unable to uninstall quicktime

Q: unable to uninstall quicktime

According to "Add or Remove Programs" QuickTime is installed on my computer but whenever I try to uninstall it I get an error message that says "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it" What does this particular message mean because it will not let me uninstall? I've already searched through all of my files and folders but I still can't find any trace of QuickTime. I use Windows XP

I'm trying to uninstall Quicktime from Windows XP, but I keep recieving the message:

Uninstall Halted
'A program or control panel which uses Quicktime appears to be running. Uninstallation cannot continue until you exit all programs using Quicktime.
It is strongly reccommended that you exit all windows programs before running uninstall.
We recommend that you click cancel to quit this uninstall, close any programs running, and them run uninstall again.'

How would I determine which programs are using Quicktime, or how would I disable Quicktime in order to continue with this uninstall. I have closed all windows and the only program open is the Add/Remove Programs.

I have an acer laptop running Windows xp. Yesterday I had to reimage my computer due to some technical problems. I did a full system backup onto my work server. I reinstalled the backup today but when I tried to open itunes I got an error message asking to send an error message to Microsoft. I have been on the itunes website and have uninstalled and then reinstalled itunes v8. It still wouldn't load. After reading the trouble shooting it suggested to uninstall itunes followed by quicktime. I have been able to uninstall the itunes but cannot get rid of quicktime. Every time I try to remove it through the control panel it tells me it cannot install due to a fatal error. I tried to repair damaged files but that didn't work either. Can you help me get this off so that I can try to renistall itunes sucessfully? Thanks

Hi Guys,
I'm sure you guys have read this same type of question a million times, but here I go anyway. I have not had any problems with quicktime or itunes in the past. In fact yesterday I was on itunes without problems. But I literally woke up today and was unable to access itunes on my computer. Noone else has access to my computer. I have complete virus, spyware, etc. protection. When I click on itunes I get the following message: This action is only valid for products that are currently installed. So after some agravation I decided to try and uninstall quicktime and itunes so I could start over, but I was unsucessful. When I go to add/remove programs, locate quicktime, and click on remove I get a message in the windows installer box that basically states: the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is ok to try again or enter an alternate path...blah blah blah. I have tried to research the problem, and have also tried some of the solutions, but to no avail nothing is working. For example I have gone to the search window and typed in quicktime and tried to delete any quicktime "links." I have deleted it from my c: drive. I have gone to "run" and typed in something like regetit (not sure if that is it--can't remember). Oh, and before I did all those things I did do a system restore. All in all I'm sure I have made the situation worse. Could someone please help me out? And if so, could you use step b... Read more

I'm so stuck with this problem...I had some issues with iTunes and Quicktime, so I uninstalled both and reinstalled them many times. Every time I received a random error message saying that iTunes had encountered a problem and needed to close. Following the instructions on the Apple site, I deleted the program files for Quicktime. Now I realize what a huge mistake that was...I removed the uninstall file. I have removed the files from many areas of my computer, but it will not allow me to remove the program from my computer. When I try I get an error message that says I do not have the uninstallation log file.

If anyone knows how to remove Quicktime from my computer it would be a HUGE help...thanks in advance...

When I try to install the stand alone version, it comes up and ask do you want to completely remove this program, I click ok and it gives me an error 1605 and exits. I have encountered a problem with Quicktime (and thus iTunes). I am running with Windows Vista 64-bit. Whenever I attempt to open Quicktime Player, iTunes, or another program that uses Quicktime, I get a popup window that says "Quicktime Player (or iTunes) has stopped working, Windows is searching for a solution to the problem." Of course no solution is found.

Upon Googling around a bit, I found that many people suggest that in order to solve the problem, both Quicktime and iTunes must be completely uninstalled from the computer, then reinstalled. I uninstalled iTunes with no problems, but when I use Programs and Features to uninstall Quicktime, it reaches the end of the the load bar entitled "Gathering required information" and does nothing else. No more load bars or uninstallation occurs, and Quicktime remains on my computer.

I searched for solutions to this problem on Google, and found several suggestions involving the deletion of the folder and other Quicktime files manually, including the registry (which I actually found no Apple entries in), and the use of the application Windows Install Cleanup. I tried all of this, deleted everything I could find of Quicktime manually, and reinstalled. I got the same "stopped working" problem. I repeated the process once more, but to no avail.

