Printed Documents From The Network Stick In The Queue

Q: Printed Documents From The Network Stick In The Queue

Hi all,

This should be an easy one, but I've been banging my head against it for a week. I'm hoping I've just been looking at it to closely and someone can take a look from a different perspective, smack me on the back of head, call me an idiot, and point to the obvious solution.

I'm trying to fix a home network. It consists of one desktop computer, two laptops, and a printer. The desktop is attached to the router by a cable, and has the printer, which is shared, and the laptops are wireless. Everybody is running Windows XP Pro, and this is Lexmark Z45 inkjet.

The problem is with printing. It worked until about a week ago, but now when the laptops send a job to the printer, it just sticks in the queue with the status of printing. The desktop can print, so it doesnít seem to be the printer. The laptops can see the printer, they can connect to the printer, they can send jobs into the queue, but then they just sit there.

Iíve reinstalled the printer on the desktop and the laptops, Iíve downloaded new drivers, Iíve restarted the services, Iíve attached to the share using the computer name as well as just its IP address, Iíve made administrator accounts on the desktop using the same username and password as the laptops use, Iíve made a separate printer account on the desktop and connected using that, and theyíre in the same workgroup.

Iím working on the assumption that has something to do with share permissions, so if anyone has any suggestions I can try, or different approaches to consider, I would be grateful for any ideas.

I have 3 print queues that are retaining the printed jobs in the queue and every now and again the damn thing prints all the job again. I have checked that the keep printed jobs button is NOT checked/selected, but the queue acts ilke it is selected to keep printed jobs. I have 125 printer queues and only 3 act like this and they are set up identical to the others. I have reconfigured this twice on all 3 and they still act like they are set to keep printed jobs in the queue.

Anyone seen this and know of a solution, on the Microsoft site I am seeing posts but not a single reply about how to either run a job to clear them out a couple times a day or fix this so they act as configured. To NOT keep printed jobs in the queue.

Any help as always is much appreciated.

The race to solution is on, let's see who can figure this one out first.

Hi All,

I dont know if i've got this in the right forum but i've got a WinXP Pro Machine so thought i'd try it here.

The problem is that my print queue seems to retain the print jobs although the print jobs have already been printed out (i've seen it retain jobs from 5 days ago). I happens from all sorts of programs.

My PC is acting a print server (ie, the printer is connected to my PC via Parallel and i have shared my install of this printer).

In the print queue, the status indicates "sent to printer" and Pages "x/x - eg 3/3" however the print jobs remains in the queue and do not disappear unless i manually do a "cancel". If i were to turn off and then on the PC, all these print jobs will print out again without any user interaction.

So, can anyone tell me if this is a driver issue or is it something to do with the printer or Parallel port configuration.

As far as i know, i've got "bi-directional support" selected but i'm still to find out what modes i've got parallel set to eg. EPP or ECP or both.

Any help would be great. thank you.

In Vista, one print job (the last) on a Lexmark will not delete from the queue. No new print jobs will print out. If there are more jobs created, they add up in the queue. I'm trying not to uninstall and reinstall, this has happened frequently with this printer, albeit with an inexperienced user. Please help. TIA

This is something that has been bugging me for a while now, and I've been unable to solve this problem. Perhaps someone out there can provide some guidance.

Sometimes, I'm unable to print things (such as online coupons) because I'm told that my printer is set to "Keep Printed Documents." I've tried disabling this setting via the Advanced tab under the printer's properties. However, when I do this, click Apply then OK, and close the tab, the setting automatically reverts back to "Keep Printed Documents". Does anyone know why this is happening? It's sort of frustrating to not be able to set the printer settings the way you choose.

I appreciate any tips/suggestions you might have. Thanks!

Other than dogging the print preview, and struggling with the size in any pertinent image editing software, has anyone found a reliable way to limit or control the size of a printed web document?
to wit:
I scanned an odd shaped document, 3x8" to email to myself at another site, and the printed form was big enough for two pages. What a waste.
I print receipts regularly and they, 99% of the time have a "trailer" on a last page that has stuff like web site address or URL, a Secure Website emblem, or other, clearly unnecessary printing. My introduction to Windows word processing (WordPerfect) had, and I still use, a "makeitfit" command. Invoking such a command AUTOMATICALLY when printing from the web seems like a simple, brainless way to conserve'll give me a fractional font (e.g. 11.9 vs. a 12) and would prevent the idiotic tendency of a printed page to only have the leftward 80%, l which leaves off the important stuff like the prices...(you gotta print landscape to avoid this)
And I thought a computer was to make life easier, boy was I ever misled)

A:printed size of web documents

The problem is that web pages are usually coded to make them look good on screen, and that tends to make them "unfriendly" when printing.

