Hey Lenovo Forum:

I'm having a battery charging problem that seems slightly different from any on this forum so far. I just acquired a T430 running Windows 7 (64-bit) like a charm. After a few issues with the audio drivers, everything has been running smoothly.

Abruptly, yesterday, when I plugged it into the wall socket (the same socket that it had sucessfully charged on earlier) it failed to charge. Thinking it was the outlet, I tested it. The outlet and adapter are both working fine (the adapter powers the computer no problem with the battery removed from the system). The lock switch on the battery is in the propper position (i've tried both). The battery is not overheated (it's cool to the touch). I tried removing everything and holding the power button (apparently that discharges some built up charge in the system) then reconnecting the battery and AC adapter, nothing.

I just downloaded the power manager which (when the laptop is, in fact, running off of AC power (the battery charge indicator hasn't draining in hours of continuous use) reads:

Hi i recently bought a lenovo z51, but i am disapointed in the battery life, i have taken the laptop apart and can see that there is loads of space which is not being used. I google for a new battery and found this option, so my question is this, would it fit my laptop and if so would it bring about much more battery life?  http://www.chargers-pc.co.uk/lenovo-laptop-batteries-c-52_11/original-laptop-battery-lenovo-z5170-48... this is the one that is currently in the laptop:http://www.chargers-pc.co.uk/lenovo-laptop-batteries-c-52_11/laptop-battery-lenovo-z41-z51-z4170-z41... I only get around 2 hours usage, which is unacceptable, and you can see why as the battery is about the same size as most tablets which is rediculous ThanksGeorge

I have a Yoga 500, battery drains from 100% to 5% in 80mins.   This is with it just sitting there doing nothing.  Is this normal?   I sent it off for repair to Medion- it's come back with no comments other than it's been tested and everything is OK.   So - what's the average batter life - surely it should be up around 5 hours, not 1.5 hours?

Hi Guys, I'm very fine with my P50 (4k-Screen, Modell: 20EQS00600). Everything is great except battery life. Before I upgraded to Windows 10 Anniversary, I had a battery life for about 7 hours which was great for a power machine like this. After upgrading to it, my battery life is now about 3 Hours and I didn't change anything. My workload is also the same. There is also no process in the background which is killing the battery and the Intel graphic chip is working fine. I absolutly have no clue what I can do. But honestly, I don't want to reinstall, because this would take ages.

Does anyone notice wildly varying and/or continuously varying battery life time estimates from Lenovo Power Manager and Windows 7 over the course of their laptop use? Is this normal? I find it hard to believe it is normal due to other laptops running Win 7 I've used that provide steadily declining (and predictable battery run times) vs. the remaining battery life time revisions that I've seen on my Lenovo P50. Thoughts and/or suggestions?

Hi guys, I've had my Yoga 900 since December 2015 and I enjoy this ultrabook.  I am concerned about the battery life though. The specs say up to 9 hours of battery life, but based on my usage I would have to say that I am only confident of 6 hours worth of charge. My typical use is as follows: 1) Approximately 75% screen brightness (225 nits)2) Combo of WiFi with multiple Google Chrome tabs open, video and music usage mixed in my typical day. Those of you with the Yoga 900, would you say that this is normal or typical? Thanks, Nik

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 2 14 for school and general purposes. In general I really like it, but I have noticed that the battery life is not like the 9h (or was it 6h?) that were advertised. I am getting around 2,5-3,5h of battery life, while I'm doing some light tasks like surfing the web. I should also note that this is with power saving mode on. Have I gotten a bad battery or is this basically what I can expect with this product?  You can see the specs in this link: http://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?e=3019464

Hello Guys,I got myself a T430, that runs fine while connected to the charger. However, when unplugged it immediately turns off. I suspected the battery to be dead, but I put it into a different shell and the battery is fully charged.I also checked if the power connector could be damaged, but then it wouldn't power the laptop and charge the battery. Also it's not the "battery connected, not charging issue". There are no issues, as long the machine is connected to the power cord.Any idea, which part might be casuising it, so I could look for a replacement? Also non-hw suggestions are welcome

I bought a "new old stock" battery for my T430. The Ebay seller had good feedback and a UK business address so I thought it would be genuine. I thought T430 batteries had a validation chip and that prevented fake batteries from working. When it arrived, I found that the full charge capacity was less than 100% and it had 6 charging cycles. I also saw that the bar code shown by the power manager software was different from the one printed on the battery. Also, the printed barcoce numbers seem to be in a different font from my other thinkpad batteries. I read that the manufacturinbg date is part of the barcode - does anybody know how to work it out? The charge is also very erratic. It will be showing 80% full one minute then go to zero! Does this sound like a fake battery or just one that hasn't been stored correctly> I emailed the seller but he hasn't got back to me yet.

