Solved: hpqthb08.exe .net framework initialization error .net framework: v1.1.14322

Q: Solved: hpqthb08.exe .net framework initialization error .net framework: v1.1.14322

I have the task of resolving a .NET Framework issue on a friends HP laptop running Windows XP. It seems that whenever the system starts up, an error message is displayed as follows:

hpqthb08.exe - .NET Framework initialization error. To run this application you first must install one of the following versions of the .NET Framework: v1.1.4322

I have tried to run MS updates and they fail due to this issue and when I try to remove it from the laptop I get a query for a missing file: s867460.msp. I've tried to remove it in order to re-install it thinking that the file hpqthb08.exe is somehow corrupted. However all de-installation attempts fail seeking the location of this s867460.msp file. I cannot locate a download for this file and at the moment have no idea where to turn.

Any ideas?

- David

History: My previous post, "XP BIG mess after intallling new hp Officejet J4580 All-in-One, and SP3. I won't repeat all the problems I was having, but it all culminated in my running "System Recovery". [System Restore had failed to work on ot least 6 different previous "Recovery points"]

So after running the System Recovery and 2 long days of reading every Thread on this site, and Googleing etc, I finally have the ability (once again) to browse the Web and can send and receive emails.

However, in atttempting, again, to install my Officejet printer, I encounterd an error message, to wit "Fatal error 2753 along with the message "MSI.dot4wrp".

In addition to that problem, every time I boot up, I get the error message,
"hpgthb08 - .NET Framework Initialization Error" and a dialog box containing
"Please set HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point to .NET Framework install location". Where do I find this HKLM whatchamacallit, and how do I make it POINT to anything? If I was smart enough to do that, I'm wondering, if it might also fix my Fatal error on my installation attempt.

I'm about at my wit's end, here - my wife is complaining about the time I'm spending on this mess and I'm not sure if I'm any closer to a solution now than I was last Monday.
Thanks to all,
Old-duffer35

Here is the setup-and-install section.

Here is the solve-a-problem section.

Here is the link to the current version(10.0.0) of the software package and all the patches.

UPDATE:

I did a system restore to 4 days before, and I can now isolate the issue. After the restore, I tried opening chrome, but it BSOD'd on me. I got suspicious, so I tried opening firefox, and it opened with no issue. Spotify also works.

So, from what I know now:

I updated Chrome on Nov. 7.
On Nov. 8, I started receiving a .net Framework error.
Following the error, I thought of updating the .net Framework to version 4.5, which did not help.
I then did a system restore back to Nov. 6
I am no longer receiving the .net Framework error.
I tried opening chrome - BSOD immediately.
Firefox and Spotify worked correctly, no other errors.
SO, now that I know the issue is with chrome, how do I go about fixing this? I prefer chrome as my primary browser, so I would like to have it fixed if possible.

I have 2 harddrives (a SSD and a HDD), would installing it on the other harddrive work?

Yesterday I used my OS disk to repair my computer. I am running XP Media Center Edition. Today when I turned on my computer I got two error messages:

"The procedure entry point getrequestedruntimeinfo could not be located in the dynamic link library mscoree.dll."

and

"c:/windows/microsoft.Net/framework/v2.0.50727/mscorwks.dll could not be loaded"

I cannot reinstall my TurboTax either. Is this something I can correct myself or did I really screw things up and need to go to a pro now?

Welcome to TSG, Kyra3812

I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft.net framework.

Start > Control Panel > Add/remove programs. Go through and uninstall all previous Microsoft.net listings, then download and reinstall it.

The newest version can be found Here

FYI - It's against the rules to post multiple times about the same issue.

I want to begin by saying how stupid i am.
My computer was starting to get slow, and i did a power clean in it.
The thing is, i think i cleaned way too much.

Now some links are not working, for instance if i press properties in Computer, in start, it won't do anything. But if i search for system, it will open the same window.

Also, advanced system care is all crazy. The links there also won't work.
I have attached an image as an example. Aside from that, when i start it an error screen shows up, and asks if i want to continue, restart or abort.

