I just upgraded my 8 year old iiyama monitor for a new Dell monitor with a bigger screen with higher resolution - oh and I have got new spectacles. I had replaced the capacitors twice in the iiyama (having to keep jabbing the "On" button to get the current surge going) as I don't care for these new wide screen type monitors but I had to get updated eventually.

Anway, with my fantastic new monitor, I now notice that on both the Desktop (of Vista) and in Winodws Explorer all the letters "i" and "l" have an almost imperceptible red fringe or hue. How weird is that?

This happens whether I use the VGA or the DVI cable connection.

Amazingly, this issue was raised by wguru and Saga Lout on this forum 18 months ago but it is not clear to me whether anyone ever came up with a solution. The possibility of a virus or registry corruption error was mentioned but I did not understand whether this was ever proven.

I run about 3 virus programs most days and I woudl be devastated if I unknowingly had a virus. It is difficult but not impossible to believe. Having said that, I have occasionally tweaked the Rgeistry e.g. to get rid of "klingons".

I suspect I have had this issue a while but only with the new monitor has it become noticeable.

Any suggestions on what to try next would be appreciated.

As a newbie, first poster, it seems that I am prohibited from sending a PM to wguru or Saga Lout.

The lower case L on my computer has gone berserk. It will not function correctly in Windows. When struck nothing appears. However, if the caps lock key is activated and the shift key is held down, the lower case L works. The upper case L and all other keys work fine.

This is only true in Windows. Iím running Windows Pro 2000 and in the Windows login screen, lower case Ls can be typed in both the user name and the password fields. As soon as Windows comes up, it stops working.

I have tried three different keyboards, reloaded Windows 2000 and the keyboard software but the key still fails.

I would appreciate any help.

My computer:
--------------------------
AMD Athon Processor
AT/AT Compatible
256 MB RAM
--------------------------
The keyboard is a Microsoft Internet Pro PS2 (Brand New)

A:Lower case L does not type

You say that you have tried different keyboards, and that outside of windows the lower case L works, so the only thing that I could think of (and it's a long shot), is that when Windows has loaded (and any startup programs as well), a process or program has changed the mapping of the lower case L to perform some other function.
Have you tried booting into safe mode? This should stop any non-Windows programs from loading. Give this a try and see what happens. If the L works normally, then you need to see what programs are being loaded (in normal mode), and remove them one at a time (restarting and testing each time).

hello~

I start up my computer and after the windows logo loads a message pop ups that says: lsass.exe system error- an invalid parameter was passed to a service or function. I am not sure how to fix this since I can't log into windows in either normal or safe modes. any help to solve this would be greatly appreciated.

Seth

A:lsass.exe (lower case L)

If it's "lsass.exe" with a lower case "L", then it is a virus in the Sasser family, most likely. You'll need to scan it with a good antivirus either by using a boot CD with an antivirus on it or take your drive out and hook it up as a secondary drive in another computer. That should get you back up and running. You may have to do a repair installation of Windows after you've scanned it.

Hi I changed all lower case of "city" to Uppercase "CITY" USING Find and Replace. But when I tried to change the same "CITY" to "city" it didn't work. However I did get the message we have made 12 replacements but not even one "CITY" was changed to "city." When I tried to replace "CITY" with another word in lowercase, it replaced the different word but in Uppercase. Please help this novice in word. Thank you.

A:How to change words in Uppercase to lower case

Hello Mike, thanks for your reply. No I am not using Excel but Ms Word 2016. I think I found the solution to my problem. Find and Replace is case sensitive. Therefore to change Uppercase words to lowercase one has to go to "more" option and check the box "Match Case." I did that and I was able to change all "CITY" to "city" using Find and Replace.I hope this may be helpful to someone. If anyone has other solutions to this problem please do post it.Your novice in MS Word

A:rELACING Accident post CAPITALS With lower case

On the "Age" thing, don't even go there we have members in their 90's who get shot down in flames for calling the "Age" Card. I'm just 71 and, more than likely, there's a 17 year old reading this.
Unfortunately, in this Forum, once you've hit the "Post" button. That's what you've get, unless you grovel to FE and he makes the change with his Silver Mouse. But don't press your luck, he might weaken the once, but is unlikely to weaken a second time!
The technology is available but using it makes for sloppy composition and allows people to Post one thing and then change it, after others have replied, which might make them look stupid, which few of us admit too. Amateur - Yes, Enthusiasts - Yes, but Stupid - No. Unless you think that trying to help some damn-fool whose just done something unfortunate, is stupid.