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I?m sorry to hear that your Lenovo ThinkPad T430 is not powering on.
Check if it's something to do with your AC adapter or battery. Insufficient power might cause some of those issues as well. Take the battery out and try to power on your laptop with the charger only. Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Try starting the laptop using good known AC adapter and battery.

Try connecting the device to an external monitor and check if it displays properly.

Please do let me know the happenings!

I have been using a T430 for past two and half years and never had a problem until last week. When I returned from trip and started my laptop, the battery showed to be "plugged in and not charging". The battery management started switching between 0% and 100% in every second. Even though the battery was not charging, I continued to use my laptop with Windows 10 OS was through the AC adaptor. Then, I decided to update the OS to Windows 10 Anniversary without fixing the battery issue. During the installation process, the laptop hibernated after 60 seconds and required mulitple power ons to complete entire installation. The problem persisted with Windows 10 Anniversay as well. Now, I can not work with my battery on as it goes to hibernation mode every 60 seconds. Meantime, I have found a temporary solution to work without a battery. I have uninstalled the battery drivers after removing battery and restating with the battery. This has not helped yet. Any help to fix the charging and hibernation issues will be highly appreciated.

My Lenovo T430 won't turn on. I am on an engineering trip in Liberia right now and am trying to get it working. It worked last night. I plugged it in when we had electricity last night and this morning, it is not turning on.  I unplugged the battery and AC adapter and drained the excess charge. It still did not turn on. However, when I put the battery back in and then plug in the AC adapter, the battery led blinks green 3 times, blinks a 4th long time, blinks once more and shuts off. The first three blinks could correspond to the normal AC battery status indicator. Thank you in advance for your help.

A:ThinkPad (T430) battery compatibility issue

HelloThe batteries for T410/420 are not compatible with T430, even Lenovo genuine ones. Because of T430 features hardware authentification of the battery installed. The batteries for old laptops like T410/420 don't have such features (authentification chips inside). This chip missing causes the battery being installed in the T430 can't be charged. So, you have to purchase Lenovo original battery for T430.

Hi all, First of all I would like to take a moment and write my history with this experience. Last year I had a Dell Precision M4500 (i7-720QM and nVidia Quadro FX880M) which it had to be my eGPU machine. But using FL Studio alot, the cpu didn't kept the pace so I had to make a change. My research got to my Thinkpad T430 because Ivy Bridge platform can get you up to 90% of peak performance of your eGPU solution. When I had my Dell M4500, I have ordered the EXP GDC V8 Expresscard solution at a pretty fair and decent price (Christmas sales) from Banggood. Shipping to Romania was quite long, almost 2 months. In the meantime bought from a local guy, a Dell DA-2 220W power adapter which I heard it is plug'n'play. After arrival, I found out that I don't have the PCI-E power adapter for the graphic card, in my case a Gigabyte Radeon 6850 OC 1GB. That's the only card I have so, I was aware that I might need a display monitor. After another months of searching, found out on Banggood the holy PCI-E adapter specialy for EXP GDC solution. To be assured , bought 2 cables (just in case ) because the shipping was 1 month and 2 weeks (long, I know!). Well, last night I was dying to fire it up, so I put my Panasonic TV ( don't have a display monitor, lame, I know...) and put all cables and adapters together, the expresscard in T430 and fire it. My specs :i7-3610QM, 16GB HyperX Impact CL9, 1600x900, Intel HD4000 iGPU, Windows 7 64bit.After Windows loaded, my Radeon 6850 was found in D... First time posting, and not very educated when it comes to computers so bear with me. My screen cracked today on my T430. It still had image on the screen but very distorted. I have a working backup T430. I pulled the screen out of the back up and put in my main comp. My main will boot up (you can even hear the windows jingle but the screen had no power. I then tested both the good screen and cracked screen on the backup T430 and both lit up fine. But neither screen will work on the main T430. i then switched the cable that goes from the motherboard to screen but still same situation, works fine on the back up but not main. I hooked it up to my TV through the HDMI cable and I get the display/homescreen on the TV, and I can use the laptop like that. One thing I did notice is that when I boot the laptop up or shut it down there is a very very very slight change in the screen darkeness. I only notice this because the sun was behind me and shining on the screen. When I noticed this it had the craked screen installed. I tried to adjust the screen brightness with the laptop running but it didnt change anything Do you guys/gurls have any input or solutions? Thanks in advanced

Lenovo T430 running win7 home premium 64bit.

