Windows XP: Configuration Error - Code Purple

Q: Windows XP: Configuration Error - Code Purple

Hi,
I have been looking all over the net to find out what this problem is, but alas, nobody has been able to identify it. Basically, my computer had a blue screen that flashes with the message HP Invent, that goes by rather quickly, followed by a black screen with safe mode options et al. When attempting a recovery I got the code purple error. I have read several people mention a motherboard issue that is not 'tatooed' correctly. But this motherboard is the original that came with my PC in 2003! There have been no upgrades in at least four years. The only new addition has been a Sony monitor recently. Please can someone tell me what this Code Purple error is, and how to resolve it. Time and assistance will be gratefully received.

Regards,

A: Windows XP: Configuration Error - Code Purple

If its the motherboard going bad all you can do is replace it if you so choose.Motherboards can be expensive to replace and they dont last forever.

I just recently ran a System Recovery on my Windows XP Home Edition SP3 computer and after the recovery is done I restarted the system and then this message shows up and I'm stuck here.

I don't have any disc that came with the computer because that was a very long time ago already. I tried to download the "Windows XP Home Edition Set Up Disk for Floppy Boot Installation" from Microsoft but I can't run the ff:

Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Home Edition SP1
Windows XP Home Edition SP2

I can't create the Set Up Disk For Home Edition, SP1, and SP2 because this computer I'm using right now is a 64 bit and no floppy disk drive. That's why I downloaded this instead:
Windows XP Service Pack 3 - ISO-9660 CD Image File
from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2fcde6ce-b5fb-4488-8c50-fe22559d164e&displaylang=en

I burned it to a DVD ROM but I don't know what to do next. After burning I reinserted the disc to this computer and the autorun activated. Then I inserted the disc to my Windows XP which has "System Configuration Error" and tried to reboot it but theres no autoplay or anything the computer still goes through the "System Configuration Error" message and I don't know how to access the set up disc. What should I do? Help please..

I would like to say hello to everybody here. I have a problem. My problem is the nasty dredful Code Purple Configuration Error for HP. I have been working on a HP Pavilian mini tower, and I ended up having to destructive restore it. I then restart the tower, and I get this Config Error code Purple. I don't mess with HP very much (I compac/HP) I have also did my research on the problem, and I know its got a tatoo on the mother board(haven't added any hardware, and the reason for the restore everytime I tried to logon, it would say saving settings and restart) Of course this computer hasn't came with a restore disk, its on a partition of its own. I know their was a lawsuit over HP sending restore disk, and I also know I need to put the hardrive in a different tower and delete a bin file. Here's the problem. I have been fighting with hp over this restore disk and wanting me to pay for tech support. I feel I shouldn't pay for tech support because this problem was caused by them. My question is there away to fix this easier than the other ways shown on this forum. I never have hook up a hp hard drive to a different tower(which I don't think will post any problems, but then when deleting bin files or even locating these file. I am not too comfortable with doing. Will someone either let me know a easy way to fix this or instruct me in which is the best way and the step to fix it. Sorry for acting like a dumby, but i am not trying to mess up this HP comp... Read more

I'm guessing nobody wants to touch this with a 10ft. pole. I still have the same problem with this HP, and I really don't know what will work to fix this, and if there is a way to do it easier. I have read alot about this subject, but really can't find the correct way to get this up and running. If someone could help that would be great.

No answer Last week, the computer no longer got past the microsoft logo (note no discs of any kind came with the computer, just it the mouse and the keyboardy from Best Buy) and no there isn't extra warranty on it. Ok i did system recovery, didn't work, system restor to last point it was working didn't work. Now it has obviosuly recognized i did a recovery so it goes to the logo screen and then the white box "Configuration Number Error)" comes up. Tells me to call HP to obtain it and the story goes on. Is there any backdoor tricks to obtain the config number, or of any fixes you know.I was wondering if it was a complete hard drive fail.  Any help is grealty appreciated! Thanks,Rosemary

When exactly do you get the message? Is it before Windows starts to boot? How does the message appear? Is it white lettering on a black background?

Does the machine boot? If so, how (What do you have to do after you see the message to get it to boot)?

Hi!
I'm working on a HP computer running XP Pro. When the computer would try to boot up to Windows an error message would appear stating that there was a configuration error and to contact the manufacturer. Then in paranthesis (Code Purple).

I did a search for Code Purple on the internet and got a number of hits, but only one seemed to have any suggestions for a solution.

