Microsoft Works 9 change where Works goes at startup

Q: Microsoft Works 9 change where Works goes at startup

When I start MS Works 9, and go to File Open, it goes to My documents. I would like it to go to C:, Program Files(x86), Microsoft Works, Documents. That is where I want to put Word Processors And Spreadsheets. If I cannot open Documents Folder automatically, I at least want Microsoft Works Folder to open automatically. There must be a way to do this.

I downloaded some Microsoft updates, rebooted, and now my Microsoft Works Calendar won't come up. I've been to MS website and tried their fix - it didn't work. Next option is to delete Works and reload. My question is - will this deletion get rid of all of my data files along with the program? Also, is Outlook Express part of Works? I've tried to find out, but can't. I'm really concerned about making a mess of things.

A:Solved: Microsoft Works Calendar -works cannot access one or more files.......

Outlook Express is not part of Works.

What version of Works do you have and is it supported by Windows XP?

Hello,

I have been using Microsoft Works database function for many years. I am a secretary at a sportsmens club and I have the membership developed in a database that contains name, address, zipcode,ss#,drivers licence # etc.

From this databsae I create labels to be used to mail out our club newsletters. We currently have over 1400 members that we store pertinent information on.

Using the label program in Microsoft works in previous versions such as 4.0 or 4.5 has been a breeze and always worked wonderfully.

We upgraded our computer system and now have the microsoft works version 2000. We were able to load our databse in this version and have been using it quite regularly. We are continually adding to this database daily.

My problem is, I have yet to figure out how to develop the labels for the mailing addresses. You would think this would be an easy process but when I try to do this I get an error message saying I have characters such as periods etc and cannot produce these labels. That would be quite a bit of extra work to remove any of those special characters and before I would do that I would want to make sure if that is really what the problem is. Why would it be a problem in works 2000 and not works 4.5

Right now I have the program loaded on a laptop with works 4.5 just to devleop the labels. I really do not want to convert to using just 4.5 because of the dates that I use in the databse and with the newer version it recognizes dates in the year 2000 and greater.... Read more

I recently purchased an ASUS Windows 8.1 64 bit computer.  I transferred my Microsoft Works Version 8.0 word processor and spreadsheet files from my old computer onto the new computer.  I just purchased the Microsoft Office 2013 Home and Student Edition (64 bit version) from an online vendor and installed the software onto my new computer.

I have no problems opening my Works spreadsheet files in Excel.  However, when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get gibberish.  I did some research online and found out that there is a Microsoft tool called Works 6-9 Converter which allows one to open Works files in Word.

I downloaded the Works 6-9 Converter tool from the Microsoft Support website and installed it on my PC.  However, when I subsequently attempted to open a Works word processor file in Word, a dialog box appeared with the error message "Word cannot start the converter Wks9Pxy.cnv" and the file did not open properly (i.e., I got gibberish).

I did a little more research online and found out that uninstalling the Works 6-9 Converter, then downloading and installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package, and finally reinstalling the Works 6-9 Converter may correct this problem.  I followed these steps, but unfortunately when I attempt to open a Works word processor file in Word, I get the same error message and the file does not open properly. ... I did not suspect that this was a virus.  But while Google-ing for a solution I came across a post here that resoved the issue. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/511425/virus-scan-failed-in-chrome/

Based on Chrome support forums suggestions:
1. Even though IE and FireFox can download files I have tried to disable the scanning of download.  via a registry change under MS\policy key.
2. Disable Anti-virus
3. Renaming AVG8.dlls and rebooting.
4. Running Malware AntiBytes
5. Uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome.