Wife purchased new in 2013 and it has been problematic almost from the get-go. The machine was very slow to operate, slow to execute various mouse commands and such. The machine had some sort of warning message pop up in constantly the lower left corner that said something to the effect of the back-up section of the drive was full and needed addressed. It would not allow any modification to the drive(s), the files, or the partitions via the OS tools.

Wife got frustrated with it and took it into the local computer repair place to have it fixed. They 'cleaned it up', saying it 'should run faster now', but the error message was not eliminated and the machine ran only marginally faster.

Wife purchased a new laptop and now I have the Lenovo. I used it for a month before becoming completley frustrated with it. I tried some things like scaning for viruses, malware etc but found little to nothing in that regard. The slowness kept getting worse and worse to the point that the machine was pretty much unusable.

In a fit of frustration and short of just throwing the thing away, I formated the drive using Darik's Boot and Nuke. Then installed a full version of Vista, then an upgrade version of win7 home premium. These two installs seem to go ok and the machine is booting up fine in win7. The error message is gone, as is the slowness as near as I can tell.

Hello,

I recently had my corrupted hard drive replaced, and while they reinstalled Windows 7 Professional for me, they didn't install some Lenovo drivers that I was used to (like a trackpad one that enabled two-finger scrolling).  Since I installed the Realtek Audio driver, I haven't had sound in certain applications.  The Windows startup and login sounds are fine, as is audio in Windows Media Player, but when I try to play a song in iTunes, the diamond showing the song's progress doesn't move and the play/pause/skip buttons don't work.  On Youtube, videos play fine, but there's no sound.  It's the same on other online streaming websites like CBS.

Occasionally, the sound will come back after startup and stay that way for up to a day, but it's never permanent.  At first, I thought this had something to do with reinstalling the Realtek driver.  I took my laptop to the IT guys at my college, and it seemed like they had fixed it after installing a package of Lenovo drivers, but the sound disappeared after a day or so.  Two days ago, I reinstalled the Realtek driver myself and the sound came back again for a day.  However, I tried doing it again today, with no luck.

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Best,
Pearl

A:Audio problems after Lenovo T430 hard drive replacement

Looks like I fixed it for the time being.  Turned out to be separate problems.  To fix iTunes, I opened Quicktime preferences and under the audio tab, clicked "Select Audio Playback and Recording Devices" and selected the Realtek speakers.  The streaming video problem was possibly Chrome-exclusive.  I downloaded both Shockwave and Flash.  After installing Flash, sound worked fine on IE.  I then disabled the Shockwave plugin in Chrome, which apparently fixed the audio in Chrome.  I've seen people on the internet talking about problems following from there being multiple Flash plugin files in Chrome, but I only had one file.

The BSOD is not the only problem I'm having. While using the Laptop, sometimes the screen starts to shake, then the laptop shuts down without showing the BSOD. Sometimes, the BSOD appears. Each time I've to restore the Loptop to a previous point in order to make it work.

I've tried to use driver?s verifier, however, when I set it up to work, the BSOD appears.
Attached is the recommended ZIP file to analyze the problem, only two dmp files are available.

Assuming that they are all designed to fit your laptop, you need to look at the ratings. Basically, you want the one with the greatest Ah (amp?re-hour) as that should last longest. Although this usually means the battery with the most cells, it doesn't always follow. Check their specifications.

Battery Issue - Lenovo V570 (Laptop) - Battery Model L09S6Y02

First off I for the most part do not use the battery. It is normally detached from the laptop. I only attach it to periodically charge it and test prior existing charges' performance.

O.K. here is the problem. I attach battery attachment, computer does not make it to the window screen more often than not. When it does, it freezes at the please wait loading screen.

I rarely use the battery at all, but I want all my equipment up and functional. It's life should still be good for I periodically recharge it. I think since I've had the laptop I've only recharged it a total of 6 or 7 times and that's been a year or so.

I, for the moment at least have the battery working power adapter attached. What did I do? I uninstalled Avast (freeware version) ?

