Solved: How to increase printed font size ?

Q: Solved: How to increase printed font size ?

When I print anything off a web page I almost need a microscope to read the print. This is a sudden development - although I haven't installed anything new or made any changes recently.
I can increase the font size on the screen OK, but whatever I print is still the same tiny sized printout on paper.
Appreciate some help and advice as to how to make my printout readable
Thanks !

The text font in the Chrome tabs along the top of the screen is too hard to read - as is the address bar and icons. I've set my graphics dpi to a setting which is fine for all other apps and don't want to change it. The Chrome default text size has no effect, Google has not acted on feedback and I can't find a solution by Googling the issue.

Is there a way of increasing the size of the tab text and icons? I'm surprised how poor the Chrome UI is given the cash Google has for development.

I use Win 98. When I print a page in Acrobat Reader the letters come out
tiny. How I can I increase the size ?

A:Increase Font Size In Acrobat Reader

Acrobat "documents" are images rather than documents in the ordinary sense. Reading them requires optical character recognition in both the software and the humans. They contain no fonts in the usual sense. The only way to increase the print size is to edit them in Adobe Acrobat full version, or zoom in on the entire document and make everything bigger.

I need larger fonts in every window and Microsoft program.

I have the display set to medium. I hesitate to go to Large because I don't need anything but fonts to be larger.
Under Control Panel > Personalization > I click on Window Color to go to Advanced Appearance Settings

I've already increased every available option to 18 pt font. For instance, Active Title Bar is set to 18pt font and I can see these fonts just fine.

However, just looking at this window (the Advanced Appearance Settings window) the "tab" that reads Window Color and Appearance, has a very small font.
Another few examples:
I'm in Excel 2010. The font across the ribbon is fine. The zoom is set high enough in the worksheet. But when I click on Sort & Filter, then Custom Sort, the window that pops up is displayed back in small fonts so I can't read the choices.
Also in Excel 2010, I choose the Paste Special window and the options displayed in this window are of small font too.
In Word 2010, I click on the Page Setup window and the fonts are small.
I clock on My Computer and the fonts around various drives listed certainly aren't set to 18.
In Control Panel the various fonts for each option are definitely not at 18pt.
The date and time in the bottom right-hand corner are very tiny.
The words description each icon on my desktop are small.

I have a 32" high definition monitor with resolution set to 1920 x 1080 because that is the recommended setting for high res.

Welcome to Seven Forums msdclark. As far as I am aware, there is no way to change just the font size universally. You already have done the suggested method. The overall displays are most affected by the screen resolution, and DPI (which affects everything, as you have seen. You can change font sizes in Office apps, if that helps

Change or set the default font - Word

You can increase everything, then use the Ctrl keyboard button and the mouse wheel to decrease icon size. It's not what you seek, but you'll have to find workarounds. A Guy

Not sure if this would help enough but you could try the following:

1. Click on the Start button to get the new Windows UI
2. Start typing "font" (without quotes)
3. Click on "Settings"
4. Click on "Make everything on your screen bigger"; this opens PC settings (which is different from the classic Configuration Screen)
5. Set "Make everything on your screen bigger" to On.

Hi, I just built my parents a new home theater computer and installed Windows 7 onto it rather than good old XP. They have this computer hooked up to their television and would like to increase the font size for better readability (from a distance).

Increasing DPI increases the font size but it also increases window sizes to ridiculous sizes making them taller than the screen so you cannot click buttons at the bottom of the window.

They have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, how can I increase the font sizes without increasing DPI?

I have an HP Pavillion also, (a dv5t) and don't have this problem, however, here are the touchpad customizations. Try re-setting them, and maybe that will help. (I've put in how I set mine. You, of course, will set yours however you prefer them). If this doesn't help, try the Font settings below the Mouse/Touchpad setings:

Right click: Desktop to open Personalize
Select: Mouse Pointers

Double Click Speed: Set slider to slow - slowest ( if too fast, double clicks won?t open files)

How to increase it?
If not possible, is there any good chm files viewer?

Welcome to Seven Forums albetkao. I found this, see if it helps:

This may be the way to do it:
1. From the CHM Menu click Options
2. Click Internet Options
3. From Internet Options window click Accessibility button
4. Check box Ignore font styles specified on Web pages
5. Click OK
6. Click Fonts button and select the font you want
7. Click OK

Also in the changelog for ver. 3.6 (looks like they are up to 3.6.5) I see this:

New "Choose Text Size" option for Internet Explorer publications (and new AllowModifyTextSize property in User Interface): you can let your users increase or decrease the default font size in pages.

