Screensaver is enabled and so is 'Display welcome screen when coming back from screensaver'.

This works most of the time, however on a regular basis the screensaver will resume to the following screen and just stay there forever.

The only thing to do is to press the power button, at which point a popup alerts that a user is logged in, do you still want to shut down.

I need help ASAP. My computer was having many issues today, so I did a system restore. When it was done, it downloaded updates, I only restored it back to yesterday. Now, when I log into my account, the screen stays black and all I see is the pointer. What can I do to solve this? The PC is shut down right now.

A:Solved: Screen is black after system restore and update. Set back one day, screen is

Usually, system restore is used to resolve problems like this. You might want to consider doing a clean install and see if that has any affect. Hopefully your data is saved on an external or flash drive. There's also additional options that you can find here:

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. Everytime or almost everytime I click on an app or go to the desktop and try to get on IE 10 (desktop version), my screen flashes and goes black for a few seconds then returns me to the screen with the space needle, then I click on it and it signs me back in. When I try to use Google Chrome, the websites freeze up on me. I don't want to have to reinstall/reformat as I paid $40 for this for one, and secondly, I don't want to have to repurchase Office 2010 as my licenses ran out. Please help. I ran every update that comes up and restart, but this doesn't change this issue. I'm hoping there will be a patch or service pack or some update that will fix this. Any ideas why it does this and any way to fix it without reformatting?

A:Windows 8 Pro, screen goes black and back to lock screen

I had the same problem at first. Then one day the listing of all my apps disappeared. I did a refresh and lost a lot of programs but the files were still there. Then I noticed that the problem with the apps had fixed itself and they worked. My feeling is that the initial install wasn't complete and the refresh completed the install. Recently, after loading my Epson printer's CD, the apps once again disappeared. Had to do a system restore. Now I am having trouble with my screen just being black and not coming on at all...even after a reboot. Win8 has a lot of problems.

Hi. I have a brand new laptop (HP Envy 17) with Windows 7 Home Premium. Sometimes, when I come out of Hibernation mode (especially a long-duration Hibernation), I get a black screen that does not go away without me putting the computer into Sleep mode first. The sequence of events goes like this:

1. The "HP" logo appears after I hit the power switch to turn on the computer.
2. The message "Resuming Windows" appears.
3. A black screen appears briefly with a blinking cursor in the upper-left hand corner.
4. The screen goes completely black (a "truer" black than the one from step 3).
5. I can get rid of this black screen by shutting the lid of my laptop (which sends it into Sleep mode), and then lifting the lid this case the screen appears which allows me to click my username to access the desktop.

NOTE: When coming out of Hibernation, there are times when the black screen from step 4 lasts only a few seconds...but the fact that sometimes it lasts permanently (without my intervention) bothers me.

Can someone please help me resolve this?

Hi people, i've just registered to this forum to ask you about this, Since i've made a registry defrag with TuneUp Utilities (which probably has gone wrong), when i reset the computer, and I logon to my user, it shows a black screen, then back at the logon screen. If I do it again, the user doesn't show up anymore!
It happened three times already, i had to make new users, and i'm sick of it. Any ideas of what could it be?

A:Black screen after login for some seconds, then back at logon screen!

Yet another case of registry defraggers causing harm. In the future, you know now to stay far away from them.

I suggest a system restore to get to a point before TuneUp utilities. If that doesn't work, it will be time for a repair install.

Good luck!

Hi all,

I have Win7 Ultimate x64 installed on an brand new HP Pavilion s5-1205z Slimline desktop.

When I am reading an email or document the screen will just suddenly flash to a black screen for a second. Sometimes it does this several times in a row, and other times just once or twice. It is random and does not matter what program I am in, if I am browsing, playing a video on-line, or typing. I have installed Java and done as much troubleshooting as I can and can't find anything that relates to that kind of behavior at all in the Help Files or FAQ's.

Any suggestions of where I might look to see if I need to check or uncheck something, and what, would be very much appreciated.

A:PC screen suddenly flashes to a black screen and back

Combining the info that you posted here with the info in this thread - I gotta wonder if someone is able to remote into your computer. If you are not too far along in setting up your computer, you might want to consider a clean install without all of the bloatware.

Unless you have a specific need for Java - uninstall it. If you need it, then it might be worth the security risk of having it installed. If you don't need it - then why risk having it installed?

I recently ran the auto upgrade to 10 from 7 and when my computer boots up I see the windows icon with the spinning dots underneath and then my screen says "not supported". After a few minutes the tv says "no signal". That makes me think that it is getting a signal from the computer that is simply not compatible until the screen saver kicks in and it gets "no signal". If i wiggle the mouse after the "no signal" appears on the tv it flickers and then says "not supported" again.
I am using a Lenovo q150 that runs to my MAG tv via hdmi. I do not have another monitor to plug into although I am bringing home a monitor cord to connect to my tv in hopes that it will work.
If it does... what setting should I be looking for to make the tv/display work through the hdmi? I use this as a home theater setup and have all my kids movies running on it. It has worked great until now and I am regretting upgrading to 10.
Thanks for any help.

Hello, I'll go ahead and start from the very beginning. Thanks in advance though for taking a look at my problem.

About a month ago, my computer would give me a few problems while booting up. I would start the computer, it would run through BIOS, run through the Windows loading screen, and after that it would run the CHKDSK to make sure my disks are fine. CHKDSK doesn't work, it just freezes right before checking the disks, so I restart and generally it will boot up. Most of the time it would boot up perfectly, but rarely would it go to the xp loading screen and then flicker as if it as going to go to the windows login screen but wouldn't. The screen would just stay black and I'd have to restart. Next time, generally it would work perfect.

So this brings me to the current day. After the windows xp loading screen, it goes black. The computer is on, but I don't see any activity for the HDD via the LED. SO i go into safe mode, i finally get CHKDSK to run, I had to really mess with some stuff to get that working. Windows says the volume is fine, and the only way I can boot my PC is in safe mode, but even that will freeze sometimes while loading some of the files.

Just to let you know I'm running Raid0, and this is my first time running it. I'm not sure if this symptom is a common problem if one of the disks are going out. Does anyone know whats going on? Could it be a virus that messed with a boot.ini or any startup stuff? also, is there anyw... Read more

Hi Folks,

First time noob here, thanks in advance for your patience and expertise. It's been awhile, so if you need additional information, I'll be more than happy to get it for you in a timely manner. Again, thanks.

