HP EliteBook Folio G1: Precision Touchpad and ALPs GlidePoin...

Q: HP EliteBook Folio G1: Precision Touchpad and ALPs GlidePoin...

Hello, the EliteBook Folio G1 (2016) allows the choice between MS Precision and GlidePoint. The problem described below occurs on both driver versions. (Please also note that I have configured *all* settings (on all 3 locations where mouse settings can be configured), and I did so in a way that rules out that the problem is a result of misconfiguration. Bios, Windows and Touchpad drivers are up-to-date.) Problem: When I try to move the cursor just a little bit (which is a very frequent action in everyday computer usage in general (e.g. cursor positiong, checkboxes), and with certain applications (imaging) in particular), there is no response until I have moved my finger over the touchoad a few millimeters (!). This is very annoyng -- it is impossible to do precise operations. In particular, no such issues exist on my other notebooks. I guess it's some kind of protection so no movements are done when accidental touching the touchpad. However, unlike the "prevent-movement after typing"- option, there is no user-visible setting that would allow the user to disable this annoyance. I am actually considering sending the computer back. It is ironic because this is anything but "Precision". (All the other features and behavior of the touchpad are quite good, btw). Request: Please forward this problem to your developlemt/software team so they can check whether this can be changed, and then please provide new drivers/etc. They should check whether this can be improved software-side., ASAP. Thank you.

Hi!
I got my Precision M4800 and I'm really about it.
But! I dislike the touchpad for one reason : No option to enable one-finger scroll. I'm kinda "old school" with touchpad and I don't like using my the two-fingers scroll and all the "fancy " features and the touchpad software don't have this specific feature.I tried the old driver version (7.0), but it's not compatible with Windows 8.1.
I can see a lot of values in the regedit ( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Alps and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alps ) but I don't know which one it can be,
Do you know if a generic ALPS drivers exist? Do you have a solution for this issue?
Thanks!

A:Enable one-finger scroll on Precision M4800 (ALPS touchpad)

Run the DellTPad.exe file in C:\Program Files\DellTPad.  This will give you an older interface which includes the one-finger scroll.

Hi I got a brand new Elitebook Folio 1020 G1 - I would like to use the TPM 2.0 that it is advertised with. According to the specification it has an Intel Firmware TPM 2.0. But I don't seem to be able to enable it. The BIOS only gives me an option to enable/disable a TPM, but it seems to only be the hardware Infineon TPM 1.2. Can anyone let me know how I can enable the TPM 2.0 on the Elitebook?

A:TPM 2.0 on Elitebook Folio 1020 G1

Firmware TPM is version 2.0. Hardware TPM is v1.2, which is a subset of the TPM 2.0 specification version v0.89as implemented by Intel Platform Trust Technology (PTT).For more information on HP security solutions refer to: http://www.hp.com/go/clientsecurity.

I have a Studio 1535 that originally came with Vista and the IT guys at my university upgraded to Windows 7. I really want to be able to deactiviate the Alps Alps TouchPad, v.7.2.101.104, A01 as I use a wireless mouse and the touch pad highly annoys me. I tried to d/l the driver for the TouchPad but it wasn't compatible. I was hoping on of you fine people could direct me to a compatible driver.

A:win 7 and Alps Alps TouchPad, v.7.2.101.104, A01

have you checked to see if the touchpad drivers are in device manager.
also if you type mouse in the start search then click the result, there may be a device settings tab that allows you to disable the touchpad when a mouse is plugged in.

I have a HP Dock Connector to Ethernet and VGA Adapter (http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=G7U78AA&opt=&sel=ACC)  that I use to connect my laptop to an external monitor (HP ProDisply P221) and the wired network. I now want to connect a second monitor (another ProDisplay P221) to my laptop. What are my options? I don't want to buy a full docking station. I read somewhere that a VGA splitter cable would not be useful as it simply duplicates the same display as one sees on the first monitor. I have an HDMI port available on my laptop. Can I use this port with an HDMI to VGA cable and connect the HDMI-to-VGA output to the second monitor? Will this give me a continuous (and NOT a duplicate display)?Thank you for your help.

Hi Guys,
I needed some help with my Dell TouchPad, after some sort of drivers upgrade, I'm not able to use laptop touchpad.
Everytime when I boots up my laptop, I get this error ALPS_setmousemonitor error
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and nothing worked.
Under the device manager, the Windows 10 OS doesn't seem to detect the drivers well and always detect HID compliant mouse which is not the correct mouse driver.
Need help. This problem had been there for weeks and tried resolving myself but none work.

