Solved: Microsoft Office 2003 Doesn't Work On 64-Bit Vista?

Q: Solved: Microsoft Office 2003 Doesn't Work On 64-Bit Vista?

Hey folks,

I switched from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Vista and my Microsoft Office 2003 isn't working on Vista for some reason. Is this supposed to happen or is there something I can do or something that I can download to make it work with Vista by any chance??? Or is there nothing I can do to make Office 2003 compatible with 64-bit Vista? Do I absolutely *HAVE* to have Office 2007 for 64-bit Vista?

Thanks in advance, folks!!

I'm using access 2003.

I have the Microsoft Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 installed for winxp pro. I verified it's installed, but I still get error message when I open any access database. Even if I create a brand new one in access.

I read something about sandbox mode? Do I need to force access into sandbox mode?

Hello,

I have a recently purchased laptop running Windows Vista 64-bit. The computer came with a pre-installed, trial version of Microsoft Office Student and Teacher edition 2007. I purchased Microsoft Office Student and Teacher edition 2003 a couple of years ago and wish to install this on the laptop running Windows Vista 64-bit.

Will this work? I should probably go ahead and uninstall Microsoft Office Student and Teacher edition 2007 before installing the 2003 version, right? I've also done some searching on this website and others on how to do this. Some suggest installing Office 2003, then visiting the Windows Update website before opening any Office programs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

emptx

Any one come across this problem? Is there a compatibility issue? (Please do not tell me I have to get Office 2007!) I have checked that the licence is activated.

I just purchased a Win 8 laptop (HP Pavilion Notebook PC) for $400, after returning a Surface Pro 2 (total cost $1500 +).
The Surface Pro 2 with touch screen was a nightmare to use.
The HP has a no-touch screen and I like that.

I want to keep up with the technology so that is the reason for the new HP unit.
I have Office 2003 on the XP and I am aware that it most likely will not perform on the Win 8 device.
So, do I buy Office 2010 and will it work the same way, allowing me to store all my emails on the hard drive?
Or, does the new Office 2010 or 2013 store that info on a remote server (cloud)?

Additionally, is there a way to emulate Windows Xp on the
new computer, not that itís a major requirement, just curious?

Just recently something has changed with my Microsoft Office Word 2003 app.

I'm a writer and I have always been able to drag my pages that I have written today to a folder in My Documents and the same file would stay on my desktop for immediate access later. I realize other may not work this way but it is how I prefer to work as it has become my habit

When I try to drag and drop it now, it drops into the My Documents folder but it no longer remains on the desktop.

Now, in conjunction with this problem, I have another new problem, which is that when I write a page of text in Word and save it to a My Documents folder it doesn't go there. Also when I save a picture to My Pictures as I've always done it won't be there when I look for it. Something is preventing me from saving things and I haven't a clue what it is. I have to open the My Documents folder and drag the Word text page into it. It's the only way I can save stuff for some reason.

Can someone please tell me how I can fix this problem?

Thank you in advance.

I'm having a strange problem with Microsoft Word 2003 SP3.

It only happens on new docs. I'm a writer and when I open ongoing projects in Word everything is fine, but when I open a new doc. my Page Setup doesn't work. If I set it to have 1" of space top, bottom and sides, it doesn't work on the top. My first line starts at the very top of the page.

Also, the ruler up the left side should be dark where that top inch of space should be, but it isn't because it's not working. I discovered a temporary fix in Page Setup by setting the top space to be 2" and the sides and bottom to be 1". However, even doing this I don't get the dark inch or so at the top of my left margin ruler.

I did a repair in ADD Remove Programs but it didn't change anything. It might be a corruption in Word because I have the same Office 2003, SP3 on my laptop and I've compared all the settings on both computers and they appear to be identical.

Has anyone here run into this problem, and do you think uninstalling and reinstalling Office might solve the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I'm having problems with all programs in Microsoft Office 2003. Here's the situation...

6 months ago I took a computer class which taught the use of Microsoft Office 2007 programs. As a part of the class, we got a trial version of Microsoft Office 2007, which is supposed to last for 180 days.

A few weeks ago the trial period ended and I could no longer use Office '07. I uninstalled the trial software and wanted to go back to using Office '03.

However, now whenever I try to start any program from Office '03, I get a message box telling me it's beginning some kind of installer. After a minute of this box, I get an error message saying:

"This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package."

