A: systems configuration error code purple

When exactly do you get the message? Is it before Windows starts to boot? How does the message appear? Is it white lettering on a black background?

Does the machine boot? If so, how (What do you have to do after you see the message to get it to boot)?

I would like to say hello to everybody here. I have a problem. My problem is the nasty dredful Code Purple Configuration Error for HP. I have been working on a HP Pavilian mini tower, and I ended up having to destructive restore it. I then restart the tower, and I get this Config Error code Purple. I don't mess with HP very much (I compac/HP) I have also did my research on the problem, and I know its got a tatoo on the mother board(haven't added any hardware, and the reason for the restore everytime I tried to logon, it would say saving settings and restart) Of course this computer hasn't came with a restore disk, its on a partition of its own. I know their was a lawsuit over HP sending restore disk, and I also know I need to put the hardrive in a different tower and delete a bin file. Here's the problem. I have been fighting with hp over this restore disk and wanting me to pay for tech support. I feel I shouldn't pay for tech support because this problem was caused by them. My question is there away to fix this easier than the other ways shown on this forum. I never have hook up a hp hard drive to a different tower(which I don't think will post any problems, but then when deleting bin files or even locating these file. I am not too comfortable with doing. Will someone either let me know a easy way to fix this or instruct me in which is the best way and the step to fix it. Sorry for acting like a dumby, but i am not trying to mess up this HP comp... Read more

I'm guessing nobody wants to touch this with a 10ft. pole. I still have the same problem with this HP, and I really don't know what will work to fix this, and if there is a way to do it easier. I have read alot about this subject, but really can't find the correct way to get this up and running. If someone could help that would be great.

I have done everything i possibly can that i know of using the internet (F10, F5 F8 etc), i even called and got no help except more it will cost you $60 to get a number and i asked what is the number for where? No answer Last week, the computer no longer got past the microsoft logo (note no discs of any kind came with the computer, just it the mouse and the keyboardy from Best Buy) and no there isn't extra warranty on it. Ok i did system recovery, didn't work, system restor to last point it was working didn't work. Now it has obviosuly recognized i did a recovery so it goes to the logo screen and then the white box "Configuration Number Error)" comes up. Tells me to call HP to obtain it and the story goes on. Is there any backdoor tricks to obtain the config number, or of any fixes you know.I was wondering if it was a complete hard drive fail.  Any help is grealty appreciated! Thanks,Rosemary

I have been looking all over the net to find out what this problem is, but alas, nobody has been able to identify it. Basically, my computer had a blue screen that flashes with the message HP Invent, that goes by rather quickly, followed by a black screen with safe mode options et al. When attempting a recovery I got the code purple error. I have read several people mention a motherboard issue that is not 'tatooed' correctly. But this motherboard is the original that came with my PC in 2003! There have been no upgrades in at least four years. The only new addition has been a Sony monitor recently. Please can someone tell me what this Code Purple error is, and how to resolve it. Time and assistance will be gratefully received.

I'm working on a HP computer running XP Pro. When the computer would try to boot up to Windows an error message would appear stating that there was a configuration error and to contact the manufacturer. Then in paranthesis (Code Purple).

Unless corrected, this error will prevent your PC from operating properly. Turn off your PC by pressing and holding the Power button. After a few seconds your PC will automatically turn off. I just recently ran a System Recovery on my Windows XP Home Edition SP3 computer and after the recovery is done I restarted the system and then this message shows up and I'm stuck here.

I don't have any disc that came with the computer because that was a very long time ago already. I tried to download the "Windows XP Home Edition Set Up Disk for Floppy Boot Installation" from Microsoft but I can't run the ff:

Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Home Edition SP1
Windows XP Home Edition SP2

I can't create the Set Up Disk For Home Edition, SP1, and SP2 because this computer I'm using right now is a 64 bit and no floppy disk drive. That's why I downloaded this instead:
Windows XP Service Pack 3 - ISO-9660 CD Image File

I burned it to a DVD ROM but I don't know what to do next. After burning I reinserted the disc to this computer and the autorun activated. Then I inserted the disc to my Windows XP which has "System Configuration Error" and tried to reboot it but theres no autoplay or anything the computer still goes through the "System Configuration Error" message and I don't know how to access the set up disc. What should I do? Help please..

A virus corrupted my system yesterday and I decided to do a full recovery from the partition. This is an HP, and of course it was afflicted with the infamous "Code Purple" error upon recovery. I have no real way to fix this on my own, so I'm thinking about just installing a new OS. I wanted to upgrade to windows 7 anyway.

So, will installing Windows 7 onto this system (which was previously running Vista, but it's been reformatted so that won't matter) fix the code purple error? I've seen some places recommending this way to fix it. Just wondering if anyone knows for sure if the new OS will give me any issues because of this error.

A:Will Installing Windows 7 Fix "Code Purple" Error?