The problem started when I was trying to use older versions of Quicktime in order to make the Myst Masterpiece Edition and Riven DVDs work with Vista (I did get ... Read more

can anyone help? I am at wits end. New ipod want to download songs. go to page states to download new version of quicktime (I think 7.5). Go through the motions and at the end it states can't because older version cannot be removed. Found this site and saw my exact question answered. I went into search/find for quicktime and removed every single file. then I went into run and typed REGEDIT and followed through with all the deletions called for. In the Add/Remove programs Quicktime is still there however now there isn't an icon to change/remove, it just says used and date. In the control panel the icon still exists for Quicktime 32, opening this up does nothing, no place to remove, in fact it states there are no installation problems.

Whether Quicktime is one of the programs in the list it will remove, I don't know. It seems to appear in some computers and some not. reading around on the web it seems most problems were caused by attempting to uninstall while components of Quicktime were still running. There is also info for manual uninstalling in the first link I provided.Just had another thought, If Quicktime is still listed in the Add/Remove program, see if there is an option there to repair rather than uninstall.

Good evening Gentlemen, (and hopefully a few other ladies too).

I really need some help with a troublesome and unmovable Quicktime.

I can't play Quicktime files, I can't get Quicktime to work and I can't uninstall it - nor can I replace it with anything else.

When I go to any page with a Quicktime file I get the broken icon and now a message saying 'the plugin did not initialize properly'.

When I try to open Quicktime from the start menu all I get is 'Error # -2095."

When I try to access Quicktime Updater from the start menu is says ''Quicktime is not installed.''

When I try to Install a fresh Quicktime standalone WITHOUT itunes it says there is already a newer version of quicktime installed and it can't proceed without uninstalling the other one.

When I try to uninstall Quicktime from the Start menu it says it 'doesn't exist or is not a valid uninstallation log file.''
I've tried uninstalling it from the control panel and got the same message.

I also tried to uninstall iTunes which I never use and nothing happened. It started 'preparing to guide you through set up' then it stopped and did nada.

I read that the Quicktime problem could be a conflict between Apple and XP and what is required is an activeX file, but when I go to the Apple Quicktime site (where the activeX is suppose to be automatically prompted for) it just displays a warning: ''the plugin did... Read more

I have been trying unsuccessfully to get this program out of my computer. I have Windows XP. I followed some suggestions posted here previously, but have been blocked at every turn. I first went to C:\Program Files and attempted to delete the QT folder - got this message - QT Plugin.OCX Access denied. Then tried Search all FFs - got 41 listed but could not delete a single one of those - 3GPP Access denied. Can't do it through remove either. I'm afraid that the uninstall option is gone - there is only the Read and Update choices when I go to QT in my Start/All Programs list. Any help greatly appreciated. I have been plaqued by the WindowsException Processing message which I can stop by unclicking QT in the start up, but it always seems to creep back in so I would really just like to completely remove it.

A:Trying to uninstall QuickTime

Sometimes the best way to uninstall program when the uninstall is missing is to reinstall it and then uninstall it. So I'd recommend you download and reinstall the latest version of QuickTime from the apple site and see if that stops the error, and if it doesn't or you still want it removed then use the uninstaller created by the new installation.

So, I've been trying desperately to find a solution to uninstalling this quicktime crap off my computer, so I can re-install itunes. But I've tried EVERYTHING!

When I go to add or remove programs, and click to uninstall the program this little message pops up...

The feature you a trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Then below that is says,

Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package. 'Quicktime.msi' in the box below.

Then there's a drop down box that appears.

I really need to know how to get this off my computer, cause it's giving me a major headache.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could tell me how to get it off.

I recently downloaded an update from for itunes and quicktime. Ever since I ran the install niether itunes or quicktime will work. When I try to uninstall either program, windows gives me a message saying that it doesn't have permission the access the files. When I try to open the folders directly and do anything to them, I get a similar message saying that I don't have proper permission to access the files or folders. I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit, which gives you links to follow to take ownership of these folders. Even after I do that and windows says I have ownership of those files and folders, I still can NOT make any changes to them. Both the itunes and quicktime folders seem to have been corrupted somehow and I can't uninstall them in order to reinstall new updates. I even tried to go to a previous restore point, but Windows gives me a message saying that an error occured and none of my files were changed. I have no idea how to gain access to either the itunes or quicktime folders in order to change or delete them. Please help!

A:Itunes and Quicktime will NOT uninstall

You really shouldn't have access to any of those folders, anyway. What were you planning to do? If you go in there and start deleting things, you will leave parts of those programs all over the rest of your system, errors about missing files and startups will start appearing, your machine may not boot if burner drivers are missing, you will not be able to reinstall because the old programs were never registered as having been removed, and so on. You uninstall programs, You don't delete them.

So what has happened with the uninstallers? How were these programs installed? If one or both (and they get intertwined when iTunes is present) was installed from a CD, then try running that same installer from the CD again to repair the installation (and thus, the uninstaller), or to uninstall one or both.

Was then able to use the apple updater to install the updated quicktime version 7.7.8

As a precaution. The apple folders listed in the Installer cache folder. I used the takeownsership right click option on both folders before doing the update.

I recently tried to upgrade my version of itunes+quicktime only to get an error msg stating an older version could not be removed and the installation of quicktime would be aborted. I tried to manually uninstall from add/remove in control panel but got an error msg stating it could not find quicktime.msi. I did a seach for that file and found 2 instances of it and tried pointing the uninstall to them with the same outcome. I then tried to do a seperate install of quicktime and used a much earlier version hoping I could upgrade from there and "trick" the computer into it, but it "tricked" me by putting the older version somewhere where I can't find it and not doing what I want besides. I am considering just formatting the beast, but thought if there was a fairly easy way of recovering quicktime, I'd try that first.

I have tried to install their version in the hope that it would override it but it just tells me the version already installed is newer than the one provided on the disk and to uninstall it.
I also disabled my antivirus while installing the manual in case that was the problem.

Ok soo, I tried downloading the new iTunes 9.0, but for some reason it won't let me because a new window will pop-up saying:

A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed.

And then after I click "OK" this pops up:

The installation of QuickTime has failed. Itunes requires QuickTime.

This makes abosolute no sense to me. Soo I try installing the new Quicktime, but for some reason the same thing happens. Soo now I'm thinking maybe I should just uninstall this QuickTime. But when I do this window pops up:

A newer version of QuickTime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of QuickTime is installed.

What the heck?!? That makes no sense. I have also tried uninstalling it in CCleaner, but for some reason it cannot....

Delete MSI Installer.

This morning I was operating Windows XP with the latest version of Apple Quicktime. When I decided to load a music CD titled "LCD: Zorbas Dance" - 1996 with my intention to watch the included music video, the CD decided to install QuickTime 32 - the old and early version of QuickTime. It did this without question and without my approval. Obviously the CD is old and is intended for older operating systems like the one we had back then, Windows 95.

Please could somebody help me in this matter? I noticed that it had actually installed the old version when I saw the two icons, QuickTime and QuickTime 32 on the Control panel page. I have uninstalled the latest version of QuickTime but the QuickTime 32 icon is still on the Control Panel page, I am unable to uninstall this one though. is the version. 25-8-96 is the file date listed on the quicktime component page.

I installed Quicktime 3.0 from an old disc when I was trying to get my Dazzle video capture device installed and the disc froze and didn't completely install Quicktime. In the attached files, screenshot1.bmp and screenshot2.bmp, you can see how it appears in my programs menu, and the errors I get.

After the CD froze, I also got a popup message in the lower right corner that said that I needed to run chkdsk as there was some corrupt file. I tried to do it, but it couldn't lock drive C for some reason, so I checked the box to let it do it when the computer restarts. I'm afraid to turn my computer off, for fear that it won't turn back on due to the corrupt file.

The problem, is now that Quicktime was partially installed, images are trying to open with the Quicktime viewer, and I get errors when it tries to. I needed to open a jpg file, so I did a workaround for this temporarily, which was as follows: Right click on a jpg file I want to open, and choose Open With...I chose Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and clicked the box for Always Use the Selected Program to Open this Kind of File, and then I was able to open the jpg I needed to view. However, when I go to Internet Explorer and into my Hotmail, and try to open a jpg file someone sent me, it opens a dialog box that still shows Quicktime Viewer, but since I changed the program I want to open this kind of file, it still opens it with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. You can see this in screenshot3.bmp.

A:Quicktime - Incomplete Installation, Can't Uninstall

I'm surprised anyone would use such an old version of QuickTime. I tried it out, and the install is 16-bit. I think the second screenshot also indicates a 16-bit crash.
Are you saying the CD-R froze during installation? Can you attempt installation from a different source - say here instead - in the hope it overwrites the botched install? If it works, you may simply be able to uninstall it (there should be both an uninstall entry in the start menu and it should show up in add/remove programs as well).
As for the file type associations, you have to go into control panel (classic view), quicktime, then select file type associations from the drop-down menu and uncheck the boxes.
As for the QuickTime plugin handling certain file types in Internet Explorer - I don't think there's a setting to disable that from within QuickTime (I don't think it can be toggled off until QuickTime 4 - it's under MIME settings - I remember because it had the annoying habit of handling bmp's from within Internet Explorer and I had to turn it off). I thought if you had Internet Explorer 7, you'd be able to disable specific plugins, just as you can for Firefox, but I can't find an entry for QuickTime 3.
If you must absolutely run QuickTime 3, and you still have an old copy of Windows lying around, may I suggest using Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 SP1? Basically it lets you run your old version of Windows inside a window, and you can install QuickTime 3 t... Read more

My QuickTime player has gone lu-lu....for the second time.
This is my situation. I am unable to view videos(from my digital camera) and unable to access some websites.
The problem arises when I try to view a video, downloaded to my computer, from my digital camera. This is the error signature:
AppName: realplay.exe AppVer: ModName: quicktime.qts
ModVer: Offset: 000cd909
I'm also advised that my Quicktime player is out of date and to please update. OK...I try that, then get the message:
QuickTime player is not properly installed. Please reinstall.
So I go to Add & Remove Programs and first attempt to "Repair QuickTime", which is unsuccessful. Then I try to uninstall but can't because files are missing.
Okay, I go to the Apple website, to peruse the Support options and IE "encounters a problem and needs to close". This is the error signature:
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: quicktime.qts
ModVer: Offset: 000cd909
I've also had an IE crash, with the same error signature, on another website.
So......I can't get to Apple for a solution, I can't use QuickTime, can't update QuickTime nor am I able to uninstall it.
I also started my computer in Safe Mode, to try a QuickTime uninstall, but that didn't work either.
I don't have an ipod, nor do I download music, but I apparently need the QuickTime software to view personal videos and to log onto some websites.
This is the second time this has h... Read more

A:Quicktime-can't update, uninstall or reinstall

Hello redrose451

Well, if you cannot update or uninstall Quicktime all that is left is to do a "dirty" uninstall. This involves just deleting all the folders and files then searching the registry to remove all signs of QuickTime.

Are you up for that??

1. Delete all the QT folders

2. Start/Search and type in
"Start Search"
Delete everything it finds.

3. If you have no other Apple products installed repeat step#2 searching for Apple this time.

Now for the registry

1. Back up the registry
a. Click Start /Run and type in "regedit" (no quotes).
b. Next, click the File menu, Export
c. Select a location from the resulting box and give your backup registry a name. Save it in C:\

2. You must do this carefully. Make sure to ONLY delete QT entries
Start/Run and type in

When regedit opens
Edit/Find and type
in the box
Click "Find next"

An entry for QT will be found.
Right click/delete

Repeat this (find next) until you get a report saying "Finished Searching"

Then (if you have no other Apple products installed) repeat the above typing Apple into the find box until it has finished searching.

It should be all gone now

An alternatine to QT can be found here

My iTunes stopped working all of a sudden. Checked iTunes website and was told to access QuickTime through my Control panel. However, when I try to do that I get the error message

"An exception occurred while trying to run
"C:\WINDOWS\ system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL"C:\WINDOWS\system32\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTime"

This led me to think that my iTunes problem originates with QuickTime, so I decided to uninstall my QuickTime and reinstall it.
However whenever I use add or remove programs to uninstall I get the message "Fatal Error during installation"

I would appreciate any help. I have HijackThis and CCleaner and can post my registry log if it will help.

Help! To get the new versions of Itunes and Quicktime alternative to work, I need to uninstall Qucktime from my computer. I was able to uninstall Itunes but when I try to uninstall Quicktime, the uninstall wizard appears for a split second and then vanishes. I've been able to delete all other traces of Quicktime from my computer (program files, etc) but can't get add-remove quicktime to work.

A:Can't Uninstall Quicktime From Add-remove Programs

Hello and welcome,

If you have deleted quick time from program files, the entry in the add/remove list will not function. when you click remove, it tries to access the uninstaller located in the program files. in order to get rid of it, you have to re install it, then once it has been installed, it will have repaired itself, then the entry will work in the add/remove list.

hope this helps

I lost itunes by trying to uninstall it. I did this because I wasn't able to update to newer version for my ipod . A message keeps coming up saying"A newer version of quicktime is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of quicktime is installed". Also this error message comes up "Quicktime failed to initialize error #2093 Please make sure Quicktime is properly installed on this computer." I can't install Itunes without Quicktime so now I lost itunes completely. When I go into add/remove programs, I can't unistall Quicktime because that first message comes up about : newer version is already installed... a big mess

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit. Quicktime was working perfectly until yesterday when I tried to install the newest version of iTunes but the installation failed (I received "Cannot Open Key:"error) When the iTunes installation failed, it took Quicktime with it. I navigated to the key in question and found 3 iterations of it. I set the permissions to full and tried again but every time as the program installation neared completion, I would see an icon for Data Execution Prevention appear in my system tray. I have tried to set the Quicktime installer to be ignored by DEP but no luck. I also get the "Windows Installer Stopped Working" Box some of the time and when I click on more details it seems to point to MSIEXEC.EXE. I have visited Apple's forums, COMPLETELY uninstalled Quicktime, iTunes, Bonjour, Apple Software Update and Apple Applicaton Support several times per their instructions in these articles : and with no luck. A:Unable to reinstall Quicktime

I am Richard and I am going to help you try to fix your problems. I am not a specialist in this area, but I have worked on these issues before. My hope is we can at the very least improve your situation. I am working on another QuickTime/iTunes issue now, and we are on post 74, but we are making headway! I have never seen corruption as bad as his before, we have had at least 25-30 error messages to deal with one after the other.

iTunes requires QuickTime to function, however QuickTime can be run standalone. Therefore, you will never find an iTunes installer without QuickTime.

Step 1) Please download QuickTime ONLY from here (without iTunes) Apple - QuickTime - Download

Attempt to install it and tell me the error message you get. If you have already downloaded it, download it again. This is because if you don't know Apple, they make a new release, such as 9.1, and then they quietly make a second 9.1 release in a few days to fix all the bugs they had "forgotten about". Therefore we want the second version, newest release!

Step 2) When you uninstalled all this Apple software, did you use the Windows Installer Cleanup Tool. Do not rush into using this tool until instructed, as it is extremely powerful, and making a mistake could force you to clean install your Vista.

Step 3) Can you try to post the full error messages in future, rather than just snips of them. Thanks! Also, a screenshot is fine.

Tell me how this goes,

AVI, Mp4, WMV, all popular video types have the same effect, also in 3 different media players.

I've tried SO many threads and techniques to fix this, but I'm unable to, this has been a VERY deep rabbit hole I've traversed and can't find my way back out.

Let's start at the beginning...

I stopped auto installing updates because I had issues with doing so in the past, so my windows updates stacked up for a bit. (I know, I suck!)

I started installing them all last month and found 4 that would not install, a couple of them seem to be serious and my friend recommend I get them fixed.

I first started out with the installation problem...where a message popped up saying "Could not open key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\QuickTimePlayerLib.QuickTimePlayerApp\CLSID. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel." I followed basically every step I could find on the internet, from uninstalling related files, running OneCare, etc. I eventually got Quicktime to install by going through every Quicktime key in the Classes folder and setting it to an Admin permission.

But now when I open Quicktime, a message pops up saying "unable to create control" twice, and I can't play anything because it says the same message. Any help? Thanks.

A:Quicktime Opens With Error "unable To Create Control".

Nevermind, I think I fixed it...there were some keys that I apparently forgot to fix. If there are any more problems, I'll post them here.

So I've confirmed that it's not just my computer that has issues with quicktime playback in vista. If you have vista+firefox+adblock plus(extension)+quicktime, then you likely will not be able to play embedded quicktime videos (either crash browser or get illegal operations). If you disable the adblock plus in the "add ons", it works fine. Now I'm not sure if the problem is with the quicktime plugin or the adblock plus. For now I've disabled adblock plus and installed adblock instead, not as good, but at least it blocks the evil intellitxt with some configuration. Just thought I'd share what I found since I believe this is a common problem. If you want some quicktime to test your playback, go to and view some quicktime videos. I'm not sure if this combination always causes this issue, but it did on a new install of vista as well as on my machine. I know xp works fine when using ff+adblock plus to play quicktime. Any comments welcome to further discuss the cause or if you are having the same problem.

A:Confirmed Problem: Vista+Firefox+Adblock Plus+Quicktime= No Quicktime Video Playback

I am not sure what happened to this program. I have a lot of MOV. that I use with quicktime, as well it is needed to view alot of internet things.

today when I clicked on it to open Quicktime I got the error 46: could not load or find the quicktime active X control.

I have tried unistalling, reinstalling, making sure to remove all aspects of Apple software, including Itunes, and registry accounts.

The program installs fine then, when I click on it to execute the program I get the same error.

I then tried to do a system restore, but his has not cured the issue either. I am opposed to bypassing issues and installing 3rd party software, this always leads to leaving some huge error on my computer, so I would really like to address this issue, and figure out how to fix it.

Of course Apple/quicktime, does not offer actual support for their products, which is of course bogus, but still just the same it is a main stream function and I need it.

Any suggestions as to how this can be addressed?

thank you

Hey there,

I have a problem with quicktime, but I cannot remember when it started, as it was quite some time ago...

every time I tried to open quicktime player i got an error message saying:

An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL

(exactly as I typed it, without closing quotation marks in the first line and then ,QuickTime" added after the closing quotation marks in the second line)

I just tried to uninstall and then reinstall quicktime, but that didn't seem to help.. Now I don't get the error message, but instead absolutely nothing happens.. I do still get the same message though when I try to open the quicktime configuration from the control panel.

(I run Windows XP SP2, but it was a dodgy upgrade rather than clean install, I suspect that might have something to do with it)

I'd really appreciate any help, because this error message has got me absolutely baffled...

EDIT: I just remembered how it all started, there was an unrelated problem with my pc, and the tech guy who I got to have a look at it just restored my pc to an earlier windows restore point (which was created before I installed iTunes). Suddenly I couldn't start iTunes anymore, it just gave me an error message that quicktime failed to initialize, and ever since then I have had this problem..

I'm using Win 8.1, an internet service provider technician installed an app that I can't remove, I don't know what the app does, but it's listed in the installed programs under control panel, and also there's a folder under Program Files (x86) in C, whenever I tried to run the apps, it just said "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application". I tried to remove the apps from the control panel, it does nothing. Is there a way to remove it manually and make sure everything is removed?

Thanks for you comment/suggestion

My Win2k System Tray shows a QuickTime icon, but I don't recall having installed QuickTime and there is not QuickTime entry in Settings/Control Panel/Add or Remove Software. Right clicking the icon gets a menu window with a dozen menu choices greyed out except - "QuickTime Web Site" and "Exit". It doesn't seem to be the MySpace QuickTime exploit; I don't ever visit MySpace. Any idea what this is? HJT log below.

Whatever I do to update java 6.0.18 to 6.0.20, I get the same error code:
"1606, could not find network location :. " (It is a stand alone computer, and no network installation.)
I get this message with online update by jucheck
I get it with online update with jxpiinstall.exe
It get it with the offline installer : jre-6u20-windows-i586-s.exe

And even more comprehensible, I get this error message if I try to uninstall Javan6.0.18
(I thought I make a clean installation after, but that is impossible too.)
the update from 6.017 to 6.018 went easy without any manual handling required.

I use: Vista sp2, on a Acer Aspire 5810T

I have tried unsuccessfully to uninstall easy web cam. I get the message 'Could not open INSTALL.LOG file'. The title to the error box is 'UnWise Uninstall'.

I am using Windows Vista on a Dell Inspiron E1505

I tried to reinstall thinking maybe I messed something else, but still, no success. I realized after I did my second that I allowed the backup which overwrote the original backup. now I cannot restore the correct backup.

I purchased and downloaded 'Registry Mechanic' which cleaned up and made my pc run faster, but still I cannot delete this program.

I installed the software for a Netgear WN311B wireless pci adaptor onto my computer running XP home SP2.
On trying to run "set up" to load updated drivers - the prompts go through an uninstall old software and then tell me to remove the pci card - which I have done.
On runnibg set up again - the routine is exactly the same and I cannot get to the set up sequence to install new drivers. Have tried uninstall from xp, uninstall from the netgear wizard, tried in safe mode, tried with all antivirus software disabled, tried system restore, - nothing seems to be able to stop the set up programme from detecting some old programme it wants me to remove. Any ideas of what to try next???:

Every program I attempt to uninstall gives me an error message, the most common being "Cannot open install.log" Obviously something has gone wrong - what to do? Running XP

A:Unable to uninstall any programs

It sounds like you may have used some "cleaner" that removed all your log files as unnecessary. The uninstallers for many applications use the information contained in the install logs to reverse the installation process.

The best way to remedy this is to reinstall an application that you want to remove in order to create a new install.log. Then uninstall it.

Hi all,

I am trying to uninstall WINZIP 11.1 (through the Add or Remove Programs window), but I keep getting Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Classes\WinZip\Defaultlcon. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel. When I click OK, I get Fatal error during installation.

I am using Windows XP and running Norton 360. Any help?

Thank you,

A:Unable To Uninstall Winzip 11.1

First, go to Start>All Programs and locate WinZip. Hoover you mouse cursor over it and you should have the option to uninstall it there.
Also try doing a search for the Winzip file and open it up and see if there's an uninstall folder and run it there

Hi Joe

Yes sometimes it works if you reinstall then uninstall as a temporary fix, but that wont solve what the underlying issue is.

My computer gives the error "Unexpected error in RealDownload. The program will now unload. The system cannot find the path specified." on startup.

I have tried uninstall RealDownload, but it gives the same error. It won't uninstall.

Does anyone know what I can do? I'm not even aware I ever installed this program on my PC; I take great care about what I install as it's a critical machine. I have emailed Real Support, but they've washed their hands of the problem.

Thanks for any help you can offer :)

Hello matt99b, Welcome to TSF!

If you don't recall installing this program on your computer; then, there is a possibility that it is rogue software.
That said, I recommend that you read this article… "Having problems with spyware and pop-ups? - First Steps"; follow the instructions very carefully; then, post all the requested logs and information; as instructed, in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum.
(Simply, click on the coloured links to be re-directed.)

Please ensure that you create a new thread in the HiJackThis Log Help Forum; not back here in this one.

When carrying out The 5 Steps, if you cannot complete any of them for whatever reason, just continue on with the next one until they are all completed.
However,it is extremely important to make mention of the fact that you could not complete any of the steps in your post to The HJT Help Forum; where an Analyst will assist you with other workarounds.

Once done, please be patient, as the Security Team Analysts are usually very busy; one of them will answer your request as soon as they can.

Good Luck with it.

Kind Regards,

Hi again, having big problems trying to get rid of RealPlayer. I've removed it from Task Manager, but when trying to remove "RealNetworks" from Programme files (x86) it's saying "the action can't be completed because a file or a folder in it is open in another programme" which is impossible as there isn't another file open. Then at the bottom a box opens saying try again with the same result each time....?

Much appreciate any help thanks as it's become a "RealPest" !

A:Unable to uninstall RealPlayer....??

Reboot into safe mode by pressing F8 at the boot screen and then try to uninstall it. More than likely there is a process running in the background. Otherwise, try searching for the tool "revo uninstaller" on google. This may force the uninstall even with the software in demo mode.

"GetLastError()=2: The system cannot find the file specified" is the message I get when trying to uninstall a program (corel painter). I can't even access the program. When I do I get a "R6002 floating point cannot be loaded error." I don't even know how prevalent this issue is because I have only tried to uninstall corel.

Earlier today I found out I had a win32/parite virus and it took a while to get that cleaned out. Now basically everything is back to normal except for corel painter.

I tried to reinstall corel painter OVER the existing corel painter program, but a error came up as follows: "The app. failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005) click OK to terminate the program"

Need help badly. Thanks.

General Advice is:After uninstalling at Add/Remove Programs,if "things" remain, they will likely be foundat a particular location.Technically it would be called:%Program Files%\The Program Name\any left-over files.Usually meaning (in a case like this):C:\Program Files\Yahoo\Internet MailandC:\Program Files\Yahoo\Messenger\Explorer BarLocate the "main folder" in the location it installed to.View the sub-folders & files that may remain.Verify they are related to those programs you uninstalled, not for instance, someprogram of Yahoo that you may still be using.Right click & delete them.Reboot and view to see that the "traces" are gone. When recommending this sort of "manual deletion", after uninstallation in other ways ... like when we utilize HJT to help get rid of malware, I have made these statements, also:Search for, locate and delete files or foldersTo find them use: Start-->Search-->select "all files & folders"-->select "more advanced options"-->check search "system folders", "hidden files & folders" & "sub-folders". You may also navigate to the appropriate folder, right-click-->delete individual files.(They may not exist, the previous steps may have eliminated them. We're double-checking some of these)Do not delete main folders like C:\WINDOWS or C:\Program Files.Delete manually:and a l... Read more