This is what I found out and this is what I did (Some of these I copied and pasted from this blog - but just changed them to indicate specifically what I did I don't want to take credit for their great suggestions - the blog is at: http://www.billoblog.com/billoblog/?p=152#comments )

Code Purple is something you get on HP/Compaq machines when they need a "Tattoo" - likely a mobo failure. Contact your suppliers techie support so they can send an engineer out to fix it - if in the UK and the PC was from PC World, Dixons, Currys or Currys.Digital its (0870) 901 3000

HP sent me a new pre imaged hard drive to install in my computer. This was to warranty a bad hard drive. It was supposed to be simple, just turn it on and windows 7 would install itself. When I turned it on I got system configuration error code purple. Can I fix this myself. If so, How? If there is a fix outside of calling HP, do you think it would void the warranty?

Hello!

A virus corrupted my system yesterday and I decided to do a full recovery from the partition. This is an HP, and of course it was afflicted with the infamous "Code Purple" error upon recovery. I have no real way to fix this on my own, so I'm thinking about just installing a new OS. I wanted to upgrade to windows 7 anyway.

So, will installing Windows 7 onto this system (which was previously running Vista, but it's been reformatted so that won't matter) fix the code purple error? I've seen some places recommending this way to fix it. Just wondering if anyone knows for sure if the new OS will give me any issues because of this error.

Thanks!

A:Will Installing Windows 7 Fix "Code Purple" Error?

I don't think it give an error if you run a clean install of any OS (Operating System). All you have to backup your data's in other drive (in Same Hard Disk) or different external Hard Disk.

Than boot with your Windows 7
1. It will ask you to boot from CD or DVD press any key... (press any key)
2. It will load windows 7 in your RAM memory.
3. Accept the licensing aggreement.
4. Select the partition in which you want to install Win 7.
5. Click on Format.
6. Click on Yes to confirm formatting (It will give a warning that it will delete all the data's and contents in the partition.)
7. Automatically it will format and copy the system files into your Hard Disk.
8. Enter the key, click next
9. Enter the system name, click next
10. Enter username and password, click next
11. Select express or custom installtion, click next
12. Automatically system will restart.
13. Login with the username and password provided.

That's it. Am sure you won't get any "Code Purple" error.

Can someone share the commands to get rid of a code purple? I have a hp pavilion a824 using XP Home..

A:code purple Windows XP

I believe I`m right in thinking that a code purple occurs when either the mobo is faulty or the original hardware has had some other hardware added to it that doesn`t match and mainly occurs on HP and Compaq computers.

The OEM mobo has what they call a `tattoo` embedded on it so that on a re-install, you can only use the original mobo and hardware that was attached at the time of purchase and any major move away from that configuration, will flag up an error.

I`ve read that you can bypass the `code purple` by changing a particular file. The file is called run.py and can be found here ... c:\hp\bin\configcheck\run.py and you change it to run.p and reboot. (You may have to enable showing of hidden & system files)

Another way would be to remove any hardware added since it`s birth and revert back to the original configuration, then try running a repair or re-install using the recovery disk/s that came with it.

I haven`t had personal experience with this problem so I`m happy to be put right if anyone has any other suggestions.

The invocation of run.py is the actual check. The way the anti-piracy mechanism seems to work is to loop in the check if the comparison between the motherboard BIOS string (returned by hpdmi.exe) and the expected value fails. By looping in the error message, the check effectively puts the brakes on Syscheck, so the final configuration of XP never completes and you don’t get to a functional Windows desktop. Since the loop is in run.py, you can bypass the problem by just removing the invocation of the Python script. In other words, delete the line

Anyone ever hear of "Windows Configuration Error : Code Purple". Confused the hell out of me. This was on an OEM version of Windows XP, occured out of the box on the windows splash screen even before hitting the "out of box experience" to config XP for the first time. rebooted w/o error came right to the OOBE but im just curious what exactly this is. any help for the completely 'befuddled'. Could not find any reference through microsoft, google, or other tech forums.

