I noticed that new drivers were released for G580. The drivers (Lenovo Enegry Management Driver) canot install because when the installer starts up, it immediatelly closes. Do I have an issue somewhere? Windows 10 (1511, Build 10568.17)Lenovo G580 (20157)

A:Lenovo G580 Windows 10 ACPI Driver not installing?

hi acemod13,
I looked at the Lenovo Energy Management driver for Windows 10 and upon observing the installer behavior, it extract the ACPI driver files (58KB) to C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\ACPIDriver (this may explain why the installer closes right after extracting).
If you're seing an Unknown Device in the Device Manager with an ACPI hardware ID (see image below) then try to update the driver manually and point it to the C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\ACPIDriver folder
 - Sample image
If you're unable to see the driver files, I've uploaded them here.
Let me know how it goes.

A:G580 - Touchpad not working

Hi nikunjm022 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
When did it started happening ? If this would be a power management settings then a system restore to go back to a previous working date may help.
Try to reset BIOS settings by turning on the pc using the Novo key (item5 page 2) and choose BIOS settings , F9 to reset F10 to save and exit .
You can also try updating the touchpad driver from the support site.
We are not eliminating probable affectation of a grounded battery , but would it also happen with an inserted battery while plugged with the adapter?

So I was updating my drivers, and had wanted to update my Synaptics driver. I had removed the older version of Synaptics driver (because I was required to) and wanted to restart. My computer restarts, and I try to install the latest version of the Synaptics driver, it doesn't work. It says "install failed." I have tried multiple times.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello, The Problem:Recently I installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS  to my HDD in UEFI mode. Soon I found out that I could not access the BIOS using F2, but F12 allowed selection of boot device. Reinstalling Windows, I found out that the boot menu still had the Ubuntu entry and I still could not access the BIOS. I searched on the web for a solution and before I could manage to find a proper one, I managed to delete both the ubuntu and windows boot manager boot entries, still locked out of bios. This time I could not boot into any OS, could not access bios using f2 nor access boot menu using f12.  The Solution:There was one last hope, during boot I noticed that PXE (Boot via ethernet option was still showing).Note: This solution requires you to update the BIOS. This is a very risky procedure, so proceed with caution. This will also probably void your warranty. If you can access boot menu (F12) and want to regain access to the BIOS (F2), boot into Windows 7. Install a bios update for your laptop (specifically for your laptop) available at The Lenovo Support Site. The oldest BIOS (probably for Windows 7) is preffered. If you donot have access to windows 7, perform step 2 and boot into the created ISO by creating a bootable CD or pendrive. Then goto step 11.If you can't access F12 and F2, cannot boot into OS, but can boot via Ethernet (there should be a message about trying Atheros Ethernet PXE Boot during startup), start from step 1. Update: Even in the newest BIOS Update 62cn97ww (for Lenovo G580), Ubuntu causes the same problem. I came across a solution on the internet, that works without having to update the BIOS if Ubuntu can be accessed. To fix it, boot into Ubuntu (should be installed on the system), start Terminal and type in the following commands:sudo grub-install
sudo efibootmgr -b 0 -BReboot and F2 should work. BIOS should be accessible through F12>Tab>Setup also. Ubuntu will boot no more but can probably be fixed.

In my attempt to reinstall my Lenovo G580 audio drivers I deleted one and I can't find it. I think it might be a Dolby Advanced Audio driver because I'm pretty sure thats what my computer has. When I looked at device manager there were orignally 2 drivers under "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers". After I deleted one, the driver that was left is Intel(R) Display Audio. I hope that helps identify the missing driver. Also I would like a download link to the Intel(R) Display Audio driver because i will need to reinstall that one as well.
Im almost definently monitering this post constantly so if you reply expect a response very soon
Thanks for the help

Haven't updated your laptop's trackpad driver lately? Then you may well want to consider doing so, at least if your laptop is equipped with a Synaptics trackpad. As a user on the Hardware Zone forums discovered, the latest Synaptics driver seems to enable multitouch gestures on older laptops that didn't previously support them, including two-finger scrolling, and three-finger click. What's more, while the drivers themselves come from HP, they should work just fine on other laptops with a Synaptics trackpad. Hit up the link below to try it out for yourself.

