Last night I updated windows 8.1 from windows 8.
It got to the stage where it needs to restart so it done that started the configarations and once it reached 100% it restarted.

Since then what happens is when i press power on the samsung logo comes on the screen then the black screen with the windows picture then the bsod comes up for around half a second and it restarts. then it constantly does this.

The whole cycle only takes a few seconds.

Ive tried booting in safe mode but this isnt working so I downloaded kav rescue on another computer and saved it on a flash drive, But it wont boot off this either.

Any ideas?

A:Windows wont start after 8.1 update wont boot in safe mode

What does the BSOD state? Most times it is a driver issue with the Display drivers. Other times it is hardware.

The problem is that windows freezes on a blank screen after the Loading windows screen. There were about 10 viruses on the computer, they have since been removed remotely. They included trojans, spyware and adware, and also [email protected] However the computer can still only be booted in safe mode.

here is a log. (from safe mode)

Around a week ago as I closed the computer down one evening, there was a MS update running, I allowed the update and the computer shut down.
The next morning my laptop would not start up. It would load to the password login screen and no further. I was able to go into safe mode and run system restore and this would then allow me to use the computer as normal, I was not able to use a recent restore point though. On rebooting I would be faced with the same problem.
I have updated all my security programs in safe mode with networking and run them but so far they have found nothing.
I have used Microsoft Security Essentials
Malwarebytes (the database was corrupted and was downloaded again)
WinPatrol has not notified me of any suspicious activity

in addition I have run a couple of online scans (I forget which ones)
I have run start up repair but apparently this has not fixed my problem. I am using online armour as a firewall. I am not convinced that I have any virus and my security is pretty comprehensive but I am at a loss to what to try next and would appreciate some help if possible.

A:Windows 7 wont start up without using safe mode

Following another Microsoft update this appears to be resolved now.

I know a bit about computers but i ain't the best an ain't bragging.
But i know a problem when i have one.
I wanted to get into safe mode in windows but cant.
I press f8 then select my operating system then the drivers start to load windows in safe mode.

The problem i get is it hangs on one driver, so I'm thinking this driver could be missing or is corrupt.
I have run chkdsk an have use the options to fix all errors but windows still wont start in safe mode.

I checked for Virus and Spy-ware but still no joy.
Also if this driver is missing or corrupt i cant replace it because i cant get into safe mode.

I have also tried the sfc /scannow in cmd but keep getting the message please insert windows xp disk in CD drive D:
The disk is in there i put it in ???? ????

Also don't ask me to do a restore as i have no restore points to go back to as i cleaned up the comp a few days ago.

Any suggestions as to whats going on??

Thanks in advanced

Hello All,
I am running Windows 7 RTM on a 1.75Ghz, 3Gb RAM box. Windows 7 was working fine for me, but this morning i just restarted because i thought it was acting slow. It had a proper shut down(I use verbose mode..)But then it never restarted. It just showed the HP logo and stopped.. I am even unable to get into the safe mode box(by pressing F8). I have a windows Xp bootable CD right now... and that doesnt boot either (Yes, I have ensured the booting order is correct.) What could be the cause?
Is it a hardware failure - As in harddisk crash? Because the computer just sits idle!! Strangely, I went to BIOS and did a disk diagnostic test which it passed.. But the harddisk LED didnt blink during the test(It should blink right?)... Please help me, i am really stuck here...

A:Windows 7 wont start.. unable to get to safe mode even!

Some kind of bios setting. Check to see the plug and play os is set to yes. If that's not the cause, use "standard optimized default" as the global bios setting and see how it carries on.

Can't hurt to actually update the bios from the motherboard manufacturer's website too.

I have a windows 7 notebook that won't load into windows or load safe mode successfully its ends with a black screen and hangs forever. System restore wont even fix it. What command can I use to troubleshoot this other than reinstalling windows. Thanks

A:windows 7 wont start up or load safe mode successfully

If you have an install disk and can access Setup (possibly tapping F2 as you switch on) to change the Boot order to CD/DVD before the HDD, then insert the disk - Save and Exit, it will then reboot up with it and you will be prompted to press any key to boot from CD/DVD.

Select the Repair option and then Startup Repair in the Recovery Environment.

It will give you the option to select a restore point which you can opt for or pass on that and let it complete the Startup Repair.

