Unknown Ethernet Driver - Compaq HP (model unknown) Windows XP

Q: Unknown Ethernet Driver - Compaq HP (model unknown) Windows XP

Please help me folks, I'm on borrowed time today.

I had to reformat my computer thanks to a handful of Trojans and of course, I am missing the Ethernet driver to connect. In the past, I had a friend set me up, but he never told me how to do it and he's gone in basic training so I can't ask for his help today.

I have a custom-built Compaq HP
I will have Windows XP HOME installed when I get the cash.

What I need is help figuring out where to look to find the model number to install the correct driver. I have tried the HP website and it does not work; My driver is built into the motherboard.

I currently have Windows XP Professional for English Students, it's my father's OS

Custom built by HP or a friend? See if you can tell us the model of the motherboard. Give us any name or numbers you find

I had to reinstall XP. After reinstalling the ethernet controller driver is missing and i dont know the ethernet card manufacturers name or the name of the card so i cant find any drivers for it.

I don't really know anything about PCI cards or motherboards.

Any help would be much appreciated.

A:Driver needed: Unknown ethernet controller Windows XP

Tell us the following please:
1: Is it a separate card or built into the motherboard
2: If a card, look at the chip (small square back think) and tell us the name on the chip and the numbers with it - could be Realtek 8029 for example. You may need to take it out of the case to see the detail.
3: If a motherboard, tell us who made it and the model number. You can find this by looking at it - you may need a torch.

Okay, first off, I have purchased two exact same Gateway Desktop towers from a business that went under and sold off all their stuff at an auction.

Neither computer will boot up, and gets a boot error.

I already planned on reinstalling Windows XP on them anyhow.

But the problems occur when I install Windows from my official MS Windows XP disc... It loads the disc defaults until It gets to the start up of installation and shows the hard drive. But instead of showing the 250 GB hard drive in the machines, it shows 4 Unknown drives. (no other information is given to me) but if I try to delete any of them, it won't let me and if I try to hit enter to install on the top drive, I simply get a BSOD "Page Fault In Non-Paged Area" screen.

I've tried going into the Bios on both of the towers, and nothing looks abnormal and bios sees the hard drives. I've tried simply loading default settings on the bios screen, but that doesn't make a difference.

I've also tried unplugging the SATA connectors from the hard drives inside the towers and plugging them into another SATA hard drive I have that I know is good, and the same exact thing happens trying to install XP from the CD.

Putting the windows XP CD into a USB DVD drive and plugging it into a USB port also gives the same problem.

My instincts are telling me that this problem is not a hardware issue at all, but rather some kind of software or security software issue that is preventing me from using or reinstalling window... Read more

Hi: Try the vista audio driver from the d530. This package contains the audio driver for the ADI AC97 Integrated Digital Audio Controller in the supported desktop models and operating systems. - Provides the initial release of the drivers for the supported desktop models and operating systems. For the graphics, you have to manually install this XP graphics driver as follows... Download and run the above driver.  You may get an unsupported operating system error.  Close out of any error windows. Go to the device manager and click to expand the display adapters device category.  Click on the standard vga adapter. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver. Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and then at the bottom of that window, select the Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.  Then click on Have Disk and browse to C:\SWSetup\sp31335\Win2000\ialmnt5, and select the Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller from the list, and the driver should install. Then restart the PC. That will allow you to change the screen resolution, but you will not have windows Aero because that graphics chip does not support Aero.

Hi All,
I have a Packard Bell iMedia 5137 Desktop Pc operating Windows XP. Just recently I had to reinstall Windows XP on to it, which wiped all the drivers for the devices. I now have several devices with a yellow ? next to them, the most important being an Ethernet Controller, which I am struggling to find the manufacturer for it, or any drivers.

I have checked the Packard Bel website, however, they do not supply any information on this model anymore.

I really need to find this driver to sort out my internet connection.

Any help would be much appreciated.

How would I go about fixing this? I heard that upgrading the bios can solve this but I cannot find a way to upgrade it even on the manufacturers website.

I've been trolling the forums here for a while. Lots of great info but now I actually have an issue where I need some assistance.