My futile attempts to clean the machine:
1. I have tried to disable any toolbars (AVGSafeSearch)
2. Uninstall all AntiVirus appliactions.  I found traces of AVG8, AVG9, Advast, and AVG2104.
3. When that failed I loaded MS Security Essentials
4.  Check for multiple firewalls running
5. Installed new copies of IE and Chrome
6. Ran windows update, just to be up to date.
7. Ran SFC /Scannow
8. Ran SuperAntiSpyware
9. Ran Spybot S&D
10. Ran TDSSLiller
11. Ran HitManPro 3.7

The registry has strange random numeric entries that I believe came from a virus.  I am in over my head and need the help of a professional volunteer.

Nasdaq in thread http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/541399/chrome-reports-virus-scan-failed-on-all-downloads-ie-works-firefox-works helped me remove all the viruses and malware, but I still can’t download with Chrome with the virus scanning turned on.  Nasdaq also believes that there is a problem with ‘Security Center” because FSS.exe run as Administrator cannot report on multiple security features.  The last FSS.log will be posted shortly.

Is it possible to get Chrome to download and scan these downloads?  Or will I need to reimage this machine?

A:Chrome reports Virus Scan Failed on all downloads, IE works FireFox Works

The fact that Internet Explorer and Firefox aren't exhibiting this problems makes me suspicious of Google Chrome being corrupt.

I would try uninstalling Chrome in the Control panel under Programs and Features.

I would then type regedit in the Search programs and files box and press Enter.

When the registry opens click on Edit and then click on Find.

In the find search box type Chrome and then click on Find next.

This should show up as highlighted in blue, right click on this and choose delete.

Do the same with Google Chrome.

Now download Chrome and install it and see if the problem still persists.

Warning:  Do not make any other changes other than those I've suggested.  A wrong change in the registry can result in your computer being unresponsive.

Edit:  I will not download anything to my computer unless I know exactly what it contains.

Hi there,

I have had this error for about 1 week after I installed/uninstalled several VPN services.
I have "internet access"  on both Local Area Connection and WIFI but, none of my browsers are
displaying a webpage.  Skype works, TOR works (I am using TOR's default 127.0.0.1:9050 proxy
settings to get online with Chrome).  On Chromes start page it even shows my name as logged into
GMAIL! (before I switched to the TOR proxy settings.)

Here is what I have tried

Flushing the DNS
release/renew ip
reset winsock
disabled/re-enabled both adapters
Unistalled/reinstalled both network adapters
shutoff the firewall
booted into safemode
removed my antivirus

Ran a few scripts

lspfix
winsock repair
windows repair (all-in-one) tweaknow
mini toolbox

Run MBAM scan
and MSE scan

Reset IE to default.
Cleared proxy setings.
Re-installed the adapter client, service and protocols,

This is driving me nuts! Its got to be something easy that I am missing!

Any help would be appreciated!

Before I describe my problem, I want to let you all know that this is my work laptop.  My work IT people have already tried a lot of things such as combofix, malwarebytes, restore points, etc for THREE DAYS.  Therefore, I apologize in advance if the work that they did make it more difficult to fix.  I am coming here as my last resort before they reimage my computer.

At the beginging of this week (2/25), I noticed that I cannot access any website via Chrome.  Chrome shows a circle animiation in the upper left hand corner of the window.  I have no problem in accessing the same website with IE.  One interesting observation is that all icons (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Search, etc) show "color" when I bring up Chrome.  This usually mean that they can access their associated services.  Chrome can still access my gmail setting, including my bookmarks etc.  I looked and did not notice any redirection in my proxy settings.

I contacted my IT guys then an they tried every which way possible to fix my problem.  They noted that Chrome would work in "no sandbox" mode but that's not safe.  They said I had some malware infection and they took care of them.  However, even Malwarebytes show zero infection, Chrome never works.  IE never has any problems.

I hope that I can find some help in this forum.  Here is the DDS log.

Probably this is something simple in IE7 options/settings but I failed to figure it out.

This is happening on my desktop (am writing this on my laptop). It's failing to connect, with the exception being "secure" sites - https://....

Email is working fine.