If you can find it in Device Manager check to see that it is not allowed to disable itself to save power. It's possible that you could find this setting in the current power plan also. Not sure if this will help but this might be a good starting point.

My touchpad stopped working after I had installed a usb mouse (and an IR remote).

I searched numerous forums and tried everything out there with no success, including the following:
tried the function key to turn touchpad on/off (the most obvious source of the problem)
tried reinstalling driver for touchpad from the manufacturer web site
removed the usb mouse and rebooted
went to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Mouse to enable touchpad - touchpad was no longer even listed
There were no problems showing up in the Device Manager

This all became a bit frustrating because I would have to reconnect the usb mouse to do any maneuvering around the system (since the touchpad was not working) to try something else.

I then tried the following: removed the usb mouse, turned off computer (used ctrl/alt/del, then tabbed to the shut down button), turned computer back on. The touchpad still did not work. Without doing anything else, and with the usb mouse still not connected, I then turned the computer back off, then on a second time - and the touchpad became functional. I plugged the usb mouse back in and both worked again at the same time. In the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Mouse - both the touchpad and mouse were now recognized.

Hope this helps out others with the same problem (this seems to be a fairly common problem based on the number of postings around the web)

Hello, I have an Advent Monza S200 laptop. I've recently upgraded to Windows 10. Before I upgraded my touch pad was working fine, but after the upgrade my touch pad stopped working.
Once my laptop is turned on, the cursor is not visable on the screen, the touch pad is unresponsive too. If I plug in an external mouse, the cursor re-appears and I can control my computer that way, although as soon as I un-connect my external mouse the cursor stays on the screen but I can't control it with the touch pad.
I can un-install the touch pad drivers, then re-install them from the Advent webpage and the touch pad will work perfectly until I turn my laptop off, then when I switch my laptop back on, I'm back to square one again and can't do anything unless I plug in my external mouse.
I've tried asking on the Advent forums but they don't seem to have had any traffic since early 2013.
Any help would be great.

A:Laptop touchpad not working since installing Windows 10

Hello ObiDad. Welcome to the Forum

You don't say how old this laptop is or what operating system it came with, but that would be helpful to know.

The first thing I would try is to uninstall (remove) the touchpad from Device Manager. If the option is available remove the driver also. Then restart.
The important thing is that you try and remove all instances of any old drivers that may interfere with the generic driver installation.
Windows comes with a generic touchpad driver and that will be installed automatically and it may work right off, particularly if there is a driver conflict going on here.

If it works, then you could try and install the Advent driver. Only this time run the installer program (app) in Compatibility Mode. Use the compatibility mode for the operating system that the Advent driver is made for.
Compatibility Mode Settings for Apps - Change in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

See if either or both of those things help.

I have several ThinkPad T60 Type 6371's at work as test machines. They have all been upgraded to Windows 7 and they all have this ridiculous touchpad driver problem.
The problem is simply that the driver fails to load every other restart or so. This happens both in regular and safe mode. I have uninstalled the driver from Device Manager many, many, many times to let Win7 reload it but the same problem keeps happening.
Any thoughts?

The only thing I'd tell you is look in the BIOS for touchpad options. Run Dell diagnostics by pressing F12 and booting with diagnostic partition. It may be able to test the touchpad so you can rule out windows problem or PC problem.

If not, it's dead and they'll need to replace your palmrest. If you have still under warranty you may have next day onsite or return to depot warranty. The former is better.

My laptop's touchpad works better when the generic windows driver is installed, rather than the Synaptics driver. Except the generic driver doesn't have scrolling capabilites. Is there an alternate driver for Vista laptops besides Synaptics??

The specific problem is the touchpad click. It takes 3-4 touches to get a click. I modified the settings to the most sensitive, yet this doesn't solve the problem. It clicks every time on the first point without the Synaptics driver.

