Welcome to TSG....

Try downloading the hard drive diagnostics from the manufacturers web sites for the hard drives. Run each one you might have one or more weak or ready to go south hard drive(s).

Over the last year, all the new hardware devices I have bought will not work on my laptop. When I plug in the devices, they just bring up the found new hardware wizard and never does it work. I even have the disc for all of them and it still just doesn't work. Specifically, I have a lexmark printer. I have downloaded the drivers on their website but I still cannot install the printer because halfway through installation, I have to plug in the printer to the computer and it cannot be recognized. I went to Sony Vaio's website and updated a few things. I believe I'm working on SP3 right now. any advice or suggestions?

I need to add that I cannot find the XP disc. I'm not sure whether it came with my computer when I bought it but I just can't find it.

A:Found New Hardware Wizard and Add Printer Wizard do nothing

Some USB devices...need to have the drivers installed/available...before the device can be recognized.

Whatever printer you are using...are you following the installation instructions provided by the printer manufacturer?

I have a Dell dimension 2400 with Windows XP service pack 2. Now at boot-up I get a hardware wiazard attempting to install drivers for unknown hardware. I lauch the wizard and it finds nothing. I insert my Canon cd with drivers and it still finds nothing. Under Printers my printer is on lpt1, online and the default printer. Under device manager it shows 4 unknown devices in yellow with yellow ? marks.

I have disabled and deleted these and they comeback each time the hardware wizard runs. The com1 and ecp printer 1 devices all show that they are working properly. I have deleted and attempted to reinstall software drivers . The installation process halts when the system attempts to ping the printer and determines that there is no connection between the desktop and the printer. I have rebooted the system and printer. I have checked the cable.

I have tried using all of the usb ports on the pc. I have swapped the cable out and tried a new cable. Bottom line Windows says that the com and lpt ports are working. I have checked connections. Is my controller card shot and windows doesn't realize that its dead. Or is there a registry issue since I had this spyware trojan virus. Any ideas? I have the answer for getting rid of the spy crusher virus if you are infected with the spycrusher Virus malware.

You might want to look at the Device Manager to see what type of device it is listed under. To access this follow these instructions:

Right Click MY COMPUTER
Select PROPERTIES
Click HARDWARE tab
Select DEVICE MANAGER
See what the Device Manager recognizes the device as.
Go to Dell.com and seach up the drivers for your computer.
If nothing else works, try installing all the drivers, Windows will tell you if the driver will work or not. Good luck and post results plz.

I am running xp sp2. Every time I boot up the wizard says it found new hardware (a sipix camera) which it wants to install. At one time I did install the camera but I could not update the driver or download pictures to the HD. So I removed the device in device manager and uninstalled the software application. I have tried letting the wizard go through the process and search online for driver. I tried windows installer cleaner. I have tried registry fixes. I have deleted sipix files from registry (some I have been unable to remove. Nothing has worked. The wizard still wants to install the sipix camera (not even connected to pc). HELP

Culver

A:New Hardware Wizard

Download & install RegSeeker.

Run a search of the Registry for "sipix". Post screen shot of the results here. Wouldn't advise deleting any entries. Stay away from Reg Cleaners, they cause more problems than they solve (which is none).

Are you absolutely certain the device that is being found is the one that has been long gone ? I've been in situations where it turns out that what I thought was an old device was actually something built into the motherboard.

A:new hardware wizard

hello shaun ,

this is just for starters on the issue / it may fix it / starter steps for trouble shooting

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

also

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

Does anyone know how to remove the different items in Device Manager? Everytime I boot, the new hardware wizard tells me I have new hardware. It tells me I have a UMAX scanner when I have a HP. In device manager under Imaging devices I have 4 unknown devices listed, 3 with X's through them and 1 with a yellow exclamation point. If I try to uninstall them the unit said the devices are in use. You don't have a remove key in device manager like in 98 or ME. My scanner isn't listed but it works. Anyone with any opinons? The scanner is a HP3200C parallel port.