Hi there
Any "tinkerers" or customisation gurus out there.

On a laptop even with a decent size screen is there any way to increase the font size of text of applications installed via "classic windows install" such as Office / photoshop etc. (Not Metro apps).

On those smaller but absolutely stunning "Ultrabooks" the text becomes quite hard to read too - if you increase the font size "globally" in windows then you have problems with some screens not fitting properly - so I just want to increase the text within the tiles.

enc magnified screenshot of a typical tile -- even here the text is relatively small .

Anybody out there !!

A:Increase font size Windows Explorer Folder Task pane

Have you thought about increasing font size globally? Right click anywhere on the desktop, pick properties, then go to the appearances tab. For font size pick large or extra-large. You may have to reboot.
Also you can use the magnifier tool in Windows to see parts of the screen. Go to start, program, accessories, accessiblity, magnifier. If your friend ends up using it often, go to that same spot in the start menu, right click on magnifier and pick copy. Then go to the desktop, right click, and pick paste.

P.S: Just a technicality: your screenshot shows the "common tasks bar" aka "places bar". The "Windows sidebar" is actually a feature in Windows Vista, which you can see here http://tech2.in.com/media/images/img...ta_sidebar.jpg (it's on the right; it's transparent, so you can't see it, but it's definitely a bar).

Anyone have a solution for this. You are on a webpage with a document you want to print. Let's say it's a killer pasta recipe. But you want to up the font size a notch or two. In IE or Firefox you can use ctrl+ to increase font size, but that only impacts what's on the screen. If you print with ctrl P you still get original font. The only way I know is to cut/past desired text into a dummy email (or Word doc), massage the font as desired, then print. BUT, I'm trying to dumb the process down for a marginally computer literate neighbor. Also, often when I print a given page, it comes out blank except for the peripheral stuff around the edges. That is, the main content of the page is blank like it's got a "print block" enabled. Does such a thing exist where the author does not want the content printed?
Suggestions?
Thanks in advance, Eric.

Is there some way I can determine which folders or files caused the jump in size? I have downloaded some small programs, such as an appointment calendar, a diary, but these are only a few MB. Also, I have updated some software, such as my antivirus (AVG free), Adobe, Java, Windows, as urged. I wonder if any of these could have increased the size of my data to 55GB from 49GB.

I am not so concerned about using HDD capacity. I have plenty of that for my needs. But when I do an backup image, my external HDD is limited to 37GB, and I have been using medium compression to fit the backup of 49GB. I don't know if I can fit 55GB, even with compression. That is why I want to determine the cause of the jump in C:\ drive usage.

Hello:

How can I increase the 260 char. path/filename size in Windows XP?

I just read the following article but am not sure what they are talking about:

Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces (Windows)

Thanks and help is greatly appreciated.

A:[SOLVED] How to increase the 260 char. path/filename size?

The article is about a path syntax that permits specifying a path up to 32767 characters. However, not all system functions will accept this syntax and neither will many applications. This is not just a Windows limit but one that is assumed by many applications. Many applications cannot handle a path longer than 260 characters and will crash if presented with one. Generally, there really isn't much you can do about the 260 character path limit. You really need to work within the limit rather than try to get around it.

Note that the article is aimed at programmers and is not generally useful to computer users.

Other than dogging the print preview, and struggling with the size in any pertinent image editing software, has anyone found a reliable way to limit or control the size of a printed web document?
to wit:
I scanned an odd shaped document, 3x8" to email to myself at another site, and the printed form was big enough for two pages. What a waste.
I print receipts regularly and they, 99% of the time have a "trailer" on a last page that has stuff like web site address or URL, a Secure Website emblem, or other, clearly unnecessary printing. My introduction to Windows word processing (WordPerfect) had, and I still use, a "makeitfit" command. Invoking such a command AUTOMATICALLY when printing from the web seems like a simple, brainless way to conserve paper...it'll give me a fractional font (e.g. 11.9 vs. a 12) and would prevent the idiotic tendency of a printed page to only have the leftward 80%, l which leaves off the important stuff like the prices...(you gotta print landscape to avoid this)
And I thought a computer was to make life easier, boy was I ever misled)

A:printed size of web documents

The problem is that web pages are usually coded to make them look good on screen, and that tends to make them "unfriendly" when printing.