Everyday I upload some files to my website and to simplify my website operations, I use the same filename and just upload a file with new information every day. The case of file extensions is of no consequence to Windows 7, but it matters to my website. I want to standardize on one case and it doesn't matter which as long it's the same all the time. I have one app, the snipping tool, which seems to generally make files using uppercase, but I have some existing files that are lower case. I have tried to get rid of the lower case extensions by deleting the file and then recreating it with the same name. When I do, Windows changes the case from upper to lower. If I simply create a brand new file with no previous instances of that file in existence (as far as I know), then the default case is upper. How does one go about converting all existing files of a particular type to a standard file extension case, be it upper or lower.

thanks,

atom

A:Change file extension upper/lower case

Not sure you can as Windows is case insensative, but have you tried doing it from a Command prompt, enclosing the filename.ext in double quotes as "filename.ext"?

If that doesn't work, maybe a two step process would.

ren "FileName.EXT" FileName.EX"
ren "FileName.EX" FileName.ext"

Thanks for any help.

PS: Bonus points to anyone who can tell me how to use Word itself to search across multiple Word files. Word's search is a lot easier to use.

Again, thanks.

A:Searching for upper- or lower-case words in files.

The only program that I'm aware of and am 100% certain can do case sensitive searches is GREP... but that requires doing it at the C:\ prompt.

Hi.

When I try to change the case from upper to lower or vice versa of filenames n windows explorer, the changes are not accepted. Also, adding or deleting of spaces in existing filename words is also not being accepted. I have admin privileges.

Thank you for help.

A:Can we change the upper/lower case of filenames in Windows Explorer?

Hi Seymoria, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Filenames in Windows Explorer are not case sensitive. This means that for Windows, the filenames ThisIsMyDocument.doc, THISISMYDOCUMENT.DOC and tHiSiSmYdOcUmEnT.DoC are all the same, the file would be found and can be referred to using any of these or any other combination of upper and lower case letters, as long as the name itself stays the same.

Therefore, if you have a file document_1.doc but you'd like to change the first letter to upper case D, selecting rename and changing the first d to D does nothing. Windows simply does not understand it, for it there was no change as the first letter did not change.

You need to work around this by renaming the file first to something else, then rename it again to Document_1.doc, this time using the upper case D. I use a neat trick here, changing the first letter from lower to upper case: I select rename, delete just the first letter of the filename, the one with lower case, then rename again this time entering the upper case first letter.

If I attempt to go thru safe mode, the options for safe mode, safe with networking, etc, com up - with the same upper/lower case lettering. Choose safe mode option and you get the same message as sbove.

I booted with the XP CD to attempt repair, came up with a different error message.

I am stumped! I would assume a virus, trojan, etc.
I know I can pull the hard drive and format it in another system, then go from there, but trying to avoid that if possible!

Any thoughts on what has caused this issue?

Thanks!

I've been experiencing something VERY strange with my keyboard (M/S "Elite" split keyboard) and had assumed it was failing but today I happened to use it on a different machine and discovered that the keyboard is NOT the problem (I'm using it now connected to a notebook).

Here's what happens:

In certain apps (noticeably Outlook Express) the letter "i" seems to be problematic. When typing a word containing an "i", like "Chief", the word will often come out with the "i" and "e" transposed (no, it's NOT my typing) and, very often, after having typed all the letters of a word including an "i" - like "Michael" - the "m" will appear on the screen and then nothing else - even though I've struck all the letters - and after a split-second I'll see "Mchaeli" on the screen.

Also, after invoking All Caps, the first time I use the "i" key it's still lower case. Upon the second use, it's upper case as it should be. Then, after deactivating All Caps, the first time I hit "i" it's still upper case, even though it shouldn't be.

The upper case problem has now extended to "C" and "O", as well.

What could this be? I know it sounds strange, but I'm hoping someone out there has seen something like this.

TIA,

Jay Palmer

I cant seem to get rid of all the icons in my lower right hand taskbar and everytime I click to remove them they come right back when I sign on again. I have always been told that could make my computer run slower than it should. I do have 3 on there that I dont think I am suppose to get rid of, for example I think they have something to do with all the external items I have hooked up. (I'm not very knowledgable about computers as you can see) 2 of the icons look like little pads with arrows over top of them and another one looks like a computer screen with a red mark over it(they say things like eject hardward, usb monitor, and the computer one just says 800 x 600 high color bit) can I get rid of these things? The only one i want down there is the clock and my antivirus protection. Can anyone help me in very simple terms please? I also have trouble when I go to a certain website to apply for a job I et a pop up telling me that I must enable my cookies before I can sign into PeopleSoft. I have NO clue as to what that means or how to fix it. I'm pretty desperate. thanks

A:problem getting rid of icons in lower right taskbar

I tried to attach my icons. It's kind of confusing, but maybe you can take a screenshot of yours? From left to right:
-The speaker is Windows' speaker volume. Not for the little system speaker inside your PC, but external ones. No point in trying to remove that.

