I clicked control panel and printers faxes. Says no driver detected, so I installed the driver. Still says no driver detected and my volume control doesn't show up . Any ideas on how to get this printer going again? I got a business to run. I use the card reader on this Epson CX6000 printer to upload photos onto this PC, and I haven't been able to for 3 weeks now........

Yesterday I reinstalled Windows 7 on my notebook PC. I had to use a Microsoft installation disk because unfortunately, serious errors resulted after I installed from the HP recovery program. Consequently the HP drivers that were installed automatically with the recovery program weren't installed on my system. I had to install several of them from the HP support site. I got everything to work except for the Touch volume control, or the Volume Scroll Zone as referred to by HP in the service guide. This is the device located just above the keyboard that increases or decreases speaker volume when you drag you finger on it. I installed the Quick Launch button driver but that only applied to the mouse and pointer touchpad. I looked at the devices listed in my startup configuration. I saw the synaptics pointing device and the HP quick launch buttons listed. So is the IDT PC audio driver.  What am I missing? Where I can I find it to activate the touch volume control?

Hey guys!

I have an annoying little problem where when i DOUBLE click the sound icon, it SAYS Volume Control is open, it appears in the taskbar, but the actual control window is nowhere to be found.

If i SINGLE click the sound icon, the simple slider shows up, but I often utilize the advanced settings and recording levels for my home studio.

If i switch users, I CAN access the controls that way, but I would really rather nothave to switch users every time I wanna change levels.

any ideas what could be causing this?

A:Volume Control wont show up..... annoying..

As tough as this would be to diagnose for me without seeing your screen, I have two thoughts. Is it possible that the volume control window is off screen somewhere, that the last time it was opened it was closed in a spot where you're jut not seeing it and now it opens there every time? Also, have you had dual monitors on the PC you're working on, do you now? That would put the icon off screen also I guess, which is my only thought at the moment on this?

My sound volume buttons work fine. My mute button works fine. But all of a sudden, whereas I used to get a bar across my screen when I pressed them (like I currently do when I use the "brightness" function keys) now I don't. Why?

Hi, I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium (service pack 1)

The volume icon isn't showing up on my toolbar for some reason....the volume works fine and I can hear sound but it gets annoying when I have to control the volume by other means because it's not on the toolbar. I tried right-clicking on "start", clicking on "properties" and then "notification area" but when I get there I'm unable to click on "volume." I also tried going to the sounds portion of the control panel and couldn't find anything. I'm hoping this is just some simple option that I'm not finding (I'm not exactly great w/ computers), and if anyone could help me out that would be great. Thank you!!!

I don't know what's happening lately. I've changed a few settings for quicker bootup time, but it had nothing to do with those. I had to restart the computer because the volume and the battery icon wasn't in the system tray. Right now, only the battery icon is showing and the volume one is not there. Any reason why it might be doing this? Any way to fix it?

I would suspect that you did turn off the system tray indicators. You might not realized that whatever you changed would affect them.

The volume indicator you should be able to turn back on by going into Volume Settings, there should be an option for Show in System tray or something similar.

The same should go for the battery, but I am not an expert on notebooks (still learning )

I have a WD 500GB external hard disk. It had been working fine on any computer systems that I used it on, for more than 5 months and all of a sudden it is not shown in the My Computer window. But it is still detected and installed correctly on any system that I plugged it into.

Here is a screenshot of diskmgmt. It says the disk is unallocated.

Any ideas how to solve this problem?

P.S. I already tried rebooting in safe mode, and rebooting again in normal mode. It didn't help. Also I have read many posts with similar problems but they do not exactly match my problem scenario and weren't of any help either.