Dear community, I recently bought a brand new HP EliteBook Folio 1020 because it's officially given as supported by Ubuntu OS. So after installing this system, I discovered that the Alps Forcepad is not fully supported by Linux. Basically, the mouse and click is working, but MultiTouch features are not working at all. I mean that my old EliteBook 8460p supported the two finger scrolling perfectly with the Synqptics drivers, but unfortunately, this is not the case for this new computer. After some research, the problem comes from the psmouse module, the touchpad is detected as a generic PS2 mouse. some Google research give me some third party project to give better support for Alps device like https://github.com/he1per/psmouse-dkms-alpsv7, and while the modules seems to be compiled corrected and then finally detected as a Alps device, the multitouch feature still not working. Is there any patch for psmouse that can be provided in order to support the muti touch feature, at last the two fingers scrolling, this is the minimum for having a decent usage of the applications. Thank for your help and best regards Obitwo.

A:MultiTouch issue with Ubuntu and EliteBook Folio 1020

That git project you're trying to build is for an old Linux Kernel (3.13). Firstly it will not build with any recent kernels becuase the source functions/logic have changed too much.In Linux 3.18 support for Forcepad was added in the drivers/input/mouse/synaptics.c file. But this supports the HP 1040 Forcepad. The HP 1020 uses another (perhaps newer) model of Forcepad. I too am desperately looking for a solution..

Hello @OskarB98? Welcome to the HP Support forum. I am afraid that there is no other options other than HP Support for business. Most business class notebooks (including yours Elitebook and Probook) have better security. You will have to contact HP Support for assistance on removing the password. Here is how >> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-phone-assist.html>> http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/business-support.html HP Business support should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file and instructions which you can use  to reset the password. I am sure they do not need any kind of proof - just be somewhat pushy. In order to generate this BIN file they will need your serial number, product number, UUID, etc... found in the startup menu (F1) .  Hope this helps. Let me know if you face any issues.

Although if could be a h/w issue, you mention the touchpad works within the BIOS to point around the menus. I would encourage you to run HP SDM (www.hp.com/go/sdm) and update all hardware drivers and BIOS (BIOS needs to be done by itself). That should help with your issue.  Do not install any other software suggested by SDM unless you know you use that particular tool

Hello, on the German HP website, it's possible to order the new Folio 1020 with Skylake processor.  My question: I'm currently in Germany so I am thinking of ordering it, but I would like to know if HP will provide additional models: Currently, only these models are on offer:- 4k touch with 6y75- FHD antiglare with 6y54 I.e, there is NO 4k antiglare, and there is also NO antiglare with 6y75. I prefer 6y75 with antiglare, and if possible 4k antiglare.  I would like to know if HP plan to release a 4k antiglare version, and also if there will be 6y75 models with antiglare (be it FHD or 4k). Should you not know of any such plans, I would like to ask you to forward to the developers of this model that there surely is a demand for m7 antiglare models, and presumably also a 4k version. Thank you!

I am currently running Windows 7 Pro on my Vostro 2510 Laptop. It's the best deal I ever got, but the touchpad is simply wretched cause its an Alps Touchpad. The drivers are simply abominations. The only gesture my touchpad driver has is Scroll.

So I looked around, and found this newer driver. It had some decent and most basic gestures, and it sufficed for my needs. However, it causes my Aero cursor to freeze up and no longer animate. This usually forces my mind to think my computer has frozen when it has not, very discontenting.

Then I had another Idea, what if there was a way to force Synaptics driver to think my Alps touchpad is a synaptics one so I can get synaptics features?

If anyone get help me fix the error with the new Alps driver or synaptics idea or anything else, I'd appreciate it very much.

I dunno if it's a touchpad or a trackpad I have but there was a program along with it called like Apoint or something that would run and allowed me to change the settings on the touchpad. I have looked and can find no other way of accessing the touchpad settings. Well the last time I remember it working was before I updated Windows Vista, well now the program no longer runs I had it set to disable the touchpad when an external mouse was detected and it no longer does that. I went into its folder located at C:\Program Files\DellTpad\Apoint.exe and double clicked it and nothing happened. It use to run at startup but no longer does and I checked and it is still set to run at startup but does not, any clues as to what is going on? I believe I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.
I managed to fix it by going to Device Manager in the control panel uninstalling Dell Touchpad and rebooting.