If it reports that it was unable to repair, then you could give the restore point a try.

I am writing from my own laptop, but the problem I am having is with another laptop. It is a Sony Vaio running Windows Vista.I am getting an error message when trying to turn it on--Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:1. Insert you Windows installation disc and restart your computer.2. Choose language settings, click next3. Click "repair your computer"If you do not have the disc (of course, I don't!) contact your system admin or computer manufacturer for assistance.File: \Windows\system32\config\systemStatus: 0xc000014cInfo: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt.

A:Windows VISTA: Failed to start...won't start in safe mode, or any other mode!

Typically the system32 Files I would simply replace and expect to get back in to Windows, but with The Registry file being purported as Damaged or missing I would recommend re-installing windows. You can get restore CD's from your manufacturer.

If you tap the F8 key on boot and get options to boot into other modes, I would pick Last known good configuration as you might fix the problem this way.
Not likely, but it's worth a shot.
Good Luck

If I try to Start Windows Normally, or use last settings that worked, it seems to start loading, and then restarts.

Today I noticed that I could not open my start menu with neither the windows button, ctrl + esc, or a click of the mouse. I've also had a problem the last couple of days saving/opening files in one of the programs I used to make music. I tried to go into safe mode to do system restore, but the safe mode didn't boot. It scrolled all the system files on the screen but then just stopped and nothing happened.

So, I tried the other option (forget what it's called) that lets you perform various other system restoration tasks. I brought up the system restore screen from there, but got an error that said something about corrupt files so it could not perform the restore. I checked again, and all my restore points had been deleted.

Lastly, when I click computer, all the drives are blank with no names beside them, only the icons. I can still click them and they seem to be functioning normally, so I don't know if there is a relation to this. I don't know if some registry files were deleted or if there is some other problem. I didn't notice the start menu/safe mode/blank icon issues until I just recently installed the latest windows update.

Sorry if this seemed a little long winded, but I would appreciate help from anyone.

I have a Sony Viao VGC-RA840G Windows XP Media Center Eddition. it was working fine all this time 2 yrs, till after a power outage, today. I try to start it, get to a screen where these option are given;
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)

Start Windows Normally

But none is working. It restarts but keeps going to this same screen with these options.

i dont have a a-drive to use a boot disk. I dont have the cd cause this was of the shelve purchase. I can use F2 to get to the BIOS screen or F8 for startup options or f10 which will take me through a full systems restore to factory defaults but will erase all personal files, which defeats the whole purpose. I have tons of photos of my 15 month old boy on there which potentially will all be lost. Is there a way that i can restore windows only w/o having to do a complete restore. I spoke to the tech chat support at sony and they say the only solution is to do a full system recovery and i should work with a 3rd party (that they keep pushing - called drivesavers- to have a back up made and do a data recovery excercise) Is this truly the only solution or are there possibly other ways to accomplish this?

Any suggestions would be helpful THANKS in advance

Hello, and thanks in advance I have recieved a lot of help in this forum in the past. Last night my pc started running at 100%cpu and I unchecked a few things about searching from the start menu. They said it would stop casuing the exploerrer.exe to run at 100%. Then last night it kept crashing, but I was able to start it in safe mode. I did the system check today after work but now it asks how I want it started i have chosen all the options. It looks like its about to start then it goes to a gray screen and stops there. I know a lot has been posted about this. Is all hope lost? Of course I have files that I should have backed up ages ago... Thank you and I know you guys are busy.

I guess you're tapping the F8 key after you press the power button?
Some PC's will work tapping the F5 key.
Mine works using either one.

How to start Windows in Safe Mode

To use the System Configuration Utility method

1. Close all open programs.
2. Click Start, Run and type MSCONFIG in the box and click OK.
3. The System Configuration Utility appears, On the BOOT.INI tab,
Check the "/SAFEBOOT" option, and then click OK
4. Restart your computer when prompted.
5. The computer restarts in Safe mode.
6. Perform the troubleshooting steps for which you are using Safe Mode.
7. When you are finished with troubleshooting in Safe mode,
open MSCONFIG again, on the BOOT.INI tab, uncheck "/SAFEBOOT"
and click OK to restart your computer

There have been no hardware changes, although I have recently installed Malware bytes' anti-malware and SDfix. Instructed to do a system restore restart.
Now the laptop wont start up windows. It scrolls back to black screen safe mode restart. Safe mode doesnt work nor any of the start up options. Theres a flash of a blue instruction screen but that wont show up. Done the F8 key trick etc.
Other problem is the Win XP software was preloaded, no rescue disc.