I just bought a new WD IDE HD (250Gb), I connected it as slave (my old HD, also a WD, but 80Gb, is still master), when I start the computer the drive is detected by the BIOS, Windows also detects it as "new hardware", but when I open My Computer or Windows Explorer the new drive is nowhere to be found.
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot,

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and I have all my sound drivers installed (I can get sound just fine in every app), but I can't control the main volume in the Volume Control. I can adjust the volume with the Wave slider, but the main one doesn't do anything, including mute. Individual applications' volume controls work fine too, just not the main Windows one. It wouldn't be a problem, but it might be the reason why I'm not getting any volume on the Stereo Mix recording option. I just finished a clean install of XP (for a different reason) and it wasn't working before, either. Any ideas?

Odd problem. Yesterday I wanted to check the status of the batteries in my Microsoft wireless mouse, so opened Control Panel, and clicked "Printers and Other Hardware" (whose icon actually shows a mouse). Choices are Pick a task: View installed printers or Add a printer. Under "or Pick a Control Panel icon, I have only Printers and Faxes, and Scanners and Cameras. THE MOUSE ISN'T A CHOICE, AS IN NOT THERE! In order to get to the mouse, I have to switch to classic (Win98) mode, which contains an icon for the mouse.

Wasn't that way we I first got the computer. Why doesn't my mouse show on the XP style of the Control Panel?

A:Control Panel App doesn't show up nor open

Hello Skream,

Do you mean that the Control Panel app is not on the Metro Start screen?

Control Panel - Open in Windows 8
If so, then you could create a Metro Apps shortcut from the first tutorial below, create a shortcut of Control Panel to pin to Apps, then pin it from Apps to the Metro "Start" screen in the second tutorial below.

Continuation from this.

I've tried all steps but I can't seem to get to my hard drive.

Windows 7 Professional 64x.
Drivers Updated.
Plugged in properly.
Installed and uninstalled device driver.
Gave the drive a letter and changed the letter many times.
Hard drive is still working because I was just using it in my machine before I reinstalled Windows 7.
iomega case works fine because I used it with a 1tb drive last night.
Plugged it into many different USB ports and changed cables.

I've tried a lot of things to get this to work but I haven't been successful... It's nearly full and has all my work/software on it. When I plug it in to a USB port it installs it then disappears, even says that it installs successfully. You can see that it gets noticed in the device manager as: SPIF301 USB2SATA Bridge USB Device

If you can help in anyway at all, it will be much appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Pretty often clicking on my sound icon (Which IS present in the system tray), does not open the volume control slider. When this happens I go to Control Panel but Sound controls won't open from that location either. There's no way to control the volume and must reboot to get it back (temporarily, because it keeps happening).

Do I possibly need driver updates? If so, which one of these is my sound card?

A:Tecra P5 - Volume control doesn’t work properly

As far as I know volume control in the past was mechanical but now it works on different way and it is controlled by specific tool/utility.
To be honest Tecra P5 is not known to me but obviously it is Australian notebook model and according to Australian support page this notebook model is not supported for Windows 7.

That doesn?t mean you cannot use it but this means there is not software package designed for Windows 7 that can be installed so I think there is no much you can do about it.

I know it is annoying but for volume control you can use Windows option placed in task bar.

Hi Everyone,

I have been struggling with getting my SLI to work.

System:
| i7-2770k 3.5gHz | ASUS P8Z68-V Pro | 2x4gb Kingston Hyper X | PoV Nvidia GTX 550 Ti 1gb | Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 550 Ti 1gb | Cougar 750watt PSU | Windows 7 Enterprise |

The VGA cards are:
Connected via SLI link.
Connected to power.
Connected correctly on the Mother Board.

My Mother Board is SLI compatible.
My PSU is SLI compatible.
My drivers are installed and up to date.
I have re-installed my drivers as well.
I have updated my Bios as well. (During which my Primary drive got corrupted and I had to start all over)

Nvidia Control Panel is STILL not giving me any SLI configuration options. It detects that both VGA cards are connected and I can select which core to use, but nothing about SLI.

I'm stuck and need to be pointed in the right direction.