Hey there guys,
I installed Windows 8 on my Dell Inspiron 1440 (previously running Windows 7) and had to uninstall and reinstall my Alps Touchpad driver to make sure everything worked. In the past week or two though I've been battling the FBI Malaware virus and, though I've finally removed all the remnants of it, my Alps Touchpad just won't work. I've attempted to uninstall the driver through Device Manager, delete driver folders and reinstall, and use compatibility settings to install drivers. Nothing's working and the virus must have somehow corrupted the driver. Is there anyway to fix this situation? I can temporarily scroll using Apoint.exe from the Alps folder but that is a little clunky and temporary. Thanks guys and I hope to resolve a really annoying issue soon.

I have a Lenovo G530 4446-25u. Recently my Windows XP partition became corrupted after a system recovery which forced me to initiate a recovery install. This wiped out the touchpad driver I had installed. So I re-downloaded the package from the Lenovo website which installs the Synaptics Pointing Device software and ALPs Touchpad Driver automatically. The thing is the ALPs Touchpad Driver always fails to install with no indication why. The reason this is annoying is because my touchpad is extremely sensitive and it is always clicking when typing. Without this driver in XP I cannot disable tapping. This has turning into a major issue believe it or not as I use my laptop generally to type papers and take notes during lecture. I've also tried installing the driver in safe mode but I get the same results.

Thanks in Advanced,

Hi there. I recently purchased a Yoga 300 and a Yoga 500, and the laptops are pretty great - everything works pretty well apart from the ALPS touchpad, which frankly, is the worst touchpad I've ever used on a laptop... there's about a 50% chance that any click or movement you input into the thing is not registered... The ALPS is a mistake, why not stick with a symantec pad? just visiting the ALPS site should set off alarm bells. Broken graphics, garbled english and a disclaimer that they refuse to supply end users with drivers - and that's the entirety of the site. Honestly, the trackpad on the yoga cripples the device so badly, I'm debating just returning it, and shelling out for a surface or something. --- What bothers me most is that the lenovo driver supplied with the yoga laptops has multi-touch scrolling, but the scroll direction is reversed to literally every other device on the market. The settings menu for the thing has an option to reverse the scroll direction for horizontal scrolling, but not for vertical scrolling. What gives? To include the feature, but hard-force it to run backwards, and not even offer the option to reverse it? What kind of person does that? Does anyone have an ALPS driver that would let me set the scrolling direction to the sane direction? It's driving me nuts, and I've spent three days looking for a driver that will work and do what lenovo should have done to start with.

i don't find this on the i'net after a month on google so i'll post here. it seems the alps drivers do not fully support v.x64. doesn't have the disable button anywhere. today vaio help (tier 3, supposedly) finally told me the above which i told there tier 2 a week ago, i guess he didn't read the notes. said i would have to live with it. they wouldn't help w/ registry hack. probably means they didn't know it. bad, bad, bad sony. anyway, to the chase. i saw where linux people could use synaptics drivers. tried the same trick w/ v.x64. there was the button under start>control panel>mousec>device settings>disable. those penguins aren't so bad. i have a severe neurological disease and that touchpad rendered a $1200.00 computer unuseable. sony's response was "live with it." to quote my favorite tech authorities, the three stooges, "chowderheads." let me reiterate "bad sony, bad sony." Drivers | Synaptics v.10.1.8 worked for me on win vista home premium x4, sp1/vaio vgn-fw170j.

Just thought I'd share this here since I had no luck setting this up with the built in GUI for the Alps touchpad settings on my new Y50-70. I have good news for laptop users with built in ALPS Touchpads. Acer/Gateway (same company) have been generous to create a new driver for Windows 8 32/64-bit users.

To make sure that your ALPS Touchpad may be compatible with this new driver for Windows 8, make sure that before upgrading to Windows 8, in Windows 7 open Device Manager, check the "Mice and other pointing devices" category and your Touchpad should be listed as "ALPS Pointing-device".

If it is, then you are a candidate to install the newly released drivers. Click the link for a direct download from Gateway.

Instructions:

1. Unzip the file.
2. Double-click on setup icon and install.
3. Reboot.

After installation, this new driver adds Windows 8 gestures that are found on Microsoft Surface and other tablets for the TouchPad. There are other features there, but those are up to you to experiment with.

You can access the TouchPad settings by either clicking the TouchPad icon in the taskbar or by going to Mouse Properties in Control Panel.

Just upgraded my Dell laptop to Windows 8 and could not deactivate touchpad when using Bluetooth or USB mouse. I downloaded the ZIP file using the link above, unzipped it, and installed it. I works on my Dell Inspiron 1545. The ZIP file contains both 32 and 64 bit versions. Many thanks for guidance and explanation.

