Windows XP Home Edition won't start: System Configuration Error Code Purple?

Q: Windows XP Home Edition won't start: System Configuration Error Code Purple?

I just recently ran a System Recovery on my Windows XP Home Edition SP3 computer and after the recovery is done I restarted the system and then this message shows up and I'm stuck here.

I don't have any disc that came with the computer because that was a very long time ago already. I tried to download the "Windows XP Home Edition Set Up Disk for Floppy Boot Installation" from Microsoft but I can't run the ff:

Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Home Edition SP1
Windows XP Home Edition SP2

I can't create the Set Up Disk For Home Edition, SP1, and SP2 because this computer I'm using right now is a 64 bit and no floppy disk drive. That's why I downloaded this instead:
Windows XP Service Pack 3 - ISO-9660 CD Image File
from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2fcde6ce-b5fb-4488-8c50-fe22559d164e&displaylang=en

I burned it to a DVD ROM but I don't know what to do next. After burning I reinserted the disc to this computer and the autorun activated. Then I inserted the disc to my Windows XP which has "System Configuration Error" and tried to reboot it but theres no autoplay or anything the computer still goes through the "System Configuration Error" message and I don't know how to access the set up disc. What should I do? Help please..

HP Pavilion a522n. I just did a full recovery using a DVD I created when I bought the computer. The following message appears:Your system has detected a configuration error. Please report this error to Customer Care using the phone number found in the Warranty and Support Guide that came with your PC. Unless corrected, this error will prevent your PC from operating properly. Turn off your PC by pressing and holding the Power button. After a few seconds your PC will automatically turn off. (Code Purple)" I first did the HP PC System Recovery and got the above message, so then tried the DVD I created. Both get the same results.what do I do now?

Hi,
I have been looking all over the net to find out what this problem is, but alas, nobody has been able to identify it. Basically, my computer had a blue screen that flashes with the message HP Invent, that goes by rather quickly, followed by a black screen with safe mode options et al. When attempting a recovery I got the code purple error. I have read several people mention a motherboard issue that is not 'tatooed' correctly. But this motherboard is the original that came with my PC in 2003! There have been no upgrades in at least four years. The only new addition has been a Sony monitor recently. Please can someone tell me what this Code Purple error is, and how to resolve it. Time and assistance will be gratefully received.

Regards,

If its the motherboard going bad all you can do is replace it if you so choose.Motherboards can be expensive to replace and they dont last forever.

I would like to say hello to everybody here. I have a problem. My problem is the nasty dredful Code Purple Configuration Error for HP. I have been working on a HP Pavilian mini tower, and I ended up having to destructive restore it. I then restart the tower, and I get this Config Error code Purple. I don't mess with HP very much (I compac/HP) I have also did my research on the problem, and I know its got a tatoo on the mother board(haven't added any hardware, and the reason for the restore everytime I tried to logon, it would say saving settings and restart) Of course this computer hasn't came with a restore disk, its on a partition of its own. I know their was a lawsuit over HP sending restore disk, and I also know I need to put the hardrive in a different tower and delete a bin file. Here's the problem. I have been fighting with hp over this restore disk and wanting me to pay for tech support. I feel I shouldn't pay for tech support because this problem was caused by them. My question is there away to fix this easier than the other ways shown on this forum. I never have hook up a hp hard drive to a different tower(which I don't think will post any problems, but then when deleting bin files or even locating these file. I am not too comfortable with doing. Will someone either let me know a easy way to fix this or instruct me in which is the best way and the step to fix it. Sorry for acting like a dumby, but i am not trying to mess up this HP comp... Read more

I'm guessing nobody wants to touch this with a 10ft. pole. I still have the same problem with this HP, and I really don't know what will work to fix this, and if there is a way to do it easier. I have read alot about this subject, but really can't find the correct way to get this up and running. If someone could help that would be great.

Hi!
I'm working on a HP computer running XP Pro. When the computer would try to boot up to Windows an error message would appear stating that there was a configuration error and to contact the manufacturer. Then in paranthesis (Code Purple).

I did a search for Code Purple on the internet and got a number of hits, but only one seemed to have any suggestions for a solution.

This is what I found out and this is what I did (Some of these I copied and pasted from this blog - but just changed them to indicate specifically what I did I don't want to take credit for their great suggestions - the blog is at: http://www.billoblog.com/billoblog/?p=152#comments )

Code Purple indicates that there was a booby trap placed in HP and Compaq computers in which a “tattoo” or numerical signature of the motherboard and hardware configuration is created at the factory and encoded into the restore disks on a particular computer. When you re-install your system, it checks to make sure the system h I removed the hard drive from my Pavilion and put it in the other system. I then looked for the file that was doing the anti-piracy check. I found it at:

No answer Last week, the computer no longer got past the microsoft logo (note no discs of any kind came with the computer, just it the mouse and the keyboardy from Best Buy) and no there isn't extra warranty on it. Ok i did system recovery, didn't work, system restor to last point it was working didn't work. Now it has obviosuly recognized i did a recovery so it goes to the logo screen and then the white box "Configuration Number Error)" comes up. Tells me to call HP to obtain it and the story goes on. Is there any backdoor tricks to obtain the config number, or of any fixes you know.I was wondering if it was a complete hard drive fail. Any help is grealty appreciated! Thanks,Rosemary

When exactly do you get the message? Is it before Windows starts to boot? How does the message appear? Is it white lettering on a black background?

