Memory Upgrade Problem on my HP Pavilion Notebook

Q: Memory Upgrade Problem on my HP Pavilion Notebook

HP Pavilion Notebook zv5000
Original Memory = 512mg (256MB in each of the two memory bays)
I just attempted to upgrade my memory with a 1GB module from Kingston.
Module = 1GB PC2700 333 MHz KVR333SC/1GR

The Notebook has 2 memory bays. 1 memory bay is accessible to the user. I replaced a 256MB module with the new 1GB module. I started the computer up and it booted just fine and pulled up my desktop screen. Then I received the blue screen with a message that Windows was shutting down. I removed the module and re-seated it and tried again. Now it only gets to the Windows screen and then goes to the blue screen. It looked so simple - HELP!!

My dv6 has gotten severely slow. I am currently running Windows 10, and right now it takes 15-20 minutes to wake it up from sleep and log in. Ive done a lot of cleaning and optimizing, but nothing has gotten better on it. It get's very warm very quickly and the fan always seems to be on high. I am looking to try and upgrade the memory, and maybe the processor (to quad-core) at least if possible to see if the performance will get any better. I can barely do anything on it now because it takes way too long! I do have a 1 TB HDD installed a few years ago and that has been working well, but everyday web browsing, microsoft office products and light photo/video editing once in a while are nearly impossible! What memory and processors are compatible with my machine that I could look into upgrading? Any help is greatly appreciated! I am new to the memory upgrades and such so I was having a bit of an issue searching/understanding exactly what I would be looking for! I upgraded my daughter's RAM tonite and had to disconnect two pins: a flat gray cable that I know where to replug - and a white one with 4 wires that I can't remember where I unplugged it from to reach the memory slots!! It is labeled P4 on the white connector but I can't for the life of me find where to plug it back in!! Any Help Out There? It is an HP Pavilion 750n!!

Thank you!

A:HELP! HP Pavilion Memory Upgrade Problem

The P4 one sounds like the power plug required for a P4 board, and there will be a socket on the motherboard. Its quite unique, so nothing else will look exactly like it.

The motherboard is not that huge, so it should be findable!

I bought a customized HP Pavilion notebook directly from HP. It came with an Intel T7500 2.2 GHz processor that runs a 800 MHz FSB. It also came with 2Gb RAM (which I believe is PC2 5300 DDR2 RAM in the form of two 1GB chips). The system has a maximum of 4Gb memory, so I want to match 4Gb Ram (in the form of two 2Gb chips) to the CPU.

Is there any reason why PC 6400 DDR2 800 Mhz 2 Gb chips would not work in this system? I bought two of these chips from newegg.com (they were OCZ chips) and when I installed them I was unable to boot the machine. The PC runs fine with the slower DDR2 PC2 5300 chips that run at 667 MHz.

Hi!I am using HP Pavilion 15 Notebok PC (F6C42PA#ACJ). It came with Win 8.1 preinstalled on a 1 TB HDD. I have upgraded the OS to win 10 and now want to upgrade my HDD to a SSD. I was wondering if Transcend TS256GSSD370S and Samsung Evo 850 is compatible with my laptop. Also how to enable AHCI mode? I don't see any such option in BIOS.Thank you.

I want to upgrade the RAM from 4 to 8GB (16 if possible) and upgrade the OS to one with a longer support life - I'm thinking Windows 7 or 8.1. Is it best to do the upgrades serially and which should I do first? What RAM should I buy i.e. ordering info? Which OS do you recommend and where is the best place to buy it and the preferred media. Thanks to those forum members in advance for your advice.butchiepoo

A:Upgrade HP Pavilion Notebook - RAM and OS

Hi, Please use the following manual:     http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01918142.pdf RAM: page 2 gives you RAM specs and max RAM supported. Page 67 gives you part number, you can use part number to order from HP or online stores. Please note: this is an old machine and RAM could be a bit hard to find now.For OS: Windows 7 drivers are available on itshomepage:          http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv7-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/374... You are much better to upgrade to Windows 7 than others because HP supports it. For OS, you can buy from a computer shop or order from Microsoft. Please note again, this machine is 8 years old. Please do not waiste more money on it. Regards.