OMG! Some really peculiar things have been happening, in addition to your average no-boot situation. Here's the story:

First, some specs:

HP a1410n
Came with XP, upgraded to Win 7 (64 bit, I think?)
nVidia graphic card
Ram, I believe is 4 GB (I upgraded)
Processor: Athlon 64 (V) 3800+ 2.4 GHz
HD: 200 GB, I have an old one slaved in, and I have an external drive as well

A couple weeks ago (got discouraged and busy at the same time, so this is my first real attempt at fixing it), I was doing some things on the computer with my mom, when I unplugged the wireless keyboard from the USB. Big mistake, because I actually have done that before, and had to reboot, and baby it in order to get squared away and back to original running condition.

Anyway, as soon as I pulled that USB, the screen froze. Usually I just reboot, but this time, it didn't happen. So, I tried unplugging everything and doing the whole reboot thing, to no avail.

Today, I spoke with a friend, who suggested I do a disk boot. I had the disk and tried it.

The weirdest thing happened - first, the computer wouldn't recognize the keyboard (wired by now), and I unplugged, restarted, plugged in, restarted, etc. I was finally able to get to the "Boot from cd/dvd?" an... Read more

A:Win 7 Does Not Boot - HP Screen, into Black Screen with CP, and Back

So here's the deal, starting from the beginning!
Note: I've been away for about a year, and I just got back today.

I'm pretty psyched about Starcraft 2, so I tried to install it a couple hours ago. The software failed to connect to the Internet to validate the installation. At the suggestion of a member of another forum, I ran ComboFix.exe. It totally fixed the problem.

I could have stopped there, but I was a little greedy. I then installed 87 Windows Updates on my computer, up to but not including XP Service Pack 3. I did this because SC II more or less asked me to.

I restarted upon completion and the problem began. After the Windows loading screen, the screen becomes black. Shortly afterward, there is no more input to the monitor (it turns off). I hear a beep every 40 seconds from my computer, but nothing else. This continues until I restart.

Safe Mode and Last Known Configuration do not work. I have the Recovery Console installed, but I don't know what to do with that. Unfortunately I disabled System Restore quite a while ago to save space.

I am fairly certain the culprit is these Windows updates. What I would ideally like to do is, well, uninstall them. I don't know how to navigate the text workspace of the Recovery Console, though... and I don't even know if it can be done.

I'd really appreciate any help at all. It's so unfortunate that my computer worked great after a year of sitting idle, and then I went and messed it up in an hour!

A:[SOLVED] Black screen after Windows loading screen

Use an XP Installation Disk to run chkdsk, and hope your problem is HD errors.

If Safe Mode, Last known good configuration and System Restore are all not working, the only thing left is a Repair Installation.

Do you have a XP Installation disk ?

A:login screen keeps coming back again and again

Hi there asadhu...

Have you tried an alternative browser such as Opera/Firefox? Does the same happen with them?

Also, if you go to your Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Programs tab -> Reset Web Settings (remove tick from Homepage reset otherwise it will revert to default) -> Yes -> OK. -> Advanced tab -> Restore defaults -> Apply/OK.

Then clear your cookies/temporary internet files and history and relaunch IE and try again.

Hi. New to the forum, bit not to tek toys.
I have recently set my PC from 8.1 to the free 10 upgrade offer.
Everything's fine, 'Except' down in the bottom right hand corner a message keeps coming up.... "Activate Windows. Go to settings to activate Windows."
I have gone to settings now, 5 times, & through the whole upgrade procedure 5 times too, including several system restores. Each time I get an on-screen message telling me everything's done, 10 is now fired up & running etc. The 'Activate' message disappears, everything's fine for a week or 2, then I switch the PC on & the message has come back again.
Anyone got any ideas? Thanx.

In an elevated ("run as administrator") command prompt, please run:

slmgr /dlv

Post the result window back as a screenshot. There won't be any uniquely identifying information on it so you don't have to blank anything out. Basically we are looking for anything on that result that says "KMS". If it does contain KMS that would be your problem, but there is other info in there that might point to the problem. What you want to see in the results is "RETAIL" activation channel.

I have had my HP Omen for the past year and over time the hinge at the back seems to be coming further apart from the back. If I push the screen back down at the back it will move back into place but will then immediately move apart again. Considering the price of this laptop I expect to have it for at least another 1-2 years and at this rate, I am afraid that the situation with the hinge will continuously get worse.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

I'm posting this on behalf of someone else, since she can't access her computer because of the following problem:

This person's running Windows XP SP2, and only has one user account without a password. Hence, her computer would automatically boot up to Windows without having to select a user account, etc. However, this morning, the "Welcome" screen came up for the first time ever so I told her to click on her username, which she did. Her desktop wallpaper appeared, as if Windows was starting up, but the "Welcome" screen came back right after. She also tried to click the "Reboot" button at the Welcome screen, to no avail (the computer would reboot and show the same Welcome screen).

Does anyone know what can be causing this? As far as I know, she hasn't installed anything yesterday before turning off her computer.

Thanks enormously in advance.

The screen stays black, The hard-drive led indicator stays off and the hard drive does not spin up. I have tried to reseat the memory and reseat the hard-drive. I have pulled the battery and held the power button without the the ac adapter hooked up for 60 secs, still nothing, hooked up to external monitor and still nothing. Any tips to try to figure this out?

A:Labtop not coming on screen stays black

First of all, its a LAPtop, not a LABtop, and secondly, I believe the problem could be the motherboard, although Im not sure because many things can cause something like this. Try some different memory in it, that would be the easiest option and if that doesnt work, it is most likely the video card. And the video card is very difficult to replace on laptops.

Check your monitor cable, give it a little wiggle and see if that affects the tint. The fact that it didn't show up on a screenshot means that it is just the monitor, not the system itself.

Greetings all, so lately I've been having some problems with my Dell Vostro A860 that runs Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bit service pack 2. Anyway recently I've been having problems with my laptop. I often leave my laptop on while I'm around the house doing things, mainly it's downloading or running a virus check, but when I return the screen is off (which is good, I set my screen to turn off after a few minutes) but when I try to get the screen to turn on again by pressing a key on the keyboard or clicking the touchpad or moving it nothing happens. I can't get the screen to turn back on and so I am forced to hard reset my laptop which I really don't like to do. When I start up the computer again it works fine but I notice that not much of my downloads or scan have been completed like the computer froze pretty early on.

At first I thought it was a virus or something so I posted on the appropriate forums on here, here is the link to that topic:

Unfortunately it appears that this isn't the problem so now I'm here trying to find help to resolve this issue. I hope someone out there knows the cause of this problem and a way I can fix it. Thanks in advance!