I don't think it give an error if you run a clean install of any OS (Operating System). All you have to backup your data's in other drive (in Same Hard Disk) or different external Hard Disk.

Than boot with your Windows 7
1. It will ask you to boot from CD or DVD press any key... (press any key)
2. It will load windows 7 in your RAM memory.
3. Accept the licensing aggreement.
4. Select the partition in which you want to install Win 7.
5. Click on Format.
6. Click on Yes to confirm formatting (It will give a warning that it will delete all the data's and contents in the partition.)
7. Automatically it will format and copy the system files into your Hard Disk.
8. Enter the key, click next
9. Enter the system name, click next
10. Enter username and password, click next
11. Select express or custom installtion, click next
12. Automatically system will restart.
13. Login with the username and password provided.

That's it. Am sure you won't get any "Code Purple" error.

A:Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems(Error code 80242016)

It seems like you have a software preventing Windows from shutting down properly.
Follow this tutorial and (you can do it in safe-mode as well) in-order to achieve a clean startup,
in-order for the changes to take place you need to restart the PC after completing,
once booted wait a couple of minutes for the OS to boot-up completely and shutdown Windows normally.
If that does it great, if not report back.

A:Code Purple (hp) help

Code Purple error results when you try to install a Compaq/HP tattooed OS onto a non-tattooed motherboard.
This tattoo can go missing if your computer has been in a shop and had its motherboard replaced with a non-Compaq/Hp tattooed motherboard. To repair this, you will have to get the motherboard re-tattooed by Compaq/HP in order to reinstall the Compaq/HP tattooed OS install disk that came with the computer.
An alternative to doing this is to purchase a retail copy of the Windows OS, such as buying a retail copy of Windows 7. These retail copies of the OS will install on any brand of computer and do not require a tattoo to be present.

The way the anti-piracy mechanism seems to work is to loop in the check if the comparison between the motherboard BIOS string (returned by hpdmi.exe) and the expected value fails. By looping in the error message, the check effectively puts the brakes on Syscheck, so the final configuration of XP never completes and you don’t get to a functional Windows desktop. Since the loop is in, you can bypass the problem by just removing the invocation of the Python script. In other words, delete the line

Anyone ever hear of "Windows Configuration Error : Code Purple". Confused the hell out of me. This was on an OEM version of Windows XP, occured out of the box on the windows splash screen even before hitting the "out of box experience" to config XP for the first time. rebooted w/o error came right to the OOBE but im just curious what exactly this is. any help for the completely 'befuddled'. Could not find any reference through microsoft, google, or other tech forums.

A:Code Purple?

for future reference if anyone needs to know : it looks like the OEM software may cause this in most cases if it is not active in your start up list . why it occured out of the box is still odd but if it occurs out of the blue (or purple heheheheh....sigh) then try enabling any bundled OEM software if you can get into msconfig from safemode.

had another computer with an hp recovery problem. Both in partial and full recovery (f10) I got the code purple error. On an old thread I found that the best idea was to eliminate or modify the cfgchk.bat file I tried both the first by deleting it. It did a partial help but did not complete the recovery. I then removed the hard drive and installed it on another xp system. I was able to see the configcheck folder in F:\hp\bin\configcheck\cfgchk.bat file. I went back to c: and did a run cmd to open the dos box. I tried to go to the F: drive to modify the batch file but I couldn't get to it. I went back to the f drive and copied the file to the c drive. I went back in to the cmd module and ran edit.I was able to find the batch file this time and deleted the line pylon c:\hp\bin\configcheck\ .I then copied the file back to the F: drive and pasted it to replace the original. I closed things down and removed the hard drive back to the HP. I restarted it and lo and behold it was working. Even then running it the rest of the recovery seemed touch and go. They really want to control things and make it difficult to recover from a crash. I think it is one system I will not be purchasing.

A:code Purple

Well i've read alot about this on various forums and nothing seemed to work for everyone, but all the forums i went to failed to say that HP supports code purple free now. I'm not sure when this started, but i was having some start-up problems with my win vista home basic 32bit and i thought i might have to do a recovery to fix it so I called hp support (1800-474-6889) and they said even if my warranty was expired they "in most cases" fix code purple free now. I guess it takes about 15 days. I also went on to ask about recovery disk (which don't come with most computers now) and they said that for the cost of shipping you can have them mailed to you in days for about $18 dollars. i wonder if anyone has had hp fix this free or if this worked for anyone or maybe they were feeding me a line?

This is the error message that my computer had:
Your PC/Device needs to be repaired
The Boot Configuration Data for your PC is missing or contains errors
Error code: 0xc0000185
You'll need to use recovery tools. If you dont have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer.
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings"
I made a recovery drive and set the UEFI to a USB boot, and when I tried to boot it with a blank USB it didnt recognize it, but when I used the recovery usb it recognized it. I did that to check and see if it actually recognized the recovery data.
Now when I boot it just has the Lenovo screen and the swirling dots. it's been doing this for about a half hour. Is this normal or is there an issued with the hatdware?

