I have a Dell Latitude D630. It has an admin password for the bios. Nothing is locked except for the settings. I can't change any of the settings in the bios. It lets me boot to windows just fine though. My question is, since I don't know that admin password for the bios, if I upgrade the bios firmware, will the admin password be deleted? Since I'm flashing the bios, I would think that all the settings will be lost. Is that the case?
Didn't you reply here, and say it worked (after the unusual 9th try ) http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic109612-109.html#post747024

How remove password BIOS(Admin password & canfigure setup),
Turn off computer. Find the battery on the motherboard. Take it out for a couple minutes. Put it back in and restart computer. This should reset cmos and solve your problem.
Right before this problem happened, I had suddenly experienced a weird screen glitch and knew to restart my computer. Now, it asks for a BIOS admin or power on password which I did not set. What the heck is going on, and what could I do to fix this?? --WHAT-I-HAVE-TRIED--I have tried "12345"I have tried a blank fieldI have tried "biosPower"-------------------------- --COMPUTER-INFO--Product: HP Stream Notebook 11 (no touchscreen)Product version: 8.1 (x64 architecture)---------------------- If I need to put any more info, just ask.
@GlitchMasta47? At the password screen, hit enter 3 times and you should receive a halt code - enter this on the site below. https://bios-pw.org/ Regards, DP-K9 more replies

Reset User Account Password
I did a clean install of XP pro and am the sole user with a user account password. Upon installing the recovery console it asks me for the administrator's password. When I enter my user account password it, it says it is the wrong password. I'm I to assume that the password that I'm entering on boot up is not the same as the 'administrator password for the recovery console? What am I doing wrong? How do I put a administrator password in so I can get into the recovery console?? Any help is appreciated. Please reply to:
it is not the same
even if u are the only user and u have admin rights, there is still an ccount called 'administrator' and this is hidden unless u restart into safe mode or manually type in user: 'administrator'
the password is therefore different then your username password (unless during the setup u entered the same password as u did for your username)
if u didnt put any 'administrator' password, try just pressing 'enter' when asked in recovery console but remember dont put your username there but 'administrator' in the 'user' field
I am trying to do a windows xp repair installation and it is asking for an administrator password. The person who owns the computer and who set it up said she never had a password.
Is there a way around this?
I can not get to a dos prompt. If I try to boot off the hard drive I get NTLDR missing. If I boot from the OS cd I get sent to the installation & setup routine.
She has not backed up her data so I don't want to risk losing it. Suggestions?
A tech replaced her motherboard recently, she was able to use it for a few days before it started powering down again. Dell sent a replacement fan and I replaced it. She had been getting the NTLDR message before bringing the machine to me, so it's not something I caused. It also isn't likely the other repair tech didn't connect something because it worked for her for a few days after he was in there. (It's a laptop so I'm not eager to rip it apart if I don't have to).
Thanks for suggestions.

"Did you keep your root partition/drive as a FAT32/16 area? If you did the solution is easy. Get any Windows9x boot disk and boot up to it, then CD to X:\WINNT\system32\config and delete SAM (no extension), SAM.SAV, and SAM.LOG. The SAM without an extension is actually an exe file. Those three files control the usernames and passwords. Delete them, reboot, and there will be NO admin password to worry about. Recreate users as before and this time keep the admin password"
Try just pressing Enter when prompted for the password. If no password has been set you will (or should) be set to go.

Dear Customer, Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you. This is to inform you that all HP Business Notebooks such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models infact they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial Number and thecode is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case. Hello, I'm needing a BIOS reset password. The current halt code is 5C533F4A. I have tried https://bios-pw.org/ and the results do not work. Thank you.-Timothy
Hi, Your notebook is producing a hexadecimal halt code which is stored in ram as a 'one off' and will be re-calculated after a reboot. This indicates you have one of the later AMI bios's and unfortunately none of the current code generators will work for this - surprisingly, you can still remove a power on password from the machine by removing the rtc cell ( leave the power board connected ) then hold down the power button for 60 seconds before re-inserting the rtc. The bad news is that the rtc is on the 'wrong' side of the system board so will require quite a lot of disassembly - see Page 115 of your Maintenance & Service Guide. Regards, DP-K7 more replies

In the process of installing windows 7 Professional I discovered that I could not get into the BIOS or setup because it was password protected. I?ve tried a number of things including installing HP ProtectTools Security stuff and it seems that all that has done is to create more login passwords. I can now get into setup but as a user but not as an administrator and so I cannot change password. There is also another screen that shows up where I must enter a password and I?m not sure if that?s happening because of the HP Protect Tools that I installed and then removed or because of something in the BIOS. I?ve uninstalled HP Protect Tools and reinstall windows 7 and I still see both password screens. I attempted to update the BIOS using a file downloaded from the HP support website but cannot because I don?t know the admin password for access the BIOS.