Hi,

I'm been dealing with this pesky problem that I can't seem to put my finger on. Anytime I install new hardware such as a usb memory stick the new hardware wizard does not pop-up and Windows does not see the device. The work-around I've been using is to insert the stick and reboot...only then will Windows see the drive.

Now I just installed a scanner, all the software and appropriate drivers and I still can't get Windows to see the device...even with the work-around.

I never have these problmes on my home computer as the wizard automatically pops-up. Can anyone give me any insight on how to resolve this?

Thanks,
Chris

A:add hardware wizard

What is the make and model # of your printer? Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager any device that have yellow flags need to have drivers installed. If there is one for your printer, right click it and Uninstall it. Now, unplug the USB cable from the computer end and restart the computer. There should be no new hardware wizard. Now go to the printer manufacturers support/download drivers site, type in the make and model # and download the driver for the printer. During the install it will tell you when to plug in the USB cable to finish the install.

I installed a new mouse on my computer. I used the installation CD and the mouse works fine. However, every time I boot up the computer, Plug & Play seems to think I have a new mouse and pops up the Found New Hardware wizard. While this is not game stopping, it is annoying.

Is there any way to convince my computer that I do not have a new mouse, that I have the proper software installed for this mouse and that it should stop asking me to install it every time I boot up?

A:New hardware wizard

Have you gone through the Wizard at least once or do you cancel it each time? You MUST go thru it at least once, even if you installed the "proper" software. Sometimes the 'proper' software causes problems and is best left off as it can cause odd Windows behavior.

After installing a new joystick (some problems initially but since resolved) I went to the event viewer in Administrative Tools and saw the following message. Plug and Play user-interface dialogs have been suppressed in Factory Mode. It appears as a warning and uses an event ID code of 270. After checking Microsofts Knowledge base (to no avail) I checked the event log back for several months. This same event is the first item listed every time that windows boots. If you try to open the Add Hardware Wizard it opens a window that reads Cannot run two device installations. You can only install one device at a time. Another device installation is underway, when it is finished you can try this wizard again. The joystick installation is the first hardware I have installed since the system came online. No problems noted in device manager. Any one have a solution to closing out a non existant device installation?

I have a Windows XP PRO machine. I have successfully installed a HP Laserjet 1012 printer and a Zebra LP2844 label printer. The problem I have is everytime I restart the machine, the Add New Hardware wizard pops up and tries to add them both again. If I go through the wizard, it says that the System cannot find the file specified. Yet, if I look in my printers area, both are listed and working. I tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling and it still occurs. I went to C:/Windows/System32/Spool and deleted all the drivers in there and download new ones again. Any ideas on how to get the wizard from continually popping up?

Check the Device Manager for any problems because if you are getting that error then Windows is not setting up the hardware properly. Hello All and thank you in advance.

I have a Toshiba LapTop, 1135 S155
I have had this computer for a few years and have reinstalled the OEM OS a number of times, so I am somewhat familiar. I really don't like the OEM OS (Windoze XP Home) because I end up spending about a whole day uninstalling all the fluff.

I went and purchased Windoze XP Pro with SP2 and all the updates etc..

Things were fine for about a week or two then and now everytime I start the LapTop up The "New Hardware Wizard" appears. I have not installed any new hardware with the exception of a Wireless card it installed and works just fine. I have also installed a mouse, installed fine and works fine and I use one of the USB ports for a jump drive which installed and works just fine. I have gone through the wizard and it can not find any new hardware drivers so it wants to go online to search for one. Still can't find whatever it's looking for.

My first questions is - is there a way to find out what hardware it thinks it needs to install?
I have already gone through the device manager - all is fine. No cautions.

My second question is how can I stop this from happening? At the moment I click "cancel" and the wizard closes. The Icon in the system tray says there may be some troubles using the new hardware and the new hardware was not installed.