A:Boot Configuration Data is missing, Error Code 0xc0000185

The Error code: 0xc0000185 is an I/O error.
This can be a hardware problem or a software problem.
So the first thing to do is to run diagnostics on the hard drive ( )

If you have difficulties booting to the disk/drive, post back and we'll see about changing some settings in the UEFI to allow the boot.
I'm working on a drive that will do this for you, but it's still in the testing phase (and it's a 700+ mB download).
If the drive is dead/dying, you may have problems trying to recover your data.
Do you have a recent backup?  If not, post back for suggestions on how to best backup your information.
FYI - if it is dying, then it's best not to use the drive at all until you've done the backup.
If the drive does die fully, then data recovery gets very expensive (up to $2000 (US)) if it's even possible.

Windows 7 x64 system installed last week. All has gone well until a while ago...Adobe Acrobat downloaded an update and installed it, then asked to restart the machine.

At restart Windows quit and offered to restart normally or to repair itself. I let it try to repair itself, but it repeatedly failed, with the error:

*Boot configuration is corrupt.
Result: Failed. Error code=0x490*

In addition, I noticed that windows apparently is not finding the boot drive...looking at the repair log I saw:

System Disk=\Device\Harddisk\Windows directory-\\?\GLOBAL ROOT\Device\Harddisk1\Partition2\Windows

Windows appears to be looking at the wrong's installed on a new drive with only one partition. Using the Command Prompt option in the repair window, I could not access the *real* drive "C" (Drive 0), only Drive 1, which has two partitions for D and E.

Hiren's Boot CD running NTFS4DOS does not see drive 0 at all and also shows Drive 1, Partition 1 as drive C. Hiren's mini-WinXP shows a drive C designated as "System Reserved" - and shows Drive 1 as drives D and E on its partitions 1 and 2 respectively.

Mini-WinXP shows the otherwise elusive disk 0 as disk F.

I could sure use some ideas for a fix...I didn't have many to begin with and by now I'm down to none! Thanks in advance, if anyone can help.

Can someone share the commands to get rid of a code purple? I have a hp pavilion a824 using XP Home..

A:code purple Windows XP

I believe I`m right in thinking that a code purple occurs when either the mobo is faulty or the original hardware has had some other hardware added to it that doesn`t match and mainly occurs on HP and Compaq computers.

The OEM mobo has what they call a `tattoo` embedded on it so that on a re-install, you can only use the original mobo and hardware that was attached at the time of purchase and any major move away from that configuration, will flag up an error.

I`ve read that you can bypass the `code purple` by changing a particular file. The file is called and can be found here ... c:\hp\bin\configcheck\ and you change it to run.p and reboot. (You may have to enable showing of hidden & system files)

Another way would be to remove any hardware added since it`s birth and revert back to the original configuration, then try running a repair or re-install using the recovery disk/s that came with it.

I haven`t had personal experience with this problem so I`m happy to be put right if anyone has any other suggestions.

As an HP Phone tech, I get this error code call in a few times a month. The solution is this.....Send it in for a new system. We were told that no troubleshooting is required. In or out of warrenty, code purple is a new system. If you don't want to wait for the new system, here's a fix for it......

What in the world is “Error Code Purple,” ? A quick search on the net revealed that this was a booby trap placed in computers in which a “tattoo” or numerical signature of the motherboard and hardware configuration is created at the factory and encoded into the restore disks on a particular computer. When you re-install your system, it checks to make sure the system has not been modified. If you have modified your system, the “tattoo” generated by the checking program will be different than the original, and the system will not boot.

The underlying problem is that there is a .bat file that calls a python script to check the tattoo upon boot up.

If you remove that call, then there is no check and the machine boots up just fine.

The file is:

The solution is to get a boot disk that will allow you to edit the hard drive and clear that file. I just deleted everything in cfgchk.bat and left an empty file with that name. Rebooted the system and bypassed the error code.

My computer had issues after I had done recovery back to factory settings. I wanted to recover to that point because I had dowloaded many different programs recently and I could not figure out exactly was causing issues on my computer. It would restart itself, and different messages would pop up, the last being: IRQ not less but equal(atleast, this is how I remember it).

But after backing up my files on cd's, dvd's and usb, I set it back to factory settings, and I would get the : configuration error, code purple.

I tried to perform system recovery again, and what ever option I could find I would try, but no good. I then tried using my Vista recovery cds, and I would get : "This PC is not supported by the System Recovey Discs. You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these disks. "

The only way I was able to get my computer running again is that I luckily had recently copied Windows 7 to a dvd (my original OS was Vista), the windows 7 I had gotten as a free educational download from my college.
So I just popped it in and let it run on its own. But if this is the only way to get out of code purple(as was my experience) this sucks, because not everyone has an OS disk available. And remember, my Vista recovery disks were not working.

