Hello, when I start my computer (Windows XP SP3) I get a command prompt window stating:The operation has completed successfullyThe operation has completed successfullyThe operation has completed successfullyThe operation has completed successfullyThe command prompt location is: "C:\Documents and Settings\[my login name]\Local Settings\Temp" and the file is called 599.exeI'm not sure what this file is, I scanned with Norton Internet Security 2009 and it did not detect a virus. I've scanned my computer with Spybot search and destroy and NIS to see if I have any virus's or spyware etc. nothing comes up.Below is the DSS.txt file, attached is the attach file.I've removed any instances of my login name and replaced it with "[login name]" the weird thing is the 599.exe process running the in background and the very very odd thing is the folder which has random numbers and then my full name "C:\Program Files\1218164934" as processes. Folder contains: "[full name]1218164934L.exe", "[full name]1218164934W.exe" and a folder with my full name. inside that folder are the following files: "1218164934.box1", "1218164934.box2", "1218164934.box3", "12181649341", "12181649342". A:On windows XP SP3 start - Command prompt message: The operation has completed successfully (4x)

on the next restart my computer went haywire. I guess I needed a restart to figure out the problem. 'Advanced virus remover' was the problem, spybot search and destroy cleaned it all out. I cleaned out my temp folder to stop the 599.exe (nero was not the problem as I uninstalled it and still received the screen). I edited the start menu items to take out 599.exe and a file called winupdate.exe which was also put there along with another file similar to it that had been put in my prefetch folder with a .pf extension. I deleted the [my full name] folder and misc. files in there by booting into linux. Also I had this problem ( hxxp://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090708110026AAvP5bk ) I followed the directionsDownload LSPFix.exe from http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm and run. Check Off <I know what I'm doing...> Move Winhelper.dll to the Remove side. Click Finish. Reboot.I should have guessed something like that was up since firefox worked fine (except for that problem) and IE couldn't even connect.Hope that helps anyone with the same problem as me!

Can someone please help me with the followiing error?

Windows can't open Add a Printer Operation could not be completed (error 0x000006b5)

I am able to run Add a printer using the command prompt rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /il"

When the Add a printer window opens I get as far as selecting the port and there are no ports listed not even in the drop down. It worked fine yesterday and nothing new has been installed or uninstalled. I have tried disconnecting my printer from the desktop and rebooting without the printer and then reconnecting the printer and rebooting, Nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium x64.

I admit I even tried to add the printer on my Vista Laptop, Windows 7 laptop and the printer seems to be crapping out on each one. I am thinking it is possible my printer is dead but can someone confimr that?

I used to have two desktops A & B, they have internet sharing and printer sharing , they were working fine.

Desktop A XP Professional SP2 PC has got two printers (HP and Samsung) connected directly (USB cable), and Printer sharing is turned on .

I bought another Desktop to replace B, because B is an old PC.

From the Desktop B (XP Professional SP2), when attempting to chose the option :
A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer Click to expand...

, to add a shared printer , I can browse and see the printers name (hp and Samsung), however, when I attempt to
connect both of them, I get the following error:
cannot connect to the printer operation could not be completed errorClick to expand...

Do I need to have admin account with their passwords on both Desktop to be able to share the printers ?

I have seen this, but I could not find as solution to my case.

I try to change the priority of warcraft 3 but it tells me "the operation could not be completed access is denied". Yes I am the only user and administator on the pc so how can I make the warcraft 3 priority higher? I play the game sometimes and when I do I lag in this game called green td because of to many monsters or something. I know its not my pc because I can play GTA IV on high/highest on all settings at 1920x1080 resolution with a solid 25 fps with normal priority. Anyways here my specs:

AMD Phenom II X2 511 3.4Ghz
5gigs of ddr3 ram
Nvidia Geforce 9600 GSO verto 768MB GDDR3
750GB HD with 435GB free

Green td is the only game I lag at so I wanna try changing the priority but I can't so any help would be great.

I also have a good internet plan so I am not sure why I lag. I have a 25/25 Mbps plan from verizon fios.

A:the operation could not be completed access is denied

Hello iseeu1001,

Why do you want to change the priority of Warcraft (I am assuming the process)?

Also, I am not familiar with Green TD... I don't know if changing the priority of the process will help your lag at all.

Some programs cannot be terminated via task manager, however, try opening your web browser and then try to terminate it.
For Internet Explorer the process is IEPLORER.EXE or iexplorer.exe (WARNING!: Do not terminate explorer.exe, terminate iexplorer.exe)
For Mozilla Firefox the process is firefox.exe

An old GF called me with a *lovely* problem..

She was cleaning up old files on her machine.. And seems to have cleaned way too much.

Now, when she tries to use the add printer wizard, she gets 'Operation Could Not be completed'. I checked Microsoft, and got info on the spooler not running. Trying to start the spooler (which DOES show stopped) get's a 1068 error.