Hi again, I recently upgraded to 64bit Vista and 4 gigs of ram on my G2S-B1 and now I can't disable the annoying touchpad via that key with a icon of the touchpad with a slash threw it right above the print screen button...

Apparently drivers are not compatible with Vista 64 bit,.. what a surprise..

I've manage to uninstall it via device manager but would love to get any drivers that will give me the disable/enable button functionality back so please DO TELL!

Scoured all over the internet and although it says to go to device properties, then hardware then advanced, the option for touchpad is not even an option. Not sure where to go from here. I have seen in Ubuntu u can work with the config file, but I really feel more comfortable doing something within windows not by messing with config files. Any help would be appreciated

I need a "good' Alps touch pad driver.
Something with similar options such as synaptics....preferably swipe and coast scrolling. All of the Alp drivers I have tried have jumpy scrolling ...jumping a few lines at a time rather than matching actual finger movement.
Since Alps touchpads seem to be gaining popularity with the manufacturers,I am hoping a good driver now exists.

I have found one that didnt jump a few lines{precision scrolling} at the dell site but it didnt have continued scrolling...meaning when your finger reached the bottom corner, scrolling stopped rather than continued until lifted or moved back up.
I would settle for continued scrolling without the jumping of lines{precision scrolling}....but opt for the coasting feature.....So in a nutshell I need precision scrolling..with continued and or coasting scroll options.

If anyone has a good alps driver on their laptop or knows of a good Alps touchpad driver..I need the model number for the unit or the version number of the driver

I have Alps version: 7.1.102.7 and have gone to the Dell website and uninstalled my mouse program and reinstalled it and it still won't work. If there is another website for a more updated version of Alps or if there is something internally wrong with my computer any help would be appreciated!! THANKS!

Just finished to the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8. The upgrade went surprisingly seamless and except for the long download and installation was a breeze. I am still learning to get around on my laptop. I upgraded on a Dell XPS m1530. The only thing I was required to uninstall was my Alps touchpad. I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find a Dell (or Alps) Windows 8 driver. I am running a 64 bit processor.

If I can't find a Winows 8 touchpad driver, is it possible to locate a Windows 7 driver and use it. Has anyone been successful doing this. If so, what is the process to install the driver (8 or 7) in Windows 8.

I am fascinated with the process to setup Windows 8 and just as amazed at how it works. It does work much better with my laptop then I thought it would!!!

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Any suggestions as to where to find XP compatible software for the Alps touchpad on a Toshiba Satellite 35DVD laptop.
Nothing at the toshiba site, the 2000 drivers wont work.
the recovery/utilities discs only contain ME drivers.
Nothing at Alps that I could find.
Problem is that when typing (in word for example)the cursor jumps erratically, there was a setting in the old alps touchpad utility which ran on millenium that stopped this happening.
Since reformatting and installing XP-pro the problem has re-occurred.
Any suggestions welcome thanks!

Hi everyone, I just bought a Thinkpad Yoga 14 S3 and I have an issue with the ALPS touchpad.Whenever I click the touchpad (physical click not tap) with a finger on it, it opens the right click menu...This is very annoying as I always use two finger, one for moving the cursor around and one for clicking.I have the lastest touchpad driver (8.216.1616.137) and I am on windows 10. I tried any possible solution I could think of with no luck:- Went through the touchpad option thousand times.- Tried changing entries in Regedit (change Enable2Click to 0), and what it did was that is now does not recognize it as a right click, but not as a left click either. When I click with the finger on the touchpad, the cursor now jumps but does not register any click. Any ideas on how to solve the issue? Thanks in advancePierre

A:Problem with left click on ALPS Touchpad

I have exactly the same problem on my Thinkpad E460! This almost makes my laptop unusable. Please update this driver asap Lenovo. P.S. If you uninstall the ALPS driver and use the standard Windows PS2/Mouse driver, this problem does not occur. However there is no setting (at least I did not find one) which allows you to disable 2 click. Also scrolling and gestures do not work with the Windows PS2/Mouse driver.

I have a new hp mini 311 that uses an alps touchpad in windows 7 with the latest hp drivers installed. The touchpad works great for normal mouse movements, but edge vertical scrolling is almost unusably bad. It scrolls a few lines here and there inconsistently, not really matching up to how my finger is moving along the scroll area. It's very inconsistent. It's almost like the alps drivers are doing their own processing to scroll the windows instead of having the scroll area emulate a mouse wheel (like in every other laptop I've used). There are sensitivity and scroll area controls in the drivers I'm using, but they don't help much.