Thanks

PS this happened after we did Microsoft livecare free scan and implemented corrective actions (malware/virus deletions); it then prompted us to reboot, then indicated new Windows updates to install, and then it prompted us to re-install IE7

I'm having a similar problem to Chris Chu - http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/888744-need-help-have-wireless-but.html

I just upgraded from Qwest DSL 1.5 Mbps with an Actiontec GT701 modem to the 12Mbps service with the Actiontec Q1000 modem, set up with just the default options.

I'm having a very peculiar problem. I can see the Q1000's GUI control panel (192.168.0.1) and browse the Internet from a computer connected via wi-fi. However, a computer connected viaEthernet doesn't see the web or even the Q1000 control center. A ping from the Ethernet-connected machine times out. However, the Ethernet-connected machine CAN see the other machines connected to the Q1000 - I played an MP3 file from one of the other machines. So the router function for the LAN is working, but the Q1000 doesn't respond to a ping or let me see the external 'Net or even browse to the Q1000's GUI panel.

I've tried this with just one machine connected directly via Cat5 and none of the other Ethernet ports on the Q1000 used. I've done that from two different PCs, using 4 different Cat5 cables, and trying different ports on the Q1000. I've also tried it going through a D-Link switch with the same results from 4 different PCs.
All of these connections worked with the GT701 and the 1.5 Mbps service, but not with the Q1000. We even tried replacing the Q1000 with the same results. (Firmware versions were QAQ01-31.00L.34 on the first Q1000 and QAQ01-31.00L.33 ... Read more

Microsoft Office 2010 is installed on my PC (Dell Studio XPS8100, Windows 7). Another member of the household has asked whether she can install Microsoft Works 9.0 on my PC, now that her PC is on its last legs. (She greatly prefers Works over Office, for its simplicity and because of her long-term familiarity with Works.) If Works 9.0 is installed onto my PC, would this cause problems for Office 2010, Works 9.0, and/or my PC? If so, are there workarounds? Thanks.

A:Microsoft Works 9.0 and Microsoft Office 2010 compatibility

The official "word" from Microsoft (pun intended) is that Office & Works can co-exist on the same PC.

Provided you do not intend to share documents between Office & Works (ie both suites will be used separately), there are no "workarounds" or special procedures you need to remember when using them.

I use MS Works (8.5) database for my company booking info, and mail merge the database into confirmation letters etc (MS Works word processor).

My office has a few computers networked, and they've all got works 8.5 on them, all of them mail merge without problems - except for my own desktop machine!!

As soon as I select Tools > Mail Merge > Open Data Source I get the error:

'Works cannot open the mail merge list you selected. The file may be damaged, or it may be in a file format that Works does not support.'

Can I stress again - these files work fine on all other machines (all XP), and the message pops up before I even select which file to merge with!!? Literally when I hit the menu item!

I tried uninstalling Works, removing all mention in the registry, and reinstalling - it still does it. The database file and letter files to merge them with are all held on another computer in the office, all computers access them the same way - using the MSHOME network, no workgroup or anything.

Any ideas?? Please help!!

I just tried opening one of the mail-merge letters and linking it to a completely empty database file, saving it and trying that on the problem computer. It still gave the error.

So it's 100% not the contents of any of the database fields that are causing this.

Have a WinXP Pro machine that the Paste function ceased to work on. Copy is still a valid option and drag and drop works for files. This is happening for both files in folders and from one text file to another. The computer is on an isolated network for TV production on our campus and does not have external access (even isolated thumbdrives).
I have removed the clipboard component and reinstalled it from an XP Pro (SP3) CD and it is still doing the same thing. If you try to run "clipbrd.exe" it will begin to launch but then does not respond. It is possible that we will have to reinstall XP on this machine, but I wanted to see if anyone had some good ideas on this first. We are using video production software on this machine and it is going to be a royal PITA to rebuild. I can get logs, but it takes some doing, so please be specific on what will be helpful in diagnosing this issue.
Thanks,

Hi, I'm a forum virgin so please be gentle with me.