I learned from prior experience that running two of any system utility software can cause problems, but it normally restricts itself to what it is protecting. Then I remembered: "If you remove the possible whatever is left however in probable must be the truth."

Next phase of testing is test the battery on it's own.

I recently purchased an x230 and everything is perfect but the battery fit.  It moves up and down slightly.  I know there are many posts in the lenovo forums for all different models that the battery fits lose in "x" model and solutions of putting paper / foam / tape to make the battery fit tighter.   What I'm wondering is if anyone has actually had the problem fixed by lenovo.  I've read a few posts where a user has had the base piece of the case replaced (where the battery fit's into) and that has solved the problem.  I'm still within my return period on my x230 and am awaiting a call back from tech support to see if there is anything they will do but I don't think I will keep it if they can't fix it.   I'm just curious has anyone actually had luck by replacing the base piece.  From what i've read a replacement battery hasn't worked for anyone.  Also, I know everyone says its by design for thermal purposes but I haven't actually seen any official confirmation of this from lenovo.   Thanks.

As a follow up, I'm just curious if this is a widespread issue?  Anyone have loose battery in their x230 / x220?  I'm not talking about it falling out...but just a few millimeters of wiggle room.  Basically when i pick mine up or place it down, I can feel / hear the battery move.  I'm just trying to get an idea if this is a real problem or thats just how every thinkpad is.  I called support and they are sending someone to replace the base panel and we'll see if that fixes it.  I'll update this post when it get's replaced.   Edit* I also asked the lenovo support rep if they had heard of this issue and they said no, never.  I don't see how this is possible as if you do a google search for thinkpad loose battery there are many results.

Hopefully I get a solution to this question but my Lenovo Y50 has not been charging even after I thought it was my laptop charger was broken I bought a new one of the same exact type and It still didn't work and did the exact same thing as it did with my old charger. (i had this laptop for a year) What did the laptop exactly do? Well my laptop when I plugged it in it didn't work unless I set it up in a certain way to where I wiggled the charger tip around untill it finally said It was charging and I had to hold it into that position like a statue or else it would unplug if it moved an inch. That's not even the worst part! My chargers also heat at the tip. By heat I mean it literally gets so hot I burn myself on touching the plastic part and the metal part was very hot, when this happened on my new charger I made sure to unplug it right away to avoid doing any damage to it. Solutions I have already tried:Went into my control panel -> device manager -> Uninstalled both of the battery things like the ac adapter and the other thing I don't remember what it was called -> reinstalled -> Worked for a bit but not 100% gauranteed and after a while it didn't work Can't do a battery gauge reset because charger always unplugs Already tried BIOS does nothing. Don't even tell me to restart my laptop lol. Summary:Y50 won't charge, Have to have charger at certain angle to chargeTip over heatsdid everything in device manager to fix itno driver up... Hello, In august I bought new Lenovo B50-80 notebook. One month ago, I was checking HWmonitor and I saw that the battery wear level is 11%. PowerShell battery test in Windows 10 says the same ? at one of a charge battery wear. Which I think 11% is to much. I use my notebook as a secondary PC. In two months of usage, I charged max 15 times (and before always depleted to 15%).I tried RMA the battery, but I did not have any success. They say that the battery is OK, if notebook does not automatically shut down.I would like to know if this is normal wear for battery and the answer from RMA guys.If it is not, how can I contact directly Lenovo? Please advise.Best regards.B.

Hi, i have a few questions about battery life, i would like to maintain my battery life to last as long as possible. It was never brilliant but a can get about 2 hours out of it. One thing that i though was perhaps a problem from stuff i heard is that it is not good for it to leave it charging when its fully charged because of the way its managed it keeps putting little bits of charge in, is that true with win 7. Because i like to paly games with the laptop plugged in for performance so its annoying about charging it. There also the whole thing about letting it run flat then fully charge it. Just any tips on what you do and whether the above is acutally true would be appreciated, thanks

We do get quite a few complaints about the x360 battery life. What kind of runtime are you seeing? Are you trying to follow a plan to extend battery runtime? The biggest single thing is screen brightness. Also, since we are a User to User Forum we have no way to know what HP is doing in response to specific complaints. I do know there is no other battery available except the factory part.

Hi everyone!

I couldn't find a discussion on battery life in Windows 7, so I decided to create a thread.