Are there any different alps touchpad drivers out there that have better scrolling performance that I could try out? Or, are there ways to get the default windows touchpad drivers (which only work with mouse movement) to work with edge scrolling? Thanks.

A:Solved: bad vertical scrolling with alps touchpad

All right, I managed to find a solution to this problem. Install the toshiba alps 7.5.303.117 drivers. It doesn't let you customize any of the options, but it definitely fixes scrolling and works pretty well. The drivers are kind of tricky to find, but you might be able to find them on a toshiba sight and they fixed everything for me. Hope this helps anyone with similar problems.

It seems that Alps Touchpad isn't fully compatible with Windows 10 given that it couldn't scroll properly on MS Edge. The mouse can scroll, but it scrolls like a snail, like I'm scrolling a backgound application. Indeed, it seems that the touchpad sees MS Edge a background app even though it is in the foreground because if I put Edge as actually a background app and another program (e.g. video player) in the foreground, MS Edge scrolls well without any issue. It seems that Alps sees MS applications as this: foreground app is background app; background app is a foreground app. I hope HP or Alps will provide an updated driver.

I am trying to install the current Alps touchpad driver R307442.exe as listed under my service tag. Of course I am doing this to have some control over the touchpad, which I have none now.  The installation fails every time (install wizard).
I have looked at the other driver updates, and there are 2 bios updates, but it doesn't appear they would affect the Alps install (bios#1 for Windows8 upgrade, bios#2 to revert to old bios) and I don't want to install them anyway.
Any help in installing this Alps driver is much appreciated.

HI everybody,

I face the same problem as the friend here; Personally I have spent hours to figure out how Toshiba could be mad enough to make this simple setting impossible.

I have tried :
- replace the driver by newer Alps, Synaptics
- ask the Toshiba technical support, that has been unable to find a solution, but I do have doubts about responder skills that seemed to discover the Z30 for the first time
- tried ton modify values in HKEYCURRENT and LOCAL

God damn it ! NOTHING WORKS !!!!!!
I cant understand that a brand like Toshiba leave consumers in that mess because of a so simple setting.

Thank to anyone able to solve the problem

Cheers

Hi, I would like to ask how to change a function assigned to a gesture (e.g. to a 3-finger flick navigation). After the recent APLS driver update it has changed from "back/forward" to "task switch" and I'd like to change it back (w/o reverting the driver, of course). Also applies to other gestures, like e.g. 2-finger tap would be nice to perform a middle button click for me.

I don't see a way to change this from the (IMO bad) driver advanced settings UI, unless purely experimenting with registry settings. I'm not against a registry manual edit, some details on what and where to change would however be appreciated.

Thanks.

Dell Latitude E6430 upgraded to Windows 10 recently, all recent updates. Not sure when, after one of the driver updates, it gives an error at startup after login in:
File Access Denied
You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this file
ApInfo.dll
Company: Alps Electric Co., Ltd.
If I press continue, it gives error that file is in use. Same error for all files in TouchPad driver. If I skip, touchpad works fine, the touchpad setting utilities work fine. But for some reason it wants to delete itself everytime system starts up.
Tried uninstalling the Dell TouchPad driver and reinstalling, several times, but always get the same error after login.
Any idea what could be the problem?

I even tried Lenovo's suggestion of pullling the battery and holding down start for 20 seconds (?). Again, no help.

For about two months now, the touchpad on my Dell Inspiron 1420 has not worked properly. The touchpad does not respond to touch (at all) nor do the buttons work. Additionally, the touchpad driver does not show up in ?Device Manager? at all. The files do still exist under ?Dell Drivers? though and the application can be found under ?programs?.

So far, I have:

-uninstalled and re-installed the touchpad driver (many times). If I remove all files and re-install the drivers, and reboot as instructed by the prompts; the touchpad will usually work until I put the computer to sleep or restart it. Then, once again, no response at all. The icon in the bottom right of the desktop also disappears, as does the driver in ?device manager?. The files still exist though in ?dell drivers? and under ?programs?.

-started the computer in safe mode. The touchpad works fine anytime I am in safe mode.

-disabled all programs (programs that had that option) that run on start up. I did this thinking that a start up program was controlling the touchpad since it starts fine in safe mode. The Alps driver (for the touchpad) that should appear under start up programs does not and I have never disabled it when it did show up. Stopping all programs that run at start up did nothing to fix the touchpad.

-I run AVG anti-virus software every day and have run Ad-Aware antispyware multiple times but this seems to have no effect on the touchpad problem.