I'm NOT an XP person (She's got XP Home).. and she's in another state, so I'm helping via the phone... We've been trying to use the Restore, but it keeps failing, and suggesting we try a different restore date/time.

On older systems, I'd know what to do, but under XP, I have no clue.. Any ideas? Or even ideas where to start?

Thanks!

*edit*
Oh! It's a cannon printer (not that she's getting far enough for it to be relevant), and she's tried using the install CD that came with the printer, only to have it tell her that installation has failed.

-Thanks!

============================

Yeah! It's resolved... But, for posterity, I figured I should say how...

When she was deleting the programs, there were a few things that she though were old, but she couldn't get rid of for some reason. So she changed (don't shudder) them from .exe files to .old files.

When looking at the Spooler, and the dependancies and such, she noticed one file name that she remembered doing that to... She undid it (by hand),.... and Ta da! All fixed!

I'am trying to install a printer on my friend's machine, but I still have getting message: Printer Driver Was Not Installed. Operation Could Not Be Completed". No matter which model, just general for all printers. Most funny is that computer recognize the printer, but won't install drivers.
I found similar problem in other forum, but no answer.

Hello,
I'm not able to add a printer driver using the standard printer wizard or otherwise. I get the generic message, "Printer driver was not installed. Operation could not be completed." I'm logged on as administrator, the spooler is running, I've installed SP2, and this problem exists for all the printers I have tried.
It doesn't seem to matter which model I try to install. One is an HP 4500DN, another is an HP 5si. I have the latest drivers and have tried downloading the latest drivers, but I still get the message.
Dave

Any idea what's wrong? I have some experience, but I'v never seen this kind of problem before.

As I know computer was cleaned from viruses. I guess some trojans made a huge disorder in this system.

When I scanned a disc with "chkdsk /r" command I recognized two partitions (systems?), I mean C:\Windows, and D:\MiniNT.

What is MiniNT? I read this problem can occur also if there is two systems on the disc.

I have no more ideas, maybe somebody has more xperience in this area?

I will appreciate for any help.

We are migrating from XP to Windows 7 and using USMT offline to migrate user settings etc.
Network printers are migrated but on the users first login if the user tries to set their default printer they receive the following error message:-

"Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709) Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network."

The printer is in fact installed and it is possible to print a test print, just not set the default printer.

The issue is resolved by restarting the print spooler (or logging out and back in or rebooting or re-installing the printer) so is only
an issue during the users first login.                                                                                                                             ... Read more

Hi,
According to the error message, I assume that the spooler service cannot find out the printer on the network.

You may set the startup type of Printer Spooler service to Manual or Delayed Start for a test.Juke Chou

hi there

i am trying to copy some media files from my mp3/videoplayer (Archos AV500) to my computer.

However, when i try to do this i receive the following message

"Not enough storage is available to complete this operation"

Now i dont understand this as i have over 10gb of space on my computer and the file size is only 1.85gb, i have also tried copying the file onto an external hard drive that has over 200gb of space and i still get the error message.

The file is an avi file, my computer runs windows xp, i'm not sure what other info you require so if there is anything i left out please let me know so i can provide it.

I googled my problem and found many people getting the same error message when they used word or other situations, one guy said that the error message was a very old message and sometimes it comes up when a file is corrupted could this have something to do with it?

Many Thanks

Carl

Do one of the following, then retry the operation: (1) reduce the number of running programs; (2) remove unwanted files from the disk the paging file is on and restart the system; (3) check the paging file disk for an I/O error; or (4) install additional memory in your system.

When I try to move a folder into another folder (sub-folders into the main "MY DOCS" folder, I get the error message: "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open. Close the file and try again."

NO, no other folders are open; went to task manager and made sure. No backup running. I've tried a web search others have had this issue. The suggestion was to empty the temp folder, but this didn't help.

Any advice? This happens for ANY folder I try to dump into the main one.

Printers that were installed prior to the SP3 update function properly. But when trying to install a new printer by either using a printer manufacturer's installation disk, or by simply using Windows 'add a printer' wizard, the error message "Printer driver was not installed. Operation could not be completed." appears. This occurs when I attempt to install any printer from the list of printers shown in the wizard.

One other point to note is that when using the add a printer wizard, no printers are shown in the window that asks me to choose a printer from the list. Based on other XP/Vista machines, there should be a list of printers shown. When I choose "Windows Update", a list of printers eventually populates, but when I attempt to install any of these printers, I get the same error message after the driver files seem to copy to my PC (after pressing the 'Finish' button)

When I attempt install a random printer, the drivers do in fact successfully copy to the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\W32X86 prior to getting the error message. However, the printer does not show up in the list of printers available in the "Printers and Faxes" window.