So, I'm pretty tech savvy.. I feel embarrassed to have to come here as I usually solve my problems with a little TLC and Google. My monitor will go black for a second, come back, go black, come back. It can do this at random intervals, when my PC is idle, when I'm in-game, when I'm browsing the web. It's not such a massive problem because the screen comes back. But sometimes (quite often, actually) my PC just hangs and automatically restarts. My Graphics drivers are up to date, Chipsets are up to date, Bios is up to date, Every driver on my PC is up to date and fully updated via windows update.

I checked event viewer and I'm getting event 41 kernel-power error. I'm under suspicion that it's my cheap PSU causing the issue but it's so sudden and it's worrying me that it could potentially be my GPU or my RAM.

TLDR; Screen goes back and comes back, when under load pc hangs and restarts, event 41 kernel-power error.

CPU: AMD FX-6350
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 750 TI SC
Ram: 8GB DDR3 @ 1666 Mhz, 4gb kingston hyperx 1866, 4gb corsair vengeance 1666, both are locked to 1666 via bios so they work fluidly together
Operating system: Windows 10
Motherboard: MSI 760gm-P23(FX)

I'm not sure if there's any information I'm missing but as I use my PC to work I'm sort of in a rush to get this annoying little problem resolved. I would post the entire event viewer log but I'm unsure on how to do that. I really need help here. Thanks for taking the time. If you know how to copy t... Read more

Hello, I have a dell latitude 6430u with windows 8 pro.
I have a very strange and very annoying problem - the screen seemingly randomly goes black with no cursor, anywhere in windows and then comes back again. Sometimes it remains black for just a second sometimes for twenty seconds. And it may continue going back and forth for up to maybe 5 times or more.
The computer is brand new (two weeks old). A this started about a week ago. But in the beginning it didn't go black randomly, but rather changed resolution randomly. I tried updating the graphics drivers and other drivers and maybe that caused the newer problem.
I would be grateful for any help,

A:The Black screen of doom is back!

Hi there, You said you were trying to install Windows 7 but which version are you trying to install. As you mentioned XP install fine, is it possible to access safe mode when this black screen is displayed, restart your machine and keep pressing f8, then from the menu choose safe mode. This way we can rule the graphics card as the culprit.

The other thing I can thing of is that the driver your installing on XP, needs to be XP driver and I am sure you have probably done this already but it is good to check. You could try also installing an older version if provided on the graphics card manufcaturer.

I would personall run a test on the hard drive, I would start with a check disk which can be done using safemode + cmd , the recover console or a live CD. This way we can test the Hard Drive for errors. The live cd I would recommend is which provides many Hard drive testing.

I know the memory you have is new so I cannot say that you need to test it, however try the install with lesser RAM. I can't technically explain how in any way this will do anything, however when your troubleshooting you have to do many things.

So obviously I didn't really solve the problem because the reasons I thought it was happening before are not occurring this time at all.

Here is the original thread with the "solution":

So now I actually have a fresh install of Windows XP. Speedfan says my temps are all around 57C and after a reboot, Supreme Commander crashes my PC around 45 seconds into a map. Screen goes black, fans spin up, sound glitches out, etc. Upon rebooting immediately the temp is still 57C. If my processor or GPU were overheating so much that my PC crashed I'd think the temp would stay higher longer. I've had my GPU up to 75C and still was able to play games fine and I don't see my PC going from over 75C to 57C from the time it takes me to power off my PC to Windows loading Speedfan.

So here are some new theories...

RAM - I ran DXDiag and it said I have 2048 MB of RAM but after a clean reboot my page file was in use immediately. Maybe I don't know what a page file really is but I thought it took over AFTER the RAM ran out. If this is true does it mean my RAM is bad since the page file is being used as soon as Windows starts? That would explain crashes pretty well.

PSU - It's an older PSU (2 years) so I guess I could see it going bad but aside from gaming I experience no problems whatsoever. I don't really have the money to just go and buy another PSU to see if that was the issu... Read more

Hi everyone.  Sometimes a little knowledge is dangerous.  Here's what happened After an automatic update last night, my Envy 150 notebook screen stopped working.  I was able to connect to an external monitor with no problem.  I figured it was related to the update, so I tried to roll it back but was not successful.  So here's when I did the dumb thing: I thought maybe the monitor would work fine in safe mode, so I went into msconfig and checked the box to boot into safe mode. Well, now the display still doesn't work, but neither does the external monitor.  And I can't figure out how to get it out of safe mode because I can't see what I'm doing with no monitor.  Is there anything I can do to get out of this position? Thanks in advance.

Hi,  My problem is that the screen keeps flashing black, just for a second, and then coming right back. It's not really a problem, but it seems like it's happening with increasing frequency.  The computer is fairly new--less than 6 months old. It's connected to wifi most of the time, I run Opera as a browser, and have a Dropbox account I'm hooked into. I only have about 4gigs free on the hard drive, and the memory (as shown in the task manager) is usually around 85%. I work online, and do have a lot of tabs open at once, so the load can get heavy (that's why I switched to Opera, it was freezing up with Firefox's heavy load). Any insight would be appreciated--I just want to know it's not heading towards a crash! Or if it is, if ther's anything I can do about it. Thanks!

Suddenly after some updates from Microsoft PC doesn't start.

It doesn't appear the login screen just the mouse icon, nothing else.
Tried the recovery console from windows but no luck.

My only solution was the recovery image from Toshiba.
It's the second time already I get this problem.

Everything else works great. Any idea?

Hello again. I am having what I hope is small problem with a PC I just finished buliding.

ASUS P4B Motherboard
512K Kingston SDRAM
ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 7500 Video Card
20 GIG Maxtor Boot Drive
60 GIG Maxtor Storage

I just completed a clean install on Win98 and installed all the latest drivers for the ATI video.

When I have left the PC on for 30 minutes or so, the screen goes black, which I would expect when the monitor is shut down. The problem occurs when I try to bring the screen back up upon return. All I get is a black screen with my movable cursor. The caps lock and numbers lock are unresponsive, which leads me to believe it's locked up. Currently I must reboot to get my desktop back.

Here's one I can't find a solution to. I see black screen problems on install and boot up while checking the NET but not what I have. All of a sudden when I click on Control panel, file explorer, my computer or any system type event I get a black screen. I also get it when using Outlook e-mail. It opens fine but when I close it I get the black screen as well. I then have to bring up task manager and log off again. I tried a system restore and an fsc scannow. Neither help or find the problem. I also am having a problem where I click on Google Chrome at the start menu. It will start, then close, and then bring me to the (conventional looking) desktop. There I can open Chrome and it works fine. This just started as well also. If I log off and then log back in I get my desktop back. Win 8 is new to me so I'm not familiar if there is other tools I can try. I don't believe it's anything to do with my (self built) PC because this was working fine for a few weeks. The problem just started recently. The only new program I installed was Spybot S & D. You would figure that if that was the problem system restore would fix it. AVG has caught potential viruses but I don't believe there is any active on my system. The black screen doesn't show up when I use any of my 3rd party software. I.E. - Power Director, Nero, etc. Any idea's/help is appreciated. I hope you have a great holiday everyone.

