I have the above notebook and my WLAN button will not stay engaged. I am writing simply to ask if anyone knows if this is a common problem with these machines. I bought it new at Best Buy about 8 months ago. I did not get the extended service agreement. this problem first occurred a couple of days after my 30 day warranty expired. I took it back to Best Buy the next day and the button was working properly. the person at the repair desk at Best Buy said these machines are known to have this issue, however I have not heard anything about it since. The WLAN button worked fine until yesterday. online chats with HP were no help. I will take it to a repair shop to get it fixed. I would just like to find out if anyone has heard or knows if this is a common problem with these machines....thank you.

Upgraded my Presario 2568 to WinXP, everything works, except the on/off button for the integrated wireless lan (front right side near blue LED and IR). This worked before the upgrade from XPhome. There is a heading under Start Menu called Utilities:

Start Menu>Utilities>Wireless Configuration

There is a dialogue box that opens, and says "The following devices are controlled by the wireless on/off button. Click an icon below to turn one device on or off."

There is nothing in this list. Anyone know how to get the HP WLan 54g device listed in there?

A:Compaq Presario 2500 WLAN On/Off Button

Have you gone to the HP website and download all the updated XP Device Drivers? You may also want to check the FAQ on that site to see if its a known issue.

One last thing, Go into Control Panel -> System -> device manager and see if there's any missing drivers or errors.

Got a nice new Laptop (Dell Core i7 Latitude with lots of RAM).

Running 7 Pro x64 and everything installed fine EXCEPT for the WiFi card, which is an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 that fails with the dreaded Code 52 - Cannot Verify the digital signature.

Followed all the usual steps (deleted it as well as the drivers check box in device manager), then rebooted and it failed to find a driver on reboot when it did the usual hardware install thing. OK. So go into device manager again and update driver. Got the latest drivers from the Dell web site. Resulted in a Code 52.

Did same again, but this time got the latest driver install from the Intel web site and it is a couple of point versions more recent than the Dell one. Resulted in a Code 52.

Yes, I did check the WiFi switch position (I don't think that would have stopped the driver from going in) and it is on.

I contacted Dell support and after three hours of ding what I did, they just suggest a reinstall of Windows and gave up.

No other devices failed to install, Everything is there and working except the WiFi. I did wonder if the card is faulty, but how to tell?

What to do next?

A:Code 52 on WLAN install

see here.
Disable driver signature enforcement

I suggest turning it back on after you install this driver.

Hello! I had to change my operating system from Windows 8 to Windows 7 owing to the fact that some programs I need require the latter. Now I cannot connect to WLAN because my laptop doesn't even find a wireless network. With Ethernet cable the connection works fine but that is not a long term solution. Here is the deal. I think the problem is that I'm missing the right driver. I have several times tried to insall the drivers I found from HP Software & Drivers site but none of the WLAN / Wi-Fi drivers won't istall. InstallShield Wizard will though start but after the first "wait, ... is preparing the install" message, or something like that, the window just dissapears and nothing else happens. HP Wireless Assistant tells me that the wireless LAN-adapter is not available because it has been taken off in device manager. I upload here a screen clip of what it looks like in the device manager. When I try to update the Network Controller (the only device with exclamation mark), it cannot find a driver although I'm connected to network.  I also upload a screen clip taken from HP Support Assistant's Network Check, if that is any help. Please, help me with this. I feel like I have tried everything!

A:WLAN problem - driver missing and cannot install one

Hi: There can be one of many different model wlan cards your notebook can have. Please post the hardware ID for the Network Controller device and I will post the link to the wireless driver you need... To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the Network Controller needing drivers. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the Network Controller window. Now you will see a Property drop down list and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 3rd item (hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

First I just want to say thanks. You guys gave me a lot of help on Win 7 when I was having BSODs. This community is a good one, that's for sure.

I keep getting BSODs after building a new PC and installing Win 8. The error I am getting from my Intel event log says: 2000 Error communicating with WLAN device.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the WLAN drivers but am not having any luck. I have found newer driver versions but none of the driver installs take now. Seems like the driver that was installed is now corrupt, or parts of it are lingering. When I uninstall the device and driver from Windows (cause I don't need it), Windows finds it when auto scanning for hardware and then I get another BSOD.

The ethernet device that seems to be having the issue is a Killer e2200 built into my MSi Gaming 5 Motherboard.

Log events attached. I'd be glad to attach anything else that might help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am setting up a new wireless router and new laptop.

The laptop sees the WLAN (name) in Control Panel -> Networking -> Sharing and Network, but this WLAN (name) does not show up in the laptop's 'WLAN selector list' when I click on the network icon that's in the system tray.