I also removed the W32X86 folder from the drivers folder, and the new W32X86 that was subsequently re-created upon restarting the computer was also able to accept new printer drivers, BUT when attempting to install a printer using the wizard, after the files were successfully ... Read more

Hi,

After trying to upgrade to Windows 10 from 8.1 on my Inspiron 7000, my Windows install would freeze during the start up process - the Dell logo would appear and the loading icon would stop. I had Linux installed on a separate partition so I went into the BIOS and moved Ubuntu ahead of Windows - this was the mistake. After exiting, I get the error message "Operation System not found". When I start up, I see the options F2 Setup and F12 Boot Options, however I cannot access either - the text will become bolded to show that I have selected it but I always get brought to the same screen which says "Operation System not found".
Any ideas on how to proceed? I don't mind losing the files and folders on the device, I just want to be able to use the laptop again.

Thanks.

A:"Operation System not found" error message on Inspiron 7000

It looks like the MBR or GPT that tells the BIOS/UEFI where to start booting has been messed up.  If you created restore media before upgrading to Windows 10, I'd use that and start all over.  If not, you can go here to download or order your recovery media.

Tick the Custom listing and click on it's down arrow on the right end,
Choose a default email program,
Is your program listed,
Tick the box next to it and check the box to the right end of it,

Ok, all the problems started here...A message popped up from the taskbar, a file name with a *.dll extension (forgot the name of the file) has been corrupted - run chkdsk. So I restarted the computer and it did a check for errors after bootup. I tried to open windows media player right after all this. The following message was displayed, " Can't perform operation, low memory", with a loud beep. Similarly none of the audio players work, all of them give different messages. I can play a game (NFSU2) but with no audio. Norton Antivirus gives me a message too "Internal program error". Moreover, Copy and Paste doesnt work, Internet Explorer - right click and open in new window doesnt work, does work on mozilla though. Windows XP is also taking longer time to load.

Dont know whats going on , could it be a virus? Please help...Thank You

I'm having the same problem. Internet Explorer is also behaving strangely, many links don't work as they should. Outlook Express (XP) has plenty of room to suck down 30 or more new incoming emails but if I dare hit 'create email' I get the awful beep and the message about low mem. Same thing as you for media. I can't even open most pictures with the viewer. I can only see those in paint and audio or .avis, forget it.

Grr. I only bloody formatted and installed 2 days ago from a completely new HDD! No way I got the dreaded lurgie virus in that time, despite not running an antivirus since the installer for McAfee (bought over the net from their site) is on my accidentally wiped HDD and I've only made up this install to get all that kind of data back. Tomorrow antivirus goes on -all my critics, 0_o Also this partition is 200gb (170gb show up in properties). Windows XP takes up 4gb.

I'm thinking we both could have a buggered virtual memory file. I just partitioned within windows using Partition Manager to test it out by splitting my drive in half, while getting used to it in the hope I could use it to get my data back. Didn't work but I bough R-Studio in the end and all appears happy. I just wish I could test all my .avi and .jpg files! I'm not sure if they've been resurrected off my dead HDD properly bc windows is already having this problem with the multimedia software!

This a Tiny URL of the 2 mile long link by Symantec and my problem:
http://tinyurl.com/arngx
For some strange reason my NIS 2003--the NAV part of it--is giving me a warning that a complete scan of my hard drive was not completed. I have had WinXP Pro set for automatic scan each Friday since I installed NIS last November on WinXP. Would a System Restore be in order? And if so, how would I do that? I was out of town each of the past 2 Fridays and those scans were not done. A scan would be done tomorrow night but now, of course, that will not be done because of my problem. I have the NIS installation CD but I do not want to have go through that "**((#" uninstall/reinstall routine again. (I had to do that with NIS 2002 just a few days ago for some other reason. Not resolved either so I switched to AVG.)
In addition to this scan problem, my virus definitions were not updated even though automatic updates are set to be done so I went to the Symantec site and downloaded/installed the latest updates so I am not worried about that.
Does anyone have a work around the problem I have posted? And I hope I have described the problem well enough for someone to help me. As usual, TIA.
BTW, I have been using NIS/NAV for several years and all of a sudden I begin having problems. Puzzled!!
EDIT: I have just run Panda and Trend Micro Housecall and both gave me a clean bill of health

I assume you are using Internet Explorer 7. If so, try reinstalling it. Go Start > Control Panel > Add and Remove Programs and remove Internet Explorer 7. This will roll you back to Internet Explorer 6. Then go to this site, download and reinstall Internet Explorer 7.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled. Also make sure that Display the contents of System Folders' is checked. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Download CWShredder and click on Fix (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you). If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. ... Read more

i keep getting an illegal operation message when i try to go to solitaire, and when i just went to internet explorer i got this message also. by the way, i looked at some other posts on here of the same problem, and one of the suggestions was to go to add/remove programs and uncheck solitaire, and then do the reverse and check it, well i'm not the best with computers and i unchecked games because it wouldn't let me get to just one specifically, and when i went to do the reverse and restore it... well, obviously i couldn't because i didn't know that you had to have the disc to restore it... so anyway, now i have no games lol.... anyway, what do i do about this illegal operations message?