My computer is working, I'm so happy now .

2.- When you get the error use a MiniPe CD or enter a BootCD to Load Dos or some Environment with ntfs Support, and some app to edit textfiles and boot into that (or power down the machine and remove HDD and use a USB adapter to hook into a working machine)

3.- Get into C:\hp\bin\CheckDMI folder

4.- Open CheckDMI.cmd File with a textfile editing app

5.- Look for the below code:

if not exist c:\hp\support\DMIinfo.ini (
echo "Cannot locate DMIinfo.ini. No DMI validation was performed." >%CodePurpleLog%
goto mismatch
copy c:\hp\support\DMIinfo.ini /y /v >NUL
c:\hp\bin\cPC_rDMI.exe /rall >DMIofUUT.ini
6.- Change 'mismatch' to 'cleanup'

if not exist c:\hp\support\DMIinfo.ini (
echo "Cannot locate DMIinfo.ini. No DMI validation was performed." >%CodePurpleLog%
goto cleanup
copy c:\hp\support\DMIinfo.ini /y /v >NUL
c:\hp\bin\cPC_rDMI.exe /rall >DMIofUUT.ini

7.- Extra step* The code goes on to call another file that checks DMI as well:

Hi All.

I have just performed a recovery on a Compaq Presario S5500UK.

Recovery went well, and then it asked me to reboot.

However, when it starts windows, I get the following message and there is nothing I can do other than reboot and keep getitng it.

The message is:

Your system has detected a configuration error. Please report this error to Customer Care using the phone number found in the Warranty and Support Guide that came with your PC. Unless corrected, this error will prevent your PC from operating properly. Turn off your PC by pressing and holding the Power button. After a few seconds your PC will automatically turn off. (Code Purple)

How can I get around this so the PC is usable?

Many thanks,

Could not find any reference through microsoft, google, or other tech forums.

maybe i should "play" with my hp m7060n desktop with windows xp,since it's been fix few days ago, i am getting "screwed" again by what i did this morning, here the story, i replaced psu and motherboard about 4 days ago, i had noticed that my media edition was not in version 2005, instead it was in 2002, so i used the hd recovery disc(2005) try to have my version 2005 back, unfortunately that's not as simple as i thought, after restart the computer, i got CODE PURPLE error, and the unit already out of warranty. Search on the net and this forum, found this thread, , remove hd to other system and delete this C:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck\cfgchk.bat, the purple code error will disappear and windows will boot in normal? can someone please confirm this will work??? Also, if i just put in windows xp disc into the tray and start the computer, will my computer boots in normal???thanks in advance

So I have read the threads on Code Purple restart fixes etc. but I don't know exactly how to apply that to my current situation.

I was attempting to fix my parents' computer to factory settings and I was successful in reformatting however I did recieve the code purple message upon restart. Their computer, a Compaq 55400NX, came with a recovery CD but when I insert it I don't really get anything different nor can I receve a new recovery page. See, when I press R to get to the recovery screen I am prompted with a system restore, not any of these special menus where I can access the files or anything like that. And now, after trying various options through the F8 menu, I only recieve an 'inproper/ incomplete setup' notice, not even a code purple!

Needless to say, I feel very out of my league. HELP!!!

A:Compaq Recovery Issues- Code Purple + ...? PLEASE HELP!!!

The Configuration error : Code Purple is usually a corrupt motherboard, as OEMs will place identification on the motherboard to verify the CD belongs to it and if it doesn't match you will get this error. Usually on Compaq or HP PCs.

Try inserting the CD, then restarting and upon restart hitting Esc - do you get any bootup options? If you can see a "boot from" menu then choose your CD and continue the format and factory restore.

If not, clear the CMOS ("reset the CMOS" or "load default values") through the BIOS and then retry again.

Unfortunately I didn't buy extended warranty so when my motherboard died I had to fix it.

I researched the Code P fixes and it looks like this one will work but I have been unable to

find the commands or a way to open and edit the file which I was able to locate.

First I couldn't find this file; (below) so I went on to a more recent try listed below ====

remove the line "python c:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck\"
from.............. {drive}:\hp\bin\ConfigCheck\cfgchk.bat as you suggested!
I put the HDD back in the computer & it booted past the CODE PURPLE ERROR.

Found this file but can't open it to edit it;
1. Once the error box comes up press shift and F-10 to get a command line. WORKED
gives you c:\windows\support32>

2. Navigate to the following folder. WAS ABLE TO LIST FILES IN FOLDER using dir command
1 C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\

3. Enter the following command.
1 checkdmi.cmd

I can not get it to open this file and when I enter checkdmi.cmd ; response is not recognized

When I type in C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\checkdmi.cmd , I get stopped by another box that just has an OK
box and the close X in the upper right hand corner, no message, clicking on either one gives you a
c:\hp\bin\CheckDMI> prompt which lasts for a few seconds then the computer is shutdown.