I downloaded and used the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility, but it didn't help. I can't run any of the Office programs, repair them using the installation CD, or even uninstall any of them. I'm running Windows XP Professional.

What are my options? Are there anyways to fix this problem?

Hey everybody

I've been trying to figure this out for a while, but just can't seem to get it to work right.

I have the Microsoft Office Access 2003 Developer Extensions, which has a packaging wizard, that is used to package up a Access database and include a runtime environment, so users without access on their computer can use a database.

I have access on the computer in my office, so I take the file I want to package, and run the wizard, creating a setup file for the database and runtime. Now, I go over to the server, run the setup program, and have it installed on the server.

I can run the database on the server fine. I open it up, it runs in runtime mode, just as the package wizard said it should, and I can do whatever I want. The problem I am having is, I try to create a share, so that I can share this program with users on the network.

When I do this, it just doesn't work right. It is saying that it can't find the file "C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\ifg_agent_database\ifg_agents_modified_10_13_05.mdb"

Any ideas on what is going on?

I work with Microsoft Outlook 2003 and I would like to add all the mailaddresses I have in the folder: "Contacts", into my Sender List. What means: When I write an email and click on: "From". that I can choose from the senderlist which are all listed in Contacts.
Reason for it is, that I do send emails with multiple different sender addresses. (Business, Private, Hotmail, Gmail and so on)

I did a complete new installation of my system and it was possible before without any problems. It was automatically like this, when I added a new email address to my contacts it was "ALSO" available in the "From" menu.

PS: I also get the same message when clicking on To, CC or BCC. I just cannot choose from my contacts even so they are there.

When I compose an email now and click on the: From" link, I do get the error-message:
"The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions. (btw. I'm admin on the system). For information on how to remove this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Office Outlook Help.
(couldn't find anything in the help menu either)

Good afternoon people,

Firstly, I would like to say hello to everyone who've helped me in the past with my Access help. It's been a long absence with study commitments and such, but as is the purpose of this group, I would like to ask for some tech help:

The situation: Microsoft Word (as part of Office 2003 Professional Edition) frequently closes without user notification on my dad's laptop (Windows Vista Basic). It's recently started, and it interrupts his work. He says that the issue occurs when he minimises documents, but he didn't indicate a frequency of this occurrence. He also told me that once he successfully saves a document and closes Word, he then encounters issues when opening said document; it says that the file has been "corrupted" (I can't remember exactly what the dialog box says), and that the data can be recovered, or to proceed with opening the document. Data recovery doesn't work, and when he proceeds to open the document, Word returns "Program not responding" and "Critical error caused by the program" and other prompts of this nature, which then forces the program to quit.

I am aware that a similar problem is in the Microsoft Knowledge Base for Word 2003, but was last revised in 2004 (so covered only xp and 2000), and am not certain if this issue is the same for Windows Vista. It related to the "Handwriting Recognition" program.

Additionally, as always, there are a multitude of ... Read more

Hi,
I've just bought a Toshiba A135-S4527 with Vista installed. Originally I took off the Office 2007 trial(beta)ware. Installed my Office 2003 and every time I opened (or launched an app) I got a "windows is installing config..." You know the story. I found no fix so I figured I could use that copy (2003) on an XP machine for my son. Got a brand new copy of Office Pro 2007, etc, installed it AND I have same d-mn problem to a T.

Additionally when opening Excel I get an alert box with "stdole32.tlb" and thats all it says. This alert only occurs with Excel. When I dismiss the box (alert window) then it starts running a "Process Configuring..." event, as does Winword, Powerpoint, Publisher, etc. I have checked the register IAW MS KB and the factor is in the registry with a valid path.

Outlook is not an issue as I prefer not to use it.

Anyone know how to fix this, I would be VERY grateful. I might even donate my first born son or something.

I have a spread-sheet done in Microsoft Excel 2003, but I was wondering if it was possible to do something a bit clever with it.

What I have in the spread-sheet is two work-sheets (the tabs down the bottom of the screen). Now, one of these work-sheets is a list of DVD's that I want to buy, and the other is a list of DVD's that I already have.

What I want to do is to have something on the work-sheet of DVD's that I want to buy where I can check them off, or press a button, or something, when I buy them, and then it removes itself from that list and adds it to the bottom of the second work-sheet (with the DVD's that I already have).