Web pages designed for printing do exist, and it works well in those (few) cases.

Cutting and pasting into a word processor is sometimes the only workable solution.

Installed a bigger widescreen monitor but when I print emails (with WL Mail) the text is smaller than with old monitor. Don't understand it - went back to an email that I printed a week ago and printed again ... sure enough, the text size was smaller (the image contained, however, was the same size). Thought the font size (of text in an email) was 'fixed' when sent - so why is it different with a larger monitor.

Now, I did tell Windows 7 to display the text size larger (so could see it better on larger screen) ... but, if anything, I'd have expected printed size to be larger.

Any suggestions of what to do? (I know can copy email text to another file then go to NotePad ++ and change the size - then print ... but that shouldn't be necessary.)

Hello all...this is my first post, I'm a computer novice...so please bear with me.

While using MS Word, I've accidentally hit a combination of keys (possibly CTRL, windows START, ALT and others were involved) and it has reduced the font size to something like a 2 or 3 point when it actually says in the tool bar it's still 12 point. This occurs whenever I open a new MS Word document or go to write a new email using MS Outlook or go to reply or forward an email, it minimises the signature too!!!

Now when I go to open up a previous email or previous Word document, the orginal font size is maintained. So really, it only occurs when writing new documents or email replies. I don't believe it's a zoom issue, because as I type this, the IE page looks normal.

I've tried rebooting my machine, no go, tried various key combinations e.g. Ctrl + Shift + P etc, etc...no joy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
BTK

The question is not as simple as it seems.
I belong to another forum where the membership studies the Thai language.
http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=13
We are mostly foreigners who must learn a new script (alphabet).
In your early years discerning the characters can be difficult and like small children a
larger font is prefered.

Now when I post this message I can choose to set a largerfont.
And in win xp from the task bar I can choose to increase the size of my display. In fact there are a couple ways of getting around this.
Those options don't completley get around the needs of the people.
What would be nice is to be able to manipulate the display so that whenever a Thai Font, or ANY Thai font or sure a PRESET Thai font is displayed that it be displayed in a larger size.
Perhaps this forum is not quite the right one to choose. But I have been helped here before. So if anyone has vague Ideas where I can start working on this problem or perhaps know another forum that would be more suitable there are many students of Thai who would appreciate any direction you can offer ?

Thanks for your time

IE8 kind of limits font sizes and I believe what you're referring to is the % for a particular website, but I find the easiest solution is using Ctrl with your scroll wheel and voila, any size you want.

Similarly is it possible to adjust the font size of the drop down menus' Mine are practically invisible.

Is it actually a Chrome issue or Windows XP?

If you have a scroll wheel on your mouse, hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and then use the scroll wheel to change the size of things in your browser.

If that is not what you want then you will need to go into Chrome's options and look for font settings, etc.

I let my dad use my laptop for the week as I was away at a Christian singing camp, and when I came back, he told me he accidentally pressed some button that caused the text on google searches to be abnormally large and the text on other websites i.e. ancestry.com to be too small, and well I notice this as well, but it's only on firefox. I suffer no such issues on other browsers, nor does it affect my computer, so I consider this isolated to just firefox itself, and I was wondering how I would go about fixing this.

All my dad said was he accidentally pressed a key on my keyboard and it messed it all up. He doesn't know enough about computers to know what he could've pressed.

How do you make the font size larger for the browser headers and toolbars? I'm using Windows XP/IE6. I know how to increase the size of the print on the screen, but my specific concern is the stuff across the top that's part of the browser's program. I'm sight-impaired and finding that it's so small it's giving me headaches. I know it can be bigger, as it was fine on my last computer.....Since I'm using new hardware, it's almost half the size.

A:Solved: Changing font size of browser

Right-click on the Desktop > Properties > Appearance tab, set it to "Windows Classic Style", then click in "Advanced".

You can set the size of many parts of the Window and also the type, size and color of the fonts. The ones you should set are "Active Title Bar", "Inactive Title Bar" and "Menu". But there are also a few others you might want to customize. I like to set my fonts to Bold to make them stand out a little more.

This will change how all windows look, not just IE, but you might prefer it that way. When you have everything how you like it go to the Themes tab and save it. If you reinstall Windows you can save off the .theme file and reapply it after the new install and get your old theme back.

