't work (i get a window popup saying "invalid syntax" twice before I can close the window.I've tried malwarebytes, avg, spybot s&d, and while finding and removing a lot of stuff, none have solved my problem. Hi there,

I'm not sure how I did this, but I've infected my computer with trojans / malware. I ran updated and ran both AVG and then Malwarebytes and they each found and succesfully cleaned some trojan infections.

But they didn't fix everything. When I google something and click on a link, I often get redirected to a different address. Also when I open Firefox, AVG goes nuts, telling me that various tracking cookies have been blocked.

I've followed your instructions carefully. I'm posting DDS.txt and attaching ATTACH.zip.

Thanks so much for your help.

Greetings. Yesterday, after I started up my computer, the first thing I did (as I usually do) was start up my browser (mozilla 3.0.5). Immediately another window opened, but I closed it before it loaded completely, thinking I had accidentally opened another browser window myself. I went from my homepage to another page I know and trust, when another window opened. This time I allowed it to load, but it was an ad for a site for which I had definitely not clicked the link. I closed it. Every time I traveled on the internet, within the same site or to a new one, another window was opened, especially suspicious since my settings are to open all links in tabs, not windows.
After only a handful of annoying window-pops, I became worried and ran my AV program, AVG 8.0. It identified a few problems (I do not recall where or their names) which I moved to the vault and healed. The problem persisted. I ran AVG in Safe Mode. No change. So I came here. Below is my DDS results, and the Gmer and attach.txt from the DDS. I hope it's enough to help you all help me with this problem. Thank you.

Hello and welcome to TSF.

This is a badly infected machine. You have an MBR rootkit infection among others.

Open NOTEPAD (it must be notepad) and copy/paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Code:
@echo off
mbr.exe -f
start mbr.log

Save this as fix.bat Choose to "Save type as - All Files"
It should look like this:
Place fix.bat next to mbr.exe & then double click to run it.

I was having issues with my comp for a few months now. Back then I was running XP home and was having issues that included a slow running comp and redirects. I finally gave up and installed windows 7 Home hoping it would solve the problem but am currently having the same issues just not as severe as back then. I did save files I wanted from one HD to another (both internal) before I installed Windows 7. These included photos, music, and anything else I felt was important I needed before the OS install. The main problem now is my computer is running slow and anytime I open a browser, either IE or FF, I get a second tab that opens up with some crazy website. The main sites are lycos.com and epoclick.com. I did a search on the epoclick site and saw others that were having the same problem.

Any help would be appreciated. Need any other info please ask.

Currently using SeaMonkey 1.1.14 due to past recommendations by others here and the fact that I was looking for an all-in-one Suite rather than a stand alone browser, since at the time Netscape pulled the plug on the 7.2 version.

Everything was great until tonight. When I begin to notice websites either not completely loading or not loading at all.

Though I can go from SeaMonkey to IE, or AOL. and the same pages that are giving me trouble in SeaMonkey will load fine.

Site #1 with SeaMonkey, all I get is a black screen. But if I bypass that link with this link then the everything works fine from there.

If I do certain things in other sites, such as try to watch videos. They tell me I need a more current version of Adobe Flash Player. But when I go to Adobe to download it, I get a screen that states the following:

The file /get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe cannot be found. Please check the location and try again.

My browser also keeps opening random tabs to various random and obscure sites. I`m a complete novice when it comes to sorting computers out so hopefully you can help me.

After I upgraded to latest windows 10 build (1151) ,I seem to have a problem of Chrome opening the first several requested web pages after computer comes out of "sleep" mode. I get the page that says cannot connect . After I hit retry it finds it . Sometimes the web pages don't load properly ie no pictures , just a listing or the picture color is not right. After a reload it works fine. After the first few pages of problems everything works fine again. It's like Windows or Chrome is having some delays accessing the requested pages when starting from a sleep mode. Any ideas? Tks

A:Windows 10 and chrome browser problem opening pages after sleep mode

That is why I dumped Chrome ages ago.
But lets try and help.
Uninstall it completely from your system.
If you want to still use it, then find the latest version.
See if that improves it.
If did does not why not try Edge and see if the trouble you are having improves, if not Chrome then some other problem.