I hope my description, above, makes sense. If so, does this problem description suggest an area of configuration that I have done incorrectly?

Thanks for any hints.

A:WLAN in Control Panel but not in system tray WLAN list

The new router needs to be setup with the SSID not hidden. Also the router needs to be set for the same type of wireless that the devices use.

It is also helpful when you post these kind of questions, to include system info in your profile and also manufacture and model of the router.

I have no pcs directly wired to the router.

I am letting the router choose ip addresses.

Ok so here is the problem, a month and a half ago the laptop wouldn't turn on, it goes and gets fixed and the power supply wasn't returned, today we finally receive the power supply (which caused 1 month of the waiting).

So I plug it up and everything goes on fine and dandy, however the laptop will not receive an Internet connection and it says that the wireless LAN is disabled, the laptop is a Presario v6000 Compaq which has a button on the front of the laptop which enables and disabled the wireless LAN, the button is currently set to enabled however the button is jammed on enable and it has an Amber light, so I can't turn it on and off. I went to device manger then network adapters and acording to that, the WLAN is enabled but the laptop is telling me it's disabled!

is there any way I can fix this? or will it have to get sent away again?

I hope the question makes sense, I'm only 16 so I'm not the best when it comes to computers, I also badly need the laptop fixed because I need it for school and I am currently posting this question using my iPhone.

A:Laptop says WLAN is disabled, device manager says WLAN is enabled!

Well, if the button isn't toggling the wireless state, you may have to send it away again. What do you mean the button is "jammed"?

Have you tried the manufacturer site? They usually have drivers. Did it come with a CD? That one should have the drivers.

I've just upgrading my Windows 7 Ultimate to the 64bit version on my Asus Netbook eee PC1201T.
After that it couldnot connect to internet via Wifi. I found out that the WLAN Adapter is missing from the Device Manager. I want to re-installed the WLAN Adapter from the Asus DVD, but it said "We didnot support this Operating System!!!". So I brows the net and from the Asus center I downloaded the driver (Wlan-ANE107H-v2007_1_1002_2009). Some body w the same problem did this and workout, but when I installed it, it brought up same comment. What am I going to do??

Is it because I use the 64bit version? I also notice the Hotkey not working (the Fn, Fn+ F11, Fn + F12 (sound)), is this also related problem ?
And also where can I find the 64bit Driver?

The spec:
Asus eeePC 1201T
Chipset: RS780M
VGA: Mobility Radeon HD3200
The WLAN Adapter: Realtek RTL8191SE Wireless LAN 802.11n PCI-E NIC

Hi! I have a presario 1200us ( Just a 1200us, not a 12xx series) laptop that I've bought a replacement keyboard for, and while I have replaced a presario 1700XL360 keyboard before, this is different and I need help. If some one could help me with a walk through, (W/pictures hopefully.) Or information, I would appreciate it.

A:How do I install a presario 1200us keyboard?

There are 4 screws under the front and one in the top of the battery compartment you will need the right screw driver you can use a flat screw driver if its small enough. Then the front top part below the keyboard will pop off. You will have to pry it a little in the front but it does pop off. Once that is done your key board should lift up in the front and pull out but you will have to unhook the wires. Once the keyboard is out move it so you can get at each side of the wires going to the circuit board and just pry up each side litely and thats it. I have had the same Presario 1200US laptop apart several times and I also need a new keyboard. If you know where to get a good deal on a keyboard let me know.

I am trying to re-format my hard drive with my original HP XP Home SP2 cd. It loads the files and then it shows" windows is starting". Then it goes back to the boot automatically and starts the install again. I have tested the hd with a re-generator and checked the 1GB ram, motherboard. All shows good. my OE cd is sp2 that I am is a 160g Western Digital pata drive. The bios is set to boot from cd first and hdd second. I also swapped out the optical drive to eliminate that possibility. I made a copy of the OS cd and tried that as well. Be advised that I checked the hd integrity with a hard disk re-generator program and it tested ok. I also used mem test 86 and ran it for 30 min with no errors. On this last try, I get this error: "error loading operating system" "press any key to reboot cd." but now it won't even boot my cd software. Now it finally is back to the reboot cycle again. Also, I did a Dariks boot and nuke to get a clean partition. I attached a usb drive adapter to the removed hd and plugged it into an old laptop. I d/l the WD h/d diagnostics file to my flash drive and ran the tests from there...the drive test was successful...I would appreciate any suggestions.

Ok guys, im new here so i hope you can help me to figure this out.