Web pages designed for printing do exist, and it works well in those (few) cases.

Cutting and pasting into a word processor is sometimes the only workable solution.

Anything I print off the web or email says "Network + Job Functions" at the top of the page and the date at the bottom. Sure, I've been to websites pertaining to the job functions but I never saved anything with that name. How can it be printing at the top of any page?
If I print a document that I made and saved from Wordpad, not anything from the net, it prints fine with no header. I looked at the printer settings dialog box and it shows nothing with this title.
Thanks, Jim

A:Printed documents show same heading

If you are using IE, at the top of the page click on file and page setup and see what you have under header and footer. You probably need to change those.

G'day steviejay, sounds like you have an intelligent printer that is censoring your output!
That is a worry, I haven't seen that problem previously.
You might try having a look in your control panel, system, devices or device manager, with a bit of luck when you scroll down through all your devices you will find a USB printer, (assuming yours is usb) if you open that item you should see something like "this devise is working properly" which is a good start for troubleshooting.
There should be no yellow exclamation marks on this item.
Are you quite sure your print queue in the print manager is being actually deleted?
What kind of printer is it?
The assumption is that it is a PC using a windows variant.
Cheers, qldit.

Ok, so I have an HP Deskjet 1000 printer. And I'm trying to print a Word document from my other computer, but it's not working. I checked the 'See what's printing' for that printer on the computer where I wanted to print from, and it shows a bunch of documents in queue. I tried to cancel or restart them, but nothing happens. I just get 'Error processing command'. I've already checked the C:\Windows\System32\Spool\PRINTERS, but there's nothing in it. I've already removed the printer and re-inserted it and it downloaded the drivers again. That all went well, but I still can't print from either computer (I have two). On the one computer where the printer is, if I try to print something, nothing happens, no documents in its queue. But from the other computer, it just keeps adding more documents to the queue and I can't do anything. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium on both of them.

Tried disabling printer pool and enabling it again, gone into windows32/spool/printing setting permissions for my user account that has admin permissions but given it full permissions for that folder.

Tried logging in as admin to remove them but I get access denied each time in the window bottom.

The port is blank for each document in the queue.

I usually don't have issues clearing documents from the menu but this time I have.

I let my sister use the pc and it was something she did that caused this but I don't know what. She won't remember either.

So how do I get rid of these documents? Resetting the pool service didn't reset the queue so what will?

I have an desktop running Window's XP connected to a router and my laptop running Vista is wirelessly connected to that.

I just had some trouble with a winsock error I guess. I figured that out but still can't print, which I could do at one point with the current set up, but something happened (maybe to do with the winsock stuff, maybe not--I haven't been able to print for some time).

I can send a document to the printer that is connected via a printserver from both my desktop and my laptop. It shows up in the cue, and then gets an error printing. I've tried several things without success. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I'm sure you'll need more info, which I will provide when asked for, as I'm not sure what info one would need.

Thanks in advance.

I should also mention that I can't access the settings to my print server (D-link), but that everything on my network seems to be running fine.

I have an Access database used on daily basis to enter and print the maintenance work order in a report format. I have assigned a command button to print the required record. On clicking the button in the Form, a parameter query will run asking the user to put the record number to proceed. Once the correct record number is entered in the parameter text box, the report is previewed and the user click on the print button to print the same.

My question is as follows:

Is there any method to find out the record i am going to print now was already printed before? A kind of record keeping for the printed records.

Also, a message box should warn the user saying incase if the record was already printed, ďThe record was previously printed, do you want to continue printing again?Ē

Please tell me a way to perform the above in my Form.

My client has got Windows XP SP3. He put a USB stick into his computer port, and it wouldn't recognise it, he tried again and again, but still no luck. However, another USB stick works. I guess the other one malfunctioned because his son (he uses it for schoolwork) didn't eject it properly one too many times!)
Hopwever, most of his My Dopcuments folder have gone missing, and can't be found anywhere. Fortunately, when I rebuilt his computer, after previous disk problems, I backed his info up.

I have a bunch of MPEG4 movies I need to transfer to a network hard drive from a Windows 10 machine. However, if I select them all and just do a cut/paste, Windows wants to send them all at once at that exact time which bogs down my network and takes forever since each movie is a few Gigs in size.