A:Code Purple?

for future reference if anyone needs to know : it looks like the OEM software may cause this in most cases if it is not active in your start up list . why it occured out of the box is still odd but if it occurs out of the blue (or purple heheheheh....sigh) then try enabling any bundled OEM software if you can get into msconfig from safemode.

had another computer with an hp recovery problem. Both in partial and full recovery (f10) I got the code purple error. On an old thread I found that the best idea was to eliminate or modify the cfgchk.bat file I tried both the first by deleting it. It did a partial help but did not complete the recovery. I then removed the hard drive and installed it on another xp system. I was able to see the configcheck folder in F:\hp\bin\configcheck\cfgchk.bat file. I went back to c: and did a run cmd to open the dos box. I tried to go to the F: drive to modify the batch file but I couldn't get to it. I went back to the f drive and copied the file to the c drive. I went back in to the cmd module and ran edit.I was able to find the batch file this time and deleted the line pylon c:\hp\bin\configcheck\run.py .I then copied the file back to the F: drive and pasted it to replace the original. I closed things down and removed the hard drive back to the HP. I restarted it and lo and behold it was working. Even then running it the rest of the recovery seemed touch and go. They really want to control things and make it difficult to recover from a crash. I think it is one system I will not be purchasing.

Well i've read alot about this on various forums and nothing seemed to work for everyone, but all the forums i went to failed to say that HP supports code purple free now. I'm not sure when this started, but i was having some start-up problems with my win vista home basic 32bit and i thought i might have to do a recovery to fix it so I called hp support (1800-474-6889) and they said even if my warranty was expired they "in most cases" fix code purple free now. I guess it takes about 15 days. I also went on to ask about recovery disk (which don't come with most computers now) and they said that for the cost of shipping you can have them mailed to you in days for about $18 dollars. i wonder if anyone has had hp fix this free or if this worked for anyone or maybe they were feeding me a line?

I'm not sure how to fix this, can someone help me?

A:Code Purple (hp) help

Code Purple error results when you try to install a Compaq/HP tattooed OS onto a non-tattooed motherboard.
This tattoo can go missing if your computer has been in a shop and had its motherboard replaced with a non-Compaq/Hp tattooed motherboard. To repair this, you will have to get the motherboard re-tattooed by Compaq/HP in order to reinstall the Compaq/HP tattooed OS install disk that came with the computer.
An alternative to doing this is to purchase a retail copy of the Windows OS, such as buying a retail copy of Windows 7. These retail copies of the OS will install on any brand of computer and do not require a tattoo to be present.

Windows 7 x64 system installed last week. All has gone well until a while ago...Adobe Acrobat downloaded an update and installed it, then asked to restart the machine.

At restart Windows quit and offered to restart normally or to repair itself. I let it try to repair itself, but it repeatedly failed, with the error:

*Boot configuration is corrupt.
Result: Failed. Error code=0x490*

In addition, I noticed that windows apparently is not finding the boot drive...looking at the repair log I saw:

System Disk=\Device\Harddisk\Windows directory-\\?\GLOBAL ROOT\Device\Harddisk1\Partition2\Windows

Windows appears to be looking at the wrong disk...it's installed on a new drive with only one partition. Using the Command Prompt option in the repair window, I could not access the *real* drive "C" (Drive 0), only Drive 1, which has two partitions for D and E.

Hiren's Boot CD running NTFS4DOS does not see drive 0 at all and also shows Drive 1, Partition 1 as drive C. Hiren's mini-WinXP shows a drive C designated as "System Reserved" - and shows Drive 1 as drives D and E on its partitions 1 and 2 respectively.

Mini-WinXP shows the otherwise elusive disk 0 as disk F.

I could sure use some ideas for a fix...I didn't have many to begin with and by now I'm down to none! Thanks in advance, if anyone can help.

This is the error message that my computer had:
"Recovery
Your PC/Device needs to be repaired
The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors
File:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD
Error code: 0xc0000185
You'll need to use recovery tools. If you dont have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer.
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings"
I made a recovery drive and set the UEFI to a USB boot, and when I tried to boot it with a blank USB it didnt recognize it, but when I used the recovery usb it recognized it. I did that to check and see if it actually recognized the recovery data.
Now when I boot it just has the Lenovo screen and the swirling dots. it's been doing this for about a half hour. Is this normal or is there an issued with the hatdware?

A:Boot Configuration Data is missing, Error Code 0xc0000185

The Error code: 0xc0000185 is an I/O error.
This can be a hardware problem or a software problem.
So the first thing to do is to run diagnostics on the hard drive ( http://www.carrona.org/hddiag.html )

If you have difficulties booting to the disk/drive, post back and we'll see about changing some settings in the UEFI to allow the boot.
I'm working on a drive that will do this for you, but it's still in the testing phase (and it's a 700+ mB download).

If the drive is dead/dying, you may have problems trying to recover your data.
Do you have a recent backup?  If not, post back for suggestions on how to best backup your information.