Does the machine boot? If so, how (What do you have to do after you see the message to get it to boot)?

A:XP Configuration Error : "Code Purple"

Code Purple is something you get on HP/Compaq machines when they need a "Tattoo" - likely a mobo failure. Contact your suppliers techie support so they can send an engineer out to fix it - if in the UK and the PC was from PC World, Dixons, Currys or Currys.Digital its (0870) 901 3000

HP sent me a new pre imaged hard drive to install in my computer. This was to warranty a bad hard drive. It was supposed to be simple, just turn it on and windows 7 would install itself. When I turned it on I got system configuration error code purple. Can I fix this myself. If so, How? If there is a fix outside of calling HP, do you think it would void the warranty?

I have a suite of Windows 7 workstations on which I now cannot do a system image backup, although I used to be able to when I first installed them. The backup target is the D: drive of one of a pair of 2008 R2 Foundation servers (either one). Once I've selected the target server and drive from the "Select a Network Location" dialogue, and entered appropriate credentials there, back on the "Where do you want to save the backup?" dialogue, when I click the "Next" button, I just get a message box "An error has occurred: The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057). Close Windows Backup and try again". Needless to say, that doesn't help.

I've come across many threads on this and other forums with similar problems, but none of the suggestions I found (like setting the locale to use '.' as the decimal place, increasing the virtual memory to a preposterous size, or running CHKDSK) have helped.

I know malware is not the problem since these workstations and the servers are on a closed network with no external connections at all, and all removable media are disabled.

Configuration:
Workstations:
HW: Dell Precision T3500
HDD: RAID 1 mirrored array of Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA II
NWIF: Intel PRO/1000 PT link aggregated dual 1 Gbaud NIC
OS: Win 7 64 bit Pro SP1

A:Windows System Image Backup Fails to Start (error code 0x80070057)

OK, folks, riddle me this if you can:

I fixed this problem as a by-product of fixing another one, apparently unrelated, which was that I couldn't access the workstation's DVD drive - I just kept getting the dreaded "Access is denied" mantra. In my searching, I came across a suggestion to uninstall the drive and reinstall it. Seems kinda extreme, but it would certainly initialise its security settings.

Well I did it, and sure enough I now have full access to the drive, but then when I opened the Backup toolbox to create a new system repair disk, I found the backup to my system servers is now working, along with correctly identifying the DVD drive and an external USB HDD I have connected as usable backup devices (which it didn't before).

It makes about as much sense to me as getting your TV to work by turning the kitchen tap on, but there you go - that's Windows for you.

Started Up In Safe Mode....Now What?
Restarted my System and Windows XP Home Service Pack 3 would not start. The Splash Screen appears and then I see the apology message ...Sorry for the inconvenience...yadda yadda ... and options to try various alternatives. I tried restoring to various dates but gave up after 3 tries. The System Restore was successful each time but the attempt at a restart ended the exact same way, with the apology message. So I restarted in Safe Mode but now what do I do? I looked around in Device Manager and in Event Viewer but see nothing out of the ordinary. I have no audio, no internet, and no printer functionality in Safe Mode which I guess is normal but I also do not have my AVP (avast!free 7.0) showing in the Tray. Shouldn't I be able to run a Virus System Scan while running in Safe Mode?
What should I be looking for while I am in Safe Mode to identify what is preventing Windows XP from starting up? Thank you.
(Obviously I am posting this from another computer!)
My System had been operating without a problem prior to this restart issue with no beeps or blue screens or freeze ups. My Windows XP is up to date, so is my MSIE, and so is my AVP. I have not installed any new programs and I do not play internet games. Curiously, I have not been able to successfully uninstall several programs while in Safe Mode. Is this normal?

Hello!

A virus corrupted my system yesterday and I decided to do a full recovery from the partition. This is an HP, and of course it was afflicted with the infamous "Code Purple" error upon recovery. I have no real way to fix this on my own, so I'm thinking about just installing a new OS. I wanted to upgrade to windows 7 anyway.

So, will installing Windows 7 onto this system (which was previously running Vista, but it's been reformatted so that won't matter) fix the code purple error? I've seen some places recommending this way to fix it. Just wondering if anyone knows for sure if the new OS will give me any issues because of this error.

Thanks!

A:Will Installing Windows 7 Fix "Code Purple" Error?

I don't think it give an error if you run a clean install of any OS (Operating System). All you have to backup your data's in other drive (in Same Hard Disk) or different external Hard Disk.

Than boot with your Windows 7
1. It will ask you to boot from CD or DVD press any key... (press any key)
2. It will load windows 7 in your RAM memory.
3. Accept the licensing aggreement.
4. Select the partition in which you want to install Win 7.
5. Click on Format.
6. Click on Yes to confirm formatting (It will give a warning that it will delete all the data's and contents in the partition.)
7. Automatically it will format and copy the system files into your Hard Disk.
8. Enter the key, click next
9. Enter the system name, click next
10. Enter username and password, click next
11. Select express or custom installtion, click next
12. Automatically system will restart.
13. Login with the username and password provided.

That's it. Am sure you won't get any "Code Purple" error.