Does anyone know of any file transfer software (FTP client or anything else) that transfers the files in a queue fashion rather than trying to send all files at once? Also, it would be nice for the software to be able to 'schedule' the transfer so I can start it at midnight and let it run through the night so as to not interrupt my network during peak times.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have a HP C4850 configured to work through the wireless. I can ping the printer and access its internal web page. Network configuration prints out no fails or errors so as far as I can tell everything is configured correctly. If I send it a print job, a small notepad document with the text "test" in it, it won't print. Eventually it just seems to forget the print job is there. However if I send the job, then print the network device configuration, the print job will print immediately after. I did this 3 times and it was consistent in its behavior. A:Network print queue through local computer

So what you are saying is...

You have a Netware server with Q-based printing.
You had a Windows 9X box with a local printer attached to it.
The computer probably had printer sharing enabled on it and a static IP address.

I would think that if you setup file and printer sharing exactly the same way as the old box, everything should work for the Queue. Make the computer the same name as the old one and set the same ip address it had on it. Although you may not have to setup the static IP address. It has been way to long since I played with q-based printing. Probably 6 years.

Look at the print queue and see where it is pointing to.

Can anyone tell me if this is something that is known to be true? I was just wondering if it was something I needed to do..OK all you experts. Discuss this amongst yourselves. LOL

.... if anyone has Windows XP Home or Professional and has SP2 (Service Pack 2) the TCPIP.SYS file has limited your network queue to 10 connections no matter what other tweaks in other areas you have done. this will make a modem feel slower and broadband feel like a modem after a few minutes of multitasking. I found a fixer for this, AVG scanned by the one who supplied it to me and AVAST scanned by me. Applied to my XP Pro SP2 system, and wow! the difference it made in all my downloads and connections on the web. email me if you have need of this and I will zip it up (it is only 32KB to start with) and send it to you.

xpsp2tcpipfix.exe is the name of the file, it replaces the SP2 TCPIP.SYS file and ups the queue limit to 50

A:TCPIP.SYS file limits network queue

hi all

it would very much please me to hear your thoughts on what may help me with my current headache. i have just purchased a DLink DIR 600 router (wire-less). Before i bought the router i had setup my home pc (vista with netgear wire-less card) and my wife's laptop (XP- WiFi) as adhoc and shared my internet connection between the 2. Now that i have my router i would like to set up my router to run a small network. As you all would have probably guessed by now i'm no genius and abit tight on money.

after reading up on a few internet sites i still have not found a solution.

1. How do i share internet through my Dlink DIR 600 router?
2. i dont wanna mess with her laptop domain/workgroup settings as it's setup already for her network at work.
3. Do i setup my router to become an access point and just configure her wire-less connection to detect my vista ISC? if so what gateway address do i configure in the router GUI....? my vista ip address or the ip address of my 3g usb modem?

any of your valuable thoughts or opinions which you know could help me is very much appreciated.

Happy holidays! For me, it's turning into one big folly day: I stuffed around with my Billion router to get Windows Home Server to accept remote connections - and in the process cut off my wife's Vista Ultimate 64bit machine from the Internet...

Router is back to normal now, but try as I might, Vista Networking and Sharing Center stubbornly refuses to accept a private network IP that my router holds ready for it (in the range).

Instead, it allocates a private network address in the 169.x.x.x range and I simply can't force it to change this.

My wife was running Ubuntu 9.10 on her PC before, and networking under it was slightly difficult! But it was nothing compared to this arcane and all-over-the place networking 'system' that is Vista's...

Any pointers on how to muzzle this MS private network IP monster is welcome. How to stop it being a DHCP server would be a start...

Meanwhile merry Xmas to all!

On the computer that is getting the private self assigned network can you please verify that all network settings are correct for the adapter: Gateway, Subnet, IP, DNS (if applicable) etc... If that doesn't work, resort back to assign this adapter an IP automatically and post back with results

Hello tech support guys n' girls.

I've recently had to resort to using a USB mobile network modem stick to get my intertubes due to rural housing.

This is fine, other then one issue.

I would like to network my ps3/ other pcs through either one of my portswitches(or directly if i have to) into my pc using my ethernet port (USB modem stick runs off a 3G mobile phone network, so no phoneline).
The problem I'm having is transferring the internet from the USB modem network to the ethernet network on Windows 7.

I have scaled both networks for anything that would assist in this bridge, but windows 7 only seems to be able to bridge ethernet networks. Tried looking in my modem's booklets and there is nothing, also tried the software, but that was a dead end also. Thus I'm still stuck with a pretty useless PS3.