I have a desktop and laptop sharing files and an internet connection via modem to D-Link router setup.

My laptop connects to the network via a Netgear PCMCIA wireless card when mobile and via an ethernet cable when sitting on the desk.

The wireless connection does everything it's supposed to do (network and internet access and sharing).

The ethernet connection only shares files but can not get an internet connection to be established.

I have Norton Internet Security but I think everything's alright with that otherwise I wouldn't be able to connect wirelessly. Correct? Are there different IP setup's for wireless/ethernet.

Why can I 'see' my desktop's files and share the printer via ethernet but I can't establish an internet connection unless I go wireless?

Everything's fine with the desktop.

Sorry for the ramble and thanks in anticipation.

Really need more information to be able to help.
What is the make/model and operating system of each computer?
How are they connected?
Do the compuiters show in each other's Network display?
Can the computers ping each other by IP Address and Computer Name?

This is a general trouble shooting guide for simple problems.

Each computer must have a Unique Name.
Each computer must have at least one user account with a password. Vista will not share with computers that do not.
All the computers must have the same Work Group Name.
File Sharing must be turned on for each computer.
Firewalls must be configured to allow sharing.
To Turn on File Sharing.
For the XP computers go to Control Panel, Network Setup wizard.
Click next.
Click next.
If you are running wireless, the ethernet card will be listed. If connected by ethernet and you have a wireless card it will be listed.
For right now, just select "Ignore the listed connections".
Click next.
Select "This computer connects to the internet by a residential gateway".
Click next.
Enter the Work Group name.
Click next.
Select "Turn on File and printer Sharing"
Click next.
Verify all the information is correct.
Click next.
I would select "Just finish the wizard" and not make a disc. It take about the same amount of time to run the disc as to manually enter the data.

Click finish.

Hi,

I?m hoping someone can help me figure this problem out. Its driving me crazy.

I have no problem connecting to my new wireless network. Once I am connected, Skype works without any problems, and Microsoft Outlook works without any problems, but none of my browsers (Chrome, IE or Firefox) work at all! What is going on? (Also Google Earth doesn?t connect, but I can live with that one...)

I?m pasting the text that came out of the ipconfig command, which I can?t really make any sense of. All help would be very, very appreciated!! Thanks.

I installed a Dell PC for a customer. It has MS Works 7.0 as standard.
The customer has loads of MS Word documents with the Word-extension .DOC

I have set the file-type .DOC to associate with the Works Wordprocessor, and when I double-click a .DOC file, it opens correctly with Works-Word. However, it converts the .DOC file upon opening into a .WPS file, the default for that program.

At my customer's site, the document gets only printed and it never changes. But when you then close the file and/or the program, the sh.t-program keeps asking to save the changes (because it converted it to .WPS).

Is there any way to stop this evil-doer from converting, and can I set the default filetype to .DOC?

It drives my customer bananas!!!

A:How to change Default .WPS to .DOC in MS Works 7.0

Why doesn't he simply use Wordpad to open any .doc files? Wordpad also uses the .doc file extension.

Either that or he simply clicks 'No' when asked to save changes in Works.

Does Works have a default save word file as option in the tools\preferences menu (or any of its menus - I don't use Works so I don't know its options)?

If your customer has documents that are only printed, not edited, then they should consider Adobe Acrobat .pdf format for the documents. At least then they can't be acidentally changed and the layout will be consistent regardless of wp program settings.

A:Microsoft works

Hi andy meyrick

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Is this the Windows Address Book you are referring to?
Outlook Express also uses the Windows Address Book.

If so, do a Search for the file extension: *.wab

If not, let us know what operating system you are using and program the address book was associated with.

I do not remember an Address Book associated with Microsoft Works, but then again, I used Microsoft Works only briefly.