I have been more than 3 days fighting with this an my options now are CERO. My problem:

Im formatting and reinstalling a fresh Windows XP on a Compaq Presario SR1923WM desktop, the first installation process that copies the files to the hard drive its fine, the problem starts when xp starts to install devices, it firstly was stopping at 35 minutes, i tried to find out the problem opening the setupapi.log, then i did erase the .inf causing the trouble and nothing. By the was i was using aXP version.

Then i tried with another disc, this time a Windows XP for HP machines, this times the minutes went down completely, the progress bar reached the 1% and then again showed me one gray screen and the system was hanging again.

Then, i figure out that the initial XP installed on the machine was the Windows XP Media Center Editio 2005, so i tried to install this with an OEM disc and then again it started to hang at 35 minutes.

I have tried other XP disc and nothing happens, i just can't get any OS installed on this PC.

Any help would be so much appreciated!

Sorry for my grammar im not native english speaker.

I recently got a compaq from a friend who didn't use it because it had a problem and I thought I could fix it. Well, when I try to install Windows XP, (the computer doesn't have a Operating System currently installed) it gets as far as loading the file for installing. Then the screen changes to a Blue Screen of Death. I just can't understand it. I've tried to format it differently but it still keeps happening. Also I can't get the Bios screen to come up (pressing F1 right?), and also when I had put the computer together in the beginning I got a NTLDR is missing message, but it doesnt appear anymore.

How many sticks of ram do you have? If 2, take one out and try, and if the install fails switch it with the other.

Make a Memtest86 disk and test your ram.

Do not have anything extra plugged in (USB ports etc) that you don't need to boot.

Hi frnds

I have compaq presario c700 laptop which has windows vista as inbuild OS. Due to many dll issues and corrupted directories , I changed it to windows 7, 3 months back. But my system is very slow and takes too much time. I want to change it to windows xp pro sp3.I learned from the internet that i have to disable sata native support from the BIOS. I did that, but when i try to restart ,the system doesnt ask 'press any key to continue boot....' It just goes blank screen ...nothing happens for hours. I am totally confused ....little help will be very grateful

Hi All,
Before I get started I did search the forums and couldn't find the answers I needed so now I'm posting.

OK, here's my deal....I have a Compaq Presario 5400 US with Celeron 1.2ghz, 512mb RAM, Onboard sound and video, Lite-ON CD-Burner, couple of hard drives, running Windows XP Pro.

I have an old machine that I used to play a lot of games on. Until now I have not played any games but my wife and I are getting back into Diablo II so I need to run a 3d graphics accellerator. I pulled my video cards from my old machine and had the following problems:

#1. ATI Rage Pro 8mb AGP: Installed to AGP slot and rebooted. Computer hangs at "COMPAQ" boot up screen and will go no further. Uninstalled Rage and disabled on-board video in hardware profiles and rebooted with same results. How the heck do I disable on-board video and get the AGP slot active?

#2. Diamond Monster 3D 2 12mb PCI. I installed it into the PCI slot and it was found by XP as a generic device but is no longer supported in the XP environment. No drivers available anywhere. I know I have to buy a new card but I don't want to drop some money on a new card and have my Compaq reject it like the older ATI card I have. I only want to play Diablo II as this machine is not powerful enough for any of the other cool games coming out(DOOM 3) so I need advice picking out a new 3d accelerator card. If it does 3d and 2d I'd be very happy but, and this is a big but, it needs to work in my C... Read more

I'm trying to repair/reformat a laptop. It's a Compaq laptop, Presario CQ40. It originally had Windows XP but started giving a blue screen. I can't get anything to work now. Windows won't boot, all it gives is a registry error (software/hive). When I try to boot from the Windows XP disc, it starts the XP boot load, but right before it gets to XP Recovery Repair screen, it gives another blue screen. It says "Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF7C1E524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). I don't know what to try. Several internet searches have suggested turning the SATA to Legacy in the BIOS, but I have nothing in the BIOS that relates to SATA. I'm stuck. Please help!

A:Compaq Presario CQ40 laptop won't repair or run XP install

Blue screens can be caused y a couple of failing devices; HDD and RAM are most common. Substituting system components with good ones is a cheap way to solve problems like this. It's easiest to start with the system ram and you can easily eliminate the faulty component that way.

Any help is welcome!!

I have purchased a new WD Hard Drive(60 GB) which I wanted to install on my Compaq preasrio (5BW160). This has a CD-ROM Drive and a CD-RW drive. On opening the machine, I found that the available bay beneath the Floppy drive does not accomodate the Hard Drive. And there is no existing place elsewhere to install this hard drive. Could somebody please help out by letting me know as to where this drive needs to be placed. Are there any other precautions which i need to consider?? While searching the Compaq website, found something vague about a railing which needs to be purchased(though I have no idea where from??).