When I was booting one day last week I got a nasty BSOD when Windows was trying to load. Then on the next reboot Windows 7 said it couldn't load and needed to do the recovery OS option from the Windows 7 repair on the CD. Well, before trying that I did a cold reboot and it got back into the OS fine so I didn't think much of it. Now, I noticed Ghost shows the C: drive status as "Unavailable" and it can't back it up anymore. It does give me an option to restore from one of my old backups. I'm thinking the MBR got hosed up somehow or something like that. But I'm skeptical to run an MBR repair since I have that 100MB partition on my SSD where my OS resides.

Ghost Shot>

This was about a week ago my Windows 7 started acting up right before the big patch Tuesday. I've been running it for over a year now and it's been solid. When I first set it up I installed it on my SSD (Intel 510 120GB) drive. One of the qualms I had with the install is Windows created a separate boot sector on the disk drive where it stored my boot files. This is known the the "system reserved" operating system files 100MB partition. Apparently the way to avoid this is to use a third party partition tool before doing the windows install. That way it will keep the Boot sector files on the same partition which is how I would of liked it for doing resto... Read more

Hello, everyone.

For those who have kept up with my previous A+ Certification posts, I am very close to going for the A+ exam. I am working on a computer for a customer. It is quite old. The following are the main specs:

Gateway (Model Unknown)
Intel Celeron Processor (365MHz)
128MB RAM (2 DIMM slots, one open)
2 CD-ROM Drives
Standard 3 1/2 Floppy Drive
Here's the kicker...Windows XP Professional

The woman who I am working for took her computer (quite awhile ago) to a very bad computer repair shop. This store has long since went bankrupt and has various lawsuits against them for stealing parts from customers and placing them into their custom-built PCs, replacing the customers' parts with older ones....but enough of that...

This woman was told by the representative of this store (that couple of years ago when she had her machine serviced) that she would receive a RAM upgrade. Unfortunately, the system never received a RAM upgrade...which this customer and I found out this afternoon.

The RAM in the PC is a 128MB DIMM. Unfortunately, the level of the RAM is not indicated (e.g. PC100, PC133, etc) The computer starts with a Gateway logo, but that is all of the Gateway that I see anywhere on the system. I've run various... Read more

Device manager>> Hardware>> Processors shows 2 processors listed as unknown but "properly working."
Here's the specs on the 6000+ CPU 64 X2 6000+ - ADA6000IAA6CZ (ADA6000CZBOX).html
I have been doing windows updates for hours now and still no change. I used this app and it finds and list the CPU and specs just fine. Some say I need to update my BIOS via a floppy, some say there should be an XP patch or fix.
What do you all say? How can I get My Computer>> Properties>> to list the AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ same as it does/did the Sempron 2800+?

I suspect this is the HECI driver, but if I try to download the driver, and execute the setup, nothing happens, the setup executes but the driver doesn't install. I tried installing the driver through linking it, but that doesn't work either.
Do you guys have any tips on how to solve this issue?

Customer's Presario was attempting to load into XP home and stopped at screen with mouse pointer that didn't move when mouse was moved. Booted into safe mode. Same thing. Booted to recovery partition. More or less same thing. Finally convinced Compaq tech support to send the recovery cds. It recreated the restore partition and then, IIRC, stalled at the same place when it tried to restore the Windows partition. Finally, I tried to install windows 98, and it stalled out during registry creation.

Somewhere along the line, I started to suspect a hardware issue. :-/

I've checked both the RAM and hard drive and they're clean. A friend has suggested that it might be the mouse's PS2 port and to try turning it off in BIOS and use an USB mouse. I haven't tried that yet - I'm working on another computer.

Does anybody have any other suggestions, or should I start shopping around for a new mobo if that doesn't work?

I built a new PC July 2005 (please see the specs in signature below) and until about two months ago, it ran without any problems. Then, it began to randomly reboot & still is as of this posting. Sometimes it does so while being used and other times it can be just sitting and not being used with the monitor turned off and it reboots. I have even gotten up in the middle of the night to hear the POST beep and found that it was rebooting. It does tend to reboot more often when not being used and the monitor is turned off than when it is being used. When doing video editing, which is very processor intense during the rendering process, it never reboots.

I have not added any new hardware to the PC and the only software additions or upgrades/updates have been the usual Microsoft updates and patches they send out monthly and the anti-virus definitions and other updates for Norton Systemworks Professional 2005 that come out weekly and sometimes, daily. I have run the diagnostics app that comes bundled with NSW Pro 2005, which stresses the video card, RAM, HDDs, etc. and nothing happens. I'm not sure if this forum supports Windows installed on a MacBook,
but I'd appreciate any help provided.