Have you recently installed a device driver or any software which installs a virtual driver (for example, a third-party firewall, antivirus, or cd-burning application)? Since Windows Safe Mode loads only a minimal set of system drivers & ignores third-party drivers, it could possibly be an issue with a recently introduced driver or any of the aforementioned types of software.

If that rings any bells, uninstall the offending software or driver and see if that allows Works to function in normal mode.

Here is the link to Microsoft Works 9 info which is a basic word processing program plus other features.

After goggling "Microsoft works 9, error 646" and reading solutions from Microsoft Answers this Microsoft Fix it solution is supposed to fix your error even though it says it is for Office 2007. Click on the button half way down the page.

I hope I put this in the right place. But here is my problem. I use Works 9 for my word processor and I create a lot of documents on it.

My last computer ran XP, I had to replace it and the new computer is running W7, SP1 with IE 10.

When I open Works 9 and, say am outlining whatever and I go to set a tab in the ruler. Almost every time I do this a window opens that has Tabs in the upper left hand corner and a number of tabs already preset. I would like to turn this off as it is irritating to try to set a tab and almost every time you do this window opens.

Thanks.

I am a novice so please forgive my bumbling here- I have worked with technical support staff at work to resolve issues but never on my own pc. I have windows xp and am having a problem accessing several programs/parts of programs associated with microsoft works. I cannot access clip art gallery or clip art and frames in picture it! I get a message that it can't find database and to reinstall works. I cannot get into calendar at all and get the following message:

Works cannot find one or more files it needs to run calendar. The files may have been renamed, deleated or moved. Try reinstalling works and then starting the program again.

I have tried reinstalling but it still doesn't work. I was also having problems with Roxio and could not burn cd's. It didn't work to reinstall at first either but then I was able to enter registration information and that fixed the problem.

Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

When it says it cand find the database, can you post the full message, like the Calender one. For the calender issue, have a look at this:

A:Microsoft Works 8.5 plus others.

It may have become corrupted. Are you able to reinstall Works by any chance? If so do it, and use a repair option if offered. Then after a reboot the uninstall should work.

Alternatively try the Control Panel method in Safe Mode (reached by tapping F8 repeatedly while booting up).

Also, there is always CCleaner which can often uninstall something that refuses to go.

Not sure what you mean by

Also I have software for other applications: how do I remove their Microsoft counterparts ?

Exactly what is it you refer to? Removing Windows Components can be dangerous, but some can be disabled or turned off I suppose. Please be more specific.

if you goto start , control panal , view, explorer bar, folders, find that microsoft file, see if there is anything wrong with it, normally, it comes with that READ ME file, have you checked it all? if that's okay, then

goto start, Run, type in appwiz.cpl YOU have to wait, check change/remove programs. scroll down to microsoft, and check if the spreadsheet is installed completely with microsoft office? sometimes, it is only that the basic or minimum software that installed into your computer..

you might have to CHANGE and follow that little setup. i hope you have the cd. you can REINSTALL or CHANGE INSTALLATIONS for a complete works launcher 7.0 office. that is my best guess, i think that this spreadsheet saving the first letter of any doc. is some glitch or something your computer caught. sorry it that wasn't much help... i tried.

If this is the only occurance I wouldn't worry about it. Paging is one way MS keeps up with whats going on. It could be that you had several things open and it lost track of where things were. This mostly happens on older machines running older ms operating systems. There are ways to make it perform better. Do a search on your error (page fault kernel 32 Windows xx) OS and see what others have done.

Hello,I am new to this forum and not very computer literate. The computer in question is running Vista Home Premium. The problem that has recently occured is that it comes up with "MICROSOFT WORKS 8 NOT WORKING" every time I try to open the calender.
Any advice would be appreciated,

Thanks

Michael

A:microsoft works 8

You aren't the only one experiencing this problem. I did a little research on this. MS Works 9 was the edition that was recommended for Vista. Some Works 8 users have been able to run it in Vista (those using the 8.5 edition or later seem to be getting fewer error messages - but not all); but it seems most users are getting the error message you got.