Hi guys ( and girls )

I have an Acer Asspire 5332 running Vista.

A month or so ago the CD/DVD rom stopped working. Device Manager states it is unable to start and updating driver/uninstalling device etc does nothing either, other than recognise the drive as "standard cd rom" whereas it is actually a dvd rewriter. Acer tech support say that windows should pick up the driver automatically and cannot understand what the problem is. They do not provde a driver for the cd/dvd unit.

Then, in the last 2 weeks, certain web pages have failed to open, namely Hotmail and Facebook. All I get is a blank page with no error message Also videos on all sites intermittently work and don't work, saying I need to install Javascript which I already have! I have done all the usual checks and fixes ( internet options / javascript uninstall reinstall etc, as well as un-installing internet explorer itself.

Using another browser ( Safari ) opens up all pages including Hotmail and Facebook fine, but I still get the issue with the videos.

Does this sound like a virus? I have run Avast scan, and Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner. I am posting a "Hijack this log" for any braniancs to look over. Not sure if it is one problem, or several but doing my head in !!!

thanks in advance,
Rob

I get an error message whenever I open certain web pages, and Internet Explorer closes. I get the standard option to report the problem to Microsoft, which I have done repeatedly. (Does this really do ANY good?)

When I have this problem, it's always the same sites over and over again that close. Your site is one of them, so I am trying to do all this from my work computer. Therefore, I don't have my browser version or other stuff like that right now. I am running XP. There are also a handful of sites that close only every once in awhile.

My hijackthis log is below. I use Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster and SpyBot Search and Destroy pretty regularly, but if you spot anything malicious, tell me how to get rid of it, too. I keep getting stupid popup ads, even though I have the newest security patch of XP that is supposed to prevent that. And they always come from the same site, which is not on my "allowed" list. But I digress.

Hi, I have this problem: Some pages close automatically (before the page gets loaded) when I try to open them. I tried using firefox to open these pages, but the same thing happens. I would click a link, and it would be loading. However, before it finishes loading (new page is still white) the browser/window closes by itself. Currently, if i type the word "sponsor" and press enter to either look up the definition or search the word up, the browser closes. It also happens on certain forum threads and when I'm try to login on a certain website. Can anyone help me get rid of this problem?

I have Windows XP and use Firefox 3.0.11 as my preferred browser, though the problem occurs while using IE8 as well.

While browsing, a series of new windows will open automatically. They are new, full sized windows (as opposed to small pop ups) and are usually for dating sites, various ad sites (horoscopes, who has a crush on you type stuff) and the search site www.icanseek.com (complete with random"pre-programmed" search results). I know I'm infected, it's the "What do I do" part that I'm after!

I believe it is some form of malware, but I'm not sure what I'm dealing with (not a computer expert, that's why I'm here!)

I have tried the following Anti Spyware/Malware programs in an attempt to remedy the problem:

MalwareBytes' Anti Malware
AdAware
SUPERAntiSpyware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Spyware Doctor
AVGFree 8.5
Windows Bit Defender

All were the free versions. I shut down and restarted the computer after EACH scan. (This has taken me a few days.)

Most of the programs found and healed/deleted/dealt with several "infections" but none actually fixed the problem.

On another forum I read that this may not be a simple malware issue, and that it is possibly attached to a larger application or program installed on my computer. Possible sources listed were www.DesktopSmiley.com and something called System Search Dispatch. I found a program called System Search Dispatch in my add/remove programs list. It w... Read more

Recently started to get a weird problem with my PC when on the internet and so I'll try to convey what happens here as best I can:-

1. Internet surfing ceases when I've being surfing online to log onto things like my internet bank and most recently when I online this morning, looking at a travel/tour operator's website to simply browse what they had on offer.

2. I then get a message saying 'page could not be found' and I have to close down the internet.

3. When I try an log back onto the internet, my ISPs software (BT Broadband in the UK) says 'log-in attempt failed'.

4. When I';ve clicked on my 'Network Connections', the BT Broadband (Dial-Up) connection has dissapeared completely from Network Connections altogethor.