Regarding my laptop, it's a MacBook Pro bought around 2011,
witn Windows 7 x64 installed from my friend's disc.
(Sorry I cannot remember exactly what it was)
"Barely alive" condition.
Works fine, but suddenly shuts down at times, alert shows battery not inserted (UNDETACHABLE on this MacBook model), won't run without power adapter connected, immediately shuts down when inserting USB cable into 1 of the 2 USB ports, won't detect internet connection, and so on and so on......

That aside, it worked fine until last week.

I was running Windows Update when I accidentally insert USB cable into the wrong port and "forced shut down" the laptop.

When rebooted, I get a flash of BSOD and auto-restart, which leads to startup repair.

From there, I ran startup repair a few times, each time I get the successful result yet Windows still won't start.

Then I switched to Mac OS to use it for some urgent stuff.
While in Mac OS I did went around and did "repair disk" and stuff to the bootcamp.

Next I tried searching for solutions through my phone and did this and that on command prompt.
chkdsk bootrec etc etc tried all posted solutions to something similar to my case.

The next thing I realized was that I now cannot even choose "Windows" on boot and I got stuck.

Then I asked my neighbor and fortunately could borrow Window... Read more

I loaded up explorer and opened up my C:/ drive to start a game in my program files, accidentally pressing "Downloads" finding this file there, my operating system is Swedish so the folder should be named "Hämtningar" (Swedish for downloads). The file is 93 kb in size and was created on the 27th january, there is also an account named "Unknown account(S-1-5-21-a bunch of numbers)" with total control, I also have no ability to remove it. I would like some help with this, malwarebytes also doesn't react on it. I've also noticed I'm unable to visit Bing (not like I use it, but still weird) with the access denied error.

All scans suggested in the "preparation" topic come up clean. However, The computer will not turn off or restart. Choosing either command through the start menu leads to nothing happening at all. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 on a 500 Gig hard drive with 3 partitions. The problem is I marked one of the partitions, not Drive C, as "active" by mistake.I done a Command Prompt to make it "inactive", but when I started the system up again it wouldn't boot.I used the Vista disk for the recovery process, but I got a message "Operating system unknown on (unknown) local disk" i tried fixing the problem with a command prompt "bootrec/fix boot" ,but nothing happened. When I look at the info in Command Prompt it doesn't show the disk partitions, just Disk 0.Also I can't repair because no Disks are listed to be repaired. If I look at the drive in "My Computer" it is full with a file system marked as "Raw" and it wants me to format the drive.I used "Recover My Files" software and it shows some of the documents that are on the drive, but doesn't show any recovery.I looked at some internet post about the message I got and partition and boot problems like I have, but at this point I don't to try any else to make it worse.I would do a reinstall ,but on one of the drives I have some stuff that wasn't backed up.I never thought about backing it up because it wasn't on the C drive.Any help to solve this problem would be appreciated. ..........Kumpie

Try marking the C partition as active again, using the Windows method in my post here.

Then run Startup Repair from the repair disc. Hopefully it will see your installation.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1. I ran HijackThis as you do and saw the following line which I removed.
Internet Settings, ProxyServer = running DDS in the dds.txt file I found these settings which may be unrelated but I cannot explain them.TCP: Interfaces\{5D969EFE-1A71-4BC0-950C-B6214B4FC1DD} : DHCPNameServer = I found these items I ran CCleaner just to lighten the amount I needed to scan. Then I ran ComboFix and Malwarebytes Antimalware and found nothing. I then used GMER and removed a virtual cdrom that had been sitting on my computer long after Deamon Tools had been removed.
It is the proxy server that worries me. Doing a quick search of it there does seem to be a Trojan keylogger that will listen on that port.

I just recently upgraded to the 6400+, (see specs above) and now my computer doesn't recognize the CPU, just says "AMD Processor model unknown?" Is this saying I need to upgrade my BIOS??

As of now everything is running normal, so if its not a big deal I'd rather stay away from the BIOS upgrade (if thats the problem). As I've heard many things can go wrong in that department. Thanks in advance!!

Hello everyone,Just got cleared hard drive and don't have any CD's that came with computer.I went to HP web site and downloaded most of the drivers but unfortunately cant get one for Ethernet card. There is also a few components installed on this computer that hasn't been recognized by Windows XP.It seems to me that I don't have any dedicated cards except Video (which i already found driver for). But I have no idea how to find out what kind of network card do i have.My guess was that since there are no dedicated cards installed - from list of available cards i decided that it has to be one integrated witch again from list of drivers would be only this oneWhich when installed doesn't work. It says that something is not found. Please help!

