Aaarrgghh! DVD drive not working and internet pages opening as blank pages

Q: Aaarrgghh! DVD drive not working and internet pages opening as blank pages

Hi guys ( and girls )

I have an Acer Asspire 5332 running Vista.

A month or so ago the CD/DVD rom stopped working. Device Manager states it is unable to start and updating driver/uninstalling device etc does nothing either, other than recognise the drive as "standard cd rom" whereas it is actually a dvd rewriter. Acer tech support say that windows should pick up the driver automatically and cannot understand what the problem is. They do not provde a driver for the cd/dvd unit.

Then, in the last 2 weeks, certain web pages have failed to open, namely Hotmail and Facebook. All I get is a blank page with no error message Also videos on all sites intermittently work and don't work, saying I need to install Javascript which I already have! I have done all the usual checks and fixes ( internet options / javascript uninstall reinstall etc, as well as un-installing internet explorer itself.

Using another browser ( Safari ) opens up all pages including Hotmail and Facebook fine, but I still get the issue with the videos.

Does this sound like a virus? I have run Avast scan, and Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner. I am posting a "Hijack this log" for any braniancs to look over. Not sure if it is one problem, or several but doing my head in !!!

thanks in advance,
Rob

In an attempt to work this out myself, I updated my java and adobe flash shockwave to it's newest settings. But yeah.... this is where I'm at. Any help would be awesome.
I don't think this is a graphic card issue, as this is actually happening on all my computers.

I'm using the most current up to date firefox.

Hey Guys,

I think I've gotten a bug.  I was doing some speed tests and downloaded something and now my machine is acting up.

Windows 8.1

Adaware scan found a bunch of files that were quarantined.  Yahoo search became my new IE opening page.
When I try to open pages from a google search sometimes the new window shows blank.

I'm not sure what to do or how to dig deeper.

All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bryan

Whe printing multiple copies from Word 2003, (SP-3) Service Pack 3, all pages come out of the printer blank. This happens on my Canon Imageclass MF5550 printer but not on my HP 8100 inkjet. Printing from email, wordpad and notepad work. I reinstalled Word and the Canon printer driver to no avail. I called Canon tech support and they had me print from Wordpad and since it worked they said it's not their problem.

Absolutely frustrated by this new computer.  When looking at web pages they are often blank, partly there, or rearranged in a crazy manner. Then all is OK for a while before it all starts again.I've had it back to Harvey Norman to have Windows10  reinstalled twice. Last time they only "cleaned" it and didn't find any viruses. Told me it was all fixed, but IT ISN'T!!!The blank and crazy web pages are my own website, so I do know what is supposed to be there. Indeed it IS there when I use my old laptop.I installed Google Chrome thinking that might help. It didn't!I am totally disgusted with this computer. I spend endless hours trying find ways to get it to work. It is hardly used and less than 12 months old but as slow as a snail. Of course when it is BEHAVING well it is quite fast.Any suggestions?

A:blank internet pages?

Hi Not really. Since you have changed browser and another device works, then I think your router/firewall etc is all functioning as expected.  Unless a very very basic browser with no filter type plugins could be found to try, and I cannot suggest one. Which goes to content, and maybe you have some interfering Anti-Virus deciding the content is unsuitable, or the page is not signed. But I don't have any better ideas than you, other than dropping your firewall, disabling your A/V when it occurs and reloading the page.  Then imediately reinstate A/V. Actually I also use Linux and dual, boot so perhaps you could try a live distro on DVD or USB. If in doubt please ask.

Most pages load fine but when I click on a link within a web page it opens a new screen, goes through the motions, says DONE in the bottom left corner but the screen is blank

A:Blank internet pages

Hi are you using IE?

IE->Tools->Internet Options->Programs Tab.
Click Reset web settings button.
Temporarily disable anti-virus/firewall/popup blockers and toolbars.
If that solves the problem, isolate which program is causing it and change settings within that program.

One or more of the following DLLs might be improperly registered.

1. Quit all programs that are running.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll and then click OK.
4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

5. Repeat, the above substituting each of these additional DLLs:
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll
Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)

I have been having this problem recently with IE 7.0.5730.13 and also Firefox 2.0.0.14 The problem is i am able to open some pages eg. www.bbc.co.uk however when i try to open others eg. www.derriaghycc.co.uk (the website of my local cricket club) or www.msn.com they do not load and it just says it is loaded up.

The other 2 computers in my house have the same problem also. We have a wireless router and the problem occurs both when recieving it wirelessly and when wired to the router.

