Solved: Missing/Invalid Registry Paths

Q: Solved: Missing/Invalid Registry Paths

Hey Guys, I have a program to clean the registry and when i do a scan it comes up with heaps of missing or invalid path errors but once I click cleanup it fixes them all but then if I do it again the next day I have a lot again..I'm just wondering if these are something to worry about? Or do they just come about from deleting files and are no problem?

A: Solved: Missing/Invalid Registry Paths

Usually registries are left over when you uninstall programs that don't completely remove the program registries. If it isn't affecting your overall performance, it shouldn't be a big deal.

Acer Aspire M1100 AM1100-E1402A
Mfg Date 2008\03\07
Vista Home Premium 32-bit

It was running OK, but getting a bit old and a bit slow. I upgraded to a W7 desktop, but wanted to keep this one playing around with.

Ran System Recovery 2 or 3 times using the Alt-F10 method. First time, I wanted to avoid loading bloatware so ran msconfig early on, went to Startup to uncheck Acer Launch and stuff like that. Windows Update worked until SP1. Just couldn't get SP1 to install, including when I downloaded it from the web.

Then I ran System Recovery and let the bloatware run. It stalled at 9/11. Again, Windows Update worked until SP1.

Then I tried System Recovery using discs, instead of Alt-F10. It failed for some reason. I have a couple other System Recovery discs from an laptop and an eMachine laptop. I tried them with the same result. Recovery starts, writes over the C drive, then fails.

The message is:
The system registry contains invalid file paths. Installation cannot proceed. This system image was applied without guaranteeing that drive-letter assignments would match across computers.

So now I'm stuck.

I googled the error message, but generally ended up in discussion boards that are over my head. I think I saw some discussion about partition. I have a foggy memory that this desktop may have arrived with the HDD partitioned into something like 120 and 200 GB partitions. I think I removed the partition. I wonder if this has contributed to the problem? Then... Read more

A:Vista System Recovery failure - "system registry contains invalid file paths" - canno

The vista image extracts to the temporary drive letter D.

If you use a regular installation dvd and MS standard setup.exe, it will fix the os registry letter correctly. (Defaults to the first letter i.e. C as A and B are reserved for floppies )

If you are trying to restore from a factory image, you will have trouble because there is now another os on the machine.

I have a script I use for it.

You could get it to work , but it is a lot of mucking around.

It is just easier to use a Vista install dvd ( not the same as your factory recovery image ), boot it up, and install to your desired partition.

I've used Adobe's Framemaker 8.x for several years on a Dell Inspiron running Vista Home Premium. Lately, when I try to open the program I get the message "Registry information invalid or missing."

I tried all the things in Adobe's knowledge base, to no avail.

I tried disabling everything except the FrameMaker program; still didn't work.

I would like to re-install and start over. However, I purchased it as a download and I copied the information they sent me to a backup disk. That disk has on,y "repair" "modify" or "uninstall" as choices. I choose "repair" or "modify" and then Framemaker will open.

Does anybody know how to fix the registry editor? I downloaded and used Registry Mechanic, but that didn't work.

From what I read, I don't want to be messing in the registry unless I really know what I'm doing!

I use WinAso Registry Optimizer; when I run it my computer crashes when it gets to Invalid File Paths, but when I remove the invalid file paths flag, it completes the process just fine. I would like some advice on correcting invalid file paths...thanks.

A:Invalid File Paths

Don't use registry cleaners. If you continue to use them, chances are that crashes will be among the least of your problems. Those things are junk, do only harm, and you should be thankful you were even able to reboot. Performance is not improved by using them, they remove needed entries, and they create their own "errors" so that they can "fix" them, making worse errors in the process.

Do yourself a favor, and if a registry cleaner offers to do something you don't understand, decline. It's far easier to clean the system to death than to actually fix something with a registry cleaner.

I am also facing a similiar issue, like given in the thread - Cannot delete shortcut file

I cant deleted some invalid paths and shortcuts in the system....
Here when I open any application and try to insert or open a file for that application, I am facing the problem.