I believe I'm not too bad of a techy as I regularly host LANs, so I doubt I missed anything too obvious.

The connection between the ps3 and pc is working fine, filesharing included. Although - due to not having a non-local IP adress this connection appears as "Unidentified" and is stuck as a public network.

I've googled it, and everything just leads to usb A ports on phoneline modems, So I would be greatful for any help.

The following day, after turning on and off my computer I opened my internet browser and it didn't work. Nor did skype, spotify or steam. I did the windows troubleshooter and it mentioned that connection between me and my router was broken. So I pull out the power cables out of router and reset it. This temporarily solves my problem until I shut down my computer again. When I start it up I have to reset my router again for my internet to work.

Hello People

I've searched for hours now with google but I didn't find anything useful about either how a Trackpoint works or how one of these can be repaired.

I'm doing this because I want to get my old Compaq LTE5300 working neatly again. It's not as useful as a laptop rightnow because of a broken trackpoint and a broken battery. I've already found a tutorial how to get NiCd and NiMh Batteries working again. Going to try that tomorrow.
Well, there's another possibility for getting a TrackPoint to that old Compaq:
I've got a broken Toshiba with Trackpoint as well (Motherboard or Screen or both gone). That Trackpoint works well with the Compaq. Only problem is that I can't use the connectors to put that Trackpoint anywhere outside the case. Question: How do I prolong foil wrapped cables?

Maybe I'm writing a bit confused, but that's only because it's late here in CH.

We have a home wireless network of an older laptop which operates on XP and a newer laptop which operates on Vista and a recently acquired Netbook which operates on XP.
On the older Laptop - XP - the shared files on Netbook & the Vista Laptop are not showing in my network paces under the heading local network but instead are showing further down under the heading internet.
Does this mean my documents are available on the Internet as I don't want that to happen.
I presume it is something to do with Security & Sharing settings but I can't see what I have done differently on the older Laptop to cause the difference between where the files appear in my network place in the 2 XP computers

I don't know if I am drawing a wild conclusion or not but I will try to explain what is happening. I rent a room in a house (college student) and a new house-mate just moved in and he started by opening a "Shared Documents" folder on his computer so he could share some music and some class stuff (we have a Bio. class together). This may be conjuncture but it seems that the moment he started this folder on the Intranet (?) my connection has virtually disappeared. The only times it seems to go back to normal is in the afternoon and late at night (times when his computer are off: when he is at class or asleep). Is this unfounded guesswork or is there something to this? Just wondering and thanks for any helpful ideas or info you can share

A:Sharing Documents Within The Network Problems

Well, the Shared Documents folder is there by default, and it's on his computer, so that's hardly a problem.

What is the "Intranet" and what is your connection that "has virtually disappeared"?

Is it possible to edit various documents per say Word, Excel, etc. that are saved on one PC with in my home network from another win in the same home network? If so what would I need to do in order to accomplish this, or where could I find such information?

I have my Desktop in my den, where I do all my book keeping etc. And where I do all my research information for my hobbys. And plan my next moves..........

But out in my work shop I used my laptop quite regularly. And use the information I have gathered on my desktop. Though if I see anything that needs to be altered. The only way that can be done "currently" is by writing it down and changing the information later.

A:Edit Documents Via Home Network

You can if you have Office installed on both computers. It isn't possible to share programs over the network. You may be able to use OpenOffice to edit them on the other computer depending on the version of Office used to create them and the format they're saved in as well as the complexity of the files.

Im new to this forum so please bare with me, i have recently bought a laptop, it connects to my home network wirelessly, before when i had a pc i used to move my documents to an external hard drive incase the pc failed at me, that worked fine.

I have purchased a buffalo linkstation Live NAS and i have attached the USB WD external hard drive on the back of it as an extension, i can access the data fine.

So i went and changed the location of my documents folder from the start menu and re-directed it to the network drive and its location, that was no problem, but when i restarted i clicked on it, nothing came up, so i went on its properties , no tabs where there, all i got was the general tab and 0 bytes as data and size on disk.

I went on the registry and tried changing the location back to how it was before so to the default location and it didn't change.

If i go through the C drive i can view the documents but not the ones on my external drive the ones that were there with the laptop so prretty much nothing.

Please help me, i wudnt mind connectng the usb directly to th laptop, but i cant carry it arround with me and it needs a power plug anyhow.

this is the location that my documents is on the network.

Your files won't be avalible from the Internet unless you have setup a website or FTP from your computer which I guess you won't have. To access your shared files go on the "Network" menu and in the address bar type "\\COMPUTER-NAME\SHARE-FOLDER\", obviousely edit the details to fit your network.