Hi all

I recently performed a full format and reinstall of vanilla Windows 7 Ultimate on an Acer 6920G. It has a scroll line beside the touchpad so I installed the appropriate Synaptic driver (SynTPEnh.exe) which works successfully. The problem is that ewvery time I reboot the driver automatically asks to be reinstalled. If I run it the touchpad works as expected but if I cancel it then it's as if the driver was never installed. Strangely, Programs and Features shows a listing for 'Synaptics Pointing Device Driver' before I run/cancel the install request. I've tried the obvious things - uninstalling, re-downloading, reinstalling, etc - to no avail and I have no idea why the driver would get stuck in such a weird loop. Any suggestions as to why it happens or how to fix it would be much appreciated.

I have a 2 week old Inspiron 2 in 1 15 7558 i5 8G 500GHD. Running Windows 8.1 from factory.
The problem is I cannot control the touchpad. The biggest issue is tap to click. The entire pad including  the  buttons move the mouse and reacts to tap to click. This is very frustrating because when I touch the pad all kinds of crazy mouse clicks register or when I try to click a button the mouse cursor moves because the button is part of the touch pad.
All I want to do is disable tap to click. When I open control panel/mouse there is no touchpad tab nor controls for the touchpad. In device manager the driver for the touchpad/mouse shows up as a MS Mouse driver from 2008 which seems very wrong, especially since it came this way from the factory. I have checked the Dell driver site for a different driver both by model number and service tag, no touchpad driver or app. I have found synaptics, alps, ealn and Cyprus drivers on the web but none of them work.
Any fix for this? Seems like disabling touch to click should be a no brainer.

I've just got a new Samsung Laptop, and it has a precision touchpad (from Synaptics) in it. I'm trying to find a way to disable the "Precision" bit of it, so I can use synaptics own drivers, which have more options (specifically, the palm control on it is awful, and the cursor jumps all over the screen when typing, and selects different input areas, etc. and I want to enable one finger scrolling, which isn't possible with Windows/precision). However, I'm really struggling to do this. I've downloaded the drivers from Synaptics site, but when I disable the device, install this driver (by manually selecting it using have disk), and restart, the touchpad doesn't work at all. If I install the driver by running setup, it appears to install fine, but makes no difference. If I let Windows choose the driver, it reverts back to the precision settings that I don't want!

Been searching all day trying to find something, but no joy - any suggestions?

I downloaded the Synaptics touchpad driver, and a Synaptics 'Device Settings' tab becomes available when I go to mouse properties in control panel. However, when I click on 'Settings' in this tab, the window that opens only has two menu items: Overview, and Buttons. There are no options to change sensitivity or enable scrolling.

Does anyone know what I can do to enable scrolling and adjust the sensitivity? It's very important, as I can't even type without the cursor jumping around due to sensitivity.

My touchpad has completely stopped working, which is a minor inconvenience at this point given that I can still use a mouse. However, I would still appreciate a solution as to how to fix this.
Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface will not start. I have tried uninstalling it and installing it again, but there is no change.
If anyone could help with these issues, I would be most appreciative.

Hi 2 days ago I bought a acer notebook. The touchpad is working but not the gestures. If i go to the "mouse settings", there are no specific settings for my touchpad.Just the normal mouse settings like pointer speed...I already downloaded the 2 driver which are on the acer support site:TouchPad_Synaptics_18.1.2.1_W81x64_A and TouchPad_ELANTECH_13.6.1.1_W81x64_A.I have installed boot of them sucesfully (there was the green pick). So what to do now?Does anyone have ideas? Also for ur info there are no warning signes for unknown devices in the device manager. Thanks Sorry for my bad english, I'm not a native speaker.