Hi,

I noticed the other day that my icons have lost their quality (as if I had changed to a lower bit colur rating in display - but I haven't, I have a background image that still looks fine).

For example my Winamp icon is no-longer orange, but yellow.

I've done virus and spyware scans and they have not found anything.

Any ideas, all help is appreciated.

A couple of days ago I started seeing some problems, today they are out of control. I have Windows Me, Norton Anti Virus protection. It seemed like all of a sudden something was kind of creeping in. I ran all the scans I can to clean up my computer, but when I open a site it may be partially words and partially boxes or the titles may be there but everything else is boxes.......sometimes part of one word will have a box instead of one of the letters. Have I been invaded by something or does this just happen sometimes?? When I went to notebook it would only type boxes of different shapes and one e-mail I tried to send would not let me type a message.

A:Problem With Some Pages Have Boxes Where Letters Should Be

You might have a problem with the language selection if that has changed, or perhaps a damaged font.

Albeit you did some cleanup work, you might want to run System Restore anyway and start over with the cleanup and post a HijackThis Scanlog.

To launch System Restore in WinMe, go to Start>run, enter msconfig and select "launch System Restore" choose a not too distant date on which you had no major problems. All more recent installs or uninstalls will be nullified.

HijackThis instructions can be found here:

I have been reading this forum and tried using the same stuff to get rid of the keyboard problem I have but it wont go away.

So, basically i cannot type letters (t,u,o,p,j,3, etc.) on my keyboard anymore.
I have Avira antivirus on my Acer laptop (Windows XP, Service Pack 3) but obviosly i didn't work as i got some bad viruses on my laptop. I was able to ge rid of them with Malwarebytes Antimalvare and Super Antispyware. With these programmes i found for example:

Hi Guys,

I built my computer (see specs in sig), and After installing XP, my drives ended up being labled as follows:

Floppy = A:\
Flash Card Reader = C:\ , D:\ ,E:\ and F:\
DVD\CD = G:\
HardDrive = H:\

Now, for mostly everything I installed, I had no problem.. it just went right into H:\,
But.. now some other programs are looking at C:\ in parts of the install, and says I dont have enough room (due to its a flash reader). This is cuaseing me to not being able to install various programs, and its starting to tick me off.

My questions are:

1) Can I change Drive letter associations? or will that screw up everything I installed becuase the reg will be looking for the files on H:\ ?

2) And if not, would I have to reinstall win xp? can I even reinstall an OEM version?

3) Even if I reinstall and pull the card reader, wont the DVD\CD be labled as C:\, becuase it labled that drive g:\ last time, before it labled the hard drive H:\?

I thought this wouldnt be a problem, but now I see that haveing the hard drive labled H:\ is goinf to give me problems

any information will be helpfull, Thanks

If you've installed applications on other than the boot drive, then moved that drive letter, my guess is it's time for a re-installation of the application. It's very difficult to find all the references to the drive letter, since it can be buried in the registry, and various init files within the application folders.

I have a problem when I am moving files via explorer from one drive to another (right click, MOVE) and while the file copies, it appears to remain in the source directory. If I move a file to the SAME drive, the file moves without issue. If I try to move the file across different drives a second time, I get security prompts (event multiple times) that I need permissions! However, if instead, I just wait a while (a minute or two) the file does actually seem to be removed.

This however is fairly intolerable, as I am working with many files and would like to work at human rates of "quickly". For 30+ years I have been operating under computing assumption that machines work hundreds of thousands of times faster than mere humans. I have never noticed this problem before, not that it didn't exist, after all, [rant about Microsoft deleted for both our sakes.]

All that aside, there must be a root cause to the problem and something must be configurable to resolve the issue. I have found many posts across the internet with similar complaints, only to find Microsoft MVPs issuing claims of one thing or another as being the cause. Some users seem to think that turning off Client for Microsoft Networks in the LAN properties resolved their issues. Somehow, I initially trust that answer about as much as the MVPs on the Microsoft sites , although I have to credit the end-users with higher consistency amongst their opinions, than the experts there can muster.

I then deleted that address from letter X and wrote another address in the same document for letter Z and named it "Letter2".