For Example,
In VLC Player, I click on Media --> Open File

This gives you the Box to select the file you want and in the bottom of that small window in the " File name " box, you will be having a drop down box to select the file.
Here all the deleted files are listed with the file name and path, which was deleted months ago...
When you select the file it says, "Path does not exist, try again"
So, I think all the invalid shortcuts are stored some where in the system, which displays there.
So we need to deleted that particular cache.
I found out that there is something called " Indexed Cache " in Vista, which saves all the shortcuts as the files are stored.
I need to find out how to delete the file shortcuts from that location.
Please help.

Similiar issue is there in Outlook 2007, when I compose a new message and insert file.
It gives the drop down box like the above issue with all the deleted files path.

I tried rebuilding the Indexing Options as advised before.
It didnt work.
I performed all the basic steps, like deleting cookies, temp files from system, ran chkdsk, disk cleanup, and also used some popular and unpopular cleaning software and nothing worked.

Here's my story. I've just managed to change a systems boot letter from E:\ to C:\. The machine is working fine now, but all the programs that were installed are still looking in E:\ which no longer exsists. I've gone through and changed a few of these paths manually, but after an hour of that i realised it'll take far too long to do it this way.

What i'm looking for is a tool to look through the registry and replace all instances of "E:\" with "C:\". Does anyone know if such a product is available? It's be a great help.

Thanks in advance

I just ran a Spybot S&D scan and for the first time since first downloading this program I came up with missing dll files, wrong registry paths, etc. Over the weekend, I had a power surge and it seems that I've had some minor problems with different programs. For instance, I had to reload my McAfee Virus Scan again this morning before running my online scan, which is unusual. Updates aren't unusual, but this seemed to load files that load when I first downloaded the program???? Also my directX files were missing. I guess this may be a tiny bit off the subject here, but I am attempting this in windows 7.

I have a program file manager tool called 'Directory Opus' that is capable of calling windows external programs and passing them the current directory the file manager is sitting on.

So far so good.

Now I want to call a cygwin (linux/unix emulator for windows) terminal with that file manager.

Checking properties on the cygwin Icon I got the path: C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico -

So it is a path to a command and an argument to that command.

Actually I guess it is 2 arguments to a command since I think '-' in that position means to feed anything on STDIN to the command. At least that would be true in unix shell programming.

So using the Directory opus setup I pass this call:
'@async:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - <and here add {s}>'

So the call ends up:
'@async:C:\cygwin\bin\mintty.exe -i /Cygwin-Terminal.ico - {s}'

That call does just what it is supposed to. It passed the current file absolute address however cygwin terminal does not understand the windows path notation. If I were passing it: C:\subdir\blah\ It would just say 'No such file' Cygwin terminal wants to see /cygdrive/c/subdir/blah Or at least I think that is what is happing.

So to cut to the chase.... I'd like to put a little wrapper to Cygwin terminal in there with the code necessary to convert 'C:\subdir\blah\' to '/cygdrive/c/subdir/blah/'

But, I do not know how ... Read more

Basically I had an old version of itunes (6) where everything worked as it should, but have just got a iphone, so wanted to upgrade to the latest itunes. But now everytime I try and start it I get this message:

Warning! The registry used by theitunesdrivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes.

I have tried to research and look for help, following the information given on the apple forum:

I have been having some malware issues, and received phenomenal help from one of the members (Eddie5659) in that forum. I am now clear of malware, but still having a sound issue. I can hear sounds when I play a file that is hosted on the computer, like itunes, etc., and can hear all the test sounds in the directx sound tester. When I try to play a video on google, youtube, etc, there is no sound.. I do not have any system sounds either.

I think it is related to missing registry files. When I run regedit on my wifes computer, or my laptop, in the drivers32 file are multiple entries, including midimapper and wavemapper. when I run regedit on my computer, in the drivers32 file ther eis only one entry titled "default" and no value set for it. Don't worry, I have never done anything other then look with regedit, since I don't really know what a registry is.

I have searched online for 2 weeks without luck for a fix for this.

any help would be appreciated.

Hello all. Preemptive thanks to whomever may end up helping me.