I am just starting out learning Windows 7. I am reading an ebook by Mclean and Thomas titled ?Configuring Windows 7?

In chapter 1 regarding installing Windows 7 using a USB source, the procedure to prepare the USB device is as follows:

1. Connect the USB storage device to a computer running Windows 7 or Windows Vista.
Ensure that the storage device has no data stored on it that you want to keep (or that
you have moved such data to another storage device) because this procedure removes
all existing data.
2. Open an elevated command prompt and type diskpart.
3. At the DISKPART> prompt, type list disk. Identify which disk connected to the
represents the USB storage device.
4. At the DISKPART> prompt, type select disk X where X is the number of the disk that
you have identified as the USB storage device.
5. At the DISKPART> prompt, type clean. When the disk is clean, type create partition
6. At the DISKPART> prompt, type format fs=fat32 quick. When the format is completed
type active and then exit.
7. After you have completed these steps, copy all the files located on the Windows 7
installation DVD to the USB storage device.
8. Configure the BIOS computer on which you want to install Windows 7 to boot from
the USB storage device. Attach the USB storage device and then reboot the computer
to start installation.

This might well be an old issue but have just joined (tonight in Australia). After some problems with various malware and a fake antivirus8 program, I downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a scan with some success. My question does not concern malware as such (yet:). When scanning, MBAV ploughs through some 30,000 temp i/net files supposedly in C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\NETWORK SERVICE\local settings\temporary internet files\contentIE5\etc. How can I rid myself of these files? They are obvoiusly invisible to Win Explorer and also to CCleaner yet plainly obvious to MBAV which does not offer to delete them however.
Any number of references to this on google but precious few answers, most sites come with yet more malware etc and not much else, hence my question. Any ideas please?

A:Documents and Settings\Network Service\Local...

The local settings folder is a hidden folder. If you want to see it, open 'my computer' goto 'tools' then 'folder options' then 'view' then check the 'show hidden files and folders' and press apply.

To easily clean theses files you can use 'ccleaner';1

Be careful not to install the toolbar, and it is also NOT recommeded to use the registry cleaning tool in the program.

I know that by default these icons -normally- appear on your desktop simply by selected the classic start menu, but now they don't anymore for some reason. In fact when I select classic start menu now, the icons will disappear if I have them on my desktop.

And I've tried right-clicking them from the start menu, but there isn't the 'show on desktop' option that's there with the XP start menu. ( which I believe was originally only there for classic ) I also tried dragging and dropping, but that doesn't quite work either. Well, it does actually, but not really the way I want it to. Like for example, I tried dragging and dropping the My Documents folder, but it only created a shortcut to my documents folder.

Is there anything I can do? Because I prefer the classic start menu, and I also like having those three icons on my desktop.

I have a client running Win XP. They are on a domain running Server 2008 with a few mapped network drives to their data.

Specifically there is one mapped drive which is the User's data folders with everyday running docs, more specifically running MS Excel '97 and Word '97 (yeah I know...time for an upgrade hey? I know...). My problem with only one of the users is that he is able to open the documents on the mapped drive, specifically with .wbk files (the Word Backups), and even allowed to make changes to the files, and even save it. But as soon as he wants to "save as" the file to give it a different name, then Word crashes, the whole system hangs. Not able to get any other response out of it than opening up Task Manager, but even when I try to run some commands from it or end certain task, itself crashes too.

I have no idea what could be going on. Well, I was informed that the system had a virus on a couple of weeks ago, but I have been given no details thereof as I think the person is trying to hide what damaged he has caused by "fixing" some problems found.

This is what I have done so far:

1.) I have done "sfc /scannow"
2.) Malwarebytes scan (find log attached)
3.) HiJackThis (find log attached)

Please tell me if there's anything more you need.

I have also noticed that when I right-click the network drive there are some invalid characters on the right-click menu that start with ?? (eg: ??2, ???3, ????4).

I have norton antivirus 2008 installed, I have my explorer set to view hidden files and folders and dispay hiddon operating system files and performed a full scan which results in nothing being found. According the the antivirus software I have a clean system. I'm stuck, does anyone out there have any ideas what is going on and how to resolve it?

I'm troubleshooting a problem on a laptop running Vista Business 32-bit w/SP2 and all windows updates installed.