Can anyone offer some advice?

Thanks in advance!

A:Nvidia Control Panel doesn't show SLI options

I know you said you've updated the bios but have you checked for settings related to SLI in the BIOS? There may be a setting to enable it.

Also from some of the forums I've read, people have resolved a similar issue by rolling back the Realtek Ethernet driver, apparently this is related to the Z68 boards. May be worth a shot at least since updating the driver would be simple enough.

Hi Windows Seven Forums,
I'm walking through what should be a very easy FTP server install from the Windows 7 Features. This walkthrough is great...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vrzNPq-B6Ts

Unfortunately, when I click on:

Control Panel
Programs and Features
Turn Windows features on or off
Internet Information Services plus sign
FTP server plus sign
FTP Extensibility check box is clicked which highlights all FTP server check boxes
Click OK.
Microsoft Windows then says Please wait while Windows makes changes to features. This might take several minutes.

Once installed, I click on:
Control Panel
Administrative Tools (click on View by: Large icons if you can't see Administrative Tools)
...and no Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager?

I have restarted the PC and removed unchecked the FTP server and restarted...what's happened?

When installing applications they appear to install correctly. An icon is created on the desktop and I can access the program.

In control panel under programs and features... the application is not showing up. I cannot uninstall the programs, because they aren't showing in programs and features to uninstall.

Yes, workarounds can be used to delete the program, but there is something wrong. The programs are not installing properly.

I ran sfc/ scannow as admin no problems indicated
After a couple hours messing with this:

Thought I should add this... When I right click on the installer/setup exe file and select to run as administrator the installer works and does show up in programs and features... Also, I can delete the program as well from programs and features.

I have never had to do this before even though I am admin...(in name mostly) unless I am willing to allow more vulnerability to my system by turning on all the time. Still having to run as admin does seem a bit much for installing programs. The worst part...the installer will run, installs the program, yet leaves off the ability to uninstall or change in the programs and features page of control panel

Orig. tried replying in No volume control for Line In (Sigma Tel) but could not since the thread is too old.

I am aware of this new thread: Latest Realtek HD Audio Driver Version but am frankly afraid to download and install anything new from Sigmatel.

OK, enough preamble. Problem was that it seemed that "intermittently" (ie, between boot-ups) I was able to/not able to get to the Volume Mixer/Volume Control utility provided by the Sigmatel drivers and accessible via the speaker icon found in the lower-right-hand corner in Windows Explorer. [I am on a Gateway ML6228 laptop (an oldie but a goodie... well, maybe...) w/ Vista 32-bit, SP2, for anyone who cares.] Thus I could not adjust the volume from Windows Explorer, but only from my media players (which support a much-more limited range of volume as we all know).

I am guessing this is a bug/oversight on their part but this appears to be the issue: If on bootup when the S'tel drivers load they detect an output-receiving device, such as speakers or a headphone, they suppress access to the volume control. I have no idea why they might do this but that seems to be the precipitating factor. If you boot up however with any and all audio output-receiving devices disconnected from your machine, you get the familiar Volume Mixer/Volume Control utility back in the lower-right corner of Windows Explorer.

This is really dumb, but there it is. One could go nuts installing and reinstalling drivers all day to no av... Read more

Select the unknown device or other device for which you need drivers and right click to access Properties.4. Hi everyone,
I apologize in advance- I don't know much about computers.
A few days ago, I shut the lid of my Hp Dv6 6108us laptop (running windows 7 home premium 64 bit) and when I opened it later, the Wi-Fi button was lit amber, signaling that it was turned off. I pressed it again to turn it on, but nothing changed. Since this has happened once or twice before (I didn't think too much of it) I just restarted the laptop, which usually got the light back to blue (=working Wifi). Nothing changed over several reboots.
So I did some googling.
My driver is a RAlink rt5390 802.11 b/g/n adapter
I've tried pressing the F12 button (which turns wifi on and off)
I've tried a hard reset
I've tried going into the registry, disabled WLAN AutoConfig and restarted.
I've updated BIOS and the chipset driver available here (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...t=5118843#N253)
I tried changing the power settings so the wifi wouldn't turn off during sleep mode, but it acted as if I had no wireless driver. Troubleshoot did nothing but suggest I use an ethernet cable.
I've uninstalled (then reinstalled after it didn't help) HP connection manager.
I did a system restore to before the problem occurred.
I finally found the device in device manager after doing the "show non present devices=1" in the registry.