Is there a default password for XP home that is used if one does not set a password?
if you never did set up an administrative password, then just press enter. If that does not work, then unfortunately according to the rules we cannot help you bypass a password since it would seem there was one installed at one time.6 more replies

If you know much about recovery disc, I think you will know recovery disc is the best choice for Windows 7 admin password reset besides another administrator. The recovery disc includes password reset disk and system recovery disc. Password reset disk is easy to create before Windows 7 locked. While if you want to create password reset disk after you couldn?t log on to Windows 7, you have to ask for help from third-party software. For example, Windows Password Genius is conceivable option. System recovery disc can be instead of installation disc, if you have back up your Windows 7 Home Premium. But if you have not done that, it doesn?t matter. System recovery disc also could be created after you are unable to boot your Windows 7, as long as you find a computer with same Windows operational system. You have to create system recovery disc on it. For example, 64-bit System Repair Disc can only be created on a 64-bit Windows 7. You can check the properties about computer through Control Panel ? System and Security ? System, or right click the Computer and choose Properties. Now let?s see how recovery disc reset Windows 7 Home Premium admin password.1. If your trying to change a bios setting or Reformat any of the newer Dell Laptop's you may run into this issue! There is an Administrator password you will be prompted for. I believe this is created at the factory and unplugging the bios battery no longer does the trick! I tried many different passwords combos and found that:
<dell> all lowercase and minus the brackets works for a few of the newer Dell Laptops
That makes no sense at all. If it were true then Dell would have to provide the password as part of the information it provides to customers when they buy the laptop. Anything else would subject them to being sued.1 more replies

so, i have a 6530B that i got from a relative, and i must say, it is extremly difficult to work with... I want to do a factory restore, and to do so i need to get through the bios admin password. I cant even boot from a USB to do a fresh install... Would it be easier to have HP support help me with the bios password, or should i just put in a new HD and do a fresh install, using another pc as a surrogate for the install(cant get past bios on tis one)? from what ive read spending the day trying to find a way around the password, that there really is no workaround... Kind of obnoxious... but its a business machine so makes sense...More replies
HP PAVILION AB-063CL Locked with BIOS ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD. Message after 3 attempts states: SYSTEM DISABLEDA [6087979E] How can I disable this? Thank you!
The bad news is that the rtc can be on the 'wrong' side of the system board so will require quite a lot of disassembly. Regards, DP-K4 more replies
I purchased this pre-owned and would like to update the bios. It wont let me do so unless i give it the admin password. How to take the password off ?
SOLUTION: This is what I did and worked like a dream. Contacted HP, told them the problem. They "escalated the case," took my info. The next day I was emailed a file called SMC.bin. It is formatted specifically for my machine, has to match the UUID. Copied file to FAT 32 formatted jump drive, booted it as per the email instructions, reset bios password.I did this via chat on HP's website.Screwing with the bios battery will not work on Elitebook...10 more replies

I have an older HP900 laptop which is a nice size to take in our motor home. However, it overheats after running for about 15 minutes. I understand there is a bios update that turns the cooling fan on sooner but I can't get into the bios because of password protection. Any ideas on how to crack the password or any pins to short to reset it?
The laptop will run fine if I rais it off the table and have a fan blowing on it from behind. Cooling fan in laptop runs, but it only comes on shortly before a shutdown if I am not running an additional fan blowing under it.
thanks for any ideas or help

I recently found myself locked out of my system's BIOS having never set an admin password myself. Since then I've had many problems including forced reboots/physical memory dumps while trying to perform scans requested in the malware detection directions for this site. I don't know specifically what is wrong, but have had software detect anonymous users logging on to my computer remotely without appearing as users in the control panel.I've reinstalled the operating system counteless times and always find the same problems within hours if not minutes of installation completion. Finally, and I'm not sure if it's relevant, but Windows only recognizes some 148 odd Gb storage space on my 160 Gb hard drive. Also, the computer will boot normally, but not in safe mode or any other diagnostic condition; when trying this a screen comes up listing all installed drivers and computer freezes.Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks,DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Ted Cassel at 15:50:36.10 on Thu 03/25/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.3574.3139 [GMT -7:00]============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchsvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcssvchost.exesvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exesvchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS... Help! I have a vintage IBM R51 laptop running XPSP3. Yesterday I updated Mozilla Firefox to the latest version and things went to hell. The update took a couple of hours, which was my first sign thing were going sideways. Normal boot process takes forever, with continuous disk accesses. I can barely get the systme manager window open.I can safe boot, but cannot run AVG to see if there is a virus. AVG reports an error and closes. This is the paid for AVG, not the free version. If I try to start the XP Recovery Console, it asks if I want to start Windows on drve C:, but then prompts for an Administrator password.I NEVER set up an administrator password. I am not even sure this problem is a virus, but I am sure I need help (PLEASE!) I was able to run FRST (from BartPE) and here are the results: Scan result of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST) (x86) Version: 30-06-2013 03Ran by SYSTEM on 30-06-2013 18:54:31Running from D:\BleepingComuterMicrosoft Windows XP (X86) OS Language:Internet Explorer Version 8Boot Mode: RecoveryThe current controlset is ControlSet001ATTENTION!:=====> FRST is updated to run from normal or Safe mode to produce a full FRST.txt log and Addition.txt log.==================== Registry (Whitelisted) ==================HKLM\...\Run: [SynTPEnh] %ProgramFiles%\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe [1323008 2008-07-04] (Synaptics, Inc.)HKLM\...\Run: [BluetoothAuthenticationAgent] rundll32.exe bthprops.cpl,,Bluetoo... So I boot up Windows (XP Pro SP2) and after the loading screen, I get a black screen. I've googled the problem and can't find a way to fix it without using the recovery console. The problem is, as far as I remember, my Admin password is blank. However, when I press enter at the prompt without typing anything, it says I have the wrong password, so it's probably something else that I don't remember.
What I need is either another way to fix the black screen without recovery console, or a way to find or change the admin password.
I have a separate hard drive I can use as an alternate Windows install, so I can get into the HD of my original install, but can't access the original Windows.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