Thanks in advance

A:How do I install second hard drive on Compaq Presario (5BW160)

Hi there Mohan
Try one of the local pc shops for the rails for mounting your new HD.....if they dont have any they might be able to give you some suggestions on how or where to get them.

I had a simular situation on a friends pc (hp with a mini tower) and I was able to use a stacking bracket from an old case that I had and it mounted horizontal just fine ...kinda depends on the room that u have in the case ....some even mount vertically.

just some ideas for you

good luck with it

My son recently did a clean XP install on his presario v5000 and now the wireless is not working at all, even the light isnt working. He is using Realtek rtl8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC as Local Network 2 and it says that a network cable is unplugged. Also has a ? by network adapter and shows that no drivers are installed for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. He has already installed Service Pack 2 and hp's fix for Service Pack 2.

A:Solved: Wireless not working after XP install on Presario V5000

First thing to do is get all the correct drivers installed. If don't have a Driver CD should be able to get them from HP's web site.

"... even the light isnt working"

The wireless light? Assuming you tried switching it on, I would guess it's because the wireless driver is not installed, or the wireless adapter is broken, or the switch is broken or the light is broken.

No Windows 10 install method has worked on my Compaq Presario SR1913WM.My first attempt/preferred method was a clean Win10 32-bit install from ISO burnt to DVD-R (since the SR1913WM's USB ports are not recognized by any Win10 install method [hence I attach a PS/2 keyboard to install]):With "Custom" (aka clean) install I get the error"We couldn't find any drives. To get a storage driver, click Load driver"but when I then select a DVD-R folder full of all the "Vista" driver EXE files for the SR1913WM, (which I figured were a better choice than the only other option, XP drivers) I get the error message "No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, then click OK." (whether or not I check "Hide drivers that aren't compatible with this computer's hardware.").(Is there a way to get the actual driver INF file out of the EXE?  Running them didn't extract any files [whichI could find, anyway], and the old 'change the extension to ZIP' trick didn't work either.)With the "Keep personal files and apps" install, it told me to run setup from the inside 8.1, however that also results in an error message whether from the DVD-R or the Win10 Upgrade Microsoft's popup *offered* (I hear that's a good sign) in the OS, specifically either:1.  "The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Greetings --

I am trying to upgrade a Compaq Presario V6000 laptop from 32-bit XP Pro SP3 to 64-bit Windows 8 Pro. This machine has an AMD Turion 64-bit CPU, ample RAM and HDD capacity. I am installing from the System Builder DVD.

Unfortunately the install is failing. After grinding away on the DVD for a very long time, finally I get the following message in a Windows 8-looking graphic:

"There was a problem with a device connected to your PC

"An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

"Error code: 0xc00000e9

"This problem can happen when a removable storage device is removed while it's in use or is failing. Properly connecting any removable storage and restarting your PC may fix this problem.

"Press Enter to try again

"Press F8 for Startup Settings"

There are no removable storage devices connected to the laptop. Neither of the 2 suggestions works, they just result in more grinding in the DVD drive and a return to the same error screen.

I just got through doing a successful install on a Presario V6700, which was also running 32-bit XP Pro SP3 previously. As far as I can tell the main difference between the two machines is that the good one has an Intel CPU and the problem one has an AMD Turion64 CPU. Both CPU's are 64-bit.

Letting XP complete boot-up and running the install DVD from Windows is not an option, since I'm trying to migrate from 32-bit to 64-bit and the OS won't allow it.

The BIOS allows booting from a USB ... Read more

Point 1, often the ventilator doesn't work, and the computer overheats and then freezes. Are there any solutions to this?

So we set of. Ill describe the process. Take note of the ventilator. Mostly when it froze that was the cause, so i wont mention that every time.

Take 2: It stops on the 34 min mark of win install.
Reboot: we get past and windows installs.

When trying to boot, it hangs on the Logo screen. The progress bar stops briefly now and then, and then appearantly not activity.

Reboot: Choose start windows normally. Same problem
Reboot: Last known good configuration -> boots up smooth and reasonalbly fast.

This booting problem is consistent. I havent tried safe mode yet. But we only get past when choosing last good config.

Hello, all.

I am trying to install an ATI Rage 128 Pro 32MB PCI video card in my old Compaq Presario 7594 Desktop with onboard video running Win98. I have tried installing the card and the drivers and deleting the old drivers in just about every possible combination. Here's the problem - when the card is installed, I get no video on the monitor at all, even when the monitor is connected to the onboard video connector. The only setting in the BIOS that seems to have anything to do with video is under Advanced>PCI Devices>[Onboard] VGA. The default setting here seems to be "Disabled," but the only user-selectable settings are IRQ 3, 5, or 11.