FYI - if it is dying, then it's best not to use the drive at all until you've done the backup.
If the drive does die fully, then data recovery gets very expensive (up to $2000 (US)) if it's even possible.

As an HP Phone tech, I get this error code call in a few times a month. The solution is this.....Send it in for a new system. We were told that no troubleshooting is required. In or out of warrenty, code purple is a new system. If you don't want to wait for the new system, here's a fix for it......

What in the world is “Error Code Purple,” ? A quick search on the net revealed that this was a booby trap placed in computers in which a “tattoo” or numerical signature of the motherboard and hardware configuration is created at the factory and encoded into the restore disks on a particular computer. When you re-install your system, it checks to make sure the system has not been modified. If you have modified your system, the “tattoo” generated by the checking program will be different than the original, and the system will not boot.

The underlying problem is that there is a .bat file that calls a python script to check the tattoo upon boot up.

If you remove that call, then there is no check and the machine boots up just fine.

The file is:

C:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck\cfgchk.bat

The solution is to get a boot disk that will allow you to edit the hard drive and clear that file. I just deleted everything in cfgchk.bat and left an empty file with that name. Rebooted the system and bypassed the error code.

My computer had issues after I had done recovery back to factory settings. I wanted to recover to that point because I had dowloaded many different programs recently and I could not figure out exactly was causing issues on my computer. It would restart itself, and different messages would pop up, the last being: IRQ not less but equal(atleast, this is how I remember it).

But after backing up my files on cd's, dvd's and usb, I set it back to factory settings, and I would get the : configuration error, code purple.

I tried to perform system recovery again, and what ever option I could find I would try, but no good. I then tried using my Vista recovery cds, and I would get : "This PC is not supported by the System Recovey Discs. You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these disks. "

The only way I was able to get my computer running again is that I luckily had recently copied Windows 7 to a dvd (my original OS was Vista), the windows 7 I had gotten as a free educational download from my college.
So I just popped it in and let it run on its own. But if this is the only way to get out of code purple(as was my experience) this sucks, because not everyone has an OS disk available. And remember, my Vista recovery disks were not working.

My computer is working, I'm so happy now .

I was following this information

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/469752-code-purple-configuration-error-hp.html

for my Compaq sr5510f, but

c:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck\cfgchk.bat didn't exist. c:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck\run.py did though.

The original instructions might work with some modification, but I just moved c:\hp\bin to c:\hp\bin_orig.

Things seem to be fine so far.

I don't think I'll be needing any HP software on my machine.

Just wanted to make a note for anyone it may help.

Thanks!

A:Will new Windows Install Fix "Code Purple"?

Posts 1 and 8 in this thread talk about fixes that you could do yourself. You could also email HP tech support for advice.

This seems to be an error involving matching a particular motherboard to a particular Recovery partition or disk, so I think that installing an OS would not be affected. What other issues you may have with a different OS are difficult to predict. Usually there are few problems when using Windows 7 on a computer that originally ran Vista.

please reference this closed post - http://forums.techguy.org/windows-xp/469752-code-purple-configuration-error-hp.html

I got around the error by following the post above (copied part of post and placed below) but also had to do one extra step:

1.- Do a complete recovery using recovery partition or the Recovery DVD's/CD's

2.- When you get the error use a MiniPe CD or enter a BootCD to Load Dos or some Environment with ntfs Support, and some app to edit textfiles and boot into that (or power down the machine and remove HDD and use a USB adapter to hook into a working machine)

3.- Get into C:\hp\bin\CheckDMI folder

4.- Open CheckDMI.cmd File with a textfile editing app

5.- Look for the below code:

if not exist c:\hp\support\DMIinfo.ini (
echo "Cannot locate DMIinfo.ini. No DMI validation was performed." >%CodePurpleLog%
goto mismatch
)
copy c:\hp\support\DMIinfo.ini /y /v >NUL
c:\hp\bin\cPC_rDMI.exe /rall >DMIofUUT.ini
6.- Change 'mismatch' to 'cleanup'

if not exist c:\hp\support\DMIinfo.ini (
echo "Cannot locate DMIinfo.ini. No DMI validation was performed." >%CodePurpleLog%
goto cleanup
)
copy c:\hp\support\DMIinfo.ini /y /v >NUL
c:\hp\bin\cPC_rDMI.exe /rall >DMIofUUT.ini

7.- Extra step* The code goes on to call another file that checks DMI as well:

Anyone ever hear of "Windows Configuration Error : Code Purple". Confused the hell out of me. This was on an OEM version of Windows XP, occured out of the box on the windows splash screen even before hitting the "out of box experience" to config XP for the first time. rebooted w/o error came right to the OOBE but im just curious what exactly this is. any help for the completely 'befuddled'. Could not find any reference through microsoft, google, or other tech forums.