5. Have then reloaded the Broadband connection using my ISPs installation CD, but when I do get back on the 'net, it simply starts happening again.

It happended a few weeks ago and I resorted to re-installing Windows XP from sratch and it was fine until today !

My thoughts on this are it could either be something to do with my Windows XP settings or a new virus/trijan horse.

I have all the usual freeware programmes installed on my PC such as Ad-Aware, Spybot, Spyware Blaster, Hijack This, AVG Scanner and Kerio Personal Firewall. I have always had my Windows XP firewall enabled too when on the 'net.

I will no doubt have to call my ISP tonight when I get home from work and spend ages and ages h... Read more

All of a sudden, when going to sites www.gap.com or www.oldnavy.com, as soon as they load, my internet explorer window closes completely. There is no warning or reason, it simply disappears. Other site, www.iwon.com, www.ebay.com, www.sears.com, www.filenes.com, www.childrensplace.com
all load and stay up and running. These seem to be the only two sites I have had this problem with so far. My settings are all at default level. I have even placed gap and oldnavy as trusted sites. I have scanned for viruses and malware with norton, negative results. I have also scanned with housecall on the trendmicro site, negative results. The only thing I did recently to my system is upgrade from nero 5.5 to 6.6. I do not see why that would cause this problem. I entered msconfig and performed a selective startup where I pretty much only allowed my dsl connection to load. The problem still existed with these two sites. Hi Guys,

You've helped me once before with this problem, however, it's starting all over.

Whenever I try to open a page (Ex: Google, MSN or anything), it takes forever for the page to open, if at all. I had this problem once before and one of the techs suggested that I run SUPER AntiSpyware, which I did. Amazingly, this took care of the problem and my pages were loading extremely fast. However, within the last week my computer slowed down to a crawl and it's almost impossible to use. I am very careful what I download to my computer, so as not to get any viruses. The problem is, that I need my computer for my work and right now it's impossible to use, so I need your help.

Thx,

I have IE7 Release Candidate 1 (v. 7.0.5700.6) on my system(XP Pro SP2), and for the past several weeks I've been unable to use it: upon opening the program it closes itself within seconds. Initially, rather than closing, I would receive an error(I'm forgetting what the error said, but it's the kind that Microsoft gives you the option to send the error information to Microsoft for supposed analysis), explorer would freeze until I chose "Send Error Report" or "Do Not Send," after which explorer would close.

I've tried reinstalling Explorer, even using different versions (I believe 6), and also tried to uninstall it completely (although I've found it's quite difficult to do a full uninstall without reinstalling your entire system, which I definitely don't want to do), but the problem persists.

I've run AdAware, Ewido, and Registry Mechanic, but none of them have picked up on anything. I'm really at a loss here -- I have no idea what's going on. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Hi,

I appear to be having trouble with my firefox browser.

My operating system is Windows 8.1. I have an Acer Aspire V3-772G which I bought some 18 months ago.

System details:

Processor: Intel® Core i7-4202MQ 2.2GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
Installed Memory (RAM) 16.00 GB DDR3 L Memory
System  type: 64-bit Operating, x64- based processor

A few days ago my firefox browser, which for no apparent reason at all, just seemed to slow to a stupendously very slow loading of pages. I had recently just been working on an issue in which I posted a thread regarding whether there was a possible virus/malware after google chrome terminated with the following message from Hitman Pro Alert:

Attack Intercepted
'Google Chrome 49' has been terminated to prevent execution of malicious code. Please check your computer for malware and software updates

As it happened, it appeared to be because of a conflict somewhere in the Google Chrome, Trusteer Rapport and Hitman Pro Alert combination, and so the only way was to change the settings on Hitman Pro Alert as advised and shown in my thread:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/611273/possible-virus-or-malaware/

However, there was no malware or virus detected by my own Avast or Malwareware bytes tools, and the tools used as instructed in the thread also showed my system to have none. Also, google chrome works fine, and my computer has not slowed in any way. My fir... Read more

Hi, Could someone please help me with this.