I emailed them off to my girlfriend to print and she says all 10 documents feature the same address, even though i have pressed 'Save as' and i can see all of them in my documents are different.

Any idea's why this is happening?

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270. When I press the power button, the power button light turns amber, I hear some fans spinning, and the CD drive spinning. However, it never gets to the boot screen (or any screen). If I open the case and press the power button, however, the power button turns green and the computer works fine (loads all the way up and functions like normal). If I close the case after it has started, it continues to run fine. I'm guessing / hoping it's not the mother board or power supply that has directly gone bad... but maybe there is a connection or something? that changes from when it's closed to when it's open. I've heard of something like... the motherboard is shorting out by touching the case... but I'm not really sure where to look for that / how. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have an Acer Aspire X1700 (Details
It's about 2 1/2 years old now. Came with Windows Vista, I upgraded it to Windows 7. Also has a newer video card than what came with it.

Anyway, The PSU fan is getting really obnoxious, it gets really loud (more or less like a lawn mower). I have taken the thing apart and have tried every suggestion given to quiet it down, which it does for a whole week or two. This is a small form factor PC, so to even take the power supply out you have to basically take out everything else just to get to it. I have looked for replacements but they are very obsolete. It's only 220W anyway, so i'd like something a little more powerful.

What I want to do is get a larger case that I can use the same hardware is (motherboard, drives, etc) and purchase a larger power supply for that case. 220W really limits the PC. The small case holds a lot of heat even with all fans cleaned and working properly. Even just taking a CD/DVD out that was in it is very hot. I want a case with better airflow than this one.
I really am not sure what kind of case to get that will meet my needs. I don't want anything really fancy. If possible I'd like to get it off newegg.com

Any suggestions would be great.

A:case problem.. need help!

I'm making a big assumption here, namely that Compaq use "pure" power supplies without needing other cables to ensure a genuine supply is attached to the board (hello, Dell). You may be able to transfer the power supply to a new case however

Any ATX tower case will fit the motherboard in that case. If its a Pentium 4 or recent AMD, ensure you get a "P4 Ready" case (or other similar nomaculture). This will have the additional power cable needed by recent motherboards. If you're using the Compaq power supply, that won't be a problem.

You will also need the manual or at least the pinout guide for the Compaq motherboard so you can wire up at the very least the power switch, and preferably all the switches and LED's for the front of the new case.

Also, be very careful about case fans - a new case may not have as many (or any) case fans, and you'll have to attach them to the motherboard for power.

Hello everyone, I am new here. So please, don't be mad if I don't put this thread in the correct area.

I recently aqcuired a card from a friend. He recently had purchased a newer Graphic card and had given me his old Graphic/Video(unsure which) card. I made absolutely sure the connecters were correct and that my PSU would handle it.

However, there was a slight problem when it was finally here and I was ready to plug it in. I started to insert it in the correct slot, but I found my case was too small! The only way I can think of that wouldn't require me to purchase a whole new case would be for me to cut this small piece of iron that is on the back of my computer. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it is wise to do so.

Please, can anyone tell me if it is a good idea to do so or should I attempt to purchase a larger case in the future?

If you would like me to take a picture of the case, I can do so. Just ask! c:

A pic of the case, and where it is that you would cut would be great. Moding a case is not uncommon, I would say go for it, pending pics though.

Hi all,

I've been having a freezing problem since yesterday, my PC would turn on just fine, but after a while of using it, it would just freeze and I can't do anything about it, even after restarting, it would freeze from the beginning and I have to wait a while to run the PC again.

So I opened up the case, I noticed that the Case's fan is broken and it isn't actually moving, so far I'm using the PC while the case is open and it seems like it's running fine..

So, do you think that's the problem ? should I just replace the Case's fan ? or do you think it might be caused by something else ?

I'm currently using Windows XP Professional, I don't think it's a virus/spyware issue since I formated my PC recently and running Kaspersky +ZA Pro and I'm really careful with not getting such things in my computer.

Any help would be really appreciated.

A:Freezing problem, could it be from the Case's fan ?

The fan is there to evacuate the hot air from inside the computer and really should be replaced, I would go spend the $10.00 to $12.00 to purchase a new one. Take the old one out and save thew screws to use over incase the new one is from a cheap company that does not give new screws with it and make note how the fan is mounted and the direction of air flow there is an arrow that shows the air flow direction on the side of the fan it should be pointing out of the enclosure. And take the old fan with you when buying a new one and make sure you get the exact same size and the exact same connector on it and make sure you watch how the connector goes on the pins.

