Hello, my wifi adapter has had a history of problems before today, I had to reset it frequently as I lost connection easily. Today, I had booting issues so I performed a hard reset on my computer. I then realised the wifi adapter 'disappeared' from the Networks and Sharing centre and I couldn't connect to any wifi. The Broadcom wireless adapter was also hidden in Device Manager. I then uninstalled it and tried to reinstall the adapter using HP Recovery Manager but from Device Manager I cannot see anything installed. Installing from the HP site also yields nothing. I'm unsure if the Broadcom adapter is the problem to my wifi woes.  This is what I see at Device Manager. Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I'm an IT Tech and a customer keep bringing me an Advent laptop back every 2 weeks or so with the same repeating issue. The wireless driver seem to stop working (2 drivers - 802.11b/g Mini Card Wireless Adapter and Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter) and it cannot detect any Wireless Access Points (WAPs). To resolve the issue each time I have been uninstalling them from Device Manager, rebooting the laptop and letting Windows 7 install them again from Windows Update. After this it can then "see" the WAPs again. How can I prevent this from happening again?

Thanks for any help in advance

I thought my old USB wifi adapter went bad, so I bought another usb wifi adapter and it also says, "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it." So with 2 USB wifi adapters saying this I thought weird but I went and bought a TP-Link wdn3800 PCI wireless adapter and it is also saying the same thing, and driver install failed. A device attached to the system in not funcitoning. I have went through all trouble shooting steps in computer management, manually trying to install drivers from disk as well as newest drivers from website. I know now it cant be 3 bad devices, something else is wrong here. I am using windows 7 home premium 64 bit on a M5A97 motherboard. Chipsets are up to date. Any and all help is appreciated since this is my business PC.
Thank you please help me.

Taken the IDE hard drive (with Windows 8.1 installed) out of HP Pavilion 15-e72sa laptop and replaced it with a Crucial SSD drive, then installed Windows 7 but cannot get an internet connection. There are yellow warning markers in Device Manager next to the Network Adapter and Ethernet Controller. The laptop has a Realtek RTL8188EE 802.11bgn Wifi Adapter for which I can only find a driver which is for Windows 8. Tried and tried to find a suitable Windows 7 driver version to no avail. I would really appreciate any advice.

A:Can't Find Network Wifi Adapter Driver

qurios, welcome to the windows 7 forum. Have you looked at the HP website for the model of laptop?
they usually have drivers for most OS's. Sometimes the Vista driver will work on windows 7 if it is an older laptop.

you need the motherboard drivers as well as the network device drivers and video card drivers.

I have an HP Pavilion Dv7 Serial: 2CE1452LGF Product: A1T85UA Basically my brother in law owns this computer, and he got a virus on it. He came to me to help him. I tried to reload windows on it, but ran into an issue with the wireless driver not installing properly. I tried many times but I cannot get this driver to install. Then we ordered the restore disks from HP and they faliled to restore. I ran all three disks together, and it gives a message after running all three and trying to restore that the restore failed. I then tried to run it with just the operating system disks, and not the third disck with the drivers on it, and it still fails the restore. I want to know if anyone out there knows why this wireless driver keeps failing to install. It starts up and then just abruptly ends with no error message at all. I have turned off the firewall to make sure that was not the issue, and I am running as the administrator as well. I don't much care if the restore failed, because I have a valied copy of windows 7 Pro on the computer now and it is a valid not pirated copy. I just want to know if there is a trick out there that will force the computer to take this wireless driver so I can use the wireless and get rid of the wire connection. Thank you in advance for your help. -Sid

A:Wireless Driver Ralink 802.11 b/g/n WiFi Adapter Failed to I...