A:Black Screen On System Icon Clicks

Hello Larry,What version of Spybot S & D is this ? Is it set to auto-load (start) with Windows ? Might I suggest you insure it is -not- set to auto-start.When things go "black" only get a "black" screen? No other descriptive text?Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here or or any script blocker if your antivirus/antimalware has it.Then RIGHT click dds.scr and select Run as Administrator to start AND respond positively to run it when prompted.DDS will run in a command prompt window and will take 3 to 4 minutes or so.When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt Attach.txtSave both reports to your desktop. Please Copy & Paste contents of the following logs in your next reply:DDS.txtAttach.txt

I was having trouble starting my computer like many other people it seems - it would hang just after the "starting windows" screen appeared. I had a completely black/blank screen, no mouse pointer , nothing. The only way to overcome the issue was by powering down and restarting windows which always seemed to get it running, but very frustrating none the less.
I tried several fixes from this forum without success. Thinking about it though, I realised that my problem only began after I had reinstalled windows (which I had done several times because of faulty memory - everytime I got the same startup problem ). I know that advice from this forum frequently referred to ensuring all drivers were up to date so I checked mine via Device Manager. All showed that they were the latest drivers according to Windows Update. However, I decided to manually reinstall the motherboard drivers from the ASUS website (I had already done so for the chipset) , namely the SATA and LAN drivers. To my delight this seems to have returned my computer to its correct working state with no startup issues.
Just thought I would post this info in case it is of use to anyone trying to overcome a similar problem.

I've been working on a dell inspiron 1525 today and cant figure what is causing this problem.

The laptop boots, displays the post screen, and then the screen goes black.
You can boot into BIOS,
You can boot into the Boot menu.

You cannot boot into safe mode, the f8 key does nothing,
when using the boot menu, u can't boot into a windows disc to reload the operating system, it just goes black.
I did however manage to boot into a linux cd i have and run a HDD test (what passed) and a memory test (what also passed).

It does exactly the same on an external monitor aswell so I am lost with this one.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Hi, thanks for checking my question. I haven't found an answer to my particular situation:

Dell xps m1430 laptop w/vista (32).

It all started with a blue screen w/scrolling text after the fated restart. The blue screen text said "if this is the first time you've seen this message..." and then comp restarted, again showing the blue screen, then restarted into windows repair mode, after repair mode tried to fix the problem comp restarted, then the screen went black / blank right after the little windows loading animation (where the bar keeps moving from left to right and there's a small windows logo).
It all happened fast, so there may have been steps I forgot, but that's the jist of it.

Now screen always goes black / blank during startup after the windows loading animation, so I can't start windows in normal mode.
I can start in safe mode if I manually force shutdown by holding the power button, so I'm not imploding with fear... ok I am.

Possible causes:
1. This occured right after installing 11 vista updates (that restart was when I saw the blue screen)

2. Also occured the restart after running a patch called "Vista TCP/IP and UAC AutoPatch 6.0" I downloaded it from softpedia, the developer was listed as defcon, and their website listed was, but the site is down(I found this out after the problem occured). The patch had lots of positive reviews, and lots of people on other sites also suggest using it to re... Read more

This problem is been happening for some time now. I have not used this computer for a while. I update the Geforce driver and also all the window updates. I ran malware check and antivirus scans everything comes up clean. What can I do to solve this issues, I am at a loss and our local Microcenter Tech group says everything checks out. The screen will go black then may or may not pop back up. If it does pop back up there is a error message that says Video Driver Kernel error version 358.91 or the computer will reboot then post a message that it recovered for a system error. Any help on this would be great. Thank you.

I'm using Win 7 Home Premium on my Asus desktop and am not a PC expert but managed to get things so that after 15 minutes, it either sleeps or hibernates ( not sure which it's called ) in a way where the power usage goes down to about 6 watts and the monitor screen shuts off too. ( I think the HD shuts down too ) Then when I come back and click the left mouse button, I can hear some kind of motor start back up in the PC and it takes me to my password screen, I enter it and go back to what I'm doing, without the need to reboot. I like it this way.

But SOMETIMES, instead of waking up like that, I just get a black screen and nothing - no way at all to wake it up. I have to shut off the power at the UPS, turn it on, then do a complete reboot from the power on switch.

Is this a flaw in Win 7 that it does that sometimes?

A:Black screen at TIMES after starting back up.

Could be just a transient glitch/bug. You say this is a now and then thing? How often? I'm sure the "motor" you hear is just the HDD starting back up (spinning). How often between times does this happen? In my experience, and others may differ, I've found its best to shut your machine completely off every now and then. Thats not a recommendation, o.k., as not all agree on this, but it works for me. If this happens with some regularity, you could 1.) run a memory test 2.) Run a sfc/scannow to check/repair any corrupted system files. I'll post links to our tutorials on how to do these. Just click on the blue link and follow instructions. Hope this helps!

To give a bit of a background - I had to change the mothboard of my system last month because of an incident of burnt PSU

Coming to the current situation - since the last few weeks, I have noticed that when I am viewing a video on fullscreen mode, I would often hear a system alert sound, like the one you get when you plug and unplug in a pendrive. It doesn't occur always though.

I immediately check the events viewer to see if it has logged anything, but no errors/ warning show up there that could describe what happened at that time.

Moreover, the screen often turns black for a couple of seconds and comes back to normal. Sometimes before it comes back to normal, I could see my screen changing to a much lower resolution and then back to the original one.

Again, nothing related to graphics or monitor in the event viewer.

My system specs:-

AMD FX - 6100 CPU
Asus M5A78L-M-USB3
AMD Radeon HD 5450 GPU
Corsair Vengance - 4GB x 2
Corsair MX-100 - 256 GB SSD
Seagate - 7200 RPM - 500 GB
Seagate - 7200 RPM - 160 GB

This didn't start happening following a clean install, btw.

I have searched for updates to my graphic drivers, but found no new updates.

The monitor is quite old though - 6-7 yrs I guess.

What could be happening here?

Many thanks

hey i recently bought the 'complete edition' of BF2 including bf2, special forces, euro force and armoured fury. i've successfully installed bf2 and special forces but each time i double click on the desktop icon it loads up a small screen with the battlefield 2 logo on it, then my whole screen goes black like it should. but then it always returns to my desktop as if nothing has happened, without a tab in the bottom panel thing.
i've tried adjusting the screen refresh rate in the Video.con file through notepad to match my computer's, and also i've tried running the program as administrator and also in compatibility mode (xp sp2). what more can i do?