Just cancelling is just fine for me and I have been doing so for over a week now trouble free. But something is wrong somewhere. ... Read more

Hi~

My question is everytime I start up my computer I get the Found New Hardware Wizard that pops up for my printer. I've had my printer for about a year now, its an HP All-in-one 2355 series, I've never had this problem before, it just started happening a couple weeks ago. I tried to cancel or select option no to install printer but it still pops up every single time I turn my computer on. I've asked HP they've given me microsoft websites to go to delete a certain registry key, but there was an error message when I tried that. They've told me to try to unistall the printer using the printer cd and reinstalling it and update it with the appropriate drivers and updates for the printer, and it still keeps popping up every time I turn on the computer. How do I rid of this annoying problem? By t he way my printer works fine no problems using it.

If all 7 say they're trying to install your HID Keyboard - then there's an issue with the software for the keyboard.
Most likely Windows has reverted to the built in drivers for your keyboard - and the system thinks that it needs better one's.

What is the make and model of your keyboard? If it's a laptop, we'll need the make and model of that.

Namely...having installed new Sony DVD+RW ( and it works) however, onevery boot/reboot..the Hardware Wizard identifies new hardware...not only the new Sony DVD+RW, but also the DVD player that has been in the computer since the beginning...any thoughts on how to correct this would truly be appreciated...I have tried the MS solution, no luck, changed the Sony to Master, no luck...there are still traces of old CD-RW in registry that I have been unable to get rid of, even in safe mode.

Hi there!

If it keeps wanting to load drivers, let it load them...even if the printer is loaded, it shouldn't hurt anything.

Besides, some devices have more than one component to install as far as drivers go.

Hey tech guy! thanks for your time. My problem is: I have an outboard USB soundcard works fine with the generic drives on XP. However When I 1st tried to install it. I messed up on the install of the real drivers for the USB soundcard. These drivers have to be associated directly with the card on 1st try install because there is no auto loader for USB soundcard. I hit ok, at the wrong time, somewhere in the process. And now XP wont let me search for the drivers whenever I try to reinstall them by using plug and play...XP just automatically goes for the generic drives for the soundcard and, never actually prompts me for the drivers, so that I can load them myself. I tried the Ad Hardware and was able to get the drivers on the comp itself. But there is no connection between the card and the drivers...XP automatically thinks the soundcard goes with the generic drivers. Any Help...thanks... hope this is clear for you...- Glynn Yadao

A:From: Found New Hardware Wizard. Don't Know Why?

A "new hardware found" screen will come up each time that the system is booted...and you have hardware items which are recognized by the system but do not have the appropriate drivers installed.

Post the exact decriptions of the items having yellow markings in Device Manager.

System manufacturer and model?

My Operating System is Windows XP. Not sure how to resolve this situation. For the past five days every time I turn my computer on I get the following popup: It reads: Welcome to the found New Hardware Wizard. Can Windows connet to Windows Update to search for software? (choices) Yes - This time onlly. Yes - now and everytime. No - Not this time.

I can click "Cancel" at the bottom of the message and the popup goes away. It returns everytime I turn my computer on. In the tray below there is an indicator (when I put my mouse over it) it reads: Found New Hardware Searching for Drivers.

Your help is most appreciated.

I used the CD-Rom which came with the unit. It set up and loaded fine, but now whenever I have to start up or reboot my computer, I get the pop up window that says: "Found New Hardware Wizard".
It keeps telling me it has found new hardware and will install it for me!
If I click on "cancel' it comes right back at least another 3 times!
Is there a way to disable this program?
Thank you, any advice would be appreciated.

If it is a USB printer, make sure you didn't change the USB port. You might have to save the driver you downloaded to your computer and then go to the device manager, select update driver and point to the saved driver and let it complete the update and then reboot your computer.

Ok so I did a dirty install of windows xp pro, into an existing partition on a dell pc. The reason for the dirty install is there is no motherboard chipset disk that came with the pc, the drivers are stored in a folder called Dell in C:\. I start up the computer notice that many drivers arent installed including ethernet, usb, sound and graphics. These drivers should automatically detect from that Dell folder.