Hello

I've just got a new Samsung Laptop, and it has a precision touchpad (from Synaptics) in it. I'm trying to find a way to disable the "Precision" bit of it, so I can use synaptics own drivers, which have more options (specifically, the palm control on it is awful, and the cursor jumps all over the screen when typing, and selects different input areas, etc. and I want to enable one finger scrolling, which isn't possible with Windows/precision). However, I'm really struggling to do this. I've downloaded the drivers from Synaptics site, but when I disable the device, install this driver (by manually selecting it using have disk), and restart, the touchpad doesn't work at all. If I install the driver by running setup, it appears to install fine, but makes no difference. If I let Windows choose the driver, it reverts back to the precision settings that I don't want!

Been searching all day trying to find something, but no joy - any suggestions?

Thanks

Charlie

Hi, I'm new to the forum, so I hope I posted in the correct place. My product: HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab045sa (ENERGY STAR) I have all the usual touchpad gestures working (three finger swipe etc).  However, the recent AU introduced a new gesture to switch virtual desktops. I was really looking forward for this update but this gesture doesn't work! I tried reinstalling the AU update with erasing everything and it still doesn't work! I don't get why it doesn't work as I have a precision touchpad and all the other gestures work except for this new one! Also even though the some gestures work (eg three finger flick), I dont think Win 10 recognises the precision touchpad as under Mouse & Trackpad settings it doesn't say that I have a precision touchpad and so doesn't give me options to alter what the gestures do, like it should. I have the  Synaptics SMBus TouchPad driver 19.2.11.38 (21/07/2016). Would really appreciate your help as I was really looking forward for the new gesture to switch virtual desktops. Thanks.

Hi, I'm running Windows 10 on a Acer Aspire S7-392-6832 laptop. Lately I've been getting jealous of my Macbook friends because of the four-finger swipe that quickly switches the last two open windows (effectively the same as Alt-Tab on my laptop) However, I was wondering why my laptop is not concidered to have a "Windows Precision Touchpad". The drivers that I use (ELANtech - the main driver, and Synaptics) allows for 3 or 4 finger gestures, so surely my expensive 2013 ultrabook laptop has a touchpad that is good enough. Does anyone know how to make the touchpad show up as a "precision" model so I can use the useful gestures (that includes the app-switching in OS X)?  I've tried reinstalling the Synaptics and ELANtech drivers and messing with some other options but that did not work for me.  Thank you.

A:HP Elitebook 8560p touchpad right click issues

Hi All Taught I'll let you know that I've found the solution to my problem it was an issue to do with hardware in particular the keyboard had a spare keyboard lying around which I taught I'll swap it out and it worked the right closest to the keyboard worked all sudden I rebooted several times to confirm and is till worked.i also wanted to do further investigation to see which part of keyboard wasn't working since it had two ribbon cables one for the point stick and one for the actual keybaord.i unplugged the point stick ribbon cable and just left the ribbon cable for the keyboard in and switched the machine on and both right click and left button now wasn't working then I decided to switch the point stick ribbon cable from the working keyboard to one wasn't working and plugged the original keyboard back and all the buttons worked even the right so culprit was the ribbon cable for the point stick. ThanksLekshmen

Hi there. I've recently started having touchpad problems with my beloved HP EliteBook Folio 9470m.  The issue:The Synaptics TouchPad and its 2 buttons (located just below the touchpad) do not work at all. However, the TouchStyk and its 2 buttons (located at the top of the touchpad) do work perfectly fine. How it started:I factory reset the ultrabook using the Windows 10 menu and when it started back up, everything was cleaned, but the touchpad and its 2 buttons (located below the touchpad) didn't work anymore. External mice do work when plugged. Common solutions that didn't work for me:-The orange light at the top-left of the touchpad is not lit up-Reinstalling the official drivers for Windows 10 (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5271102&swItemId=ob_166960_1&swEnvOid=419...)-Installing different versions of drivers and even some for other brands of laptops-Resetting Windows 10 many times-Running driver scanning programs (DriversCloud, DriverScanner) Further notes:No matters which driver I install, the touchpad is always missing in the "Mouse properties" window. The last tab of the window should (if I am not mistaken) have both the Synaptics TouchStyk and TouchPad listed, but only the TouchStyk shows up. It appears as if the driver updated and might have corrupted something, or maybe it's overlapping with the old one and it didn't properly overwrite it (I'm running out of ideas...). I have tried updating it before and it didn't work then either. I can live with this as I don't need it updating urgently however since the last attempt the scroller on the touchpad no longer works. I use the scroller all the time and I don't know what to do, can anyone help?  Thanks