The ATI driver installation program will not complete the install if the card is not in the slot, so I have installed the generic PCI Display Adapter driver, still with no luck.

I want to get this @!$% card installed so my son can play his sim games on this machine instead of my VAIO laptop.

Any suggestions?

O.K. When visiting my little sister this last Christmas, I attempted to upgrade her computer from 98 to XP proffesional, everything went smooth for a couple of days, till the computer contracted the Blaster worm, a few hours before I was suppsed to fly home, and all my work got scrapped. Since then, she has maxed the ram to 512 mb, and bought a new hard drive, western digital 120gb that she would like to use. As we are in different parts of the country, I am guiding her through all setup instructions over the phone...
We got the hard drive installed, and the new ram, and powered up the pc. It detected the ram, and moved to a screen that said operating system not detected. Here, I instructed her to insert the XP proffesional disk into the drive and reboot the computer. Then we get a screen that says the following, I am typing what she is telling me, not what I am looking at:

INF file TXT7 Setup.FIF is corrupt or missing
Status 40847
Setup cannot continue

I tried to boot using the XP boot disks 3.5 inch, but for some reason, her 3.5 inch drive is no longer recognized by the computer. We entered the bios, and it only references the cd-rom, and the hard drive in the boot sequence.

What can I do here? What has been done wrong? Any advice is appreciated since I pretty much killed my sisters computer this summer, when I attempted the upgrade and got the virus. Thanks in advance.

A:New hard drive, compaq presario 7470, can't install operating system?

If i understand this one right . the floppy disk is inside the computer but not recoqnized ? If that is the case, you'll need to recheck the connections (IDE and power ). It's very possible that you knocked one of them out in the process of installing the new HDD.
Now when it comes to the setup of windows XP , does the setup routine offers to "format " the hdd. It should since it's a brand new virgin hdd. At that point you need to let windows XP format the drive ( as in don't skip this step)
On the other hand if you haven't got that far into the setup routine, then you'll need to make the floppy drive functional first then use the WD floppy disk ( which should have came with the drive , if the drives was "retail bought") to check and see if there are any problems and also will help in setting up the XP

Major network problems

Been scouring the web for the NativeWifi Filter drivers for windows 7

Cannot start my WLAN Auto Config Service due to NativeWifi Filter not installed/unable to start

It keeps giving me an error saying that it doesn't exist so I restarted and now it's not even listed in the non plug-and-play section in device manager with hidden devices shown

had no problem starting up NDIS Usermode I/O Portal as per advice in other threads where it is stated to start BOTH NDIS Usermode etc. AND NativeWifi Filter

But mine has somehow disappeared from the list and would not start before that point

It was a code 24 IIRC "The device is not present, is nor not working properly or does not have all its drivers installed" - pulled that from another service that does not work

Qos Packet Scheduler is also not functioning (where I got the error from which is the same as I WAS getting with NativeWifi Filter)

If anyone has the drivers to either of these that would be greatly appreciated as I cannot use the net on my computer, so am using my brothers for anything internet related atm

Cheers =)

I have a DLink DIR 615 hard-wired to my NAS drive and I connect to my home network through WLAN. The questions I have is - why is the download from my network drive slower than download speed from the web.

For tests, I initiated a download of 1G+ file from Oracle website and it took me < 15 mins. But when I tried to download the file from my NAS drive, it took me almost 1Hr.

Wondering why such a difference and if it can be fixed/tweaked.

Thanks in advance,

A:WLAN intranet dnld vs WLAN internet dnld

Perhaps your NAS is simply slower at moving data out. Maybe you could try connecting with a wire to your DIR 615, effectively making it a switch, and seeing if that affects the transfer speed from your NAS. Or, even better, try a different Ethernet switch, with just your NAS and one computer hooked together. If you still get slow tranfer speeds, then probably either your NAS doesn't support any higher speeds or there is a setting in it that needs changed. If you do this and the transfers go more quickly, then it is probably some setting in your DIR 615 that is causing problems. Or maybe other users were using up bandwidth at the same time.

I have had a Linksys BEFSR41 home LAN for several years. It worked right out of the box, and has never given me any problems. I wanted to add a WAP so that I can work and access the Internet from my new air-conditioned backyard shed office.

I started to set up a brand new Linksys WAP54G about a year ago, but could never get the thing to work wirelessly once I enabled WEP. Then other events overcame the need to get that done and I let it sit for about a year. I know my laptop wireless card works at airports, Borders, Starbucks, and at work. The problem was in the WAP.