So I go into add hardware wizard and do a include this location in search, but anything inside C:\ is unable to be included, the ok button is greyed out.

If i simply type C:\ into where D:\ is it says it is unable to be located or something similar.

I have a feeling this came about because I installed onto an existing Partition but it is the only choice I have at the moment.

Thankfully most of those drivers could be set up with .exe files included in the folders but this computer is going to be a pain in the *** for plug and play devices otherwise (not my pc). Help??

hello & welcome to TSF,

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to sliptream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

Since the hardware is gone you can just click ok and let the wizard run its course.

Or once you let it go do its thing it will figure out that the new hardware got lost somehow and can't be detected and quit.

The worst it could do is install the windows drivers for the camera to the proper place and then go away.

Hi There, first visit

Today I was helping a friend to stop the Hardware Wizard appearing on start up. I did a google for answers and was told to>>>

progs
administrive tools
services
plug and play
disable

This did not work so I went back and set it to manual but on reaching home and checking my setting, I am on nautomatic.

Also, after booting up his pc, it was saying pc was not activated and I was a bit lost as it gave options to go on interent or telephone. Now he cannot connect to interent.

I then decided to do a system restore but he had no dates in bold so I could not do that.

Any advice please

Hello & welcome to TSF ,

okay now

when you add devices or do major changes to your system that is when this reactivation notice pops up for you have reconfiguared your system to the point that the software & devices need to be confirmed with microsoft

you will need to do this befor your Microsft software will work any more / microsofts rules (dumb one ) but their rules to make sure your system is yours

also some virus's & malware & trojans can do this to a system / could mean possible infection

also the hardware wizard has detected some thing that needs drivers

once you get your activation redone do this

now what i you need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they & post them here

then get back to us

My new comp has started to throw up the "found new hardware" wizard on first startup in the mornings. It referes to the display adapter a Geforce4MX 460. If I cancel the wizard and reboot everything starts as normal, the card is recognised and everything in device manager appears ok. I have reloaded the drivers but the same thing happens again the next day. I have even set the clock to 23.55, closed down and waited till 0.05 the "next" day. It boots up ok !!! Seems like when it is shut down for a few hours it loses the drivers but obviously they'll there all the time. Any ideas? Is it a loose connection or could the card not be seated properly etc.?

A few things I have going on here. Bear with me please. Where to start LOL

First, if at bootup my pc detects the pci multimedia audio device, the hardware installation wizard will stop responding after I find the drivers and hit install and the error I get there relates to two things: CMDNINST.EXE causes kernel32.dll error (not exact) but then I must reboot because using the wizard at startup creates that error and once I close out of cmdninst, windows explorer will not run -- so I've been skipping this detection all together so I can boot up. When I try to install the drivers from the control panel, system devices, I get the error:

Error installing device
Windows can't find the pci Multimedia device driver file

The hardware wizard always stops responding regardless of what hardware it detects, and so that's not related solely to the PCI multimedia device but something to do with CMDNINST executable or a kernel32.dll error, but nothing can be found on this unless it's installing windows ME which I'm not. I use ME but it's obviously installed -- just installing or trying to install hardware.

So the other error happens when trying to install my pci Multimedia device driver, which doesn't make sense since it's there all ready with the question ? which I'm trying to fix, but cannot.
If anyone can make sense of this message and how I word things, help!

Note: The printer's scanner worked fine on my cousin's netbook so I don't think its defective.

I recently bought a new printer which is also supposed to be able fax and scan. The printer works fine, but I am not able to scan. During installation there was an error ("Your new hardware might not work properly"). I opened up Device Manager and there you go, a yellow exclamation mark ! next to Lexmark 2600 under images and devices.
To fix the problem, I tried to update the driver from the installation disc. But it showed me the message "Wizard could not find a better match for you hardware than the one it already has"
I went to the Lexmark website and downloaded and installed the updates, followed the troubleshooter, and even chatted for an hour with a support operator. The instructions he gave me were the same thing I was already doing; try updating from the cd and the downloaded package from the site, install, uninstall, reinstall, try different usb port... but i got the same disappointing result; Wizard cant find a better match.