When I start my computer, it says that probably because a change in the hardware or software Windows can’t start. It shows the options to start in Safe Mode, Safe Mode in LAN, Last Known Good Configuration and Normal.
It won’t start in any mode. After the Windows logo in black screen, it displays a blue screen that goes so fast I can’t read it, and then starts the same all over again. I have to shut it down.
I can use Compaq’s System Recovery, but it will erase all my files. (I don’t have the CD´s, but the program is installed in the computer)
In order to save my files I tried the following:
I installed my hard drive as slave in a different computer (to use it as a folder). I remembered to change the jumpers in both computers. The other computer wouldn’t start with both drives installed, it goes as far as the Windows XP logo over the black screen, but before the blue Welcome screen it goes black. Completely black. Sadly black.
I really need to keep all my files (I know I should’ve backed up, but I didn’t)
HELP !! What can I do?

A:Windows XP Home Edition wonÂ’t start in any mode

When putting the suspect drive into another machine you need to check a few things. Given that the error is happening on the other machine, I suspect that it is trying to boot off the damaged drive - have you set the jumpers to Pri/Sla or Cable select? I suspect that you have got the drives the on Cable Select and it's picking up the damaged one first. If this IS the case make sure the working drive is either jumpered as primary or is plugged into the END connector of the IDE cable (normally black connector).

If this is too obvious and all checks ok, then you need to check your BIOS - does the BIOS pick up both drives in (detection set to 'Auto'). If so, is your boot sequence correct - (IDE-0, CDROM, Floppy)? You may well have IDE-1 (which would be your secondary drive) as the primary boot drive in which case you will simply be replicating the errors you describe.

Check this first and let me know.

Best regards,

Currently, when I attempt to start my laptop computer [VAIO TR1A] with Windows XP2000 several lines of machine text appear and then nothing more. The program software wont load.

I am in Amman, Jordan. Foolishly I have not backed some rather important data. I have sought out a tech here who offered that perhaps if we used an 2000XP disc to re-install W-XP2000 Home editon, we could get the cpu to start up enough to rescue the data. I have borrowed one from a colleague.

I have sent home for the "Recovery Disc" It should be here in a few days

1. Based on what I have described , can you offer an idea as to why the Windows wont load? PARTICULARLY IN LIGHT OF THE FACT THAT IT INITIALIZES AND THEN "HANGS UP?"

2. Is there anything to the "Techs" opinion on loading W2000xp Home, to see if the computer will load it? Will a start up disc overwrite or install itself as a replacement or another editon? I am lost here as i am sure you can tell!.

3. I Have been told that you have totally delete all the data on the Hard Drive to install the recovery disc! True or False??? If thats so, wont I lose all my data? Are there choices or options here??

4. Is it more likley that the "Hard Drive" has failed or is corrupted?

I would sincerely appreciate hearing your suggestions or recommendations .

Thanks in advance: Bill Sieber/ [email protected]

You can do a System Restore to the time before the Updates started. Since you Win 7 is so new, there might not be a System Restore point. Follow this tutorial and see if it helps. System Restore

Morning.
This is the first time I am trying to use the Calendar since I bought this laptop 6 months ago.
I never logged on to the MS store.
The Calendar app came pre-loaded on my pc when I purchased it from Best Buy.

Windows 10 home premium.
Version 1607 (after the latest updates from MS.)
I log on with a local account.

I "left click" on "time of day" in the lower right corner of my screen and I get a pop up calendar.
(So, I'm thinking, "this is good.")
But when I click on the "+" symbol to add an event, the Calendar app tries to start, but then simply disappears.

The same thing happens if I click on the "Start" button and then scroll to "Calendar" and click on it.
It tries to start (A blue Calendar screen appears for a moment) but then disappears.

Hmmmm.

I did an Internet search and a bunch of folks describe what sounds like a similar issue.
The good folks seem to recommend different fixes.
And some folks say they have not been able to fix the issue.

Couple of questions, if I might ..............
Do I need to be signed into Windows 10 with a MS account in order to run Calendar ?
(I'll bet the answer is no. But I "have" read a couple of "How to use the Calendar app" documents where it says you DO need to use an MS account.)

Has anyone experienced the above issue ?
And if so, has anyone managed to fix it ?
Or does anyone have some advice ?

Hello Everyone:

I just purchased a New Western Digital 750 GB Hard Drive for my Toshiba Laptop Computer. It is running Windows 7 Home Edition 64 Bit.
I purchased the Recovery DVDS directly from the manufacturer.

I installed windows, and now, Windows Update will not start.
I already tried the "Microsoft Fix It", and it didn't work. I have already verified that the service is started, and any other services required to run it are set to start automatically.

It seems that no matter what I do, Windows Update will not Run.

Can anyone help me to resolve this problem?

I would appreciate it very much.

A:Toshiba Laptop with Windows 7 Home Edition - Updates won't Start

Starbuck,
Welcome to SevenForums.

You might want to consider not putting everything in a bold typeface.

I'm confused.

Your laptop came with a hard drive installed.

The hard drive had an os on it.

Do you still have the original hard drive with the Win 7 Operating System? Yes/ No

Hi Everyone,

I'm not the best on computers so i appologise in advance. I have had an Advent 7098, Windows XP Home Edition for over a year now. Up til now it has been working perfectly, but for some reason when i go to turn it on it goes onto a screen asking me whether i would like to log on using:
-safe mode
-Safe mdoe with networking
-Safe mode with command prompt

-Last known config

-Start Windows Normally.