A:illegal operation message constantly

I've had a computer for 6 years and have never gotten a real (consistent) answer to what this "illegal operation" is. The best answer I've gotten is "it just a computer thingy".
Someone recently told me she was not using her computer because a message came up and told her she was ILLEGAL and she didn't know what she was doing wrong and didn't want to take any chances.

I usually figure it means there's not enough memory or something is clashing (though I believe this is what a BLUE SCREEN is) or not right (somewhere) at least at the time. With my first computer I would get it when I tried to copy and paste too much at one time.

I don't know much about it, either, but I don't think it has anything to do with what programs you have in or not. It just seems to come at random. Sometimes when I close something (like Paint Shop Pro) and go on to something else, the message will popup with Paint Shop Pro on the top, saying this. I just click it to close because I've already closed it.

If I get it a lot with the same program I go do "disk clean up" and that seems to help. or, maybe it's my imagination.

It will be interesting to see if anyone has any real, clear explainations about this.

I think it might be something built into WINDOWS to make people wonder

I have been getting an error message "You have performed an illegal operation. This program will shut down." when printing from different applications (Quick Books Pro, Quattro Pro, Excel, Internet Explorer ...) This happens anywhere from on the first document printed or after printing up to 15 or 20 successfully. In order to print from any application again I have to reboot. Before rebooting I have checked the printers and there are no printers listed! I have a local HP Deskjet 712C and a networked HP LaserJet 5000 installed. My OS is Windows 98.

For april fools I got a virus.....My sister shared it unknowing through email. I went to House Calls and scanned my system and sure enough I had 16 infected files that were marked uncleanable. Instructions were to delete these files. There was then a fix to download to prevent and fix further damage. I did that. The virus I got is called PE_MAGISTR. Now when I boot my computer up it goes through everything like clockwork until my desktop is supposed to open, then I only get a mouse pointer and my wall paper for about 4 minutes or so. When all else such as taskbar, system tray, and icons come up I get a illegal operation message for spool 32. some of my programs drag in opening or moving from one function to another. I am guessing it has to do with this error but I don't know. My printer is gone and I will just reinstal that. I am sure there a few tale tale things here and there that I haven't found yet. I really don't want to have to wipe my drive and redo things that presents another list of problems I could get through it but really don't want to. When returning to House Calls I now check out clean. I did do a scan disk and defrag.......it took forever but it did finally get through it. Please advise to what I can do to correct this problem.
Thanks so much .......Suze

Hi, I just built a new computer, and it's running XP Pro 64-bit. It ran fine for the first week, but now I'm getting a problem everytime I open "My Computer". Instead of showing my drives, it does the search animation. After a minute or two, it will either find all the drives, or it will say something like "This operation could not be completed because (something) is being used by another program." and gives me two options: "Retry", or "Switch To". When I click "Switch To" it opens my "Start" menu.

A (possibly) related problem is when I open IE, I get shown a set-up menu, but when I click "Save Changes" the webpage hangs. I can bypass this and use the internet fine though. Also, my computer randomly hangs sometimes when playing games.

I'm pretty disappointed with all these errors on what was supposed to be my fresh computer... Any help is appreciated.

G'day, I'm running Windows 7 Home premium on a Dell Inspiron laptop.

When I am trying to organise my music files and folders in my music Library I randomly get this error:

The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program.

But there can be nothing else open, no media player, (neither WMP or Media Monkey which I usually use), or any other window open at all. This is intermittent. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

For example; I just discovered that I have a Chris De Burgh folder with a couple albums in it and another folder titled Chris De Burgh - Greatest Hits. I decided to move the latter into the former and rename the latter to simply Greatest Hits. At first it wouldn't copy into the Chris de Burgh folder at all and the dreaded error came up. I clicked on another folder, went back and tried again and it worked. After putting the CDB-GH folder into the CDB one I tried to rename it, (without opening it). The action can't be completed blah blah blah. Retry doesn't work. This time I had to close windows explorer and open it again and browse to the folder and rename it.

Sometimes it works first go, sometimes you have to click elsewhere then come back to it, sometimes you have to close explorer, sometimes it simply refuses until I restart the pooter. I've tried deleting everything in the temp folder, (%temp%) but there are files in here which won't delete either coming up with the same message. I guarantee that the f... Read more

When opening Internet Explorer in Win 98 system, I get the following message "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down" Details say Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module URLMON.DLL at 0187:la406b8d.