A:Battlefield 2 - Black Screen Then Back To Desktop

I had the same issues(and more) with BF2 with a Vista 64 bit install on a new PC a couple weeks ago. You appear to be doing the right things by running as administrator and XP compatibility mode. Hmmm...I assume you are actually logged in as an administrator with admin rights set up, correct? And when you run BF2 you are right clicking the shortcut and selecting run as administrator from the options there? Mine works fine now using the above procedure. The only other problem I had was crashing to desktop when in an online game. This problem appeared out of the blue at the beginning of April. BF2 would CTD after anywhere between 1 and 20 minutes..every time online. Turns out this started happening to many, many others.

It appears to be a new problem with the EA Download Manager. Once I uninstalled that and reinstalled BF2 from disk and run the game from disk the problem went away. So, if you are using the EA DM, you may want to uninstall it and see if installing and running from disk fixes your proble.

the only other thing I can think that I have read about causing this would be a conflict with you vid card and drivers., but I'm not up to speed with that particular issue.

Good luck.

The Viao laptop has been functioning fine.
Windows Vista.
A few hours ago it froze then a blue screen popped up and it restarted.
After restarting, it loaded the Vaio splash and then to a black screen with a blinking icon(the stick that blinks when typing).
I have restarted it, and it loads back to the same screen.
I have tried accessing the bios, but no go.
I removed the hard drive and restarted the computer again to boot into bios, still no go. Instead, any button I press makes it say the operating system is missing.

A:Cannot load pass black screen with blinking icon

... a blinking icon (the stick that blinks when typing) ...That is properly called the cursor. When you first start the computer, watch the screen closely. Do you see a message somewhere on-screen that says something like "Press <a key> for Setup" (and the <a key> could be one of many such as F2 or DEL)? Pressing that key at that time should get you into BIOS Setup Menu regardless of the current problem, or whether the hard drive is attached or not. Let me know which key you see as needing to be pressed, and whether or not you can access the BIOS Setup Menu using that key.Re: blank black screen with blinking cursor on startupWhat you describe as happening when last using the computer, and the ensuing startup issue, strongly suggests a malware infection of the MBR (Master Boot Record). Let's have a look at the MBR.FIRSTLY, connect the hard drive back up to the laptop! Then, please try the following: You will need a USB drive/flashdrive and a new blank writable CD. I have been having this problem since a week or so. Broni has helped me in malware forum to rule out malware as responsible. My machine is clean and I was refered here for further help.

Here is my problem:

At boot-time, I see windows XP load screen with the progress bar, the progress bar advances to the end and then, the screen turns pitch black and all is see is an arrow cursor I can move around. I thought until yesterday that this was a permanent freeze-up, but if I wait, say, 6 minutes, the black screen disappears and windows then starts normally.

Last week, problem was intermittent, it now happens all the time.

Windows boot-up was fine before.

Please help me.

I had this tons of times with my old XP PC. It is normal if you have a lot of files on the HDD and you have little RAM. How much RAM do you have? What is the capacity of the HDD? And do you have the Windows XP disc? Would you be willing to upgrade the RAM and/or the OS if we must resort to that? Or would you rather just buy a new PC?

Ran AVG again safe mode, quarantined from recycle bin. All seemed ok and locked screen was disabled in normal mode but repeat scans to check for remnants kept getting stuck. MBAM ran for 7 hours overnight and didn't complete, as frozen forced restart. On restart black screen with Windows 7 Build 7601 The copy of Windows is not genuine. No toolbar, start menu or other functionality in normal mode.

Ran HitmanPro in safe mode, cookies found and advised that 4v2fo.dat is missing. No virus found.
Ran Avast in safe mode, wouldn't complete but said a threat was found. Froze PC.

Both now removed leaving just AVG (my paid provider) active.

A:UKash Screen Block Resulted in Black Screen Windows Not Authentic

Hi NickyJane,

We'll start with ComboFix. If it doesn't take care of the remaining issues, AVG may have caused more problems than if it had left it alone.

Download ComboFix from here

* IMPORTANT- Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications as they will interfere with our tools and the removal. If you are unsure how to do this, please refer to our sticky topic How to disable your security applications

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply for further review.

NOTE: If you encounter a message "illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion" and no programs will run - please just reboot and that will resolve that error.

I will return this evening - we'll continue then.

Ok, well it starts off with me managing to either corrupt windows or the hard drive on my original hard drive, and when ever I try to boot off there, I get to the windows loading screen (with logo and little green sliding bar) and then it restarts and keeps doing that. Tried booting in safe mode, and from disc but I cannot do anything with it in terms of booting.

So what I decided to do was get a second hard drive and install XP onto there, and then plug my second hard drive in and see if I can transfer files off there to the new one.

I got XP installed fine on it, but when it came to booting with both hard drives plugged in I came to problems. I set which hard drive is the priority one in the bios as there is no pins on the back of this new hard drive, and it got to the windows loading screen with the new installation (i know this because the loading screens are different for both hard drives). After the loading screen my monitors go black and nothing happens.

Windows loads fine when it is just the new hard drive plugged in, even if the old hard drive is plugged in and set to disabled it goes to the black screen.

If anyone is able to give some advice on what to do, or what could be wrong, I would be really grateful.

Sounds like the old hard drive is faulty to me.

Hello everybody, today my laptop has become blind. Let me explain:

My laptop was purchased in 2007
Alienware m9750
Dual nvidia 7950 go
Dual core 2.0
2 gigs of ram
80 gb harddrive

So here's what happened, today I was watch s movie on netflix when suddenly my screen goes black. Though I had crashed but my laptop was still on and the sound was still going. restarted, and the initial screen was slightly pixellated and garbled. Which has now made my laptop permanent garbled and pixely. After the windows logo. My screen goes black, but I am still hear the windows start up sound. I found that I am able to click on some music files on my desktop that are able to play, so this is a video issue. I reboot in safe mode which works this time figure to disable and uninstall the videocard drivers. I restart and I'm able to use my pc somewhat normally( still garbled). Reinstalled the nvidia drivers then halfway through says: error install failed or something, it happen really fast then crashed, tried restarting atleast 20 times in safe mode but it freezes up after it tries to load partition(1)\windows\system32\drivers\mup.sys

All of the other options for start up(even last settings to work) the screen goes black after the windows logo. I have tried tinkering with the bios but it doesn't help. Its basically being blind using a computer. So I'm wondering if there is anyway to possibly blindly open up command prompt and possibly disable or uninstall the drivers from there, I'm ab... I am encountering an issue of when the Dell optiplex 755 boots up, it boots through the Windows XP logo just fine, once it tries to transition between the logo and loading the system up, it just shows a black screen and nothing else happens. I tried using a bootable Windows XP flash drive to repair the system files and it loads the Windows XP setup ok but when it runs through all of the commands on the bottom of the screen and the last one says "Starting Windows" , it takes me to a blue screen (screenshot below). I have HIRENS and have done a lot of the chkdsk commands to fix the files and everything comes back ok. I tried to clone the hard drive with the same exact hard drive and still the same issue. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help in advance.