The R & M Guide for this notebook says a max of 8G of RAM over 2 slots i.e. max of 4G / slot  and  DDR3-1600 MHz Dual Channel support for a Next Generation Intel Core processor. Processor = Intel Core i7-3632QM processor (2.2GHz, SC turbo up to 3.1GHz, 1600 MHz/6MB L3 cache, quad core, 35W and specs max of 2 memory channels  My current RAM is    Ramaxel 4G 2rx8 PC3-12800S 11-11-1f  (is DDR3 so 1.5v) My question is, as the current RAM is 2 channels (2sx8) can the RAM in the second slot (to go to 8g) be 2 channels or do I have to remove the current RAM and replace with two new RAM modules of 1 channel (1sx8) each?  If the latter is the case can I used DDR3L (1.35v), which is also a processor spec, in place of the DDR3? Thanks for any assistance.

A:RAM upgrade for Pavilion g6-2235tx Notebook

Yes you can use DDR3L since you have the 3rd generation processor. Here is the manual: Service manual You definitely do not want to mix low and high voltage RAM. If you are going to install 2 modules you want them to be the same density (number of ranks) and ideally, you want them to be identical.  So I would get 2 x 4 gig DDR3L-1600 modules.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Hi @giftedmishra? ,Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15 Notebook and issues with creating Recovery discs. Here is a link from Microsoft on creating USB recovery flash drive. Please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices, as these could cause some issues. Plug the power adapter directly into a functioning wall outlet. Do not plug it into a power strip, surge protector, or secondary power source as this could cause and issue. If your computer is having problems finding and installing operating system updates, try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix the problem. I hope this helps. Thanks.

Hi, I currently have a 1 TB HDD in my laptop, but with Windows 10, my disk usage is often 100% (even after disabling a lot of stuff). I would like to upgrade to an SSD. I have a few questions that I would like your help with: Is it allowed to upgrade to SSD? (I mean does the BIOS check something like hardware signatures, and would it reject a new drive?)Should I look for a particular size when searching SSDs online? Will I be able to retain my Windows license? (I can currently create a USB from Microsoft's tool and reinstall Windows. If I change hardware, will Microsoft still allow me to retain my lisence?)What other precautions should I take?I am currently looking at this SSD. Would this (and similar) work with my laptop? Thanks and regardsPrakhar

Hey, fellow forum users. I have questions concerning the processor in my HP Pavillion 15 Notebook. Mainly being,-is it possible that I could upgrade the current dual core i3 I have to an i5 or even i7?-Is there any other upgrades I can make to beef the notebook up as I mostly use it for gaming  and I can hardly get 20 FPS?-Or do you advise I sell this laptop as I cannot upgrade the motherboard? I have tried using the already existing support for processor upgrades on the HP support website but it was no help at all and I've had to do a lot of digging to no avail.Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope you are able to answer my questions and I'm sorry for my inability as I have very little experience with hardware. Much thanks, Halogen.

According to the specs this is what you have: Microprocessor2.60GHz Vision Premium Technology from AMD with AMD Phenom II Dual-Core Mobile Processor P650Microprocessor Cache2MB L2 CacheMemory4GB DDR3 System Memory (1 DIMM)Memory Max Video GraphicsRadeon HD 4250 Graphics This is your Service Manual: Link to Service Manual You have this motherboard: For use only with computer models equipped with an AMD Athlon, Phenom, Turion, or V-series processor and a graphics subsystem with UMA video memory 638856-001 That is going to limit the processor and video options. Your best CPU is going to be this one: AMD Phenom II N970 2.20-GHz processor (2.0-MB L2 cache, 1333-MHz, 3.6GT/ sec, quad core, 35 W) 635496-001 There is no way to upgrade the video without also replacing the motherboard.  max RAM is 8 gigs of DDR3-1333. You just need one more 4 gig chip to max the memory. You have a 5400 or 7200 rpm 500 gig mechanical hard drive and your best upgrade will be a solid state drive.  Where are you located (country only) and we can start linking you to vendors. Does anybody know where I can find more information on this? Also, if it requires a MB upgrade, does anybody know which ones will work in this chassis?Any help is appreciated! Thanks! ~DT