I have no idea why this is happening, for unlike my username of Mr. Spock, I am not too techy. I have tried to do start/run, etc., to find this file, but am told that there is no pathway to URLMON.DLL. Maybe that's the problem, no pathway. When I do a file search for it, it shows up about 4 times. I have run virus scans on the files and nothing is infected.

I downloaded some PCbug thing that cost $60, but it did nothing to fix this. Can anyone out there give me instructions on how to correct this problem in a way that a retarded dog could understand? I am not afraid to go into the registry, but would need detailed instruction. I would really appreciate some help here. Thanks.

Create a folder on your hard drive for Hijackthis, like My Documents\HJT
Click on this link http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe and save the file into the folder you have created.
Unzip the file to the folder.
Scan your machine, then click on Save Log.

This error does not occur every time.

The issue:
When attempting to Forward an email, Outlook will open a recent message from the Sent Items folder, instead of opening the desired message in draft view to be forwarded. The message that Outlook decides to open is not related to the desired email thread.

I have:
Run the Microsoft Office Repair;
Removed and re-installed MS Office;
Run ScanPst on all Archives;
Disabled cached exchange mode, cleared the cache, re-enabled;
Removed additional personal IMAP email accounts from Outlook.

This PC is a Dell Optiplex 755 Small Form Factor with Core 2 Duo and 2GB RAM.
About a month ago the Hard Drive was predicted to fail, so I created a Windows Image from the Windows backup utility, swapped in a new hard drive, and applied the Image.

I tried searching the issue, but Google could not provide any help on such an obscure issue but with terms common to other problems.

Please Help

I have been trying to backup my C drive in preparation for cloning and installing a larger SSD drive. I am pretty sure that I have backed up my PC using win 7 backup before, but the last time was sometime last year. I previously burned my backup to disc, but this time I decided to backup to my networked My Book Live (2T). Each time I try it, I get the " Windows backup skipped backing up system because one of the critical volumes is not having enough space...". I have searched the "net" pretty extensively trying to find out why. My only feasible guess has something to do with the shadow storage. When it would not backup to the network drive, I tried one of my internal drives ( 465GB w/ 413GB free), with the same results. My C drive (120GB SSD) has 14.3GB free, but I don't know if this would affect it. I have watched the backup program progress and when it gets to 50% complete, it stops and give the error. I have even gone into an elevated command prompt and Typed 'vssadmin list shadowstorage' to look for the max storage space available, but could not find anything for my "G" drive or my network drive. Am I going in the right direction, or should I be looking for something else? If this gets to become more of a hassle than it's worth, I may just bite the bullet and do a fresh install on my new SSD drive. Any suggestions?

A:backup cannot be completed. Insufficient space. Error code 0x81000033

Since you have a WD hdd, download the Acronis Trueimage - free.
This will backup your C drive and allow you to restore it to your new SSD.
A clean install is probably your bet at this time -although either will work.
WD Support
FWIW -If you keep just OS and programs on your current SSD and keep it at about 75%, you can save your money on a larger SSD.

I have a problem similar to this issue..... none of the personal information, just commonlities when I downloaded and ran ComboFix....... Please help, I need my computer asap, I'm an online student....Thanks so much
"I ran ComboFix because my computer had some serious virus. I found ComboFix through another site and did not see the disclaimer about using it under the instruction of professionals.

The virus i had before showed up on AVG as Trojan Horse Crypt.EML. However, AVG couldn't get rid of it. The site i found just told me just to run ComboFix and it would work.

Anyways, ComboFix ran fine and generated a log report.

However, now all my programs won't work and instead say "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion."

I have the log report and all other files generated by ComboFix if anybody needs them.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium.

Can somebody please help me fix this???"

Hi Dame1220Firstly, for the benefit of both you and others reading this thread, please take note of the following:ComboFix (CF for short) is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for personal, unsupervised use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. When CF is run without trained assistance, it can no longer be considered a "safe" tool. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again. You may find this topic to be informative - ComboFix usage, Questions, Help? - Look hereSecondly, in regards to your issue. Reboot the computer again. That should set everything straight.~Blade

Just thought I'd post this as a help to those who may run into this problem. Had a customer who simply could not get on the internet (running XP with cable connection). Here's what I did in an attempt to solve the issue, all to no avail:

1. Uninstalled all garbage applications in Add/Remove programs
2. Ran Adaware 6.181 (found lots o'baloney)
3. Installed and ran Antivir antivirus; found Worm/Sorbig.A
4. Ran Spybot S&D (found even MORE junk)
5. Deleted all temp files on comp.