I have tried all of these, whenever i click on a safe mode option it writes a load of letters and finishes at agpcpq.sys. At this point the computer just restarts and does this continuasly.

When i select last known config or start windows normally is takes me onto the windows loading screen and then flashes with a blue screen for a milisecond and restarts, it then does this continuasly.

Please can someone help me out with this, im getting really frustrated with it. Is it possible to do a system restore when it's starting up?

Please get back to me as soon as you can, Thanks.

A:ADVENT 7098 WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION WONT START UP!

Insert the Windows XP CD into the CD drive, and then restart the computer. Click to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD drive if you are prompted. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console. If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.Type: chkdsk /rIt's important to have a space before the "/".To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.

I have a Dell inspirion 6000 laptop that crashed. When I tried to reboot I got the windows could not start due to corrupt system 32 error. I tried several fixes in this forum but the problem is if I try to repair bypassing the repair console people say that after license agreement it should give an r prompt at the bottom. It doesn't. Also when I use the instructions to do a system restore it says it doesn't recognize the command on the line after the cd snapshot. I don't know how to copy files because it never says in the forum how to do that or where to find them( it might but I just can't find them.) There is just one file I need to save. I did a chdsk/r and it said it didn't find anything. ( i'm going from memory) It won't let me do the one with /p. When I try to boot after the chkdsk still the same error. I see all these instrustions about going into safe mode and running programs. How can I if I can't even get into windows? And how can I save the file I need If I can't get into windows? I'm not so sure I could even do a complete reinstall?. I have the original Windows xp home edition that came with laptop.

Thank you in advance for suggestions.

p.s. I tried to do the fix on microsoft and several other links that were provided from people in the forum. They all require the system restore which I can't do or the repair after the licence agreement which I can't do.

I have at least 6 icons in my system tray at any one time including Norton anti - virus, spybot , windows defender etc.

Yesterday on booting my computer I was surprised to see that many of these icons have now become past items instead of current items. This does not make sense as I have not altered anything at all on my computer.

The norton anti - virus icon has become a past item and now I am getting irritating displays that my virus protection is switched off. I have loaded Norton anti - virus - gone to options and switched on on line virus protection.

This does not work and the option becomes unchecked.

I would like to know how this happened and change past system items to current system tray items i.e return things to what they were previously.

Any suggestions please.

My landlord's relatively new Dell Pentium 4 XP Home Edition PC does not play the system windows default sounds (boot, close, program error, etc.). He lost the sounds once before, and they mysteriously reappeared. Now they have been lost again! The sound card works because other sounds and audio players work fine. We have gone into the sound settings and set the default Windows XP sounds, and they test okay in that panel, but they don't play when we shut down and reboot. Silence!

Any clues as to what to do to restore the system sounds?

Can someone share the commands to get rid of a code purple? I have a hp pavilion a824 using XP Home..

A:code purple Windows XP

I believe I`m right in thinking that a code purple occurs when either the mobo is faulty or the original hardware has had some other hardware added to it that doesn`t match and mainly occurs on HP and Compaq computers.

The OEM mobo has what they call a `tattoo` embedded on it so that on a re-install, you can only use the original mobo and hardware that was attached at the time of purchase and any major move away from that configuration, will flag up an error.

I`ve read that you can bypass the `code purple` by changing a particular file. The file is called run.py and can be found here ... c:\hp\bin\configcheck\run.py and you change it to run.p and reboot. (You may have to enable showing of hidden & system files)

Another way would be to remove any hardware added since it`s birth and revert back to the original configuration, then try running a repair or re-install using the recovery disk/s that came with it.

I haven`t had personal experience with this problem so I`m happy to be put right if anyone has any other suggestions.

Jenny

Hi All.

I have just performed a recovery on a Compaq Presario S5500UK.

Recovery went well, and then it asked me to reboot.

However, when it starts windows, I get the following message and there is nothing I can do other than reboot and keep getitng it.

The message is:

Your system has detected a configuration error. Please report this error to Customer Care using the phone number found in the Warranty and Support Guide that came with your PC. Unless corrected, this error will prevent your PC from operating properly. Turn off your PC by pressing and holding the Power button. After a few seconds your PC will automatically turn off. (Code Purple)

How can I get around this so the PC is usable?

Many thanks,

Craig

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You cannot upgrade from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version.

If you want the 64-bit version it has to be a clean install.

Hello all, recently i decided to try out a linux distro called ubuntu which i have used for programming for quite some time now.

I have gotten tired of ubuntu and decided to switch back to xp.
So i go to load my xp disc and everything is going smooth. It asks if i would like to repair or start a fresh installation. I hit enter to make a new installation instead of repairing, it keeps going and then stops and says it cannot recognize the cd i have in the drive. Says to please insert a windows cd.

Well theres obvioulsy one in seeing as though i was able to have the options to repair or make a new installation but for some reason that just isnt working.

I tried my other xp disc and it did the same thing.

Tried on another computer that is currently running vista and it id the same thing with both discs also.

Also tried repairing an get the same error.

Any idea what is going on?
One disc is old and the other is fairly new. Both are SP2.

I am running Ubuntu 7.04 fiesty fawn.

All help is highly appreciated.

Thanks, grova

Jeez I hope someone can help before I solve this problem with a chainsaw!!
I've been having a lot of problems with my computer all of a sudden and now I'm getting these error messages!
1- apdgui.exe-Unable to Locate Component This application has failed to start because apdanalyzer.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem

I would love to reinstall it if i knew what the heck it was and how to reinstall it!