This is what you have now: http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-PC3L-12800S-11-11-B3-HP16D3LS1KBG-4G-Laptop/dp/B00N6WKI3S The key thing here is that it is high density (4 black blocks) and low voltage (1.35 volts) 1600 mhz  The first link you gave says the memory can run at 1.35 or 1.5 volts, which is true for all low-voltage memory but it does not work the other way around. 1.5 volt memory cannot run at 1.35 volts.  So it looks like the first memory you linked will work, but I cannot be sure on the second; it does not state the voltage. I would avoid it.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

I have an HP Pavilion xf125 notebook, and would like to upgrade the memory. It has 384mb now. I don't know how much memory it will hold, or if it's even upgradable anymore since it's so old (2002 I think). The reason I want to upgrade is because it crashes pretty easy. I was thinking more memory would help solve this problem. Any advice would help... but no need to suggest I buy a new computer because I really don't use it all that much to justify the cost of a new one.

I also need a new battery for it, but don't really want to spend a lot... so looking for an inexpensive one. Not sure it's possible to find such a thing anymore. Yes, I have looked on HP's website and they don't have either memory or batteries for it.

Thanks for any helpful advice you can offer.

I have Samsung 4Gb DDR3L 1600Mhz RAM (M471B5173DB0) installed in my laptop - HP 15-r063tu Notebook. I want to upgrade the same with a Corsair 4Gb DDR3L 1600Mhz RAM (CMSO4GX3M1A1600C11), as the exact Samsung RAM is not available and is also about 40% more expensive than the Corsair / Transcend ones. Will my laptop motherboard &/ BIOS accept the above Corsair RAM alongwith the current Samsung one, or do I need to necessarily buy the exact Samsung make & model of RAM ? As the tech specs of the above Samsung & Corsair RAMs match, I assume they should work fine together, but am told that sometimes the motherboard &/ BIOS doesn't allow RAMs of different makes to be installed, even if their specs match. Would help if someone can confirm on this, so I can buy accordingly. Thanks a lot.

Hello everyone, I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the memory and SSD on a HP Pavilion 15-ac187nd (4GB memory + 128 M.2 SSD). I cannot find specific information on the HP website about this . Any information would be welcome. Kind regards, M.Jacobs

A:HP Pavilion 15-ac187nd (possible memory + SSD upgrade?)

Here is the Service Manual: Manual It can actually take up to 16 gigs of RAM 2 x 8 gigs (despite the Manual saying 8 gigs is the max-there are two modules) and it can accept a larger capacity M.2 SSD drive than 128 gigs. These upgrades are not authorized for end users and may jeopardize the warranty. See page 46 on the memory. Unfortunately this Manual does not show installation of the M.2 mSSD drive. I will try to get more information on where that is located. It is either right next to the hard drive slot, in an adapter plate in the hard drive slot or requires motherboard removal to get to.

PC 3200U - 30331-Z 256MB DDR P 3200 CL3
CN M368L322FUN-CCC 0603

The two memory units are located in 2 BLUE slots while 2 black slots are open.

Know after that long winded information here are my questions:
1) Can I put in one 1GB memory card in one of the open slots or are two 512MB cards better.
2) Or DO i have to use only 256 MB cards unless I remove these.
3) Any specific brands I should look into?
Edited To Ask:
4) While shopping on Ebay I was some memory that was high density and others were Low Density what type should I use?
5) Also saw different pin counts which is the correct pin number I should purchase?
thanks for taking the time to read this and help me with your insight.

I recently tried to upgrade my RAM from 1 gig to 2 gig purchased from Edge Tech. When I installed it and tried to reboot, the picture on the monitor was fuzzy and wavy---it stuck in the boot phase...starting over several times but never fully booting. I tried switching slots and got the computer to come on but it locked up soon after. When I removed the new RAM and reinstalled the old RAM it worked fine...any advice?

I want to upgrade my HP Pavilion 7960, which currently comes with 128 MB of RDRAM (factory). I've seen LOTS of different memory retailers online, but I'm still stumped on what to buy. DRAM, DDRAM, SDRAM, I'm not sure which I really could use. I know that my computer requires that I install memory in pairs, since it has 4 memory slots, meaning that currently it has two sticks of 64 MB memory. Can someone help me find the BEST memory upgrade please?