I recently decided to try and clean my hard drive up a little bit and deleted a few old unused programs using Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs. Mostly old video games and the like. After rebooting I seem to have deleted something more important, as I am now prompted at Desktop Initialization with this error message.

.NET Framework Initialization Error
Please set registry key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point
to the .NET Framework install location

It also pops up when trying to run certain applications, like Borderlands 2 or XCOM Enemy Within. I've only encountered it with these games but I'm sure there are other non-game applications that will give me this prompt down the road too.

Control Panel tells me that I currently have .NET Framework 4.5.1 installed, and I'm running Windows 7 so I believe that means that .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 are also baked into the OS delivery.

Running CCleaners registry scan tool shows 12 Missing Shared DLL's in the C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705 folder under the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls keys.

I've tried repairing the 4.5.1 install via the Control Panel command, and also tried running the .NET Framework Repair Tool provided by Microsoft. Neither attempts have helped. I was about to try Step 3 and 4 listed here at Aaron Stebner's WebLog for diagnosing and correcting .NET Framewor... Read more

I can't change my wallpaper, although, I can make it different block colours.

I've tried alot of things to solve this, but I think I've come to a conclusion - That I am missing registries for the desktop and wallpaper.

Is there any place where I can download the basic Windows XP SP2 Registry?
Without it removing any other registries eg. For games or other programs.

Just the standard that fills in any missing or corrupt .reg files...

Hello. I recently installed Outlook 2003 (for the purpose of having an address book that can be synced with an iPhone). I understood that it would show up in iTunes as one of the programs listed for syncing. It does not.

As I did some research, it was suggested that I go to my Internet Options > Programs to set Outlook as the default mail, calendar, contacts handler. The only problem is that Oultook is not listed there! Outlook Express is, but no Outlook.

As I poked around a bit more, it seems that the issue is that the Outlook is not properly in the registry. I have only a vague sense of what that means and do not know how to fix the problem -- if in fact that is the problem.

Under that it says
Then name of DVD I have in player
When I go to DVD RW Drive D:\ it has name of DVD I have in player

Was fixed with the scanner that:

Fixes invalid Registry entry with "C:\Documents and Settings\Costa\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\0," file version: N/A.

Any thoughts on how to permenantly resolve this problem

My Mom has Word 97 on her comjputer and recentrly everytime she goes to use it she gets the message the windows registry has reported that one or more of the required files are damaged or missing, and advises to reinstall from the Word CD.

I have tried reinstalling however it gets to the place where it says checking for installed components and it simplly sits there and nothing else happens.

I have tried uninstalling it however it asks for the Word CD and when I put the Office CD in the drive it says it is the wrong disk.

I have tried reinstalling to a different folder however have the same problem with it hanging.

I tried a forced uninstall using Unistaller Pro however even though Word no longer shows in the list in the add remove software list, it still sees it when trying to reinstall and asks if you want to upgrade or install in a different directory. No matter what I choose it always hangs at the same place.

I tried installing Office 2003 however does the exact same thing and hangs in the exact same spot.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Old problem. jscripb and vbscript need to be registered. XP Home 2002 version sp2 machine, virus and spyware free. Now I have to fix it!

Again, as per microsoft support kb 831430 Method 1 tried Run/msconfig/regsvr32 jscript.dll, etc doesn't work. Registering fails. Error 0x800004005. Even booted in safe mode so I could be THE administrator (as opposed to the computer administrator my user profile is already) and I got the same message. Tried the second way to register this with msconfig and expanding a file. I had tried this second part of Method 1 before and I think it might have worked, but when it came to registering the dll's, same error 0x800004005. So that failed.

I can access both dll's off the XP disc using explorer, but don't know what to do with them!

Got the nerve to try Method 2 of the kb 831430. Navigated to where the registry key should be and no key. no HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_SOFTWARE/CLASSES/CLSID/{f414c........

What do I do now? How do I restore this key?

Can I cut and paste the key from my son's XP computer which is across the room from this one?