A:Aspire E5-511 Touchpad Driver not working

I am sorry that you having problems with the touchpad its gestures. I can assure you that the touchpad is working, however your touchpad is not a ELAN or Synaptics. It looks like we are shipping Precision touchpads with a lot of our newer Windows 8.1 products.
What this means is that the gestures you are use to are no longer the same and you have to go to a different location to manage your touchpads settings. For a better idea and explanation of Microsofts Precision touchpad and gestures, please visit

This is now the third forum I have posted to regarding this issue.I've been to Sevenforums and to the HP forums.I don't know how/when this happened (because I rarely restart my pc) but,I recently had to restart after some updates and after restarts now it seems that I have to physically load the Synaptics touchpad driver in order for things like (in particular) two finger scrolling) to work.
I uninstalled the Synaptics driver (because Synaptics site has a newer version.HP,so far, isn't supporting the new one). I was instructed to restart the pc after uninstalling the old driver and before installing the new one. That's when the problems started. After booting to the Windows login screen, the keyboard became disabled and I was unable to use the pc.
I've done a system restore and all is back to normal. But,I'm still left with the original problem (having to physically load the Synaptics software because it's not loading itself). Have any of you ever experienced this problem and if so,how did you remedy this situation ?

Honestly...if you have an HP should get your drivers for basic functions from the HP website.  Theoretically, all drivers for a specific item SHOULD be useable...but "should" is a word that often does not apply to OEM systems, IMO.

For the Dell moderators monitoring this forum...please discuss providing non-Microsoft touchpad drivers.  My primary complaint for my machine is the touchpad.  After reading several other forums with similar complaints, there seems to be a lot of people that insist that the Dell XPS touchpad issues stem from using Microsofts circa 2006 generic "precision touchpad" driver.  There isn't much ability to adjust settings with it, and the 2-finger scroll function is terrible.  I have tried some other suggested solutions, like installing generic Synaptics drivers, and they fix some things, but introduce other issues as well.  Can Dell please consider releasing some better drivers to improve the performance of the touchpad?

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum. I recently purchased a new Dell Laptop (Vostro 15 3559). It is a Brand New one. But I am facing one problem since the beginning. It is with dell touch pad driver. With the touch pad driver installed, whenever I using touchpad system process show high cpu usage(20%-30%). This is so annoying, and it eats battery. When touch pad driver is uninstaller, the problem disappears and system process become normal. But without driver touchpad is not smooth and no gestures. I tried with different drivers and uninstall and installing newest drivers, clean install of windows, but no luck.
My system is,

Windows 10 pro 64 Bit

Hi, I've just upgraded from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite a100. I was wondering where I could download a driver for Synaptics touchpad that works? I tried the generic drivers from Synaptics' website, but they do not install completely (the second component always fails to install). Then I tried the ones from Toshiba's website, but The Vista-compatible ones display an error that says error code "#5B4 @10". Then I tried The Windows XP-compatible drivers, and they work perfectly, except the fact that I cannot configure enhanced features such as virtual scrolling and tap zones.
I click on the icon in the tray, click on The Device Settings tab, and whenever I click on The Settings button nothing happens. Any help?

Touchpad just stopped working while I was using it. Here's what's going on:

Fn + F7 does nothing
Synaptics ps/2 Port Touchpad shows in Device manager, however it is hidden and has a yellow exclamation point. Error code: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24).

I have updated the drivers from the Gateway website by first uninstalling the drivers that were present. No go. I then updated the drivers from the synaptics website via the same method, nothing. I've tried searching for a driver via device manager....nothing.

As I mentioned, I tried Fn+F7 and nothing happened. Also I notice that the driver software is not loading in the tray like it used to and I can't even make it run by trying to open the .exe file.

Any ideas? I've been searching for an answer for this for a while with no luck.

Inherited a TOSHIBA SATELLITE laptop computer (2008 vintage) from my daughter. It had VISTA on it and an old version of IE. Would not update IE saying it was 'not computable with OS'. So I installed w-7 allowing the 'C' system partition to be overwritten; then installed SP-1 update. Works fine now, except I need to update the touchpad driver. Synaptics was original driver but was erased on the w-7 install. Tried to see if the available download for VISTA from Synaptics might work but it will not install.
The touchpad as it functions from the W-7/SP-1 is pretty sad in my way of thinking. Is there a program or driver I might install to improve it to something similar to as-it-was or maybe better?