You might want to try using the free office suite LibreOffice (formerly known as OpenOffice). It will open your Works files. It will not save files in that format, but you will be able to save them in MS Office formats, or the default Open Document format. LibreOffice is available from www.libreoffice.org

If you are looking for something with a calendar, try Windows Live Essentials email program Windows Live Mail. It has a calendar available as part of the program (similar to Outlook). http://explore.live.com/windows-live-essentials.

I am attempting to set up a credit card log in microsoft works. After bringing up the template for credit card log showing column's, I enter card number in first column then click to next column, type, to enter type of card. When I do this the previously entered card number changes and adds (E+14) to the number I have entered. What am I doing wrong? Why does the number change?

A:microsoft works

While I never use Works, that problem is also in Excel so will comment on that, it should apply.

You need to format the cell holding the credit card number as text, because it is interpreting the card number as a very long number and truncating it as you see.

You could try widening the column also, however using text would help more.
Try using spaces in the number? (i.e. 1234 5678 0123456)

Welcome to TSG!

What does "it comes up all encrypted" mean? Exactly what do you do to open it?
Which program in it did you try to open, the spreadsheet, word processor, database?
We cannot see what you're getting so if you can just tell us exactly what happened from start to finish, we can probably figure it out.

Every time I open Microsoft Works a message appears saying "More than 500 fonts are in the system. Reduce the number of fonts or the display may be incorrect". What on earth can I do to correct the number of fonts?

A:Microsoft Works

Fonts are in the C:\windows\fonts folder. You know what I did? I went into Windows Explorer and I created another folder right next to that one called Fontsmore, and I drug a whole bunch of fonts into that one. If I needed them again, I added them back in--but only as I needed them. Be careful which ones you move.

Hi, I recently bought a new computer that has windows Vista on it. Instead of having the old microsoft word, it has microsoft works word processor. I have a password protected .doc file and I can't open it with microsoft works. Does anyone know how to open the file? I could retype it but I don't know how to password protect microsoft work documents. If anyone knows anything it'd be great. Thanks =)

I am trying to install additional Works 2002 programs on my system. However it no longer gives me the option to do a typical, complete, or custom install. It just does a minimal install. How can I get it to give me these options again? Should I just reinstall everything all over again?

Thanks in advance.

A:Microsoft Works

Probably best to uninstall and re-install. Shouldn't take log at all.

I have read that the compatible version is Microsoft Works 9 for Vista, but I've also read that there is an update for Microsoft Works 8 which makes it compatible with Vista. I just wondered if there is someone in the know who can tell me if Microsoft Works 8 will work with Vista, as I have a chance to get this at a very cheap price?

A:Microsoft Works 8

I am having trouble printing in Microsoft Works Database. I get the "Out of Memory" message, and have tried all of the things I have seen posted in various places to resolve the problem, but to no avail. It is the old 2003 version of Works. I am trying to print from an HP computer to an HP printer as well.

Does the problem only occur with MS Works or does it occur for other programs?

I just bought a new computer which has windows xp on it. My old computer
is using windows 98, my question is this. On the windows 98 machine I was using microsoft works version 6.0 spread sheet. The new machine has Excel
is there any way that I can convert the works files to excel files so that excel
can read the files. Or am I better off putting works spreed sheet on the new machine
Thanks Guys

Welcome Gary.

>> is there any way that I can convert the works files to excel files

Yes. In Works, choose Save As from the File menu. Under "Save As Type", there should be various Excel options.

>> am I better off putting works spreed sheet on the new machine

It's up to you. Excel has very many more features than Works spreadsheet ; then again, Works also comes with word processor and database applications, which you may not have on your new PC. If it's "Works Suite", then it also has Word. You could have Works and Excel on the new one, if space isn't an issue.

Rgds,
Andy

Hi, I have about 20 PCs here at work, all with Windows XP Pro SP3, and only a portion of them does it do anything at all when I go to print to the shared FAX via Microsoft FAX...