The problem is that for some reason, when trying to save a document from Office 2007 applications to the user's home network share, it always fails.
After checking permissions and ownership (user has full control of AND ownership of the directory in question), and trying a few things I verified that as follows:

* Creating new files/folders on share
* Editing an an existing file (including newly created "New..." files) with any non-Office application
* Deleting files/folders

Does not work:
* Renaming any file/folder (including but not limited to newly created "New..." files) - both in Explorer and the commandline
* Saving any document using an Office application - this results in an error message, and leaves a 0 byte file with the specified name

Googling around a bit, I found several other reports of similar problems, and many suggested solutions, but unfortunately, none that work.

So far I have tried:
* Formatting the Offline Files cache (by putting the FormatDatabase value in registry)
* Disabling Offline Files
* Disabling, and even uninstalling the antivirus (Trend OfficeScan)
* Installing this hotfix from Microsoft:

... without luck. The problem persists.

Anyone have any suggestions what else could be causing this?

My small office (six people) upgraded to Windows 10 about four months ago, when one user was tricked into the upgrade, and the rest of us followed suit so we'd all be using the same OS. We all have Dell Optiplex 980 desktops that were purchased about five years ago. Four out of six are connected to a software server installed about nine months ago; we all connect to the internet through a switch.

Since the Windows 10 upgrade we've had nothing but headaches with our network. We have two basic issues that I have been unable to resolve:1) Most of us cannot access each other's desktop printers, although we can all access the one printer that's networked directly through the switch. For the most part the printers are not appearing "on the server".
2) Most of us cannot access each other's documents, although there are two computers that use a very old (pre-Y2K) utility software, and those folders can be accessed by all users!
Also, not a problem but more of a symptom, is that when looking in CP Devices & Printers, only two computers show up under the Multimedia Devices area, when all six computers should be there.

I can guess there may be a group policy setting that's out of whack, but I don't know how to modify group policy or how to troubleshoot it.

I have reviewed this thread Latest networking issue caused by KB3189866 and KB3185614 and find that only two of us have one of the KBs installed (KB3189866), with no apparent connection noted between its pres... Read more

I have several domain computers across two locations that have started displaying strange behavior in Windows Explorer.  The computers in question are Windows 7 computers that were recently added to the domain.  Usrs are now complaining that when
they click on their mapped user drives or their department group drive and try to navigate to a folder or file, the view suddenly bounces back to either the My Documents folder or the My Computer view.  The user drives and group network drives
are located on different servers, so I'm pretty sure that the issue is not a server problem.

To solve the problem, the users generally reboot the computer and Windows Explorer will behave fine at least until a later point in the day or the following day when the problem starts all over.
I have checked for IP address and DNS conflicts, but have not seen anything so far.

Hi All,

I'm having some Windows-related networking issues and am hoping that there is someone out there who can help me clear things up:

The scenario is:

1. I have a Synology Cube Station CS-407 Network Attached Storage on my home network.
2. I have a Windows Vista Laptop (mine) and a Windows XP Pro SP2 laptop (My Wife's).
3. Both laptops have a mapped network drive, let's call it "U:", which maps onto a network share exposed from the NAS.
4. The network drives are configured to "connect as a different user" in order to log into the NAS with the proper credentials.
5. The network drives are set to "reconnect at logon".
6. On both laptops, drive U: is set to be available offline, usng offline files/folders.
7. The Documents/My Documents folders on each laptop have been re-directed to drive U: using (My) Documenst->Properties->Location->Move...

While this appears to be a reasonable configuration, I've experienced the following problems:

1. On the Vista Laptop I'm getting the "Error 1327. Invlid Drive Letter U:." error with some installers (Adobe Acrobat Reader, HP Update, etc.)
2. On the XP laptop, after re-directing the "My Documents" folder to drive U:, system performance slows to a crawl. Returning the "My Documents" folder to it's original location alleviates the problem.

A:Re-directing Documents to Network Drive casues 1327 Installer Errors

Hi Dave. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!

I've dealt with somewhat similar errors before - but not one involving a network drive. Regardless of that, let's see what we can do here.

First, I'd like to take a look at the contents of a registry key.

Bring up an ELEVATED command prompt START | type cmd.exe | right-click on cmd.exe up top | select Run as Administrator | answer the UAC prompt - Continue/enter Admin password

Now... copy and paste the following into the "DOS" command prompt box - EXACTLY as it appears -

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders" > C:\error1327a.txt & start notepad c:\error1327a.txt

If you have problems with the paste using ctrl-v, then right-click on the top of the "DOS" command prompt box then select "Edit" then select paste.