I just tried again last night to get the WAP working, and now I'm unable to access the WAP either through the Setup software (it can't find a WAP on my network), or through the web interface at the default IP of

The WAP is plugged into the uplink port on my router, and the shared port 1 is empty. I've tried swapping out the cable between the WAP and router (several different ones). I've tried resetting the box for 30 seconds. I've cycled power to it several times. I turned off ZoneAlarm on my PC. I've spent hours searching the Internet and reading various reviews, forum, and tips pages with no joy.

I'm about ready to junk the thing since it has never really worked right, and is no longer under warranty. Just wonder if I've someone can see anything I've missed.

Hello All.

I'd like to save on cost and try to connect the two areas through a wireless connection. I have a WRT-54GL from a while ago. Is there a way to bridge this thing to the FIOS router in the basement? Ultimately, I want this WRT to act as a hub/switch for the ethernet devices and route the data to/from the FIOS router using wireless.

How would one go about this? I saw some information that said its doable with DD-WRT but I wanted to see what information I could get here first.

DD-WRT is probably the way to use that router for a wireless bridge, it won't do it with the native firmware.

I am on a boat near a club which provides 802.11g access to their LAN via a Linksys WAP54g>amplifier>external antenna. Aboard the boat, I have an external antenna<amplifier<Linksys WET54g<Linksys WRT54GP2. The system on my boat was installed by a friend of a friend.

I can often connect to the club's WLAN, but the operation of this system is awkward. In terms of challenge, this is way more complicated than just having a high output wifi card plugged into my laptop with a pigtail to the external antenna. On the other hand, I am getting nearly 100% connection quality much of the time, and I no longer have to deal with so many cables on the laptop.

Specifically I have some questions about the setup and configuration of this system. I have made some screen captures of configuration panes on the laptop and wonder if I might be able to entice someone to review them. This setup is not something you'd see all the time, I'd imagine. I could also take some screen caps of the Linksys WET54G and WRT54GP2 to share.

I am a novice to networking and it may be just some elementary oversight that is making this configuration more complicated than it needs to be. I would really appreciate if I could make contact with someone on this forum who is open to considering this setup so I can email a system diagram and screen caps.

I read somewhere on this thread that someone wanted to see the results of ipconfig /all > c:/results.txt. Here is what I get from that:

Hi: What is the model # of it? Also, please post the hardware ID for the device. To find the hardware ID, go to the device manager and click on the 802.11n device needing the driver. Then click on the Details tab at the top of the device window. Now you will see a Property drop down list, and it will be set to Device Description. Drop down on that list and select the 2nd item (Hardware ID's). Post the top string of characters that you see in the window.

Sorry to interrupt this thread but I have a very similar problem and thought I'd share my experience.

I am trying to set my parents up with access to a wireless signal near them. I can successfully connect to this with my laptop and decided to purchase a WET54G bridge to enable their PC to connect - the PC cannot connect wirelessly as the signal is too weak in their lounge. I have placed the nridge in the loft and have it connected to a directional external antenna. I have a 15m Ethernet cable leading from the bridge to the PC. All three LEDs on the bridge are lit - I believe this indicates power supply, ethernet connection and that the bridge is connected to the wireless network.

The problem is at the PC end, I think! The connection has 'Limited or no connectivity'. I also can't access the web config of the bridge via the ethernet connection. The web config page is only available when actually connected to the wireless network - same problem Wirelessboat is having. I don't understand why I can't access this config page when directly connected via the ethernet cable. Do I need to give the PC a static IP? I have tried giving the bridge a static IP of but it is not accessible through the web browser.

Linksys technical support were useless! Any help much appreciated and sorry again for butting in on Wirelessboat

I really hope someone might be able to help me. My HP pavilion dv2500 crapped out on me so I had the motherboard replaced. I found supplier in China who got it to me and service here in Hungary. After waiting 1 month to get my laptop back I was in a bit of a rush to get back to work and the WLAN/bluetooth was apparently no working as I left the shop. Thinking I might be able to find the correct driver myself I went back to the office and when I started up the WLAN was actually working...YEAH!

Last week I restarted my laptop, which I now realize, was the first time since leaving the service center 3 weeks ago and they WLAN/BT has stopped working. I have tried several different drivers, all to no luck, and read tons of forum postings, still nothing.

The HP Wireless Assistant says the WLAN/BT are not enabled. I am using Vista. There is no option in the BIOS to turn it on (PhoenixBios). The serial of the laptop is GN169AV Pavillion. Is there anyone who might be able to clue me in so I don't need to wait an additional 3 days at the shop?

Thanks for whatever help.