I recently installed Windows 7 Build 6956 on my laptop to try it for some time. I'm liking it so far. Using the Balanced power option in 7 I'm getting maybe 20 minutes longer battery life compared to using the Power Saver option in Vista. I'm guessing this is a good improvement since Balanced still allows full performance when needed and Vista cuts performance. I haven't tried Power Saver in 7 yet, but I guess it might give me a little extra time.

Has anyone else timed their battery life?

PS: I also noticed a difference in wake up time from sleep when I open the laptop lid. Windows 7 takes just a second to wake up and Vista takes about 4-5 seconds. Has anyone else noticed this difference?

Hey hethoofd,

I havent got around to running 7 on battery yet, but yes I am suitably impressed by Startup, wakeup, from both sleep and hibernate and reboot times.

The power saving that I have seen so far seems also pretty impressive. I am mainly surfing the forums not the best of tests but it does allow me to see how 7 switches down during periods of inactivity.

A:Y40 - Battery life only last 30 min

In response to customer reports of unexpected battery gauge behavior on Y40-70 and Y40-80 laptops, Lenovo determined the battery gauge software is performing as expected. The unusual gauge results being reported are a reflection of the battery reaching end of life.

Lenovo has released a Service TIP to assist customers with obtaining battery replacements under warranty, or if out of warranty, to find a replacement battery from Lenovo-approved vendors. The Service TIP can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/sf16-I0023

The part numbers for Y40-70/80 batteries are:
Y40 SP/A L13M4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500248
Y40 LG L13L4P01 7.4V48Wh 4cell bty (Y40-70/Y40-80) 121500249 substitute part 121500251

To determine which battery came with your Y40 notebook, instructions for removing the bottom cover can be found in the Hardware Maintenance Manual pdf here. An alternative to opening your system (which does not void warranty) is to search for batteries using the model/product number located on the bottom cover.

I purchased a HP Envy 15 x360 TouchSmart Laptop and the battery life is horrible.  Another way for HP to make money. I do not recommend this product and want to make sure everyone is aware of the additional cost involved with it's purchase.  I have only had this laptop since 2/13/15 and already the battery will not charge.  You either have the option of buying an extended warranty at the time of purchase (as I recently learned) to cover only the first battery replacement or if you choose not to do that then you must pay to have the battery replaced.  It has to be sent in for this to be done or you have to be a computer tech yourself in order to change out the battery as there is not access to the battery from the back of the laptop.  The entire back has to be taken off to get to it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS LAPTOP FOR THIS REASON.  I love the touch screen and the overall function but the battery issue is not optimal.  I can't believe that for the price I paid I now am forced to spend addtional money in the amount of hundreds of dollars to have it working properly.

Hi, I have a notebook Envy m6-w105dx and it is mostly used at home. Because of that, it is always connected to the power. Since I am not able to take the battery off, I was wondering if being connected to the power all the time could damage the battery or to decrease its average life. If I am damaging the battery, what would it be the solution for that problem?

Solved!
View Solution.

A:m6-w105dx Battery life

This is a common question. Being connected to power all the time is not damaging the battery, but it may result in slightly less life. The battery has an electronic chip inside that counts cycles and if you turn it off let it sit for a couple days and then turn the computer back on it may have to charge the battery back up from below 95% and it will read that as a cycle and the battery is set to stop working after a certain number of cycles to keep it from being a power hazard. Old lithium ion batteries can become a hazard if they have too many charge/discharge cycles on them so batteries are actually pre-programmed to stop working before they are really chemically dead.  The battery cannot overcharge, however, so having it connected to power all the time is not a bad thing as far as that goes. The cycles can only happen if you have it on power and turn it off and leave it off and have power to the AC adapter off for a couple days or more. Even if you remove and store the battery it will lose capacity just from sitting around in storage, so there is really no perfect answer to laptop battery life.  So basically, for most people, the battery is a "use it and forget it" thing. Don't let it drive your life, just leave it in place and use the laptop as you want. The only thing you should avoid is discharging the battery below about 15-20%. They do not like that very much. There is no memory effect any more so you can use it on battery, run it down to say 70% t... Read more

I know this is an advertised benefit of Windows 7, but now I can testify first-hand to the better battery life. I bought a laptop with Vista on it, and upgraded it to 7 today. I charged the battery before installing, and unplugged it soon after it started installing.

I haven't plugged it in yet. I have been using it for about 2.5 hours now, and the battery is at 73%.