At my wits end, called his cable provider. We first completely unplugged his modem, then attempted "ipconfiig /release" and "ipconfig /renew". This is the error received:

Operation Was Attempted on something that is not a Socket

Tech guy on other end said to look at MICROSOFT KNOWLEDGE BASE ARTICLE 318584 for the fix. I have to return to the customer's location today, but essentially it involves a Winsock error in XP, and that's what's causing the "no internet" problem. So remember that 318584 KB article the next time you run into this.

A:(FYI) Operation...Not a Socket Error

Uh, well, no, this did NOT fix the problem. After spending several hours going round and round with Adaware, Spybot and Hijack This, along with several alledged XP TCP/IP fixes posted in several different locations here, we've decided on a clean install of XP. Ya know, it's just too bad that Windows doesn't let you uninstall then reinstall TCP/IP. Would probably save a lot o' headaches.

Whenever I try and backup my laptop to a USB drive I get error 51 (An error was detected on device ...during a paging operation) in the event log and my backup fails. I?ve tried with multiple USB drives and different backup software including Acronis True Image, Freecoms NTI Shadow 3 and the Windows 7 Backup tool. Each time a series of Event ID 51?s appear after a period of time and stops the backup.
Ive read other threads which suggested installing Hotfix 976972, but again this hasn?t fixed the problem. I have already tried Safe Mode and this has made no difference. The USB controllers have also been removed, and re-installed, but again no joy. I even tried copying the data in My Documents to a USB drive and that caused exactly the same event to be generated.

It would seem that there are other Users out there with exactly the same problem, but I haven?t come across a fix yet. Not being able to backup my laptop is a major concern and I?m thinking of reverting back to XP.
The problems started just over 2 weeks ago after a couple of months of problem free usage. I?m running Windows 7 32bit and have 4GB RAM.
Any thoughts?

The warnings are random and not connected to the starting or stopping of any particular operations. I recently formatted my HD for other reasons, but see no noticable change in Event 51 Warnings. Running chkdsk finds nothing and WD's diagnostic tool found no problems with my HD. Can anyone see anything in my log file (below) that gives any clue as to what is causing this warning? I have a dell optiplex workstation with 2 sata drives. One drive has two partitions labeled E: and F:

A few weeks ago i started getting errors stating:
"The driver detected a controller error on \device\harddisk1\d"

More recently, I have received warnings stating:
"An error was detected on device \device\harddisk2\D during a paging operation."

According to disk management, there is no "D" and there is no "harddisk2". I haven't noticed any performance issues but I am nervous about the state of the information on the drives.

Could anyone advise?

Trying to help someone out in the Crashes and Debugging forum.Windows 7 - Blue Screen Error. They're trying to run Memtest86+ but they're getting, for want of a better description, a screen error.

They've posted a screenshot here.

The wording behind the hotspot is 12K e820 off.

Can anyone shed any light on this? Its something I've never seen before and a Google search for "Memtest86+ error" gives all the results you would expect, regarding Memtest86+ "error", re: Ram. But nothing about an actual "Memtest86+ error"!

That is just saying memory (12k) at address (e820) is OFF, or wrong. Memtest could not proceed. Have them pull all but one stick and repeat.

Hello everyone, My laptop had been running fine until today when all of a sudden I saw that my audio said it was not running ,also there was a red X over my network connection and when I hover over it I get an error message saying "Not enough storage available to complete this operation". I have over 200GB free ! I have been searching all day and night for a solution and have tried many troubleshooting ideas. I have done disk cleanup, I have tried increasing IRPStackSize, and I was going to try to do a system restore but when I tried I got the error message. Also something weird I noticed while trying to do some cleanup, when I go into to add or remove programs it is showing that at least 80% of my programs were installed yesterday and those programs have been installed over a year ago and when I try to uninstall it says that it has already been uninstalled. Along with the message I get an error number 8007000E.I am running Vista Home Premium. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Where to start?

Desktop running windows xp pro kept looping and wouldn't boot. Tried last known good configuration, safe mode and they wouldn't start either. Tried the windows cd for a repair but that didn't get far and shut down restart occured part way through.

I decided just to go for a complete clean reinstall of windows xp and deleted it from the partition, chose the default partition, and other steps, and it was going well until it said it needed to shut down and restart before continuing. I let it close itself down and restart and then it got as far as saying 39 minutes to complete the installation but at that point shutdown again without restarting.

Each time I try starting up now it gets as far as 'setup is restarting' then closes down again.

I've tried starting over by hitting 'any key' to boot from CD but it still comes up 'setup is restarting'

I can't start in safe mode. I've unplugged everything except the keyboard but it makes no difference whatsoever.

The error message that flashes just before shut down says 'A write operation component was attempted after it was dismounted' -

What does that mean?

Why did the loop start happening in the first place?

I download updates from Mircrosoft automatically and after a look around the internet today it seems that maybe it could be related to XP Service pack 3 but I don't even know if this has been downloaded an installed. I did accept installing s... Read more

What antivirus software do you have? Or maybe a bad processor, if it overheated a lot? Download HWmonitor and keep an eye on the processor temps, try not to get anything over 65 degrees Celsius.