Boot from a live cd or recovery cd like miniPE and just rename the c:\hp folder to something else. Reboot and finish installation.

So I have read the threads on Code Purple restart fixes etc. but I don't know exactly how to apply that to my current situation.

I was attempting to fix my parents' computer to factory settings and I was successful in reformatting however I did recieve the code purple message upon restart. Their computer, a Compaq 55400NX, came with a recovery CD but when I insert it I don't really get anything different nor can I recieve a new recovery page. See, when I press R to get to the recovery screen I am prompted with a system restore, not any of these special menus where I can access the files or anything like that. And now, after trying various options through the F8 menu, I only recieve an 'inproper/ incomplete setup' notice, not even a code purple!

Needless to say, I feel very out of my league. HELP!!!

A:Compaq Recovery Issues- Code Purple + ...? PLEASE HELP!!!

The Configuration error : Code Purple is usually a corrupt motherboard, as OEMs will place identification on the motherboard to verify the CD belongs to it and if it doesn't match you will get this error. Usually on Compaq or HP PCs.

Try inserting the CD, then restarting and upon restart hitting Esc - do you get any bootup options? If you can see a "boot from" menu then choose your CD and continue the format and factory restore.

If not, clear the CMOS ("reset the CMOS" or "load default values") through the BIOS and then retry again.

Hi,

Unfortunately I didn't buy extended warranty so when my motherboard died I had to fix it.

I researched the Code P fixes and it looks like this one will work but I have been unable to

find the commands or a way to open and edit the file which I was able to locate.

First I couldn't find this file; (below) so I went on to a more recent try listed below ====

remove the line "python c:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck\run.py"
from.............. {drive}:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck\cfgchk.bat as you suggested!
I put the HDD back in the computer & it booted past the CODE PURPLE ERROR.
===============================================================

Found this file but can't open it to edit it;
1. Once the error box comes up press shift and F-10 to get a command line. WORKED
gives you c:\windows\support32>

2. Navigate to the following folder. WAS ABLE TO LIST FILES IN FOLDER using dir command
1 C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\

3. Enter the following command.
1 checkdmi.cmd

I can not get it to open this file and when I enter checkdmi.cmd ; response is not recognized

When I type in C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\checkdmi.cmd , I get stopped by another box that just has an OK
box and the close X in the upper right hand corner, no message, clicking on either one gives you a
c:\hp\bin\CheckDMI> prompt which lasts for a few seconds then the computer is shutdown.

I was able to type in C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\exclude.txt which opened this file in notepad.

I have about 15 laptops running Windows 7 Pro SP1 (brand new, just out of the box).  I've been able to install quite a few updates on about 3 of them (just started working on them).  However, now, I'm getting error code 80200011 when I attempt
to install additional "required" updates.
I've tried clearing the BITS queue, deleting softwaredistribution folder and ran SFC and nothing came up as being an issue.  I've searched the net on this issue, but there doesn't appear to be much on this specific problem.  These systems
are behind a proxy server.  I have other (XP, Windows 2003) systems that are able to update, but is there an issue between WIn 7 and some proxy servers?  If so, why would I be able to install some updates?
Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks all.

Hi,
Chek that your proxy is configured correctly, and if you can follow these steps to resolve this issue : stop the Windows Update service and make sure that the "Backround Intelligent Transfer Service" and "Cryptographic service" are started and then go to
C:\Windows and rename the software distribution folder to UpdateOLD , and finally restart the Windows Update Service

I'm hoping that I just misunderstood what you typed and you weren't connecting the monitor while the PC was powered ON. If not, lesson learned. Aside from Plug and Play hardware, don't connect/disconnect anything while the PC is powered ON.

With that said, try manually clearing the CMOS. If you need step by step instructions, they should be available on the Dell website.

Not sure if this is really an OS issue or my video card or what. In the middle of playing WOW a few days ago, my husband's monitor went haywire with odd shapes and then displayed a message about nv4_disp caused an error and then it shut down. We then tried rebooting and it only got to the welcome blue screen and froze there with the username and password box distorted. It also displays all of the boot-up screen text in purple which is weird - normally white.