Hello there and welcome to BleepingComputer. My name is Charles and I will be dealing with your log today. From your log it appears that you are missing one important program: an antivirus. This is somewhat suicidal in today's digital world. Without one you are at a high-risk of reinfection; while I can try to sort your problem out, if you have no protection, the infections will keep resurfacing. Here are some great free antivirus programs:Antivir, Avast!, AVG, Bitdefender FreeInstall one of these, then run a full scan, letting it quarantine/delete anything it finds. Let me know if there is anything that it reports but can not remove.I have also noticed that you do not appear to have a firewall installed. This is an essential piece of software that acts as an extra layer of security, which restricts access to your computer from the outside world. Therefore, please download one of these free firewalls:Zone AlarmKerioIf you would like some more information about firewalls and how to use them effectively, take a look here. Try pressing the F5 key down as soon as you turn on the computer. Hold it down until you hear a beep, a startup menu (a list of the computer?s various startup options) appears on-screen, or Safe Mode loads. You can press the F5 key to access Safe Mode directly in all Windows versions.

This started out as somthing i thought i could handel. Not long after startup the system shuts down and says it was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM. "Windows must now be restarted because the DCOM Server Process Launcher service terminated unexpectedly." I thought i would be able to get rid of this by installing adaware and removing it that way. (I have no antivirus installed on the computer, i know im stupid, im sorry, please dont turn this into a 'your an idiot' thread ) so i downloaded adaware on another computer, burned it to a disk, (because the internet didnt work anymore on the infected computer) and figured i could install it. Well that didnt work. It would not let me install, i got about half way and it gave me an error. I attempted to start it in safe mode, and it just froze. a couple tries of that left me in a worse spot than i was. I did also try restoring it to a previous point, but it wouldnt let me click the next button....that weirded me out. Now the computer wont start, it keeps giving me a blue screen. then restarts itself. I hope i gave enough information and i hope someone can help me. Thank you for any help!

When you reinstalled xp, did you do a clean install? Or just reinstalled over it? I suggest formatting and doing a clean install. If it still doesn't work, it could possibly mean that the hard drive is going bad. Find out your hard drive brand, download their diagnostic tool and do a scan. Good luck.

I need the internet connection at home so i tried going into safe mode with networking (i think that gives a net connection but maybe it emans something else)
i have ran spy bot s&d and deleted everything, also 2 other programmes + ms anti sypware new beta
thinking it was a virus but it cant be.

i tried a lot of the options you get in F8 but only the normal safe mode seems to work. i cant do a system restore as i deleted them yesterday as they were like a few gigs of stuff on it and i cant seem to find my xp cd so i cant reinstall windows, at least for 4 weeks as ican get a copy when i get home.

Any ideas what to do?

even if it just get me an internet connection in safe mode as thats all i need really.

Also its win xp

On Friday when booting windows failed to start and went into auto-repair. It did start then and again the next day. However this morning it failed again and the auto-repair was not able to resolve the issue, including when I told it to do a system restore.

I have tried to start windows in safe mode but rather than booting and the list of windows files is done I get a blue screen for 1 second and am back at the windows failed to launch screen (repair windows or start normally options). On two occasions while tapping f8 to get into safe mode while the screen was displaying "boot from cd/dvd" an error message came up stating that there was a disk read error.

A:Windows won't start, also won't start in safe mode.

It sounds like it's possible the hard disk has developed a problem. I'd suggest going to the manuf's website and downloading their tool for checking that specific model drive. Hopefully they will have an ISO that can be burned to CD or USB stick and you can boot into the tool and have it check the drive.

To boot from a CD or USB stick this option must be enabled in the BIOS... and sometimes the advanced boot screen that allows one to choose to boot from an alternate device has to be enabled before it can be accessed during boot (usually by tapping F12, but it can be different for different machines). So you might have to boot into the BIOS to enable these things before it will boot from a CD or USB stick.

But maybe someone else has another preliminary, easier option to try first. But a read error sounds indicative of a HD problem.