About 75% of the time when I Restart/Reboot my PC (with XP OS) I get only a black screen after it goes down. In other words, when I Restart it takes the system down but doesn't bring the system back up again. I get no BIOS information, no mouse cursor...nothing - just a black screen. When this happens I have to shut off the PC using the On/Off button on the tower (which I'm always able to use successfully) and when I turn the PC back On again the OS system always comes back (as it should). As I said, this problem only happens about 75% of the time when I Restart/Reboot. This has been happening for at least a few months, but I don't really think about it until I Restart it because I leave the PC on 24/7. Any ideas what the problem may be?

Ok I have my dad's laptop, can't figure out what's wrong with it. It's a 1 year old Hewlett-Packard, windows vista SP 1.

I'm tempted to just restore it. But if it's an easy fix, I'd rather not go to the
hassle of making discs.

We have a trend micro antivirus thing on here. It hasn't found anything.

Basically what it's doing is, every so often, the screen will just go black. It doesn't come back on, you have to shut the computer down and restart to fix it. The computer is not shut off though. You can still mess with the volume and turn the wireless thing on and off, via the onboard controls.

So I'm lost as to what to do. Tried googling it, couldn't find anything real specific. Thanks for any help in advance!

When I close the screen panel of my Hp 6710b laptop it get in sleep mode. But when I open the screen (flip open) the screen is black and the computer seems to works fine. The backlight works and the hdisk works...
But impossible to get image on the screen.

It does that since the laptop is new. We got 10 of those laptop at the job and does the same thing. The informatic departement seems they solve the problem but they dont want to help me since they are get pay to work at the job but not for me :-O *(&??$%"/$!

I heard its from the usb wakeup mode... from Hp , not windows ... but I cant find where I get to the power management of the peripherics.

I read tone of replies of this problem on the net but did not find anything that works.
Most problems are:
-bad pilot
-bad usb peripherics

A:black screen after back from long sleep mode

It is a common problem on hp laptops.
See this

Try Manually pressing Fn+F4

You may find that hibernation will work, whilst sleep will not, as sleep retains power to ram and many HP`s had a problem with the graphics card operating properly after sleep mode.

Today I decided to try out Windows 8, and found the free trial of Windows 8 Enterprise at MSDN. I used the upgrade assistant downloaded to install windows 8, and had to choose the option that deleted my previous files, since the original upgrade option was apparently not compatible with my windows. The installation started, and after the second-reboot my computer got stuck on a "getting ready" screen. It then restarted again, but this time would go into a loop where a screen would pop up saying my computer "restarted unexpectedly or has encountered an unexpected error." After clicking "OK" and the computer restarting, the Windows 8 logo with the spinning circle below appears for a few seconds, then my screen turns black (completely black), and then goes to being back-lit, but still being black. I can't put the CD in to try to re-install windows, since this was a digital download. I also read on other topics that putting the computer to sleep and then waking it up again will fix this, but I can't put the computer to sleep when I have no interface to work with. I thought this might be a result of my graphics card, so I reverted to the onboard car through the BIOS with no luck. I've tried booting in safe mode with no luck, and can only seem to get into the BIOS.

A:Black, Back-lit screen after Win8 logo appears

Do you have restore CDs to go back to the original OS? If so, that's where I'd start, then you could try the installation again.
Also, somewhere in the upgrade assistant, it provides the option to burn a disc or make a flash drive to boot off of. Once you get the original OS back on, create a bootable disc for Windows 8.

Hi, I'm having a problem with my Dell Latitude E6400. When I'm not using it for a while the screen goes black (like into a sleeping mode) like all computers and laptops do. But if it stays black for a little while, and when I go to get back on it and move the mouse around or press the keys the screen won't turn back on but the computer is running because the light on the keyboard are lit up and I can hear the fan running. The only way I can get the screen back on is if I shut it down by pressing the power button on my keyboard and turning it back on.

Can anyone please tell me what to do or what is wrong with it. That would be much appreciated. Thank you

So this has been happening for quite some time now. While in game in almost every game, my screen will periodically freeze and turn black, then after a few seconds come back on to renew game play. This ONLY happens when I am in-game, not while anything else is happening on my computer. During this I can still hear audio from all sources but the game itself. The frequency of this varies from game to game, and some are even free of the problem, but it's become very tiresome. I've tried everything I could think of to fix the problem, including backdating and updating my drivers, but I'm no expert. I can only assume this has something to do with my card, any help would be appreciated

I've got 8 gigs of ram, an Nvidia Geforce GTX 660, CPU is a 2x 3200 MHz, couldn't tell you about the motherboard other than it came with the factory built tower.

A:Screen periodically turns black during gameplay then comes back on

Are you running the fan speed at automatic? I was having the same problem with my Radeon HD 7770 when the fan speed was set to auto. Going to a manual fan speed of 60% solved the problem and my GPU runs a lot cooler. Go into your Nvidia control panel and try setting the fan speed above 50% and play your game, bump it higher if you still get black screens. It makes your PC a little louder, but it's better than damaging your card with excess heat.

I don't think that the automatic fan speed modes work on either Radeon or Nvidia cards in the last few sets of drivers, based on the forum complaints that I've been reading lately.