This stems from trying to fix a Publisher 2000 issue that came up from a faulty Microsoft Office 2000 update that cannot be removed. (Can't cut and paste from one Publisher file to another Publisher file, something I do all the time for work). Need to remove Publisher and reinstall. A:Invalid Registry Path 2 Problems

PCMightyMax is a scumware program. It'll trash your computer. Removing it is a pain the the butt because it doesn't use a standard uninstall feature. Get rid of it.Remove PC Mighty MaxOnce it is gone run System File Checker. Go to Start > Run and type sfc /scannow into the box and press the <Enter> key. You may need to have your WinXP CD ready if it asks for it. If you do not have a WinXP CD reply back.

Norton System Works uncovered nine (9) invalid entries in the ActiveX/COM sections of my Windows Registry.

The nine affected keys:

AWFile\Defaultcom, COLFile\Defaultcom, ELMFile\Defaultcom, FFAFile\Defaultcom, FFLFile\Defaultcom, FFTFile\Defaultcom, FFXFile\Defaultcom, DPCFile\Defaultcom and STFFile\Defaultcom.

The nine keys all refer to a missing icon:

C:\Program Files\\backup\mi\misc.exe,6

I cannot find "misc.exe,6" either in the "mi" folder, or anywhere on the computer. Can anyone help me get this file?

Also, it is the first time I have ever seen the extension ".exe,6" or anything similar? Has anyone seen this extension?

A:Invalid ActiveX/COM Registry Entries

There should not be ANY directory
That would be part of a virus/trojan/other nasty.
The exe,6 points to the 6th icon within that exe-file.

That file misc.exe in your reference is with 99.9% certainty NOT the official MS file.

Not trusting Norton (ever) I would suggest to go to this post here first, and follow the instructions EXACTLY, especially about UPDATING and HJT-location.

When trying to install Paragon Backup & Recovery, I received an Error 1324 the file (or Path) "Memeo - Free Agent" contains an invalid character. So I RegEdit -> search for every instance of "Memeo" and changed the following:

G:\Memeo - Free Agent\RNC-01 BackUp\My Received Files\

G:\Memeo-Free_Agent\RNC-01_BackUp\My Received Files\

Thinking the INVALID characters were the spaces in between. Now I am getting an Error 1325 instead of the previous Error 1324. Can anyone help me identify what I need to changed?

I am attaching a pic of the registry file, if it helps.

I have a couple of problems with Win2k. Not sure if they are related. Occassionally I get an error message that says the following:

d:\Docume~1\Ran\Desktop|Shortc~1.PIF System\Current\Controller\Virtual\Device Drivers. VDD. Virtual Device Driver in the registry is invalid. Choose 'close' to terminate the application.

The most recent instance of this message was when I clicked on the dos prompt in Win2k.

The other problem I am having is that when I choose the "restart" option instead of shutting down in Win2k, Win2k doesn't restart. The monitor shuts off, but not the power to the monitor. I end up doing a hard reboot to get the computer to return to Win2k desktop.
Also, when choosing the "shut down option" instead of 'restart', the monitor shuts off, but not the power to the monitor and the hard drive doesn't appear to shut off and won't respond at all to me pressing the on and off switch. I end up shutting the hard drive off with the surge protector after I have turned the monitor off.

I do not have any screen savers turned on nor any green functions. And have my power management set to "desktop status".

System is not prompting me to run scandisk at startup.

Any idea what is causing any of this?

A:Ok? to delete invalid registry files? duplicates?

How do you know they are invalid? Be very careful about deleting keys. Even the best registry cleaning programs make a lot of mistakes.

Duplicate entries, such as entries in the Control Sets or in HKCU and HKLM are normal and needed.

Does anyone know where the registry entry for the startup items in Task Manager are?

I have a couple there that don't exist anymore. They are set to disabled but I'd like to remove them completely from the list.

Thanks in advance

A:Registry entry for invalid startup items

One way is to download "autoruns" and delete the entires from there. Autoruns is portable and free. Just download, unzip and run as admin and it will show you those entries which can be deleted from within. Please do not touch anything else unless you understand the consequences. The ones you would recognize would be under the Logon Tab:

You can download autoruns here:

Okay, so this morning I turned on my desktop computer, and I got a blue screen with an error message. I don't know why this happened, yesterday it was working fine. Here's part of the message:

STOP: c0000218 {Registry file failure} the registry cannot load the hive (file): \systemRoot\System32\config\sam

I rebooted my computer, and it said something about turning off wrong, and gave me options to either boot into safe mode, restart normally, or restart at the time that worked normally. All of them lead to the same error mesage with the blue screen.