well, I finally got that sorted out, ( I think ) and now I am trying relentlessly to get catalyst pro control center to work properly. Ive read numerous places online that involves editing the Assembly folder, but I have no such keys in there.

when I try and run CCC, it tells me that I am unable to run as I wouldn't be able to change any settings within the app basically. Ive tried uninstalling, installing. trying ATI opposed to AMD- to no anvil.

ok so this problem was just about from the beginning. i thought i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of Msn M. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by youtube, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m. even now with live messenger i have the issue. im tired of being patient so here i am

For some reason the onscreen display for the volume controls and screen brightness on my W530 stop working after coming back from sleep or resume. I updated Power Management, Hotkey and Interface but the problem still rears its ugly head. If I go into screen resolution and advanced and on screen then uncheck Enable onscreen and recheck it...the controls work again.

try to reinstall the OSD software. Uninstall the current OSD software that you have, and download the latest version from below.

A:Control/C Control/V control/alter/delete doesn't work

Mary, keyboard problems are not invariably software or malware-related. First things first - what OS are you talking about ? XP, Win 7, Win 8 or what? What type of keyboard is it? PS2, USB or wireless?

Disconnect it and reconnect it a few times, reboot and try again. Turn the keyboard upside down, placing one end on the edge of a thick book, and thump a few times on the back with your hand. Sweep the crud onto the carpet.....

Is it just a keyboard hardware problem, and if so which keys? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/keyboard-shortcuts#keyboard-shortcuts=windows-7 tells you a lot of key combinations with ctrl and shift and alt. Tell us if any or none work?

Open a document and try typing a bit of text. Do all the characters work?

If it appears the keyboard is faulty, can you borrow another to test?

Quite often, keyboard problems are down to wireless problems: and can often be solved by re-installing the keyboard driver.

Hello :)
I hope I put this in the right area..

I've been searching for a solution to this volume problem for a while now, but to no avail. I've found others with a similar problem, but no solution. So here's the deal: I just got a new motherboard, and ever since I got it my volume control has been faulty. First of all, all sounds are very quiet, even when all volume sliders are set to maximum. Next the main volme control has no effect whatsoever on the volume of the computer. I can can slide it all the way to the top, or all the way to the bottom, nothing changes. The only thing that makes any difference is the Wave control and it barely does anything. Also, when I put "Mute all"...it doesn't mute. However when I put mute for Wave control, no sound comes out.
All this is incredibly annoying because I often listen to music on my computer, but now I basically can't hear it. To note: I don't have a volume control on my keyboard, or on my speakers, and I know nothing is wrong with the speakers.

If anyone could help, I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks :)

So, is it possible?

Thanks.

Short Story
Wave meter in volume control keeps stopping. I googled it, seems to be a virus. Performed a virus scan, came up with nothing. Did it with another anti-virus program, also showed nothing. Need help. Thanks.