Maybe you can find a clue in Device Manager

click START
rightclick My Computer
click properties
click the HARDWARE tab
click the button that says DEVICE MANAGER
the Device Manager window should open
in it, locate Network Adapters and click the plus sign next to it.

Are any network cards listed there?

EDIT: also note anything in the Device Manager with a question mark or exclamation mark on it.

A:unknown driver help

ACPI is power management. See if Toshiba has any XP downloads related to power management.

Regarding automatic updates, you should try doing a manual download of SP3 (or SP2, if you want to be safe) and see if that fixes the problem. If you go with SP2, make sure to update to SP3 once you get everything to work.

By the way, if you are running XP with file sharing enabled, make sure that you do NOT plug your machine into a network until you have all the latest updates. Also be sure to enable the Windows firewall (or better yet, install a thrid party firewall such as Comodo or Sunbelt).

I recently bought a Dell Studio 1558 laptop (which I've been very happy with), but updating my drivers today I noticed there was an "Unknown device" in the "Other devices" menu. I formatted my hard drive (leaving the reserved OEM partition) after receiving the laptop and turning it on to check it booted etc. - I didn't want any of the bloat software. I re-installed the OS (Windows 7 x64), all the drivers from the disc and Dell support in the correct order, and updated windows.
The Manufacturer is "Unknown", the Location is "on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System and there is a Code 2 error (The drivers for this device are not installed. There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
When updating, it can't find anything, obviously. There is no Driver Provider, Date, Version or Signer.
The Hardware Ids is: ACPI\SMO8800    (next line)     *SMO8800
ConfigFlags: 00000040     (next line)   CONFIGFLAG_FAILEDINSTALL
Object Name: \Device\00000046
I'm fairly computer-literate, however I've no idea what this is (something to do with the power?). Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
P.S. There seems to be nothing wrong with my laptop without this driver running, however I hate having things like this on my PC!

A:Unknown Driver

From what I found when  I had the same problem today is that it has to do with the Accelerometer driver. Found info here:
While I downloaded the driver and double-clicked on did not actually install. The solution is to go to the /dell/drivers/ accelerometer folder and double click on the Setup icon in there. That will actually install the driver. Restart.

I've been getting the BSOD from every which way and think I have most all of it taken care of (Norton's is a nasty, nasty piece of work). Problem is I'm still showing one driver that caused a BSOD, netr28x.sys, and from what I can find it points to a RaLink RT2860 Series Wireless LAN Card. Problem is I don't have that card. I have a Edimax 802.11n wireless card. What gives there? I'm trying to update all necessary drivers to maintain system stability, but I don't know what I'm supposed to be updating as I don't have a RaLink card. I also see that netr28x.sys can be tied up to malware. Is that a possibility? Should I just update my Edimax card driver (I'm completely lost on Edimax's site)?

I'm not tech-savvy by any stretch of the imagination and learning all this as I go so I really appreciate any help you guys can give me in layman's terms. It is very much appreciated.

A:netr28x.sys and the unknown driver?

Run an antivirus scan
Run a malwarebytes scan, after you download it
Run the long scan and be sure to update before scan

If clean Go to the driver in question. Change the .exe to .bup. It is now harmless. If needed it is there and can be restored, if not the computer will not recognize it.

Hi urbanra5cal, Welcome to the Forum.

You do not have all of your device drivers installed,

You need to visit the Lenovo site and download the necessary drivers for your model, (if you do not know which ones then install all drivers that you do not understand) alternatively if you have a device driver cd you can use that

I hope this helps

Good evening,

I have noticed an error event whilst looking through the System event logs.

The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:

I have never seen this driver, or indeed error before and a quick Google search does not seem to show up much at all.

Hopefully someone might be able to provide some insight as to this driver or error issue.

As a side note, I have been having issues where the screen rapidly flashing (as seen by horizontal black lines moving upwards) followed by a complete system freeze up. The only way out of it, seems to be to power down manually. Is this likely to be an issue with the graphics card?