I did a little research on this error, and found a microsoft help page about it:
Instead of using the recovery console from the CD, I used my computer's recovery console (everytime I reboot, it gives me an option to go into the recovery console or continue normally, so I entered that recovery console, thinking it was the same as the CD's recovery console...) 1) Invalid or empty file class .shtml\OpenWithProgids\shtmlfile. This is located in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.shtml\OpenWithProgids

2) Unused registry key .sys\OpenWithList. Path same as above as far as and including File Exts.

Do I have errors here that need to be put right?

Thanks for any help.

A:C cleaner finds invalid or empty files in registry scan

While those are completely benign items and no harm will come from deleting them, DO NOT USE REGISTRY CLEANERS. Just ignore what ccleaner found and don't bother to scan again. So called registry cleaners cause problems, they do not cure or fix anything.

i'm sending this out from my iphone, so please excuse the format and lack of capital letters ;-)
i got a new hp pavilion laptop; os is windows 7 home premium 64-bit. when i booted it up the first time, there was already an administrator account on it, bearing the name of the company who had sent me the laptop. i renamed the user account and the computer to my name; but the paths connected to the user profile and the user profile itself (under "users" on the c drive) still have the old name. i did some reading and it seems that one has to rename the account back to the old name, then create a new administrator account with the name one wants and transfer the profile from the old account to the new one, then delete the old account if everything is working well; however, i believe that these instructions are rather for windows xp than for windows 7, and i have no idea how to copy a profile. i am not a computer geek and cannot fiddle around with the registry, and i'm new to windows 7. so: how can i rename the profile paths and my profile folder to MY name - or is it impossible to change, and will i just have to live with it? i also hope that if the situation cannot be changed, then this is simply a cosmetic 'bug' and won't cause any problems.

thanks in advance for your time and patience

Hello JoeLAD, welcome to TSF!

I'd suggest completely uninstalling and reinstalling the Java JRE in it's default location. Example: C:\Program Files\Java.

Afterwords, from what your trying to fix, you'll need to manually setup your system environment variables so that it will locate what it requires from the JRE. Please refer to this link for instructions to setup the environment variable to locate where your JRE is installed on your system.

If this wasn't helpful, please say so.

I just registered on these forums with the hope someone can help me with this problem.

I've got a new computer with win7 ultimate 64 bit and recently I tried to run a program and ended up with an error message: Component 'msinet.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

I tried to fix it myself by using compabilitys and even a virtual machine but I ended up having the same problem. After I googled it I tried downloading a directx and msinet.ocx and placing it in sys32 though that didn't work either, perhaps because those solutions where for xp?

So I really hope someone here knows how to fix this.

A:msinet.ocx missing or invalid

Go to Start and type "cmd" (without the quotes)
Then right click on the cmd.exe at the top of the Search box and select "Run as administrator"
Type "regsvr32 msinet.ocx" and press Enter.

If you get an error message, I'd have to wonder if this program is compatible with the version of Windows that you're using. When I tried to register it on my system it said it was missing also.

everthing was fine for a week or so then i had a problem with office 2000 so i used the add/remove function and remove it and then reloaded it and now it runs fine. my problem is that now when i go to "my computer" the icon that used to look like a hard drive now looks like a CD and when i attempt to open it i get the following message;

Settings File C:/Files/setup/setup.ini missing or invalid

I think when i removed the office 2000 files i must have lost the setup file.
I tried a "restore" but still the same problem so I went online to microsoft and becuse the XP version I have was installed by a reseller they won't help me (the reseller is about 2000 miles from me). Also i didn't receive any disks when i bought the system