Long Story
So basically, I wanted to watch a youtube video. When I played it, there was no sound. Thinking it was a simple volume problem, I checked the video volume, the small icon on the taskbar, and even went into the control panel to adjust the volume settings. I thought it might be my headphones, but I tried using the speakers and neither worked. I tried doing the voice playback, and then I could hear my voice. I thought maybe it was fixed. Played the video, no sound. At that point I thought it was my sound card. I didn't want to replace it, so I kept trying to look for a better solution. After much frustration, I managed to make my way into the volume control. Start - Control Panel - Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices - Adjust the System Volume - Audio - Sound Playback: Default Device: SoundMAX Digital Audio - Volume - Wave. I saw that the Wave option was all the way down, and moved it up. After moving it, I could hear the video crystal clear, so I closed all the windows I didn't need anymore. Well, after about 30 seconds, the volume shut off again. I went back into volume control, and the wave bar was all the way down again. I raised it, and closed the window. I was looking for the apply button to become available, for I had assumed that not app... Read more

Do you have the latest drivers for your soundcard installed? Please check the motherboard maker's website.

I'm running windows XP on an old Dell Inspiron 1501 and I'm trying to get my microphone to play directly through my speakers so I can record them both simultaneously. The only answer I've been finding is to tick the 'microphone' checkbox in the volume control playback properties panel, but I don't have a microphone checkbox. There should be a 'microphone' box under SW Synth and CD player but I don't get one apparently.I've downloaded the latest SigmaTel Audio drivers from Dell and despite not having a problem with them before this, I'm inclined to believe that they're the problem. Any ideas?

A:No microphone control in playback Volume Control panel

Okay well of course I find an answer right after posting the topic:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19295458.aspx
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810

Those two pages detail how to get an Input Monitor checkbox which functions just like the microphone one I wanted (although you can only mute it, not alter the volume). I used Instructional Set 3 from the second page, having to add the 'RecMonitorMute' entry as detailed in the first page and I can now hear my microphone input directly through my speakers.

HOWEVER, I'm still unable to record both the microphone and speaker sound at the same time. I thought recording the 'Stereo Mix' channel with the microphone coming through the speakers would work but it isn't and I don't know why. Any ideas?

mmmm....actually i've had a very similiar problem....not quite sure how i fixed it though. Try updating your drivers for your soundcard, that might help. Also(obviously) go into control panel, and mess with things from there. Also, do you have any errors with any sound drivers of any kind? i know if....kind of nuke some of mine(stupid me) with an anti-adware program....if you have that could be part of the prob, and those usually aren't to hard to fix, just take a little time.

Hi everyone,

I noticed the volume of my music was not as loud as it was in the past when playing CD's or MP3 files with Windows Media Player 10. I had the volume turned all the way up in Media player and also in Realtek HD Audio Manager, but the sound was just not anywhere near as loud as it was before. I recently un-installed "Discover stream hub / Discover.exe" and thought that this might have had something to do with it, but that does not seem to be the case.

I decided to try to play an mp3 file with Realplayer and found that with the volume turned up in realplayer, the mp3 files sounded normal again, plenty of volume.

What surprised me is that if I close Realplayer with it's volume control turned up, then open the MP3 with Medial player, it will sound normal in media player, (plenty of volume). If I turn the volume control in Real player all the way down, close it, then play a file with Media Player, there will be no sound at all.

Somehow, the volume control for Realplayer is effecting and overriding the volume control for Media Player. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to how this might be happening ? Has anyone else ever experienced this type of thing ?

It's not a big deal now that I found out what was going on, but tracking down problems like this can drive you nuts. It seems crazy that the volume control from one program would control the other, I'm just wondering what might be going on. I'm using Windows XP Media Center Ed... Read more

A:Real Player volume control also controls Media Player Volume ?

Hi John

The reason that this happens is that when you change the volume in real player, it changes the 'Wave' volume for the whole system. I don't pretend to know too much about this but basically, real player changes part of the system volume which also affects the volume in media player. To see this for yourself, open Real Player and then go into Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices under control panel. Click on Advanced Volume Controls under the 'See Also' heading on the left. There should be a column labelled 'Wave'. If you now change the volume in Real Player, you will see this changing also. As a result, it changes the volume system wide. Hope this solves your confusion.

The function 'Safely remove Hardware and eject Media' (SRH) normally displays the volume name just below the corresponding disk name.