I have recently installed Windows XP Professional and a strange problem occured, I am not able to run Hardware Update Wizard anymore. Whenever I try to reinstall drivers of some device (or install new drivers), I see only a very short blink and then Windows start to install driver automatically, without allowing me to specify a driver location. Usually, it ends up with installation of some generic, non-working driver.
When I look into System-Harware-Windows Update, I cannot choose any other option than No.3 (Never search for Windows Update).

I have tried to put these to registry (and later removing the whole key, but no change:

Hello,

I'm asking this question because it's irritating that anytime I have a new device that is USB related, it almost never works on my laptop. On my old computer, upon entering a flash drive or a new ipod, the computer would just eventually say "Flash Drive is ready to use" or something similar. On this laptop, it always brings up the Found New Hardware Wizard. When I click "Install the software automatically" it normally searches and finds absolutely nothing. Is there a firewall problem here or something else? I've tried turning off all anti-spyware and firewalls but I still get nothing.

A:Found New Hardware Wizard doesn't do anything

The question is...have you installed any appropriate drivers for said devices...following the instructions for said device? Some require drivers to be installed beforehand, some don't.

If you are talking PnP USB devices, then it's probably a problem with your USB controllers, IMO.

I never see the New Hardware Wizard unless I'm installing a video card, etc. My experiences are typically that I see a notice that such device has been installed and I need to reboot the system to assure proper performance. I don't add a lot of hardware to my system.

Hi,
I'm having problems running Microsofts Sound Hardware Test Wizard.
Every time I've tried running it the progress bar goes to the end and then I get this error:

"An error occured during DirectPlay Voice Setup. The error code is 0x80004005.)

Then this message:

"Windows cannot execute DpvSetup.exe, use Add/Remove Programs control panel to install."

I've tried running the test from different areas of windows:
- Sounds and Autio Devices Properties
- MSN Audio Tuning Wizard
- SideWinder Game Voice
- DirectX Diagnostics

I have the same results no matter where I run the wizard.

Here are my computer specs:
- Windows Xp(everything is updated)
- AMD Tbird 1200
- Abit KT7E motherboard
- 512 megs of SDRAM(PC133)
- ATI Raedon 9500 Pro 128 meg video card

- Herculies Gamesurround Fortissimo 7.1 soundcard with updated Drivers
- Still have around 5 gigs of my 20 gig Hard Drive free

I use to have a SoundBlaster Live Value before and I never used to get this problem.

It's troubling because I've just purchased a Microsoft Game Voice and it requires you to run this wizard before you can use it.

I've tried all sorts of fixes from the Microsoft site like:

Every time I start my computer I get the "found new hardware wizard" even though I haven't installed any new hardware. When I clicked on it to see what hardware it was talking about it told me it was Navex15 and was going to search for software for it. I canceled this, because I don't know what that is. Please help.

Hi all,

I have dual booted configuration with Fedora 12 and Windows XP running. I have reinstalled Fedora 12 yesterday as something (I don't know) gone wrong and I was not able to login into either Fedora or Windows. While installing Fedora 12 has taken a full free partition (with 100 GB) as logical volume for root, which I haven't noticed at that time.

After installation, I had logged into Windows network, where a Found new Hardware wizard for generic volume keeps on popping up. It's really annoying to have it popped up again and again. Kindly let me know whether this popup can be avoided.

Regards,
Bala

A:Annoying Found new hardware wizard pop up

My experience is that Windows requires a reboot...after any partitions/drives have been added. After that, there should be no notification of new hardware.

The creation of a new partition is seen by XP as a new piece of hardware.

Hey there, firstly i'd like to say i really respect what you guys do helping all the clueless peeps like me, i've had various problems before and have solved them all through searching help threads here.

Recently my system had been playing up, random restarts, long boots, incredibly slugish and i was recommended to do a reformat of windows xp. Which i went ahead and did no problem. Now with the fresh system i am unable to make any connection to the internet.