Every time I go to a certain site, but sometimes it happens at other random sites, Internet Explorer will just close as if I clicked on the 'x' at the top. I don't understand why it does this. The site when it happens everytime is www.leaguelineup.com/greenvilleoilers .

I have windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer 6 with SP2. I ran virus checks and spyware checks but nothing seems to fix it. I even uninstalled using the add/remove programs and reinstalled it and it does the same thing.

If someone could help it would be greatly appreciated, if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks.

I know this has been addressed in previous posts but none of the solutions I found worked for me.

Upon starting my computer, opening regedit isn't possible. I get an error message saying: "Regedit is disabled by administer." To fix this, I run (every time I turn on my netbook) the following statement: REG add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System /v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

This allows me to open Regedit, but it immediately closes again.

I have started working in Sierra Leone and know my computer has many viruses on it. Still, none of my anti-virus software (I use AVG Free 9.0 and PandaSecurity ActiveScan 2.0) has solved this problem.

Below please find my HJT log. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Windows XP SP2

Explorer constantly closes both in normal and safe mode. F-secure indicates malicious code found in both mobsync.exe and worpad.exe of type_win32. At one point, F-Secure said I had a trojan (didn't specify) and win32 virus. I can only access programs via ctrl-alt-del and new task.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
Choose your usual account.

Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

OK, this is what's going on...

This particular game doesn't require much out of my machine. I've ran this game 5-6 times over just to see and it still ran smoothly, so I know for fact it has nothing to do with hardware (especially because I can still run much more graphically/processor intensive games). Just getting that out of the way.

I have played this game, unchanged, many-a-time pretty much every day, then one day it simply quits working. No update to the game (it does not update automatically), no change whatsoever. It'll just open and immediately close before any kind of content, color, or image is loaded. The whole process of me attempting to run the game and it closing takes less than a second.

I've tried spamming the game to see if maybe a 1 in 100 shot will randomly open it. This didn't work.

I have removed all my firewalls and antivirus, just for sake of testing purposes. This didn't work. Yes, I rebooted.

I have absolutely completely uninstalled the game, then reinstalled it. Rebooted, and it didn't work.

I have tried running as Administrator, or even just disabling the UAC altogether. Rebooted, and it didn't work.

It's an online game. Windows Firewall is disabled, all my ports are open, nothing is justifying what's going on here.

The two previous Firewalls/Antivirus I had were McAfee and Avast.

I am on Windows 7.

A:Game closes immediately after opening

What game and what are you exact PC specs (make and model if its a big brand name, or make and model of motherboard, cpu, gpu, ram, harddrive, power supply including wattage, optical drives etc.)?

At the moment, all you are saying is a random game doesn't work on a undefined machine ... thats not a lot to work with

Im trying to boot up a program that runs through the command prompt, and now instead of functioning, it just instant-closes when launched. I can see the window for a split second, but it's as if something in the background is killing it.

I've gone through the usual suspects, uac, anti-virus, windowsfirewall.. I can't figure out what's causing this, and it's imperative that I get this up and running, as the tool is necessary for game server development.

It really doesn't make a lot of sense as the program is listed to work perfectly with windows version 8.1,8, 7,Vista, XP, etc. I know there isn't much to go off of here, but the site which owns/distributes the program is primarily in Russian, as is their forums.. So that's out too.

Any advice?

I use OmniForm 5.0 and its Filler program on many client computers (100+) to process form documents. Program works flawlessly under XP. With the use of Vista I have a few computers that have been experiencing the same problem.. in trying to open certain forms Windows pops up a error window that says it has encountered a problem and needs to shut down.

This is a problem that occurs only on Vista, and only on a few (4-5) machines. OmniForm Filler will always open OK. However, when I attempt to open certain individual forms it begins to open the form and after several seconds pops up the error message. Sometimes the form will open and everything will work OK, but when you close the form and try to reopen it shuts down. It seems that if the forms is a larger document that it takes more time to open it and somehow the system times out.

Ok, i got this laptop in june 2004. It worked fine until august 2004 when i moved to college. The first day i got to college, i turned on my computer, opened up internet explorer, and it closed within 2 seconds. This happens every single time.