I want to upgrade the memory in my HP pavilion slimline 400-224.  After opening the case, how do I determine how many memory slots are available?  The current memory board is SK Hynix 4G 1Rx8 PC3L 12800S -11 -13-B4.   There appears to be another slot just underneath it and out aways. Can you tell me if this machine has one or two slots for memory....  Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Hello, For the model in Subject, it's possible upgrade the  RAM? If yes, what is the max? Is also possible change the HDD to  SSD? Thank you.

A:Notebook model: 13-u105nl Memory and hdd Upgrade

The memory is upgradeable to 16 gigs of DDR4-2133 in 2 slots or 2 x 8 gig.  It can take an M.2 mSSD drive, but only as an alternative to a regular 2.5 inch hard drive. There is a single bay and port and which drive you install depends on the adapter used.  HP has not yet posted a Manual for the 13-u100 series but the Manual for the 13-u000 series is available and shows access to the M.2 slot and memory. Manual  See pages 42 and 56. Memory upgrade is particularly challenging as it requires removal of the motherboard.  Post back with any questions.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

Currently my notebook has the standard 4GB of memory using the HP provided Hynix HMT451S6AFR8A SoDIMM, 12800 DDR3L-1600, 1.35V. I have been looking to replace it with either Kingston HyperX, HX316LS9IB2_8, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit or the Crucial Ballistix Sport CT6278900, DDR3L-1600 (2x4GB) kit. Both have 9-9-9 timings. My question is will the memory with lower timings and the density of the chips work on my HP 2000-2d37cl notebook with an AMD A6-5200 CPU? Also I was curious about postings in the forums where persons had lost the Admin or other passwords on theirHP 2000 notebooks or they purchased a used notebook that had a unknown password. They provide the codes from the error on screen and the reply's from techs allowed them to get past this and reset their systems. I hope I never have that problem, however where exactly are the techs getting the codes from? Is there some program or document available that has the code alogrithm? Thank You.

Hello,  I am looking to upgrade the RAM and hard drive on my HP Pavilion 17-e020us laptop (these are the first upgrades it will receive). I have 6 GB of RAM, and would like to upgrade to the maximum supported by the computer, 8 GB of RAM.  Which RAM chip model should I buy (besides DDR3L - I know that much), and where can I buy it from?  It would have to be a 4 GB chip (the computer is 6 GB, one 4GB chip and one 2GB chip; I will swap the 2GB chip for a 4GB chip to make a total of 8GB). I am also looking to upgrade the 5400 RPM Hard disk to a Solid State Drive.  The SSD should be around 500 GB.  Which models are compatible with my laptop, and which model do you recommend?  Also, to what extent will upgrading to an SSD speed up my computer and improve its performance? Thank you to all who help me on this.

Here is the Service Manual: Manual See p. 6 and 49 and 54.  The memory can actually be upgraded to 16 gigs. 2 x 8. Upgrading to 8 gigs is a good idea, however. For most people 16 gigs is overkill. The correct 4 gig module is this one: 4 GB (PC3L, 12800, 1600 MHz) 691740-001 http://www.amazon.com/HP-691740-001-1600MHz-PC3L-12800-memory/dp/B00CI08FX4 As for an SSD, you can install any 2.5 inch wide SATA SSD. I recommend a Samsung Evo 850 http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E250B-AM/dp/B00OAJ412U/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1462103742&sr=1-2&keywords=Evo+850 The amazon link has 250 and 500 and 1 TB versions. Othe SSDs are cheaper, and I have had good luck with OCZ. Stay away from the Crucial MX series.  The difference with the SSD will be night and day. There is no better upgrade money can buy.  If this is "the Answer" please click "Accept as Solution" to help others find it.