I have a new ProBook 645 G1 that I use most of the time with a Dell 34" monitor (3415w) connected via the DisplayPort with the lid closed on the ProBook. If I lift the lid on the ProBook, the display switches to the laptop fine, and if I close the lid, it switches back to the external monitor fine. However, if I switch inputs on the monitor to view a different computer, then switch the monitor back to view the DisplayPort that the ProBook is connected to, the ProBook will not display, either on the external monitor or on its own screen (if I open the lid on the ProBook, the display on the ProBook is black as well). The only way I have found to recover the display on the ProBook is to force the laptop down by holding the power key until it powers off, then powering it back on and letting it boot up. I have tried cycling the lid and waiting to see if the ProBook will eventually output on the DisplayPort or the ProBook screen. It won?t. I have tried the Windows +P keys without effect, as well as unplugging the DisplayPort cable from the ProBook, but the display on the ProBook will not come back on. The ProBook boots up fine on the external monitor. I have found that if I open the lid on the ProBook *before* I switch the input on the monitor away from the ProBook, then switch the monitor back to the DisplayPort connected to the ProBook and close the lid, it switches back to the external monitor fine. If I forget to open the lid on the ProBook before switching the external ... Read more

My screen will sometimes go black for a few seconds and the sound stops, but when the picture come back the sound doesn't. This only happens if I'm using my monitor, connected by as my default sound device but when I use my headset that is connected by optical wire there is still sound, when switched back to my monitor there is still no sound. The problem also makes it so that I can't make my hidden taskbar rise when I mouse over it when I'm on the Chrome window, although I can still get to the taskbar by pressing the Windows button on my keyboard. Restarting is a temporary fix, although whenever it turns off it gives me a notification about "Waiting for explorer.exe to close" (picture of message) then I have to click a button to force close that program. My computer closes it automatically when my headset is set as my default sound device.

Hello team,

About since the beginning of this week. My computer would, without reason, turn off (the screen goes black) and reboots. This has happened about 5 times now this week, but prior to that, it has never done this. At first, my primary suspect in my mind was Firefox/Flash Shockwave because the time the shut-off happens, it's when I was online. I updated all software and reduced hardware acceleration in response. However, the last time this has happened, I was not online, so I'm ruling Firefox and Shockwave out.

I ran some heat tests with SpeedFan and my cores and GPU seem optimal (unless occasionally exceeding 60 C is a problem) so I can probably rule overheating out (it's not like the fans roar before the computer shuts off). I did virus scans and they came up clean.

I have a Dell Studio XPS 435MT that has approached its 5th year this summer. All of its hardware is stock except the power supply, I had it replaced around May of this year because the original died out unexpectedly. However, since that time, I had no problems with the new one. I could give the name of the power supply but I don't have it on-hand at the moment.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Last night I downloaded a file from a Torrent site - Blackberry stuff (I'm pretty sure most or all was freeware stuff). I just noticed that that file has been removed. Kinda unfortunately because I did leave a comment on what happened to me and I asked if anyone else had the same issue. I'm guessing maybe they did because it is gone now.

I ran my AVG scan on it before opening it. It didn't find anything so I ran the executable. It locked up at one point after I started getting virus warnings from some new program (I did not write down what any of it was :-( ).

I had to do a hard shutdown. When it came up to my choices window, i.e. choose Safe Mode, Last Know, etc. I was unable to make any selections with my keyboard so it continued to boot Windows normally. The XP splash screen comes on and then the screen turns black with nothing further happening.

I can do a hard reboot but I can't get into Safe Mode because the keyboard isn't working and normal windows isn't working either.

Got any suggestions? Do I have some serious funk? Did some piece of hardware decide to stop functioning properly (power supply)?

I have been Googling this issue without any success. Sometimes it feels like you are the only one to ever have a particular issue.

This happened very late last night and now I am at work so I'm not able to touch it for the next 5 hours or so. The only two things that I can do right now is go into the BIOS settings or watch it go into Windows and then get the... Read more

Ok it all started when I ran Nod32 antivirus. I ran it because I had some viruses on my computer that I wanted to get rid of. After the scan there were 180 some detected objects that were quarantined or deleted. So then I restart my computer and after the windows xp logo there is just a black screen with no cursor. And after awhile the computer will just restart and try booting up again. I tried going into safe mode and safe mode with command prompt but I still get a black screen with no cursor. The last known good configuration doesn't work either. I'm pretty frustrated because I did nothing wrong. I am also having a feeling that nod32 might have quarantined some infected files that are essential for Windows Xp to boot. I also do not have any windows xp disks with me because I lost them a very long time ago. Is there anything I can do to fix my computer? Thanks.

First thing to do is update your drivers from the NVIDIA website.

If BSODs continue Try HDD tests,

I am not sure what's wrong, but I have uninstall nvidia drivers that gave me problems ie. 257.21, 196.21....etc. I am currently using 195.62. I am certain that it was a VGA driver problem, because it never happened again, till I decided to remove windows internet explorer and it did the black screen thing again. It restarts and instead of showing windows splash screen it shows a black screen. When I am at the black screen I can't do anything, I will have manually restart and when it boots up the second time it will load windows. It's ____ me off. I hope someone can help me here, and I appreciate it. Atm I am gonna reinstall IE 8 and let's hope for the best.

PS. I just bought this new HDD WDVELOCIRAPTOR 300GB. So it's brand new. Don't know what's going on.

I just hit my reset button, get message to do startup repair or start windows normally.

I'd be interested if you can find a resolution to this issue. I gave up on it!!!

Hey, need some help yet again!

Yesterday, I downloaded Mission Against Terror (New MMOFPS), and I downloaded it. Upon updating with the patcher, my laptop went haywire. It started opening up random IE windows, slow speed, etc etc.

I did a whole memory scan, and a malware/adware/spyware scan. There were several viruses and whatnot, but what is important are the files: SVC2.exe and 2008.exe, you'll find it why later on. The anti-virus said that it had fixed/deleted everything.

So, I restarted my laptop, hoping that I'd get it up and running in safe mode for any further scans. Unfortunately, when I restarted it, after the windows 7 loading screen (which is right before login screen), a black screen appeared. With nothing at all. Not even a cursor. BLACK. JUST BLACK with NO keyboard access/mouse access. But, that's expected since it's BEFORE the login screen. It's the same with normal boot, boot that does that "last best used option" or whatever, safe mode, with networking, etc etc. All the same. Black screen.

Good thing I had WIN XP on my other hard drive. So, I booted up into WIN XP (where I'm posting this from), and did a FULL (NOT QUICK) system scan, to find the SAME Viruses YET AGAIN: SVC2.exe and 2008.exe, along with some other minor tracking cookies and what-not. Win XP (on second drive) is also having a few problems, like IE shutting down every second (using firefox now). Think this is a whole system prob. But, why? Didn't the antivirus-es fix it? I... Whenever the Windows loadscreen passes the screen goes black and I can move a cursor around the screen.
I have had this happen before and fixed it with bootrec.exe but I can't seem to get that to work this time...
Startup repair says it cannot help - Safe mode has the exact same black screen problem.
I have done chkdsk and sfc scannow - Didn't fix it.
When I boot into Kaspersky Rescue from a USB drive it mentions that I need to shut down windows properly before continuing. I would like to do this but I can't.
I have tried changing the active partition on information in some of these other threads - It didn't seem to work.
All disks are healthy according to the DISKPART and Partition Wizard. I have done the HP hardware diagnostic scans and everything comes up fine.