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y510P with Windows 8.1. For months or longer, I have been having an issue with the touchpad software. After days of use it will stop responding to advanced commands like two finger scrolling unless I restart the computer. If I try to access the icon in the right corner on the taskbar, the application will not open. It cannot be right clicked. If I try too much the taskbar freezes. I tried to access Mouse in control pad - no response, I couldn't access it. I tried to look for updates for the driver and it would always say it is totally updated or when I manually download one it would say that it is already installed or something.

So today I decided I would fix this problem. I uninstalled the application, and removed the driver in the Drivers section in control panel. I downloaded the program again from the Synaptics site for my computer and tried to install.

The message: "A previous version of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver is installed. If you continue installation, the driver may not install properly. To avoid this problem, press 'No' to exit setup...

I never pressed no the multiple times I tried to install and install would always fail after about 15 seconds. I then looked for traces of Synaptics on my computer in Program Files and Driver folder. Deleted all Synaptics folders and emptied recycling bin.

Problem still persists. Need help. I rebooted my computer a couple times along the way, but not after I deleted those folder... Read more

I have good news for laptop users with built in ALPS Touchpads. Acer/Gateway (same company) have been generous to create a new driver for Windows 8 32/64-bit users.

To make sure that your ALPS Touchpad may be compatible with this new driver for Windows 8, make sure that before upgrading to Windows 8, in Windows 7 open Device Manager, check the "Mice and other pointing devices" category and your Touchpad should be listed as "ALPS Pointing-device".

If it is, then you are a candidate to install the newly released drivers. Click the link for a direct download from Gateway.

2. Double-click on setup icon and install.

After installation, this new driver adds Windows 8 gestures that are found on Microsoft Surface and other tablets for the TouchPad. There are other features there, but those are up to you to experiment with.

Hi! I've been trying to solve a problem with my mother's netbook for some time now....Don't know what's causing the problem. Details are below:

Type of computer: Asus Eee PC, running Windows XP (purchased Fall 2009)
Background: no P2P, other file sharing, has McAffee protection installed

1) upon startup, touchpad does not work--must use left click
Usually goes away after user resolves issue 2)
2) Any empty field (such as the Run command, or sign-in to Gmail) is autofilled with ;;;;;;;;;;;. Once user deletes the ;;;;;;;, issues 1) and 2) are resolved
3) repeated boink-boink-boink sounds, like a command was entered too many times

Attempted (and failed) solutions to date;
1) full McAffee system scan
2) CHKDSK C: /F /R run in safe mode
3) checked Task Manager for suspicious programs/activity levels
4) reinstalled touchpad and keyboard drivers, adjusted settings
Any suggestions on what else I can try?
Thank you!!!

I need a "good' Alps touch pad driver.
Something with similar options such as synaptics....preferably swipe and coast scrolling. All of the Alp drivers I have tried have jumpy scrolling ...jumping a few lines at a time rather than matching actual finger movement.
Since Alps touchpads seem to be gaining popularity with the manufacturers,I am hoping a good driver now exists.

I have found one that didnt jump a few lines{precision scrolling} at the dell site but it didnt have continued scrolling...meaning when your finger reached the bottom corner, scrolling stopped rather than continued until lifted or moved back up.
I would settle for continued scrolling without the jumping of lines{precision scrolling}....but opt for the coasting feature.....So in a nutshell I need precision scrolling..with continued and or coasting scroll options.

If anyone has a good alps driver on their laptop or knows of a good Alps touchpad driver..I need the model number for the unit or the version number of the driver

I have a Lenovo G530 4446-25u. Recently my Windows XP partition became corrupted after a system recovery which forced me to initiate a recovery install. This wiped out the touchpad driver I had installed. So I re-downloaded the package from the Lenovo website which installs the Synaptics Pointing Device software and ALPs Touchpad Driver automatically. The thing is the ALPs Touchpad Driver always fails to install with no indication why. The reason this is annoying is because my touchpad is extremely sensitive and it is always clicking when typing. Without this driver in XP I cannot disable tapping. This has turning into a major issue believe it or not as I use my laptop generally to type papers and take notes during lecture. I've also tried installing the driver in safe mode but I get the same results.