When i go into the network setup wizard it says "The wizard cannot find your network hardware".

I use a router with a ethernet cable.
The cable is fine.
I've read around and hear i may need to install network drivers. Which i dont have a disk for.
I have no idea where to locate these drivers or what i need to download specificly
My motherboard is a "ECS 945G-M3 V3.0 Socket 775 Core 2 Duo Ready FSB1066 DDR2 Onboard Audio mATX"

Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I really have little knowledge of what i should be doing.

Thanks - A tired Josh.

A:Wizard cannot find your network hardware

Go to "system then hardware the device manager" if it does not shop there then go tot add & remove hardware, let the system try to find it. If the system does not find it try to go back and select it from the list, take your time it is not as hard as it may seem. Another point!!! You may need a driver, many drivers are available on the net from the maker, you will need the make/model number.
Added note if you find the net card in the device manager but with a yellow asterisk, right click a panel will open click on driver and try the update feature the driver may be on your windows disk!

I am trying to install updated drivers using Hardware Update Wizard but each time I try to browse to the correct folder, the OK button is greyed out and I can't select the folder.
The five files in the extracted folder are called:
amd64 - file folder (contains a few .dll files and a 1kb notice file)
1386 - file folder (contains a few .dll files and a 1kb notice file)
android_winusb - setup information
androidwinusb86 -security catalog
androidwinusba64 - security catalog

There is no exe file included. What can I do to get it to work. They apparently do load as I have been told by many others!
Thanks!

A:Hardware Update Wizard - no OK button

Highlight the i386 folder in the Browse window, if the OK button is still greyed out you have the wrong driver.

Everytime I start my Sony Vaio laptop I get a Found New Hardware Wizard pop up. It says "This wizard helps you install software for: Conexant-Ambit Softk56 Data,Fax Modem"

I usually just click "cancel" and go about my business. Why does this pop up everytime and do I need to do something with it? It doesn't affect anything, it's just annoying.

Thanks!

Any help with this is appreciated. I have a new Compaq Presario s6500nx. My default printer is an HP 5150 which is installed and works fine.

When I boot up, the "detect new hardware" wizard installs the software and drivers for the HP 5600 (which I don't have). It then makes this the default printer which obviously doesn't help me because it doesn't exist on my system.

If I delete the printer and its software, the new hardware wizard just re-installs it for me. I don't have a choice when the computer boots up; it just installs automatically.

How do I make it stop???

Thank you very much.

Hi,
I have two questions primarily concerning the Win XP ‘Add New Hardware’ Wizard.

I have an old Sound Blaster soundcard that works OK with my PC. When installing this card, Win XP ‘New Hardware Wizard’ automatically loads the following driver:

Creative AudioPCI (ES1371,ES1373) (WDM)

I was curious to know what other Sound Blaster drivers ship with Win XP so I lied to Windows and told it I’d installed new hardware and then chose to select my device from a list. I selected Creative Technology Ltd and found the following choices:

Game Port for Creative
Sound Blaster 16 or Awe32 or compatible (WDM)

That’s all there was. Notice that the driver my OS has been loading is not among these.

My questions:
1. Where on my system are the ‘built-in’ soundcard drivers to be found, and can I browse them?
2. If the XP ‘New Hardware’ wizard finds and installs a particular driver, why don't I find the same driver on offer when I perform a manual ‘New Hardware’ install?

Cheers

A:Questions Re: Soundcard and ADD NEW HARDWARE wizard

If anyone’s interested I’ve been able to shed some light on this matter.
First of all I found that Microsoft have published a list of the sound and game port drivers that ship with Windows XP:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/295318

(This list does include my soundcard driver, but these drivers never show up as a choice in the ADD HARDWARE list).