I hope that makes sense! Any help would be appreciated.

Whenever I try to install Office 2003 Professional onto a new Sony Viao laptop model # VGN-FZ340E, running Vista Home Premium I get an error message stating " missing file
A2561405.cab "
I select the option to browse for the file and point to it and click OK and the error message comes right back. I even copied the cab file to the desktop and pointed to it. Still didn't work.
I have tried an original multi user CD and also a copy which I have used many times before without any problems. I even used it on another Vista computer afterwards and it worked fine.
I have not installed SP1 yet because I am not sure if it will fix things or mess them up like WIndows XP SP2 did.

I googled the error and found a link telling how to use regedit to fix this problem and it didn't help either.

Has any one else run into this nagging problem and maybe found a way to fix it?

I'm on Windows XP w/SP2. It had Office 2003. I've had my computer since 2004.
Before I installed Office 2007, Office '03 worked fine. Then I needed '07 for a college class and installed a trial. Office '07 worked fine, but the MS Word shortcut in my quicklaunch bar pointed to Word '03 still. Whenever I'd hit it by accident, it would try to install Office '03("Please wait while Windows Configures Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003). I canceled it on the second screen and it worked anyway.

The second screen had this:
Installation Error: File not Found

A required installation file SKU1E3.CAB could not be found.

Before, I'd hit cancel and MS Word '03 would get to working anyway. Then I'd close it and go into Word 07. I think there was some error message, but I don't remember it. Now, I just uninstalled an Office '07 trial. The same thing is happening again, but now when I hit cancel, it says "fatal error during installation." It's a different error message from the one I got last time.

I really need help here. I've got homework due tomorrow for some online classes, and need Word to do it.

I tried going into control panel > Add/Remove Programs > Office '03 and clicking change to do the repair thing, but it led to the same problem.

Thanks in advance. If you need any more information to help, please let me know. I can't open any Office items. This Windows Installe... Read more

I have Office 2007 and it seems to me that most tasks require an extra click. Let me explain. In Office 2007 if I want to print I have to click on the office button on the top left and then click print. In Office 2003 there was a print icon on the taskbar that required one click. Is there anyway to setup Office 2007 so that some basic functions (print, save, open, etc.) can be accomplished with one click?

Hi, I run a Windows XP Media Center Edition (2005 Version), and recently purchaced the Microsoft Office Small Business Suite upgrade version for this computer. Because it is MCE, I cannot access my work domain network (MCE blocks this application). Kind of defeats the purpose of having the suite, I wanted to link my Full Outlook version to my Web Access version. Anyway, my question is, if I purchased a new computer with a Vista operating system, would the office suite I've already purchased work?

A:Solved: Microsoft office suite compatible with vista?

Office 2003 is supposed to work with vista if that is your version.
You would need the original install disk along with the upgrade disk.
The upgrade is not a stand alone product and can't be used for
a cean installation.
Have you checked your firewall to make sure the needed ports aren't blocked
or possibly looked into setting up VPN to login?

Hello,
This forum helped me a lot in the past and i hope someone can help me this time aswell.
I used to have a problem with blue screens on my toshiba laptop running vista. That problem was solved. However, since then microsoft office word 2007 is not working properly anymore. Whenever i try to save, open or close a file the program stops responding and crashes. I tried uninstalling microsoft office, scaning the computer registry with regsupreme pro and cleaning it and then reinstalling microsoft office but the problem persists.
The problem is only with microsoft word, all other office programs work fine.
My best guess is that something went wrong with some system file.
I have absolutely no idea what to do. If anyone can help me somehow i would appreciate it.
My last resort is formatting the computer which i would like to avoid.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Has any other business gotten this? We got a letter from Microsoft corperation that their Office 2003 suite contained 3rd party code and they require for us to stay licensed and compliant that all installs have to be upgraded to SP 2 and then to SP 3 when it gets released...

It does not go into specifics but is on Microsoft company paper and is addressed from them so I am not thinking this to be some kind of HOAX... but I can't find anything mentioned online about it at all on the internet.

Has anyone else seen this does anyone have a link to the story as to who the third party and why they are sending out this letter and what was infringed upon enough to require a mailing to customers? (PS I only spent about 5 mins looking for it under search terms like Office 2003 service pack 3rd party code.)