It boots up in safe mode, so I booted up and rolled back to the last restore point, rebooted in normal mode and then updated the video card driver. It worked fine for me while I watched a movie clip and some other things, then my husband booted up the next day and as soon as he got in to WOW it crashed again with the same error.

I decided since it had been a while, and we have a newer HD now, I removed the IDE drive that windows was on, and installed it on one of the newer SATA drives which is much bigger. I am still in the process of reinstalling windows but right off the bat we still have the purple text so I know the problem is not resolved. Ay suggestions?

For some reason my Windows 7 Home Premium (32bit) PC is now refusing to operate the DVD ROM and DVD RW Drives. A suspect the latest update to iTunes as they were working fine till the automatic install for that failed. Had to do it manually & that went with some hiccoughs, needing to "Retry" to get it to complete successfully.

The problem is when I try and use a DVD drive you hear it react to the disc, but Autoplay does not run.

Checking in the Device Manager on the General Tab, there is the following message (for both drives)
<< Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19) >>

I checked this on the Internet and tried as suggested going to Device manager and Uninstalling both drives. Restarting my PC and letting the "Found New Hardware" re-install them.

Sadly this failed...

I then checked whether the driver software for the Device was up to date. It reported that the software for the device is up to date.

Hi everyone,

I tried to install new updates of Ableton live and the machine crashed badly... and since them it has really gone a bit wonky.

When I press the on button to boot up the laptop I get the following message.

The Windows Boot Configuration Data (BCD) Store file contains some invalid information.

Object : GUID : (8cb2db4-7co5-11de842e-bt611d44fefa)

Description: Windows recovery format.

Status: oxcoooooo24

Info: The configuation for an element within the object is invalid in the boot configuation store.

The assiocated windows boot loader entry may not be available for selection until the problem is rectified by an administrator.

Enter= continue.

So then I press enter... it boots up. (in about 5 seconds as it is a ssd...)

When I do this action: to see if I can do a restore etc...

Start-Control Panel- the progress bar at the top of the expoler window freezes half way and I cannot access any of the menu Items.

Also I canot move this panel or close the window.

I have a back up on another external drive ..... plus I have made a repair disk and so on when I first got the machine.

I would be stoked if you could provide me with the next steps so I can resolve this situation.

Thanks for your time, now lets party on and delve deep into the abyss

A:Windows Boot Configuration Data (BCD) store file error.

Hallo,

Hello everyone, I hope this is the right subforum to ask this question, I googled alot, but none of the solutions I have found work. Perhaps someone might be able to help me here. I have a Sony Vaio with a built in microphone, which works perfectly. I'm running Win 7 Home Premium x64. Now when I first started Windows Speech Recognition it guided me trough the tutorial, everything worked perfect, the mic understood everything. But after the tutorial was finished and I acutally wanted to start using the program I get the following error, and it instantly closes:

One thing I saw in a thread and that I tried was

Changed Location to United States
Changed Keyboard layout to English (US)
Changed System Locale to English (US)

The Speech Recognition Language Control Panel > Ease of Access > Speech Recognition > Advanced speech options:

Help I need assistance solving this problem.

When installing Windows 2000 setup copies the initial files to the hard drive and then restarts to begin the 1st stage of setup.

The system begins the startup process by "Loading the Windows Executive" At this point setup stalls and gives the following message:
"Setup cannot load ntkrnlmp.exe the error code is 16"
This error is duplicated in different releases in win2k from the beta 3 to the final releases.

Hi,
I have been having some recurring problems with the attempts to install some automatic windows updates.

Security Update for Microsoft Office Acess 2007
Security Update for Microsoft Office Outlook Junk Email Filter

I am not able to install these updates, maybe any other updates in general. After attempting the install the following install window says, "Windows Update encountered an unknown error." Next to it an error code 80070643. Microsoft provides a solution to the problem, by re-installing Microsoft NET. Framework. They also provide a link to the program NET. Framework cleanup tool that enables you to uninstall NET. Framework, and it's components.

I followed Microsoft's instructions to solve the issue, though I've been put at a standstill. I have used the NET. Framework Cleanup tool to uninstall NET. Framework and it's components (states that it uninstalls all versions, 1.1 SP1 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5.) Then afterwards instructed to reinstall NET. Framework, specifically in an order, 3.5 then, 1.1, then 1.1 SP1. I start with 3.5, then as the installation starts it says that to contiunue installation I must turn off or on windows features in the Control Panel. I do so and turn off all Windows features. Then continue and it again states to turn off features in the Control Panel.