Installed 32-bit Win 8.1 onto a Dell D610 (Pentium M 1.86GHz 2GB RAM) and it really works very well. Except for one nagging problem - the 4 left/right click buttons do not work! I have tried several drivers and all give full touch pad functionality (scroll and tap/click) and the keyboard stick works - but both sets of left and right buttons refuse to do anything. All worked with Win 7, so I assume it is a driver problem. I currently have a Logitech USB wireless mouse attached which works fine, but I would like to get the buttons on the laptop functioning.

So today i installed the drivers for my razer deathaddder mouse on my laptop. The installation went fine, but the problem is it seems to have taken over or just messed up the configuration for my touchpad. After installing, the touchpad moved really slowly even though i hadn't changed any settings, and the acceleration had turned off.

I decided to uninstall the drivers to reverse the problem, but it didn't change. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the touchpad drivers (latest synaptics drivers, same ones i had installed before), but this didn't solve anything either. I've tried fiddling around with the mouse settings but everything is configured the way it was before, it's just not the same.

I want my touchpad to go back to the way it was. Is there any way to get all the mouse settings back to the way they were when i installed windows or something like that?

Keyboard and Touchpad Crashes with Windows Update KB 890830 -
Malicious Software Tool - March 2009.
After installing the above update on a Fujitsu Lifebook E 8410 Laptop
(Windows Vista Business) , I lost use of both my Keyboard and my Touch
Pad. The wired USB Mouse works OK. Used Windows Restore and the
system returned to normal.

When installing KB 890830, my Bit Defender 2009 Virus Scanner identifies a
Trojan.Generic.1487884 (file reference is US30Kbd2K.sys) in
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers and deletes same. Also, when running
Windows Defender on its own, Bit Defender again pops up and also deletes
file US30Kbd2K.sys.

My keyboard drivers are listed in Devise Manager as i8042prt.sys,
kbdclass.sys and US30Kbd2K.sys - the latter is possibly a trojan. However,
when US30Kbd2K.sys is removed (either manually or by Bit Defender) the
keyboard and touch pad will not work.

Can you suggest please how I might overcome this problem. I have curently
removed KB890830 (March 2009) from my system to keep it working.

The touchpad on my HP G62 laptop was less responsive than normal. I tried changing the properties with no improvement. So I went to HP help and noticed that there was a driver update for this device. So I ran the update. Then the touchpad barely worked at all and a notice box said the driver was incompatible with current system. The advice on the web included more than one remark advising to not bother with the Synaptics website as it is unreliable. I did it anyway. Synaptics recognised I had a legal copy of Windows 7 Home and I downloaded the suggested driver. Which actually was a new version entirely. Now the pad is back to life just like old times. The HP update was outdated. Every time I have used any HP updates I run into problems. I suggest HP users forget all about the "Support Assistant" and seek more credible update sources. Thnx, gnuguy.

Hi folks,
I've got an annoying problem on a Compaq Presario 1510 laptop with XP home. There's this touchpad with a seperate scroll button. It comes with a "Synaptics pointing device driver" that lets you configure the scroll button and the extra functions of the touchpad (like edge motion, edge scrolling, sensitivity, slow motion, ...). Very often (every other day but usually sooner) this scroll button is without functions. The up-down-left-right functions are gone. The other functions of the touchpad remain as they were.
The only solution so far is to uninstall and reinstall this driver (it's the latest from Compaq). I keep this driver permanently on the hard disk just for this purpose. This is driving me crazy since it sometimes happens twice a day. It does not happen during working on the laptop, but after rebooting the functions are gone.
Don't know what's causing this behaviour. Is it the driver or (more likely) maybe a program that's allergic to this driver?

If anybody out here has an idea, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks, WSE

I have just purchased a Dell computer (vostro 1320), with Windows 7. Everything was working just fine, when I started to get those blue screens errors. I seeked help from Dell, which told me to install WinDbg, to find out the problem.
After analyzing what caused the error, this program pointed the error was in a driver from Dell touchpad.
I contacted Dell, which said the problem was in the software, which was conflicting with windows, and then they told me to format the pc.
I am very reluctant in doing so, mainly because the pc is brand new, and every time I formatted my old pc, it never was the same, and the old problems always returned.
So, my question is: is there another solution for my problem? Maybe an alternative driver, which can substitute the one from Dell and does not conflict with windows! Can anybody help me, please???