The computer appears to be booting, but the monitor goes straight into standby mode when I turn it on. Whilst I had the case open, I installed a new Heatsink fan on my 9800 Pro, which I thought may have been the problem, but I have used an old 4000XT, which was previously housed in this computer. Still, blank monitor.

I've already tried it with just the old 4000XT in, without soundcard and 9800 Pro (The old one is PCI ), should i Try it with just one stick of RAM as well, or without the HDD connected.

I don't think it is a broken monitor, as when i remove the cable from the gfx, i get a 'no signal' error on the monitor.

Any ideas on what it could be?

OK ive put this in the Win Xp thread cos i have no idea whats going on. Half-life 2 crashes to desktop with asound loop (but no error msg) and ive done everything i can thing of re drivers etc etc. Ive got a fan in the side panel of my case with a fan sucking air in through a funnel to the cpu fan. This fan makes my pc cooler when the case side is on. When i take the side off, and the temp goes UP slightly, it crashes much less frequently!! Please help if u can cos this has been bugging me for a month now

Try downloading Speedfan (alternate link if first doesn't work) and see what your temps are running at.

You might try under-clocking your cpu to drop the temps a little more.

Hello,

I just bought a DIY kit from newegg... my first time building. I bought an Apex MI-008 tower and an MSI AM1I motherboard. After hooking things up what I thought was correctly with the motherboard, CPU, ram, hard drive etc, the front power button on the case won't turn anything on. I'm thinking its a problem with the way the power button is plugged into the board... a JFP1 set of pins. But I really have no idea... I'm going based on some instructions included with the board and the case. Any idea of where to trouble shoot this problem?

Thanks!

well lucky me, I found a brand new case (after market ) at a yard sale for a dollar. It look ssuper nice with two s's! I Had a dell deminsion 4100 older model before the black cases(but still with the P3 at 900mhz) and was looking kinda dated to the shade of brown grey all the old computer turn from oxidation or god knows what???(anybody know what causes that?) any who- I switched out the main board and other hardware and perfecto- except for one thing the power switch . As it is now I am using the old gutted power button
which is on the chip with the two little buttons for power and reset. I wanna hook up the power button to the board but instead of one connector the case has each individual pin connectors seperate (which are clearly labeled)
so the problem is with connector goes to which pin.

If I had the shematic diagram for the board power switch input it'd be a piece of cake...... I can't seem to find that information though

any help would be gladly appreciated

thanks for reading this in advance

BTW it looks great except for the chip hanging out the front
plus it's gotta be an electrical hazard...
also unlike a car stereo the guess and test method could fry the board as it has no breaker or fuse in between I am assuming.

thanks, Brian

So you mean you are currently using a switch that is perminatly attached to the board from a Dell Dimension 4100? The switch on the case that you are trying to connect; is it just a power switch or a power and reset? Can you tell me also more detail about the connectors on the case (photo would be even better)?

Hey guys,

This is my first post, so I will try to make this as good as possible! I just built my own computer which consists of a Gigabyte P35C-DS3R motherboard, Intel Core 2 Duo 6850 Conroe (3.0Ghz 1333 FSB) 500 watt UltraXfinity power supply dual 12V rails, Ballistix ram sticks for 2GB ddr2, Seagate 250GB Sata, and Foxconn Nvidia 8800 GTX card. Both me and my friend built this computer (he is more knowledgeable so he did most of the work while I learned). We assembled everything properly and attached it to the case, plugged in every wire nescessary and it didn't boot. We double and triple checked to make sure that all the basic wires were attached properly (trust me, we really checked stuff!) and it still didn't boot, so he decided to unhook everything except for the motherboard and its power supply cable and he tried to jump the Power button leads with a screwdriver to hot wire it and it didn't turn on. At this point, we figured we had a motherboard failure, but we took it out of the case and plugged it in and it fired up right away. In fact, I am typing this message right now and it is all assembled outside of the case and it is working great! I played some games with it and it also ran fine and Power supply unit is giving enough voltage/current/wattage for everything so that isn't the problem. We are stumped and nobody else knows what is going on because many of my friends are studying to be computer engineers and they have built their own systems an... Read more

Hi all,

First time posting here as I considered myself to solve most of my problems since 90's. I work for IBM/Lenovo pc division, we have access to T1 Lan internet service and recently I have come across very very weird problem.

Today my firewall (ZoneAlarm 7 paid version) notified me of the presence of Winbo32.exe which I declined to have an access to the internet, later on Eset's NOD32 took care of it. But afterwards things started to get fishy (my internet getting trouble in accessing Windows update website, AntiVirus websites like Mcafee, Symantec, Eset's NOD32 etc however it has no problem in browsing search engines and checking e-mails.). So I ran hijackthis and went to hijackthis.de which reported the presence of winbo32.exe, so I went to safe mode and fixed it via HJT.