There was a thunder storm a few days ago and after it our phone and sky (satalite TV) box which is also connected through the phone line started to play up. They both work now however the internet still has the problem. Could lightening have damaged the router. Any ideas / solutions would be appreciated.

A:Internet Explorer not opening certain pages

Hello ybgurrugby, Welcome to TSF!

If you can connect to some website and not others, proves that the Router is not faulty.
Try going into Internet Options and check that the LAN settings are set to "Automatically detect settings".
You could also add those site to your 'trusted sites' in the Security setting of the Internet Options.

Give these a try and post back

Kind Regards,

Hey, I downloaded DSL Speed v 6.3 to optimize my DSL speed and some features were locked out since it was a free unregistered version. I then googled up a key gen for that version of DLS Speed and found one on cnet.com, downloaded it and opened it. I immediately knew something was wrong when nothing happened and i could not locate the file anywhere on my computer, it was in the download folder. I tried searching for the file and it's like it just disappeared. Here is the link where the key gen orginated from: http://bestmovieworld.com/Crack_dsl.speed.v6.3.45059.exeAfter that happened about 5 minutes later my internet explorer opens by itself with http://www.benaughty.com/ext.php?dynamicpa...;harrenmedia=us on it. I googled that and found its a scam site operated in the UK. I ran a norton scan which found a virus called "InfoStealer" which was removed. Ten minutes later another internet explorer page opens by its own to http://www.gamevance.com/?lp=220&a=226...8-177366-288731I ran a scan with ad aware free version with latest updates which found about 50 cookies which were removed by the scan. I also downloaded, updated and scanned my system with Avira which found no viruses or malware of any kind. I have not closed or interacted with the new explorer windows that were self opened. This morning walked in to home office and there was video playing on an open web page. Multiple pages were open. Last night the only thing open on the computer was Outlook and computer was in sleep mode. I usually use Firefox but IE is also installed and used occasionally. Running on Windows 7

This follows a long list of virus infections I have encountered this summer. After taking computer on a 6 hour drive to have the institution I work for look at the computer I found I had better success following tutorials on this site. I have been infected with Security Shield but after removal still had redirect problems when using google. Then had File Recovery Virus - after removed this things were better until this week computer would suddenly just shut down (no blue screen). In middle of working in various documents (word, excel, outlook) or just searching internet screen went black and it turned off - but upon hitting power button turned back on (not in safe mode).

Now IE has windows popping open randomly and completely by themselves.
These two issues may be completely separate - so sorry if they are.
Malwarebytes found nothing today and I haven't tried anything else. Decided to seek help instead.
All of these problems started after we switched internet services - not sure if that is a coincidence or not. I've never had an issue with viruses on my work laptop (and I have worked from home with a work issued laptop for a long time). Although I used to access th... Read more

I have been asked to look at a problem with the above for a friend of mine. The first pc running Windows Xp pro and IE6 would open the home page but as soon as you went to another page it would open up a blank page and IE would pretty much freeze. I ran AVG. Spybot and Adaware 2007 and deleted anything found, I also tried the fix involving running regsvr32 to fix files.I even tried a repair install of windows.
A couple of weeks later another pc went down with the same problem, this time running IE7, then another couple of weeks later a third machine went down with similar problems.
The pc's are networked through a server running MS server 2003.
Everything I have tried seems unable to resolve the problem, the fact it seems to be speading almost suggests virus activity but virus scans with both AVG and NAV found nothing.
I installed Firefox which seemed to be a workaround but I think that this may now be suffering the same fate, but don't quote me on that.
Has anyone any suggestions as to what may be going on here?

I suppose the title says it all, my computer has some sort of infection where every search in google in both firefox and internet explorer redirect the searches to random pages. Additionally, typing in certain addresses simply won't load where I know the page should work, such as certain links on microsoft.com. Furthermore, I have enabled Automatic Updates and it tells me that it is not enabled even though it clearly is in the settings and going to the update page through internet explorer simply does not work. I have read through various other forums here at bleepingcomputer.com and followed their instructions but nothing has fixed the problem so I figured I'd post as well and start fresh. A huge thanks in advance to whomever is able to help me out. So, where do I begin?

I use IE 7 on my Pc and about the beginning od May IE went crazy for no apparent reason, it starts opening webpages by itself (or refreshing the same webpage), if you close it , after a few seconds the same webpage will open again. They are blank pages at first and then once they have loaded they are just the original page I’ve opened up.