A:Unknown Driver (bpeknof)

there are no hits on that driver in Google for me either.
Problems with video would be caused by your video card or the driver.
What is the make and model # of your computer? Is this a laptop or a desktop? do you have a separate video card or are you using the onboard video?
Go to the manufactures support/download drivers site and type in your make and model# or service tag # and download the video/display driver for your computer. If the updated driver doesn't solve the problem and you are using an external monitor then try a different monitor. If nothing helps then the video card may be failing and need to be replaced, if a desktop computer.

Please go to the thread for more info, I would not want to do anything that might mess up the computer without asking for expert help first.

Does anyone know what ngfpl.sys is? This file does not have any info on it when I look at the properties in the System32/drivers folder.

Thanks in advance

There was no reference to the driver in Google or any other search engine. In the past this was an indication of a virus.

Hi Could someone please help me locate the driver for the following unknown device on a HP ProBook 430 G3?  It's listed as a Multimedia  Audio Controller. PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D70&SUBSYS_80FF103C&REV_21PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D70&SUBSYS_80FF103CPCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D70&CC_040100PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D70&CC_0401 ThanksPhil

A:Unknown Device - Looking for Driver

Hi, Phil: It is part of the Conexant HD audio system. If the above driver does not automatically install that device, go to the device manager, and click on the multimedia audio controller needing the driver. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.  Select the Browse my computer for driver software option and browse to the driver folder that was created when you ran the file. That folder will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp72909.  Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.  Then reboot the PC. The driver setup information file for the hardware ID you posted is included within the driver package. [Intel.NTAMD64.6.2]%IntcAudioBus.DeviceDesc% = IntcAudioBus, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D70&CC_0401 ; SPT-LP%IntcAudioBus.DeviceDesc% = IntcAudioBus, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D71&CC_0401%IntcAudioBus.DeviceDesc% = IntcAudioBus, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D72&CC_0401%IntcAudioBus.DeviceDesc% = IntcAudioBus, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D73&CC_0401%IntcAudioBus.DeviceDesc% = IntcAudioBus, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D74&CC_0401%IntcAudioBus.DeviceDesc% = IntcAudioBus, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D75&CC_0401%IntcAudioBus.DeviceDesc% = IntcAudioBus, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D76&CC_0401%IntcAudioBus.DeviceDesc% = IntcAudioBus, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_9D77&CC_0401%IntcAudioBus.... My printer stopped working after AOL updated their security center. When I try installing, it says printer driver unknown. I've tried installing from disk and hp website. Printer driver unknown keeps coming up. Hp support told me to call AOL. AOL told me to reinstall AOL from disk which would revert my system back to prior to update - didn't work. HP told me to uninstall AOL security center, then unplug printer cable and plug back in-didnt work. Is there a way to install this printer that was working fine prior to this AOL update?
Hope someone can help me.

I have read the forum rules on how to post on BSOD, but I was hoping to skip the info since my question is specifically about the driver.

I have spent hours trying to find a solution to no avail. Using the software BlueScreenView, the results I get are:

Bug Check Code : 0x000000d1
Parameter 1 : 0xe7741000
Parameter 2 : 0x00000002
Parameter 3 : 0x00000000
Parameter 4 : 0x82a0eccb

Caused By Address : ngfpl.sys+4ccb

Processor : 32-bit
Computer Name :
Full Path : C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini111310-01.dmp

Major Version : 15
Minor Version : 6002

I am trying to repair the computer for someone else, so I do not know what driver she updated to cause the BSOD. The only symptom I know is that the BSOD occurs only when I'm online, which leads me to think the faulty driver is possibly network related somehow?

Does anyone know what ngfpl.sys is? This file does not have any info on it when I look at the properties in the System32/drivers folder. Everywhere I have read says to identify the driver, but I cannot find out any info on what this driver is so makes it hard to fix

Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

This is a clean install of 10 on a Gateway GT5404, originally a Vista PC.

There is nothing connected to this PC other then the keyboard, mouse, monitor, and a GTX 660, all seem fine. So I`m assuming this is something on the board, could one of you hardware ID experts have a look at the pics and give me your thoughts, If you need anymore info let me know., and Thanks in advance

BY the way, this is a clean install done after upgrading from 7 to 10. After that upgrade Device Manager was perfect, but aftera clean install it now has this little issue, so far there are no issues because of it, yet
Windows is fully updated. Now running build 10586, sfc is perfect etc.