At the time I tried to fix the problem, I called the campus tech people and they came and spent an hour but couldn't figure out what was going on, the told me to run ad-aware...

I got someone to send me firefox over AIM and i used that for the rest of year without problem. Now I'm home again and i want to fix my computer.

I downloaded Ad-Aware and ran a full scan...

About 30 seconds into the scan... whilte it was scanning c:windows/system or c:windows/system 32.... a Window titled "System Shutdown" pops up and says that the computer will shut down in a minute, with a countdown box....

It says the shutdown was " initiated by NT AUTORITY\System" and there is also a message saying "Windows must now restart because the DCOM Server Process Launcher service terminated unexpectedly". This has never happened to me before, i tried it 3 times and it always pops up 30 seconds into the scan and then the computer restarts.
Another problem: I've never been able to get wireless to work on my laptop...

Hi

I am new to this forum. I am having a major issues with my pc. First its all started when the malware paytime.exe attacked my pc. It turned off my firewall(SP2 Firewall), real-time virus scanner(Trend microoffice client, not using its firewall, provided by my service provider). With the help of hijackthis, spybot and ewido and also the interent , able to delete paytime.exe and its related files.
To this I entered in safe mode.

Now I am able to control my firewall. Thats the only success BUT when I click nvmixer.exe in my taskbar, it shows visual C++ runtime error and my virus scanner is saying that officescan client has not started. So in control panel I entered in administrative tools and tried manually to start real time scan process but I failed again. It shows cannot start this process in safe mode. The same thing is repeated for other processes like error reporting etc. I am booting in normal mode only but its showing cant run in safe mode.

For runtime error I tried to download visual runtime files from support.microsoft, I failed to do so. My browser doesnt open sites of microsoft. When I typed support.microsoft.com, Page cannot display error is coming. I even disabled my firewall still it doesnt works.

Could you tell me how to make my process start again? And is there any program that will tell me about missing dlls if any(presently there are no dialogs of missing dlls). And about my browser security settings?

I also present you the log of the hijackthis.

Sometimes when viruses are cleaned out the process damages system files etc too. I'd suggest starting with a sfc and then if no go run a 'repair' (this installs os over itself and retains data but you'll have to re-do updates).

Okay, for some reason when I try to start Firefox, I get the message:

"firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

behind it is the Mozilla Crash Reporter:

"Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts."

There is an option to restart firefox, but the same messages come up. I believe it might have had something to do with a virus I had, but Malwarebytes removed several trojans (Vundo I believe was one of them) and installed IE8. So far I've

- restarted the computer
- completely uninstalled and reinstalled firefox
- ran ccleaner & combofix
- ran malwarebytes
- manually uninstalled firefox, renamed the user profile folder in %APPDATA%

i cannot restore to an earlier date because of the virus scans and deleting virus files that were housed within restore data. Has anyone else encountered this issue or know a possible solution?

I was able to do a full system scan in safe mode, and the system came up clean, but I still can't run the Live Update in regular mode. HELP!

I'm on XP, using Norton Antivirus Professional Edition 2004.

A:norton antivirus closes immediately after opening

Do the cntrl, alt, delete command to open the task manager then go to aplications and see if its still runing. If it's not there, then check the processes tab to see if its runing. If its not runing at all then maybe you should uninstall and reinstall then after do the patch. If it happens again then its gonna be a registry that some virus or malicious code has added or modified. Im not an expert but tricks like that are always pulled by means of altering the registry.

PS...MAKE SURE TO RESTART AFTER UNINSTALLING AND BETWEENING INSTALLING THE PROGRAM AGAIN AND PATCH.

Hi everyone, New to the forum so thanks for the help ahead of time. Upon opening internet explorer it immediately closes and displays nothing. Also Internet options in control panel will not open at all. The windows firewall also tells me "For your security, some settings are controlled by group policy." This computer is not on a network and is a home computer. I was able to work around it by doing some registry work in which I removed the value on the firewall key. So that enabled me to turn the firewall back on. The service for windows firewall is now started with no errors and is set to automatic.