Then I cleared my old restore points and except the latest ones. But even after the removal of winbo32 I was/am still having difficuly in opening websites (not an internet issue, I confirmed this from my co-workers). Right now, I've gone to extreme measures from completely uninstalling the firewall to changing antiviruses, in most cases trying my computer with any, but there is no luck as of yet.

The last hope is to go back to factory state (a feature in IBM thinkpads) which I am very reluctant to try as I have alot of data on my system which I have to take backup of. So I am hoping for some solution. Btw I am even typing this post on a totally different machine as that system w... Read more

My computer case has a bult in temperture mointer that displays the temperature at the front of the case but now it seems to just display L degrees. Before it used to display the temperature in about 10-15 degrees.

Below is an image of the case. All is the same expect that the fan on the left side is not there. It was replaced with a panel with no fan. Is it okay that there is no side fan there, will that cause the case to get too hot.

I put my part of my one computer into a new case so I could make room for a new computer but I have a little problem now. All I did was to take all my parts out of my one case which I will be putting new parts in and put them into my new case and in my device manager now I have an exclamation mark in other devices and it says pci device. I did not put any new parts in I just had to take them out to move the mobod etc. The only thing I have in a pci slot is an audigy 2 zs gamer which has not caused me any problems before. It works great and everything seems to be fine. I have xp pro with an amd 4400+ along with and ati 2600xt.
Anyone seen this before?

A:Put my computer into a new case and now a little problem?

Is there a PCI device that this could relate to? I.e. do you have another PCI device that this could be?

IF there is then it's possible that it got damaged when it was being moved to the other case.

Clean all the dust bunnies out of there and replace that fan, this sounds like a heat issue because of the fan not working properly. When you take the case side off, it cools the area and so it keeps working.............fan, has to be replaced quickly.

Hi, I have a problem and wondered if anyone can help. It isn't specific to window 7 but I am building a computer to run 7 using old parts. My Antec case has two HDD LED cables but my Asus mono only has one input socket. Also the speaker cable only has a red and black cable in a four pin plug but the mobo socket has four pins marked speaker/ground/ground/+5v. If I use two HDD's how do I get both LEDs to work and will the speaker work with just the two cables instead of four. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Case wiring problem

Need some system specs, make/model of all hardware. I'm not sure what you're referring to with 2 HDD LED cables for your case. All the cases I've ever seen have one HDD light and that's the activity light. As for the socket to plug into, again not sure what your talking about. HDD's have 2 cables for attaching to the system, power and data and depending on age of HDD, as to what kind of cables those would be. Old IDE HDD's have the 20 pin or 40 pin ribbon cable for data and a 4 pin molex connector for power. Modern drives have SATA connections for both power and data.

If your mobo supports IDE HDD's you will only have one slot on the mobo for connection. You will need a 20/40 pin ribbon cable with master and slave connections. There are also IDE to SATA adapters to go from old style IDE to SATA if your mobo has SATA ports.

ps - the case is a dreamer 2 thank you

A:Case Temp Problem???

I'm not familiar with that particular case, so i'm assuming that it's similar to a device I installed in which the gauges gets their data from external sensors (wired probes that you place near CPU, HDD, etc), and not through the motherboard.

If that's the situation, the only other wire(s) should be your power cable for the display. My "Occum's Razor" hypothesis is that you have somehow disconnected this power. Test the wires with your multimeter and you'll find them dead. Simply trace back to the source and test the connection, or find another connection with juice and you're back in business.

Hey guys,
So there has been this recent issue with my desktop case. It isn't really annoying at all but I would still be glad if I could fix it So the front panel of the desktop as some crack openings. Its kind of hard to explain so i took pictures to show what I mean.
In this pic, I took a pic of the right side of the case as there is a huge crack and wont close as hard as I try! Don't know what I'm doing wrong :
http://img4.imageshack.us/i/photo0004cd.jpg/
This is a pic of the same side but a little zoomed out to show how it goes from a huge crack and its perfect near the down part of the case :
http://img196.imageshack.us/i/photo0006co.jpg/
Here is a pic of a top view of my desktop. You can see there is a crack all the way across the top that won't close:
http://img140.imageshack.us/i/photo0005a.jpg/
Here is a pic of the other side of the case from like a birds eye sorta view. You can see how at the top the crack is huge but as it go to the bottom, its perfectly stuck together and there is no crack:
http://img190.imageshack.us/i/photo0007sy.jpg/

As you can see all the cracks are on the top of the case and whatever I have tried, the cracks just don't fix! They always do that and never stick to each other. Any suggestions or anything to fix it?