My story is weird, very weird.
Well, first my laptop is Compaq Presario CQ71. May be old, but as far I am concerned, very efficient for me: word and internet search in philosophy. OS: Windows 7 Home Premium. 4 Go Ram. Processor: Intel Dual Core.
One day of august 2015, first BSOD. It was the first time where Windows 10 tried to install itself. I retart my computer and big drama. My HD was in big troubles. Several partitions and boot was out. I have lost an important part of my works. So, I format and reinstall ? but from that date, I have the following problem: It is impossible to activate my graphic card, here Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset family. When activate, it is BSOD.
?Whocrashed? said at each time it is because there is a bad driver on my system? but an unknown driver!
Now, from 3 weeks, one of my UBS port is no more ok.
Except all these nice tricks, my laptop is working properly.
NB : from august 2015, several maintenance have tried with no success to find the solution. HP said it is no more its problems (because my laptop is too old), and some people said it is perhaps HP tattooing? of course I have updated drivers and windows.
Well if a genius can help me ! 1 To of thanks!

A:Secondary driver 0 * 1 unknown?

Typically, this could mean the drive has failed.
Check all the internal connections, delete the drive in device manger and reboot to reinstall.
It's not unusual for these drives to fail, and they are cheap and easy to replace.

I turned on computer today and I saw that I have two mouses on screen. My main mouse is movable and I can work normally with it, but second one is stuck on top left corner and it's copying my main mouse icon (hand, arrow, typing icon).

And then I don't know why but I have looked into System Resolution control panel and I saw that I have a third monitor that weren't supposed to be there. Resolution is 640x480, and it's number 1, and my primary monitor is number 2.

I can't turn off that monitor ("Show picture just on 1" (my primary monitor)) like I had it before.
I am posting screenshots.

I called Microsoft and they said that these files aren't one of theirs (???).
Norton also lists this file isn't on a lot of peoples computers, which is a red flag.

I'll check back here of course, but I'll also include an email address. Eager to know more about this. Thank you for any help.

I've been dealing with BSOD issues with my laptop for almost a year now, supposedly it was a hard drive issue and I had that replaced through my warranty in December. BSOD stopped... for about 36 days, just long enough for my warranty to have expired 15 days earlier. It's only gotten worse since then and I have no clue what's causing it. In march I finally gave up on trying to fix it and retired it to be a paperweight but I'd really love to be able to use it without it randomly blue screening. The BSOD seems to have no trigger it's happened during gaming (wow), working on word docs, browsing the internet, watching videos, and even just after start up with no programs running.

Due to the age of your hardware, please check the compatibility of your system with Windows 7. Run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

Crashes are pointing to memory problems or driver conflicts. If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

For Part 3: If You Have Errors: If you swap any memory components, follow these steps for ESD safety:Shut down and turn off your computer.
Unplug all power supplies to the computer (AC Power then battery for laptops, AC power for desktops)
Hold down the power button for 30 seconds to close the circuit and ensure all power drains from components.
Make sure you are grounded by using proper grounding techniques, i.e. work on an anti-static workbench, anti-st... Read more

Hi, I recently purchased a USB 2.0 Network Cable.
I have been unable to find the necessary drivers to support the cable.
I bought it from a wholesale website, and there's no manufacturer disclosed on the box or the website.
The disk that came with the cable has drivers, but they don't work on windows 7, and the pop-up tells me to contact the manufacturer, which of course I cannot do.
If you could help me find the appropriate drivers, I'd really appreciate it. If not, then I would like to return the product since I am unable to use it. Thank you.

I need some help with a Vista Home Prem install.

I did a "clean install" from XP Home using Upgrade media. The first install series went bad during a Windows Update reboot when I let it update several "recommended" updates at once. End result a new clean install.

Second install went much better and system was working well for a couple of days. I normally leave the machine running but due to wx in the area, chose to shut down last night. On restart when I arrive at the desktop I get an immediate notification that Windows has found new "Unknown" hardware and wants to install drivers. It offers me the usual options for finding the drivers or ignoring the problem for now. When I attempt to select an option, I find that the cursor is frozen and nothing seems to resolve that.

I've tried a Start Up problems found. I've tried a couple of system restores to different (known functional) prior dates but after the restore and subsequent reboot, the problem reappears. Tried a Safe Mode boot...same thing. I was using a Logitech bluetooth USB mouse/keyboard, so I replaced that with a PS2 setup...same result. I have disconnected all cables other than the monitor and keyboard/mouse...same thing. I'd provide error logs if I could get to them, but that seems impossible (at my "enthusiast" skill level)