I thought those were all DirectX problems, because i uninstalled it and i was going to install a new one. When i finished downloading the SDK, however, an error screen telling me to:
"Set the registry key HKLM/Software/Microsoft/.NETFramework/installroot to the .NET install location "

Also, if i press next, another error screen shows up saying errors were encountered during the installation of .NET Framework 2.0 . Error Code: S1023

First, i re-installed .NET Framework, nothing was fixed, and then i double checked the install root thingy, and everything was okay.
Also, i don't have any system restores or any kind of thing to recover from. Its really driving me crazy, i didn't even get to update the drivers.

I was having a problem before where I had a similar error at startup. The name of the box was MOM.EXE, and it said it couldnt run the problem if i remember right.

Im both cases i can click the OK button and the error doesnt come up again until i restart my computer.

A:At Startup Error: Mom.exe - .net Framework Initialization Error

This error may be a result of the .NET Framework either not being installed or the installation is corrupt. Go Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and make sure the Show Updates box at the top is checked. Then search for an entry called:Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0If it is there remove it (don't worry if it is not there). Then go to this site and download a fresh copy of it. Install it, reboot and then see if your problem has been solved.

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 is a full cumulative update that contains many new features building incrementally upon .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, and includes cumulative servicing updates to the .NET Framework 2.0 and .NET Framework 3.0 subcomponents. The .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update provides important application compatibility updates. "

After installing this, I notice from Control Panel/ Add_Remove Programs , that there are any number of previous versions of .Net Framework and similar named programs

Tried everything. From adding full user control to trusted installer and creator/owner in Windows/Microsoft. net and Program Data directories to therepair service verifier, making sure virus scanner is off, fixit solutions, sfc /scannow's clean bill of health, uninstalling a few upgrades mentioned with .netframe 4.0 and 3.5 etc etc. I get a fatal error if I try to uncheck .net 3.5 (the only version I can see since all other have been uninstalled) in 'turn windows features on and off), smartmsizap, msiinv, Smart boot(cold boot? with the startup items not checked and initial boot config). I think something is wrong here with either registry or program permissions because the initial 4.5.1/4.5.2 install zips to a random c:/ directory and then it asks me to find netfx_core_x64.msi which I point to in that directory, but says it is not the netfx_core_x64.msi that came with the installation.

As of current, I do not have any working .net framework which is bad because 1) some progrmas, ie video games require it 2) my schoolwork/development environments need it for things like Git

Another weird thing is although I manually installed net framework 1.1, only 3.5 shows up in the 'turn windows features on or off' and I can't 'uncheck' it or add the sub trees underneath it. Almost like it is not there but doesn't want to install additional componenets or be completely uninstalled.

I'm not quite sure if the errors are part of the same problem or two separate things.
I started getting the Bad Image error about a month or two ago. It started for me when I tried to run Sims 3. I thought nothing much of it, other than perhaps sims just not working for me (as it does that sometimes).
The next program that I got the error for was puu.sh, a screen printing program I installed quite a while ago. Never had problems with it prior to the this. (I've since then uninstalled puush and began using another program for screen capturing)

Currently I am getting the bad image error upon start up for the driver that allows my Wacom tablet to run.
I'd be greatly happy if someone could help be resolve this issue, as I am afraid doing so on my own will cause even more trouble.
Thanks in advance!

I have to install an application for a job and when I run it, .NET Framework 3.0 is installed first , but it fails giving a 1603 error.

I tried changing the Permissions from this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Security\ServiceModel 3.0.0.0 to allow Everyone.

I made sure no firewall or other registry program was running.

I also downloaded an application called Error Fixer, or MS-Fixer or something like that, which I read about on these fora, but that didn't work either. It only prompted me to buy if I wanted it to do something.

I also tried to open the exe file using 7-Zip, so I could manually install .NET Framework 3.5 (already installed) and the actual program I want. But that didn't work either.

I don't know what else to do, since the problem is the version of Framework that comes with my application.

Any help? I have Vista Home Edition 32.

Hi I tried twice today to download and install the following updates, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86. it is a large update taking approx 30mins to download the 248MB package. Both times it got to the end of the download and the next I got was a message saying installation failed. At first I thought it was Comodo BoClean so turned it off the second time but got the same result anyway.
My PC is an AMD Athlon XP2400+, 1GB of RAM running on XP3 and updated via Automatic Updates "notify but do not install". I got a MSN email notification on IE8 RC1 and decided to check my Firewall connection to Microsoft Update, where I was told that the mentioned updates were available and decided to install them though not IE8 at this time.