I was able to type in C:\hp\bin\checkdmi\exclude.txt which opened this file in notepad.

I find on the Startup Tab of Systems Configuration Utility that there are four programs listed that are no longer on my computer and that were viruses, that's why they are not on my computer any more. But they are still listed on the Startup tab on Systems Configuration Utility. Is there a way to get them off the Startup tab on Sys. Con. Utility? Why would Sys. Con. Utility list programs not on the computer anyhow? These were viruses so there is a little concern but more then that the computer still recommends to have them on at startup? Any ideas?
I'm pretty sure that they are not on the computer any more but I kind of don't even want them listed sense they were viruses. Please let me know if you know how to remove them from this registry. Thank you.

A better and safer approach would be to submit a HJT log to make sure they are not still there, at least I'd feel better about recommending any registry changes knowing for sure that you have an uninfected machine, John.

A:Will new Windows Install Fix "Code Purple"?

Posts 1 and 8 in this thread talk about fixes that you could do yourself. You could also email HP tech support for advice.

This seems to be an error involving matching a particular motherboard to a particular Recovery partition or disk, so I think that installing an OS would not be affected. What other issues you may have with a different OS are difficult to predict. Usually there are few problems when using Windows 7 on a computer that originally ran Vista.

Hello all,

I've been fixing up a laptop for a laptop that has had one problem after another. I'm working with an ASUS G51VX.

It was riddled with spyware and adware. After cleaning it was still pretty slow, found out it had a failing HDD. Replaced the HDD and still slow. I pretty much have it at a tollerable start up time but I cannot get it to complete the last of it updates (see title)

I've run SURT and it installed one hotfix, KB947821. Assuming that fixed it I ran the update again and still failed.

SFC says it found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Attached is the log (I only zipped CBS.log because the folder itself is 15GB).

The drive does not function,
Nor does it feature in the list of available drives in Windows Explorer.
Further investigation through;

A double click on the icon opens the window, specific to this drive, at the 'General' tab with the message in the Status mini-window reading as follows:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

It goes without saying that the 'Troubleshoot' function is about as much use as a chocolate teapot!

I have tried uninstalling, rolling back drivers, re-installing drivers all to no avail.

I have read and digested all the historical problems with this type of drive but they are all about different manifestations to this problem.

Can anyone help please?

An extremely critical vulnerability affecting most Linux distributions gives attackers the ability to execute malicious code on servers used to deliver e-mail, host webpages, and carry out other vital functions.
The vulnerability in the GNU C Library (glibc) represents a major Internet threat, in some ways comparable to the Heartbleed and Shellshock bugs that came to light last year. The bug, which is being dubbed "Ghost" by some researchers, has the common vulnerability and exposures designation of CVE-2015-0235. While a patch was issued two years ago, most Linux versions used in production systems remain unprotected at the moment. What's more, patching systems requires core functions or the entire affected server to be rebooted, a requirement that may cause some systems to remain vulnerable for some time to come.
The buffer overflow flaw resides in __nss_hostname_digits_dots(), a glibc function that's invoked by the gethostbyname() and gethostbyname2() function calls. A remote attacker able to call either of these functions could exploit the flaw to execute arbitrary code with the permissions of the user running the application. In a blog post published Tuesday, researchers from security firm Qualys said they were able to write proof-of-concept exploit code that carried out a full-fledged remote code execution attack against the Exim mail server. The exploit bypassed all existing exploit protections available on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems, including address space... Read more

With all of the touting of how bulletproof Linux is, I figured it would be just a matter of time before this would be proven to be wrong, and why I run antivirus software of my main Linux Mint 17.1 desktop & the notebook that my wife uses that runs the same OS.
Before anyone reads this article and says this only matters to 1 to 2% of users, that is a very large untruth, much larger than many realizes. It doesn't matter what OS one runs at home, if one is conducting business on the Internet, there's a very high chance that we're doing this on Linux servers, from emailing, banking, making transactions & general Web browsing. Even many of our local ISP's & other utilities are powered by Linux servers, as well as the very component that provides us Internet access, the router we use, be it a $20 or $300 one, if not flashed with custom firmware.
There is not a single supercomputer in the top 20 that is Windows powered, and over half runs Linux.
When we shop, we use Linux to conduct the transaction, and if a 3rd party payment provider is used, then usually that's also done through Linux. This is a big deal.
While there's many things the open source community can fix, much faster than Microsoft can provide, there's others that's elusive, and there's also those in the community, just as any other, whom are dishonest & doesn't want a fix. That's part of why these bugs have just been uncovered, some were probably ... Read more

Not sure if this is really an OS issue or my video card or what. In the middle of playing WOW a few days ago, my husband's monitor went haywire with odd shapes and then displayed a message about nv4_disp caused an error and then it shut down. We then tried rebooting and it only got to the welcome blue screen and froze there with the username and password box distorted. It also displays all of the boot-up screen text in purple which is weird - normally white.