I've been trying to get it to work on mine first, then once I figure that out, I can get it working on the rest of them... So, I went to one of the computers that it does work on to find some files that my system said it was missing when I tried to open up the Microsoft FAX Console... these files were, FXSAPI.DLL, FXSTIFF.DLL, fxslnt.exe. Once I copied those to my system, the Microsoft FAX Console would open up, but still it did nothing when I would try to print to the shared FAX. I noticed in the configuration it was set to use my Sprint Aircard as a fax, so I disabled it and went through the configuration again, so that it wouldn't have a local fax to try to use, but that still didn't work...

I have been all over the internet and have spent several hours trying to make this work ... My boss is very adament that I get this working... I would appreciate any assistance in this matter that can provided...

Windows 8.1 seems to have changed the way user shell folders get accessed.
In Windows 7 I 'Located' my documents folder to 'J:\My Documents' - a separate physical drive.
I upgraded to Windows 8 with no problem, and I see references to files in the registry like this below:
Windows 8
"File4"="J:\\My Documents\\Native Instruments\\Reaktor5\\Library\\Ensembles\\My Ensembles\\Mash-ups\\jiTTer v2+Sonitarium+Ryuchi+TT02samp.ens"
That was extracted from the last registry I saved in Windows 8.
After the 8.1 upgrade (Windows 8 Pro with Media Center -> Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center) I see this:
Windows 8.1
"File5"="C:\\Users\\Jim\\Documents\\My Documents\\Native Instruments\\Reaktor5\\Library\\Ensembles\\My Ensembles\\Mash-ups\\jiTTer v2+Sonitarium+Ryuchi+TT02samp.ens"
The problem is that I don't have a path 'C:\Users\Jim\Documents\My Documents'
I had a heck of a time getting 8.1 to find my documents.
I eventually fixed it by using 'Locate' to move it to 'J:\Documents'.
Unfortunately that copied (duplicated) my 160 GB documents folder and took a long time. The Locate tab says this is a move, but it isn't, it's a copy.
After that things seemed OK and I deleted the old stuff.

A:Windows 8.1 seems to change the way 'My Documents' works

I think this post may explain the problem cause. I have 6 SATA drives.

I am still keeping my documents in c:\docs\ - Am I mad?

Hi,

I have asus p5q for now and 2X320Gb sata drives in Raid 0. For example of my motherboard failure , can i then use this raid array on another motherboard and pc.

Can I even use this raid on the same model motherboard. If so will this motherboard recognise drives automaticaly or i still need to create raid using on-board-raid-controler software that i used to make raid first.

A:Does Raid Works When I Change Motherboard

Same motherboard should be no problem.

Equal (same chipset) motherboard, might work.

Different chipset motherboard, likely a redo.

A:Onli Internet Explorer WOrks. Nothing Else works

This has to be an internet problem. Check the connections between the computer and your router/modem - make sure they are tight. Check your phone connection between the modem and the wall socket. When you say that various programs don't work what exactly doesn't work? Do they start up okay?

If the connections are okay then try pinging a remote address. Click on "Start|Run" and type "cmd" (enter). In the box that opens type "ping www.microsoft.com" and press enter. If the net is connected you will get 4 results back. If it comes up "Timed Out" then the problem is with your net connection and not the computer.

Also, to find out exactly where the problem lays, in the CMD box type "tracert www.microsoft.com" and press enter. This will tell you how far the signal is getting before it times out. If NOTHING comes up then the problem is between the computer and router. If it gets one result only then the problem is between the router and the internet (which could be an ISP problem).

Hello and hopefully someone can help me out.