For real time protection I use Comodo CIS, Comodo BoClean and SpywareBlaster. I switched off BoClean the second time and set CIS to installation mode both times. I cannot see anything else on my PC which could hinder the installation process. In my Add/Remove program list I have Microsoft .NET Framework versions 1.1,1.1 Hotfix, 2.0 Service Pack1, 3.0 Service Pack1, 3.5, Should I uninstall these before installing the latest version or should they all remain on my installed programs?. I would appreciate it if someone could offer some help here as I like to keep my PC up to date.

Hi .Well...let's start with the reason you have MS .NET installed on your system. What applications/drivers do you use which require any version? If you have no such applications...IMO it's not even necessary to install any version of MS .NET on a system. Doing so is a waste of time for those who don't have applications which demand MS .NET.http://forums.techarena.in/customize-xp/866859.htmLouis

I haven't downloaded this update as I have dial-up and it says 26-48 hours to update this. Also, I had to reformat my computer three times with the SP3, even downloading from disk instead of internet - so scared to download Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847) x86 as don't want to have to reformat (and also don't want my computer running for 2-3 days to download).
Are there problems with this download like there were with SP3 (I ended up never being able to have a working computer with SP3)? Do I need this update? Will there be problems if I download from internet, and if not any other ways to update this (for free)?

This update also added an addon in Firefox named Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant 1.0.Does anyone have any comments on whether to allow this addon or not? It can be disabled. There are 2 options in the addon. The first option is to prompt or not to prompt before running Click Once Applications. I chose PROMPT. The second option was to Report All Versions of .net or only the latest version. The default is to report onlythe latest and I left it like that. What the heck are Click Once Applications? Ok, sunk a couple hours into what the problem is, unfortunately I cannot work out how to fix it short of reinstalling my operating system (If I take it off, I refuse to put it back on, to many headaches already).

Basically I needed to update to .net framework 4, and my system lied and said it was done successfully. I then tried to update to XNA framework 4, and got;

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2908"

Followed by;

"An error occurred during the installation of
assembly 'microsoft.xna.framework.avatar,fileversion="4.020823.0",version="4.0.0.00000",culture="neutral",pub licKeyToken="842CF8BE1DE50553",processorArchitecture="MSIL". Please refer to help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x8002802F"

Which, when I googled it, told me I wasn't alone at least.

I started looking at the 2908 error and found a few links to the Microsoft answers page, an answer and a line of people basically saying that the answer did not work. Rather than including myself in their number, I kept looking, and found the sfc/scannow command (Which refuses to run,"windows resource protection could not start the repair service"(Why don't these messages ever tell me <WHY>?)), and at Microsoft XNA Framework 4.0 problem | Terraria Online

It is a wi-fi device and works lovely IF you're only doing one particular thing (e.g., printing), should you need to scan, then you have to reinstall the whole printer again...after having Dell troubleshoot it. I BELIEVE this is when it started...all I know for sure? The "all-in-one" printer is bogus.

Around the same time it was absolutely imparative my 13 yr. old HAD to hook up Xbox Live. Those are the only two events I can specifically point to.
And yes, I've uninstalled, reinstalled (2.0 is not compatible with my machine)....pretty much everything but click my heels three times.
Any help would be appreciated....IMMENSELY!

For just under two weeks, I've been getting this 'unhandled exception' every time I boot my laptop. I've Googled, searched MS's site, and searched here. From what I gather, the error is common enough, but the specifics change from event to event. So I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere, this is just out of my element to fix. Here what the window says: (I'm eliminating the JIT debugging portions of the message since that seems to be standard.)

The actual error message says: Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. {std text} followed by: Cannot anchor balloon at position '{X=1157,Y=780}.' The point is not contained within the visible bounds of any screen. Parameter name: point

Then the "Details" are listed as:

System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Cannot anchor balloon at position '{X=1157,Y=780}.' The point is not contained within the visible bounds of any screen.
Parameter name: point

A:Solved: Error Creating Process for .NET Framework

I'm guessing that you're referring to

Microsoft .NET Framework (versions 3.5 SP1 or 4.0)

and not to

Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (versions 2005 or 2008 or 2010)

--------------------------------------------------------

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 will install versions 2.0 SP2 and 3.0 SP2 as part of the package.