2- Associated Application Not Found- The Wiseupdate client could not locate an associated application to update. Please make sure that this software is installed properly.

3-Internet Connection Wizard- 'C:\Documents and settins\owner\tartup' is not a file that can be processed by the internet connection wizard.

The windows program I have was already installed when I bought the computer (an Hp Pavilion MX70) if that makes a difference. All 3 of these messages pop up as soon as I turn on the computer! Please help! I'm at my wits end! I have tried to disable the internet connection wizard and that didnt work, unless I didn't do it correctly.

When I turn on my computer, I get an error message: "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\system32\lyeprr.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette." The title of the image varies, but the last part of it is always ".exe - Bad Image"

I get this message twice before Windows actually starts (while the screen is still black), and again a few times before my desktop shows up. Before the start menu comes up, I get the message again. I have to click "OK" at least 10 times before I can start any programs. Also, whenever I click on a program to start it or a file to open it, the message comes up, and I have to click "OK" before the file/program opens. The message also randomly comes up every so often. As far as I can tell, it doesn't affect anything that I do on my computer; it's just annoying. But I have no idea if it's harming my computer or not.

I've seen other posts about "Bad Image," but I didn't want to follow the advice that was given for those because I thought maybe my computer's virus could be a bit different. I want to know if and when i should post a HiJackThis log. Also, I have never used HiJackThis, so I would appreciate a quick how-to for it, if I need it.

Where do I start? Do I need any more information?
Thanks in advance!

Hi

I am curious as to why I get the following problems when using the chkdsk function in my OS (Windows XP Home).

If I use the Run>chkdsk c: the check shows no errors.

If I use the cmd prompt to run chkdsk c: I get the following:
Correcting errors in the Bitmap
Windows found problems with the file system
Run CHKDSK with the /F (Fix) option to correct these

I have run chkdsk c:/f from the cmd prompt and had the check/fix done on reboot which shows no errors on the disc. I have also run a chkdsk of c: using the My Computer>Propereties>Error Checking with both boxes checked to fix file errors and recover bad sectors again showing no errors on reboot.

Does anyone know what might cause the persistent error messages when I run the chkdsk c: from the cmd prompt?

I have not found any problems with my PC and have been able to access all files and programmes without problems.

A:Windows XP Home Edition Chkdsk Error

I've just tried doing what you did and get more or less the same result as you, i.e. different result when run from CMD. In my case it said some files needed fixing, but at reboot it gave me the all clear. I suspect this is some curious quirk of MS, so unless anyone can come up with a better answer, I'd say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

You can't legally download XP.
HP will sell you an install disc at a reasonable price.
What kind of errors are on the old disk? It may be repairable.
It's possible to copy the contents of the old disc to the new one.

After replacing a hard drive on an Apple iMac, I am trying to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition in VM Ware Fusion. The VM Ware Fusion program reinstalled fine. When I tried to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition, I received the following message, "File\i386\halacpi.dll could not be loaded. The error code is 7" How do I get past this error and reinstall Windows XP Home Edition?

A:Windows XP Home Ed - error code 7

Greetings Mattdep, to TSF.

For starters, an Apple? iMac having Windows? XP installed??
Its a wonder that you got it on there in the first place.
Anyway, back to your problem...
Turn the machine off; open the case; remove the RAM stick/s and clean the Gold pins with an eraser; then wipe them with a lint-free cloth; reinstall the RAM, and start the PC again.
Be sure that you 'seat' each RAM stick firmly, but without forcing them into the slots; the firmness should result in a 'click' that tells you that they are 'seated' correctly, and ready to go.
Whilst inside the iMac, it might pay you to double check all the connecting plugs to make sure that they are firmly in place.
Try these suggestions, and post back with the results.

Kind Regards,

alright, i really can't figure this out. i uninstalled a bunch of software then when i restarted, windows wouldn't boot at all. i had a duel boot setup with linux using the GRUB, but i uninstalled the linux partition a while back and after i restarted it gave me an error that GRUB failed to load. so, i put in my xp home cd. went to the recovery console, did a fixmbr, that didn't work, made a boot disk, that didn't work, so finally did a repair installation of windows, now windows get's to the screen with the bar running accross then restarts, everytime, and i don't know what else i can do. does anyone have any suggestions?

After installing the New Norton Security Suite my computer was working great. But after I tried to reboot, I got this message:

[Windows Product Activation]
A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer.
Error Code: 0x800700c1

I can't log in. I only can boot up in Safe Mode. I can't boot up with Safe Mode with networking, so no internet can be used. I don't have the reinstall disk. But the I386 file is on there. Tried to do a sfc /scannow, but I got this error code: 0x000006ba. When I reboot in normal mode I get another error message: Unable to log you on because of an account restriction. Tried to remove Norton in safe mode but it won't let me. Tried to do a system restore, and it gives me this message: System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer, and then run System Restore again. I called Norton, Microsoft, and Toshiba, and they all wouldn't help unless I paid them $40-$60. And they didn't even know if they could help me. Soooo, I need your help Guys & Gals!!! Just let me know what I should do, and I'll do it.

Dude, you got pwned bad by Norton's firewall . The best to do is reinstall your O.S. and never touch Norton again. The alternative I would try is plugging your hard drive to another computer and removing Norton's folder, but I'm not sure if it would work.