I looked in my system's inf folder (C:\Windows\inf) and found the file that has setup information about my audio drivers. In my case the file is - wdma_ens.inf

I began reading through this file, and close to the top of the page is the line “Mechanism for excluding drivers from the ADD NEW HARDWARE list”. So there we have it. It seems clear that certain Plug and Play drivers are available to the OS but, for reasons unknown to me, are intentionally excluded from the ADD NEW HARDWARE wizard list, – by design and not by accident.

Hi

My old Laserjet 6L finally gave up the ghost and I was fortunate to be able to get my hands on a Samsung ML-4500 at a very reasonable price.

I installed the software and the printer works fine. Problem is that everytime I start my computer, or if I switch on the printer, I get the new hardare wizard telling me that it has found some new hardware (the Samsung ML-4500) and asking if I'd like to install the device. I put the install CD in the drive, the wizard searches for a while and then tells me it can't install the software due to some problem with the inf file.

Doesn't really matter as the printer still works fine!

I know that I could just click on Cancel when the Wizard rears it's ugly head, but I just hate unhelpful and unnecessary dialogues - theyr'e a complete PITA.

If anyone knows how to stop this wizard from telling me my hardware is not installed (when it obviously is) I'd really appreciate it.

Hi,
I'm using a windows XP with Service Pack 2. Earlier in the day, I had un-installed the Bitdefender antivirus to make way for a new anti-virus using the Total Uninstall softare. I was also installing softwares like anti-malware software from Malwarebytes.

After restarting to complete the uninstall, the "Found New Hardware wizard" popped up and will pop up again whenever the wizard is closed. The computer now is extremely laggy and I can no longer perform a system restore.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello:

I've got a problem with my Win XP system. A few days ago after a program conflict and system crash I had to reinstall my DSL utility program/drivers/modem etc...

The installation went well except that something seems to be running now in the background. I can log onto the Web, communicate and run all programs, but there is a regular tone annunciating (sounds like when a USB device connects) a bonging sound which occurs regularly.

Because I thought that there was some sort of conflict I clicked on "Add Hardware Wizard" and got the following message.

"Cannot run two device installations.
You can install only one device at a time, another device installation is underway, when it is finished you can try the Wizard again."

This seems to be the problem....the system apparently is hung up trying to install a device and never can complete that task.

Is there some simple way to stop this process? and in turn turn off the constant tone.

Thank you

Boot to safe mode and see if issue is still present. If the other device is not USB, then it should eventually install.

Also look in device manager and see if there are any bangs (? or !)

Hi all,

Fantastic work you people do!
Anyway, my problem is tiny compared to some.

I bought and installed a HP 4255 all in one fax/printer/scanner etc some months back, it works fine.

But a really annoying thing happens.
Every time I start up I get a little pop-up box beside my system clock telling me "Found new hardware: Printer" Then I get the "Welcome to the found new hardware wizard" box.
I have followed the instructions, inserted the installation CD etc. Then I get another small pop-up box beside my system clock telling me "A problem occured during hardware installation and your device may not work properly etc"

I just ignore it now, the device itself works great, no probs but the same pop-ups every time I start up has become very annoying!!

I have un-installed/re-installed it totally several times and still the same....
Is there a way to just switch off these pop-ups? Its driving me a bit nuts!!

I also have another small problem.
I put a USB 2.0 card into the back of my 'puter a while ago as it only had USB 1.1. This was mainly for my scanner (A stand alone, seperate from the HP all in one) to make it run a bit faster, but if I plug in my scanner it tells me "Found new hardware: USB Device" then "Found new hardware: Your new hardware is installed and is ready to use" So far so good, but then I get "USB device not recognised: One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned a... A:Found New Hardware Wizard on start up, Always!!

Hi,

Don't think I have your answer, but do know that some HP PSC units require that you set it up AFTER you have the computer on, or otherwise, leave it off until you boot up and get your unit going. Then, turn it on, load your drivers and see if that helps.

What you need to do, go in to the device manager and delete or uninstall the unit, go into the control panel Printer area and make sure it is gone, if not delete it there also. The shut down, enter BIOS setup menu and check to make sure your PnP is set to DISABLED if you are using WinXP.