I am running windows Xp and I have office 2003 installed. I like to make cards and invitations and prepare my photos for printing in office. Because I text wrap them to move them or size them I cannot copy and paste.
What I do not like is that when I save them or e-mail them they stay in the office page with all the tool bars and such. When I go to where they are saved they are in a doc box that has to be opened. It takes away from my creations to have them surrounded by all the toolbars and things.
Lately I have been printing and then scanning and saving, but this seems a round about way of doing things, not to mention the waste of ink. Is there a better way? Does anyone know how I can remove just my creations for E-mailing or to save?

I am have a TON of problems with Microsoft Office 2003 (Mainly Word and Excel). This is a work computer I am on, and I do most of my work in both of those applications (naturally, they are the ones with the problem). My problem comes after I open or try to open any application in word or excel. It will act like it is "thinking" but will then freeze up. I have to "End the process" every time. It also becomes a problem when I need to print a document because it will freeze up in the middle of trying to print.

Does anyone have any idea of what is going on with my computer?? Is there any way to fix this mess?!?! I am VERY much in need of these applications right now!

Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!

A:Microsoft Office 2003

Steve,

I am pretty sure, if there is a way, that you wont find it here as this is not a site that encourages piracy or software activation hacks. Neither will you find password hack advice regardless of genuity of your inquiry.

I think that the only way to get Office on your computer legally is to purchase the key for it. If you know of any friends who have kids in college or school, or indeed if you or anyone in your family is completing education full time, you can get Office at discount for students and teachers which consists of sending to Microsoft an officially stamped and signed verification form (which is in the box you buy). Once MS have verified that the information is genuine, they will send you the prod key/install cd's.

I'm sure this hasn't been much help but its the only way round your budgetary problem and will keep your copy of Office legal.

If you install a pirate version or one without credentials, you may not be able to get any support or download updates or patches if you have problems and such installations could cause problems with other elements of Windows. Its alot of money for the real McCoy but the peace of mind for having genuine software in my opinion is priceless.

If you have an older version of Office try to stick with it for a while if 2003 is too expensive but whatever you do don't cut corners else you'll find yourself posting more advice requests in more technical areas of this forum at a later date and your Offi... Read more

Just installed Office 2003 Professional on my laptop last night. I opened up Outlook and began to set up an email account for my "work" email via Microsoft Exchange Server. Well I suppose I did not input the information correctly, because now I get errors stating that my folders are not available, etc. That's all fine. The problem is that Outlook closes as soon as I "OK" or "cancel" these error messages. I can't even get into the program to delete this account. I have uninstalled Outlook and re-installed with no success. HELP!!!!!

Hello:

I have a new computer.

I have 'Microsoft Office Word 2003' on my old computer and I wanted to place the program on my new computer except that I can't find the cd.

My Question:

Is there a command that I can use, say in the "run" program to transfer all the files of 'Microsoft Office Word 2003' of to a thumb drive and transfer the 'Microsoft Office Word 2003' to my new machine?

Thanks to all.

I accidentally deleted the MSOcache folder. When i try to install Microsoft Office 2003, its says :Microsoft Office Setup did not complete successfully. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Is there anyway to download the MSOcache ?

A:Can't able to install Microsoft Office 2003..

The MSOCache folder is created when you install Office 2003 from the install disk. You are then given the choice to keep it or delete it. It's best to keep it as occasionallyyou are asked if you want to install features and if you do, the program accessesthe Cache folder, otherwise you would need to insert your install disk. So, do you have a Microsoft Office disk. If so and you are having problems setting up,you need to ensure that the program is properly uninstalled first and then try again. If it sets up OK, you will have a new MSOCache folder, if you have chosen to keep the setup files on your computer. If you have no disk, the answer is no, you cannot download an MSOCache folder.Remove the Office program through Add /Remove. If it won't go for some reason, you could use the REVO uninstaller.Freeware version:http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstaller/...4-10687648.htmlThe WinCleanup Utility may also assist:MS Article (kb 290301) :"When you are working on your computer and installing a new program, the installation suddenly fails. Hi riptorn,

Why 2003? 2007 offers A LOT more and also allows people to open the new "x" documents from office which are common these days. He can download the 2007 version from Microsoft Product Information Center - Trial Software. It also allows you to save your files in old office extensions in case he needs to.

P.S. Been to Malaysia a couple of times... LOVE KL (not so much Terenganu or west Malaysia). Petronas Towers ROCK (had meetings in middle floors).