The memory for it is rather expensive. I realize that in most cases that memory should be used in matching pairs but
is it possible to use [1] 4 gig stick and [1] 2 gig stick together to make a 6 gig ram? I really appreciate anyone's

I am trying to upgrade Ram from 2G to 3.072G (I guess this is the max addressable with 32 bit).  Machine had 2 x 1G DIMMS in each channel. Bought and installed 2 x 2G DDR2-667 (PC2-5300), non-ECC, unbuffered, 240 pin, 1.8v, CL=5, 128x8. All I got was short beep long beep, space, short beep long beep....... Which means memory problems. I removed the 2G DIMMS and reinstalled the 1G DIMMS and all OK. Is the RAM actually expandable above 2G? HP specs say yes!!  If so, with only 2 channels, 2x2G, or 1 ea 1G and 1ea 2G? If the latter, should the 1G DIMM in Slot #1 or slot #2 or should it matter? I already tried one combo of the 1 and 2 and just got the same beeps. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks in advance.

I really used to be up on the latest and greatest thing in personal computers. It’s easy to get behind. So I learned the hard way that DDR 184 pin memory won’t work in a DDR2 240 pin slot. Oh it will fit into the slot with much persuasion but it won’t work.

I have an HP Pavilion a1120n Media Center PC. It has 4 (2 banks of 2) memory slots. 2 blue slots and 2 black slots. My PC came with 2 256 MB PC-2 3200 DDR SDRAM memory (it says that on the label on the front of the machine). Apparently the PC-2 is what I ignored from the start. I think that was the clue that I missed, telling me that I should have ordered DDR2 memory, which has 240 pins. 120 pins on each side.

I ordered the suggested memory upgrade kit from hpshopping.com. The 184 pin DDR memory that they sent to me looked like the memory I had in my Pavilion. After some very sore thumbs the memory did go into the slot, but when I turned the computer on, it would not start up. After 4 calls to HP, I still did not understand what was going on. After searching the Web, I was thinking that maybe I did have DDR2 memory in my machine. At a loss, I turned my Pavilion off, grounded myself, pulled one of my DIMMs out and counted the pins on the front of my memory. Sure enough I counted 120 pins. Even on the phone with HP they kept suggesting the 184 pin memory. I did call them back and told them that I counted 120 pins on my memory and the technician did not know what that meant.

At any rate, I’m glad my Media Center PC has... Read more

Nice link, I wish more people would do that. Did you know that your Maximum Memory is 512GB!

1. Did it work before you dis/reassembled it?
2. If so, did you try it with the original memory?
3. Double check all the connections you unconnected to make sure things are seated well and plugs are plugged in correctly.

After I upgraded the ram memory of my HP DV6 from 4Gb to 8Gb (2 x 4Gb Kingston KTA-MB1333/4G), Windows wont boot anymore. Hello Group,

I've had sound since the purchase, but today suddenly no sound. Tried all the diagnostics:
Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Sound shows:
SPDIF Interface
Conexant High Definition Audio
Working

Then Properties General shows device usage: Use this device (enable)

Adjust system volume shows everything at 100

Nothing appears to be muted - all speaker icons show operational state.

when WMP plays a .wmv video, the video shows, the bar chart on the SPDIF shows activity, but no sound.

when WMP plays a .mid audio, again SPDIF bar chart shows sound activity, but no sound plays.

Have pressed the + on the external sound control above the keyboard (100 times!), no apparent effect.

Note: at one point I did a Restore defaults on the SPDIF - could that have caused a problem?

Under SPDIF Properties>Supported formats only Dolby Digital is checked. Tried checking DTS Audio and also Microsoft WMA Pro audio, the only other formats listed. 48KHz is checked for sample rates

properties>Advanced shows two exclusive modes checked. No enhancements are checked under Properties>Enhancements Properties>Levels shows SPDIF with speaker icon operational.

No sound also when same files are played from a dvd.

Some setting with WMP?

I am worn out and frustrated from this - probably something very simple but cannot find it. Hope someone can help ...

Thanks for looking in.