Download and save the full 231 MB file, then close all open windows first, then double-click it to install it.

Hi, im having trouble when i open some application that requires .net framework 4.5 or above on my windows XP. I read that windows XP not support that .net framework 4.5, the latest only .net framework 4.0, but is there some trick maybe the application that requires framework 4.5 can run with only framework 4.0 ??

A:is it possible that application requires framework 4.5 run with framework 4.0??

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

There's no tricking a program as it will search for the 4.5 installation files to use. .NET framework is a program that runs to help other programs function within Windows.

Hello,
On my Dell Dimension Windows XP home edition XP SP2, I'm trying to install the software (Dantz Retrospect backup) and USB drivers for a new Maxtor OneTouch II 100GB external harddrive. The maxtor CD installation process crashes with these two errors:
1607-Unable to install installshield scripting runtime.
1601-Error installing Microsoft(R).NET Framework.
I called Maxtor tech support and they emailed me a link for each error. Neither link worked.
I've tried installing Microsoft(R).NET version 1.1 from my IE browser "windows update" and the installation fails to install.
The computer seems to function normally except for this weird problem.
Have any ideas for a fix?

OK, I do understand that some software is designed to work with a specific version of .NET, and that one attempting to interface with .NET might not work if the version is newer than expected. But c'mon... how many programs are out there using .NET framework 2.0? Is it really necessary to have it installed? I can understand version 3.5, but 2.0 seems like really old hat...

I have a window vista and when I install ".NET Framework 3.5 Sp1" for Sony vegas pro 11, it lags and the startup of the laptop is very slow. But before I installed ".NET Framework 3.5 Sp1" I try to run Sony vegas pro 11 and as it loads, the loading is stuck at "Initializing .NET runtime" and I thought by installing ".NET Framework 3.5 Sp1" it will work and after the installation, I can't even open Sony vegas pro 11, it will just lag and I need to go to task manager to stop the process for Sony vegas pro 11

Hi, what happens when you go to control panel programs and features and uninstall .NetFramework from there. That registry key is not meant to be populated if it was :-
"C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\ngen.exe" /nologo /silent

I would do nothing with this until you see if it shows up in remove programs the v1.1.4322 would need to be replaced with the latest. Even then it is not meant to point anywhere.

Could try MS uninstaller :-

Hello everyone, I appreciate all the hard work you put into solving computer problems that zip by the heads of most. Today, I have an interesting little error that needs to be solved.

It happened a few days ago when something happened to my wireless adapter software-wise. It gave me an error message telling me I need to download the .NET Framework v 2.0.50727 to access my applications. I recently rebuilt my computer from a nasty virus and I'm confused at why it didn't crash right away, but I digress.

I downloaded the framework setup from my laptop and transferred it to my desktop via flash drive. I had it installed and I can once again access wireless internet, but a new error messagebox appeared, it is the attachment with this post.

Though it would pop up any from 30 seconds to 2 hours, I ignored it because everything was still working. However, it is hard to play games and WoW when that pops up because no raid wants a tank who stalls and I don't want the game flow to be broken. I thought downloading .NET Framework v 3 (normal, not SP1) would help, but I still get this error.

If there is anything you can do, it will be appreciated. Here are the full details:

OS: Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
Wireless Adapter: Linksys Wireless-B PCI WLAN Adapter

Have you tried uninstalling anything to do with .NET 4.0 from Programs and Installed Updates (you'll find bits in both places) and starting over? I'm attaching a pic which gives the KB numbers for all my .NET 4.0 updates which will hopefully help (from Belarc Advisor).

If you used a registry cleaner, optimizer or tune-up utility, see if it has a restore button, as that could be the cause.

Alternately Microsoft support may be able to help, no harm in trying.

I trust this is Vista SP2?

Upon startup of the computer I get some Microsoft.Net Framework errors that started happening out of no where. So I'm wondering if I can just uninstall all traces of Microsoft.Net and go to the Microsoft website and download the latest version. The errors say stuff like cannot load .Net framework and error with inbox or something. I'm given the option of continuing or closing and when closing the error goes away and doesn't appear unless the computer is rebooted. Only happens once.