#1 Hi, basically this probem arose from nowhere. I came back from holiday 6 days ago and my pc took longer than i remember to boot. Only till i realised the next day and day after it was getting longer and some times not loading past the 'Windows' screen. Each time when it hasn't loaded fully, I turn it off and re-boot pressing F8 to get up safe mode, which doesn't work at all.
It gets stuck on '/avgdiseh' doesn't load past and will stay like that till turned off. Start up repair does absolutely nothing, it asks to do System restore which then errors and reboots, if i press cancel it stays on the 'Scanning' screen for hours.. (8 hours today)

#2 I've now seemed to run into another problem trying to boot from my CD drive. First time I loaded everything correctly got to 'install windows' screen clicked start up repair which did nothing. Ever since that windows won't detect my CD drive even though it opens and did read CD's.(watched a film on it the other day)

I've looked online and other people have had the same problems and clearly i haven't found a solution yet. I've tried cleaning the inside of my case, double checking connections, changing boot options. From what i've read its either a failed HDD, failed RAM (, or failed CD drive in the case of my second dilemma)

I'm just curious as to whether anyone can pin point what the problem is. If its an easy fix or whether it is possibl... Read more

Like the title says, my computer is stuck on a black screen. I downloaded an update and was instructed to restart the computer. After restarting the computer it went to a black screen. It won't do anything past that. I've tried starting it in safe mode but always with the same result. I have no idea what to do with this short of taking it to Best Buy to have the geek squad take a look at it and frankly I don't feel like doing that. If anyone knows how to fix this or has any suggestions, I'm open to anything. Please help.

A:Computer stuck on black screen - wont start in safe mode

Have you tried selecting Last Known Good Configuration from the Safe Mode menu? It sometimes works. Also, if you put in your W7 DVD and select Repair rather than Install after making the language choice, StartUp repair might help and if it does not, try System Restore.

Everytime i try to restart my computer in safe mode it runs the drivers than goes to a black screen and immidatly restarts. it starts up normally but right away Wiondow police pro comes up and prevents anything else from starting up. i need to boot up in safe mode to get rid of it but i cant and i dont have any disc to repair. any suggestions?

A:Computer wont start in safe mode so i can remove a virus and i have no disc.

I had a similar problem once. What I ended up doing was finding the program in the task manager, and ending the task (which promptly restarted). By doing this I knew what to look for on the hard drive. Then I went to that files directory on the hard drive and tried to delete it. I couldn't of course because it was running. See where I'm going with this? I then ended the task and deleted the file before it was able to restart, and not on the first try mind you. Hope this helps.

I thought I figured it out , but it kept bringing me to the start normally ,,, safe mode ... safe mode with networking screen after 15 seconds of black screen , witch is the reason I thought it was working because generally when I boot other computers the screen goes black with the small flashing thing in the corner for a few seconds then starts booting windows , but this one brought me to that menu then froze ...

Hey guyz,

I am really in a great trouble. I wonder if some one could help me out with this issue.
My os details: Windows XP service pack 2.

My machine is unable to start normally. It always shows me the black screen with mouse pointer on it.
When I restart my machine it shows me the options to start my windows in:
Safe mode
Normal mode
last known good configuration

I am only able to start my windows If I select 'last known good configuration'. With the rest two I again go back to black screen.
I really cant continue my work like this any more.

Can any one give me a good solution for this?

A:Unable to start windows XP either in safe mode nor in normal mode

What is the brand and model of your computer, or motherboard, and what sort of Windows operating system disk you you have... OEM, Dell, Gateway, HP, or other recovery disk?
And how old is your system?
You either have a bad infestation, or a defective hard drive, video graphics, or memory module.
We can perhaps help more when we know what you have available.

All my MS Office 2013 programs crashed tonight and I'm trying to figure out what happened. I'm following the instructions here:

This is the section I'm trying to follow:

Starting the application in Safe Mode is a great way to find out if the problem is caused by and add-in. To do this, go to your Start screen in Windows 8 or click Start > Run in Windows 7, and type one of the following commands:

Type excel /safe and press Enter to start Excel 2013. Type outlook /safe and press Enter to start Outlook 2013.
Type winword /safe and press Enter to start Word 2013.
I'm at the start screen and the only place to type anything is in the search box. Is this correct? Because when I type outlook/safe here, it just brings up articles about opening Outlook in safe mode. Isn't it supposed to launch Outlook? What am I doing wrong?