It only happens in IE (Firefox, msn, yahoo and chrome are OK) and also from within AOL, it will open IE and go to the page I was trying to browse in AOL and keep opening up tab after tab and after a few tabs a blank page tab opens then it goes back to opening up the page I was trying to browse. What’s interesting after closing it with Task Manager after a few seconds IE will reopen on its own and continue where it left off. This is maddening.
The only way to stop it is to reboot the PC. I have Trend Micro Internet Security 2010, Spybot Search and Destroy and SuperantiSpyware and I have scanned my entire computer with each and they did not find any troyans or malwares or viruses at all.

This is the first time in ten years that I have been using different versions of IE that I see this strange issue. Many other people are posting the same complain in other forums and to date nobody have found a solution. Some say it could be some virus named “vundu” or the conflickr, other say it could be some bug due to a bad recent microsoft update for IE7 (some people even says that IE8 is having the same problem), others say that they are Chinese hac... You should never turn off your modem I have my DSL Modem connected to my UPS so it is on all the time.

Sounds like your modem lost it's setup. Contact your ISP and check the modem setup. Then check your WinXP LAN connections.

Also, I always suggest checking both boxes in the LAN connection Properties, General tab, so the connection icon is alway visible in the Taskbar Tray.

When my internet pages open, they all shift a few inches to the left, when I go to click on anything, I have to click next to it because it's off center. I can see the page is also open underneath the shifted page, am I being hacked or is it a setting thing? all my settings are set to recommended. All of my internet browsers are updated. I can't directly click on anything about half the time.

I deactivated the checkbox and deleted the link but it keeps appearing.

I tried scanning with:

I just recently removed the Lovsan virus from my computer and ever since, I've been having trouble opening internet secure pages with my web browser. Perhaps these two problems are unrelated, but I'm not sure. Pages such as ebay user login sites begin to open, then stop and display an internet explorer error. I don't believe it is a problem with my security settings, but maybe it is. The settings are currently at default, and after playing around with the levels, I am fairly convinced that that is not the problem, but any help would be great. . .

A:trouble opening internet secure pages

Go to http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/ and download HiJackThis. Use Winzip to unzip it, then install and run it. When it's done the "Scan" button changes to "Save Log". Save the log file it creates (it should open in Notepad at that point). Copy and paste the results in your next post. Most of what it finds is harmless, so do not do anything yet. Someone will be glad to help you sort out any of the baddies that may be in there.

For the past several years, I've been connecting to the internet via DSL, a LinkSys 802.11g wireless router, and my Dell laptop with Win XP Pro, and have had absolutely no problems since I set it up. I just moved however, and it's going to be several months before I have broadband access at my new house. Out of curiosity, I turned on my laptop and the internal wireless card picked up 4 wi-fi networks (neighbors') that were broadcasting their SSIDs, two of which appear to have no encryption whatsoever. (Their SSIDs were both "linksys," the default setting.)

So here's what's puzzling: I can connect to the unencrypted networks fine, or so my laptop tells me. Signal strength is excellent. When I open internet explorer though, I just get the default blank page telling me a connection with the server can't be made. What could be causing this? It's been a while since I've had to configure my wireless settings, so I'm a little rusty. I thought at first it might have to do with the ISP (if my neighbor uses cable, while my settings were previously geared to DSL) but logically it would seem that the ISP specific settings would be configured on the router, not on the wireless settings.

One article I looked up mentioned something about DNS settings. I was a little fuzzy on this, but it said some networks may not automatically convert URLs from text to their numeric values. It suggested changing the DNS server setting from automatic ... Read more

I run XP SP2 originally with IE7 but upgraded to IE8 in an attempt to overcome the problem. Whenever I attempt to print or preview from IE I'm presented with a single page that is blank except for the header and footer information. This phenomenom started immediately after I installed and ran CCleaner. Too much of a coincidence!Printing is fine from Firefox.I've since upgraded to IE8, uninstalled CCleaner and examined and implemented numerous web forum suggestions, eg ensuring that there is a Low folder witind Temp. All with no success. The problem persists even after I uninstalled and reinstalled IE8.Any thoughts welcomedWith thanks

When I log on as a local machine user, my IE prints OK. However when I log on as a domain user the IE prints blank pages with header and URL as footer.

A:Internet Explorer prints blank pages

I know this is an old post....

I helped a coworker solve this exact same issue. Her IE7 browser would show a blank print preview and print blank pages. The footer of the preview showed "file://C:\Windows\Temp\whatever.htm".

A quick check of the C:\Windows\Temp folder showed that the user could not read the folder.

So, I created a new temp folder (%USERPROFILE%\Temp) and set that as the value for the User environment variables TEMP and TMP.