Now another question comes up regarding modifying the cooling of my case/ computer etc.

I was wanting to carve two 3 1/2" holes in the top of my case, for two 12cm fans. Now I know fully how to do this, however, I was wondering which direction the air flow should go. Should the fans blow into my case? (Like I suspect) Or should I have them blow out?

The orange highlights are the fans I wish to add. Which direction should I have the air flow setup?

A:Case airflow question before modifying case

I would have them sucking air out. Hot air rises, and the side panel fan will hit the VGA's mb, etc and spread out, also they are right next to the PSU. You wont have any really big difference either in or out , but I would have those two pulling the hot air that manages to make it to the top of the case out. and negative pressure tend to run a bit cooler overall.

Ok before i start this is the weirdest problem with computers i have had yet.

I just got a Tsunami Dream case with a lanparty UT 250g MB and Athlonxp 64 3200+ proc... The problem i am having is when i close the front door of my case my computer starts lagging out realy realy badly like the HD is failing. But as soon as i open the front door of the case it runs fine. I have tested this problem over and over.. and i do not know why the front door of my case when it is closed is making my computer lag down so much. Is anyone with a Tsunami dream case having this issue to or is it just me??

A:Problem with Tsunami Dream Case

Could it be that some switch is pushed in when you close that door?
Or that an inside hinge pushes against e.g. the harddisk when you close that door?
This sounds like a mechanical problem of some bit of that door hitting some part of the PC-innards.

I have sort of a strange query. I have a modified case with a window and lighted fan in the window. The fan was going out so I went out and bought a new lighted fan.

When I first changed out the fans the computer shut down but came back without any problems. A day later it shut down on it's own while idling and would hang at "detecting IDE drives". I restarted it and it was fine for another couple days.

It did it again today but this time it wouldn't come back at all. So of of course I checked everything, replaced all the IDE cables making sure they were working and snug etc...finally I started fiddling with the power supply cords to see if maybe one had a problem.

I found the problem to be the new fan, whenever it is connected the pc will hang at that screen and will not boot. If I disconnect the fan it boots and runs jut fine. The fan runs properly and appears to be in good working order, it is brand new and I tested all the power cables and they all work fine.

My question is what could be the cause of the new fan making the computer hang like that? I can live without the fan, but it's kind of a perplexing and annoying problem. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A:Strange boot problem and case fan

Could be an internal short in the fan. Or it's causing 'noise' on the power cables. Can you exchange it for another one?

I recently destroyed my Dell but I'm not going into that. So I bought a non-name brand motherboard from a local computer show. I have a freind that says he'll put together my computer after I get all the new parts, which I have minus the case. In the manual it says, I will quote, "This motherboard is designed in a Micro ATX form facter using a four-layer printed circuit board and measures 244 mm x 221mm." I was looking at new egg attmepting to figure out what kind of case I need to get New Egg ATX case selection . I found ATX micro cases, but wasn't sure if I needed a ATX micro desktop, minitower, or what case. Any help would be appreciated greatly, I miss my Half Life 2.

A:Problem with determining what case size to use

If you have a micoATX board then it will fit in any case that says it will support any standard size microATX board. Although a lot of times depending on what processor you are planning on using it would be a better idea to just get a full size case so that you have more air flow in there.

Hey,

I've been having trouble with the power switch on my Cooler Master Centurion 5 case. It seemed to be working fine for a short while, then at one point my computer randomly turned off. When I tried to turn it back on the computer would boot up and then shut off 3 seconds into it. It was acting as if I was simply holding the button down and then doing the standard ATX delay to shut it off. I disconnected the switch from the mobo and shorted the pins to boot up just to be sure and as I suspected, everything works fine. I left it off for a day or two and tried again with the same problem. It seems like it's working for a short while and then without warning it shuts off again. Cooler Master has said they would provide me a new one, but I was wondering if there is perhaps a way to fix it without having to send parts back and forth. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi All,

Within the last day, I built a PC for my sister using an Asus P2B-F slot 1 board (P3 550Mhz CPU) that has always worked with no problems. I put the board in an ATX case that I had previously used as the case for my back-up PC (bought a new one last week).