This may be the wrong place to say this, but I HATE windows 8. Sorry.

A:How to start programs in safe mode from the start screen?

Well that worked for me, make sure you get the spacing's on the forward slash correct. The top sections was Program start excel safe mode. I clicked it and excel opened in safe mode? I don't think this has anything to do with windows 8.1 seem the method was the same in windows 7
I'm no Office expert but it sounds like you have some seriously damaged files in Office, you could try a repair install perhaps that would fix them for you.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on Dell XPS 8100 with Intel Core i5, [email protected] GHz, 8Gb RAM, worked flawlessly out of the box in April (for five months). For a few weeks, powering off had produced "Installing Windows Updates, 1 (etc) of 8" - each and every time. Two days ago, power on results in normal system start until Windows Log In screen, which lasts about 2 seconds; then monitor displays all sorts of pretty colors. Left alone, the system restarts and ends in Black Screen with Start options; Start in Safe Mode works fine. System Restore works fine. But, removing power and starting again (cold) repeats above performance. Have attached zip file of Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2; but could not figure out how to include a Performance Monitor Report (no User Defined, or System reports shown).

After encountering a couple virus, I was suggested to sue ComboFix and after the program took control of my system, it had to restart and when it did, it wouldn't let me back into Windows.

I'm using a cracked copy of Windows XP and there is information in the computer that I don't want to lose. However, every time I try to start safe mode, it will just load all the drivers and restart the computer and when I boot the computer in normal mode, it asks me for product key which I do not have. I used to patch it when I was able to get into Safe Mode.

I'm stuck in the normal mode, looking at the popup that states.

guys, i am stuck in an infinite loop it seems. i was trying to start my pc in safe mode, to delete a .exe file from C:\Windows\System32 which was suggested by a post to fix the "windows not genuine problem". To be able to do that, i ran msconfig and selected /safeboot under BOOT.INI tab. now everytime i try to reboot my pc it asks me to select an operating system (windows xp pro/microsft windows) if i select windows xp then it asks me to select a startup mode (safe/normal/last successful) and then no matter what i select it will reboot it self, and do the same again. If i select microsoft windows (instead of xp) then it shows MS Windows 98 screen and then goes into DOS prompt. from what i have read in some of the threads is that, i have a virus which is preventing my pc to boot in to safe mode, and because i have selected /safeboot from msconfig windows will only boot in safe mode, meaning i am stuck. the workaround these threads were suggesting was to find the boot.ini file and rename it to something else, which would fix the problem, because this file holds the info about in which mode your pc should boot. i tried to rename this file from command prompt (i cant get into windows, thats why), using "ren c:\boot.ini boot.ini" but it says file name invalid. i think this is because its a hidden file. then i tried "attrib -h boot.ini", but it says attrib cannot be used in DOS mode. urghhh. anyone has any ideas?

After I had to do a full system recovery, I reinstalled all my programs and
updates. Everything was fine except I had trouble getting rid of automatic
password window at Windows startup. It was using an old user name even though that name didn't show up in User Accounts. Alot of things were being stored there and my start menu items were there. Sometimes, they would go to my only User Account called Owner under the computer name Gail. So, some were in one place, and some, another. So, yesterday, while in Safe Mode I took over ownership of as many window files as I could do as I had to keep opening files within folders. It didn't work to try to take ownership of everything within a file or program. I was trying to get rid of Administrators.Gail from permissions. When doing so it removed all permissions and I added back Owner or added it for the first time. A few of them had System as one of the permissions that were removed and I did not add it back. Don't know if that is the problem.

Anyway, after I restarted computer from Safe Mode, it did not reboot. It
went through Windows screen then went blank with a curser. No matter what I try to do to get back into Windows, I keep getting the blank screen. I can't get back into safe mode except with a black screen with the safe mode heading at the top and safe mode in all 4 corners. But there are no icons, start button or taskbar. A:Can't start windows xp even in safe mode

I have had a similar problem this weekend albeit with a Philips Freevent Mini PC. My PC was continuously rebooting - the black screen asking which mode my PC would like to start in (safe mode etc) but never managing to get load windows. After trying all forms of safe mode, I gave up and managed to resurrect my old laptop to find out what could be the cause. I understand that there are issues with XP Service Pack 3 and AMD processors (which mine had) and assume that this was the case with mine. All advice pointed to popping the System Recovery disk in and in the process wiping everything off and basically restoring my PC back to factory condition! However, as I had not been religious about backing up EVERYTHING on it (the PC is used for both personal and business use), I had to try and get all documents etc off before doing this.