Chuck

HiI have a HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC and it seems I have a problem with the graphic. It started months ago when the computer suddenly started saying "The graphics card ADM Driver stopped answering and recovered" or something like that. I solved the problem by looking for updates and installing them but now I have problems again. First of all, it seems that I can't ever update the graphic or display adapters, it just doesn't happen. Now I have bought an expensive VHS converter programme to digitize VHS videos but the programme doesn't work because there is something wrong with the Graphics or the display adapters. At the device management I can see that I have two display adapters: AMD Radeon HD 8350 G and AMD Radeon HD 8600 M Series. The first one has an exlamation mark and it says "The device has been stopped because it reported an error - code 43". Is there anything I can do to fix the graphics and display adapters? I have heard that these kind of errors are typical for HP Pavilions. What is the difference between graphis and display adapters anyway?

To the best of my moderate computer knowledge I cannot figure out what happened and how to fix it.    Heres what I know.  1. I updated to windows 10 about 2-3 months ago with no issues.  2. I have had no issues with WiFi until this point. 3. The wireless button enables and disables airplane mode after this recent windows update. Also glows amber signally standby. 4. Cannot find wireless drivers or even card name to manualy search. Network settings contains no options and when i ask cortana she claims that it is not supported on this pc.     Again, Wifi was working literally an hour before dinner. Afterwards, vanishing act as if WiFi was never on this laptop.  I hope I have provided enough information, if more is required please ask. I bought this laptop roughly 3-4 years ago, so by tech definitions its ancient I understand, but i see that HP supports tech for up to 10 yeas. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

A:HP Pavilion notebook slow internet problem

Hello @Omercito, Welcome to the HP Forums! I read your post and wanted to reach out to help you! In your post, you had said that currently your Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab103nt isn't performing as quickly as you'd like. There are many things that can cause a system to slow down or have visible delays such as: software applications running in the background, corrupted files, malware/viruses or hardware issues. Since you stated the issue is when you are browsing the internet, have you tried using a different browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox etc.)? You may find the information in this document helpful in speeding the system up and maintaining it. If you find the system's performance is slower when on battery power you may need to adjust the power management settings. Please let me know how this goes. If you wish to say Thanks for my effort to help, click the Thumbs up to give me a Kudos. Thanks!

Hi.
I'm having problems withmy laptops power scheme. It got infected a little while ago with some malware and since then the pc has been switching the power scheme by it self. Got the malware removed but the power scheme issue still remains. I've chosen through every single option in the power scheme menu and even created my personal scheme, but all it does is change the times to: SYSTEM STANDBY: 20 mins. As of now all the schemes have the system stanby time set to 20 mins. I can change them, but as soon as explorer refresh, whichever one is set will change back to 20 mins. If I restart the pc, they all go back to their default times with the exception of the one that is active.
Has anyone come across this problem before, and if so can anyone help me??
Thanks in advance..

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

I am just wondering if anyone might happen to have any ideas as to why a Toshiba S4547 Notebook computer would have problems booting up with two 2 GB memory sticks. I bought both of them directly from Toshiba in 2008 and up until recently I have not had any problems with the memory at all. Now I am having a problem where it will only boot with one stick in, but not with both.

I thought that something was funny when my computer started locking up on me and my first thought was that it was something in Windows vista. I'm testing the memory sticks right now to see if I can find a problem with either of the sticks, but as of yet I don't have the results back as of yet.

I did have the motherboard replaced by Toshiba in 2008 and since then have not had any problems. I'm not really sure at the moment as to what could be causing this issue because when I take either chip and insert it into Dimm 0 it seems to work without a problem, but when I put the second one in on Dimm 1 it then doesn't seem to want to boot up to the screen showing the bios information at all and that is really making me wonder if there might be a problem with the motherboard.

I bought the computer brand new in May of 2007 and until I made a mistake with a memory card and screwed upt the motherboard that I had to pay for out of my own pocket I wasn't having any problems except for not having enough physical memory or hard drive space. Since the motherboard was replaced by Toshiba in 2... Read more

Hi folks,Upgraded the ram recently from 4GB to the max 8GB and now the touchscreen doesn't work. Everything else works fine (and the machine is much faster than before so at least that part of the operation was a success.)Double checked all internal connections, nothing to note.In Device Manager the 12C HID device is marked as a problem, and it reports that 'this device cannot start, Code 10, device returned an invalid HID descriptor'.Driver is from 2006 but there seems to be no newer version.Tried updating/uninstalling/reinstalling/disabling the problem device to no avail.I've since updated all  the drivers that have an update available, relevant devices or not.Rotation Lock is greyed out and if I do rotate the machine it sometimes gets stuck in portrait mode.System info: 'Pen and Touch - no pen or touch input is available for this display'.I've run out of ideas so I'm hoping that someone here may have a suggestion or two. Thanks in advance