Hi folks -  We have an Aspire 5733Z.  Now Windows 10 (It was originally Windows 8, and a while back, Microsoft eventually didn't give us a choice to update to Windows 10) It has a Synaptic PS/2 TouchPad.  I recently tried to update the driver for this TouchPad - as I thought maybe this would activate a 2-finger scroll that I've seen in other (newer) Windows 10 laptops recently. I downloaded from Synaptic website what seems to be the latest drivers for Windows 10 - a large zip file.  I installed the driver - seamingly successfully.  The touchpad still works (can move mouse and select, etc.) - but now when I look at the associated driver in device manager - the "mice and other pointing devices" is no longer listed as "Synaptic PS/2 TouchPad" as before, but now just simply "PS/2 Compatible Mouse".  Further - the original driver was dated something from 2011, and the current driver is now from 2006.  AKA it's not the Synaptic driver I just installed. So what am I missing?  I'm not an expert but know just enough to be dangerous  Any advice much appreciated. Thanks - Brad

Hi There,

I have a synaptics touchpad driver installed on my laptop it is listed in my mouse options under devices settings as "Synaptics Pointing Device - v25.0.4" and under devices in the same tab the name is listed as "Synaptics touchpad v7.2".

The problem I am having is that in the devices settings tab I have checked the box that says "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing devices is attached" because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing. Problem is that when I want to use the touchpad and unplug the mouse, the touchpad will work fine until I shut down the computer. On startup (whether clean boot or restoring from standby) the touchpad will no longer work (with or without a mouse connected). When this happens I have tried a fresh reboot of the laptop, but the problem remains. I have tried reconnecting my mouse before shutting down or closing the lid of my laptop but the problem persists. Some times when using the touchpad the power cord on my laptop unplugs and when I plug it back in the touchpad no longer works, yet when I unplug the cord it will work again. I don't get any error messages when any of these things happen, they just happen without warning.
When I go into my mouse settings and go to the device settings tab, the devices list is now empty and all other options are greyed out, including the check box to disable the touchpad when a mouse is connec... Read more

A:Synaptics touchpad driver keeps breaking

because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing

That's a fairly common issue and my wife and daughter solved it by getting Toshiba Notebooks that have a switch between the touchpad and the keyboard to turn the touchpad off, both use a external mouse. The problem stems from the sensitivity of the touchpad and where a person's thumbs want to rest while typing. Adding to the problem is the type of touchpad that has the vertical and horizontal scroll areas.

I'd go into Device Manager and uninstall both instances for the touchpad and reboot, should install the drivers again, handy when an installation gets corrupted.

My touchpad was working just fine then I began using a wireless Microsoft mouse at my desk. Then today I thought of trying it out once more and I noticed that my touchpad had stopped working without me noticing when. I have searched online for solutions and all I saw was the fn+f7 solution. On my model, this fn+f7 solution doesn't work, instead that is a shourtcut key to dimming the backlight of my screen. My touchpad has a switch above it which is probably the replacement of that fn+f7 solution. I turned it on and the touchpad was still not responding to my input. I restarted and disconnected the mouse, still no benefit. I checked under device manager "Mice and other pointing devices" and I noticed that the touchpad icon was not there, i.e. the computer was only recognizng the external mouse, not the built in touchpad. I looked under the "uninstall a program" menu and I saw a program called touchpad in there but I don't know why it is not in the device manger. hOW CAN i FIX THIS without having to take my Laptop to HP????