Me - I do tech support and training
PC - Dell Inspiron E-1505 Laptop, XP Media
Util - Comodo Firewall, Avast Anti-virus, Malwarebytes
App - Firefox, Chrome, Outlook, Lotus suite

This is an o/s issue that's come up after a virus was detected and removed. My guess is a corrupt registry setting.

SYMPTOMS - Text in Task Bar is LARGER than B4 virus threat. Ex: the size of the Text of minimized apps on task bar, also Date/Time in Navigation area. Because of the larger font the task bar sits higher. Looks sort of like in word processing using a 50 pt font in one line and then back to 12 pt in next, there's an added gap between lines. Hope I'm clear. Wish I could send screen shots.

Thanks.

Usually this starts when on Google Chrome. I bring my mouse cursor over the web page and it reduces like using Control-Scroll. If I go to another tab it also reduces that page. If I go to desktop it reduces my icons. (Only on movement of mouse or clicking) (I have a wireless mouse, but tried a USB with the same problem). If I try to scroll the screen back up, it resists the scroll and keeps everything small. If I try to type into the address bar it allows a few letters and then loses them and sometimes different letters appear. Clicking on links work OK. I tried other programs, solitaire seemed to be OK, but Audicity had flickering fonts. When I reboot the problem goes away, but everything that was reduced has to be re-scrolled up. It remembers the web pages that were reduced, even if I don't open that page for another week.

One time it went in reverse and everything went big.

Like one of the other posters, I am trying to make refrigerator magnets. I’m using magnetic peel & stick business card magnets. Then print my own photos on blank business cards. (Like the other poster I know they’ll be flimsy but mine will be for decoration only.)

But the problem is - I can’t create my design the right size so it prints out as business card size. I can't make a business-card size rectangle in Paint to use as a template - it's never business-card size size when printed. Onscreen it looks exactly right - doesn’t print the way it looks. How can I create an image that is business-card-size when printed? I need a blank template to repeatedly paste different photos onto.

Also, can I print business cards individually? -like how you print one mailing label at a time in Word? Because I won't need hundreds of them, just one of each photo or design to make one magnet.

FYI, attachment shows the product I will use.

Windows 10.

I am having much fun grappling with my displays. I say grapple because I CANNOT see the text!

I have a laptop, with a display that has up to 2048x resolution and an external monitor that does 1920x. I have tried to keep both set the same resolution so the mouse will easily go back and fort.

If I bump one setting, others seem to change. Like after an update too!

I need a script, to set, then set again, and again, the
display settings,
the custom scaling level, and
the "change only text size".

Keeping the monitor placement geometry the same would be great for me too.

Oh for a cross reference on Outlook 2013 to the system setting. I keep manipulating the view settings there too.

Probably to get started I could use a "settings display" script.

Help, please

Hi Muneeb and welcome to TSF !

You could give system restore a try : start => all programs => accessories => system tools => system restore. Select a date in bold prior to when the problem began. You won't lose any personal data but you may need to reinstall any program or update you've installed since then.

Else the system file checker can restore your system fonts. You'll need an XP install CD with service pack 2 (XP Home SP2 or XP Pro SP2 depending on the version you have installed). If your current CD hasn't got service pack 2 then you need to create a slipstreamed CD with SP2. Use one of these guides and report once you have an XP SP2 install CD :

Hi,

I was wondering how RAM is utilized by the system.

I recently upgraded my DDR3 4GB Crucial Tactical Tracer 1866Mhz to 8GB.

When Running Battlefield 4 (64bit) I kept the performance tab open in task manager and noticed that the Ram usage went up to about 3.2GB of the 8GB total, and constantly hovered around that area.

The load speed only increased slightly overall as well.

I am curious how extra RAM effects PC performance, as it would appear that I am barely utilising half of my current capacity. Would there be advantages adding more RAM at all?

A:Ram performance after size increase

My opinion is that the RAM performance reporting is bogus. I have 6 GB, and my usage hovers around 2.5 GB all the time. I have tried starting every program I have and the RAM usage does not seem to change at all.

Maybe someone here knows of a working RAM analyzer, perhaps third party...

A:URGENT - Increase RAM size

Go to crucial.com, do a system scan, and see what kind of RAM is compatible with your system. You can buy from their site.