I managed to get the harddrive out of my PC, put it in an enclosure and connect it to my laptop to get all the documents and setting off, before popping the harddrive back in and putting the recovery disk in which then wiped everything off the hard drive.

To cut a long story - my PC is back working and I have the documents and settings from before it went down. I have had to re-install all programs I use and have turned the automatic updates from Windows off so that SP3 doesn't accidentally install. It has taken me a lot of time (basically a day) and although I have managed to rescue everything I needed, I have learnt to back up externally and... Read more

This sounds like you need to do data recovery first!

There is a good chance your drive is failing with those symptoms..Buy a 2.5" enclosure - put the hard drive into and attach it to another computer...

Getting Windows bootable - should be the least of your concerns at this stage.

Hi, I'm relatively new to owning a generically made PC (vs. toshiba/sony laptops owned previously) And after about 1.5 weeks I already run into a problem I can't fix.

I was just doing some surfing, and then all of a sudden, while waiting for a new webpage to load up, the blue screen of death flashes "Beginning dumping of physical memory" And that's it. Usually in my experience it would reload XP, etc, but it just froze at that page.

When I restarted, the computer got as far as the page prompting a Safe Mode start-up, but wouldn't start Safe Mode when I choose it.

As it is, I can't get into safe mode, and hence cannot even run any anti-viral/spyware programs at all.

Am I going to have to re-install windows at this point?

I'm running Windows XP, Pentium D930, 1G ram (512 x 2), GeF 6600 vid card (That's all I remember, and I installed all my motherboard and video card drivers already, my games were running perfectly fine)

I'll appreciate any help or suggestions, I'm getting very frustrated...

***STOP:0x0000007B(0xBA4CF524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I shall be grateful if some can help me to solve this problem.

A:Windows XP does not start up even in safe mode

"STOP: 0x0000007B" means "INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE". What is your hard drive brand? It may be dying.

I opend my computer because I did not have graphics; found that the video card was loose and everything else inside the computer was tight and connected. When I restarted it first asked me to check all drives; check came back fine. When trying to start Windows, it first offers me the "Press F11 to start recovery" option, then it goes to the screen starting with "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this". I have tried safe mode, last known configuration, and start Windows normally options, but it keeps coming but to the "We apologize..." screen.

The computer was not connected to the network before of after the cleaning, and it was fine last night when I left. The whole problem started today.

Hardware: E-machines with Athlon 64 (single core), 2 GB RAM.
Software: Windows XP, all updates to date. AVG 7.5, Spy Sweeper, Zone Alarm

I was trying to delete this program that wouldn't uninstall, so I went to regedit, chose WOW6342node (I think those were the numbers), and clicked delete. I got a message about how I didn't have permission or something of that nature, so I assumed I didn't really delete anything. I realized that this wasn't the right folder after all... It looked liked it had some important stuff in it! After that Google wouldn't open, and my programs stopped responding, so I tried to restart. Now it won't log on at all! My username doesn't show up, just a bunch of triangle, squares, and circles. Then the symbols go away, and there's a blank blue screen. The screen flashes about every 30 seconds but doesn't start. I tried safe mode with command prompt, and it won't let me type anything in. It goes back to the same blue screen. I'm on a different computer now. I don't know how to fix it without getting into Windows. Did I really mess up? Is there some kind of code I can type in while the system is booting?

Im trying to help my father-in-law with his lap top. It appears to start up normally but after entering the log in password the nothing happens. The cursor spins for some time then the screen turns black. In safe mode I was able to run Hitman Pro, Malware bytes, and Super Anti Spyware. Each program removed multiple items. I am not very sharp on solving computer issues but I figured out how to open windows by going to msconfig/selective start up, and removing the check from load start up items. Then to the Services tab, hiding all Microsoft services and disabling the rest of the startup items.
Not sure what to do from here.