Is this a sign that computers have feelings, because it's appears that when you leave the touchpad for about a month because you are using a mouse, the touchpad stops functioning; it feels that it is no longer needed

I am currently running Windows 10 on an Aspire VN7-791 but I can't seem to install the touchpad driver. I use the driver I find on the Acer websites for my model, and the install finishes and at the end of the installation it says that install has been complete. But I can't find any icon on the toolbar, nor can I find the application in my Uninstall list. I also tried the 8.1 driver, run as admin etc etc.. Another weird thing is that in the Device Manager there are two default touchpad drivers. Look at the attached picture. The hardware IDs for these drivers are:1: HID\VID_046D&PID_C52F&REV_3000&MI_002: HID\VID_O9CB&PID_2970&REV_0008&Col01 Please provide me with a working driver or a solution for the problem.

I recently gave vista the boot installed windows 7 on my Toshiba satellite A200-FT3 laptop. Everything went great however the touchpad doesn't seem to be functioning.

I've already installed the latest synaptic driver. The device manager even says that the device is 'working properly' however i can't get the pointer to move using the touchpad.

The 'Fn' functions work:
Fn+F7 to brighten
Fn+F6 to darken.

EXCEPT the touchpad: Fn+F9.

Does anybody have any ideas? =[

A:Touchpad Mouse driver not working

That is honestly something I have not experienced.
Did it work before you up installed the touch pad driver?
Have you checked all the setting making sure something funky didn't get clicked, by the ghost of vistas past?

Have you ran windows updates, after installing the drivers?
Have you tried uninstalling the driver then running win updates?

Are you getting tired of my questions?
If yes, Im done
If no, I can make some more up for you :P

Everytime I have restarted my computer since last night the driver for my touchpad has appeared in my taskbar. It's slightly annoying, and I can't get rid of it. I have reinstalled the driver from Sony's website, toyed with properties, and yet it still shows up each restart. If I close the application, my touchpad will not work properly (ie shortcuts non-functional). The driver is from ALPS.
I did try and install AcidWarp last night, and Julian Fractal Screen Saver. I have since uninstalled them. I have attempted several system restores, but each time the restore fails. Any ideas how to get this damned thing to not show up in my taskbar?

Here is a link to a picture of my desktop:

I am in the process of downgrading Yoga 3pro to Windows 7-64.Having trouble to make touchpad work at all (neither with Synaptics drivers, no without-). Tried a few Synaptics drivers from different Lenovo models as well as a generic Synaptics driver. They either fail to install at all or never show up in Windows Device Manager. Any ideas?

About 2 months ago I bought this super gaming laptop by Toshiba(on sale 1 yr old and guarantee expired)(Store didn't tell me that part)and of course, I use it for gaming.
Last month I was into FPS and the touchpad kept getting in my way since the palm of my left hand kept swiping over it and I got killed easily.
therefore, to get rid of the problem, I disabled it from BIOS ( the updated 2.10 BIOS version ) and when I got out of the FPS spirit, I wanted to re-enable it again. but for my surprise it wasn't working!
I tried EVERYTHING I could think of.
-returning bios to original settings
-recovering my laptop to out-of-box state
but nothing.

does anyone here have ANY idea of how I can re-enable it again?

PS: Talked with a Toshiba representative and he didn't help me at all!

A:Toshiba laptop touchpad driver

Hi GKahn

Try looking in control panel for mouse , see if it can be enabled from there.

You can also try hitting the fn key and f9 at the same time. On Toshiba that should lock and unlock the touchpad.

I have a Dell lap top, I am going by memory from what I have read in this Forum.

Hello,  After upgrading to Windows 10, a new version of the Synaptics Touchpad driver for my X220T was automatically installed. However, I soon found that 2-finger scrolling is extraordinarily slow, even after manipulating some of the Synaptics control panel settings such as "scroll speed", and that "inertia" pointing has been turned on by default, which is very annoying.  I have been able to hide the update for now (using the wushowhide.diagcab tool) even though hiding updates in Windows 10 is far more convoluted than in Windows 8.1 and have installed the Windows 8.1 driver from Lenovo Downloads instead.  My question is, when will a driver from Lenovo or with appropriate fixes from Synaptics be released? William

I need a new driver as well.  Because of the 'resizing mouse pointer' problem when pressing the middle trackpad button on my X1 Carbon 3.  (sucks to have to deal with this on a new ($$$) machine) here's some links...   BTW I had this problem on both win 8.1 and win 10. And...