I wasn't able to continue the process, and I am also concerned that this is the same error that made me unable to install Microsoft Security Essentials, (as t... Read more

I was given an HP Compaq Presario C500 that was headed for the garbage because it would not connect to the internet. After running several scans ESET online scanner came up clean. Installed Microsoft Security Essentials and installed SP1, and can't get it to install SP2. I keep getting error code 80070017 / Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

I would prefer to reformat but Recovery Manager restarts back into Windows and I have no disks.

Can provide a long list of what has been done if needed including WU Modules (Normal Mode) and WU Components fixes. Permissions point in every which way but the correct way!

Any help would be much appreciated!

I have been having problems installing 8 updates since early May 2012. I am getting the error code in the title line.

The updates are:

[LIST][*]Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2596672)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2596792)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2596880)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2597162)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 suites (KB2597969)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB2597161)[*]Security Update for Microsoft Office Word 2007 (KB2596917)[*]Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB2687267)

I have run FixIt, but to no avail. I have also turned off services and rebooted and ran Windows Update and still got this error.

Do I need to just skip these updates, or somehow troubleshoot this and fix it. If I need to fix it, I need help.

Regards, and thanks.

Mod Edit: Moved from Win8 to the Am I Infected forum ~~boopmeI randomly decided to look at McAfee and check my settings, etc.  When looking at the main screen, everything states its on and green.  I had the most current definitions loaded.  When I checked my McAfee firewall it stated on.  When I clicked to go into the McAfee firewall, the screen then changed and said it was off.  When clicking the Turn On button, it would immediately shut off.  I searched this issue and the blogs stated to look at the Windows Firewall under Services.  When I checked, it was not there.  I did a Windows Search for it and found it.  When it opens it gives tells me I need to Update the Firewall Settings.  When I click on Use Recommended Settings it gives me an error "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings.  Error Code 0x8007042c." I've checked out some of the blog discussions and followed a few thread about creating new register.bat files and running them.  I've also tried merging some .dll files also per the bloggers.  After doing these actions, the Windows Firewall now appears in my Services but when I click to start it I get the error "Windows could not start the Windows Firewall Service on Local Computer.  Error 1068:  The dependency service or group failed to start"

Windows 8, "File: \BCD Error Code: 0xc0000034"

Good Day Everyone,

Trying to resolve this error:

I have a Window 8 recovery USB and a Windows 8.1 recovery USB both from another laptop...

Mine are 32 bit machines, if the laptop i am working on is 64 bit will it boot on my USB recovery that is from a 32 bit machine? My buddy doesn't know if this troubled laptop is 32 or 64 bit

When I use the recovery usb and try a refresh or a comlete format it comes back telling me the drive is locked and stops in its tracks.

Also from a the dos command window (from the recover usb advanced option section) i have tried the following with NO success...

Bootrec /fixmbr - successful but didn't help
Bootrec Fixboot - successful but didn't help
Bootrec - RebuildBCD - Goes off searching, comes back with 1> C:windows, I type Y to add it but it comes back with an error "The requested system device can not be found"

I also tried BCDboot c:\windows\ /s c: /l en-us - said it was successful but still didnt fix the boot problem.

So i am not sure if I am running into a 32 bit vs 64 bit issue or if i need to find a way to unlock my drive so the refresh will work?? Or...?????

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!!

This is on an Acer Aspire V3-551

Regards,
Darren Vaillant

Let's see what we can find...

  Check Windows System files integrity
open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
type the following command and press Enter:
sfc /scannow
Note: This may take some time to finish.if it doesn't say "No integrity violations found" them do this:
In the command prompt window, type or Copy & Paste the following:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"

Close the command prompt.
Attach to your post the sfcdetails.txt file that was just placed on your Desktop

Hi -
I'm not getting Windows Update to run. HP p6240f, Windows 7, 64-bit OS
When I go to shutdown, the shutdown button has an orange shield that indicates it wants to update.
If I go to Windows Update and and say "Check for Updates", it tells me to Install new Windows Update software. I press Install Now and get "windows could not search for new updates. Error found Code 8024DFFE Windows Update encountered an unknown error". When I press "Get Help with this error", I select Windows Update Troubleshooter, which opens a Diagnostics Troubleshooting Wizard, which opens "Window Update, find and fix problems with Windows Update", which runs a repeating cycle of Detecting problems, collecting files, checking registry, Resolving problems .... over and over until it finishes eventually saying that it was not able to fix all the problems. In particular is a new "Windows Update error 0x80070490(2014-08-29-T-09_02_42P)". I attach the picture. I've done this a bunch of times, including rebooting to see if that matters.