For a few days now I haven't been able to connect to the internet on my ASUS G60JX. I've tried a couple different things to resolve the problem but none seem to work. It all comes down to the fact that my WLAN won't turn on. It doesn't matter if the switch is to the left (off) or to the right (on), the WLAN always appears as "off" and I can't connect to the internet. So, I've tried a few things already, all of which failed but I feel like I've made a little progress. So I'll try to explain what I've done since it stopped working 2 days ago.

Two days ago, the internet went out for a moment due to a power flicker (we were getting them all night and I was reconnecting fine for the most part) but when I went to reconnect after a few minutes, I noticed that it said "No Networks Available". I thought it was the router so I went and unplugged it for a few minutes but it turned out that it wasn't the problem because I could connect on other computers and my ipod.

Yesterday, after checking the WLAN switch on the front of my laptop and noticing that the WLAN wouldn't turn on no matter which way I had the switch, I checked the Device Manager to see if everything was working properly and I noticed that my Network Adapter (Atheros AR9285) was disabled (I did not disable it manually), so I enabled it thinking that was the extent of my problems, but unfortunately I still couldn't connect. The device appears to... Read more

My adaptor will no longer connect to my network and I get the display that it cannot find a certificate to connect.
It cannot be the network or modem as I can connect my laptop wirelessly on my Windows 7 platform.
I have tried the on board repair program without success.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Have you change the router or security on the router at all ?

you may have the IEEE 802.1x authentication set

Hold the Windows key and press Pause key, should open to allow device manager to be seen, see the menu on the left hand side

on a laptop you may need to use Hold the Windows key and press FN key + the pause key

If the above does not work then

Start > control Panel > system > hardware Tab >device manager button

Once you are in device manager then navigate to:

network adaptors, click on the + > Right-click your Connection and select Properties --> Click on the Authentication tab --> Disable / uncheck the option IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network.
re start the PC
Now, connect to your Wireless network;

This is the situation:

I have two desktops using 98 and ME connected via lan (crossover cable) - name: WORKGROUP.

I also have two other workstations using XP and 98 connected via LAN with a hub and router to access internet via ADSL - name: OTHER

I have set up an Access Point to link the two different workgroups and all the devices are configured with the same group of TCP/IP addresses(obviously everyone unique), Subnet Mask, DNS and gateway.

The access point is connected to the hub of the "OTHER" workgroup, and it communicates with a wireless NIC inserted into the WIN ME workstation belonging to "WORKGROUP".

This WIN ME workstation, thus, is using two different TCP/IP addresses: one for the NIC and one for the wireless NIC.

The problem is that when I succeed in connecting it to the access point, it loses connection with the other Win 98 machine within the "WORKGROUP" LAN and, obviously, it loses connection with the access point if I try to fix it up.

It seems the two connections cannot work at one time, but the work fine singularely.

That sounds strange to me.

Consider that the aim of all this is not to make the two workgroups share file or printers, but simply to get all to Internet through the router.

Does the fact that we have only one group of TCP IP addresses and two workgroups create issues?

Or the problem is that the Win ME workstation is not able to bridge connections through its two NICS (maybe due to limitations of the oper... Read more

I am using Win7 on my laptop. In my home i have both WLAN and LAN connectivity. Initially most of the time i connect to WLAN, but when i want to copy a folder or download some thing i switch to Wired LAN.

The problem is when ever i switch from WLAN to LAN..and switch off the Wireless, the internet takes some time to be active from LAN. and once its active, i can browse for like 5 mins until again it becomes inactive and this process repeats again and again.

During the whole above scenario, if i simulate XP on Vmware,i am able to browse easily(in brigde mode) while on Win7 there is no Internet Connectivity. One more thing is that P2P (torrents)works fine all the way even when browser internet is not working.

I want to know if there is any tool/service that can be restarted to over come the issue? i get two different IP's from DHCP for WLAN and LAN. I have to restart the laptop to overcome the issue :S

A:Switching between WLAN and LAN

With my laptop, if I'm connected with the wireless as soon as I plug in the wired connection it takes over as the internet connection and uses wired only, no need to disable the wireless connection for me anyway. As soon as I unplug the wired connection the wireless connection works again without me having to do anything.

When I do this, in the network and sharing center it says multiple networks and shows both connections but the wired one takes over the connection automatically.

So my advice would be to not bother switching off the wireless because as soon as you plug in the wired connection Windows 7 should be using it and when you unplug the wire the wireless should be working.

If you have a router, you need to setup a wireless network first.

Start the WLan AutoConfig service so your W7 can use wireless (amek sure your laptop wireless switch is also switched ON). Once started, W7 will automatically search and detect your wireless network (SSID). You need to log onto this network.

Do the same for the Xp machine.