SUBJECT: Touchpad not working. Pointer frozen.
Hello Dell,
This morning I woke up and to my surprise my touchpad has not been working at all. I am currently using a USB mouse, but would still like to know why this has occurred. Up until yesterday, it worked fine. I have had the laptop for almost 1.5 years now, with no problems at all.
Initially when I started the laptop, there was no pointer at all. I had to force shutdown the computer and start again.
When the laptop started up the 2nd time, the pointer was present, but was frozen. So I restarted the computer.
When the laptop started up the 3rd time, the touchpad worked for less than 2 minutes...then froze.
I have gone online looking for a solution, and it seems like nobody has a sure reason as to why this is occurring. The driver is fine and updated...I have checked touchpad settings as well, and everything is on (as in normal settings).
Can someone please help me in figuring out what the problem is?

Thank You

Hello, I updated my OS to Windows 10. Everything works perfectly except of trackpoint/touchpad. The first issue is really a critical one - trackpoint buttons are practically useless. Single button click causes the mouse click event multiple times - for example opens 6 new cards in a web browser instead of one. I've found another post here describing in detail exactly the same problem but the author didn't get any response, neither from HP nor the community: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Elitebook-8570w-built-in-mou... The driver delivered with Windows (which is also listed as compatible with Windows 10 on HP's 8570w support site http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5257503&swItemId=ob_152050_1&swEnvOid=419... version 19.0.12.0, causes the problems I mentioned earlier. The updated one from Synaptics website (19.0.19.1) additionaly prevents the OS from detecting the middle button... Additionally, the only gestures I can use are the basic ones - no advanced 3- or 4-finger ones (please don't tell me that the hardware is incompatible because similar gestures worked on Windows 8.1 I used earlier). I have a dual boot with Win10 and Linux and on Linux everything works flawlessly, so it's definitely not a hardware problem What should I do to make my touchpad and trackpoint fully functional?

Hello HP? As you can see, there are multiple Elitebook 8750W users with this same problem on Windows 10!

I have an Hp EliteBook 8670w which has a touchpad and 6 buttons. 3 on top and 3 on bottom. I don't have big hands, however, I bump the touchpad on occasion and then the cursor moves and I delete content. I have an external mouse, but I really want to disable the touchpad and buttons. So I tried the regular options.  I double tapped the upper left of the touchpad. to no avail.  There is no Synaptics tab on the mouse window ( in control panel) so I tried to install from the HP site and it downloaded, but did not install.  There is no touchpad option at all - for me to modify.  I even tried to go into the mouse via ps2 option and disable and there is not a disable option available  Help

Hi there
I'm wondering how to approach this problem. When I use the default setting of "tap in lower-right corner to right click", the area it uses for the bottom right actually uses the majority of the touchpad. I end up with the left most 1cm being left click and the other 10cm being right, which isn't usable.
I have tried switching to 2-finger tap for right click but a number of programs don't seem to register it correctly (I think that's a win 10 issue), and also at random restarts the touchpad will act as though this is disable and its settings are all default, despite not being in the actual settings menu (again a win 10 issue?)
Is there a specific driver I can use to improve the touchpad behaviour or gain more control? Is there anything I can do to change the size of the right click width so it only takes up half?
Thanks

I was recently playing a game, the touchpad has been having no issues before this, but during the game, the touchpad randomly stopped working, I restarted my computer and it hasn't worked since. I've attempted to install the Alps multi-touchpad drivers (it isn't meant for M6500, but it is meant for windows 10), but none of my attempts at installing have been successful it seems. Pretty much every time I install it, it says the installation has failed and doesn't give me a reason. I've also attempted to install the synaptics drivers (Is meant for the M6500, isn't meant for windows 10) that initially came on the computer, this successfully installed but didn't succeed in making my touchpad work. I would attempt to auto install the drivers, but when I go to the device manager, my touchpad no longer shows up in any of the options. The computer does, however, work with a mouse, but I'd prefer to have the trackpad working.