The Internet explorer problem is more important to me at the moment. I know the internet connection is active because firefox works perfectly. I scanned the computer with AVG and it found so many viruses and trojans it was rediculous. I also scanned the computer with webroot spysweeper and it found nothing but when I open IE it stops all sorts of things like drivecleaner for example.

Hi guys,

Have just found and read a closed as solved post about Microsoft Office 2000 Outlook closing immediately on opening. Of course, now I have gone through the registration process I cannot find the original post.

So, within the last two days, for no apparent or obvious reasons, Outlook 2000 refuses to stay open. When I try to open it, it opens and immediately closes; no error messages, no crash reports to Microsoft. The only thing I notice is in the task bar at the bottom of the screen, when it opens it shows the outlook logo followed by '-Microsoft Outlook' instead of 'Microsoft Outlook'.

I have removed the program and reinstalled it a trillion times (only a slight exaggeration). This made no difference.
I have deleted (having copied it to a different location) the .pst file. This caused the program to open and ask various questions about setting up new folders. I did what it asked and the program promptly closed having created various personal telephone folders.
I have put the .pst file back. Now, for the pico second that the screen is open, I can see that there are no e-mails in any of the folders, obvious I guess, but confusing to an idiot like me.
Any help greatly appreciated.
P.S. Info Utility says I don't have an anti-virus but I am running a full Norton 360 program which is always on and I have scanned the whole system a couple of times since this problem began.

Seriously. What?

I click Control Panel. The window then opens and closes really fast! I opened/closed other folders and programs w/o this problem. It's just the CP. Restarting doesn't help.

I haven't downloaded anything suspicious lately either. This PC was just built like less than a month ago and the install was a fresh one.

Thanks for any help.

Edit: btw the same thing happens when I search for control panel in the windows menu startup thing (... what is it called?) and click the link that shows up.

A:Control Panel windows closes milliseconds after opening it...

You could have a malware problem. I sugest running a complete virus, spyware/adware scan and download HighjackThis and post your log in the security section for someone to analyize. If you need a good spy/adware program I suggest Windows Defender. It is pre installed on Vista you may have to turn it on. It will let you know when you click on it in the start menu. I hope this helps you. Please let us know how you are making out with this.

Hey
I've tried everything I know how to do (not very much). I've lost the recovery disc so I can't reformat. I have a Gateway tablet pc/laptop thing. I think i've picked up some nasty malware/virus/browser hijacker. When I open IE it would close immediately. Firefox is very unresponsive and my browsers appears to be hijacked. I get the warning that pops up on the task bar over and over saying that it's detected some spyware or malware and I need to click to download the antivirus. I'm in safemode now, I can't even use either browser in normal mode, I still can't use IE in safemode. If I have to log back in on normal mode to save a hijack this log then switch back to safe mode so I can post then i'll do that. I also noted that I couldn't even run the "hijack this" program, it wasn't until I renamed the .exe to something completely unrelated that it would even allow me to open it up.
Idk if my hijack log will be valuable in safemode but here it is, i've already tried looking at other people's threads with similar problems and troubleshooting myself unsuccessfully. I will appreciate anyone's help or helpful advice.

Hello,

I'm trying to resolve an issue on the family computer, which I'm afraid I don't use except when it needs to be fixed. I have an issue which I hope that you can help with: Internet Explorer closes itself automatically after only 2 seconds of being open. This happens only on one user account (the one that is used the most, from what I understand.)

I have performed a complete scan & fix with the latest versions of AdAware, Spybot, and CW Shredder. I have scanned the computer with both the Panda and Symantec online anti-virus utitilies and removed what they have found. Windows is fully updated. And I have been through the Add/Remove program list to be sure that everything in there is legit. Unfortunately, the problem still exists. Furthermore, the online virus-scanning utilities did not find any viruses - so I really have no idea what may be causing this problem.