Hi last night my windows vista home premium updated itself and installed some updates.

Since then I haven't been able to connect to my home network from the lan nic.
I have been able to connect from the problematic computer via its wireless nic.
now I cannot connect through the wireless card either.

I am writing this post from another laptop that is able to connect to the network both through its wireless and its wired nics.

I have shut down the router and unplugged all cables then rebooted. From the working computer command prompt I typed ipconfig/release then followed by an ipconfig/renew cmd - routers dhcp works.

now for the stuff I just don't get

on the vista home premium machine i used system restore to undo windows updates. Still no change regarding wired lan connectivity.

I then did a search on the web and found that rebuilding and resetting the windows sockets and the tcp/ip stack was recommended. I used the netsh command to do this and then rebooted.

Now I cannot connect to wired nor the wireless connections from the vista machine.

Both wired and wireless networks are described by vista as limited connectivity. Both have appipa addresses - though I know that the router is giving out dhcp. I then restarted the vista dhcp client service. Still the same problem.

I then tried static ip configuration. Vista responds with the same answer limited connectivity.

when I run cmd prompt (as administrator) and run ipconfig /renew i get ... Read more

Could it be that my WLAN card is broken or something?

The first thing that I would look at is your wireless router. Go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest upgrade to the router's firmware. Install that on the router and see if that fixes your problem.

Ive disabled the firewall on all machines as I have a WRV200 Linksys business class router. If I restart all machines I can temporarily see all machines from all others. If I keep hitting refresh eventually the network nodes will disappear then reappear. The wireless signal on all nodes (all are wireless) is perfect & does not drop. No interference from outside at all, no other networks for miles. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Upon completion of installation of 7 it is set that you must manually install drivers for the air pace wifi card with the Atheros drivers within windows 7... they work well but there is another problem.....
after sending windows to sleep mode and then waking the pc up the Airpace card is no longer detected....
it is no longer listed in Device Manager and can not be recovered by means of scanning for hardware changes.... the device just is not there any more!
To get the device back and listed again i have to make a system restart

I have tried everything i can think of but uninstalling and reinstalling drivers but only with the same resulted, i have even unchecked allow this device to put into sleep mode but without success

Now while experimenting with the card and drivers i have also noted that there is no Ethernet device.... "nothing" no restart fix the device just does not exist according to window... both Ethernet LAN devices are present and enabled in BIOS but windows not not detect such devices
This now leads me on to the fact that there are many other devices related to my chip-set that are not being detected

OK, it seems that the Airpace wifi card was conflicting with the on-board Ethernet..... i removed the wifi card and windows then detected both Ethernet ports and SMbus
Now the only problem i have is with the wifi card, it seems to be detected as an Ethernet card rather than a wifi card which brings the problem with detection on boot and return from sleep mode
As far as i can understand it detects the wifi card as a removable device or something similar as windows makes the "Device Disconnect" then "Device Connect" sounds wich i find odd since it permanat device connected via PCI-e mini port
I can use several Atheros drivers and or a unofficial Abit driver but the device still acts the same way
It is starting to bug and annoy me even though its a trivial problem so i hope someone can help

Hi Folks,

I have a similar problem with my wireless connection.
I connect to WLAN quite comfortably.

I have recently acquired a new IBM T43 laptop, which I have formatted and loaded Win XP Service Pack 2, and I am trying to connect to the
same WLAN but when I locate my network and give my network id, it says
"network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexa decimal characters"

My network key starts like SP-1123E and so on a total of 12 characters.
I am told by my ISP guy that the encryption in my router is WPA.
He suggests I could change my encryption to WEP which I dont want to.

How do I connect this new laptop to the network? Any ideas?
Do you think I need to manually convert this to a hexa decimal number?
In that case how to convert a minus sign??

Ive been breaking my head since long time, plssss help!!!
Thanks guys in advance.

can we see the following
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

It worked fine for about a week and then it quit and never

change. I reinstalled the driver (R138747.exe), no help. I
reinstalled WindowsXP, still no help.

Dell seems about out of ideas.

No, it's not the router. I use the router every day
with several other computers, It runs fine.

So it's beginning to feel like I just bought

I can think of one possible reason for the problem,
but I don't know if I'm right. The other computers

Welcome to Tech Guy Forum, kingm.

Which version of Windows are you running? Please include subtype [ XP Home, Vista Ultimate, for example ].

In dev mgr, do you have "other devices" or "unknown devices"
If so, if there is a "-" to left, please provide that which is displayed.

If there is a "+", please left click on the "+" , then provide that which is displayed.

Be prepared to contact Toshiba if you cannot find your invoice, with list of components.