Cheers!

Hey there, I hope someone can shed some light on this. Apologies if this is the wrong forum.

My laptop has stopped opening microsoft office applications completely, yet it still appears on the add/remove programs list. When an attempt is made to open a word file for example, a popup with Windows installer comes up and says it is installing, but nothing ever happens.

The only thing I can think has changed is I've recently been infected with viruses/malware and I also used CCleaner.. would this have wiped it? I really don't want to have to pay for a new pack.

Any help would be great!

Michael

I have a problem because I need to learn to use microsoft access for a test and the thing is I have Microsoft Office 2007 while the school has Offcie 2003. I really need to know if it is possible to switch from Microsoft Office 2007 back to Microsoft Office 2003 and how?

A:Microsoft Office 2007 -> 2003?

I don't know if it is possible to revert, but would the school be willing to allow you to download access 03 for home use as you are a student there? I know that at least some colleges allow this. If you haven't already asked them it won't hurt to do so.

edit: if they did allow this you would probably have to promise to uninstall the program when no longer a student.

In Windows XP Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 I created a document that includes text, clip art and photos. I performed design checker, corrected errors, and got a clean document. I saved it and closed the program. When I reopen Publisher, I cannot open the file that I just created. It gives me an error message that Publisher Cannot Open File! No reason, no nothing. It has happened several times with different documents and the only fix so far is to uninstall Office and reinstall. It only fixes it for a short time, then I'm back to square 1 It is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. I purchased my computer from Dell and have asked for their help; however, they say it is a Microsoft problem. Microsoft says it is the seller's responsibility to take care of factory installed software. What now? Does anyone out there know Publisher and how to fix it? Thanks.

Hi,

I installed a trial for Microsoft office 2010 when I was working on some college work to see if it would be worth upgrading. I have microsoft office 2003 already on my laptop. When the trial finished I unistalled the 2010 version but now when i try to open documents from e-mails it wont open up in the 2003 version. I have to then open up e.g word and find the file from there. Any ideas how i can change the settings to make Microsoft office 2003 the default for my documents.

Thanks

Susan

Hey, all. I'm going off to a four-year college in the fall. I need an office program. I have Office 2000, but it is my mom's, and your technically not supposed to put it on more than one computer.

So...I've been looking at Office 2003 Student/Teacher Edition...You can install that on three computers, and you can keep using it after you leave college. However, I have also been looking into OpenOffice.org. It seems like a good deal. However, I have some questions:

Are the file formats compatible with Office 2003? Can I transfer between one and the other? Are there any gaping security holes I should know about? Is OO.o really better?

Its not urgent (I don't go away until mid-August), but any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

A:Microsoft Office 2003 Vs Openoffice.org

Open Office can save and create in all MS Office foemat from 4.5(1996) to the most current. Is it better. Not really. From what I have used one is a good as the other. The big diffenece is OO is free and MSO starts at $249.
I have been using OO for years and have not come accross a time when I needed MSO. If it were me? My money? OO all the way.

I have office 2003 pro, but only installed, Word 2003, Excel 2003, Outlook 2003 and Publisher 2003 as they are only what i use. My problem is outlook 2003, when i open to do a message i get this message "Microsoft Word is set to be your email editor. However, Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The Outlook email editor will be used instead. An OLE registration error occurred. The program is not correctly installed" i don't know what is wrong but Word is installed and is working fine just that Outlook is having problems with it. Since i had un-installed office and re-installed it didn't resolve this problem how can i set OUtlook's email editor instead of Word to avoid this annoying message?

A:Microsoft Office 2003 Professional

Strange to have problems after installation. In case you haven't done it:
Run Outlook.
Tools > Options > Mail format.
Check the format dropdown for whatever you want, I suspect plain text.
Next two checkboxes which refer to two possible Word2003 formats should be unchecked.

I have a new lap top which is loaded with Windows 8. I was able to load Office 2003 but whenever I use one of the features I have to accept the user agreement. For example when I open outlook the user agreement pops up and I have to click on accept before it open. Any ideas on what I need to do?

A:MicroSoft Office 2003 issues

I've seen that already. It probably happens because your account doesnt have privileges to modify Windows registry. Try to run all Office apps as administrator and see if it solves the problem.

You can also try to add permissions (full control) to this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0

Good luck. Give us feedback.