Granted, it is a very good battery, but if this had been Vista, it would be at about 20% by now.

Windows 7 is a great OS, isn't it?

Hi Jonathan,

I think most Members would agree that Windows 7 wins hands down over Vista. I think that it is true that Vista should have never been marketed, in so many ways it was not ready. Windows 7, is basically Vista under the hood with additional features and benefits that should have been claimed by Vista. Your battery experience, for one, security, aero, driver availablity to mention just a few. Enjoy your new computer, Jonathan, and keep busy on the keyboard, helping us at the Forum.

Battery 10 min (40% remaining), 16 min (60%), it is weird. I'd say nothing if I had 15% but 40% and only 10 min, it's too little. All the time I just sit with this cord and never bring the laptop to the lessons, just because the battery life doesn't seem to last quite enough
I definitely have problems with the battery, don't I?

A:Solved: Low Battery Life

I'm afraid that's probably just a natural degradation, everything wears out at some point and laptop batteries are no exception. Though they are rechargable, after a number of charge/discharge cycles they change chemically and start to lose their ability to hold charge.

It may be possible to perform a process known as calibrating the battery to restore it to some extent, particularly if the problem is actually associated with the energy meter on the battery. However this only works for certain kinds of battery.

The alternative is that you will have to buy a new battery for your laptop.

Just bought the notebook a few weeks ago - my main reason for buying was the 6.5 hour battery life. Got it home, charged - guess what? 1.5 hour battery life. I took it back to the store assuming it was defective. Got the new one home, charged up - same exact thing. HP tech support online is completely laughable (and yes, I hope you techs are reading this) - all the guy did was cut and paste from the website that he sent me to, which told me absolutely nothing. I'm not a new computer user - I do understand that battery life depends on screen brightness, what you are using the computer for, blah blah blah blah blah. I have it on power saving so low I can not read the screen as easily as I would like to, and I was doing absolutely nothing that would drag the power down, such as watching a DVD, gaming, etc. Basically just email, internet, MS Office - standard things.1.5 hour battery life - they must be kidding. My old Dell, 17" with not nearly the power this one has, got an easy 4 hour battery life - watching DVD's or whatever. Is anyone else having this issue?

I just turned it on after charging it, and the meter read 98%, 1 hr 50 min remaining. I haven't touched it yet, and five minutes later the battery's down to 90 %, although it says that there's 3 hr 5 min remaining. When I do any work on it, the battery goes down drastically. Does this have anything to do with Windows 10?

Hi!

Im trying to figure out how to make my laptop LiIon battery last longer. Ive been searching the internet, but the information is very varied. Some say its best NOT to discharge the battery completely, others say I should use the 40%-80% range, and again others say I should charge and discharge the battery completely on regular basis. Why are there so many different suggestions?

A:Laptop battery life

What you really ought to consider is a multi-cell battery for a laptop.
Some are only three cell, others are four or six sells. When I switched to a 9-cell battery for My Thinkpad T-60, my world changed for the better.
As for your question, most actual tests show it is best to totally discharge the battery periodically, then recharge it. Otherwise you run into problems of battery "memory" where it has a difficult time creating a full charge after a period of partial charges.

Hi

First of all, I am new to the forum so hi to everyone! This forum so far looks fantastic and so do the members!

Getting to the issue: I currently have Vista and want to not have Vista ASAP!
I need to know if Windows 7 improves on battery life, and if so, by how much? Please provide your knowledge and links(if any) to outside websites that has looked at 7 battery life.

I have a Dell M1530 laptop which has about 5 hours battery life on balance settings. But I really need about 6-8 hours for my work. Many thanks in advance.

Hi, I have a thinkpad t450 but want a new slightly more compact laptop with a better screen. Among my considerations from Lenovo would be the Yoga 260 or 460 models. How would people here rate them? I'd be looking for a minimum of 8.5 hours of battery. Could anybody say whether this is achievable? I've looked at online reviews which say anything from 6-9 hours for the 260, and I doubt somewhat Lenovos own clain of 12. Could anyone tell me how long theres would go on before running out of juice and any other considerations I should have when making a decision.

I have a lithium ion battery here that was never charged more than a half-dozen times back when it was new and near new; but, it hasn't been charged in about 6 years.

Anyone know how long these things can sit uncharged without going bad?

All of us want to prolong our battery's life. But without question every battery has a natural course of aging. After used for a long time, the battery get weak. This is cannot be eliminated, but we can prolong this aging course by using suitable method.