Hi DART737,
If the system was working fine earlier, then perform a system restore to restore the machine to an earlier point where it was working fine - http://dell.to/1Sg6khF
Update the BIOS if possible - http://dell.to/2eGY1Q5- restart the system and check in device manager under mouse and pointing devices or check for any unknown devices.
Reset the BIOS defaults and check again - press f2 on startup.
Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.These are onboard diagnostics and they might possible pick some error if the hardware is not functional.
Restart and check in Safe mode - press f8 on startup.
If nothing works, try reseating the touchpad / palmrest cable and check - download the service manual here - http://dell.to/2e8Ofpa
Lastly, your system model is not compatible to work with Win 10 - see this link - http://dell.to/2f3nCj3. Although the system might work with Win10, you might not find drivers available for win 10. The system might not be completely functional or stable, such as it might the issue you have encountered now.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email) for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

Just got a brand-new Precision Mobile Workstation 7510 about a week ago. Out of the box and prior to installing any updates or new software, the touchpad will, randomly every minute or so, stop responding to input, and the cursor would very slowly inch itself (usually creeping slightly up and to the right). This would occur for anywhere from a few to 10 or so seconds before the touchpad would start working again. No change in the past week.
The pointer stick works as normal during the time the touchpad is not responding.
I have tried all of the suggestions I found recommended or could think of:

Reinstalling Windows from the factory image (did this twice)
Reinstalling the driver (I already had the latest one, but I both reinstalled it and then deleted it and reinstalled a freshly-downloaded version from the most recent version provided on Dell.com)
Disabling the pointer stick
Disabling gestures
Unplugging all peripherals, including the AC adapter
Rebooting in Safe Mode (still occurs, though perhaps the normal touchpad driver is still loaded in Safe Mode)

I was about to call Dell (I have Pro Support) thinking that it is a hardware problem, but interestingly, there is no sign of the problem in the mouse-enabled Dell GUI BIOS set-up screen. I would assume that if it were a hardware issue, it would still show up there.
FWIW, the Dell touchpad icon in the system tray sometimes, but not always, displays touchpad input in the center of the touchpad when this occurs. The cursor move... Read more

If you haven't done so I suggest uninstalling the touch pad driver altogether and then test.  Does the problem still occur regardless that the driver has been removed or does the cursor stay put all of a sudden?
If you notice the problem still even with the driver uninstalled I suggest a service.  If the course starts behaving after uninstalling the touch pad driver replacing the touch pad may not make much of a difference if any.
I have sent out a friend request, If you are in the US I may be able to help process a service if needed.

Hello,
I tried to install the newly released Dell Precision Optimizer v3.5.5 (A00) August 18, 2016 on my Precision 5510, running Windows 7 64bit.
During the installation, an error panel pops up with this text:

I have found in my startup list something called Alps Electric Co Ltd. I understand that this is a pointing device to do with Windows but don't know more than that. I use a laptop with a separate keyboard and mouse and use Vista SP1. Can I safely disable Alps from my Startup list?

I was given this Alps MD-5000
I have read many how to's on installation.
I got the driver from and joined the Yahoo Alps community group
My PC does not see the printer when its plugged into the parallel port
when I try to add printer in control panel and then direct the path to the driver location it says it cannot copy certain files and asks from me to point it to the location. I find the file, point it install program to it and it says again that it cannot copy the file over and over and over
file is almd224k.dl_ just like that

I have never seen an install program request a file, then I find it and the install will not copy it even though it is RIGHT THERE

any idea on this?

and any other step by steps installs on the Alps MD-5000 would be great, link or typed

A:Alps MD-5000 woes

found that I needed to move th entire folder up to a level closer to the desktop, don't know why this happens. But when you have my docs/downloaded drivers/printer/alps500/driver and try to run it from that location IT WILL FAIL TO SEE FILES
Move it to
My documents / Alps 5000 (as in folders) then run it....bingo!

On my laptop (Presario C700), after about 10 minutes I get a message saying that the alps pointing devise isn't working. However, there seems to be no problems with the curser/pointing device. Why is this message coming up? Is there anything I can or should do? (I really don't want to do anything unless necessary)

Thanks

I bought an Alps MD-4000 printer new in the box, but it has win 95 drivers & I have a Win XP Pro sp-2 w/updates op system. XP installed a 'generic driver' & will not install from the disk - 'too old' I guess. I need to print white with this printer. Alps no longer (since March of 2007) supports ANY of ther printers & has NO drivers or anything else for them. Any suggestions on finding/getting XP Pro drivers that are from ALPS & has the MD-1000 'toolkit' that allows 'overlay'ing & capability of printing in white ? ? ?

Thanks

What is the correct model number for your Compaq Presario?

Are you using XP or Vista?

Here is version 7.4.202.102 for Vista. It's an .exe file, so download and save it, then double-click it to start the install process, then restart.

Hi There!

I have searched everywhere and tried everything to get the alps driver on my hardware working but every install file I find comes back and says I need a 64 bit version of dpinst.exe

The ONLY reason I need this is because I want to switch off touch to tap on the touchpad as it is very annoying if you accidentally touch it when typing.

If anyone could help me out that would be great.