Swapping out the guts from my sister's older PC went pretty much without a hitch, but I'm having a problem with the case reset switch. Even though I plugged the switch in the proper place per the manual, the unit 'hangs' and doesn't restart. The monitor seems to go to Power Saving mode; the PC case power LED remains on and I cannot power off the unit unless I shut the power supply switch at the rear of the unit, then the power switch works normally. I tried reversing the polarity of the jack to no avail. This board has worked fine 2 other cases without a hitch. Any suggesstions on what the problem might be?

Cheers,
Mike T.

I recently installed a new PSU and video card, and now my motherboard seems to be overheating. I noticed it was over 55 celcius when practically idle, and my computer shut itself off twice. I opened the case and pointed a regular desktop fan into it, and the temp went down about 20 degrees and it worked fine.

I bought a regular case fan, and I am wondering how I should set it up. Right now the only fans are the CPU fan and the fan in the power supply. The only place to set up the case fan is at the back, right below the power supply. Obviously, the PSU fan blows out, and I set up the case fan to blow out as well. It doesn't seem to be helping the temperature at all. Right now it's at 47 celcius (it gives a warning at 50 celcius).

Should the new case fan be blowing INTO the computer instead?

My case just started getting a loud vibration which I can feel when I hold onto the side. This happened to me a few months ago but it sounded worse, it turned out to be a bad case fan. I canít isolate what it is. I suspect that itís the power supply but Iím not sure and I donít have another one to substitute. Iím positive itís not the one case fan I have running now.

An odd thing has always happened where my case makes a similar vibrating noise every time I make some kind of hardware change, it will go away after a few minutes. I inspected all of the fans and they all visually appeared fine except for the bottom PSU fan looked like it was running kind of slow and choppy compared to the others.

I think itís the case but could this be something else before I buy a new PSU?

Iím not sure if it would be related but here are the voltages from BIOS:
CPU Vcore 1.73V
DDR Dim 2.48V
3.3V 3.09V
+5V 4.70V
+12V 12.48V
-12V -12.28V
-5V -5.40V
Voltage Battery 3.16V

Also could this cause harm to my system if I leave it running when there is this loud noise and case vibration problem?

Thanks.

I heard that many of you keep itching your heads because of this problem; so am I. I've been having this kind of problem since I installed Vista. I like Vista very much, but it brings so much problems to me than XP. Ok, let's start with the issue. I often play Age of Empires III and in every 5 minutes it hangs for a short period of time. It hangs 2-3 times and the next thing that will happen is either it will show a black screen or hangs. Windows never responds if either of these happen, so I shut down the computer improperly. A:VB problem - too many IFs? Convert to Select Case?

I think there's a bit of a muddle here.
If you want to use select case you'll have to do it within the VBA code rather, as you have done, than setting it as the formula of the cell in question. That said I suspect you'd fare better looking at alternatives, such as using a VLookup and disposing with macros entirely.

Perhaps you could upload the file here so we can take a look.

Trying my first DIY with a FOXCONN C51XEM2AA MOB and I have a few glitches I can't find answers for. My Thermaltake VA8000BWS Super Tower CASE has a PSU supporter that even with pictures supplied of how it's hooked into the case, I can't fiure out where or how it goes in. Is anybody fimiliar with this case that might have some insight.

Also the case wiring pins don't match my motherboards pins in two instances.

In one instance the speaker wire from the case is 4 pins with the two center pins empty, but on the MOB the speaker connectror J1E1 is three pins of gnd, spkr, & +3.3v. So only one pin will be connected no matter how you plug it in ? Good news is the MOB has it's own speaker so it doesn't need to be connected per FOXCONN tech support.

The 'Power Led" case coonector is three pin with the center open yet the MOB is two pins + & - so only one can be hooked as is ?

Any thoughts on these issues will be highly appreciated. Thanks

A:Thermaltake Case & DIY PC Build Problem

I have had a few cases that sometimes don't match up with the MB connectors. usually I'll push out the connectors from the plastic housing where they are and rearrange them to match the MB's connectors pinout.

As far as the PSU portion I don't know as I have not used this case but look at a review I found -

until I got to the installation of the PSU. Nowhere does it say to remove the ceiling fan (which fortunately I had done anyway) and, here's the killer -- oh yeah, that seemingly fixed clear plastic ceiling fan BRACKET will also slide up and off. Just about killed myself trying to install the PSU around it and cut up my hands in the process. Once you realise the bracket is removable (no screws or anything, just figure it out for yourself) it was clear sailing.
Another example is a long brace shaped like a toothbrush to hold the PSU in place -- the extreme close up pix in the manual don't actually give you any context as to where to put it. Just huge grey lines. It's more trial and error at working out where it goes. Experienced users probably never face this issue! Click to expand...