Usually if you want to prolong your battery's life ,you must pay attention to 3 steps in using battery :

1.Store battery :
Put your batteries in a cool and dry place when you store it.
Do not charge your lithum batteries too full before storage.
After using the laptop battery ,please clean up the metal terminals with a soft dry clean cloth.
Before storage, you should confirm your is not fully depleted. If empty, charge for about 30 minutes . Usually a lithium-ion battery should be stored at about 40% state-of-charge.
The suitable storage temperature for batteries is around 15C
Please notice this: weak batteries charge faster and remain on 'ready' indicator longer than strong ones. Also it only be used for a short time.So do not buy a used battery even if it is very cheap because used battery usually means weak battery.

2.Charge battery :
Most battery can be fully charged in about 3 hours so do not leave a battery in a charger for a long time.
When you prepare to charge your battery ,make sure the temperature is around the room temperature.
Especially need to pay attention is avoid over-charging and over-discharging.
Do not charged to higher voltages than its threshold voltage ,as it wo... Read more

A:How to prolong your battery's life

Where did you get this information? Some of it I'd agree with, others I don't. It also reads like a post you copy pasted into lots of places around the internet - however a quick googling didn't return anything.

1.Store battery :
Put your batteries in a cool and dry place when you store it.
Yes, that is generally good practice for lots of things.

Do not charge your lithum batteries too full before storage.
Ok, no prob here either, although saying that doing so can decrease overall capacity of the battery would have made it a better statement.

After using the laptop battery ,please clean up the metal terminals with a soft dry clean cloth.
So, I should take the battery out of my laptop every time I've used the laptop while not plugged in. This is not practical on some laptops and ultrabooks, nor does it seem necessary since I have never seen a corroded laptop battery.

Before storage, you should confirm your is not fully depleted. If empty, charge for about 30 minutes . Usually a lithium-ion battery should be stored at about 40% state-of-charge.
I've seen 50% thrown around, but I'll accept 40%.

The suitable storage temperature for batteries is around 15C
Ok. Haven't heard this, but I suppose it makes sense.

I bought my unit beginning of October 2013 and have had problems with the battery ever since.Lenovo falsely gives the battery life as up to 6 hours. A BIG lie! The battery has never lasted more than 1 1/2 hours on regular usage ie. no internet, no videos.I received a replacement battery this past Thursday and after testing it, found out it has the very same longevity of up to 1 1/2  hours ONLY.  VERY appalling!!And, on top of it all,  even when the laptop is off, the battery for some reason is being consumed. When I charge it before going to bed, it shows as being 100% charged, and in the morning, it shows as 90%. How can this be?And also, when in usage at a charging of 100% (2h 45min), after about 10-15 mins, it shows 89% (1 h 25 mins).Again, how is this possible, Lenovo??!! My old Ipod Touch of 2009 has a much longer battery life! It still charges to last a period of up to a week even with watching over 5 movies each lasting arond 1130 mins, and listening to music. If anyone is considering this model, Id seriously advise againss it - it comes with way too many nerve wreckiing negatives eg. a very, very short battery life,  and also keyboard issues.

A:The BIG lie about the battery life of S210

Completely agree. I thought that this was because I had the i3 version (which is hardly marketed), and that the Celeron versions had better battery life, but a couple of colleagues bought the Celeron versions of the S210T and the battery lasts about 1.5 hours on normal usage, and the marketed time is supposed to be 5-6 hours.  o_O Also agree with the statement above that the battery drains even when the laptop is off, and also that it hardly has any stand by time when on sleep, which is super surprising even for a low end Lenovo. And nowhere on the internet nor on Lenovo support sites can I find a replacement 4 or 6 cell battery for this model. Looks like I'm stuck with the crappy 3 cell one that comes with it forever.