I am running a Dell computer using Windows XP. A few days ago my mother-n-law got a virus on our computer by clicking on spam e-mails. I figured out how to get rid of the virus but I think I made something happen where the PC will not connect to the internet. I have it connected to a Netgear Router. Now the Router is fine. I can access the internet off of my laptop with no issues. When I try the PC I can't access the net. When I go to Control Panel - Network Connections - Local Area Connection - Support Tab my computer doesn't have an IP Address. I've tried getting into the Router using 192.168.1.1 but the computer won't let me. I'm not sure where to go from here. I've tried calling Tech Support but they couldn't help me. Hopefully you guys can help me out with this one.

Thank you for your time.

Would like to uninstall Microsoft Works 9 (trial) from my windows 7 home premium computer.

My concern is that I have heard that when you uninstall this from the add/remove from the control panel, that there are afew items that do not get uninstalled.

If this is true, could you please tell me how to completely remove this from my computer.

I have just installed Open Office (free) on this computer.
Thank you.

A:microsoft works 9 trial

Simply use Revo Uninstaller. It scans your computer after running the program's uninstaller, and deletes the leftovers if you tell it to.http://www.revouninstaller.com/I use it all the time, and I'm sure more than a few people can vouch for it's reliability.

Last year I puchased a new computer with Windows XP. Most of the files were retrieved from the old C drive and installed on my new computer. I have been using Microsoft Works Calendar for many years, and rely on it for reminders to pop up. I recently had the business where I purchased the computer look at it because of a start up problem. Since then, it seems the reminders do not pop up for the specified time I want them to any longer, i.e., a meeting 3 days from now and a reminder would be put into the window and then click on OK. In the past, I've never had a problem with getting the reminders until recently. Do you have any suggestions? Barbara

How do I set the defaults on Microsoft Works so that
(1) when I fill in a cell and hit Enter, it stays on that cell? Right now it automatically is moving down one?
(2) when I save, the next time I open that file, it opens at the same place?
(3) I have 4 subdirectories in my MS works folder. When I open one file, then want to open another file, sometimes it puts me in my subdirectory so that I can just open the next file, and other times it takes me back to my C drive and I have to open MS, then re-open my subdirectory. How can I default for that?
Thanks.

hello!
My Composition teacher has a rule that we need to highlight the starter words in Red..
I have no clue how to do that! she says i really need to figure it out! please help!

thanks!

A:Microsoft Works (highlighting)

It has been so long since I have used MSWorks- but let me give you a nudge in the right direction (& if I stray too far- perhaps a more recent user will be along soon).

Highlight or select the word or words you wish to target (left-click on your mouse at the first letter you wish selected and drag through to the last & release the left button). Most word processing programs have a menu titled "Format" and one of the choices will be "Character" (or titles similar). That should present you with several ways to format a character or group of characters in your composition- including the choice of color. Choose the color you wish and left-click once again to release the highlighted word/s. That should do it.

Another way of doing the same thing in most word processing programs is to highlight the words once again. Look on the toolbar for an icon (usually a capital "A" or the letters "ABC" or something similar)- and see if there is a dropdown menu- (downward pointing arrow or carrot)- right beside it- select that and a pallate of colors should be made available- choose the one you wish- and once again left-click on your mouse if needed to release the highlighted text.

Hope this helps- and welcome to the forums

I am familiar with the Excel program, and was wondering if there is any way to create a workbook using Microsoft Works.

I can create lot's of single sheets, but would ultimately like to have my figures, formulaes etc. show up on different sheets at the same time. It would really make my life a whole lot easier!

Thanks for your help

A:workbooks in microsoft works?

I don't want to swear to my answers, because my version of Works is old. But for this question, Excel has at least two advantages over a Works spreadsheet:

1. It already has workbooks.

2. It's backed by Visual Basic, so you can customize it.

My version of Works doesn't support external references, either; if yours does, you could try to use that as a workaround. To create an external reference, type an equals sign and then click on the cell in the other sheet you want to refer to. If Works still doesn't support that, then your solution is to go back to Excel and use that. Hopefully, it's not too hard to open Works sheets in Excel by now. But if it's still a bear, use cut and paste.