Can you help me resolve this problem? I am using Windows XP Home SP3 on a HP desktop. OK , here's the deal . I am putting together a system for a friend . It consist of

ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe mobo
P4 3.0E
WD 36 gig Raptor
the rest normal stuff

This is my first dealings with SATA . I hooked the SATA hard drive up using the SATA cable . I hooked his CDRW up using the regular IDE cable .

I installed Win XP . It installed ok , np . I then put in the mobo utility disk to load the drivers for the mobo , lan , usb , etc .

When I open my computer , double click on the D: drive the CDRW locks up and I get the error message:
"Only part or a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was completed"
But , I can right click on the cdrw drive and select open and it will open .

The C: drive opens fine .

I have changed ram , ram slots , CDRWs , the cdrw as Primary Master , primary slave , second master , second slave .
In the BIOS it shows the hard drive as the Third IDE Master . The cdrw is on the Primary or Secondary IDE , depending on the setup I am trying .

I checked the BIOS and I think I have everything setup right , but I dunno .

What am I doing wrong ?

I have looked everywhere on the web but nothing was solving my problem. If you know anything about this please respond.

Good evening,

I have a friend who is having an issue with a BSOD that I was hoping to help him resolve it. He states that occurs during normal operation, for example browsing the web and checking his email though that it is more likely during more taxing activities. He believes that the issue is specifically related to his graphics driver but isn't entirely sure. He is planning on upgrading to a new graphics card soon and currently he uses the onboard port. I've attached the BSOD message and the .DMP files, but please let me know if you need any additional information. Thank you.

Did you just put the music files on it or did you "create an audio CD" with software? Some domestic players do not, for example, play mp3's.Also did you use a CD-R or CD-RW? Domestic players do not always play CD-RW's (re-writeables).What file types are showing on the CD? If they are music files such as mp3s then what happens when you double click one?In odd cases drives can be fussy about particular brands.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Hi, Ive searched through the forums and have found old posts and topics relating to the Error Performing Inpage Operation error people will sometimes get on a failed HD or external HD, and have found many solutions to recovering your data in this case, but never once have I found an actual FIX for the problem to continue using the drive.

My External HD is pretty old in electronics standards these days (3 years -_-) and it has started to give me the following error

Cannot access drive X:

Error Performing Inpage Operation

the drive shows up in my computer, and I can even check its properties (although it shows an empty drive and most of the options are missing like drive quota), but it cannot be opened.

I have done some searching and so far the only thing anyone has come up with to fix it is chkdsk x: /f or chkdsk x: /r (I dont know what the f or r stand for, but those are the two different forms of chkdsk checks ive found in my searches) but it hangs up on both of them around step 3 or 4 of 5. Neither have solved the problem.

Now again im not trying to recover data, ive already found a program called File Scavenger that was able to tap into the drive and recover just about everything from my external (which was 1 TB worth of data, so im glad I was able to recover it all save a few replaceable things), so thats not my issue. The issue is that it is now recovered, but the drive is just sitting there as a pile of scrap metal as long as it still has this error. It cost me al... Read more

A:Fixing an Error Performing Inpage Operation HD

T, have you found an answer yet? I am in the same boat as you and would love to know the answer to your question. My HD was about 2 years old, but my crash happened during an electrical storm so I'm not sure how much age had to do with it.

I'll be tracking this thread for a response.

Thanks for any assistance anyone can provide.

Hello,

I've been having a problem for two days with chrome, I can not access tumblr not the whole site but the login page !!! when ever i go to tumblr.com/login the page takes ages to load.
and when it does load ' rarely' and i login, i should be transferred to my dashboard but instead i get the following ,

Quote:

This webpage is not available
Google Chrome could not load the webpage because Tumblr took too long to respond. The website may be down, or you may be experiencing issues with your Internet connection.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Check your Internet connection. Restart any router, modem, or other network devices you may be using.
Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall's or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to the Chrome menu > Settings > Show advanced settings... > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox.

Error 7 (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT): The operation timed out.

the second scenario is if the login page also doesn't open then the same error report happens !