I have a PII-350, and I just added an extra 64 MB of RAM for a total of 128 MB. (I had PC100 and I added PC100.) When I check the properties of my computer it shows that the memory is there so I'm sure I installed it right, but my 'problem' is that nothing seems to be running faster with the added memory. In fact, I can't sense any difference from before and after the upgrade. Windows still seems the same, Unreal Tournament has the same number of FPS. Everyone said the extra memory would speed things up and make my system fly, but it has not happened. Was I just misinformed, or could there be a problem that needs to fixed? Thanks for your help.

Just bought and installed an extra 128Mb memory. Successfully plugged in, but on rebooting: 'Windows Protection Error While Initializing Device VPICD You Need to Restart Your Computer'. But restarting doesn't help. In fact all that works is removing the new RAM!
I'm running a Compaq Deskpro PIII 450Hz on Windows 98SE, in case that makes a difference.
I notice an earlier similar thread :suspiciou suggested that Compaq might require dedicated Compaq memory???

Yes, that is a very probable cause. In any case, to make sure the memory is working properly, install the new Ram by itself, download MEMTEST, burn the bootable ISO, boot on it & let it test the memory for a day or two (unless errrors show up quickly after the start).

A:A Memory Ram Upgrade problem

Most likely you need to shut down, then open the case, and remove the memory, then rinstall it...
Otherwise, it doesn't like the memory you have installed... so tell us more about that memory... what it is and where you got it.

I have a Dell XPS 600 - Win XP Pro OS - I am not getting any error messages - The machine came with 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, upgradable to 8 GB. There are 4 memory slots. I purchased 8 GB or DDR2 RAM - 4 X 2 GB and installed it. When booting up I can go into setup and it shows 8 GB of RAM. The machine does not seem to be faster or load programs any quicker. If I go to the Start menu - then click on Control Panel - then click on Performance & Maintanence - then System it only shows 2 GB. Do I need to change any other settings for this to read the full 8GB's of ram? Is this information correct or is it really using the 8 GB I installed? How can I tell? I would appreciate any help on this matter. Thank you in advance.

Hello everyone,

I want to upgrade the memory on my computer and i`m having problems understanding some compatibility issues. Currently i have a total of 4GB (2x2GB, 1 kingston and 1 kingmax) at 1333MHz installed. I want to give these two up and install a dual channel kit @1600MHz (http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX1600C9D3K2_8GX.pdf). The problem now comes with the MoBo which supports 1600 memory only in OC (http://www.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=UJShXz25r89XDhwm). Memory specifications for this mobo say that when 1600 memory present i can install only 1 dimm per channel. Does this mean they will not work in dual-channel? Will my system have stability issues with the 1600 memory kit?
Thank you kindly for your answers,

Mihai

My daughter has an Acer Aspire 3680 laptop with a Celeron M processor running XP Home. I've just upgraded the 1x512 RAM with 2x1GB. I used ddr2, 667mgz, 200-Pin SoDimm (Crucial brand) - which matches the specs of the orig 512MB. Everything went great, the laptop booted right up, and by right clicking on "my computer" I confirmed that it was now showing "1.99GB of RAM".

However, as soon as I opened Internet Explorer things were not right. Pages are not loading properly (most of the text on the page is missing), and trying to open any Word document only results in the error message "there is not enough memory or disk space to complete the operation".

Obviously the computer is not actually using the RAM, even though it says that it's there. Anybody know what's going on?

EDIT: Well, a simple reboot seems to have solved the problem. I was also doing some software work - uninstalling an old NAV Internet Security suite and installing a new Trend Micro Internet Suite. Maybe something had just gotten hung up. All seems to be working just fine now!

the first thing i would check is the bios.
is it reporting the memory as 667?
is there a setting in bios to set the memory to 667?
I don't know the bios for this machine so i cant help you there.

i have seen many of these laptops and all of them have been using 533 memory.
one of them had 2x1Gb ddr2 533Mhz modules and it worked fine.

good luck.