If any more information is required, please let me know, and I'll be sure to write you back ASAP. Thank you in advance for your help. Here is my HijackThis log:

I had some major viruses & my comp was prompting me to do a system restore over and over, when I clicked yes in one instance, it actually did a system recovery. Many of my photos I THINK were lost because the driver and all other stuff for my digital cam were lost. I still have all of my music and some pictures that I stored directly on the c:/ drive and some documents from notepad and so on. I really don't know what happened exactly but even after the system recovery, I had to tinker around for a long time before even being able to anything. My comp is running as decent as can be expected for it's age, I think...but I am dying to explore all of my folders to see if I can recover any pictures, but when I try to explore folders, sometimes I get an access denied message, and sometimes I get a "windows encountered a problem" message. One problem may be that during setup the first time, I named my computer wanda, and during setup this last time, I named it another name. ANyways, trying to be brief here, I did this hijackthis log and I don't know if it holds any clues, but if someone could check it out, I would be most appreciative and I will definately be checking back here often. Hello oatmeal71,

You are still infected. I don't know if we can recover what has been lost since you've done quite a few odd things on your end, but we can at least remove the remaining infection and see if things improve a bit for you.

It may require more than one round to properly clean your system. Please stay with me even if symptoms improve.

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

* Ensure you have disabled all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

A:Adobe Reader 8 closes 5-10 seconds after opening - HiJackThis log included

I'm not qualified to advise on HJT logs, so I have no idea if yours shows anything wrong. Are you having problems with anything other than Adobe?

While you're waiting for advice regarding your log, there are three things you might want to consider;

1. Check that you have the latest version of Adobe, (8.1.2) and, if you don't, uninstall your present copy and download and install the latest one ;http://www.filehippo.com/download_adobe_acrobat_reader/

2. If you already have 8.1.2, try uninstalling and reinstalling it and see if that 'cures' the problem, or,

3. Uninstall Adobe and use Foxit Reader instead. It's a smaller download and seems to do everything Adobe can do ; http://www.filehippo.com/download_foxit/

I checked out other postings and found out that I need to ran Hijackthis and post the log here. Please check the log and help me. Thank you for your time.

A:Help! browser redirects to porn sites and ad sites

Hi LadyYuna and welcome to the forum.
You have a small adware problem which shouldn't be too difficult to clear up.

Re-configure Windows Explorer to Show Hidden Files & Folders.
Ensure you're familiar with restarting in Safe Mode.
Step # 1

Please download and install SUPERAntiSpyware Home Edition (free)
Once installed, update the program definitions when prompted.
Click the "Preferences" button and then the "Scanning Control" tab.

I mentioned not so long back that the chrome browser was closing after being opened and then getting a report that Chrome did not close properly! So after many weeks of this, I decided to return to firefox, in spite of the so called spyware.

Just now, I opened Firefox to do a Google search for somewhere, and - it shut down. When I reopened it, it opened on the page that had crashed. Google search.

So, it either not just chrome, or its a google thing? Weird? Anybody else getting this?

A:Browser Closes

Give this a try:

Open the Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator"
Type "netsh winsock reset" into the Command Prompt, press Enter.

Please Help !!!I am having some problems with my internet browser and am not sure what to do about it. The problem goes as this...About 6 months ago, I started encountering a problem that everytime I have a webpage or multiple webpages open and a pop-up gets blocked, all webpages close. The same thing happens when I have multiple webpages open and close out of just one, they all close. I intially thought it was a problem with my pop-up blockers as I run 2 different ones, they are Pop-Up Stopper and CheckIt 86. I have tried turning both programs off but the problem still persist. I run Spybot S&D and Ad Aware SE quite frequently and can seem to find nothing wrong. Any help you can offer to this problem would be GREATLY appreciated. This is kind of getting out of hand and VERY frustrating !!! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide !!!Diggem(Moderator edit: thread moved to more appropriate forum. jgweed)

Presuming that you're using Internet Explorer - you may want to consider repairing it. Here's a link on how to do it: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=318378

I would like to find out how to reset my Windows browser please. I use a home made computer that runs Windows XP Pro...Anytime I am online and on a web page, if I want to open a second browser window it will automatically close my first window!
Even if I hit my explorer button on the task bar to open a second window at the same time ...it will ALWAYS close the first window. I did not used to have this problem and I do not know how to correct it, nor what caused it... so if anyone knows I would be eternally grateful! honest Thanks, Dedee