I'm writing because my computer had a serious Trojan case. Actually, I am using my other computer, because although I seem to have gotten ridden of the Trojan with Simply Super Softwares Trojan Remover, it didn't fix the computer as such. The computer says all the time that a handle is invalid and doesn't let me do even the simplest tasks as opening Windows Explorer or looking at the System for Driver Signings etc. It seems to be sort of deepening - if I start the computer, then it lets me do a few things and then starts saying, that handle is missing. So I could check out the hardware settings and saw, that everything that has to do with anti-virus and internet, is down - drivers are missing, the computer will not let me go into internet either. I am quite perplexed and don't know where could I even get nearer to the problem... I thik the Trojan destroyed lots of dll files, as they are missing - each time I try to start something, then the computer says that either a handle or dll file is missing. Or both.
My op system is Windows XP.

I have had many problems involving virus/malware over the last 3 weeks (they started 16/8 around the same time as the install of NET Framework).

The first thing to go was DVDShrink, the application appears in Task Manager briefly but never starts. Task Manager was the next to go with it being disabled in Group Policy followed by the ability to edit Registry. Along the way there were the Porno/Nude tube shortcuts, Win32/Rustock.Q, Win32WormNyxem,Win32/Induc.A, Win32Backdoor.Delf, Trojan horse Dropper.Agent.OEK, Trojan horse Clicker.AAZY, Trojan horse Downloader.Generic8.BJDH, Win32/Heur, Trojan horse SpamBot.W, Win32/Virut, Trojan horse PSW.Agent.HOJ, Trojan horse SHeur2.AXPX and these were many and often. There were numerous infected Session Restore files, and problems (just today), with Yahoo Messenger not loading and Firefox Browser Pages opening but not reaching URL. Please Help!!!

Switch on this morning to get NTLDR is missing error.

Pressing F10 to recover says Invalid System Disc or I/O error.

I've tried the recovery console but any repair commands (FIXBOOT, CHKDSK, BOOTCFG) just say invalid disc or missing windows installation etc.

Have I lost everything?

It gave me other options including removing the invalid key, but I dont want to do the wrong thing. It also tells me that this is of MEDIUM severity and can even cause my computer to crash. Please tell me what to do. Thank you, Kathy

Hi. I've been having issues with popups and performance lately and my AVG and MBAM scans weren't finding anything so I tried booting into safe mode and scanning that way. Much to my dismay I found that in the middle of loading the partitions the computer would reset and I would get a black screen telling me that safe mode failed to boot and that I should try loading windows normally.

I opened up my regedit and low and behold, the SAFEBOOT subfolder is missing entirely. I'm not really comfortable poking around in the registry, the only experience I have with it is looking around. I really kinda need to have safe mode, but my computer didn't come with a cd that I've seen mention of for fixing this kind of thing. Is there a way I can just manually restore the missing registry keys by typing in the necessary information?

In addition, I noticed a few keys which don't seem like they are supposed to be there, I searched them in search engines but with no results. I've included the key and the information that comes up on the little side-panel when I click on the key in question.

Any suggestions on how to recover my raid array or any of my files?

OS is windows Vista, the RAID is configured as a 10 (Mirrored/Striped) with 4 WD SATA 250GB hard drives,
mb is ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe, Silicon controller in use, NVidia controller not in use.

Rebooted machine, and received the following error:

No valide deivce! any key to continue

(yes the spelling is like that on screen...)

Tried rebooting a couple of times but no change. Ran the WD tools on the disks, "no problems".

If I do a Ctrl-S to enter the SiL-3114 (Silicon Image Controller) Bios,

it shows the 4 drives under Physical Drive but under Logical Drive it says "Invalid Raid drive".

If I click "Create Raid set it comes back with "Not enough single drives to create Raid set".

If I select ?Resolve Conflicts?, it says no conflicts exist.

So now I purchased 2 additional Wd 250GB Drives identical to the other 4.

In addition maybe for troubleshooting, I have another computer that can run 2 drive raid sets.

I am not sure which direction I want to proceed to recover either my disk array or my files

without causing more damage to the posibility of recovering my files!

Please advise, thank-you.

OK I have a problem which is driving me crazy so please help if you can.

I have just restored my pc's factory settins, so everything has been wiped.

I have not loaded any programs or software on to the pc, except one game I am trying to use.