Either way, a notepad should appear with the registry key contents inside it - if unfamiliar to you, you will see "%" signs and recognizable folder names as well as letter/numbers mixed together. This is OK. Then copy all and paste results in your next post and I'll take a look.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

I send about 100 faxes, one day a month..I was once able to create the document in Word, 'send to' 'fax recipient', and put as many names from my Office Outlook address book into the send to line as I chose, and Fax would just dial them in order.

I now try to insert say 10 recipients--and the fax doesn't start sending..I check the outbox, and two or three of the recipients are queued (never the first recipient I inserted), and the fax will sit happily for five or ten minutes, then start sending to those in the queue.

If I start over with just one recipient, when I hit finish, the fax starts sending--the faxes waiting in the queue first, as if the new one kicked the others awake.

I uninstalled Norton Internet Security, and that worked...for one fax, then back to the same.

Any suggestions?

The problem I am having is that when I go to print tax return forms from the IRS site or New York Tax Dept site, the form prints "short", that is, the last four or five lines of each page do not print.

You cannot save the data in these forms, they will only save as a blank form. Your only option is to print it.

However, although Adobe tells how to cure this problem ( by clicking File-Print and going down the menu which comes up to "printer scaling", then chosing "print to fit page", this only works if there is a
FILE menu on the left hand side of the page.

In these tax sites, the forms do not have a tool bar above allowing you to chose a FILE menu.
You can right click the mouse and chose PRINT, however it will print a cut off page.

SOOOOOOO do I either:
1. Get a standard Tool Bar to appear on top of the form, on these web site pages, or
2. use some other device or method to print these documents to fit the page.

If any of you are about to suggest right clicking on the printer icon PRINTERS, in the control panel, forget printer does not bring up anything about "Print Scaling".

Hopefully, some geek out there will read this and solve my problem. Thank you. 44 Guy

I'm not sure where Adobe figures into tax preparation.

If you are using a 3d-party app to do taxes...then the problem resides with the support for that application, IMO.

First I would like to say I'm a TBI survivor and I'm a male and 42 years old .
I was purchased an emachine computer with a Lexmark lasar printer,
Whenever I go to print something, be it a web site article or a personal document that was created using Microsoft Works Word Processor. Whatever is being printed my name appears at the VERY top and the city and state printed at the bottom.
I know little about computers so I'm trying to get an answer why this is being printed.
The only thing that I can come up with is MY NAME, CITY and STATE was somehow entered on this computer's Hard drive and is prints it because it's been entered by someone at the store before iyt was brought home and set up for me.

If there is someway that I can delete this info. being printed, PLESE tell me what to do EXACTLY!

Thank You!

A:I'm new her! Why is my name, town and state being printed?

That's very strange, it sounds like a 'Header and Footer' has been set up with that info and is in your template. (If Works uses such a template, I know Word does).
Try doing a Find (or Search depending on your version of Windows) for and rename any found to normal.old. Then test the printing again. If there is a problem you change the names back again.

A:your picture can not be printed because of this error

From Windows Answers:

I believe it is a problem with the "photowiz.dll" file in system32. It is version 6.x.xxxx.xxxx. I found an older version of this file, had to change the attributes and permissions of the file to allow it to be changed. I renamed it with an "dlx" extension and then copied a version 5.1 photowiz.dll to system32 and the print wizard works again! The site I got the file from is:

Don't print much multi page output, so am NOT sure when this problem began.

Originally, the pages on my HP DJ855C were printed as expected: page-1 first, then page-2, etc; this resulted with page-1 being on the bottom of the stack. Depending on the application being used, there was often a Print-Order option available for Back-to-Front printing so that the last page would be printed first and then page-1 would be printed last and be on the top in the stacker.

NOW, things seem to have reversed:
If I do NOT ask for the Back-to-Front, then I seem to get it anyway (i.e., page-1 last and on the top). but if I want the original order (i.e., page-1 first and on the bottom) then I must use the Back-to-Front option.
It seems as though the default has become Back-to-Front and then selecting the option for Back-to-Front re-reverses the order and the result is Front-to-Back.

Possibly this reversal happened when I went to Win/XP; possibly it happened with the installation of some piece of software.

Q. Has anyone else had this exxperience?

Please tell me where I might change some parameter to make the option of Front-to-Back actually print the page-1 first like it did originally?

Any advice apprecaited.

A:Order of Pages Printed

Go into your printers and faxes options off of your start menu.

Select your printer, right click the mouse and click on printing preferences.
On the features tab at the bottom there is a option for start printing from last page. If there is a check mark in the box next to it, click there with the mouse and uncheck it and then click on apply and ok and you should be all set after that?