A:Windows Will Only Start in Safe Mode

What you have done basically is a Clean Boot.  The instructions below will explain how to go through the Services and Startup items systematically.
***This is a diagnotic tool for Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.  This will not repair your computer, but it may point to where the problem lies so that a repair can be made.***
Warning:  Disabling items in Services or Startup may leave your anitivius disabled until the process is ended.  For this reason I would suggest that you perform this process off line.
Step 1
(1)  Click on the Start orb, then type msconfig.exe in the Search programs and files box.
(2)  When msconfig is seen in the pane above the search box and under Programs, right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, you should enter the password or provide confirmation.
Step 2
(1)  Click on the General tab.
(2)  Click the Selective startup option.
(3)  Remove the check mark in the Load startup items  check box.

Step 3
(1)  Click on the Services tab.
(2)  Place a check mark in the Hide all Microsoft services check box, this will remove the Microsoft Services from the list but will still be running.
(3)  Click Disable all, this will remove all of... Read more

A:PC will only start in Safe Mode - very slow before when it could start normally

Hello and Welcome to TSF!!

You will probably need to load the files to a cd on another coumputer if you can't start in normal mode.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

Go to My Computer->Tools (or View)->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido (only if you have Windows 2000 or XP). If y... Read more

So the other day, i was watching a video on my computer and the entire thing just white screened and died,
Then when ever i started it, it would blue screen, then start the whole thing again,
So i re installed windows, and after i reinstalled it will now only start in safe mode, this is the start up screen, as you can see there are some mistakes in the writing.

Even when i tell it not start in safe mode it does.

So my friend talked me through resetting my motherboard bios, but it will still only start in safe mode, i have disabled it in control panel.

This is what it looks like when i unplug the harddrive and turn it on, so it isnt a problem with my HD, so i was wondering if i could reset my motherboard to factory defaults, my motherboard is an asrock 970DE3/U3S3

A:PC will only start in Safe mode even when i tell it to start in normal

Yes, you should be able to reset the bios for the motherboard to defaults. But to do that you need to get into the bios and find the section that has reset to defaults button.

I also noted that your graphics card drivers were a tad old:

Hey guys,

Yesterday I took to the task of cleaning up my parents' Compaq Presario computer, which included running a couple of AVAST virus scans and installing a few Windows updates that had been ignored for who knows how long.

AVAST found 10 infected files which I "Moved to Chest". Today I finished installing the Windows updates, but when I restarted the computer it failed to boot Windows XP. I'm shown a black screen with white text that says "We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully" and given the options to start Safe Mode, Last Good Configuration, or Start Windows Normally.

Starting Windows normally leads to the loading screen with the windows logo but then it stops and restarts, leading back to the black screen.

Last Known Good Configuration does the same thing.

Safe Mode launches a bunch of lines of text and then freezes.

I'm kind of panicking now. Can anyone help me out?

EDIT: Not sure if this is necessary, but I don't have a Windows XP CD either, and I don't think I can get my hands on one within a reasonable amount of time.

A:Windows XP won't start at all (in safe mode or using last configuration)

If it's a Compaq...there may be a restore-to-factoryj-defaults mechanism on the system. If not, then you need to think about contacting HP for recovery disks.

Since malware appears to be a likely cause for this unbootable situation...I'll try to get someone more knowledgeable to take a look.

Please be patient.

Hi guys,
Been having issues with my old man's desktop -- originally running a little slow (nothing major), but then slowly the HDD space began to disappear. It was very full last time I checked a while back, but not because anything had been downloaded / installed intentionally. Now it won't boot in normal mode (windows says its configuring updates, do not turn off), but it won't progress further.
Safe mode w/ networking is working, but I'm unable to access windows in nornal mode. That's the jist of what I understand at the moment. Oh, and there is 7.29mb free on the HDD.
I would very much appreciate any help or advice you could give me.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, wasn't sure on that.

At any rate, I just got myself a new ASUS laptop running windows 7 64-bit. Now I had no problems with it setting up Firefox, installing antivirus or installing the host of windows updates.

What did happen is that when I tried to reboot (for the second time, first time wasn't a problem) it gave me a screen called "configuring windows features". Now I at this point I cried out a few curses and went to have something to eat.