It boots up in safe mode, so I booted up and rolled back to the last restore point, rebooted in normal mode and then updated the video card driver. It worked fine for me while I watched a movie clip and some other things, then my husband booted up the next day and as soon as he got in to WOW it crashed again with the same error.

I decided since it had been a while, and we have a newer HD now, I removed the IDE drive that windows was on, and installed it on one of the newer SATA drives which is much bigger. I am still in the process of reinstalling windows but right off the bat we still have the purple text so I know the problem is not resolved. Ay suggestions?

When I click on "Advanced Settings" I get "There was an error opening the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security snap-in" followed by it "failed to load. Restart the Windows Firewall service on the computer you are managing. Error code 0x6D9."

I scanned the computer using both Avast and Microsoft Safety Scanner (full scan and took over 2 hours) - no infections or issues found

For some reason my Windows 7 Home Premium (32bit) PC is now refusing to operate the DVD ROM and DVD RW Drives. A suspect the latest update to iTunes as they were working fine till the automatic install for that failed. Had to do it manually & that went with some hiccoughs, needing to "Retry" to get it to complete successfully.

The problem is when I try and use a DVD drive you hear it react to the disc, but Autoplay does not run.

Checking in the Device Manager on the General Tab, there is the following message (for both drives)
<< Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19) >>

I checked this on the Internet and tried as suggested going to Device manager and Uninstalling both drives. Restarting my PC and letting the "Found New Hardware" re-install them.

Sadly this failed...

I then checked whether the driver software for the Device was up to date. It reported that the software for the device is up to date.

Next I ran the Troubleshooter and tried re-installing the driver software which it suggested might fix the problem .... only to be met with <<Device Driver Software not Successfully installed>>

No-one replied to this post and so the problem was never fixed.
(The updates continued to fail downloading or installing)
I upgraded to Windows 10 Home and thankfully didn't need to have the updates installed to upgrade.

Back in April this year I downloaded two important updates:

1) Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 x64-based Systems (KB3023222)

2) Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 and 4.5.2 on Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 x64-based Systems (KB3032663)

However during the installation I encountered Error Code: 80073712
I tryed the installation again without anything else open and still the same result
I tryed the installation again having restarted and still the same result
I tryed the installation again after running the DISM Tool and still the same result

Yesterday (17/7/15) I tryed to download another important update:

1) Security Update for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB3004365)

However during the download I encountered Error Code: 800F081F
I tryed everything that I tryed previously and still the same result

I searched around and both of these error codes apparently mean that a file needed by Windows Update is either damaged or missing

I thought I might as-well start a thread about it on these forums as not being able to download/install security updates isn't a good thing

This is a desktop PC with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed. I'm trying to repair with the disk it was installed with originally. The reason for attempting the repair is that the System File Checker says there are files that it could not repair when I ran it. I ran it originally because I couldn't install or uninstall anything. I would get an error: This application was unable to start correctly. With error message (0xC0000006)

Now trying to repair Windows 7 with the upgrade option I get:
Windows was unable to create a required installation folder. Please reconfigure your boot.wim to use the flag 9 settings for the first image and restart your installation. Error Code: 0x803002f

Any help greatly appreciated....

A:Started with error code 0xC0000006 and now I have Error Code: 0x803002

You may need to attempt SFC up to 3 times to repair damaged System Files. But first disinfect per Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7. If there is any problem go with the bootable scans in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start as the OS may be in the death grip of infection.

Then SFC may run better from the Win7 installation media or System Repair Disk Command Line: SFC /SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot.

If these fail then you can try the Repair Install after establishing a Clean Boot per Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7.

But you may be better off copying out your files to quarantine to follow these same steps for a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which compiles everything that works best in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here.

First of all try to check if ALT+F10 at boot take you to windows recovery and you can reach command prompt from there:troubleshoot-advanced options- command prompt (if this works, go to point 4, if not point 1)1. create a vanilla Windows 8.1 installation media from this link: Once you boot using the Windows installation disc, on the Windows 8.x installation window, click on Repair your computer.3. Click on Troubleshoot and in the Advanced options. First thing you may try is the Automatic Repair.4. If that does not help, then select Command Prompt. Enter the following four commands into the prompt.bootrec /fixmbrbootrec /fixbootbootrec /scanosbootrec /rebuildbcdOnce the command completes, restart the computer.

Hi All,
I'm new here and I think I messed up the post that I made. I had meant to say that all of a sudden I can't use windows installer service I get error code 8007641 or error code 641. I'm unsure why I'm not able to use windows installer anymore and I'm not able to get valuable updates from windows without it. Has anyone else ever had this problem and if so, were they able to come up with a solution? Thank you. This is my first day on the site and unsure how to get around on it, but it seems like it's an exciting site and I'm looking forward to using it.