In this case, 2 external disks connected via eSATA to a specific controller show their disk name (friendly name) like under 'Disk drives' in the device manager, but the disks do NOT show their volume names.

I have found that klicking the SRH-function triggers the DeviceDisplayStatusManager.exe and its .dll (DDSM) which then reads the content of a disk to be displayed in the SRH panel.
this of course is convenient to ensure the anticipated selection of the drive (volume) to be removed.

Back to the case mentioned, the DDSM shows 2 drives with the same name but without volume specific information.
It is impossible to know which one of the 2 disks is the one anticipated to be removed. (Naturally one selects the wrong disk).

Hence the question is: What can I do so that the volume names are listed for those 2 drives as well? I'd assume there is a parameter in the registry that enables the DDSM to retrieve the volume information for each disk per specific port.
Does anyone know the registry key that enables the SRH-function to read & display the volume name for each disk?

The controller is a Marvell9128 in AHCI mode*. Connected to it are 2x SATA disks Western Digital WD1002FAEX via a SATA Hot Swap HDD Rack Kit (Lian-Li EX-H34)

A:Show Volume name in SRH

"safely remove hardware" shows the device name from it's firmware. Showing instead the volume label would be impractical since a device may have two or more volumes (partitions) on it, and it would not be possible to remove one partition independently of the others on the same device.

It therefore follows that it also wouldn't make sense to list volume labels for external disks in the "safely remove hardware" utility.

I have a dell inspiron E1505 that i'm working on for a friend of a friend that has the UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error. I've seen this plenty of times and can usually solve it in recovery console with an XP disc. well for what ever reason, I have no clue why, he has like 4 different partitions on here but the "C" drive is still the partition with XP installed on it from what I can tell. However... When I boot into recovery console it only gives me one option to select: "1: F:\(insert drive name here)" it doesn't give me multiple numbers to choose from. so that kind of makes me think that his xp is installed on this F drive since thats the only windows installation that it found. But even when I try to perform the fixes on that drive it dosen't work. chkdsk /r , fixboot, etc etc doesn't help at all. So either, this "F" drive isn't the drive that needs to be fixed, and if that is the case, how do I force it to select the C drive? OR F is the right drive and these fixes just simply aren't working, if that is the case, where to go from here?

I'm at a loss.. help.

Ok ,this is really weird. I don't know if someone is taking over my computer or what. Boot up is really slow with process taking 50% CPU. Account unknown is on the logon under permissions as well as the console logon. I have to kill the process or else the process keeps using up my ram. This is on a Intel dual core processor with Windows 7 professional home and 2gb of ram on a 320HD.

When I get email in outlook, clicking on the message opens up my browser as though looking for a server and I get an error message. file:///C:/Users/Hannspree/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Windows/Temporary%20Internet%20Files/%7B89314F91-B675-4CF9-A7F2-544F14BA1676%7D/%7BE78C07C0-7AAE-4B63-BB6C-D692F73D3559%7D.html

I happen to look a C:\ drive under properties. I click on defrag and I get an extra volume or drive showing up. What is more strange is the fact is that I just happen to click on the C Drive and click on tools and then defrag, it shows a strange volume or disk. I have no idea where or how that disk got on my computer. It looks like a redirect to a server somewhere.

A:Volume control

If you mean the SW Synth and Input Monitor levels that are currently at minimum or muted, then no, increasing or unmuting these won't alter the volume of your speakers.

SW Synth sets the level of sounds created when something is playing the soundcard's software synthesiser ("Soundblaster" type music in some mostly older games), Input Monitor is mostly used to allow you to also hear your own voice when using a headset.

Typically, when I change the volume (on this laptop, it's FN + PGUP/PGDN), a large, neon green volume bar appears on the bottom showing how high the volume is, much like on a TV. But now, when I change the volume, I don't see the bar, so I'm not sure how high or low the volume is.

The volume control works, I just can't see what level the volume is at. This is probably something I could deal with or get used to, but it'd be nice to get it back if possible. Does anyone have any idea what process controls the on-screen volume level? Thanks in advance!

Hi. . .

Look in msconfig for un-checked boxes.
START | run | type msconfig

Look under start-up first, then services. If a service needs to be re-enabled go into services.msc.

I would say it is most likely a Gateway program as some laptops have the green horizontal volume bar and others don't.

Regards. . .

I was cleaning up some unused programs and windows options and somehow deleted the volume icon on the task bar. I can still adjust the volume using the control panel but when I click add icon to the taskbar it won't add it. How can I get it back? Windows XP.

A:volume control

First make sure its not in the system tray, and not just hidden since windows auto-hides icons after a while. I know its stupid, but got to ask cause i've been asked similar before and all it was, was windows auto-hiding it

If its not that, goto the task manager and under "processes" look for sndvol32.exe. (or just Sndvol.exe)

If its not there goto Start > Run then type "msconfig" and hit enter. Under the start up tab, check if sndvol32.exe (Sndvol.exe) is in there and that it is ticked.

If it is not, then go back to task manager, goto applications tab, and hit "New Task..."

then type in "c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe"
or "c:\windows\system32\sndvol.exe"

If it then appears, then the easiest step now is to create a shortcut to the file location you entered in and put this shortcut in
"c:\windows\start menu\programs\start up\"
and this should start it everytime you start windows.

If however you enter in either file location and it can't find them, then they are missing or damaged and is what is causing the missing volume icon. To repair this you'll need to extract the file from your windows CD to your windows\system32\ folder.

Hopefully this helps you. This is presuming your using windows volume control. Some use different ones, mine uses realteks instead so the above wouldn't work the same in my case.

Something's wrong with my Volume Control. It was fine until one day, while I was listening to music on youtube.com, I couldn't hear the song after 2 minutes.I restarted the laptop, but the volume didn't work. I opened the Volume Control and saw the wave turn down to 0 although I didn't do anything. I turned it up to maximum and continued listening to music on iTunes. Two minutes later, the wave turned down to 0 again. It continued turning down to 0 after every 2 minutes. Moreover, when I turn the wave up, I heard the sound of the advertising although I didn't use the internet. I use Firefox, but Internet Explorer popped up some websites. I don't know what's wrong with it.I used Malware and McAfee to scan for virus, but no virus was found.I don't know what to do

A:volume control

Basically what you need to do is to reinstall the sound card driver again.
So head -on to manufacturer web site ( of the sound card) and download the latest driver and install it.
If you have a OEM PC ( as in Dell, Gateway, HP etc....) go to there web site and download the driver and install it.
And windows is looking on the win98 cd because that's what windows does ...
On the other hand if can check the Device Manager and the Sound card is listed without any yellow question marks then in Control Panel under multimedia should be able to see a checkbox which will " put an icon in the system tray" which might need to be checked.

ok. I have windows XP. (sadly enough). and...I decided to run disk clean up. And well apparently it was decided the following are no longer worthy of being on my computer:

*Games (the bundle of games like solitaire)
*IE link in status bar and desktop
*WMP link in Start Menu
and most importantly...
*Volume Control in system bar

...and when i go to control panel -> sounds and audio devices...

the checkbox IS clicked for display in system bar. so i uncheck it, then check it, and...it tells me...it's not installed.

...

freaking DISK CLEANUP uninstalled my volume control. wth.

well i've managed to get the IE links back...i've decided i really don't use the WMP link, but the volume control and games I have not. could someone help me? any help would be appreciated, thanks.

A:Volume Control

You could try doing a system restore to a point just prior to doing the
disk clean up. **See link below
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...emrestore.mspx

Or

Do a sfc /scannow *see the below link
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

Those would be your best options.