When I returned, half an hour later, the progress was still at 15%, the same as when I left it. Obviously having frozen up, I gave it a quick search. People with similar problems with windows updates reccomended forcing a powerdown despite the warning.

After waiting for another half hour I did just that. Now Windows is refusing to start at all. It just sits at the "starting Windows" screen. Safe mode gets stuck on the screen with the list of drivers and restoration tools just gives me a black screen.

So exactly how far do I need to bend over here?

A:Windows will not start at all, including safe mode.

A Repair Install might do the trick here. Follow this guide:

First off, I'm using an extremely ancient Optiplex 755 while waiting to get enough money to fix another computer of mine. I accidentally get some adware, and I was told to boot to safe mode. This was a mistake. Now it goes through the booting process, but when I should be at my login it's just black. Seeing on Google, this seems to be a common problem, but my backups are very out of date and I have no idea to work this old piece of junk. Somebody help!

See this post. I doubt you have SecureBoot on this computer so no need to worry about that. Editing the registry offline to put it back into normal mode may work but I can't promise anything. Good Luck

A:Windows Not Starting - Will Not Allow Start-up In Safe Mode Either

Two things to try: first, boot from the Windows XP cd, and once in Windows setup it will tell you to press f2 if you want to repair your XP installation using Recovery Console. do this. Once in RcoveryConsole, choose your windows installtion and type chkdsk. This will check your HD for errors. Ifit finds any, your HD is probably bad, and is causing the eroor you keep getting. If it does not find any errors, type in fixboot. This will fix the bootsector on your HD. After this completes, type fixmbr. This will fix the master boot record on your HD. Once your done with these things, restart and see if you can get into Windows. If you still cannot get into Windows, boot from the windows cd again, and this time instead of going into recovery console, elect to install windows XP. It will search your HD for previous installations, and when it finds it it will give you the option of doing a repair installation. Do this. What this does is reinstalls all the system files, but leaves all your programs and files intact. This will certainly fix the problem, if the previous method did not.

My BSOD issues started shortly after I accidentally lowered the fan settings on my GPU. I noticed artifacts in 3D games, then soon I could no longer open some programs, and not long after, I couldn't boot the computer at all without BSOD errors. I've been using the motherboard's integrated GPU while the other GPU is repaired, but I seem to be having the same, or very similar technical problems, even though I completely formatted the hard drive and installed a new operating system.
If it's any help, the BSOD has consistently listed the file AMDLLD.sys, although I suspect that this is hardware related.

I have an Acer laptop, with Windows XP Home Edition, Service Pack 2, and it didn't have anti-spyware for about a year. Then it got infected with spyware and adware. So I put Mcafee on my computer, which seemed to clean up all my viruses (except for some that it only partially removed, but which didn't bug me). Then a week later my laptop crashed (first blue screening and giving me a stop message for 1 second which i didn't have time to read). It rebooted getting as far as telling me to diskcheck which I skipped, and then crashing (with same blue screen as last time). It rebooted again getting to the same place, this time I allowed the diskcheck, and it still crashed. I tried starting with last good configuration and it again got as far as disk check (tried twice, once allowing and once skipping disk check) and it still crashed. I tried starting it in safemode and it started loading drivers, got as far as mup.sys then told me to "press Esc to skip loading Stpd.sys", I did, and it froze. I manually rebooted retried safe mode, it got as far as mup again, asked me same thing as last time, this time I didn't press Escape and it froze again.
I took a picture of the blue screens I was getting on my phone, and downloaded it to another desktop I have at home, and got a stop message of:

I have a desktop pc running Windows 7 Home 64bit. Yesterday I did some Windows updates and it apparently crashed the pc overnight. I can't gain access to safe mode. I really don't don't know anything about Bios or repairing computers I usually just restore though safe mode. I managed to set the bios first boot to usb-cdrom. I have the windows install on a cd and usb and nothing is happening with either in the pc.

It says Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need more info let me know. Thank you.

Hello. I recently tried to update my graphic driver through Windows Update and it caused the screen to go black. I thought I would be able to boot in safe mode and restore the changes, but it does not seem to be as easy as that in Windows 8.

I can access BIOS with F2, but nothing happens when I hold down or tap F8. I have tried to search around for a solution, but they are either not working, require the OS-CD or me to be able to log in somehow...

Some help would really be appreciated!