The program works fine on my laptop and I get no error messages. But when I try and open the program on my pc I get the following message:

"Compenent "MSINET.OCX"or of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid."

I have downloaded the "MSINET.OCX" file and I have put it in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\system32"

I then type RegSvr32 msinet.ocx in the Start/Run, it the say the registration is successful.

I try to open the game again the error message still comes up.

I have tried another method of trying to register the, "MSINET.OCX" file

by downloading the MSINET.OCX file with another file, putting them in the same folder and clicking install. This also does not fix the problem.

I have tried it on both windows XP Home and Windows XP Proffessional but still get the message.

I am not a computer wizz but I have tried everything I have found on the web to do, but no luck, please someone with more brains than me help, thank you, Ash

A:component richtx32.ocx or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid?

I would like to confirm that what program did you install when you encountered the issue. Make sure the software is suitable and compatible for Windows 7 (64-bit).Check its compatibility:
Based on my research, if the software ,that was released without sufficient runtime files, may gives you Error 339 stating file missing error, such as"RICHTX32.OCX or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file missing or invalid.", which need this file should be upgraded to work with Windows 7.You will need to download RICHTX32.CAB and unzip the archive and extract the file RichTx32.ocx to the X:Windows\System64 folder.(X partition is the system boot partition.)If you still receive the error, register the RichTx32.ocx module using the following command (from Start, Run dialog):regsvr32.exe %systemroot%\system64\RICHTX32.OCXYou should see the message DllRegisterServer in X:\WINDOWS\system32\RICHTX32.OCX succeeded. after running the above command.

Based on my research, Windows Vista no longer ships msinet.ocx (Microsoft Internet Transfer Control). applications which need this file should be upgraded to work with Windows Vista.

I get the following pop up every morning when I start my computer:
Line: 1
Char: 78
Error: Invalid root in registry key
Code: 0
This is followed by a notepad with a log and I have to exit twice before the popups stop. I also get warnings that Acrobat cannot finish its update. This has been going on for a few months. In addition, my keyboard will delay typing 5-10 seconds or type multiples of the same letter. This makes Copy and Paste functions very difficult to do. I change my batteries in the wireless keyboard often to rule that out. I am not very tech savvy but try my best and can usually figure my way out of a problem, but this one has stumped me. At the end of each day I run CCleaner and usually have 5-600 GB that is cleared up. I then restart the computer and don't turn it off so that our server can run its backup. I do notice that if I don't do CCleaner my computer is extra sluggish.

I have the latest version of Firefox (computer runs on Windows XP Home with latest patches and service packs). I'm having problems with my Google toolbar and my booksmarks toolbar. They function just fine. Now, when I right-click, then I can choose which toolbars can be displayed or not. I encounter the following problem. If I don't want Google toolbar to be displayed, the bookmarks toolbar vanish. And if I turn off the bookmarks toolbar, Google vanishes. So obviously, there's a confusion between the toolbar-paths. De-installing Google toolbar and re-installing didn't help. How can I correct this problem?

How do I reactivate these kinds of features from the control panel?

don't worry, I have administrative rights, Im in the proccess of removing malware and what not, and this must have been turned off at some point.
I have a number of programs already installed and it might be them.
I think I removed a registration cleaner, but I could be wrong I'll try and clean that out for sure.

Apparently it is my turn: Photos app no longer launches (clicking on the icon does nothing; no error report in Event Log). Trying to double-click image files associated with Photos results in "Invalid Value for Registry" message box. No explanation as to for what value is "invalid" and why it is "invalid".

It appears that the damage is user-account-specific, meaning that Photos typically continue to work fine under different (undamaged) user accounts. So, the only known solution appears to be to create a new user account and set it up from scratch.

Considering that setting up a new account requires quite an effort, this is not a real solution but more of a last resort "loser's way out" kind of measure. Hence the question: did anyone ever come across any additional information/research about this error? What specific "registry value" is responsible for this problem? I see quite a few reports about this error on the Net, but most of them seem to settle with creating a new account.