LOL! Something is stuck... Let's try going in the back door... Click on the network controller in the device manager. Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.  Select the "Browse my computer for software method," and browse to the installation folder that was created when you ran the driver. That folder will be listed in C:\SWSetup\sp57538. Make sure the include subfolders box is checked, and hopefully the driver will install that way. If not, try the ralink driver directly from ralink...second grouping listed is what you need. http://www.mediatek.com/_en/07_downloads/01_windows.php

Hello. I bought a computer yesterday. When I realized I hadn't had a wireless card installed I took it back and had one put in. I don't know if that has anything to do with this problem.

When I go to Control Panel>Devices, my hard drive shows an exclamation point. I rightclick>troubleshoot and am told I need to reinstall the device driver. After applying fix I am told "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter has a driver problem - Not fixed". So I go to the device manager and find said adapter under "Network adapters", which still has an exclamation point next to it. I rightclick>update driver software and am told "The best driver for your device is already installed".

This is my first Windows machine in years, so I'm not sure how to go about fixing this, or even what the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter is or if I need it. Earlier today the computer did not want to connect to my wireless network, while all my other devices did. It seems ok after unplugging/plugging in the router.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Unable to update driver for Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter

I would advise right clicking on the device that has the excalamation point and choosing "Uninstall", then select the check box to delete the driver software as well. Reboot and see if Windows detects and tries to install the software again, if not you can:
1) Go the the manufactuers website to get the drvier
2) Use the driver CD - if you got one for that device

NOTE - If this is for your wifi adapter, you will need to connect your computer to the router with an ethernet cable to get the driver from the web.

I have updated all the drivers for Lenovo Z51-70 with all the updated drivers they had hosted for Windows 10 recently.

After, insure the following commands from elevated command prompt have been completed:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=whateverulike key=whateverulike

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

netsh wlan show hostednetwork

The last command should show if it worked or not.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop + Windows XP that worked fine untill I have updated the WiFi driver. Since then I get exclamation mark on the device and I can't turn on the WiFi.

It had Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG , and v11.1 driver, but was occassionally dropping rate, so I decided to update the driver to the latest 11.5. Since then I got exclamation mark on the device and was unable to turn on the WiFi anymore, and when opening its proerties it prompts a message "ADAPTER STATE NOT FOUND IN REGISTRY" and shows that device does not work properly. Installation of the driver to "found new hardware" fails says driver "the system cannot find the file specified". I tried to rollback the driver but it did not help. According to the system requirements for that device, it does not support windows 10, which may be you issue.

Hello!

I registered to forums to get help to solve wireless adapter issue I am having.

I have been looking for help in Lenovo forums and AV provider: problem is still on.

Background

I changed AV software from Symantec to F-Secure. I uninstalled Symantec software and installed F-Secure software. Laptop is Lenovo T520.

What happened

First I recognized that ping commands caused Windows to crash. Then I uninstalled some VPN softwares and ping started to work. Operation did something to wireless and LAN connections, they did not work anymore.

LAN started to work by removing LAN drivers from device manager and reboot. After reboot Windows reinstalled LAN drivers and LAN was ok.

Wireless is a pain in there. I have tried almost everything. All Lenovo provided network softwares and power management tools are uninstalled and reinstalled together with wireless drivers. Wireless driver is not recognized by Windows.

None of automatic repairs or wifi uninstallation operations have corrected problem.

I collected some logs which might help, but now I do not know how to proceed. Windows reinstallation is something which I do not want to do.

Hi, My laptop has a very weak wifi detection. Only when the wifi signal is very strong can it detect the wifi. I tried contacting HP regarding the same. They said it could be a loose connection with the wifi antenna. I have been waiting for the custumer service in my area to contact me(like HP promised!!!) for quite a long time now . Now I am in urgent need to get this fixed. I was wondering if an external wifi adapter would solve this issue. Mine is a Windows 10 laptop. Model no: ab030tx (pavilion). I have a HP Notebook 15. I restarted my laptop this morning and when it came back on, all options for connecting to the internet via WiFi were gone. I am able to connect to the internet via ethernet cable, and everything works this way. There are no options whatsoever to connect to WiFi or reset the connection or anything, however the WiFi itself is working because other devices in the house are connected to it. I followed a HP technical support online page, which provided step-by-step instructions of various ways to reconnect to WiFi but nothing worked. I tried restarting the computer, updating the driver software, making sure it wasn't in airplane mode, and troubleshooting. Nothing worked. What should I try next?