I rebooted my computer and for some reason every time I tried to run almost any program it gives me the "error performing inpage operation" pop-up and the program doesn't start. So I checked for solutions online and I tried to do a disk check in the command prompt, as suggested. It told me that I couldn't perform one on both of my singular drives partitions and asked if I wanted to do a check on boot. I said yes, rebooted, and let it do the check. Eventually it had an error and restarted the check, at which point I power cycled the computer so I could skip the check and boot into Windows. Seeing as I compressed part of both HDD partitions some time after the boot that was right before the first mentioned boot (I made sure to NOT compress Windows and the boot sector files), I thought that I still compressed something that I shouldn't have (maybe the master file table?). Unfortunately when I was given the countdown prompt to optionally skip the check, it wouldn't respond to any key press and every time I try booting into Windows it now does this disk check. I also looked online for a solution to this and found a similar problem that Windows 7 users had, with the difference being that the countdown would stop at one and do nothing. They had an exe file for fixing it, but I wouldn't try that as I have Vista. I also turned off fast boot in the BIOS settings to ensure that the keyboard was usable, but I still had no response at the countdown. Oddly enough, I tried running... Read more

Get to the Command Prompt through the Recovery Disk:
At a command prompt, type the command CHKNTFS /X F: (This will tell Windows NOT to check the disk at boot time.) Reboot the computer, and unless another volume has issues, it will not pause for the CHKDSK facility before going back into Windows.

Dear all,
This is my first post.
Can anyone help with how to solve the following hard disc error please?
On booting up the system log shows disc error 51 - An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation

M$ says is means the drive is about to fail. I've got a full back up in case...

The error only appears on boot up but can end in a complete lock up and failure to boot.
It does not happen every time (say 1 in 10) and is more likely from a cold start.
The error is logged for about two seconds (ie multiple entries), no other system errors are reported.
I've replaced the hard drive and am getting the same error.
Changing the SATA lead to a new port makes no difference.

I'm using XP Home
1GB RAM,
SATA 300 GB drive

The drive is partitioned to C (installed OS) D (User data)
I've reformatted the drive - it shows no errors and reinstalled the OS.
I've also tried changing the page file settings - no change.

Any suggestions greatfully received.

Giles

A:Hard disc Error 51 during paging operation

Hi .Contrary to what you may have been told, that message is not the kiss of death .The problem is that there is much varied speculation about what causes this error...and little definitive info re cures/resolutions that I can understand.Your mention of the paging file...indicates that you've read some of the same situations. The fact that it happens at boot should be useful...but it's not for me. Where (exactly) in the boot process does this error kick in? When the system first starts to load? When some driver is being installed?http://support.packardbell.com/it/item/ind...;ppn=PB17B00706http://pcs.suite101.com/article.cfm/windows_xp_boot_sequenceI suppose that, in the face of such underwhelming evidence either way...the safe thing to do is assume that the drive is failing/faulty.I missed the most important info that you posted, my apologies . Since you have a D: partition, I would run chkdsk /r on that partition...then I would run a manufacturer's diagnostic on the entire drive (I don't think it differentiates between partitions on a drive).FWIW: I don't believe in any system having only one hard drive, having at least 2 gives user much better options in situations like yours.Louis

Hi guys, I was helping my girlfriend install a game on her computer the other night and she kept getting errors not allowing her to finish it. I recognized them as Windows Errors for NET 1.1+ and possibly something else. I then checked around to see if she had missed any windows updates which she had, so I had her install to the current standing ones and try again. She is now just getting one error in particular that says: Error System Invalid Operation Exception Error Cannot process the request because the process (2620) has exited. Then it lists strings of boolean items and it won't go away without forcing an Alt+Control+Delete. I have attached a screenshot of the error just in case. Anyone know how I can help her fix this? By the way, she is running an older Windows XP machine.

Based on what, please? What were the exact messages?

Did you uninstall/reinstall MS.NET 1.1?

System manufacturer and model?

Is NET 1.1 the latest version of NET installed?

A few days ago my computer started giving the "The operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator" and would not open some links in Outlook 2003.

I tried a lot of "fixes" found on the net and none worked.

This morning, I Googled the problem again and found that when Google Chrome is removed, it has caused this problem for others.
Then, I remembered that Google Chrome had caused me other problems when removed.

I had removed Google Chrome on Monday so I reinstalled it a few minutes ago and the problem went away. Now, I deleted the shortcut but left the program in place. It is a program that I did not like and did not use anyway.

I hope this saves someone else time spent on fixes that might not work. This may be an easy fix. I sure wish that I had never installed Google Chrome in the first place.

My Toshiba Satellite laptop had to be re formatted because it contained numerous problems. Also, it was extremely slow and did not respond most of the time. It came with Windows vista, but i decided to install windows xp on it. During the reformatting, the laptop shutoff by itself many times. Finally i got it to format, but then another problem occurred. When windows installed its files, it said " setup will now restart". After the restart and the loading screen, a blue screen appeared with the following error " a write operation was attempted to a volume after it was dismounted" or something. The error was only there for a fraction of a second, and then the computer restarted. This loop kept continuing without windows xp ever finishing it's installation. I also read on another post that you have to change something from raid to ide in the bios, but i do not know how to do that. I know how to access the bios, but i do not know how and where i can change this. So, my question is, how can i fully solve this problem?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH
