A: Solved: My laptop dell inspiron 9300 winxp running extremelly slow!!!!

I've got a sick laptop ... hoping you can help. It's a four year old Dell Inspiron 9300 running XP/SP3. The infection is preventing me from accessing any Microsoft or anti-virus company web sites. Also, as the PC runs it eventually disables the Windows managed wireless network. Two other symptoms...
- When using Explorer the screen will flash and then the menus get blacked out.
- The sound card gets spontaneously disabled.

This all started happening during a period of time when I had no anti-virus software running. I've had the Firewall running on my router and the Windows XP Firewall running all along and I stay away from obvious problem websites (no porn ... really!). Now I can't get updated virus protection loaded to the machine. I was able to install Malwarebytes software but it couldn't update the definitions and it didn't find any problems.

I have an external drive I use for backups that I was concerned might be infected but I've scanned it using McAfee on another PC and it hasn't found anything. (Fortunately that machine isn't showing any signs of being sick, either.)

I've been preparing to do a full Windows restore if necessary, but that's a pain and I don't know if it'll even solve the problem.

I've run SDFix, ComboFix and RootRepeal and have the reports available.

Thanks!!

A:My dell inspiron 9300 tooo slow... Help!!

Hello, this is my first post here, i am a tech guy myself and i am stumped for once on something.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop with a 17" screen witch started to have lines on it.

1. I plugged it into an external LCD and it worked just fine.
2. I ordered a new LCD from ebay, i had to clip the LCD cable hinges to fit the new screen. (http://www.yall.net/Laptop-LCD-Screen-Repair/how-to-fit-the-video-cable-connector.html)
3. Once i plugged everything in, the screen would not turn on, neither would the old one.
4. Bought an LCD cable and inverter and i still can not get neither the old screen nor the new one to turn on. It works just fine with a external monitor. I have tried hitting Function and CRT/LCD button on the keyboard as well.
So i have 2 screens, 2 LCD cables (one clipped), 2 inverters. Nothing seems to work. On board video works with a monitor. I am out of options so i need some help.

Had a little...incident...with the laptop. It got dropped..pretty hard..drunk sibling...fight...dont wanna discuus it really...
Took it apart, like I did a couple months ago to replace the motherboard...the wireless card was/is loose, and the bluetooth card fell out. Tightened up the wireless card, but dont know where the bluetooth card goes?
I turned on the laptop before taking it apart after the "incedent" to see what worked, if anything. It started up fine, well, it sounded fine...but I couldnt see anything. Took a closer look with the lights off and could barely see the screen. Was real dark, but there. I do have some vertical lines running thru the screen, so thats getting replaced soon anyways.
So...where do I plug in the bluetooth card, and whats the deal with the monitor? Loose connection? Completely shot? What can I look for in terms of loose connections etc as I put this back together? Any other tips or help? Thanks a lot.

I just customised and purchased a new Dell Inspiron 9300, and I'd like to get any thoughts on it from anyone. From what I can gather, it seems like a good machine, but I would like some other opinions on it.

The specifications are:

- Inspiron 9300 Intel Pentium M Processor at 780
- 2.26GHZ, 2MB Cache, 533MHZ FSB
- Integrated Stereo Sound with Subwoofer
- Integrated 10/100 Fast Ethernet
- 17" UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife: 1920 X 1200
- Dell Wireless 350 Bluetooth Module
- Intel Pro/Wireless 2915 Dual Band 802.11A/B/G 54MBPS MiniPCI Wireless Card
- 2048 (2 X 1024MB) 533MHZ DDR2 SDRAM
- 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800
- 80GB Ultra ATA 7200RPM Performance Hard Drive
- Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive
- Internal 56K Modem
- 9-Cell 80WHR Lithium Ion Battery
- Additional 9-Cell 80WHR Lithium Ion Battery

For that, I paid $4,010.00 (Australian dollars). Also, on this laptop, does the display have the same clarity and brightness as what was on my Toshiba Satellite A70? The specification on the Toshiba Satellite A70 is: "WXGA TFT, Super Bright Technology", and has the really nice screen. I'm not sure whether the new laptop has that also. I wanted to change to Win7 Ultimate 32bit,so i did, everything worked out smoothly until i turned the laptop off and the next morning when i tried to start it up i got an error that read: Windows Failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer. 2. Choose your language settings, and then click next. 3. Click "repair your computer" If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance. Ive tried everything from reinstalling the os to booting from usb, and cd nothing helps i tried the startup repair, but that doesn't seem to help either. I also tried to find a restore point but it doesn't find any. Please Help!! Thank you, James A:[SOLVED] Dell Inspiron 9300 wont start up! I am glad I found you guys as I am having a major crisis. My 4 year old Dell Inspiron 9300 will not boot in either normal mode or safe mode. Earlier today, my laptop was running slow, so I had to shut it down restart it. When it started to boot, a blue STOP ERROR screen came up, with code 0X0000000A (0X00000000, 0X00000001, 0X00000002, 0X804F9D26). So I tried to restart it again, it went to the black screen where i could choose to start computer in safe mode. But somehow, no matter which mode i start my computer in, it ends up at the same blue death screen with the same information. Can someone tell me how to fix this. I have not installed any hardware or software. I run Windows XP with service pack 2. Thank you in advance!! A:Dell Inspiron 9300 won't boot Have you installed any software lately? Any hardware/software upgrades that may have caused this? You should try to boot using "Use the Last Known Good Configuration feature". The socket for my power supply is loose on my system board, so the A/C power keeps going on and off, thus causing my screen to blink every time. Its only getting worse and I'm waiting for the day that I don't have the ability to charge it anymore. So, onto my question. Is there any way that you can replace just the socket without the entire system board without getting too technical? I haven't really opened it up and investigated, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. A:Dell Inspiron 9300 System board In most cases all that is required is the pins on the socket to be re-soldered back on. That generally requires a full dis-assembly of the unit to gain easy access to it to repair it. If you wait too long you risk the chance of actually damaging the board and then you will require a new one for it. 3 more replies Answer Match 84% Runs through post hits the hard drive and stops with a flashing cursor in the upper left corner. I'll get right to it: Yesterday I was running my Dell Inspiron 9300 on battery power until I got the 'low battery alarm' (I think it's set for when the power level reaches 13 percent). I seldom do this, but I lost track of time. Anyhow I plugged the adapter back in and the laptop switched to AC power. However, the battery status light started to blink orange. I've looked at my power settings and they indicate that the battery is 98% charged. It's been at that for awhile. Even when I unplug the power source it still blinks orange. The only thing that works is removing the battery altogether. As it stands, the computer functions just fine, but that flashing light is driving me nuts. Any suggestions? A:Dell Inspiron 9300 - Flashing Orange From the manual: CHECK THE BATTERY STATUS LIGHT — If the battery status light flashes orange or is a steady orange, the battery charge is low or depleted. Connect the computer to an electrical outlet. If the battery status light flashes green and orange, the battery is too hot to charge. Shut down the computer, disconnect the computer from the electrical outlet, and then let the battery and computer cool to room temperature. Regards 5 more replies Answer Match 84% This morning I woke up to see blue flashes coming from my office at home. My cat had eaten through the cord BETWEEN my LAPTOP and it's POWER BRICK. Fortunately the cat had also pulled the cord free of the computer - and the power brick itself seems to be in good working order. Unfortunately the cat was still alive and probably hadn't been taught much of a lesson. I took one look at the cable and decided that the two areas where the cat had eaten through plastic just had to be cut from the cable (luckily both bite-spots are close to each other) and then the remaining good parts of the cable could be spliced together. However, I'm now wondering if a trip to Radioshack is in order. I would like a longer cable between power brick and computer anyway. Since I am at work now and would like to swing by radioshack on my way home from work, I cannot take another look at the damaged cable. I've checked online and can find no pinouts or schematics of the power supply. So I guess my question is this... If you were going to repair an Inspiron 9300 Power Supply cable and you wanted to do a really good job of it, what supplies would you pick up from Radioshack while you're out shopping for a cat defibrillator? An interesting thing is: today I purchased (for two computers), installed and ran SUPERAntiSpyware on it and on a Toshiba Satellite. I ran it on both at the same time while I had them side by side. While it scanned the Toshiba (which has 4x as much memory and a much bigger HDD with many more programs on it) in half an hour - - it was still scanning Memory Items on the Dell after three hours. This program scans Memory Items first, then Registry Items, then Files. It only found 648 Memory Items on the Toshiba to scan, but after three hours had found over 600,000 Memory Items and was still going at what looked like lightning speed, so fast you couldn't read what it was scanning. Question is: sometimes when you try to run two programs at once, the Dell often says it doesn't have enough available memory to run things - - even though it's seldom running more than one thing at a time, and after the thing this morning with SUPERAntiSpyware, I wondered if we have a problem with memory that's causing the computer to run so slowly? Even the Internet creeps along on the Dell, while it works fine on the Toshiba (we have DSL). The Dell is just used for studies and for email - - no photos, graphics, music or video. All of a sudden, 10 days ago, my computer became extremelly slow. However, mouse will keep working in these situation (but not keyboard). Every second or third time that I launch my computer, it will finally appear a Windows blue screen saying that a software or hardware installation has corrupted the system. I didnt install any new hardware nor software lately. However, it did happen that some regular Windows updates were interrupted (i.e., I shut down the computer before the update was finalized). Ok, here's my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 (with ATI mobility Radeon X300). Whenever i turn it on, the screen splits. One side (the right) appears ok, while the left is shifted to the right (so there is a big black space on the far right of the screen) and is all fuzzy.
There is also a barrer between the two sides, so that when i move my mouse from one side to the other, the pointer would disappear for a few moments.
Lastly, after a few minutes on, the left side would "degrade" into muticolored lines and eventually black out. its a little hard to explain.

Now, i know its a hardware problem, but i dont know whether it is the moniter, the video card, or something else in the machine. I also need to know what i should do with it from there. Thank you.

I recently bought an Inspiron 9300. I am having problems running games on it because there is a lot of stuttering. Stuttering seems to happen more frequently when there is a lot of sound going on. It is so bad, that I can't play any of my games. I noticed that my video card and sound card are sharing the same IRQ. Could this be the cause of the stuttering? Also, in dxdiag, the test sound button gives me an error after testing the software buffers saying that my sound card does not support hardware buffering. My problem only occurs in games. Listening to mp3, or playing movies does not induce stuttering.

What I've tried so far:
- Updating to the latest Dell video and sound card drivers.
- Installling other video drivers like Xtreme-G.
- Flashing the bios to the most rercent version.
- Switching from "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" to "Standard PC". This one did not work because the PCI Express Root Port device was giving an error about not being able to free enough resources. Windows was not able to detect my video card because of this.
- Disabling hardware sound acceleration.

The only solution to the stuttering problem right now is to deactivate the sound card. Once I do this, the stuttering is gone in all of my games. I thought about purchasing a PCMCIA sound card but I heard that it didn't work with internal speakers.

I really need help on this one. I'm considering returning my laptop to Dell since I have three weeks to return it in case I&... Read more