I was wondering if there is a website or program that I could use to queue up web videos?
As in one ends the next one begins automatically.
Basically a youtube-like queue service but instead for other websites like NASCAR and Yahoo.

If there is not a website or program that can do this.
Would it be possible to script it in a program like AutoIT?

Please suggest me !!!!!!!

I have developed a dll in VC++ 6.0. It has two threads. One thread puts the messages( in the form of strings) in to the queue. Another thread will read the message from the front of the queue. Application using this dll creates a queue in the local machine. This queue is persistent. One more application running in different machine should be able to access this queue and add the message. Later application should not use any socket communication for adding the message in to the romote queue. It will use ADO component for adding the messages in to the queue. Please tell me which is the best queuing mechanism. One answer is Advanced queue of ORACLE. It has some limitations. so please suggest me any other queueing mechanism.

thank u

I have a problem with my Word documents. When I try to print them, the right edge is cut off. I thought it was my computer or my printer, so I took it to another computer, and the same thing happened.

The problem is in the files themselves. How do I change the files so they function as they used to? This has been the case with more than 20 files, which were made at different times.

My computer used to warn that the form I was using was too wide, and ask did I want to go ahead. I would select yes, it would print, and would look just fine. Now it does not ask that question.

Incidentally, another problem is that my files no longer end with .doc, but now say .rtf. All of my Word files changed in several ways at once.

Fill color isn't displayed during normal viewing of a worksheet. When the worksheet is printed or print-previewed, the colors are visible.

Re-installed Excel, problem persists.

A:Excel XP - Can't see fill colors until printed

Go to your control panel and double click on Accessibility Options.
Click on the Display tabsheet and uncheck "Use High Contrast" then press OK to close that window. You should now be able to see color in your view mode.

I have an Access database used on daily basis to print maintenance work order. Each work order is assigned with an auto field No. I have a commend button assigned to print each record in a report format. On clicking command button, i enter the record number to be printed and it previews the report and check for accuracy of data entered. Once checked, i click on the print icon to print the same.

My question is, is there any method to find out the record i am going to print now is already printed before? A kind of record keeping of the printed records. Also, the same method shall help me to find out how many times each record is printed?

Run the following:

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system (32 bit or 64 bit). If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

I have had my problem for some time and had a work around which is no longer applicable hence I get a white screen where message should be so I don't know what is being said.

My problem started about 6 or 8 months ago on Outlook Express. At that time I was using dial up and changed over to with their e mail program Total Access. My problem immediately disappeared. One month ago I switched over to High Speed and the person doing the custom install saw I used Outlook Express so he reenergized (non computer word) the program. The custom installer saw my INBOX with about 30+ messages that go back a long way. EACH ONE LINE description was complete, meaning To: xxx,
From: YYY, Subject: ZZZ, and anything else that showns on the ONE LINE.

When I double click on one of the inbox messages I FIND MY PROBLEM! Everything that showed before is shown again, but now greyed out since it has to do with basics. HOWEVER, the text area (where the message should be) is 100% pure white. I have double clicked all 30+ messages and get the same thing,...a pure white screen.

I thought it might have something to do with installing SP-2 on my XP Home Edition BUT SP-2 was installed about 6 months ago and my e mail problem started about 8 months ago.
That is my problem! Can anyone offer suggestions?

A:No Outlook Express Messages Are Printed

Hi George-2

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

So if I understand correctly, you can send and receive emails ok.

The problem lies in that the messages you receive are blank inside?

If you run your mouse over the inside of the message, does anything show up in the highlighted/selected area?

Perhaps your fonts have a white color?

Are you able to create a new message and see the fonts inside?

Let us know.

I've spent the last four hours trying to solve this/use info that's similar to my problem to no avail. I feel I'm so close I can smell the answer is near!

I have a form I use for work that I manually have to fill in 50 times a day with mostly the same information. This is definitely a job for a computer!

Ideally, I would like to open the spreadsheet and have a button that says 'Print' and it will print what I need - 50 forms with the right information.

So far I have done the following:

Created a custom page size (16cm x 14.7cm)
Scanned an original to use as a background so I can line up the information
Adjusted the Excel boxes to print the info in the right place.

Now I need to print the following number ranges as identifiers:

1 - 22, 29-42 and 51-54

I feel I'm close with using this macro:

Private Sub Workbook_BeforePrint(Cancel As Boolean)
[copy] = [copy] + 1
End Sub

I use both Excel 2003 and 2007, depending on where I am!

I have NO experience of macros until today, so any advice is very welcome.