I just bought a brand new Asus K52F and when the laptop goes into sleep mode the "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter & WiFi Miniport Adapter #2" fail. When i turn the computer back on i have trouble connecting to the internet, and the devices have error (code 43). I can still connect to the internet though. I have re-downloaded the drivers, rolled them back, updated them, everything but it hasn't worked. Any help would be sweet.

Also can anyone tell me what the white light up button next to the power button does??

A:WiFi Miniport Adapter/Adapter #2 Error

The virtual wifi mini port adaptor is used as a virtual wifi device so you can turn your machine into a wireless AP "access point" either with commands or the connectify software. The adaptor sometimes activates itself and causes problems, even when your not using it as an access point.

It should fix the problem if you go into device manager, go to "view" top of page, then choose "show hidden devices" which should allow you to see the mini port, disable the virtual mini port adaptor and that should fix the problem.

That little button next to the power button is a reset button, it's like restarting but a little different.

After upgrading to Windows 10, trying to start a hotspot with the Connectify software throws the error "Your Wi-Fi adapter does not support AP mode. Please try updating the drivers for your Wi-Fi adapter". Trying to start a hotspot through command prompt using 'netsh wlan.....' throws the error "The hosted network couldn't be started. The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation" In the device manager, Driver Name :  Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi M.2 AdapterDriver Version : 7.35.344.0Driver Date :  1/26/2016 Seems updated. But, I am still not able to start a hotspot to tether the connection. Can anyone help me solve the problem?

Everyone's had the problem of wanting to disable the wifi miniport, or enable it to share wifi.

I have a different problem. I would like to change which wireless device the wifi miniport uses, as the external USB wireless adapter I was using died. I cannot see the wifi miniport adapter without that device attached, it seems. I don't even know if the wifi adapter even as options to select which wireless card to use even if I could get it to appear.

Is there a way to do this without having to resort to reinstalling Windows 7?

I am fairly familiar with netsh. No command line option seems to be available to switch network adapters for the wifi miniport.

It also appears that it will simply not switch to the only wireless network adapter detected, and I know it will host a virtual wifi network, I've done ICS/AdHoc before.

A:How does one change which wifi adapter the wifi miniport uses?

I tried the solution in this link: How to change default Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport adapter?

This did not work.

So, there are many articles out there that will show you how to use cmd prompt to create a wifi hotspot (eg: this article Internet Connection Sharing - Create WiFi HotSpot)

However, is there anyway to do this with TWO separate wifi adapters? That is, use one adapter to connect to your router and the other to act as the router? Some articles seem to indicate this is the ideal setup but no one seems to specify how to control which wifi adapter is used to create the wifi hostpot in command prompt.

Thanks for any help.

If I can get the basics to work, the next step is to try to integrate a VPN so that I can basically use my PC as a VPN router (but with no physical ethernet connection).

Actually my wifi adapter can catch all other wifi signal except my wifi router.

A:my notebook wifi adapter don't get my wifi router

There are several resons.1. The wifi signal might be too weak at the point where the computer is.2. Other device radiation/signals might be blocking it.3. Your router signal might be hodden (check EWS of router).4. Signal broadcasting might have been turned off on router. Since other signals are found on the computer, there shouldnt be a issue with your couputer.

A:WinXP / WinXP Embedded USB Driver Interoperability

XP Embedded is supposedly a componentized version of Window XP. It's intended for OEM's developing an embedded computer, usually for some industrial or large commercial application, rather than your run-of-the-mill PC.