Hello,

My (pensioner) dad's Dell computer is showing the error message

"windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system
you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows set up using the original set up cd-rom. Select "R" at the first screen to start repair"

BEFORE this message appears, a brief message appears saying "Auto-repair in progress" then disappears to be replaced by above error message.

I'm not near the computer but he says it is a black screen with white writing on. Only this error message, nothing else.

He has had the computer for about 6 months with no problems, and was using it last night, when it was functioning as normal.

Thank you

A:Error: Windows32\system32\config\system At Start Up On Xp Home

If he's able to get on the web, the first step is to perform a free, online scan at this address: http://safety.live.com/ (if not, then do it later)Next is to see if he's able to boot into Safe Mode (preferably with Networking Support) by repeatedly tapping the F8 key just as the Windows logo starts to show that Windows is booting (once again, this is if he's able to do it).If not, you'll have to coach him through using his recovery CD to restore the system. The method will depend on the particular Dell model.

For months now I have this annoying thing going on.

When I turn my computer on, before I even type in my windows password, my computer tries to access Goggle.ca. It eventually hangs up and I can delete it and go on with sign in but man it bugs me.

I am computer illiterate but have dug around enough to delete a 'taskdir.exe' malware.
I have the most current version of McAfee, I have done a scan in safe mode and Mcafee is reporting no viruses.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank God I found you... I didnt know there was such a thing as a free forum full of clever IT people... Fabulous But I guess you find these things out when you need to

Here is the short version of my problem... if a fuller version is needed, just let me know !

Ive had problems with my computer for a while and decided that it was time for a bit of a spring clean to try to get rid of some og the annoying little error messages etc. The main problem was that I couldnt install the Service Pack 2.

So I tried to do the Smart Restore and then everything went down hill from there

Now I cant get into Windows at all... Ive installed it, but it appears to be on the H Drive and the computer is set to start in the C drive, so when it tries to start, it tells me to install Windows, but theres not enough room on C... not because theres too much on there, but the C drive is just not large enough to have Windows on it !

When I start the computer in BIOS, Im not given the option to start in H...

Can anyone help ?

I have done a Google search and been the the Microsoft site. I have tried every suggestion: clean boot, MS Update Readiness Program, MS Fix-it Program, Update Reset, disabling my AV and Firewall, Manual and Automatic Update but nothing allows me to update KB2484033, KB2511250, or KB2522422. I have tried 3rd party programs to include: HijackThis, MT RUbot, ComboFix, and FixCleaner and they haven't helped. I have Spybot, McAffee, MS Defender, and I use Windows Firewall. All of these are current and update with no problem.

Can anyone help with this problem.

Just as an aside, both Windows Defender and ALL McAfee products are, in my opinion, worthless. I'd disable Defender (set the Windows Defender service to DISABLED) and uninstall any McAfee product and replace it with ANY other anti virus app.

As for the updates, try system restore to a time before the updates and try again.

Mod Edit: Moved from Win8 to the Am I Infected forum ~~boopmeI randomly decided to look at McAfee and check my settings, etc. When looking at the main screen, everything states its on and green. I had the most current definitions loaded. When I checked my McAfee firewall it stated on. When I clicked to go into the McAfee firewall, the screen then changed and said it was off. When clicking the Turn On button, it would immediately shut off. I searched this issue and the blogs stated to look at the Windows Firewall under Services. When I checked, it was not there. I did a Windows Search for it and found it. When it opens it gives tells me I need to Update the Firewall Settings. When I click on Use Recommended Settings it gives me an error "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error Code 0x8007042c." I've checked out some of the blog discussions and followed a few thread about creating new register.bat files and running them. I've also tried merging some .dll files also per the bloggers. After doing these actions, the Windows Firewall now appears in my Services but when I click to start it I get the error "Windows could not start the Windows Firewall Service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start"

Hi,

For a while I have been having problems updating Windows 7 Home Premium x64 using Windows Update, getting the Error Code 80246008 (please ?Error Code 80246008? pic attached).

I decided to investigate this and found this Microsoft page:
Windows Update error 80246008 - Windows Help

Tried to start BITS but got the Error Code 2147024894 (please see ?BITS start error? pic attached)
I then downloaded WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab and ran it.

Tried first to troubleshoot and repair BITS but also some error messages surfaced (please see ?BITS troubleshooting errors? pic attached)

Then tried to troubleshoot and repair Windows Update but also got error messages (please see ?Windows Update Troubleshooting errors? pic attached)

Yesterday I did also a partial re-installation of the OS (only key files), using the OS image that came pre-installed with the laptop. This did not work. (I did a fresh reinstall of the OS just some 3 weeks ago to get rid of all the little bugs that had accumulated so far, which makes this situation a bit more frustrating).

Since none of these things helped I did what you state on the Windows Update Posting page:
1 ? Ran the SURT from the Desktop and it seemed to install a file. (please see ?Hotfix for Windows message? pic attached). It took about 20 mins or so to do it.
2 ? Did a sfc /scannow from command prompt, logged in as admin. (please see ?sfc scannow check results? pic attached)

Hello
I'm having a problem installing Windows Updates on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit PC - the update process ends with the error code: 800736B3 (see attached screenshot)

I have tried following several suggested courses of action I obtained from several sources, none of which has resolved the problem, including Methods 1 & 2 of Microsoft's

Windows update error code 800736B3 failes to install (KB974455, - Microsoft Community

sfc /scannow -> no errors reported

System Update Readiness Tool -> downloaded, installed successfully - no errors reported.