I am running windows XP Proffessional with 128MB of DDR RAM. I tried to ad another stick of 128MB of DDR RAM, but when I did my system went unstable. It crashed often, I had serious problems just starting Windows because it crashed so often. The system runs fine in Safe Mode. What would cause this. My geuss is brand or the speed differences. The module I added was by Samsung. I'm not sure of the manufacturer of the original module but it wasn't Samsung.

I suggest you stop by www.crucial.com and select your computer ( or motherboard) and see what RAM will need.
I suspect that you have either an incompatible RAM stick or the stick is bad

Hey, I recently decided to upgrade my computer RAM. Checked out the Motherboards an ASROCK P4i45GV.

Under the motherboard information in the user manual it states that the motherboard can handle...

P4i45GV:
2 DDR DIMM slots, DDR DIMM1 and DDR DIMM2
supports PC2100 (DDR266) / PC2700 (DDR333), Max. 2GB
I Went out today and purchased, what was labelled to be a 1GB PC2700 / DDR 333 184 Pin Memory chip.

Got home and Attempted to install however the groove is several mm out of line and the card wont fit. Am i wrong but is this technically not supposed to fit?

Hi there,

I have a three year old computer with a ASUS P2B-S motherboard in it. This motherboard takes SDRAM, DIMMs, PC100 with 168 pins. Now I upgraded my system from 128 MB to 256 MB with a new modul but there seams to be a problem because XP is not booting anymore: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or demaged: System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys"

Both memory modules a running alone, but not together. Do you have an idea what the problem could be? Is there another specification of SDRAM that has to be the same but isn't right now? BTW, both moduls have 16 chips on it, so there is no ECC on it.

Thanks for your help,
Stephan

I have a packard bell desktop that had 1gb RAM 512 in each slot. Just bought 4gb (2x2gb) to replace the 1gb. Each module appears to work in either slot but not together. When I boot with both modules in I get a very rapid beep when I boot up and windows xp won't load. It all works fine however with just 1 module of 2gb in place.

I am running windows xp home SP3. I have been into the bios/cmos when the 2gb is in to see if I need to change anything but there is nothing I can see to change. It does show 2gb!

Thanks in advance.

I use an AST Bravo LC5133 desktop machine with only 16 MB RAM, and 1MB of that is used as video RAM. I decided to add a 32MB memory upgrade.

There are 4 slots for memory and the existing 16MB uses 2 of them. The upgrade came on another 2 cards.

I tried every combination of the cards in different slots but in every case either it wouldn't re-boot or it re-booted but didn't recognise the additional memory.

Finally, I found a combination where it re-boots and recognises the correct amount of memory, BUT - the display is like "double vision". There is a second display overlaid a few inches to the side and below the original display.

It appears I need to reset something, but I don't know what.

Anyone have any ideas what I've overlooked (or done wrong!)?

Thanks,

Mac

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 that takes PC800 RDRAM (non-ECC). Before I upgraded I had two 256MB non-ECC modules in my computer. Recently, I purchased two 512MB ECC modules to put in my system. After I installed them, I booted up my computer and it says I have 1.0GB of memory instead of 1.5GB. In system setup it says that I have two 256MB non-ECC modules AND two 256MB ECC modules (instead of 512MB). I'm aware that when you mix non-ECC and ECC it defaults to non-ECC, but why are the two 512MB modules registering as 256MB?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Below is probably way too much information, but I recently purchased a 1GB kit to upgrade my RAm to 2 GB, the sticks are: PC 3200 400Mhz DDR DIMM. They fit in the slots and when I boot up the computer with them in and go into my BIOS setup, they are recognized. But the computer only gets to the windows splash screen and then gets in a rebooting cycle. I have tried these DIMMS in the two free slots, which are a dual slot setup. And tried them by themselves and get the same results, when I put the old sticks in the PC works fine. There does not seem to be many settings in the BIOS to manually configure or set up clock speeds, and while it is an old date, it is the most recent BIOS I could find. Thanks in advance for any help.