I see that a lot of the advice on the threads is to do a fresh install - Is it really broken beyond repair at this point?

Does anyone have any other ways I can try and fix this problem?

After doing a Windows update, my computer gave a Windows looking message that my hard drive was going bad and to back up my data. I was able to save my user files. Then the pc crashed with a BSOD. I disabled restart after crash. Found the error was 0x0000006B (having to do with a corrupt bootcat.cache file.) Could not boot up windows except for semi windows with my windows 7 disk and Chose Repair, in Recovery console, however it told me nothing could be repaired. Through an option to "find a file" under the Recovery option. I managed to copy a GOOD copy of the bootcat.cache file and I appropriately placed it in E:\Windows\system32\codeintegrity (it was ONLY seeing C: as a system partition) my drive letters were all reassigned.

Sorry this is confusing and a lot of info. Bottom line is, my hard drive is not bad, I see windows on it and all my files and the BIOS recognizes the drive. It is firmly connected and NOT hot to the touch.

From a command prompt I did a bootrec.exe /fixmbr and also /fixboot as the pc was not properly booting up. it still would not boot properly

I am totally unable to go to safe mode (hitting F8) No matter what I do, I get a Windows Splash screen and then my screen goes to a Black Screen with a White arrow cursor, the hard drive appears to be trying to work the light flickers) but it just hangs at the black screen

Again, it refuses to allow me to boot to safe mode. It tries to load the Windows S... Read more

A:Windows 7 splash screen, then black screen NO Safe Mode

sorry for bumping. it seems people get a lot of responses to their questions and i was hoping to get the same kind of response.

Bottom line is, my computer tries to load Windows (7) with the splash screen, then goes to a black screen with an arrow and stays there.

I am unable to boot to safe mode.

I am unable to do a recovery from booting from the Windows 7 Install CD

Watching a video in Windows Media Player...I wanted to get a screen of a part of the video. So I press PrintScreen...and travel over the MSPaint. Hit paste..and lo and behold...the screen is there...except the video is still playing! LOL

I tried to pause the video..then save. But when I reopen, where the video should be it is black. Is there a way to make screen grabs of videos in WMP? Thanks

A:Windows Media Player: Screen Capture (black screen)?

I think this question has been kicked around before, I just don't remember what the answer was or how to query the search base here for it.

I'm going to move this to the All other Software forum, since it is really a Windows Media Player, not an XP question; I will edit the topic also.

Perhaps one of the denizens there will recall this one.

Here's one I remember: try IrfanView, it worked when I tested it.

Good Morning,

For the past several months I have been having problems with my HP desktop computer. When my system reboots I sometimes get a black screen with nothing on it or it gets stuck on the windows logo or I get a blue screen with a bunch of writing.

The blue screen tends to happen with the computer goes into hibernation. So I changed my settings to that it doesn't happen but I would like to fix that so that I can give my computer a rest during the time that I'm not using it.

I have checked for malware, viruses you name it... nothing.

HP HPE-180t
Windows 7 SP1
Intel core i7 930 @2.80GHz
9.00 GB RAM
Kaspersky Internet Security 2013

If you need further info please let me know. ;)
ps I had wonderful support several years ago regarding my laptop.. thank you once again :)

A:Black screen, Blue Screen & Stuck on Windows logo

Hello Britt,

I would like to fix that so that I can give my computer a rest during the time that I'm not using it.

The best way to do this is to simply turn it off; it will also save on the electricty bills too.
When I am not using my machine, I turn it off, because here in South Australia we have the second highest electricity charges in the world.

I get a blue screen with a bunch of writing.

Can you tell us what the blue screen says; usually this is due to a recent hardware or software change; however, in your instance it might be the Hibernation feature that is malfunctioning.
Post back with the information about the blue screen, please.

Kind Regards,

Hey all,
I am having problems with the screen freeing when running multiple windows (Chrome, office etc etc). When I try to swap between windows, I get a freeze and I am unable to do anything.
The cursor can be seen moving around the screen but has no effect in any area. The Windows Key doesn't ppear, nor can I tab into another programme.
If I try and start task manager to see which program is causing this, it will not appear over the frozen image.
Is there a way of telling from an event log what program is failing?

I have had some trojans making my computer crazy for a about a week I thought I got rid of them with my antivirus but last night after I restarted my computer windows started up fine with the welcome screen. Then it just goes to a black screen some of the times when it started it would open the file explorer and I can still navigate every where. I tried the startup repair and restored it back to two different restore points but it didn't do anything. I can open the task manager with ctrl+alt+del and don't see anything running that should not be running. I have also run scan disk and a registry scan, has anyone had this problem before and is there a way to fix it with out having to format. Thanks in advance

I've had this happened once or twice since I've had the computer, but so far record, it's happened 3 times in one day. Which concerns me. Alot of the time, it happens when the computer is coming back out of sleep mode. The screen will flash black for literally half a second, and the taskbar at the bottom goes back to default settings. (Nothing else does.) And generally nothing will work In the taskbar when this happens. Example, my wireless will show that its active on my taskbar before it flashes, then it shows up with x over it after the flash happens. And I cannot go back and change it manually. I have to reboot. When I do reboot, it is back to normal.

Is there anyone who might have any idea what causes this to happen, or what I can do to remedy it? Thank you!

Hi, My screen is flickering and then eventually just goes completely black after a certain point when opening the lid of the laptop. It has to be at basically a 90 degree angle to the keyboard to function correct. Beyond that it begins the flickering.I've seen comments saying this common and due to ribbon cables. However I only bought my laptop at the beginning of the year and do not wish to fix this myself as I assume it's covered by warranty. How do I go about getting my laptop repaired?
System Specs are as follows:
System Model Inspiron 7559
OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2601 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Ram - 8GB
Graphics Card - GeForce GTX 960mThanks,Steven

A:Screen goes Black/Flickers when pushed back. How do I return for a repair?

Start with a call to Dell support - the technician will troubleshoot with you and then if a warranty repair is needed, will initiate the process.

I have a computer running Windows 7. Last night the computer was running fine. This morning when I turn it on, i get a black screen. To fix the problem I conducted a system restore. After it finished restoring, the computer restarts and everything worked fine. To make sure if everything was in working order, I restart it again. After the "Starting Windows" screens comes up, I get the Blue Screen of Death. I can't even read what the error says because the computer just restarts itself. I did not connect anything new to the computer. I performed a hardware diagnostics to see if it was a hardware failure but no error was found. I can't even get into safe mode. The SFC.exe will be my next step.

A:Windows 7 Black Screen then Blue Screen of Death

The SFC.exe did not work either.