A:Photos: "Invalid Value for Registry"

Hi, understand.. can't directly point you to a specific registry entry, but this may be of interest for comparison- I used Nirsoft's FileTypesman. (The Userchoice field = AppX43hnxtbyyps62jhe9sqpdzxn1790zetc)

I'll assume you've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, reregistering the app.

Can confirm jpg's open with Photo app.

Are you able to associate (e.g.) jpg's with any other program?
Of course, it may not be an association related registry entry...

I've been trying to fix a laptop for a while and I felt this was the point to ask for help. I can't seem to find the solution online anywhere. The initial problem was that the computer would immediately log out after logging in. The wallpaper would briefly flash and then it would instantly log off. I did some searching and it appeared that this was usually caused by a registry value being changed by some sort of malware.

This website pretty well summarized what was going on:

I created my BartPE disc and ran the registry editor. I navigated to the place it said the value needing to be edited was, "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon", and there was no winlogon key. I'm running Windows XP so I immediately noticed the WindowsNT but I'm not sure if that would make a difference. Do I need to replace it somehow? Is it located elsewhere?

Any ideas?

Ok..Here goes. I'm not sure where this post belongs, but I'm putting it here.

I did not know I had an issue until I tried to play a game. The game did not load correctly, which gave it away. I never have a problem with that, so it's not the game.

The last time something like this happened, I just rolled my PC back to the previous point, scannned and that was the end of it; but not this time. When I tried to roll it back I discovered I had no restore points.

What I usually do is do a quick clean of my system before I play Company of Heroes, then shut Trend off; but this time I forgot to do the clean, and just shut it down. Then today I noticed it did not load right after several times trying, and reboots...
I have done quick cleans and deep scans, but it shows nothing.

I have also recently began to use iolo system mechanic, and I have read that that will affect the registry, and restore points.

Should I continue to use the system mechanic if this is the case?

Thank you in advance.

I'm moving you to the Vista forum.

System Mechanic may well be responsible for many of your problems. It has damaged many systems and there is another thread going about trying to recover from its damage. Sometimes, reinstalling Windows from scratch and all your programs is the only way out. All registry cleaners do damage. System Mechanic is among the worst. It is not "S & M" for nothing.

I haven't examined your log. If someone sees that you have some sort of infection, you may get moved back to Malware. But for now, this seems like a Vista problem.

I had at one time installed Bluestacks Android Emulator on my Windows 7 Pro SP1 machine and it worked fine. I uninstalled it and went about other business. Now, I want to reinstall it so that I can play Clash of Kings with multiple accts. on my pc.

The problem is that it will not install now, as there's something amiss within the Registry. All is well with the computer and the file system is intact. I simply need to use multiple Google accts. to play the game effectively, and to use multiple accts. on Facebook is a violation of Terms.

Please advise on this issue, and note the attached failure window for more info.

Hello -xp here.

In my trying various solutions to fixing my windows updates installing problems I've found out that I'm missing this very important registry;

I can get to this far in that registry path -

Can I add that missing path into the registry [after I make a registry back-up]-and how do I do it if its possible- or is it too dangerous?

I'm following this suggestion at kelly's korner site; under 'updates'.

Update - Issues

There are various solutions being put forth for the failed update result.

Option 1) Click Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Go to Cryptographic Services and double click it. It should be set to Automatic and should be Started. If you were required to change this, try the Windows Update site again.

Option 2) Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

If the key WindowsUpdate does not exist, create it by right clicking on the Policies sub-key and selecting New, Key and giving the new key the name WindowsUpdate.

Within this key, you may see one or both of the following DWORD entries:

NoWindowsUpdate and/or DisableWindowsUpdateAccess

If either of these entries appear, change their values to zero by double clicking on them and setting the value to 0 (zero). If they do not appear, add them as DWORD entries wit... Read more

Hmmm I think that is a triple negative?!
If you have a Windows Vista DVD boot off of that and choose your language and choose Repair Your Computer. If that fails it will take you to the RE (Recovery Environment) here choose Command Prompt and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter. Check Disk will try and fix any file problems.
If you do not have a Vista disc, your computer may have a Recovery Partition which you would access after bootup at the computer logo screen. m