This happened a week ago and the same thing happened as in the preceding paragraph, except that afterward - even though it gave all the same error codes - the Windows Update successfully ran.

I found a suggestion on a MS Windows site to run (in an administrator's Dos window) sfc /SCANNOW, which takes a long time to run and I did so and it found nothing and still the problem exists.

But then I came across ur post and realized that I have a similar configuration as you. I also uses comodo firewall and avast antivirus. This led me to think that either one of them is the problem. No-one replied to this post and so the problem was never fixed.
(The updates continued to fail downloading or installing)
I upgraded to Windows 10 Home and thankfully didn't need to have the updates installed to upgrade.

Back in April this year I downloaded two important updates:

1) Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 x64-based Systems (KB3023222)

2) Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 x64-based Systems (KB3032663)

However during the installation I encountered Error Code: 80073712
I tryed the installation again without anything else open and still the same result
I tryed the installation again having restarted and still the same result
I tryed the installation again after running the DISM Tool and still the same result

Yesterday (17/7/15) I tryed to download another important update:

1) Security Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3004365)

However during the download I encountered Error Code: 800F081F
I tryed everything that I tryed previously and still the same result

I searched around and both of these error codes apparently mean that a file needed by Windows Update is either damaged or missing

I thought I might as-well start a thread about it on these forums as not being able to download/install security updates isn't a good thing

Windows was unable to create a required installation folder. Please reconfigure your boot.wim to use the flag 9 settings for the first image and restart your installation. Error Code: 0x803002f

Any help greatly appreciated....

You may need to attempt SFC up to 3 times to repair damaged System Files. But first disinfect per Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7. If there is any problem go with the bootable scans in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start as the OS may be in the death grip of infection.

Then SFC may run better from the Win7 installation media or System Repair Disk Command Line: SFC /SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.

If these fail then you can try the Repair Install after establishing a Clean Boot per Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

But you may be better off copying out your files to quarantine to follow these same steps for a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which compiles everything that works best in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here.

First of all try to check if ALT+F10 at boot take you to windows recovery and you can reach command prompt from there:troubleshoot-advanced options- command prompt (if this works, go to point 4, if not point 1)1. create a vanilla Windows 8.1 installation media from this link:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media2. Once you boot using the Windows installation disc, on the Windows 8.x installation window, click on Repair your computer.3. Click on Troubleshoot and in the Advanced options. First thing you may try is the Automatic Repair.4. If that does not help, then select Command Prompt. Enter the following four commands into the prompt.bootrec /fixmbrbootrec /fixbootbootrec /scanosbootrec /rebuildbcdOnce the command completes, restart the computer.

Hey guys, I'm having a bit of a problem with my Windows 8. I'm currently running Windows 8 32-Bit, everything went well until this morning. I turned it on, and right before the log-on screen it started flashing purple. That's it, I couldn't do anything else, just watch the screen flash purple.

I have ran into this problem a while back and managed to fix it by using the Windows Setup and using the System Restore option but now for some reason I have no clue on how to Boot from a USB/CD.. it's not working.

I have a Compaq PC so it's a bit complicated to boot from devices. Anyways, if you guys could help me out a bit in a way that would be great!

You have to get into your BIOS and set up booting from the install disk or USB disk. Unfortunately, MS in it's wisdom has allowed some OEMS access to the BIOS only through the OS, so if this is what you have your are F'd. But you can try shutting it off and then restarting, hitting F10 or F2 or ESC and maybe one of those will get you in. Just keep Hitting F Keys, one of them, Usually F12 is a Boot Choice Menu.

Hi, hoping someone can assist.
When trying to play a video file (mpeg, wmv etc) in mediaplayer9 (on XPpro) we can hear audio but there is no video playing - only a purple blue square in the player screen. Have also tried in Real and Quicktime but with same result. The same video files will play fine in a various video software creation packages (arcsoft, nero etc) and also on another p/c.
Any suggestions? Have reloaded MP9 but same result. Is this a codec problem? or something else??

Any help much appreciated

Thanx

A:windows mediaplayer9 purple screen

I would think that it would be a codec problem, but you say that you can view it in the video editors. I would suggest downloading the specific codec it needs (instead of getting a package that has all the codecs which might lead to trouble). You can identify which codec you need by using a program called GSpot. Just use this program to analyze the video file and it should tell you what video/audio codec is required and whether it's installed already.