After running both of these, restarted my PC and then tried to install the Windows updates again - no luck, same error reported.

So now I will see if anyone here can help me?

Thank-you very much in advance for any assistance you can provide.

p.s. the CBS.zip file I created as per the Windows Update Posting Instructions was 76MB, so too large to post! There are several large .cab files in that folder (CbsPersist_%.cab) - can I exclude those from the zip file?

Looks like you reinstalled using retail media, rather than the manufacturer's Recovery media.

You really need to try and read that COA sticker - it may be your only chance.

If you can't, then you'll have to try and order a set of Recovery disks from Fujitsu for your computer, and do a clean install from that.

I am trying to help my daughter who is having trouble when she starts her computer. A message appears on the screen saying checking file system on C the type of file system is fat 32 one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency you may cancel the disk check but it is strongly recommended that you continue, windows will now check the disk , it sometimes goes on to check disk space as well. This doesn't happen everytime she starts up but enough to be annoying because it takes so long to go through the checks, approx 40mins or so. Once it has started to check she can't cancel it. She has Windows XP Home Edition 40gb with 28gb free space. Why would it be doing this for no apparent reason? So, a friend of mine ran into some kind of problem where her user account profile got corrupted. It might be related to an infection of some kind but I'm not sure. I was running a Spybot scan on another account and it found some things and when I tried logging into the "problem" account, Windows informed me the profile was corrupt and couldn't be loaded and it proceed to build a NEW account with the same userid.

I was then logged into this new account which had the default wallpaper and desktop icons, etc. Her "My Documents" folder was basically empty (didn't have her documents in it).

So, I found her documents in the OLD (corrupt) account's "My Documents" folder and copied them to the "My Documents" folder in the newly built account. That was fine for about a week until for some reason Windows restored her old, supposedly corrupt account and her old desktop icons re-appeared as did her old wallpaper, etc. The thing is, her documents are now missing again and I can't find them at all.

So, my question is: would doing a system restore to a point before when all this strangeness started happening restore her missing documents as well or is that not captured when a restore point is created?

Does the behavior about sound "normal" for Windows when it detects a corrupt user account or does it sound more like an infection of some kind is the culprit?

Thanks!

Peace...

A:Question about system restore in XP Home Edition

System Restore does not track documents. It's pretty much system files only.

1) For next time, here is the proper way to Copy a corrupted user profile

2) Try searching for the documents by name. Make sure you go into the advance search options and enable searching in hidden and system folders.

Hi,

I am currently having issues starting up my laptop which is running windows 7 home premium. It gets to the 'Starting Windows' screen with the Windows logo and gets stuck (the windows logo is still animated it just does not proceed further). I have searched the Internet high and low including these forums for an answer and I've tried as many possible solutions as I could but I cannot figure it out!

How it started:
About 2 days ago I noticed my laptop slowed down quite drastically and so I launched task manager which showed the CPU usage was at about 30% with no programs running and none of the processes in task manager appeared to be responsible.

The start menu froze so I rebooted the computer by holding the power button and I have not been able to launch windows since.

I attempted to run safe mode but once it booted no text appeared and I then got a BSOD with the error code STOP: 0x00000050. I then booted it under "directory services restore mode" which worked and then safe mode worked after that, not sure why....

Also, under device manager I noticed that the "security processor loader" driver was not working correctly (error code: 24) so recently I uninstalled this driver.

Solutions Tried (roughly in order attempted and restarted after each attempt):
Tried start-up repair many times but get an error "system files integrity check and repair 0x490 error"
System restore
Attempted a clean boot
Did chkdsk /f from safe mode (returned nothin... Read more

I'm running Windows 7, and I get Error code 0x80070422 when I try to enable Windows Defender.

Possibly related: I also can't enable Windows Firewall (I select "use recommended settings," and nothing happens), and when I run the firewall fix it diagnostic from http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_firewall_diagnostic/, I get "we're worry, but the program encountered an error trying to contact the server. Please try again later. [Code 80092009]"

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A:Can't start Windows Defender: Error code 0x80070422

Hi wmm,

Can you give a little input as to when this started happening? Infections can make this happen as well.

1. Click on start, type Services.msc and click enter

2. Click Windows Defender Service

3. Right Click and Go to Properties

4. Start the service and also make it Automatic.

Additionally, you might want to download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and do check for malware just in case.

Hope it helps

Hello:

I'm looking for some assistance. I have a Lenovo 8811 ThinkCentre desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1; 2.13gig Intel Pentium Core2 with 3 MB memory.

This is my teenage son's computer. We are trying to set up workgroup to share files across wireless network (having difficulty there, but that is another story). I noticed Windows Firewall not operational. When attempting to turn on firewall and update settings, receive message that "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error code 0x8007042c."

We use Windows Essentials for virus protections. I tried some things I found researching, but it hasn't help. Updated Windows Firewall Authorization Driver Startup type to Demand and other things. Ran Malware, SuperAntiSpyware that found several trojans, adware, etc. Disenfected and reemoved but still can't start Windows Firewall.

I'm sure there are other issues with this machine, but not having working firewall scares me. My son tells me a "Dirty Install" will fix this. I don't know what that is?