I have a HP 522c AMD Athlon 2000+, running windows xp. There is an integrated video card that went bad. So in installed an AGP video card it is a 3D Prophet 4000XT 32 MB. Now that the card is installed when I have it activated there is a code 12 on one of the pci to pci bridges so that my network card in the other pci slots will not work. I have tried the network card on other computers and it works fine, i have also tried the video card and it works fine. I also tried other items in the pci slots while the agp card is in(modem, sound card) and i still recieve the same error. The card works when a pci bridge is enabled but only with the VGAsave driver and with very low quality. When i check the device manager while both pci to pci bridges are enabled, when i can only run the VGAsave driver, it says the there is a conflict under the I/O range with the VGAsave and an Pci to Pci bridge. Any windows updates just delets the pci to pci bridge listed in the device manager. And i have tried all the drivers i could from AMD, HP, Hercules. Any help would be welcomed on how to fix this.

A:Code 12 in xp on a Pci to Pci bridge, Recieve a code 12 error with video card

your hp box is not only engineered by hp (who tend to focus on low assembly costs) but is an oem build, thus severely limiting your options. a suggested next step would be to attempt to poke around in the bios setup utility and/or to try out a wider variety of cards/slot configurations. good luck.

Hello,Some third party programs can affect the Windows Update service. If you are running any third party applications such as Spyblocker, Internet or web accelerators (programs designed to boost the speed of the Internet connection), security or anti-virus programs (Norton, McAfee, etc.), I recommend you temporarily disable or uninstall them and then try accessing Windows Update later. If the problem still happens, try the following steps:Rename the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder================================================1. Close all the open windows. 2. Click "Start", click "All programs", and click "Accessories". 3. Right-click "Command Prompt", and click "Run as administrator".4. In the "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type in "net stop WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was successfully stopped before we try to rename the folder. However, if it fails, please let me know before performing any further steps and include any error messages you may have received when it failed.
5. Click "Start", in the "Start Search" box, type in "%windir%" (without the quotes) and press Enter.6. In the opened folder, look for the folder named "SoftwareDistribution".7. Right-click on the folder, select "Rename" and type "SDold" (without the quotes) to rename this ... Read more

I am completely stumped by this problem. I will do my best to explain it and see what you fine folks can do.

I had an older bluetooth dongle, off-brand model, 2010-2011 year, that I installed on my new desktop computer. It worked, but sound quality on my Sony Dr-BT101 headset wasn't great. It worked well with my bluetooth-enabled phones and tablets, so I suspected the dongle. I bought a CSR8510 dongle, which came with a CSR Cambridge Radio Harmony software stack. I installed the software, and turned on the headset, paired it, but no sound came out of the headset. I went to Sound, saw no entries. Went to device managers and saw the parts in yellow. I tried to update the driver but all I got was Code 18 error and this weird message in the picture. I clicked on properties and saw this message.

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.

I am stumped. I've tried uninstalling, re-installing, installing other Bluetooth drivers, waving a magic wand, none of it has worked. I'm thinking it's a problem with the Registry, but I am not sure how to proceed.

Any ideas?

Hi guys, first time posting so apologies in advance if I do something illegal. As far as I can gather, I should be posting in the right forum. I've been having system stability problems for the last week or so. I think it might be because of a mass driver update across my system since nothing else seems to be the cause.

Basically, I updated some drivers bout a week ago and now the PC either hangs or auto-restart when I'm playing games. At first I thought it might be due to OC instability, so I reset my bios to default settings. Didn't quite work out completely as the system still exhibits the "sudden death" during gaming.

Have tried the steps in the sticky above on refreshing the page file. defragging etc. Problem still hasn't gone away. All rams have cleared 7 cycles of memtest at 2.65 volts and 2.6 volts without problems, though everything has been reset to stock already.

My system specs are as follows :
AMD 64X2 4200+
MSI K8N Neo 4 Platinum
2 x 512mb Kingston CH5 PC3200 DDR
2 x 512mb Mushkin Black Line BH5 DDR
Inno 6600GT 128mb
Creative Audugy ZS Platinum
BenQ 1640
Gigabyte CD-RW
Hitachi/IBM 80GB SATA II
Western Digital 240GB SATA HD
Verudium Vortex 430W

Am fairly sure its not a power issue and the core temp never exceeds 49 degrees even at full load. Its about 44/45 idle. Am guessing it might be the soundcard though... Anyone able to help?

Would be most grateful for any assistance and thanks in advance.

Hi Guys,
I have recently put Windows 2000 on a Hp OmniBook XE. Prior to that it had Windows 98. I have installed all the software I needed & the last piece of software I needed to install was Mcafee Anti-Virus. Everytime I try & run it, I get the following error 'The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation'. I have spent ages trying to find solutions for this error.
What I think the error may be, is that, it seems to think Mcafee is still installed on the Laptop & therefore won't install.