Hi,
I've got an Internet Explorer that I haven't seen anyone else with. IE works fine unless i either click on a link that opens another IE browser or I go to the start menu and open asecond IE browser. In both cases the window I'm currently using closes as soon as the second one opens. I'm running XP Pro with SP2 and IE 6.0 w/ SP2. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Brian

Please download HijackThis . This program will help us determine if there are any spyware/malware on your computer. Double-click on the file you just downloaded. Click on the "Unzip" button to install. It will by default install to the directory - C:\PROGRAM FILES\HIJACKTHIS\ Run a scan and save the log file. Post the content of the log file here [using Copy-Paste] with your next reply. One of our forum analyst will then advise you after duly analysing your log. Do not fix anything in HijackThis since they may be harmless. Make sure to include the System information at the top of the log as well.

I have windows xp professional. Everytime I go to the bed bath and beyond website the webpage opens and then my brower closes automatically. If I have more than one brower window open, they all close. I disabled Norton Internet Security long enough to see if a setting on there may be blocking it but my browser still closed. I can't figure out what is blocking this particular website (one of my favorites). The last time I accessed this site was a few weeks ago and it opened fine. The only difference between now and then is that I got a popup error after turning on computer that said "Winfixer 2005 service currently unavailable." I ran Ad-Aware Personal SE and it still happend. So, I bought online the download for Spyware Detector to see if I could get rid of the popup. It didn't so I restored my computer to an earlier date and the popup didn't appear again. Then I downloaded Spyware Detector again and ran it and removed many items it recommended. But noticed that my mouse was acting erractic and jumping around. Next, I restored my computer again without Spyware Detector and that is where I am now. So, I can't load and keep open the bed bath and beyond website because it shuts down all my browsers. Don't know whether I should get my money back on Spyware Detector and try another spyware program or not.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Running XP Home ver. 2002 with SP2 on a Dell DIM4600 (2.66GHz w/1.5GB RAM) - 5 user accounts
500 GB SATA HD partioned as C & E drives
History of problem: Installed latest version of Firefox in June. Caused compatibility issues with Dell printer so I uninstalled and went back to previous stable version. Solved printer problem but then started having Firefox crash after a few minutes of use. Tried IE and downloaded Chrome - all would crash after only one or two searches. Removed parental web filter software K9 web protection.

Then the Shopica redirects started shortly after some browser reinstalls to try and correct the crashing - now have ver. 5.0.04183 of Firefox.

When shutting down or logging off user the Hello4 window pops up and locks things up.

When browsing you can search but all the links just bring up a blank screen. My DLink wireless router died during this time so I have replaced it with a Linksys. I also made some changes using the msconfig command so that may have caused some issues with stability.

I have read several posts on here and have run some of the tools such as Malwarebytes and did one of the online scans. A few items were detected but the computer is still infected. I tried to install the Recovery Tool but with no success. My XP disk is SP1 and even after following the detailed tutorials it still would not load. All of my important files are backed up so I am re... Read more

As the only person with a remote clue about how computers work in my family (I'm just about to earn my Computer Science minor, whooptie-ding), I've been assigned the chore of fixing my mom's computer. For a user on this comp running Windows Vista belonging to the administrators group:IE is incapable of remaining open. It's as if it's sent a message to close immeditatley after launching.Control Panel fails to display 'Home'Browsing for files via a prompt from within any program fails.I ran CCleaner, fixed the errors. I ran Windows Defender and ran a scan (which of course came back with nothing).I wish I understood the registry better, but I don't, so if anyone could help me understand where my mom's computer might be getting these problems from this log, I would appreciate it!Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 3:00:18 AM, on 11/1/2008Platform: Windows Vista (WinNT 6.00.1904)MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16757)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\AntiVirus 2007\tavui.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\HP\QuickPlay\QPService.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Software Update\hpwuSchd2.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live\WLLoginProxy.exeC:\Program Files (x86)\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeR1 - HKCU\Software ...