Any help is appreciated to get the Firewall up and running. Please advise if you need additional details. Thanks in advance!

I run Windows Vista Home Edition Premium 32-Bit. Lately, I've been encountering several problems. Almost every time I turn on the computer, start-up repair runs. In addition, all of my programs respond much more slowly than they previously had. I've scanned numerous times with both MalByte's Anti-Malware and Spybot, but I cannot seem to find any significant issues.I've ended any unnecessary processes, disabled many of my visual themes, and increased my amount of virtual ram, but I haven't noticed a change. I decided to download HiJack this, in case I am overlooking something. Here is the log:

had another computer with an hp recovery problem. Both in partial and full recovery (f10) I got the code purple error. On an old thread I found that the best idea was to eliminate or modify the cfgchk.bat file I tried both the first by deleting it. It did a partial help but did not complete the recovery. I then removed the hard drive and installed it on another xp system. I was able to see the configcheck folder in F:\hp\bin\configcheck\cfgchk.bat file. I went back to c: and did a run cmd to open the dos box. I tried to go to the F: drive to modify the batch file but I couldn't get to it. I went back to the f drive and copied the file to the c drive. I went back in to the cmd module and ran edit.I was able to find the batch file this time and deleted the line pylon c:\hp\bin\configcheck\run.py .I then copied the file back to the F: drive and pasted it to replace the original. I closed things down and removed the hard drive back to the HP. I restarted it and lo and behold it was working. Even then running it the rest of the recovery seemed touch and go. They really want to control things and make it difficult to recover from a crash. I think it is one system I will not be purchasing.

Well i've read alot about this on various forums and nothing seemed to work for everyone, but all the forums i went to failed to say that HP supports code purple free now. I'm not sure when this started, but i was having some start-up problems with my win vista home basic 32bit and i thought i might have to do a recovery to fix it so I called hp support (1800-474-6889) and they said even if my warranty was expired they "in most cases" fix code purple free now. I guess it takes about 15 days. I also went on to ask about recovery disk (which don't come with most computers now) and they said that for the cost of shipping you can have them mailed to you in days for about $18 dollars. i wonder if anyone has had hp fix this free or if this worked for anyone or maybe they were feeding me a line?

Am having the Code Purple and have received the run around from HP
about shipping my computer in for repairs at a cost of $250.00.....yada.......yada
yada.

What I would like to know is this: If I purchase a new XP PRO SP2 disk will
I be able to just load it up and it will do it's thing OVER this code purple and
my computer will be operable.

I hate to buy this disk and then find out it won't work.

Am using an *a1630N* HP computer. Only had it for about 18 months.

I removed the hard drive from their Pavilion and put it in the other system. The writer of the blog had found the file that was doing the anti-piracy check at:

C:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck\cfgchk.bat

The cfgchk.bat file contains the following:

c:\hp\bin\hpdmi r > dmiout.txt
python c:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck\run.py
del dmiout.txt
cd ..
rd /s /q c:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck

The invocation of run.py is the actual check. The way the anti-piracy mechanism seems to work is to loop in the check if the comparison between the motherboard BIOS string (returned by hpdmi.exe) and the expected value fails. By looping in the error message, the check effectively puts the brakes on Syscheck, so the final configuration of XP never completes and you don’t get to a functional Windows desktop. Since the loop is in run.py, you can bypass the problem by just removing the invocation of the Python script. In other words, delete the line

python c:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck\run.py

Hello. I am new to this forum seeking help on my just discovered problem. I just changed out my motherboard that failed on my Pavillion a805n. Once I finally put it back together and did the HP Windows Recovery, I got a 'System Configuration Error' (AKA Code Purple). I called HP and they told me that since I'm out of warranty, they will not help me !!!
Does anyone here know of something I can do to fix or atleast bypass my problem? (I REALLY don't want to pay HP!)

Thanks

Anyone ever hear of "Windows Configuration Error : Code Purple". Confused the hell out of me. This was on an OEM version of Windows XP, occured out of the box on the windows splash screen even before hitting the "out of box experience" to config XP for the first time. rebooted w/o error came right to the OOBE but im just curious what exactly this is. any help for the completely 'befuddled'. Could not find any reference through microsoft, google, or other tech forums.

A:Code Purple?

for future reference if anyone needs to know : it looks like the OEM software may cause this in most cases if it is not active in your start up list . why it occured out of the box is still odd but if it occurs out of the blue (or purple heheheheh....sigh) then try enabling any bundled OEM software if you can get into msconfig from safemode.

Well yesterday, I got my new motherboard in. It's an Asus. I started it up, did a clean install, and when the screen came up saying, "Windows is setting up your desktop for first time," a box saying there was an error in the configuration (code purple) popped up. I'm not sure how to fix this, can someone help me?

A:Code Purple (hp) help

Code Purple error results when you try to install a Compaq/HP tattooed OS onto a non-tattooed motherboard.
This tattoo can go missing if your computer has been in a shop and had its motherboard replaced with a non-Compaq/Hp tattooed motherboard. To repair this, you will have to get the motherboard re-tattooed by Compaq/HP in order to reinstall the Compaq/HP tattooed OS install disk that came with the computer.
An alternative to doing this is to purchase a retail copy of the Windows OS, such as buying a retail copy of Windows 7. These retail copies of the OS will install on any brand of computer and do not require a tattoo to be present.