Thanks!

I just found out that PC MightyMax, which he downloaded without my knowledge, is a type of spyware/malware and am currently in the process of removing it.

If that's not the only problem, information would be helpful!

I installed a Neat Company product. It installed fine, but when I tried to run it, I got the following:
?C:\Windows:\Microsoft.net\Framework\3.0\WPF\wpfgfx_v0300.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error?
Can anyone tell me how to locate and install this file? I have tried and can?t find it.

You can try placing a fresh copy of wpfgfx_v0300.dll into that location. Download the dll here. That page contains additional info that may help you.

Windows Update says I need to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 . When I try to install it it says:

The following updates were not installed:
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

So, I click on Start, Run, and type in installer. I find Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 RTL x86 enu, right-click and select uninstall. I get a pop-up saying " This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." So I right-click and select install. I agree to the licensing agreement and get the error:

Internal Error 2356. _2564_csc_exe_config_rtl_________.msm

Note: I'm in the process of re-installing windows. After downloading SP2 and then another 51 updates, I was downloading custom updates that included Windows Media Player 10, .NET Framework 1.1, an Nvidia codec, a GeForce 7600 GT driver, and a SATA Raid driver. During the install of these I got a blue screen (which displayed for about 2 seconds. I didn't get a chance to read it, let alone write anything down) and then a reboot. I went back to Windows Update and the above mentioned updates were all listed except the .NET 1.1 Framework.

Any help resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Even a nudge in the right direction.

Hi all
I tried out the RC beta of win7 Ult x64, and the appz i use daily worked on it. So I got myself a real copy of win7 sense I dont need all in Ult I thought save some ? and get Pro x64.

But This gave me a lot of problems with .NET framework 1.1 which I must use for the app "Magic File renamer".

When I try to install framework
Code:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyId=262D25E3-F589-4842-8157-034D1E7CF3A3&displaylang=en
I get this error:

Code:
MS .NET Framework Setup cannot write to the setup log.
It closes and I get an option "Install with recommended.." and I choose that.
and get the same error.

Try to install it with using "Run as admin.." and get the same error.

Sidenote:
I installed Pro in same way as Ult. using no specific accounts, just the default created by win. Looking in control panel it says "administrator" on me.

Cheers
Nico

After installing "WD My Book" external hard drive, I began getting the following error:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately."

I try and click "Details" but this error will not allow me to click any of the options listed. I have to go into task manager to close the dialogue box. I can't even find out what the file conflict is that is causing the problem. The error occurs after the application has been running for a while.

I tried viewing the other messages on this error, but since I can't view "Details" I need additional help. Will one of the downloads for .NET Framework help?

Can anyone help?

A:Microsoft .NET Framework Error

This works sometimes....

Uninstall all .NET Framework stuff. Start with v4, then v3, then v2, then v1 - rebooting after each one.
Then download and install each version in order (first v1, then v2, then v3, then v4) - rebooting after each one.

Good luck!

I have been having a problem installing v3 of Net Framework. It starts to install then stops for a three or four minute period and then just quits. I am not real tech savvy but just for the heck of it, I tried to install it in Safe Mode. When I did, I got an error message that reads: :The Windows Installer package: i;dad73c7e45a49ed864b3c2\vs_setup.ms_ could not be opened". I know enough about my computer to question why it would want to find that "package" on my I drive (which I use for backup). What could be causing this problem and what can I do to fix it? I am running XP Home edition.

Just as the title says... whenever I attempt to install the .net 2.0 framework x64 onto my fresh install of Windows XP x64, I receive the error message: Error 1304. Error writing to file C:\Windows\winsxs\Manifests\amd64_Microsoft.VC80.CRT... Verify that you have acces to that directory.

And what is odd is that other programs do the same thing, i.e. Unreal Tournament 3. pfft.

Also, I am the Administrator/only user on said PC.

Any tid bits of advice to resolve this problem would be /greatly/ appreciated.

Cheers,

Hello!

Well done for uploading that log file, and for what you have already tried.

Are you running this as an Administrator? Can you please log in with your normal administrator account, and tell me if the problem persists?

Thanks a lot!

Richard