I just bought a new-ish Dell XPS 13 2015 model on ebay. It is reading a 15 hr battery life (great!) once charged.I would like the forum's advice on how to maximize the battery life of the unit, and also to get it set up for best user experience.1) I was told it's better if I don't have battery charge to 100% but rather to cap the max charge to 90%. Does anyone know how to do so? Is there a third party software I should install? I don't see a way to use the control panel settings to limit the charge to 90%.2) the laptop does not seem to go into sleep mode when the lid is closed. What settings should I check? Such an issue causes the laptop to lose full charge when I pack it away in a hurry to carry and go.3) Is there anything else I can do to maximize battery life? Is there any smart 3rd party software to give me more working hours? Any settings I should pick other than dimming the screen? Is there a way I can turn off the backlit keyboard to save energy?4) The Dell ships with Win 8. I don't like Win 8.. Can I install Win 7 and if I did, would I lose out on battery life? I saw that installing Win 10 has a lot of problems, and that Win 7 install seems to have BIOS issues, according to the forums. Or alternatively, if I keep Win 8 is there a way I can get rid of those *** tiles and make the OS at least look and feel like Win 7?

Thank you for your message.
A battery is made of different cells. One cell will approximately give you about 20-30 minutes of back up based on the usage.  A 6 cell battery will give you about 120 minutes of back up on a normal usage.
We would recommend you to charge battery completely & use the computer just on battery power until the power drains down to 10-15 %.  Charge the battery again, try this at least 2-3 times a week. This will improve the battery life & have a good charge & discharge cycle & improve the battery life.
We do not recommend using any 3rd party application to improve the battery life.
Please open control panel-power options- change plan settings ? change advanced power options ? scroll down & change the lid close option according to your need (You can chose to put the computer to sleep, shutdown or do nothing when you close the lid)
We wouldn?t recommend you going back to Windows 7 as that will void the software warranty. Windows 10 is pretty stable now & all the issues reported have been fixed.
Press the F10 to enable to disable keyboard backlight (Fn+F10 if F10 alone does not work)
If you would like to stay on Windows 8 & have a Windows 7 look/theme you can download classic shell here http://bit.ly/2f7vnFO

I was wondering if I could get an answer about the battery life on the Dell XPS 15.

The specifications state up to 9 hours of battery life on it. I HIGHLY doubt that's realistic under normal circumstances, especially with the i7. I hear the i7 model only gets up to 3 hours of battery life. Is that right? I mean, realistically with the TDP, there's no way you could get 9 on an i7.
What about the battery on the i5 model? It surely doesn't get 9 hours either does it?
And am I correct to believe the i7 doesn't allow switchable graphics? They advertise it as having nVidia Optimus technology, but from what I can tell, the i7 don't support switchable graphics. Yet, I've heard some reports of Dell technicians claiming that the i7 models did support Optimus, so I'm a little confused.

If someone could please tell me what kind of battery life I could get on it (with the 9-cell), I would appreciate it. I'm thinking to buy an XPS 15 but if the specifications aren't what they're claiming to be, I don't want to buy it, find out it was false advertising, and ship it back, effectively wasting my time.

A:Dell XPS 15 Battery life?

No the XPS 15 will NOT get 9 hours with either of the i7 core cpu's. You are correct that the i7 does not support n-vidia optimus switching graphics. You can look at Intel's website and neither the i7 740QM nor the i7 840QM have the graphic chips built into them. I think there are some dual core i7's not availible in the XPS 15 that support optimus but the two i7 quad core options for the new XPS 14,15 or 17 do not support optimus. I don't know a battery life estimate for the 15. Mine hasn't come yet.

I have a dell inspiron 1501 laptop, which is 2 years old. Generally I keep it plugged in while I use it, but I unplug it at night and leave it in sleep mode. For the first year and a bit, it only used a little bit of the battery at night, but now there is almost none left when I turned it on in the morning. I unplugged the laptop today while working, and 15 minutes later it was out of battery. I am on the energy saver mode, and see no reason for why I have such low battery life. Any suggestions on how to improve it?

A:Battery Life Problem!

Batteries wear out. If it won't accept a charge, then that's what's going to happen.
New batteries are expensive so I recommend using the battery only when it's needed.

I take the battery out of the laptop once it's fully charged, and then (when I use it), I use it until it's discharged. Only then do I charge it up again. Most people will say it isn't necessary with newer batteries/charging systems - but I like the way that I did it in the old days and will keep on doing that way.

Hey,
I was looking at the Lumia 1520 / 1320 and Lumia 640 XL and was wondering which of them has the better batteylife?
I know that the hp elite x3 seems to be the new battery king out there, but this is way too expensive.
It doesn't need to be the most powerful one, but the one with the most battery life. I even might consider something even smaller, although I would prefer a 6'' phone.

A:Which phone has the best battery life?

out of those i would go with the 640xl as its still supported its only 1 year old, while the others are atleast 3 years old and no longer supported