Then, boot up with your printer hooked up, but shut off. When the computer is up and running, then turn on the printer. When it is recognized (if not, then use the hardware wizard in the Control Panel), then load the drivers and see if that helps.

Good Luck!

I FINALLY got my freakin iPod piece of crap to work with my Vaio... or so I thought. The iPod Updater wont "mount" the iPod (whatever the hell that means) so I go into device manager and uninstall the driver. Now ALL I want to do is reinstall the driver, but now when I plug the iPod into my computer, it doesn't go 'doot doot' and no Found New Hardware Wizard pops up!!! Helllllllllllllllp!!!!!!!

A:Found New Hardware Wizard not coming up!!!

The Found New Hardware Wizard usually does NOT pop up if the driver is still in there. But you SHOULD be getting the 'doot doot' sound. I think it's more like 'doo deet' myself. Or 'dee doot' when unplugged

This one is tuff, chances are good even though you uninstalled, the files are still there so XP doesn't have to use the AddNew again, it just does it automatically.
I suppose you have restarted the PC once? And also try plugging in the USB to a different hub.
Also you could reinstall the latest iTunes, since it includes iPod software in it, and see if that helps.

Error installing devide

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone else has experienced this issue? I have had my mini-dv for a long time now (5+yrs). I have used it many times before on my pc via Firewire cable. I've simply opened up Windows Movie Maker and started capturing and editing - worked perfectly.

HOWEVER, today i wanted to capture my recent holiday footage. I connected my firewire to pc and the windows "Found New Hardware" wizard appeared. It wants me to install a driver? I didn't think drivers are required for a firewire connection are they? Anyway, when loading Windows Movie Maker - it does not pick up the device. I have tried Nero and Producer - but same - neither pick up the mini-dv.

Maybe i'm missing something obvious (as it's been a while - almost 2 years since i've last captured video on my pc). I have a windows XP pc sp3. The Device Manager has a yellow exclamation on "Other Devices" - i suppose referencing to the mini-dv...

I have attached a screen dump of the wizard outcome:

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Brent

Dell
Windows Xp

So 2 days ago, i was having a problem with my computer, i would log in, and once my desktop came up, it would show for about 10 seconds, and then my icons and taskbar would dissapear. So i called dell, and they told me that most likely some spyware had leaked through and the best solution would be to reboot xp and start from scratch. So i go to do that and when the installation finished, i suddenly have no internet connection. I use a linksys router, and my laptop is connected to the router and gets a connection just fine.

So im guessing my problem is that when i go on my pc and go to the network connections screen, its empty. Wehn i try to set one up, i get the "Wizzard cannot find your network hardware" which is strange because before i re-installed, i had a working internet connection. If you have any tips, that doesnt require me talking to the useless folks at "dell-on-call" please help.

Be slow with me lol, im a beginner, i kno some basics, but if u tell me to do some crazy stuff, i will probably get lost =). So step by step please if u can help.

thanks

A couple of days ago one of my computers running Win XP reported having new hardware. I've never seen this problem before. It insisted that there was new hardware - which it did not. I noticed a process iPodservice running, and this seems to be part of the problem. My machine definitely "thinks" it needs to connect to an iPod.

Is this a not quite benign problem, due possibly to bugs in iTunes, or is it more sinister, and my machine has been hijacked by some other malware?

I did have iTunes on the machine, but I removed it - though maybe the iTunes remover doesn't work properly.

Has anyone else seen anything similar? Anyone any idea of the cause, and a suitable fix?

I have a problem with my Sony desktop running Windows XP. It seems that it recognizes my currently installed and working HP990 printer every 5-10 minutes and the Install New Hardware Wizard pops up.

I can''t respond to anything since it just tells me that installation failed. HP suggested that it is related to the USB plug and detect which detects the printer periodically, but I don't know how to turn it off.

Any suggestions?

If you turn off the USB port if that is even possible you won't be able to prinyt. Try a different USB port or remove the printer and its drivers and try reinstalling it.