Hi all,
I have 2 laptops, my wifes and mine. They came with Vista installed and neither of us like Vista. I reformatted the hd on mine and installed XP Pro on it and with the drivers I got from Intel and Acer it works just fine. Mine is an Aspire 5920 model. My wifes is an Aspire 4720Z model. I repeated the process on hers that I did on mine and installed the drivers for it. All worked well except for the WiFi driver. I have tried everything and have searched the net and cannot find the correct driver for it. I contacted Acer and after paying them 59.95 for 30 minutes of tech time, came away with absolutely nothing but a 60 dollar deficit in my bank account. They said that I was doing a downgrade and they do not support downgrades, and recommended I search the net, which I had already done. I have been searching again since yesterday afternoon and am now to the point of pulling out my hair, and I have a crew cut, so you know by that how frustrated I am getting. Can anyone please help me and let me know where I can find the drivers for this laptop. Thanks in advance for any help you may give me.

I want to configure my Windows XP x64 laptop to act as a wireless access point

The card connecting to the internet will be a 10/100/1000 ethernet card connected to a wired router.

The conneciton I'm sharing through is its wifi card.

In a nutshell, I want to share my laptop's connection as if it were an access point, which I will then use to connect my Nintendo DS to so I can connect to nintendo's WFC service.

I want to WEP secure the shared connection as well (the DS can't handle WPA).

How would I configure the laptop to act as an AP?

Hi,

My first post. I have a two part question.

I have a TP-Link TL-WN95N v1 PCI 300 MPS WiFi adapter. I can find no driver to work with it in Windows 8. Else where on the 'net claims were made an Atheros driver was on board but the only Atheros drivers I have is for Ethernet chipsets. I have got no where looking at Atheros.cz or the TP-Link Support site. If anyone can help me with a driver it would be appreciated.

The next part is can someone tell me what PCI WiFi cards will definitely work with Windows 8.

I am running on a wired network at the moment but not very practical as I wheel my desk into another room.

Thanks,

Robert...

A:PCI WiFi Adapter

There are very few drivers or network adaptors that are made to work with Windows 8 as yet. Most network adaptors that worked with Windows 7 will also work with Windows 8.

Your best bet for your TP-Link TL-WN95N v1 PCI 300 MPS WiFi adapter would be to use the Windows 7 driver and install it in compatibility mode.

You can get the full wireless N speeds of 300Mb/s by going into your routers settings and set to use the "802.11n Only mode" and also use WPA2 security with AES encryption as these are made to work at full wireless N speeds. You would also need very good signal strength and a clear wireless channel for full N speeds.

Which is better, a usb wifi adapter or pci wifi card, for a desktop.

A:Wifi Adapter

either is fine. I think you will find a pci has slightly more power,eg slightly more range, but also have removable antenna. Most notebooks have wifi built in anyway, so portability of the wifi unit isnt an issue. I'd be going with a pci wifi card myself, mainly because of the antenna options.

A:Wifi adapter

Go to Start > Control Panel > Device Manager and check the list of devices to see if your wifi adapter is listed - expect to see it with a yellow tag which shows the system has found it but not been able to install the drivers for it. Double click on the device and then the driver tab; click on update driver and wait for the system to find a solution - I am assuming you have a cable connection to the internet as you clearly have access by another means.

I need an adapter to enable a LAN via Remote Desktop between my two rigs running W7 x64 Pro. I got to thinking about using a USB adapter, in lieu of a PCI controller, primarily for ease and simplicity, but have never dealt with either option before. Are USB adapters equal to PCI adapters, or is one better than the other? Which ever I use will have to talk with my ZyXel X550 router.

EDIT: The LAN will be operating in a permanent range of ~12 feet, going through one wall. I have no idea of how much bandwidth is required for RDP to function properly.

Do not go with a dongle, a usb network adapter... I recently bought a Belkin USB adaptor and it has caused me so much stress and after two weeks is still not installed. My intial advice would be to stay wired but if that is not an option a wireless card in a PCI has a better advantage...running something as fiddly as a network through a USB port kind of seems wrong to me. Although I have no experience of network PCI cards I'm sure they beat the hell I had with my Belkin dongle.

My Pavilion 15 notebook has turned an occasional WiFi fault into a regular one. The wifi drops out and there is nothing in network settings about wifi at all. Device manager will occasionally show the wifi adapter, realtek RTL8723BE 802.11 b/g/n, but usually it isn't even there. On the odd ocasion it shows up, properties says there is a problem with this device - this device doesn't exist. Great. Realtek are hopeless as they seem to provide no support. I cannot roll back drivers, installing new ones doesn't work and system restore doesn't fix it. Can I replace it with one that actually works? Do I need a specific type? This problem is likely to result in the laptop taking an unauthorised flight to the bottom of my garden if not resolved as I am an angry ginger person who wants things to just do their job, it's not as if it needs to do much.

2. Edimax EW-7811UN 150Mbps Wireless 11n Nano Size USB Adapter ---- link:http://www.walmart.c...apter/17419471
Which of these 2 will give the best signal strength, speed, etc. or are there other Wifi adapters that are priced under $20 or so that are better?
Thanks ~ Dan

I have a desktop and a apple iphone

Is the wifi adapter all I need to create a wifi hotspot so that I can get wirelessly online with my iphone?

A:Wifi adapter

I don't know for sure. All that I do know is that my PC doesn't have a WIFI adapter. But after installing the newest software version 4 and enabling WIFI on the iPhone, I now have WIFI access called "Jigs" whenever I am near my PC. I suspect that it is using my FIOS router's wireless for this.

Hi good people,

So, I'm on here like thousands of others with intermittent wifi issues. I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 yesterday and everything works very well except for losing my wifi connection every 30 minutes to an hour.

My wireless adapter is a Broadcom 802.11n
the driver I'm using is Broadcom version 6.30.223.256

I've updated the drivers and the same loss of wifi happens. I've rolled back the drivers and the same loss of wifi happens. I've even tried a driver directly from the lenovo site that is a Cybertan Liteon driver that is the latest version for windows 8.1.

I've also unchecked the box in the power management page. Then rebooted.

I've also used all the commands, in the command prompt admin that start with 'netsh'. Then rebooted. The same thing still happens.

So, I'm up for new suggestions including compatible drivers from different manufacturers.

I'm really hoping there's a Z585 user on here that has solved this issue. According to the Lenovo web site this particular laptop has the latest drivers on the site and none of them are working so far.

A:Lenovo Z585 losing wifi after driver update, driver rollbacks, 'fixes'

First, is your laptop supported for windows 10 on lenovo website.....meaning are there drivers and software packages for it? Have you tried downloading the 8.1 driver for it and then running it in compatibility mode?

Hi, This latop Model # is: J3Y84PASo basiclally it was working for one and a half years and today it stopped working.I don't see any wireless connection due to this issue. I am not sure what is causing the issue though because in device manager I can see the network adapter but I am not sure if this is the wireless network adapter or if there is supposed to be another adapter there in device manager.  If you can provide any help I'd really appreciate that. I tried installing the LAN drivers but it still doesn't work. Currently I am using an HSDPA dongle  to connect to the internet and it is working fine. I hope the information is sufficient for you guys to help me out here. If there is anything else I can provide feel free to let me know. Thank you in advance!

Approximately 6 weeks ago, I suddenly began to have problems with my connectivity on my laptop. I have a router and multiple devices that receive wifi in the home. When I was able to get reconnected, everything ran very slow in loading- sometimes it won't even load properly. This problem in only with my laptop and only at home. When I've used a friend's wifi or public, it runs perfectly. I even purchased a new, stronger router and I still have the issue. I've been doing a lot of reading and am wondering if someone can tell me what the property settings should be for my wifi adapter. I don't know much about computers but from everything Ive read you can uninstall or go to cmd and enter codes to get this adapter to stop working.  I went to device manager and disabled it.  When I go to system information, components, network
and look at my adapters it is enabled.  I started cmd, followed instructions here and disabled it.  After reboot I couldn't connect to the internet.  It said correct driver not installed.  I thought you could connect to the network from
the laptop without this adapter.  Am I misunderstanding something?  Can someone please help?  Like I said, I know nothing about computers.  I just want to connect to our network and internet without using this.

So I will have a few questions coming up about wifi settings but here is one I'm very curious about right now..

Will turning this off or on give me the full speed of my wifi adapter?

I just want it to have full speed. I've read some of what QoS is and it sounds like it limits things so that certain programs and such can have access to more speed.. however I want my wifi adapter to just always give 100% full speed no matter what for every program at all times.. so why would I turn this on?

thanks

A:More Wifi Adapter question

Why not try things both ways and find out how it effects your system? It's my understanding that you may gain a little bandwidth by turning it off but probably not enough to make it worthwhile.

Supposed drivers? You should download the drivers from the Dell site for your model and try those. Make sure they are the ones for 8.1 64-bit.

Hi!

I'm having this problem for last one week, after boot my computer just freezes. When I boot without USB Wifi Adapter the computer runs okay. I have 2 different Wifi Adapters, with both of them its the same problem.

I followed this thread [Solved] USB devices freeze computer - Gigabyte - Motherboards-Memory , and disabled usb legacy support. the computer ran fine with USB adapter after that (last night) but today morning again its freezing.

Problem started with TP-Link wifi adapter, now i'm using Linksys Wifi Adapter.

driver update doesn't do a thing.. I read somewhere there could be IRQ conflict, how do i check that?

A guy just brought me his system; it was cleaned up of scareware, etc by someone else. But now he's lost some shortcuts, and most oddly, no usb wifi adapters will work on his machine. (dell inspiron. XP Pro. 2 GB)

His onboard ethernet works, and his onboard wifi works. If you disable the onboard wifi and plug in the usb wifi adapter - ANY usb wifi adapter - then the system sees it, installs the drivers, and tells you it working properly.

When you go through the hoops to connect it, it sees the router, sees the network, and tells you it's connected. But ipconfig gives you media disconnected, and it won't get online. Can't ping nobody.

I reset the winsock, just for kicks, and re-installed TCP/IP as well. no luck. I checked the BIOS and nothing there about USB devices. I tried every other usb port with no luck. I disabled all security. in the systray, Windows says it's connected. ON the network selection screen, it says "disconnected", - although, when I select it, the only loption it gives me is to "disconnect"

The usb adapter works on his wife's machine. There are no bongs of any kind in the DM, and all the services that are supposed to be running seem to be running. (I think)

Anyone ever see anything like this? Am I missing something TINY?

I'm planning to buy a WiFi 5Ghz USB adapter, but I don't know which one is truly plug and play.

Edit: By truly plug-and-play, I mean using the adapter without a driver taken from a website (and manually download it) or from a CD.

The target system is Windows 7, whatever version it can be.

Do anyone know if such WiFi adapters exists ?

In Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections there "WiFi" is 'not connected' with a big red X
When I right click on that icon a menu comes up saying Disable
                                                                                             Connect/Disconnect (in bold letters)
                                                                                             Status
                                                                                             Diagnose etc
Disable works and then so does Enable, but 'Connect' does absolutely nothing.

Please help me re-connect this Qualcomm Atheros adapter

A:WiFi adapter won't "Connect"

Delete the Wifi profile for the device you are trying to connect to and create a new one. Does that help?

If this happened recently then doing a System Restore may help. I always recommend that any files added to the desktop after the restore data be moved to the My Documents folder. Any programs installed after the restore data would need to be reinstalled.

So, I woke up this morning and realized the the wifi adapter on my ThinkPad 430 is disabled. It's been working perfectly fine for a couple years, but as of this AM it didn't work. My smart phone can connect to the wifi access point just fine. Does anyone have any idea what I can check to get it working again?

I have Windows 8.

Thanks!!

A:The wifi adapter is disabled

Hello ryguy,

If you have not already, check in "Network Connections" to make sure that the Wi-Fi network adapter is enabled.

Network Adapter (NIC) - Enable or Disable in Windows

In addition, double check to make sure that you have Airplane mode turned off, and Wireless devices (Wi-Fi in 8.1) turned on.

Hope this helps for now,

Hello all,

Since a few weeks I'm the proud owner of a wifi usb adapter. When I use him my pc blocks, sometimes almost immediately, sometimes after a few hours, minutes ...

I found yesterday the problem: the wifi adaptor and my graphics card are both using IRQ 16 (I hope that is the problem).

However, I tried to change the IRQ immediately in the hardware overview window, but it's not allowing this.

Can you help me with this?

Thanks in advance!

Hi. I am moving today and the new plkace has wifi already. But i know nothing about it, i'm not a PC geek, just a user. I know very little, but i HVE been told i need to know if the router is G, N, or AC. Well, i looked at them and noticed some support all those standards or whatever they are. I will try and find out which it is if i must, but unless there are compromises i'll just get one that supports all G, N, or AC.

So heres what i need...i need it YESTERDAY, so a item i can get locally at say bestbuy or office depot would be good. I also need it on the cheap because i may be needing to get my own internet soon afer i move in and it won't probably be wireless. So cheap and local and will work, so if theres anything i need to look for what would that be. And what particular brand/model do you think will work for me. My current internet is 15 Mbps and i find that just fine, so it don't care if it's real fast. (plus not sure how fast thie service i'm going to have is) Location wise, the wifi router is under th house right next to a wall it needs to go thru to my place 25 feet away and then thru the wall of my unit. So router>wall>25'>wall. Both my PC and the router are right next to the walls they must go thru so the total distance will be just about 25-27 feet.

Is there a multi standard one on the cheap (say under $30) that will work and can be bought at a local chain? Thanks.

I have been having troble with my Realtek wifi adapter, loosing connectivity every now and then. At times troubleshooting will work by Reseting the adapter and I will have my connection back. At other time post reset the wifi adapter would no longer be available and listed in Device MAnager. Most of the times when I restart my system, it will not find any adapter in Device Manager. I have tried everything, but no success; wiped out my system and did a clean install, updated BIOS, moved back from Win 10 to Win 8.1 (which came in my laptop), tried several drivers and still failure. Can someone help on this...

Win7 sees the adapter right off the bat names it right but does not install drivers for it.

So I tried to use some hacked buffalo drivers that lets me create a softAP and open the adapter up to all devices. -on XP sp2

Seems the drivers are not valid for vista 64bit / win7

So I tried the latest drivers from Nintendo 1.7 and still no luck I try to run the software it says no drivers for my OS and I try to install it manually in DevMang.

Any one have a solution to this?

I'm trying to connect to the internet from a Celeron - Windows XP PC via wifi router using a usb wifi adapter. The adapter sees the wireless WEP enabled network, connects to it but cannot get an IP address. Tried three different adapters (D-link, Netgear, WIFI Lan - 400) but no prevail. Tried static Ip, didn't work.
Any suggestions?

A:usb WIFI adapter does not get IP address

Disable ALL encryption and any MAC filtering on the router to try to get connected. When you get that working add encryption back in, I recommend WPA and not WEP. If you must use WEP, use ONLY the hex keys, not the ASCII passphrase.

Hi,

I have a 64 bit Gateway M-6888u laptop with Vista Home Premium

everything was working great and then the wifi just quit. i know the router is good because another laptop on the same net still works fine and i can use the internet connection if i physically wire between it and the back of the router.

Windows says it cannot find any networks because, 'the wireless capability on this computer has been turned off". the Moble options of the Control Panel shows the wireless capability has indeed been turned off with a big red X through it. Trouble is, the button to turn it ON/OFF is grayed out and disabled!

How can i get the wifi back?