Hopefully it's something you guys have come across before & you can help me out.

I have been trying to connect to my cisco systems vpn now for the last few hours with no success. I have used the vpn easily over the last 2 years and am unsure what is different now. I get past the user authentication process, but the client appears to freeze when I reach the 'negotiating security policies' step. Instead of securing the communications channel it simply says 'negotiating security policies' for as long as I leave it. Turning my firewall off completely has no effect and I have made sure the software is 100% up to date. Also if I try to cancel the connection the client say it is disconnecting but doesn't do anything except say disconnecting instead of negotiating security policies. It is not a password issues as I get past the authentication stage. Also even more curious after trying to connect to the VPN I can no longer access the internet from my computer. All internet related programs disconnect and I cannot display web pages. Once I restart the computer the problem is rectified however even renewing my IP doesnt fix the problem before restart. I am connecting from a dynamic IP but I have connected with this set up before. I'm very confused as to the problem right now and your help would be much appreciated,

I have been trying to remove a trojan from my computer. Whatever the problem was, it kept causing a "System Shutdown" countdown screen to pop up on my desktop. It stated something about the corrupted file being C:\Windows\system32\services.exe. This pop up would count down from 1 minute until it restarts the computer. While the countdown was running, a bogus antivirus program would pop up an start searching for infections.

I later learned that I was able to press CTRL ALT DEL in order to pull up the Task Manager, close the antivirus program and stop the countdown. Afer doing this I decided to delete the file services.exe in the C:\Windows\system32 file. Upon deleting the file I restarted my computer and now I'm not able to do ANYTHING.

I press F8 in order to choose boot options but no option works. I've chosen Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode With Command Propmt, Enable Boot Logging, Last Known Good Configuration, Directory Services Restore Mode, Debugging Mode, Start Windows Normally. Every Safe Mode option brings up a black screen with safe mode in all 4 coners, but I can't do anything else. If I choose Start Windows Normally, the Windows logo comes up but after that just a black screen with the mouse arrow.

Is there anything that I can do to pull up the msconfig screen? What am I supposed to do...Please Help!!

Error Code C00D1199 (aka: code 80040265) is an error message that can be displayed in several different ways and can be worded different as well, but it all refers to this error message originally posted as message 80040265.

There were a few posts on here about them, but many of the threads seemed to be closed. I just noticed that I have gone through all of the motions and really tried, but no pickle here....well, there might be a pickle, but it is the kind of pickle you get stuck in and is not cool whatsoever.

Here is what I have done:

1. Made sure that the format was supported with windows media player. It was, as it is an .avi, so no problems there.

Here are the types that are compatible:
.au and .snd
.aif, .aifc, and .aiff
.mp3 and .m3u
.mpeg, .mpg, .m1v, .mp2, .mpa, .mpe, .mp2v, and .mpv2
.mid, .midi, and .rmi
.avi and .wav
.asf, .asx, .wax, .wm, .wma, .wmd, .wmp, .wmv, .wmx, .wpl, and .wvx
2. I made sure that other .avi's I have in my collection were working properly with the WMP (Windows Media Player). They were, just not the ones I was trying to fix, of course..

3. I made a sandwich and drank some Yoohoo.

4. Installed a sturdy set of codecs with DivX to ensure that that was not it. I know I had to do it before, but I recently cleaned and started my PC from scratch again, so the previous codecs were not there.

5.Made sure all of my audio devices and drivers were updated and installed properly-for the most part-which I ... Read more

• Start button changes its look to a more Windows 95 old look.

•Unable to get to Windows Updates page. When I click on Start-> Windows Update a page opens in IE and says "Page cannot be displayed"

•On first start up today, it loaded all the way to desktop background but desktop icons never appeared. Did a hard shut down and then icons appeared on next start up.

•IE, Firefox, do not open sometimes. Sometimes they open, sometimes they dont.

•Computer sometimes does not shut down and I must manual shut down holding down power button.

•Start up seems to take longer than it used to.

Lately, I've heard some people say that the Unix code is more secure than the Windows code and that the Windows code has many holes and bugs in it. Before, I always thought Unix systems (for example, Mac) were less likely to get infected by viruses only because they had a lower market share. However, I'm starting to wonder if the Unix code is really more secure than the Windows code. Is this true? Also, does the Windows code really have that many bugs and holes in it?

A:Are Unix systems more secure than Windows systems?

It is rather debatable, its harder to compare two completely different codes and say one is flawed and one is not.

Though Unix/Linux does appear to be a bit more secure, which is why Apple's OS X (their baby), is based on a unix-code.

I followed this tutorial to make my bootable Windows 7 USB.

I am getting this error: This tool can only be run on systems booted using PC/AT BIOS. This system was booted using EFI or some other firmware type.

Maybe this is my main problem my USB can not boot on my new Lenovo? I created thread here.

What I should do?