Seems I can not apply the volume icon to my task bar.

I am not that smart when it comes to computers but I have tried every thing and I had a friend help and he said that I should come here make this post stating what he found.

Seems I am missing this file name Sndvol32.exe from orignal OS

Whatever that mean. I sure do hope someone can help me.

A:Volume Control

If you still have the original OS CD (win XP install disc), put in in your primary cd drive, goto the startmenu, click run. type in cmd and click ok(brings you to the dos prompt). now type in "sfc /scannow". this checks and recopy's original system files that were installed with XP. It won't delete any files it just makes sure all the original files are in tack and how they should be. Good luck.

Hello, i'm currently using internet explore 8. i was wondering if there was a keyboard hot key to lower and raise the volume on youtubes player... Feedback would be great thanks...

A:is there a hot key to control the volume...

A single keystroke could not work as how would it know if you wanted the volumn up or down? At the bottom left of the You Tube Preview window is the volumn slider. Just rest your curser on the speaker icon then it's no great effort needed to slide that back and forth!

Hello i came across this forum and thought maybe someone would be able to help me. i have some speakers i need to control the volume with a remote control instead of the knob on the speaker itself. Below is a list of hardward i would be using with the box.

That i Have Now:

DirecTV HD/DVR Box connected by HDMI to my TV

Bose Companion 2 Series II - PC multimedia speakers connected by 3.5mm Jack to my TV.
I dont like this because the sound is low and not the best. I have plug the speakers direct to the directv box and the sound is dramatically improved, the only problem is i can no longer control the volume using the remote. i have to use the knob on the speakers which makes it very inconvinent.

I had an idea for a simple volume control box that i think would be easy enough to make (if i knew what i needed). I put together a mock up to kinda of show you what i think would solve my problem. Do you you think it is possible? Anyways your input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Something strange happens to me when I try to adjust the volume.

If I play a music file and try to adjust the volume using the buttons on the front of my Dell XPS M1210 nothing happens.
But, if I open the Volume Control clicking on the icon in the system tray and adjust the volume from there, then i can change volume also using the buttons on the laptop.
Closing the file and opening another one the same problem comes back. Till I open the Volume Control....

What is the "cure" for this strange behavior?
Thanks

Hi Guys,

anyone know if its possible to get an on screen volume control when you are playing music. At the moment I can only see how to start and stop music from playing.

I can turn the volume up and down via my keyboard but would like to do it on screen via my mouse.

If I drop to my old windows desktop (which I'm desperately trying not to do) I can control it with the speaker icon in my taskbar but I can't for the life of me work out how to adjust volume on screen.

Hey all,
I've never run into this issue before, so looking for some help:

The Volume Control in my Windows Media player does not work. The Windows Volume Control applet works fine.
I was using WMP10, and it didn't work, so I updated to WMP11, and still it didn't work. I disabled my one addon, and still no luck.

Would it be a registry issue? Any idea on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Joe

Somehow, when going into "Sound and Audio Devices" from my Control Panel, I find that all the options are, unclickable. I don't know how else to describe it.
I'm referring to the slidebar that controls volume, the "mute" and "Place volume icon in taskbar" are uncheckable as well.

Model and/or specs of the computer could help. Try reinstalling your sound drivers....

Hello Vinlibassi, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if you may be able to fix the volume icon by seeing if enabling the volume icon using the tutorial below.

Volume Control has suddenly disappeared from my system....I checked the 'show speaker icon in tray' and got this message.

Windows cannot display the Volume Control on the task bar because Volume Control program has not been installed. Use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

I have no idea how to do this as it has never been a problem. I have XP Professional installed. I changed over from Zone Alarm to Sygate last week as it was causing a few problems with software. I also have SpyBot and Ad-aware and use them I do hope you can advise me what to do

The Sounds and Multimedia control panel has that option. Look for a small check box that says something like "Show volume control in task bar." and make sure it's checked.