After a restart of IE to pickup the temp folder change, the print preview showed correctly and the user can now print from IE7.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I found that I had Virtumonde and some other infected files recently. I cleaned them out using the Yahoo toolbar antispy, but they came back; I cleaned them out using I think it was Spybot SD, but they came back, I tried deleting the files with Adaware but they came back. I couldn't initially clean the files with Norton antivirus as the infections weren't detected, but I changed some settings, and Norton antivirus found the files. I quarantined the files with Norton antivirus, then tried running another AdAware scan and deleted the files with AdAware. So I thought everything might have been fixed, but now, even though I run Firefox, sometimes odd stuff happens -

1. When I turn on my computer, it takes a while to start up. (Maybe I just didn't think about it before)
2. All my icons on my desktop disappear for a second or two sometimes.
3. A LOT of Internet explorer windows open up on my toolbar. Looks like adtgrt, sagispul.com, but more recently, it's just some internet address like 8x.xx.xxx.xxxx or such. I couldn't get a read on it.

So I followed some of the "Preparation Guide For Use Before . . . " instructions and here I am.

I do have Norton Ghost installed on my computer, I don't mind wiping out all my files. But I have three files, and when I try to restore using Norton Ghost, Norton Ghost only allows me to select one of the three files to "restore". I have just upgraded to Windows XP with SP2 from Windows ME

I have a broadband Internet connection using a Speedtouch modem version 330 the latest version. Since installing Windows XP I have been able to connect to the Internet but after looking at anything from 1 to about 10 web pages I am no longer able to continue surfing . I get error messages saying 'Page cannot be displayed' . The computer remains conected to the Internet.

To find a solution I have disabled XP's Firewall and Pop-up facilities. I have also disabled my own AVG antivirus facility. I have also re-installed the Modem software.

I can however surf normally when I connect the Modem to
my laptop which runs Windows 98 .

It would appear to be a conflict between Wndows XP and Internet Explorer. To be honest I have run out of things to try.

I also find that after logging off the Internet I have to re-start my computer before I can re-connect to the Internet.

My PC details are

256MB PC2100 DDR Ram
40 GB UDMA EIDE HDD

Hope you can help

A:Solved: Internet Explorer not opening web pages after installation of XP

Are there any power settings configured for the network card being used on the XP computer.

When it fails to connect to the Internet, can you:

1. Find out what IP address information you have (start / run / cmd, then IPCONFIG /ALL)
2. Can you ping an external site by IP address (ping 4.2.2.1)
3. Can you ping an external site by Name (ping www.yahoo.com)

This is to help determine if the problem is with the network card, the TCP/IP protocol stack or the browser.

Hello Bleeping Computer,
A few weeks ago I started having problems with ads in my browser. Every link I clicked and every new page I openend also opened a new window with ads.
Pages that normally had regular text also started having random words highlighted and turned into hyperlinks to similar ad pages.
Because my antivirus program (Bitdefender total security 2015) did not pick up this problem, I got the premium edition of MBAM. The only thing that came up was a file (PUP) in my appdata called appdataFR25.bin
I had MBAM removed it and thought that was that. But after restarting my computer the problem returned.
I have tried several programmes and solutions but nothing turned out to be permanent. I can give some more information on the problem though:
Browser: Google Chrome
-- I don't know which version when I got infected, but it has since been "upgraded" to the dev version: 43.0.2357.130 dev-m
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional N, 64 bit
Antivirus: Bitdefender Total Security 2015
-- This includes internet protection and firewall.
Malwarebytes premium is also running with live malware protection, but this was done AFTER I got infected.
After starting the live protection, MBAM has blocked the pages this malware/adware has been trying to send me to.
Blocked websites include:
-- Domain: boxbestwebscan.in (most frequent one)
-- IP: 52.10.219.161
-- Domain: here.sendevent.net

Where should I go from here?

Thanks!

A:Internet Explorer not opening pages, ping works

try resetting ie to defaults. try running without addons. try another browser to see if it is an ie issue or something else.

For about 3 weeks now I'm having trouble opening up web pages on Mozilla, I/E, and AOL. Once I sign in to secure sites and try to post something, the web page freezes. I'm not the only one who uses this computer so I can't offer any idead as to what this might have been caused by. Any help with the HJT scan below is very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Hello,

I have internet explorer 7 and since I installed BitDefender Internet Security 2008, I have had those random surge of internet pages poping up like mad, maybe 40 blank internet pages open in like 5 seconds. Even if I disconnect it from the internet, pages keep popping up non-stop (except in this case, the pages are all dead since the internet is not connected). The only way I can take care of this problem is use the "ctrl+alt+del" and use the "terminate program command".

I do not know if it is due to the BitDefender new anti-virus or if it is due to me having been contamined with this:

Hi all, I am having trouble with my IBM T23 laptop. Its operating XP sp2. When I use IE I get the first page up but when I try to view another I get a blank page which flashes the previous page. After that it is unresponsive and I have to control, alt, delete to come off it. I did have 3 trojans on it after my son and pal had been on games sites! Did AVG and ran Spybot and thought all was better, obviously not! Since then I've deleted excess programs, defraged, disk clean up and when none of that worked I reinstalled windows. Also I can't get updates from windows. At the moment I'm using a really old PC to do this message. I've tried to follow the 5 steps as best as I can and managed to get a log from my sick laptop so will attach it to this thread. Hope someone can put me on the right track. Thanks in advance. Kind regards Nikki.main.txt

Hello,My problem is exactly, word by word, as this person's http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/267742/internet-explorer-opening-wrong-pages/. When I open Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, they open to the correct home pages, which are the yahoo nad google search page respectively. When I search for something, they take me to the list of websites. When I click on one of those links, either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox takes me to a different site. In order to get to the right website, I have to copy and paste the address directly into the address bar. I have run SuperAntiSpyware; it found SystemBrokenFile Association and lots of cookies (about 80, every time I run it). I deleted them, but the problem is the same. When I run AVG 9.0., it is not founding any problems at all, except for cookies. Please, help me. Hope this is the right place for this and thank you, in advance, for your help.

About a month ago I bought a new Brother MFC 9130CW printer.
Nice printer and I like it.
Mostly.

But, it prints blank pages using the "print Friendly" option in Internet Explorer.

By turning off the printer and restarting my computer, I can get it to function properly temporarily but it's aggravating having to restart my computer when I want to print something.

It seems to work fine in Chrome and I can use Chrome for some things.
However, when I work from home my company has a software that is only compatible in IE and will not work in Chrome.

I have Windows 7, Internet Explorer 11 and this printer is USB wired.
It works fine printing from my desk top

I contacted Brother support and, of course, since I can print test pages from my desk top, the printer is functioning properly, they want me to contact Microsoft to figure it out.

I am hoping you can help me, instead.

Thanks, again

Today, while on mapquest the internet explorer started opening internet explorer continously, last count that I could see was up to 93 windows, when it does that, the modem runs constantly, the pages are flashing white and black, and the words change colors. When it does this, you can't do anything at all and you can't close the pages unless you shut the computer completely down. Also, while using hotmail, it also freezes up and you have to open task manager just to exit and when you do that it says that internet explorer isn't responding and prompts me to close and restart.

Upon scan using Macfee, nothing shows on scans or on AVG. Earlier about 2 hours ago, it did show something about a trojan being detected but it was quaratined. I hope that I followed directions as explained if not just let me know and I will try it again. Thanks

Several months ago I had to completely wipe my computer and reinstall everything due to a .dll failing to load after having installed a Windows Update.

About a week ago, I noticed that the graphics on my computer were bad. Two days ago I went to Dell's website and made sure I had the latest updates for my graphics card ( NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 ). That seemed to have corrected my bad graphics issue as my screen looked normal again.

Yesterday I began to notice that web pages would not load properly, that I couldn't have more than one instance of a browser open at one time, and that pages just froze.

Today the computer crashed with a blue screen that said page_fault_in_nonpaged_area. Then I got a message box from Windows Error Reporting saying that a device driver caused Windows to stop unexpectedly...a "stop error". It told me to go use Windows Updates to check for updated drivers. I went there, but could never get to any page where drivers were updated, it just kept trying to check my computer for updates...and then said that I needed to update my Windows Update (KB892130 - Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool). It failed to install this update and would not install it the couple of times I tried.

I have ran Hijack This and the other scans as instructed and are posting them (and/or attaching) them below:

Hi,

Ran into some odd computer problems today, any assistance would be fantastic.

PC / OS / Browser Info:
Dell Optiplex (bought from DiscountPC.com)
P4 1.99GHz, 512mb RAM, 40GB HD
Win XP (OEM) ver 2002, SP2
Firefox v3.0.3
IE v6.0.2900.2180

Overview Problems:
1.) Windows login password shows "IIIII" instead of the encrypted dots to indicate a password
2.) Random Outlook emails appear completely blank
3.) Google homepage on IE is completely blank, other various pages do not fully load, but work in Firefox
4.) Button text on some apps (Auslogics defrag) are completely gone
5.) Various system hangs

The computer worked fine until today. It was original purchased as a frugal replacement for an existing broken office PC.

Methods tried:
1.) Defrag/registry defrag, auslogics apps missing button text
2.) Ran AVG Virus scan (buttons missing text), to no avail, wouldn't run
3.) System restored to yesterday, and then to a week ago, to no avail
4.) Visited various tech support sites that suggested to run various REGSVR32 commands in Start -> run to no affect
5.) Ran IEFix app which was suggested might bring back broken IE components
6.) Explored Device manager, nothing is apparently wrong with any devices

This is about the extent of my IT knowledge. I would much prefer a way to fix other than formatting - I'm not even certain a format would fix the problem.

Any suggestions? Any more information I could provide? Have no idea what it could... Read more

Hi,

I have a question regarding a problem that I've recently started having whilst surfing the internet. Basically, certain pages and actions do not work, whilst others seem fine. For example, I can load Google with no problems, but when I try to do a search on it, there is no movement at all. The bar at the bottom half fills as if it's going to load, but then nothing happens. Sites seem to work fine until you get to a point where you need to enter details - for example Gmail loads, but when you go to enter your username and password, that is when it freezes.

I think I can pinpoint the moment when it happened as well, I use Windows Vista, and was unzipping a torrent that I had downloaded. I remember a Norton popping up telling me that something was trying to access the internet. Stupidly, I hit yes without realising it because I was distracted, and the problem has remained since.

I have gotten a log off HijackThis, if anyone can spot anything that might be causing this very annoying problem, or suggest what to do next I would be very grateful!

Hello! I have some problems with my Windows10 x64 on a high-end laptop.
I don't know if it is post Anniversary Update or after I run CC Cleaner. I had this problem 6 months ago and it resolved after some Windows updates.
The problem is with Windows10 itself, I tried on a Virtual Machine(Ubuntu) and there are no problems.
The problem is: On all 3 browsers I can not acces some fuctions on many websites. EX: Sometimes after I automatically sign in in Gmail, i can not read any emails, I can not delete them, etc.(Oops? the system encountered a problem (#400) - Retrying in 7s - for reading)
EX: I can not sign in in multiple sites, I can not submit this question or reCAPTCHAs(Cannot contact reCAPTCHA. Check your connection and try again.),etc
I have a stable high speed internet .
I tried a to return to a restore point but with no luck...and I can not roll back to a previous verison of Windows:(

Hi guys

I have been searching google to see if more people are having the same problems as me but it seems like I am on my own.

Firstly some info about my computer:

Windows 7 64bit
Chrome is main browser but I have also tried Explorer and Firefox with no success
Using AVG AV and windows FW

1. I am trying to access the CCBill website by typing in www.ccbill.com into the address bar. All I get is a blank page on all three browsers.

I have checked with http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com and the site is working for them. It also works on my iPhone so this leads me to the logical conclusion that something is amiss on my PC.

2. The second issue, which I think must be linked to whatever is going on in issue 1 is that there are some email links that I can't click on.

For example, Tesco (grocery retailer), send me emails every week with regards to my shopping. This week it was:

So I clicked on the "here" hyperlink and again I get a blank page like this:

Hopefully you guys can help me out with this.

Thank you for your time.

A:Blank Pages and Blank Links Issue (Really weird)

Sounds like you are missing some runtimes...

Go to www.ninite.com and put a checkmark next to each box under the "Runtimes" section (should be 5, maybe 6 items to check). Then scroll down a little and click "Get Installer". Download and save the file, and then run it after closing all of your browsers.

It will download the checked items (Silverlight, Java, Air, Shockwave, and .NET) if they are not currently installed, or if the version you have installed is out of date. Once everything is installed (you can ignore anything that says "skipped - up to date"), open your browser and try the website again.

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 computer that is running Windows XP. The computer has 2 GB of Virtual Memory; I have ADSL High Speed through the phone company with a direct connection to the router. I have defragged, cleared out the Internet temporary files, cookies etc and use McAfee each week as well AntiSpyware and Registry Boster weekly. HAve cleaned the disc as well.

I have an intermitment problem the last few months where some days it takes forever to load a web page and often some of it it and then forever for the rest. I usually hear the hard drive spinning loudly like a whirling noise as well. It's virtually impossible to work with when it is this slow. I must add that on some days it works fine so I'm puzzled as to how to fix .....hoping someone can help me here.I have included the HiJack this Notepad file below. Thnaks for your help.

A:Slow Loading Internet Pages - Whirling Hard Drive Noise

You can test the HDD using the drive manufacturers disk tools (available from the drive manufacturers website). Run the short and long test. That will verify the drive is good (or bad). Any errors on either test and the drive is likely faulty.

With that said, drive usage/access in and or itself does not indicate a problem.

Hi Guys,

You've helped me once before with this problem, however, it's starting all over.

Whenever I try to open a page (Ex: Google, MSN or anything), it takes forever for the page to open, if at all. I had this problem once before and one of the techs suggested that I run SUPER AntiSpyware, which I did. Amazingly, this took care of the problem and my pages were loading extremely fast. However, within the last week my computer slowed down to a crawl and it's almost impossible to use. I am very careful what I download to my computer, so as not to get any viruses. The problem is, that I need my computer for my work and right now it's impossible to use, so I need your help.

Thx,
NJRugger

I tried drivers and such, checked the printer settings and the printer says nothing is wrong. I'm trying to print out word documents, but every time I do, the page either comes out completely blank or very, very sketchy (the words on the sides of the page appear, then fades away to nothing in the middle).

The entire document can be printed if the colour ink catridge is removed (which is odd, considering the document contains nothing but black text in the first place), however, the printed page is slightly sketchy (thin horizontal white lines go over the entire page, but it's not as bad as trying to print with the colour ink catridge inside.)

Any thoughts?

I have just upgraded from windows 98 to windows XP. I can load internet explorer and use the internet to an extent but if i click on any links it just opens a blank screen. I had no problems with windows 98 so i'm guessing that it must be some sort of setting that has changed during the installation? Can anyone help?!!

Thank you!

A:opening web pages

You may have picked up the nachi worm as a result of your upgrade. W98 was not susceptible to this but XP is. Try getting the stinger tool
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
then go straight to Microsoft and get the security updates for XP.

After that you may want to post a HJT log for review.
Download Hijackthis. Scan your machine then click on Save Log.

Post a copy back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

Hi
I have a 2 month old Acer Aspire E1 571 with Windows 8. I cannot get most pages to open up. Some do strangely enough. Google opens up instantly, ebay home page will open up but when I try and log in it just hangs. Anything to do with Microsoft wont open up, Autotrader etc. This all happened after I noticed my bank account had been hacked and they had taken a large sum of money from my current account. I am at the paranoid stage as my old laptop (a Dell Vostro 1100 with Windows XP is exactly the same). I have McAfee pre installed and I have also downloaded Malware Bytes. I tried to load Microsoft Security Essentials but it won't let me open. I really am at a loss. Any help is very much appreciated. Meant to say once I noticed the bank account scenario, I ran anti virus and it showed up around 25 various things like Trojan & Backdoor.

My problem started maybe 3 months ago. I could not get on to any web sites. At the bottom of the IE it said res:c//:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocloc.dll/dnserror.htm We talked to HP and my ISP (Mtco). My ISP said it was a hardrive and Hp had no idea. Hp thought it was my modem. It connected to the internet but wouldn't let me open web pages until they made me reset my modem then it wouldn't even connect to the internet. We bought a new modem and then we were back to the same problem. Hp made me do a test but it failed Short Self Test (HD521-2W) They said it was nothing. The made us do a Destructive System recovery it works now on most websites but it still randomly pops up on random sites. But I lost everything. So I went to lots of forums most said it was either a firewall or spyware/adware problem. Another one said to update to IE 7. So I did and now it says res://ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff.htm I also did the Short Self test it still failed with the same error. Idk if that has anything do with IE but yeah. My biggest concern is IE unless the short self test is something serious.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure if others have posted this issue before, and if this has been addressed, but I'm at my wit's end. I'm having a major issue when I log on and open a web browser. I use Firefox and sometimes it opens but most of the time I get the message:

"Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at us.f354.mail.yahoo.com.

* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."Click to expand...

I get the same basic message when I try to use IE. After several tries and/or reloads I can finally get a page to open. Sometimes things are missing from the page or ads can't connect. I've scanned my system with AVG, McAfee, HijackThis, etc. I don't know what to do. I'm not an expert, don't know if there's something foul in my registry, a DNS issue, or what. Please anyone help or let me know if I should post this someplace else. If more info is need let me know.

Thank you in advance

Greetings,
I have recently had viruses on my DellXPS400 Desktop/Windows XP OS. Prior to this I was running a FREE version of AVG and they seemed to have gotten through. It started with AV Malware and I noticed a dramatic decrease in performance,I tried running AVG scans and it managed to catch some Trojans,Rogue, and Malware. I also have a copy of SUPERAntiSpyware and I also did thorough scans with that as well. I decided that I would have to say goodbye to AVG(because of the experience) and baught Bit Defender 2010. I've run about 2 Deep System Scans using this product and it says everything is fine.
Upon rebooting my pc I was hit with a blinking screen with 5 second intervals in between, the icons and toolbar will flash and i'm unable to do anything but open Task Manager. Upon another reboot it was fine and the problem went away but seems to be returning every 3-4 reboots. My main concern is that upon installing Bit Defender 2010 I'm unable to access ANY webpages. It seems like it's working to open up the page and absolutely nothing takes place,no errors,no webpage AT ALL. I use both Mozilla and E-explorer and they will not open, the only way I can access web pages is in Safe Mode.So I'm reaching out for any suggestions or help concerning this matter.

Okay, here's the deal. For a long time now we have been getting blank web pages on IE7. Images show up fine, but text is not there. for example, clicking on a news story on MSNBC will bring up any images/photos associated with the story, but not text. The status bar will say done, but nothing is there. same with amazon.com. Clicking on an item will bring up another page with a picture of the item, but no text. We uninstalled IE7 thorugh add/remove programs, and that left us with IE6. That worked okay...not perfect, but at least we got "most" of our text with the web pages. Thinking maybe the first install of IE7 had gone badly, we went and re-installed IE7 and now we are back to the same thing...lots of blank pages. Should we just uninstall 7 and leave it off? Since it's happening with 7 and not 6 that is making me think it is a problem with 7, but then again if we run 6 we have a lot of problems with it freezing, and error messages about plug-ins. What to do? any suggestions?

Oh yeah, we are running Windows XP sp2 and that is about all I know about computers, so please make it simple. Thanks.

My system is running a little slow, especially Internet Explorer. Sometimes the pages take a long time to finish loading, and sometimes a page will come up blank, and it will say "done." It's getting frustrating!
I'm assuming that there's a lot of junk on my computer, and I'm hoping to clean my computer up, but I don't really know how to do that, or even how to get started. I've done virus scans with McAfee, and my McAfee security things are all up to date. After that, I don't know what to do next.

Also, I've noticed on other people's postings, that they include the processes that their computers are running. I'd like to do that, but I'm not sure how.

I've just discovered it isn't to do with ie7 because I've downloaded firefox and tried it on that and I've still got the same problem. Can anyone please tell me what this could be? It isn't about my connection either because it works on my other computer.

I'm working on a computer that is running XP.

When I would open up Internet Explorer, some web pages would be blank. For example, Windows update was blank, but MSN.com was not. Aol.com appeared normal, but in mail the address book appeared blank, etc.

I ran spybot and adaware and it found a bunch of stuff. Then ran hijack this and it looked clean. Was able to get onto Windows Update. Updated to IE 7. After update, the runonce page came up and it was just plain blue. Now unable to get back on Update.

Went into registry and took out the "runonce" to try and bypass and that did not work. I can go to other websites, ie. I type in msn.com and everything looks normal.

Everytime I reopen IE, the runonce page is there - but it is blank. Any suggestions of how to reset or what to do next?

I just bought a vaio laptop and anytime I try to get try to open a link from somewhere an balnk page opens up, address bar is also blank. for ex the yahoo mail link on yahoo messenger main window. It doesn't lead me to my email, it just opens up a blank page etc. Same for other links, like from the norton security center. I can open links from a webpage just fine, even with open in a new page option. I don't know what to do but it seems like an easy fix, I just need some help. I have tried the shell32.dll from run and those other commands and nothing has happened. Last resort is I'll take the laptop back to best buy and put that warranty to work. Thanks for reading and for any help.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, IE9. When using the computer to try to look at different webpages, I am getting blank pages instead of being able to view the pages I want. Example, on an Ebay page- trying to click on information about an item & a blank page appears. It happens on other pages too.

Any ideas?

Windows XP-SP2 running with IE6.
Working fine untill yesterday (I don't recall installing or unistalling anything).
Suddenly when I visit certain web pages, like hotmail and windows update I get a completely blank page (no words or pictures, just white pages) with the indication "Done"at the status bar. I am also unable to view the "Download" buttons in certain sites like Download.com and some links don't work when clicking on them!
When I use Firefox, everything works perfect!
I tried to repair/reinstall IE but it doesn't let me since "I am using a newer version". I also cannot update through Windows update since the page doesn't work for me. Also: Control Panel > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level and enable ActiveX and Scripting (or set to Prompt) are ENABLED!

Please help!!!!

A:Blank pages in IE6 SP2

Run the System File Checker, you may have some missing/corrupt files

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow ( sfc if not reconized)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd.
